Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Ephesians (English/Greek → Azerbaijani)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, covering Ephesians 1–6 in full. Terms marked [Reused] are fixed exactly per the baseline Romans translation_memory.json and must not be altered. Terms marked [New] are proposed additions for Phase 1 Step 2 integration into the translation memory and bible term registry, carrying forward into Phase 2 enforcement.
Risk tiers follow the baseline’s four-tier scale: Critical (essential doctrine at stake; mandatory human theologian review of every occurrence), High (significant confusion/syncretism risk; human theologian review), Medium (clarity risk with meaning preserved; native speaker review), Low (minor imprecision; automated review sufficient).

Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: Salehlik
Transliteration: sah-lehk-LEEK
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: saleh əməllər (righteous deeds, as the ground itself)
CRITICAL: Never present as equivalent to saleh əməllər, the works-ledger category central to Islamic judgment theology. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, notably 6:14 ‘breastplate of righteousness’ (Salehlik zirehi).
Justification
Approved rendering: Saleh sayılma
Transliteration: sah-LEHKH sah-yuhl-MAH
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: günahların bağışlanması (forgiveness of sins, alone)
A forensic declaration (‘being counted/reckoned righteous’), not merely forgiveness. Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 2:8-9 assumes this same forensic logic even though the specific compound phrase does not recur verbatim; teaching notes for Eph 2 should draw the connection explicitly.
Salvation
Approved rendering: Xilas
Transliteration: khee-LAHS
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: nicat (Persian-influenced, Imamate-intercession-adjacent), cənnətə girmək (entering paradise)
Original: σῴζω / σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Xilas is the settled IBT term for deliverance through Christ’s death and resurrection, received now. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage. Ephesians 2:5, 8’s perfect-tense ‘you have been saved’ (xilas olmusunuz) intensifies the baseline’s present-reality caution against nicat-style deferred hope; also used compounded as Xilaskar (Savior) in the new term savior_of_the_body (Eph 5:23) and Xilas dəbilqəsi (helmet of salvation, Eph 6:17).
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Diriliş
Transliteration: dee-ree-LEESH
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: göyə qaldırılma (being raised to heaven, without dying)
CRITICAL: Must affirm real bodily death followed by bodily resurrection; direct collision with Qur’an 4:157. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:20, root of ‘raised’ language reused at 2:6).
Lord
Approved rendering: Rəbb
Transliteration: RAHBB
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ağa (master, non-divine)
Established Azerbaijani Bible term for exclusive divine Lordship. Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL CONTEXT RULE for Ephesians: κύριος also refers to a human household master in Eph 6:5-9, where Rəbb must NEVER be used — see bondservants_and_masters (new term) for the mandatory referent-check rule.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın Oğlu
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN oh-loo
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Allahın sevimli qulu (God’s beloved servant)
CRITICAL: Full phrase required, never softened. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 4:13 ‘knowledge of the Son of God’).
Incarnation
Approved rendering: Bədən alma
Transliteration: bah-DAN ahl-MAH
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: Allahın insan qiyafəsinə girməsi (God disguising himself in human form)
CRITICAL: The eternal Son permanently, not temporarily, taking on true human nature. Inherited from Romans package. In Ephesians this root must be kept visually and doctrinally distinct from the figurative ecclesial term Bədən (body of Christ, the church) — see body_of_christ (new term); also underlies descended_and_ascended (new term, Eph 4:9-10).
Messiah
Approved rendering: Məsih
Transliteration: mah-SEEKH
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: sadəcə bir peyğəmbər (merely a prophet)
CRITICAL: Shared with the Qur’anic al-Masih title but must always carry full Davidic-covenant, atoning-savior content. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, always paired with İsa per the baseline’s İsa Məsih rule.
Intercession
Approved rendering: Vasitəçilik
Transliteration: vah-see-tah-chee-LEEK
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Rejected alternatives: şəfaət (Shia doctrine of Imam intercession), təvəssül (seeking mediated access to God through a saint or Imam)
CRITICAL: Christ’s unique, sufficient intercession must never be presented as filling the same devotional role as Imamate intercession. Inherited from Romans package; directly relevant background for the new Ephesians term access_to_the_father (Eph 2:18; 3:12), which sharpens this same caution into a Critical-tier Ephesians-specific doctrine.
