Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 1 Corinthians
Purpose
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning 1 Corinthians chapters 1–16, with the core passage (15:1–11) integrated within its chapter (15) row set. Terms already present in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked Reused and their Romans-established Azerbaijani rendering is carried forward exactly, per the hard rule that established renderings must not be altered. New terms proposed for this curriculum are marked New and are candidates for addition to translation memory (with version increment) before Phase 2 translation begins.
Risk tiers follow the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions: Critical (human theologian review, every occurrence), High (human theologian review), Medium (native speaker review recommended), Low (automated review sufficient).
Glossary Table
| # | English Term | Azerbaijani Rendering | Status | Risk | Chapter(s) | Risk Reason (grounded) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gospel | Müjdə | Reused | High | 1, 9, 15 | Keep distinct from bare İncil (contested-book association); 15:1–11 is the creedal core of the gospel content. |
| 2 | Grace | Lütf | Reused | High | 1, 3, 15, 16 | Must remain the cause, not the reward, of labor/effort (15:10 triple-χάρις verse); guard against mərhəmət/kərəm merit-adjacent framing. |
| 3 | Faith | İman | Reused | High | 2, 12, 13, 15, 16 | Object of faith (Christ, the resurrection fact) must stay explicit; not generic creedal assent. |
| 4 | Righteousness | Salehlik | Reused | Critical | (background to chs. 1, 6) | Never collapse into saleh əməllər; underlies “bought with a price” and sanctification logic in ch. 6. |
| 5 | Justification | Saleh sayılma | Reused | Critical | 6 | Forensic declaration; connects to “you were washed, sanctified, justified” cluster (6:11), not implied elsewhere in this glossary’s chapter list but doctrinally present. |
| 6 | Salvation | Xilas | Reused | Critical | 1, 15 | Present-tense reality (15:2 “being saved”); never a deferred, Imamate-intercession-style hope. |
| 7 | Apostle | Həvari | Reused | Medium | 1, 4, 9, 12, 15 | ”The Twelve” and “all the apostles” (15:5–9) must be taught as a closed eyewitness college, not a Shia Imamate-style ongoing succession — sharpened by the coincidental “Twelve” numerical overlap with the Twelve Imams. |
| 8 | Called / Calling | Çağırılmış / Çağırış | Reused | High | 1, 7 | Extended in ch. 7 to cover calling to remain in one’s present life-state (marriage/singleness), not only calling to salvation. |
| 9 | Holy | Müqəddəs | Reused | High | 1, 3, 6, 7 | Used in at least three distinct senses across the book (corporate calling 1:2, temple-indwelling 3:16/6:19, household set-apartness 7:14) — risk of readers flattening these into one sense. |
| 10 | Saints | Müqəddəslər | Reused | High | 1, 16 | Corporate designation for all believers; not an övliyalar-style venerated elite. |
| 11 | Sanctification | Təqdisetmə | Reused | High | 1, 6, 7 | Distinguish personal sanctification (6:11) from the narrower “household sanctification” sense (7:14) — same Azerbaijani term, different scope, requires teaching-note disambiguation. |
| 12 | Fellowship | Ünsiyyət | Reused | Low/High* | 1, 10 | Low risk as general fellowship (1:9); *risk rises to High in 10:16’s sacramental “participation” sense, which needs supplementary teaching-note vocabulary beyond the general term. |
| 13 | Church | Kilsə | Reused | Medium | 1, 15 (church of God) | Distinct from mosque-modeled or clergy-mediated religious community; Paul persecuted “the church of God” (15:9). |
| 14 | Holy Spirit | Müqəddəs Ruh | Reused | Critical | 2, 3, 6, 12 | Must be taught as the third divine Person, not Cəbrail; dense pneumatology in ch. 2 and the indwelling-temple claims of chs. 3 and 6 heighten the stakes. |
| 15 | Resurrection | Diriliş | Reused | Critical | 15 (whole chapter) | Core doctrine of the book; must presuppose real, prior death (15:3–4) — direct confrontation with Qur’an 4:157’s no-death reading; never göyə qaldırılma. |
| 16 | Lord | Rəbb | Reused | Critical | throughout, esp. 15:11, 16:22 | Exclusive, supreme lordship; e.g. “our Lord Jesus Christ” framing runs throughout the letter’s greetings and closing. |
| 17 | Son of God / Christ | Məsih / Allahın Oğlu | Reused | Critical | throughout | Məsih must always carry full Davidic/atoning content, not a bare honorific; “Christ died… was raised” (15:3–4) is the letter’s doctrinal spine. |
| 18 | Peace | Sülh | Reused | Medium | 1, 7 (implicit peace themes) | Relational peace, not merely absence of conflict. |
| 19 | Spiritual Gifts | Ruhani hədiyyələr | Reused | Medium | 7, 12, 13, 14 | Never kəramət (Shia/Sufi saint-or-Imam miraculous endowment); ch. 12 is this term’s doctrinal home base and requires the strongest reinforcement of the Romans-established rejection. | | 20 | Thanksgiving | Şükran | Reused | Low | 1 (implicit thanksgiving opening, 1:4) | Standard, low-risk term; genuine point of resonance. | | 21 | Gentiles | Millətlər | Reused | Medium | (background; Jew/Greek distinctions in 1:22–24, 10:32) | Ethnically neutral term; avoid kafirlər. | | 22 | Glory | Ehtişam | Reused | High | 1, 2, 6, 10, 11 | Avoid nur (Shia Nur-i Məhəmmədi association); recurs in the “image and glory of God” phrase (11:7) and “glorify God in your body” (6:20). | | 23 | Power of God | Allahın qüdrəti | Reused | High | 1, 2 | Distinct from qəzəb (wrath); central to “the cross… the power of God” (1:18, 24). | | 24 | Messiah / Christ | Məsih | Reused | Critical | throughout, esp. 15:3–4 | Must carry full Davidic-covenant, atoning-savior content every occurrence, not a bare familiar label. | | 25 | Law (Mosaic) | Qanun | Reused | High | 9 (implicit), 15:56 | Never şəriət; 15:56’s “power of sin is the law” must retain Qanun. | | 26 | Sin | Günah | Reused | High | 15 (vv. 3, 17, 56) | “Christ died for our sins” (15:3) is the atonement-anchoring occurrence; universal accountability background applies. | | 27 | Covenant | Əhd | Reused | Medium | 11 | “New covenant” (11:25) in Christ’s blood; müqavilə rejected as too commercial/bare. | | 28 | Election | Seçilmə | Reused | High | 1 (God’s choosing of the foolish/weak, 1:27–28) | Qismət/yazı-style fatalism rejected; God’s purposive, personal choosing. | | 29 | Intercession | Vasitəçilik | Reused | Critical | (background; relevant to Christ’s unique mediatorial role assumed throughout) | Never şəfaət/təvəssül; though 1 Corinthians does not use this term directly as often as Romans, its underlying Christ-alone-mediator logic (8:6, “one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things”) requires the same discipline. | | 30 | David | Davud | Reused | Medium | (background to Messianic fulfillment claims) | Established proper name form. | | 31 | Israel | İsrail | Reused | Medium | 10 (Israel’s wilderness history, 10:1–13) | Established proper name; contemporary diplomatic-political association noted per Romans baseline. | | 32 | Jesus | İsa | Reused | Critical | throughout | Always paired with Məsih; never bare İsa in doctrinally significant contexts (e.g., 15:1–11’s İsa Məsih references). | | 33 | God | Allah | Reused | Critical | throughout | Consistent IBT usage; not Tanrı. | | 34 | Father | Ata | Reused | Critical | 1 (8:6 parallel logic; implicit throughout) | Relational Father language retained per Romans convention. | | 35 | Exhort | Nəsihət vermək | Reused | Low | 1, 4, 16 | Context-sensitive per Romans convention (entreaty vs. encouragement). | | 36 | Divisions / Factions | Bölünmələr / Parçalanmalar | New | Medium-High | 1 | Avoid firqələr (Islamic sectarian-splinter-group connotation); Paul addresses relational factionalism within one body, not formation of rival sects. | | 37 | Wisdom | Hikmət | New | High | 1, 2, 3 | Heavily loaded with Qur’anic/Sufi mystical-wisdom-tradition associations; must be paired with the cross’s paradoxical “foolishness” to preserve Paul’s argument. | | 38 | Foolishness | Səfehlik | New | High | 1, 3 | Must retain tight rhetorical pairing with hikmət to preserve the deliberate paradox of 1:18–25. | | 39 | Cross | Çarmıx | New | High | 1 | Distinguish from xaç, which carries Armenian/Georgian ethnic-Christian and geopolitically sensitive associations in the Azerbaijan–Armenia context; çarmıx is the doctrinally clean crucifixion-instrument term. | | 40 | Boasting | Öyünmək / Fəxr etmək | New | Low-Medium | 1 | Distinguish forbidden self-boasting from commanded “boasting in the Lord” (1:29–31). | | 41 | Mystery | Sirr | New | High | 2, 4, 15 | Strong esoteric-elite (bātinī/Sufi/Shia “hidden knowledge”) associations; Paul’s mystery is now openly revealed to all believers, the opposite trajectory. | | 42 | Natural Person / Spiritual Person | Cismani insan / Ruhani insan | New | Medium-High | 2 | Risk of misreading through Islamic rūh/nafs/jism tripartite anthropology rather than Paul’s Spirit-enabled vs. Spirit-absent discernment contrast. | | 43 | Temple | Məbəd | New | Medium-High | 3, 6 | Distinct from məscid (mosque); the claim that God’s Spirit indwells a group (ch. 3) and an individual body (ch. 6) has no clean tanzih-compatible Islamic parallel and needs direct teaching. | | 44 | Reward | Mükafat | New | Medium | 3 | Must be kept distinct from merit-earns-salvation framework; a post-salvation ministry commendation only. | | 45 | Stewards of the Mysteries | Allahın sirlərinin idarəçiləri | New | Medium | 4 | Reuses sirr risk; “steward” must stay administrative/accountable, not elevate toward clerical-mediator gatekeeping models. | | 46 | Sexual Immorality | Əxlaqsızlıq (cinsi əxlaqsızlıq) | New | High | 5 | Zina rejected as primary rendering — it imports an Islamic ḥadd-legal-punishment framework rather than Paul’s church-discipline/holiness framework. | | 47 | Hand Over to Satan (Church Discipline) | Şeytana təslim etmək | New | High | 5 | Must be framed as restorative discipline aimed at repentance, not a curse or damnation-pronouncement; sensitive given honor-shame social dynamics around communal exclusion. | | 48 | Leaven | Maya | New | Medium | 5 | Requires brief Passover-background teaching note; low collision risk, moderate unfamiliarity risk. | | 49 | Members / Joined | Üzvlər / Birləşmək | New | Medium | 6, 12 | Establishes the body-metaphor vocabulary at the individual level (6:15–17) before its full corporate development in ch. 12; keep terminology consistent across both chapters. | | 50 | Bought with a Price | Bir qiymətlə satın alındınız | New | High | 6 | Redemption-purchase motif; flag for future “redemption” glossary entry; reinforces Salehlik/Xilas rather than competing with them. | | 51 | Marriage | Nikah | New | Medium | 7 | Standard, unavoidable term, but also names the specific Islamic legal marriage contract with associated categories (mahr, etc.); teaching notes should distinguish Paul’s marriage theology from that legal-contractual framework at relevant points. | | 52 | Virgin | Bakirə | New | Low | 7 | Standard term; note Paul’s broader “unmarried person” usage in 7:25–38. | | 53 | Idol | Büt | New | Low-Medium | 8, 10 | Genuine point of resonance (shared condemnation of idolatry); care needed that “idols are nothing” (8:4) is read as a statement of the idol’s powerlessness, not license regarding food. | | 54 | Food Offered to Idols | Bütlərə qurban kəsilmiş ət/yemək | New | High | 8, 10 | Strong risk of being read through halal/haram Islamic dietary-legal categories rather than Paul’s conscience-and-love argument; teaching notes must redirect explicitly. | | 55 | Knowledge | Bilik | New | Medium | 8 | Keep distinct from hikmət (a different Greek word and a different argument: correct doctrine without love, 8:1). | | 56 | Conscience | Vicdan | New | Low | 8 | Standard, resonant term; “weak conscience” as a protected pastoral category is a distinctly Pauline move worth explaining. | | 57 | Stumbling Block | Büdrəmə səbəbi / Maneə | New | Medium | 8, 9 (implicit) | Consistent rendering needed across ch. 8’s idol-meat discussion and related liberty passages. | | 58 | Rights / Authority (apostolic) | Haqq / İxtiyar | New | Low-Medium | 9 | Distinct Greek word/concept from “power of God” (dynamis); do not conflate with Allahın qüdrəti. | | 59 | Idolatry | Bütpərəstlik | New | Medium | 10 | Legitimate here (about idol-worship itself), distinct from the Romans baseline’s rejection of “bütpərəstlər” as an ethnic-category substitute for “gentiles” — do not confuse the two contexts. | | 60 | Table of the Lord / Table of Demons | Rəbbin süfrəsi / Cinlərin süfrəsi | New | High | 10 | Anticipates and must stay consistent with ch. 11’s Lord’s Supper terminology. | | 61 | Cup of Blessing / Sacramental Participation | Xeyir-dua kasası / iştirak (Ünsiyyət-adjacent) | New | High | 10 | Richer sacramental sense of κοινωνία beyond the general Ünsiyyət entry; needs supplementary teaching-note vocabulary. | | 62 | Head (Headship) | Baş | New | Medium | 11 | Resonates with existing patriarchal family-headship norms; must be taught alongside Paul’s mutuality statements (11:11–12), not in isolation. | | 63 | Head Covering | Baş örtüyü (ilə örtünmə) | New | Critical (cultural sensitivity) | 11 | Directly intersects the live, politically contested contemporary Azerbaijani hijab debate; requires explicit human-theologian-reviewed framing distinguishing Paul’s first-century argument from the modern controversy. | | 64 | Lord’s Supper | Rəbbin Süfrəsi | New | Critical | 11 | Risk of assimilation into Shia nəzir-style commemorative food-offering practice (Ashura/Karbala-linked); must be explicitly distinguished as a Christ-instituted, unrepeatable-atonement-commemorating ordinance. | | 65 | Body and Blood (of the Lord) | Bədən və qan | New | Critical | 11 | Render literally per Christ’s words of institution; teaching notes must clarify symbolic-memorial meaning and distinguish from Karbala-associated blood-ritual/mourning cultural