Jesus
Approved rendering: İsa
Transliteration: ee-SAH
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘İsa Peyğəmbər’ (Prophet Jesus, without Məsih)
CRITICAL: Always paired with Məsih (İsa Məsih), never bare İsa in doctrinally significant contexts. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage throughout.
God
Approved rendering: Allah
Transliteration: ahl-LAHKH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Tanrı (Turkish convention, not settled Azerbaijani IBT usage)
The ordinary, settled Azerbaijani Bible word for God. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage throughout.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Müqəddəs Ruh
Transliteration: myoo-kad-DASS ROOKH
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Cəbrail (the archangel Gabriel)
CRITICAL: Must be taught as God himself, the third divine Person, never the archangel Cəbrail. Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 4:30 (‘grieve the Holy Spirit’) is especially strong positive personhood evidence and should be highlighted directly against this substitution risk — see grieving_the_holy_spirit (new term).
Father
Approved rendering: Ata
Transliteration: ah-TAH
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Yaradan (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
CRITICAL: Calling God ‘Father’ risks implying literal offspring, forbidden under tawhid; must be taught relationally, not retreated into flatter Creator-language. Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 3:14-15 (‘every family is named’ from the one Fatherhood of God) intensifies this caution — see fatherhood_of_god (new term).
Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: Hesaba alınan salehlik
Transliteration: heh-sah-BAH ah-luh-NAHN sah-lehk-LEEK
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: qazanılmış salehlik (earned righteousness)
Righteousness credited to a believer’s account by faith, not achieved through works. Inherited from Romans package; the same logic underlies Ephesians 2:8-9’s grace-gift-works argument even though the compound phrase itself does not recur verbatim in Ephesians.
Gift
Approved rendering: Hədiyyə
Transliteration: hah-dee-YAH
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: sədəqə-adjacent charitable-giving vocabulary implying merit accrued by the giver, borc (a favor incurring future obligation)
Original: δῶρον
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: The linchpin term of Ephesians 2:8’s argument — something given freely without payment or obligation. Azerbaijani gift-exchange social custom assumes reciprocity; must be paired with mandatory teaching-note fencing (‘geri qaytarılması gözlənilməyən hədiyyə’) and contrasted explicitly with əməllər (works) at every occurrence.
Works
Approved rendering: Əməllər
Transliteration: am-ahl-LAIR
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔργον
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Human deeds explicitly excluded as any ground or contribution toward salvation (Eph 2:9) — direct doctrinal antithesis of the Islamic mizan (scales) framework. Must never be rendered or explained as though salvation is mostly grace-based but partly works-supplemented. Always triggers human theologian review.
Good Works
Approved rendering: Yaxşı əməllər
Transliteration: yakh-SHUH am-ahl-LAIR
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Morally good conduct, the divinely-prepared result and purpose of salvation, not its means (Eph 2:10). Same root (əməllər) firmly rejected as a ground of salvation in v.9 is reintroduced here as fruit — the sequencing (grace/gift first, then good works) is the theological center of gravity of the entire core passage and must never be reversed or blurred.
Blood Of Christ
Approved rendering: Qan
Transliteration: GAHN
Doctrine: The Atoning Blood and Death of Christ
Original: αἷμα
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Christ’s shed blood, the ground of redemption, forgiveness, and reconciliation (Eph 1:7; 2:13). Presupposes Christ’s actual physical death — direct collision with Qur’an 4:157’s denial that Jesus was actually killed. Same Critical routing as resurrection_of_christ.
Mystery
Approved rendering: Sirr
Transliteration: SEER
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: elm-i batin-adjacent esoteric-knowledge vocabulary (never used)
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery
CRITICAL: God’s redemptive plan, once hidden but now openly disclosed to all — Jew and Gentile alike (Eph 1:9; 3:3-9; 5:32; 6:19). Azerbaijani Shia/Sufi elm-i batin vocabulary treats sirr as elite-restricted esoteric knowledge; Paul’s usage is the theological inverse. Every occurrence MUST be paired with explicit ‘now revealed/made known’ language — this is an enforced pattern, not a one-time footnote.
Resurrection Of Christ
Approved rendering: Diriliş
Transliteration: dee-ree-LEESH
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: göyə qaldırılma (no-death ascension)
Original: ἀνάστασις (implied by ἐγείρας)
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Christ’s bodily resurrection and exaltation, the same power now at work in believers (Eph 1:20; 2:6). Presupposes real death; direct collision with Qur’an 4:157.
Cross
Approved rendering: Xaç / Çarmıx
Transliteration: KHAHCH / char-MUHKH
Doctrine: The Atoning Blood and Death of Christ
Original: σταυρός
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: The cross of Christ, the historical instrument through which reconciliation was accomplished (Eph 2:16). Presupposes the historical reality of the crucifixion, directly contradicted by mainstream Sunni and Shia readings of Qur’an 4:157. Same Critical routing as resurrection_of_christ.
Access To The Father
Approved rendering: Yaxınlaşma haqqı
Transliteration: yah-khuhn-lash-MAH hah-KHUH
Doctrine: Direct Access to God through Christ
Rejected alternatives: şəfaət (Shia Imam intercession), təvəssül (mediated saintly access)
Original: προσαγωγή
Category: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
CRITICAL: Direct, Spirit-enabled access to God the Father granted to all believers, Jew and Gentile alike (Eph 2:18; 3:12). Must be clearly and repeatedly distinguished from şəfaət/təvəssül mediated-access framework, not presented as a parallel devotional path to the same goal.
Savior Of The Body
Approved rendering: Bədənin Xilaskarı
Transliteration: bah-dah-NEEN khee-lahs-kah-RUH
Doctrine: The Headship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: köməkçi (helper), aparıcı şəxs (leading figure)
Original: σωτήρ τοῦ σώματος
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Christ as the church’s exclusive Savior, the ground of the husband-wife headship analogy (Eph 5:23). Xilaskar carries the same Critical weight as Xilas and Rəbb — must never be softened.
Great Mystery Marriage
Approved rendering: Böyük sirr
Transliteration: bu-YOOK SEER
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: μυστήριον μέγα
Category: Mystery
CRITICAL: Marriage as a picture of the profound union between Christ and the church (Eph 5:32). Extends the mystery caution; requires the same ‘now revealed’ framing even applied to the marriage analogy.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: Müjdə
Transliteration: myuzh-DAH
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: İncil (bare, unqualified), yaxşı xəbər (generic good news)
Müjdə (‘glad tidings’) is the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT) Azerbaijani term for the living proclamation. Bare İncil primarily names the book, which Islamic doctrine treats as an originally-revealed-but-now-corrupted text; keep the proclaimed message distinct from that contested-book association. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:13; 3:6; 6:15, 19), including as the root of the new term Müjdəçi (evangelist, Eph 4:11).
Grace
Approved rendering: Lütf
Transliteration: LYUTF
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: mərhəmət (mercy), kərəm (Persian-influenced ‘divine generosity’, often devotional/mystical)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Lütf conveys unearned favor apart from merit. Mərhəmət (mercy) and kərəm (generosity) both operate within a framework where deeds still matter for final judgment. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage. Ephesians 2:4-8 deliberately uses both Lütf and Mərhəmət (Eph 2:4) with distinct theological weight — see mercy (new term) below; the two must never be treated as interchangeable synonyms.
Faith
Approved rendering: İman
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: etiqad (doctrinal conviction/creed)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
İman is shared with Islamic vocabulary, where in Shia usage it includes assent to the Imamate. Romans’ iman is personal trust in İsa Məsih specifically. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 2:8; 3:12; 4:5, 13; 6:16 ‘shield of faith’).
Called
Approved rendering: Çağırılmış
Transliteration: chah-guh-ruhl-MUSH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: dəvət olunmuş (invited)
Context-sensitive sovereign summons, not an optional invitation. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 4:1, 4 ‘the calling to which you were called’).
Calling
Approved rendering: Çağırış
Transliteration: chah-guh-RUHSH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: dəvət
Noun form for the act/state of being called by God. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:18; 4:1, 4).
Holy
Approved rendering: Müqəddəs
Transliteration: myoo-kad-DASS
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: təmiz (ritually clean)
Set apart for God, morally pure, not ritual cleanliness. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:4 ‘holy and without blame’; 5:27).