associations. | | 66 | Remembrance | Xatirə / Xatirələmə | New | Medium | 11 | Straightforward but doctrinally weighted by its Lord’s Supper context. | | 67 | Discern the Body | Bədəni düzgün ayırd etmək | New | High | 11 | Recognizing the Supper’s significance and the unity of the body of believers, not literal physical examination; connects to ch. 12. | | 68 | Unworthy Manner / Judgment | Layiqsiz şəkildə / Hökm | New | Medium | 11 | Corrective discipline consequence, not damnation-level condemnation. | | 69 | Image (and Glory) of God | Surət (və Ehtişam) | New | Medium-High | 11 | May raise tanzih/anti-anthropomorphism concerns when applied to a human being; clarify derivative honor, not physical resemblance to God’s essence. | | 70 | Manifestation of the Spirit | Ruhun aşkar olması | New | Critical | 12 | Zühur explicitly rejected — that term names the Shia eschatological “manifestation” of the Twelfth Imam (Mahdi’s zühur) and must never be used for the Spirit’s ordinary gift-manifestation. | | 71 | Body of Christ | Məsihin bədəni | New | High | 6, 12 | Organic, differentiated-member interdependence must be distinguished from the Islamic ummah model of community bound by shared law/creed. | | 72 | Baptized (into one body) | Vəftiz olduq | New | Medium | 12 | Settled Christian term for baptism (not in Romans baseline but consistent with established Azerbaijani Bible usage); distinguish from Islamic ritual ablution (dəstəmaz/ğüsl), a preparatory purity rite rather than a one-time incorporation into Christ. | | 73 | Tongues | Dillər (ruhani dillər) | New | Medium | 12, 13, 14 | No direct Islamic doctrinal parallel (novelty, not collision, risk); distinguish from ordinary multilingual ability and from ecstatic/trance folk-religious or Sufi zikr phenomena. | | 74 | Interpretation (of tongues) | Tərcümə / Şərh | New | Low-Medium | 12, 14 | Standard vocabulary; keep consistent across chs. 12 and 14. | | 75 | Healing / Miracles | Şəfa (bəxş etmə) / Möcüzələr | New | Medium | 12 | Şəfa carries shrine-based folk-healing associations (ziyarat/pir practices); clarify as a Spirit-given church gift, not a saint-mediated practice. | | 76 | Discerning of Spirits | Ruhları ayırd etmə | New | Medium | 12 | Standard descriptive rendering; moderate risk from general spiritual-discernment ambiguity. | | 77 | Love (agapē) | Məhəbbət | New | High | 13, 16 | Must be explicitly distinguished from the Sufi eşq/məhəbbət mystical-devotional literary tradition (Nizami, Füzuli); Paul’s agapē is behaviorally defined and unsentimental, not ecstatic-mystical union language. | | 78 | Hope | Ümid | New | Low-Medium | 13 | Islamic framing generally treats ultimate hope as contingent pending divine mercy at Judgment; Paul’s ümid carries more settled, resurrection-grounded confidence — brief teaching note recommended. | | 79 | Edification / Build Up | İnkişaf etdirmək / Bina etmək | New | Low | 13, 14 | Consistent with Romans baseline’s “Mutual Edification” doctrine vocabulary (Qarşılıqlı inkişaf). | | 80 | Order | Nizam | New | Low | 14 | Deliberately distinct from Qanun (Mosaic Law) to avoid confusion between worship-order guidance and the Law doctrine. | | 81 | Women Keeping Silent (in the assembly) | Qadınlar sussun (kontekstual) | New | High (pastoral framing) | 14 | Textually and interpretively complex; risk of confirming pre-existing patriarchal cultural assumptions or being read in tension with 11:5’s positive mention of women praying/prophesying; requires explicit human theologian review. | | 82 | Resurrection of the Dead (general) | Diriliş (ölülərin dirilməsi) | Reused (extended) | Critical | 15 | Extends Christ’s individual resurrection (15:1–11) to the future general resurrection of believers; same Critical-risk discipline applies. | | 83 | Firstfruits | İlk bar / Nübar | New | Medium | 15 | Requires OT agricultural-offering background; Christ’s resurrection guarantees/previews the believers’ future resurrection. | | 84 | Last Adam / In Adam | Axırıncı Adəm / Adəmdə | New | High | 15 | Shared name (Adəm peyğəmbər) but no shared federal-headship typology in Islamic theology; do not assume shared doctrine from the shared name. | | 85 | Spiritual Body / Natural Body | Ruhani bədən / Cismani (təbii) bədən | New | High | 15 | Must be taught as a transformed, still-bodily existence, not disembodied spirit; complicated by Islamic eschatology’s own (different) bodily-resurrection framework. | | 86 | Perishable / Imperishable | Puç olan / Puç olmayan (ölməz) | New | Medium | 15 | Standard descriptive pairing; moderate risk mainly from clarity, not collision. | | 87 | Mortal / Immortality | Ölümlü / Ölməzlik | New | Medium | 15 | Standard descriptive pairing. | | 88 | Sting of Death / Victory | Ölümün iynəsi (acısı) / Qələbə | New | Low-Medium | 15 | Rhetorical climax; low doctrinal collision. | | 89 | Collection for the Saints | Müqəddəslər üçün yığım | Reused (Müqəddəslər) + New (yığım) | High | 16 | Müqəddəslər risk per Romans baseline; “collection” itself low risk, a practical-administrative term. | | 90 | Accursed / Anathema | Lənətlənmiş olsun | New | Medium-High | 16 | Recognizable curse-formula vocabulary (cognate with Islamic la’nat) is a point of resonance, but must stay tied specifically to failure to love Christ, not dissolve into a generic curse. | | 91 | Maranatha | Marana ta | New | Low | 16 | Retain untranslated/transliterated, per the same principle applied to Abba in the Romans baseline; gloss meaning in teaching notes only. | | 92 | Ministry / Service | Xidmət | Reused | Low | 16 | Consistent with Romans baseline’s “mission” and “Christ-Centered Ministry” vocabulary. |
Notes on Glossary Maintenance
- Version control: All “New” terms above are candidates for insertion into
translation_memory.json(version increment required) before any Phase 2 segment translation of 1 Corinthians begins, per the Language Package’s translation memory load-and-enforcement instructions. - Reused terms: All terms marked “Reused” must be entered into 1 Corinthians-specific translation memory with the Romans-established Azerbaijani rendering unchanged; no alternative renderings are permitted regardless of context within 1 Corinthians.
- Escalation: All Critical-risk new terms (rows 46 [as High, see note], 63, 64, 65, 70, 82, plus all Critical-risk Reused terms) require human theologian review at every occurrence, consistent with the baseline
doctrine_risk_registry.jsonrisk-tier conventions. Row 63 (Head Covering) and row 64 (Lord’s Supper) are flagged Critical for cultural sensitivity even though the underlying doctrine is not itself a Critical-tier Christological or salvific claim — this reflects the same PRD principle the baseline applies to politically/culturally live terms (cf. Romans’ treatment of “Israel”). - Full-book coverage confirmation: Every chapter of 1 Corinthians (1–16) is represented in this glossary by at least one term, consistent with the PRD’s full-book coverage mandate.
Critical Risk Terms