Saints
Approved rendering: Müqəddəslər
Transliteration: myoo-kad-dass-LAIR
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: övliyalar (venerated holy figures, shrine/ziyarat-linked)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
All believers corporately, not an elite venerated class. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:1, 15, 18; 3:8, 18; 5:3; 6:18).
Sanctification
Approved rendering: Təqdisetmə
Transliteration: tag-dees-et-MAY
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: paklanma (ritual purification)
The Spirit’s ongoing work of making believers holy. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, notably 5:26 ‘that he might sanctify her, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word’ — see sanctification_and_washing (new term) for the compound baptismal-imagery caution.
Adoption
Approved rendering: Övladlığa götürülmə
Transliteration: ohv-lahd-luh-AH gur-tuh-ryool-MAY
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: övladlıq (bare, without doctrinal qualifier)
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Election
Full legal-standing sonship with inheritance rights, not a claim of literal divine offspring. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:5), now embedded in the curriculum doctrine ‘Election and Predestination in Christ’.
Law
Approved rendering: Qanun
Transliteration: kah-NOON
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: şəriət (Islamic religious law)
Refers to the Mosaic law. NEVER use şəriət. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, now specifically in the compound law_of_commandments (new term, Eph 2:15).
Sin
Approved rendering: Günah
Transliteration: goo-NAHKH
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: xəta (mistake/error)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Standard shared term; Islamic anthropology (fitrə) resists inherited universal sinfulness. Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 2:1’s pairing of Günah with the new term dead_in_sin (Ölü) sharpens this collision to its sharpest point in the curriculum.
Glory
Approved rendering: Ehtişam
Transliteration: eh-htee-SHAHM
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nur (divine light, Nur-i Məhəmmədi association)
God’s radiant honor and majesty. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:6, 12, 14, 17-18; 3:16, 21). The baseline’s nur exclusion also underlies the new term children_of_light’s işıq-not-nur rule (Eph 5:8).
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: İmanın gətirdiyi itaət
Transliteration: ee-mah-NUHN gah-teer-dee-YEE ee-tah-AHT
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: dini vəzifələrə əməl etmə (performing religious duties)
Obedience as fruit of a faith relationship already secured by grace, not duty-performance earning standing. Inherited from Romans package; the underlying logic governs the new term walk_conduct_of_life (Eph 2:2, 10; 4:1, 17; 5:2, 8, 15), Ephesians’ dominant ethical metaphor.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın qüdrəti
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN kewd-rah-TEE
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: Allahın qəzəbi (God’s wrath, a different concept sometimes conflated in folk usage)
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians extends this into a fourfold near-synonym cluster — see power_of_god_fourfold (new term, Eph 1:19; 3:20; 6:10).
Prophet
Approved rendering: Peyğəmbər
Transliteration: pay-gam-BAIR
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: falçı (fortune-teller)
Standard shared Islamic-Azerbaijani term for God’s spokesperson. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage as a fivefold-office term (Eph 2:20; 3:5; 4:11).
Election
Approved rendering: Seçilmə
Transliteration: say-cheel-MAY
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: qismət (fate/fortune), yazı (what is ‘written’, fatalistic decree)
Original: ἐκλέγομαι
Category: Election
God’s sovereign, personal choosing for salvation, never impersonal fate. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:4). Ephesians concentrates this with the new term predestination (Qabaqcadan təyin etmə) more densely than Romans — the same forbidden-substitution rule against qismət/yazı applies to both terms together.
Providence
Approved rendering: Allahın tədbiri
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN tad-bee-REE
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: qismət, alın yazısı (fate written on the forehead)
God’s personal, purposive governance, not impersonal fate. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, now the conceptual anchor for the new term divine_purpose and dispensation (Eph 1:9-11; 3:9-11).
Dead In Sin
Approved rendering: Ölü
Transliteration: oo-LOO
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Sin and Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: mənəvi cəhətdən zəif (spiritually weak/deficient), unudulmuş (forgetful, softened)
Original: νεκρός
Category: Sin
Spiritual deadness before God — total unresponsiveness and separation from divine life prior to regeneration (Eph 2:1). Must be taught as a theological status, not a moral deficiency; Azerbaijani fitrə anthropology (humans born spiritually sound) actively resists this claim and it must not be softened.