Transliteration: sah-lehk-LEEK
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: saleh əməllər (righteous deeds, as the ground itself)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Background to the ‘washed, sanctified, justified’ cluster in 1 Corinthians 6:11 and the sanctified-bodily-living argument of ch. 6; never collapse into saleh əməllər.
Justification
Approved rendering: Saleh sayılma
Transliteration: sah-LEHKH sah-yuhl-MAH
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: günahların bağışlanması (forgiveness of sins, alone)
Original: δικαίωσις / ἐδικαιώθητε
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Appears in the 6:11 cluster (‘you were justified’); full phrase required, never abbreviated to forgiveness alone.
Salvation
Approved rendering: Xilas
Transliteration: khee-LAHS
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: nicat (Persian-influenced, Imamate-intercession framing), cənnətə girmək (entering paradise)
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζεσθε
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 15:2’s present-passive ‘you are being saved’ must be preserved as an ongoing present reality, never flattened toward nicat-style deferred, Imamate-intercession-tied hope.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Müqəddəs Ruh
Transliteration: myoo-kad-DASS ROOKH
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Cəbrail (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / τὸ Πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Dense pneumatology in 1 Corinthians 2:10-14 (‘the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God’) and indwelling-temple claims in chs. 3 and 6 heighten the need for explicit first-use Trinity-Person teaching; never Cəbrail.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Diriliş
Transliteration: dee-ree-LEESH
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: göyə qaldırılma (being raised to heaven, without dying)
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγήγερται
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. The core doctrine of 1 Corinthians 15 (Christ’s individual resurrection, 15:1-11, extended to the general resurrection of believers, 15:12-58); must always presuppose the real, prior death and burial of 15:3-4 — direct confrontation with Qur’an 4:157.
Lord
Approved rendering: Rəbb
Transliteration: RAHBB
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ağa (master, non-divine)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN oh-loo
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Allahın sevimli qulu (God’s beloved servant)