Flesh
Approved rendering: Bəşər təbiəti
Transliteration: bah-SHAIR tab-ee-AH-tee
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Sin and Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: cismani bədən (mere physical body, wrongly implying the body itself is sinful)
Original: σάρξ
Category: Sin
The corrupted, self-oriented human disposition in rebellion against God, distinct from the physical body itself (Eph 2:3). Must not be rendered as mere physicality; the point of maximum friction with fitrə theology since Ephesians claims humans are corrupted ‘by nature.‘
Nature By Nature
Approved rendering: Təbiət
Transliteration: tab-ee-AHT
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Sin and Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: adətən (usually/typically, softening the universal claim)
Original: φύσις
Category: Sin
Ephesians 2:3 states believers were ‘by nature’ (təbiətcə) children of wrath — the single sharpest phrase in the curriculum for the universal-sinfulness collision, direct antithesis of fitrə doctrine. Must never be softened toward ‘often’ or ‘sometimes.‘
Prince Of The Power Of The Air
Approved rendering: Havanın hakimiyyətinin hökmdarı
Transliteration: hah-vah-NUHN hah-kee-mee-yeh-tee-NEEN hukm-dah-RUH
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: cin padşahı (jinn-king, folk-supernatural framing)
Original: ἄρχων τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
A title for Satan as a cosmic ruler exercising delegated but real dominion within a bounded sphere (Eph 2:2). Must present Satan as a specific, defeated personal enemy under Christ’s authority (Eph 1:21-22), not blended into generic folk cin/nəzər categories nor flattened into a bare metaphor.
Wrath
Approved rendering: Qəzəb
Transliteration: gah-ZAB
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: lənət (curse, superstitious causation)
Original: ὀργή
Category: Salvation
God’s settled, righteous judicial response to sin, from which grace rescues (Eph 2:3; 5:6). Must be taught as God’s moral judgment against sin, satisfied through Christ — not a capricious curse or nəzər (evil-eye) causation, extending the baseline’s qüdrət/qəzəb distinction.
Made Alive Together
Approved rendering: Məsihlə birlikdə diriltdi
Transliteration: mah-seeh-LAH beer-leek-DAH dee-reelt-DEE
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: kömək etdi/sağaltdı (helped/healed, flattened)
Original: συζωοποιέω
Category: Salvation
God’s act of giving believers new life in union with Christ’s own resurrection life (Eph 2:5). Must retain both the ‘with Christ’ union sense and the ‘made alive from death’ sense; a flattened rendering loses the death-to-life reversal that is the passage’s entire argument.
Raised And Seated With Christ
Approved rendering: Birlikdə diriltdi, birlikdə oturtdu
Transliteration: beer-leek-DAH dee-reelt-DEE, beer-leek-DAH oh-toort-DOO
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Original: συνεγείρω / συγκαθίζω
Category: Salvation
Believers’ present union with Christ’s resurrection and heavenly enthronement, an already-secured status (Eph 2:6). Must not be confused with a future-only resurrection hope; ‘seated together’ conveys installed honored status, not literal physical relocation.
Predestination
Approved rendering: Qabaqcadan təyin etmə
Transliteration: gah-bahg-jah-DAHN tah-YEEN et-MAY
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: qismət (fate/fortune), alın yazısı (fate written on the forehead)
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election
God’s decision, made before time, to adopt believers as sons according to the purpose of his will (Eph 1:5, 11). Closely related to but formally distinct from Seçilmə (election); Ephesians uses both together, an unusually concentrated predestination emphasis at high risk of collapsing into qismət/alın yazısı fatalism. The baseline’s forbidden-substitution rule for election/providence extends explicitly to this term. Distinguish sharply: this is a personal Father’s decision ‘according to the good pleasure of his will,’ not impersonal fate.
Redemption
Approved rendering: Satınalma
Transliteration: sah-tuhn-ahl-MAH
Doctrine: The Atoning Blood and Death of Christ
Rejected alternatives: girov (commercial pledge/collateral, too transactional)
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
Release from bondage secured at the cost of a price paid — Christ’s blood (Eph 1:7, 14; 4:30). Distinct from Xilas (overall-salvation term): foregrounds a price paid. Must be explicitly connected to Christ’s blood, not left an abstract deliverance synonym.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: İrs
Transliteration: EERS
Doctrine: Inheritance in Christ
Rejected alternatives: miras (codified Islamic legal inheritance-share law)
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Election
The believer’s spiritual-eschatological inheritance in Christ, guaranteed by the Spirit (Eph 1:11, 14, 18; 5:5). Azerbaijani miras is a highly developed, legally codified, gender-differentiated inheritance system; İrs must be explicitly distinguished from it or readers will import foreign legal expectations.
Power Of God Fourfold
Approved rendering: Qüdrət, fəaliyyət, güc, hakimiyyət
Transliteration: kewd-RAT, fah-ah-lee-YAT, GEWJ, hah-kee-mee-YAT
Doctrine: Providence and Divine Purpose
Rejected alternatives: a single flattened power-word losing the rhetorical accumulation
Original: δύναμις, ἐνέργεια, ἰσχύς, κράτος
Category: God
A fourfold cluster of near-synonyms for divine power at work in Christ’s resurrection and in believers (Eph 1:19; 3:20; 6:10). Extends Allahın qüdrəti; must not be diluted into a single flat term and must be distinguished from generic fate/destiny power-language.
Principalities And Powers
Approved rendering: Hakimiyyətlər, qüvvələr, zülmətin dünya hökmdarları
Transliteration: hah-kee-mee-yat-LAIR, koov-vah-LAIR, zool-mah-TEEN doon-YAH hukm-dahr-lah-RUH
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: cin/jinn-adjacent folk-supernatural vocabulary
Original: ἀρχή, ἐξουσία, δύναμις, κυριότης / κοσμοκράτορας τοῦ σκότους
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Cosmic spiritual authorities Christ is exalted far above (Eph 1:21) and believers wrestle against (Eph 3:10; 6:12). Risk of conflation with folk-Islamic jinn/cin belief categories; teach as real but subordinated, already-defeated powers under Christ’s supreme lordship.
Christ As Head
Approved rendering: Baş
Transliteration: BAHSH
Doctrine: The Headship of Christ
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Ecclesiology
Christ’s supreme, life-giving governing authority over the church, his body (Eph 1:22; 4:15; 5:23). Must be established as Christ’s authority over the church before the more culturally sensitive marital application in ch. 5.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: Bədən
Transliteration: bah-DAN
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: σῶμα
Category: Ecclesiology
The church as Christ’s organic, united body (Eph 1:23; 4:4, 12, 16; 5:23, 30). Same root as the baseline’s Critical Bədən alma (incarnation); these are related but distinct claims — lesson material must not blur the eternal Son’s literal body-taking with the church’s figurative body-of-Christ status.
Law Of Commandments
Approved rendering: Qanun
Transliteration: kah-NOON
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Rejected alternatives: şəriət (Islamic religious law)
Original: νόμος τῶν ἐντολῶν
Category: Covenant
The Mosaic law, whose ceremonial dividing function is abolished in Christ (Eph 2:15). Never render with şəriət.
One New Humanity
Approved rendering: Bir yeni insan
Transliteration: BEER yeh-NEE een-SAHN
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: millət-based synthesis language importing ethno-religious connotations
Original: εἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
The genuinely new corporate identity created in Christ out of Jew and Gentile together (Eph 2:15) — theological centerpiece of this doctrine, not a synthesis or suppression of either group’s distinctiveness. Must be framed as theological, not political, given Azerbaijan’s diplomatic proximity to modern Israel.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: Barışdırmaq
Transliteration: bah-ruhsh-duhr-MAKH
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Original: ἀποκαταλλάσσω
Category: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
The double reconciliation Christ’s cross achieves — Jew and Gentile to each other, and both to God (Eph 2:16). Must be distinguished from ordinary interpersonal peacemaking to retain its cross-achieved, once-for-all weight.
Fellow Heirs
Approved rendering: Birgə mirasçılar
Transliteration: beer-GAH mee-rahs-chuh-LAHR
Doctrine: Inheritance in Christ
Original: συγκληρονόμος
Category: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Gentile believers declared equal co-heirs with Jewish believers of God’s promises (Eph 3:6). Extends the inheritance caution — equal co-heirship, avoid importing literal Islamic miras gendered-share categories.