Rejected alternatives: sadəcə bir peyğəmbər (merely a prophet)
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. The subject of the letter’s creedal core (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, ‘Christ died… was raised’); must always carry full Davidic-covenant, atoning-savior content.
Intercession
Approved rendering: Vasitəçilik
Transliteration: vah-see-tah-chee-LEEK
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Rejected alternatives: şəfaət (Shia Imam intercession), təvəssül (mediated access through a saint or Imam)
Original: (implicit: εἷς κύριος … διʼ οὗ τὰ πάντα)
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Though 1 Corinthians does not use this term as densely as Romans, the underlying Christ-alone-mediator logic of 8:6 (‘one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things’) requires the same discipline against şəfaət/təvəssül.
Jesus
Approved rendering: İsa
Transliteration: ee-SAH
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘İsa Peyğəmbər’ (Prophet Jesus, without Məsih)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Always paired with Məsih throughout 1 Corinthians, including the creedal core of 15:1-11.
God
Approved rendering: Allah
Transliteration: ahl-LAHKH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ

Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Consistent IBT usage throughout 1 Corinthians.
Father
Approved rendering: Ata
Transliteration: ah-TAH
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Yaradan (Creator, avoiding relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Background to the ‘one God, the Father’ formula of 1 Corinthians 8:6.
Head Covering
Approved rendering: Baş örtüyü (ilə örtünmə)
Transliteration: BASH ur-tu-YEW (ee-LAH ur-tun-MAH)
Doctrine: Head Covering and Gender Order in Worship
Original: κατακαλύπτω / ἀκατακάλυπτος
Category: Worship
New term. 1 Corinthians 11:4-13. CRITICAL for cultural sensitivity: intersects the live, politically contested contemporary Azerbaijani hijab debate. Requires explicit human-theologian-reviewed teaching notes distinguishing Paul’s first-century argument from the modern controversy at every occurrence.
Lords Supper
Approved rendering: Rəbbin Süfrəsi
Transliteration: rab-BEEN sewf-ra-SEE
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: κυριακὸν δεῖπνον
Category: Sacraments
New term. 1 Corinthians 11:20. CRITICAL: risk of assimilation into Shia nəzir-style commemorative food-offering practice (Ashura/Karbala-linked, believed to transfer blessing through distribution); must be taught as a Christ-instituted, once-for-all-atonement-commemorating ordinance.
Body And Blood
Approved rendering: Bədən və qan
Transliteration: ba-DAN vah GAHN
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: σῶμα καὶ αἷμα
Category: Sacraments
New term. 1 Corinthians 11:24-27. Render literally per Christ’s words of institution, without paraphrase; teaching notes must distinguish the symbolic-memorial meaning from Karbala-associated blood-ritual/mourning practices (matam).
Manifestation Of The Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruhun aşkar olması
Transliteration: roo-HOON ash-KAHR ohl-mah-SUH
Doctrine: Manifestation of the Spirit
Rejected alternatives: zühur (the specific Shia eschatological term for the Twelfth Imam’s awaited reappearance/Mahdi’s zühur)
Original: φανέρωσις τοῦ Πνεύματος
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 12:7. CRITICAL: zühur must never be used — it would import Mahdist eschatological associations entirely foreign to Paul’s meaning (the Spirit’s ordinary, ongoing gift-manifestation for the common good).
Died Buried
Approved rendering: Öldü / Dəfn olundu
Transliteration: ul-DEW / DAFN oh-loon-DOO
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: ἀπέθανεν / ἐτάφη
Category: Eschatology
New term. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. Render with unqualified plainness; burial functions as doctrinal reinforcement of the real-death requirement and must not be omitted as a minor narrative detail — direct confrontation with Qur’an 4:157.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: Müjdə
Transliteration: myuzh-DAH
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: İncil (bare, unqualified), yaxşı xəbər (generic good news)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 (the core passage) Müjdə names the fixed, transmitted apostolic creed (‘Christ died, was buried, was raised, appeared’) — keep as defined content ‘received’ and ‘delivered,’ not a devotional feeling.
Grace
Approved rendering: Lütf
Transliteration: LYUTF
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: mərhəmət (mercy), kərəm (Persian-influenced ‘divine generosity’, often devotional/mystical)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 15:10’s triple-χάρις verse is a prime ‘grace vs. merit’ escalation point; Lütf must remain the cause, never the reward, of Paul’s labor.
Faith
Approved rendering: İman
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: etiqad (doctrinal conviction/creed)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. In 1 Corinthians 15:2, 11 the object of İman is explicitly the historical resurrection facts of 15:3-5, not generic creedal assent.
Called
Approved rendering: Çağırılmış
Transliteration: chah-guh-ruhl-MUSH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: dəvət olunmuş (invited)
Inherited from Romans package. In 1 Corinthians 7:15-24 extended to cover remaining in one’s present marital/social state as itself a sphere of God’s calling, not only a call to salvation in the abstract.
Calling
Approved rendering: Çağırış
Transliteration: chah-guh-RUHSH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: dəvət
Inherited from Romans package. Noun form; retains the sovereign-summons sense throughout 1 Corinthians 1:1-2, 1:9, 7:17-24.
Holy
Approved rendering: Müqəddəs
Transliteration: myoo-kad-DASS
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: təmiz (ritually clean)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Used in at least three distinct senses across 1 Corinthians (corporate calling 1:2, temple-indwelling 3:16/6:19, household set-apartness 7:14); teaching notes must disambiguate per occurrence.
Saints
Approved rendering: Müqəddəslər
Transliteration: myoo-kad-dass-LAIR
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: övliyalar (venerated holy figures, shrine/ziyarat association)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Corporate designation for all believers (1 Corinthians 1:2, 16:1’s ‘collection for the saints’); not an övliyalar-style venerated elite.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: Təqdisetmə
Transliteration: tag-dees-et-MAY
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: paklanma (ritual purification)
Original: ἁγιασμός / ἡγιάσθητε
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. The 6:11 personal-transformation sense must be kept distinct from 7:14’s narrower household set-apartness sense; the same Azerbaijani word covers both, creating a real disambiguation risk.
Glory
Approved rendering: Ehtişam
Transliteration: eh-htee-SHAHM
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nur (divine light, Shia Nur-i Məhəmmədi association)
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Recurs in ‘image and glory of God’ (11:7) and ‘glorify God in your body’ (6:20); never nur.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın qüdrəti
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN kewd-rah-TEE
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: Allahın qəzəbi (God’s wrath)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Central to 1 Corinthians 1:18, 24’s paradox — God’s power revealed in the crucified Christ.
Law
Approved rendering: Qanun
Transliteration: kah-NOON
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: şəriət (Islamic religious law)
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Referenced at 1 Corinthians 15:56 (‘the power of sin is the law’) and background to 9:9, 9:20; never şəriət, and kept distinct from Nizam (worship order, ch. 14).
Sin
Approved rendering: Günah
Transliteration: goo-NAHKH
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: xəta (mistake/error)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. ‘Christ died for our sins’ (1 Corinthians 15:3) is the atonement-anchoring occurrence in this book; also 15:56, ‘the sting of death is sin.‘
Election
Approved rendering: Seçilmə
Transliteration: say-cheel-MAY
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: qismət (fate/fortune), yazı (fatalistic decree)
Original: ἐξελέξατο
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. God’s deliberate, status-reversing choosing of ‘the foolish,’ ‘the weak,’ ‘the low and despised’ (1 Corinthians 1:26-29); never qismət/yazı-style fatalism.
Divisions Factions
Approved rendering: Bölünmələr / Parçalanmalar
Transliteration: bœ-lun-mə-LAHR / par-cha-lan-ma-LAHR
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Rejected alternatives: firqələr (Islamic pejorative term for splinter sects with a distinct creed/law)
Original: σχίσματα / ἔριδες
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 3:3, 11:18. Paul addresses relational strife within one body, not the formation of rival religious sects; firqə would misrepresent this as sect-formation.
Wisdom
Approved rendering: Hikmət
Transliteration: heek-MAT
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: σοφία
Category: Christology
New term. 1 Corinthians 1:17-30, 2:6-7. Heavily loaded with Qur’anic/prophetic and Sufi mystical-wisdom-tradition associations; must be explained on first use and paired tightly with Səfehlik to preserve Paul’s deliberate paradox.
Foolishness
Approved rendering: Səfehlik
Transliteration: sah-fah-LEEK
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: μωρία
Category: Christology
New term. 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, 27. Must stay tightly paired with Hikmət so the rhetorical paradox (‘God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom’) survives translation.
Cross
Approved rendering: Çarmıx
Transliteration: char-MUHKH
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: xaç (carries Armenian/Georgian ethnic-Christian and Armenia-Azerbaijan geopolitical association)
Original: σταυρός
Category: Christology
New term. 1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 23. Çarmıx is the established, doctrinally clean crucifixion-instrument term; never soften into a generic ‘suffering’ euphemism.
Mystery
Approved rendering: Sirr
Transliteration: SEER
Doctrine: Mystery of Revealed Wisdom
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Faith
New term. 1 Corinthians 2:1, 2:7, 4:1, 13:2, 15:51. Sirr carries strong bātinī/Sufi/Shia hidden-knowledge connotations restricted to Imams, saints, or initiates; Paul’s mystery moves the opposite direction — from hidden to openly proclaimed to all believers.
Natural Spiritual Person
Approved rendering: Cismani insan / Ruhani insan
Transliteration: jees-mah-NEE een-SAHN / roo-hah-NEE een-SAHN
Doctrine: Mystery of Revealed Wisdom
Original: ψυχικὸς ἄνθρωπος / πνευματικός
Category: Sanctification
New term. 1 Corinthians 2:14-15. Risk of being misread through the Islamic rūh/nafs/jism tripartite anthropology rather than Paul’s actual point: Spirit-enabled versus Spirit-absent discernment.
Temple
Approved rendering: Məbəd
Transliteration: mah-BAHD
Doctrine: The Church and Body as Temple of the Holy Spirit
Rejected alternatives: məscid (mosque)
Original: ναός
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, 6:19-20. God’s Spirit literally indwelling a corporate group and an individual physical body has no clean tanzih-compatible parallel and must be taught directly.
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: Əxlaqsızlıq (cinsi əxlaqsızlıq)
Transliteration: akh-lahk-suhz-LUHK (jeen-SEE akh-lahk-suhz-LUHK)
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: zina (Islamic ḥadd criminal-legal category with prescribed state punishment)
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sin
New term. 1 Corinthians 5:1. Zina imports a criminal-legal framework foreign to Paul’s restorative church-discipline argument.
Hand Over To Satan
Approved rendering: Şeytana təslim etmək
Transliteration: shay-tah-NAH tas-LEEM et-MAKH
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: παραδοῦναι τῷ Σατανᾷ
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 5:5. Must be framed as restorative discipline aimed at repentance (‘so that his spirit may be saved’), not a curse-pronouncement; especially sensitive given Azerbaijani honor-shame social dynamics around communal exclusion.
Bought With A Price
Approved rendering: Bir qiymətlə satın alındınız
Transliteration: beer kee-mat-LAH sah-TUHN ah-luhn-duh-NUHZ
Doctrine: Sexual Purity and the Body United to Christ
Original: ἠγοράσθητε τιμῆς
Category: Salvation