Fellow Members Of The Body
Approved rendering: Birgə bədən üzvləri
Transliteration: beer-GAH bah-DAN oozv-lah-REE
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: σύσσωμος
Category: Ecclesiology
Gentile believers as full members of Christ’s one body alongside Jewish believers (Eph 3:6). Extends body_of_christ caution.
Boldness Confident Access
Approved rendering: Cəsarət
Transliteration: jah-sah-RAT
Doctrine: Assurance and Boldness in Christ
Original: παρρησία
Category: Assurance
Believers’ bold, confident approach to God through faith in Christ (Eph 3:12; 6:19-20). Categorically different, more audacious posture than probabilistic Islamic deferred-hope soteriology.
Walk Conduct Of Life
Approved rendering: Həyat sürmək
Transliteration: hah-YAHT soor-MAKH
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Rejected alternatives: dini vəzifə yerinə yetirmək (performing religious duty)
Original: περιπατέω
Category: Walking in Newness of Life
The book’s dominant metaphor for lived discipleship — habitual conduct of life (Eph 2:2, 10; 4:1, 17; 5:2, 8, 15). Must clearly mean lived conduct flowing from an already-secured identity in Christ, not duty-performance to become acceptable.
Walk Worthy
Approved rendering: Layiqincə həyat sürmək
Transliteration: lah-yee-geen-JAH hah-YAHT soor-MAKH
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: περιπατέω ἀξίως
Category: Walking in Newness of Life
The specific call to conduct worthy of the believer’s calling, opening the book’s ethical section (Eph 4:1). Structural hinge between doctrine (chs. 1-3) and practice (chs. 4-6); must flow from a calling already secured, not toward one still to be earned.
Baptism
Approved rendering: Vəftiz
Transliteration: vaf-TEEZ
Doctrine: Baptism as Union with Christ
Rejected alternatives: dəstəmaz/ğüsl-adjacent repeatable ritual ablution framing
Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Walking in Newness of Life
The believer’s single, once-for-all public identification with Christ’s death and resurrection (Eph 4:5). Azerbaijani readers may map ‘one baptism’ onto repeatable ritual-ablution categories (dəstəmaz, ğüsl); must clarify this is a single, once-for-all act.
Descended And Ascended
Approved rendering: Enmə / Yüksəlmə
Transliteration: en-MAH / yook-sal-MAH
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: symbolic or docetic up-and-down framing
Original: καταβαίνω / ἀναβαίνω
Category: Christology
Christ’s incarnational descent and subsequent ascension, the ground of his gift-giving to the church (Eph 4:9-10). Must be anchored to Bədən alma (incarnation) and the Critical resurrection/ascension sequence — a real descent into full humanity, a real death and resurrection, and a real bodily ascension.
Mature Manhood
Approved rendering: Yetkin insan
Transliteration: yet-KEEN een-SAHN
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: kamil / mükəmməl (Sufi/Shia insan-i kamil, ‘Perfect Man’ mystical-master collision)
Original: ἀνὴρ τέλειος
Category: Gifts for Building Up the Church
The corporate goal of Christian maturity — the measure of the stature of Christ’s fullness (Eph 4:13). Must NEVER be rendered with kamil, which carries strong Sufi/Shia associations with insan-i kamil, a spiritually perfected master who has attained a unique elevated mystical station. Yetkin preserves corporate, ongoing Christian maturity rather than individual mystical attainment.
Old Self New Self
Approved rendering: Köhnə insan / Yeni insan
Transliteration: kuh-NAH een-SAHN / yeh-NEE een-SAHN
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ: The New Self
Original: παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος / καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Walking in Newness of Life
The believer’s definitive, once-for-all change of nature in Christ (Eph 4:22-24). Must be presented as an identity already true positionally and being progressively realized experientially — not a lifelong self-improvement project on an unchanged nature.
Grieving The Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Müqəddəs Ruhu kədərləndirmək
Transliteration: myoo-kad-dass ROO-hoo kah-dar-lan-deer-MAKH
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit as a Divine Person
Original: λυπέω τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον
Category: God
Sin’s effect on the personal Holy Spirit indwelling believers (Eph 4:30). Directly reinforces the Critical holy_spirit caution: only a genuinely personal divine Being can be grieved — strong positive personhood evidence against any Cəbrail or impersonal-force reading.