Food Offered To Idols
Approved rendering: Bütlərə qurban kəsilmiş ət/yemək
Transliteration: boot-lah-RAH koor-BAHN ka-seel-MEESH at / yeh-MAKH
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἰδωλόθυτον
Category: Ethics
New term. 1 Corinthians 8:1-13, 10:19-28. Strong risk of being read through halal/haram Islamic dietary-legal categories rather than Paul’s conscience-and-love argument; teaching notes must explicitly redirect.
Table Of The Lord
Approved rendering: Rəbbin süfrəsi / Cinlərin süfrəsi
Transliteration: rab-BEEN sewf-ra-SEE / jeen-lah-REEN sewf-ra-SEE
Doctrine: Idolatry and the Table of the Lord
Original: τράπεζα κυρίου / τράπεζα δαιμονίων
Category: Sacraments
New term. 1 Corinthians 10:21. Anticipates and must remain terminologically consistent with ch. 11’s Lord’s Supper terminology.
Cup Of Blessing
Approved rendering: Xeyir-dua kasası
Transliteration: khay-EER-doo-ah kah-sah-SUH
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship and Sacramental Communion
Original: ποτήριον τῆς εὐλογίας
Category: Sacraments
New term. 1 Corinthians 10:16. A richer sacramental sense of κοινωνία than the general Ünsiyyət entry; needs supplementary teaching-note vocabulary distinguishing ordinary fellowship from this participatory act.
Discern The Body
Approved rendering: Bədəni düzgün ayırd etmək
Transliteration: ba-da-NEE dewz-GEWN ah-YUHRD et-MAKH
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: διακρίνων τὸ σῶμα
Category: Sacraments
New term. 1 Corinthians 11:29. Must be taught as spiritual/relational discernment of the Supper’s significance and the church’s unity, not literal physical examination; connects forward to ch. 12.
Image And Glory Of God
Approved rendering: Surət (və Ehtişam)
Transliteration: soo-RAT (vah eh-htee-SHAHM)
Doctrine: Head Covering and Gender Order in Worship
Original: εἰκὼν καὶ δόξα θεοῦ
Category: Worship
New term. 1 Corinthians 11:7. May raise tanzih (anti-anthropomorphism) concerns when applied to a human being; clarify derivative honor/representation, not physical resemblance to God’s essence.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: Məsihin bədəni
Transliteration: mah-see-HEEN ba-da-NEE
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and Body of Christ
Original: σῶμα Χριστοῦ
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 6:15, 12:12-27. Organic, differentiated-member interdependence must be distinguished from the Islamic ummah model of community bound by shared law/creed.
Love
Approved rendering: Məhəbbət
Transliteration: ma-hab-BAT
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Ethics
New term. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, 16:14. Məhəbbət (and its poetic register eşq) is the central term of the Sufi/Persianate literary-mystical tradition (Nizami, Füzuli), typically ecstatic and longing/suffering-mediated. Paul’s agapē is behaviorally defined and unsentimental; must be explicitly distinguished on every use.
Women Keeping Silent
Approved rendering: Qadınlar sussun (kontekstual)
Transliteration: kah-duhn-LAHR soos-SOON (kohn-teks-tooahl)
Doctrine: Women in the Assembly
Original: γυναῖκες … σιγάτωσαν
Category: Worship
New term. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35. Textually and interpretively complex; risk of confirming pre-existing patriarchal cultural assumptions or being read in unresolved tension with 11:5’s positive mention of women praying/prophesying; requires explicit human theologian review.
Last Adam
Approved rendering: Axırıncı Adəm / Adəmdə
Transliteration: ah-khuh-ruhn-JUH ah-DAM / ah-dam-DAH
Doctrine: Federal Headship of Adam and Christ
Original: ἔσχατος Ἀδάμ / ἐν τῷ Ἀδάμ
Category: Christology
New term. 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45. Adəm is shared with Islamic tradition (Adəm peyğəmbər, a prophet), but the Pauline federal-headship typology has no Islamic theological parallel; do not assume shared doctrine from the shared name.
Spiritual Body Natural Body
Approved rendering: Ruhani bədən / Cismani (təbii) bədən
Transliteration: roo-hah-NEE ba-DAN / jees-mah-NEE (ta-bee-EE) ba-DAN
Doctrine: Eschatological Bodily Transformation
Original: σῶμα πνευματικόν / σῶμα ψυχικόν
Category: Eschatology
New term. 1 Corinthians 15:44. Must be taught as a real, transformed, still-bodily existence, not a disembodied spirit; Islamic eschatology also affirms bodily resurrection at Qiyamah under a different framework.
Collection For The Saints
Approved rendering: Müqəddəslər üçün yığım
Transliteration: myoo-kad-dass-LAIR ew-CHEWN yuh-GHUHM
Doctrine: Sainthood
Original: λογεία εἰς τοὺς ἁγίους
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 16:1. Reuses Müqəddəslər’s inherited High risk; ‘collection’ itself is a low-risk, practical-administrative term.
Tradition Received Delivered
Approved rendering: Ötürdüm … qəbul etdim
Transliteration: ur-tewr-DEWM … ka-BOOL et-DEEM
Doctrine: Gospel (Creedal Core)
Original: παρέδωκα / παρέλαβον
Category: Covenant
New term. 1 Corinthians 15:1, 3. Must be rendered so readers grasp a verifiable eyewitness-transmission chain, not devotional legend, given that many Azerbaijani readers encounter Scripture as clergy-mediated.
Appeared
Approved rendering: Göründü
Transliteration: gur-ewn-DEW
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: ruhani görüntü (spiritual vision, concedes ground to a non-bodily reading)
Original: ὤφθη

Transliteration: heh-vah-REE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: peyğəmbər (prophet-messenger), imam (Shia infallible spiritual-political successor)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 15:5-9’s ‘all the apostles’ is a wider circle than the Twelve, defined by eyewitness resurrection testimony and closing with this generation — not an ongoing Imamate-style succession.
Church
Approved rendering: Kilsə
Transliteration: keel-SAY
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: məscid-vari icma (mosque-like religious community)
Original: ἐκκλησία

Peace
Approved rendering: Sülh
Transliteration: SYULKH
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: rahatlıq (inner calm/comfort)
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Transliteration: roo-hah-NEE hah-dee-YAY-lair
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: kəramət (saint-or-Imam miraculous endowment, Shia/Sufi)
Original: χάρισμα / πνευματικά
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 12 is this term’s doctrinal home base; also used of marital state as a gift in 7:7. Never kəramət — enforce with maximum force since ch. 12 is precisely the passage most at risk of that misreading.
Gentiles
Approved rendering: Millətlər
Transliteration: mil-lat-LAIR
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: kafirlər (unbelievers/infidels), bütpərəstlər (idolaters, archaic)

Rejected alternatives: müqavilə (bare commercial contract)

Transliteration: œ-yun-MAKH / fakhr et-MAKH
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: καυχάομαι

Approved rendering: Mükafat
Transliteration: mew-kah-FAHT
Doctrine: Apostolic Stewardship and Accountability
Original: μισθός

Leaven
Approved rendering: Maya
Transliteration: mah-YAH
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: ζύμη
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 5:6-8. Requires a brief Passover-background teaching note, unfamiliar to most Azerbaijani readers.

Transliteration: nee-KAHKH
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: γάμος
Category: Relationships
New term. 1 Corinthians 7:1-40. Also names the specific Islamic legal marriage contract (mahr, dissolution procedures); teaching notes must clarify Paul’s mutual self-giving theology (7:4) diverges from that legal-contractual framework.
Idol
Approved rendering: Büt
Transliteration: BOOT
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἴδωλον
Category: Sin
New term. 1 Corinthians 8:4. Genuine point of resonance (shared condemnation of idolatry); ‘idols are nothing’ (8:4) must be read as the idol’s powerlessness, not license regarding food.

Transliteration: boot-pah-rast-LEEK
Doctrine: Idolatry and the Table of the Lord
Original: εἰδωλολατρία
Category: Sin
New term. 1 Corinthians 10:14. Legitimate here since the passage is genuinely about idol-worship itself; do not confuse with the Romans baseline’s rejection of ‘bütpərəstlər’ as a substitute for ‘gentiles’ — a different context.
Head Headship
Approved rendering: Baş
Transliteration: BASH
Doctrine: Head Covering and Gender Order in Worship
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Relationships
New term. 1 Corinthians 11:3. Resonates with existing patriarchal family-headship norms; must be taught alongside Paul’s mutuality statements (11:11-12), never in isolation.

Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: ἀναξίως / κρίμα
Category: Sacraments

Transliteration: vaf-TEEZ ohl-DOOK
Doctrine: Baptism into One Body
Original: ἐβαπτίσθημεν
Category: Sacraments
New term. 1 Corinthians 12:13. Settled, distinctively Christian Azerbaijani term for baptism; must not be confused with Islamic ritual ablution (dəstəmaz, ğüsl), a repeatable preparatory purity rite, versus a one-time incorporation into Christ’s body.

Approved rendering: Dillər (ruhani dillər)
Transliteration: deel-LAIR (roo-hah-NEE deel-LAIR)
Doctrine: Tongues and Prophecy in Corporate Worship
Original: γλῶσσαι
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 12:10, 28, 30; chs. 13-14. No direct Islamic doctrinal parallel (a novelty risk); distinguish from ordinary multilingual ability and from ecstatic/trance folk-religious or Sufi zikr phenomena.
Interpretation Of Tongues
Approved rendering: Tərcümə / Şərh
Transliteration: tar-jew-MAH / SHARKH
Doctrine: Tongues and Prophecy in Corporate Worship

Hope
Approved rendering: Ümid
Transliteration: ew-MEED
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Original: ἐλπίς

Anathema
Approved rendering: Lənətlənmiş olsun
Transliteration: la-nat-lan-MEESH ohl-SOON
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Rejected alternatives: anafema (unnecessary transliteration when a native curse-formula register already exists)
Original: ἀνάθεμα
Category: Ethics
New term. 1 Corinthians 16:22. Recognizable curse-formula vocabulary (cognate with Islamic la’nat) is a point of resonance, but must stay tied specifically to failure to love Christ, not dissolve into a generic curse.
Preach Proclaim
Approved rendering: Müjdələmək / elan etmək
Transliteration: myuzh-da-la-MAKH / eh-LAHN et-MAKH

Category: Salvation
New term. 1 Corinthians 1:23, 9:16-18, 15:1, 15:11. Verb form must stay cognate with Müjdə so readers see the noun-verb link.

Doctrine: Apostleship and the Twelve
Original: οἱ δώδεκα
Category: Church

Original: ἐκοιμήθησαν / κεκοιμημένων
Category: Eschatology
New term. 1 Corinthians 15:6, 18, 20. Must be taught explicitly as a resurrection-hope euphemism, not soul-sleep-as-final-state or a reincarnation-adjacent category.
Untimely Born
Approved rendering: Vaxtsız doğulmuş biri kimi
Transliteration: vakht-SUHZ doh-ghool-MOOSH bee-REE kee-MEE
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: τῷ ἐκτρώματι
Category: Christology
New term. 1 Corinthians 15:8. No single-word Azerbaijani equivalent exists; teaching notes must explain the graphic, humbling force rather than letting it read as bland ‘unexpectedly.‘
Low Risk Terms
Fellowship
Approved rendering: Ünsiyyət
Transliteration: ewn-see-YAHT
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: qardaşlıq (brotherhood, generic/civic)
Inherited from Romans package. General sense in 1 Corinthians 1:9; risk rises to High only in 10:16’s richer sacramental participation sense — see cup_of_blessing entry below for that distinct nuance.
Thanksgiving
Approved rendering: Şükran
Transliteration: shook-RAHN
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία / εὐχαριστῶ
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 1:4’s opening thanksgiving; standard, low-risk term.
Exhort
Approved rendering: Nəsihət vermək
Transliteration: nah-see-HAHT ver-MAKH
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: παρακαλῶ
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Context-sensitive across 1 Corinthians 1:10, 4:16, 16:15-16.
Virgin
Approved rendering: Bakirə
Transliteration: bah-kee-RAH
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: παρθένος
Category: Relationships
New term. 1 Corinthians 7:25-38. Standard term; teaching notes should clarify Paul’s broader ‘unmarried person’ application beyond strict virginity.
Conscience
Approved rendering: Vicdan
Transliteration: veej-DAHN
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: συνείδησις
Category: Ethics
New term. 1 Corinthians 8:7, 10, 12. Standard, resonant term; the ‘weak conscience’ as a protected pastoral category is a distinctly Pauline pastoral move worth explaining.
Rights Authority
Approved rendering: Haqq / İxtiyar
Transliteration: HAHK / eekh-tee-YAHR
Doctrine: Apostleship and the Twelve
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: Ministry
New term. 1 Corinthians 9:4-18. Distinguish from Allahın qüdrəti (dynamis/power of God); a different Greek word denoting a right to act, not divine power.
Edification
Approved rendering: İnkişaf etdirmək / Bina etmək
Transliteration: een-kee-SHAHF et-deer-MAKH / bee-NAH et-MAKH
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: οἰκοδομή / οἰκοδομεῖ
Category: Church
New term. 1 Corinthians 14:3-26. Consistent with the Romans baseline’s ‘Mutual Edification’ doctrine vocabulary (Qarşılıqlı inkişaf).
Order
Approved rendering: Nizam
Transliteration: nee-ZAHM
Doctrine: Order in Worship
Original: τάξις / εὐσχημόνως
Category: Worship
New term. 1 Corinthians 14:40 (‘let all things be done decently and in order’). Deliberately distinct from Qanun (Mosaic Law) to avoid confusing worship-order guidance with the Law doctrine.
Maranatha
Approved rendering: Marana ta
Transliteration: mah-rah-nah-TAH
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: Μαρανα θα
Category: Eschatology
New term. 1 Corinthians 16:22. Aramaic phrase retained untranslated/transliterated, per the same principle applied to Abba in the Romans baseline; gloss meaning (‘Rəbbimiz, gəl!’) in teaching notes only.
Ministry Service
Approved rendering: Xidmət
Transliteration: kheed-MAT
Doctrine: Christ-Centered Ministry
Original: διακονία
Category: Ministry
New term (consistent with Romans baseline mission vocabulary). 1 Corinthians 16:15. Consistent with Müjdə yayma xidməti / Məsih-mərkəzli xidmət.