Sacrificial Offering
Approved rendering: Təqdim, qurban, xoş ətir
Transliteration: tag-DEEM, koor-BAHN, khosh ah-TEER
Doctrine: The Atoning Blood and Death of Christ
Original: προσφορά, θυσία, ὀσμὴ εὐωδίας
Category: Christology
Christ’s self-offering as a sweet-smelling sacrifice to God (Eph 5:2). Qurban is central to the annual Qurban Bayramı (Eid al-Adha) ritual animal-sacrifice festival; Christ’s self-offering must be taught explicitly as a unique, historical, once-for-all sacrifice, not one instance of an ongoing sacrificial pattern.
Children Of Light
Approved rendering: İşıq övladları / Zülmət övladları
Transliteration: ee-SHUHK uv-lahd-lah-RUH / zool-MAT uv-lahd-lah-RUH
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Rejected alternatives: nur (Nur-i Məhəmmədi, pre-existent Light of the Imams association)
Original: τέκνα φωτός / σκότος
Category: Walking in Newness of Life
The believer’s transformed moral-relational identity as children of light rather than darkness (Eph 5:8). Render φωτός as işıq, NEVER nur — nur is heavily associated in Azerbaijani Shia devotional tradition with the pre-existent Light of the Imams, an incompatible pre-existence/glory claim.
Filled With The Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruhla dolmaq
Transliteration: rooh-LAH dohl-MAKH
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit as a Divine Person
Rejected alternatives: ecstatic zikr/trance-adjacent experiential vocabulary
Original: πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι
Category: God
The ongoing, Word- and worship-saturated yieldedness to the Spirit, contrasted with drunkenness (Eph 5:18). Must not be read through the lens of ecstatic/trance devotional states found in some Sufi-influenced zikr practice; evidenced by singing, thanksgiving, and mutual submission (vv. 19-21), not an induced altered state.
Mutual Submission
Approved rendering: Tabe olmaq
Transliteration: tah-BAY ohl-MAKH
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: təslim olmaq (surrender, too passive/total)
Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Household Codes
Believers’ mutual submission to one another in reverence for Christ, framing the specific wife/husband instruction that follows (Eph 5:21-24). V.21’s mutual submission must always be taught as the interpretive frame for vv.22-33, not an assertion of unqualified gender-based authority independent of Christ’s self-giving example — a live risk given Azerbaijani patriarchal norms shaped by both Soviet-era and Islamic-legal family structures.
Sanctification And Washing
Approved rendering: Təqdisetmə, Su ilə yuma
Transliteration: tag-dees-et-MAY, SOO ee-LAH yoo-MAH
Doctrine: Sanctification and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: dəstəmaz/ğüsl-adjacent repeatable ablution framing
Original: ἁγιάζω, καθαρίζω, λουτρὸν τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν ῥήματι
Category: Sanctification
Christ’s sanctifying and cleansing of the church through the washing of water by the word (Eph 5:26). The washing/word imagery evokes baptism and must be kept distinct from ritual ablution practice.
Bondservants And Masters
Approved rendering: Qul / Ağa
Transliteration: KOOL / AH-ah
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: Rəbb (reserved exclusively for Christ’s divine Lordship — never for a human master)
Original: δοῦλος / κύριος
Category: Household Codes
TRANSLATOR CAUTION: the same Greek κύριος means Christ’s exclusive divine Lord (Rəbb) elsewhere in the curriculum but a human household master here (Eph 6:5-9) — the single sharpest context-sensitivity test case in the whole curriculum. Use Ağa/Sahib for the human sense and NEVER Rəbb; every occurrence must be individually checked against its referent. Also note Qul is a positively loaded Islamic devotional word (Allahın qulu, ‘servant of God’); a brief first-use teaching note should distinguish this historical socioeconomic category from that unrelated devotional sense.
Armor Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın tam zirehi
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN tahm zee-reh-HEE
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: cihad/mübarizə-adjacent political-religious struggle vocabulary
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
The full defensive equipment God provides for standing against spiritual opposition (Eph 6:11, 13). Military-conflict imagery risks being heard through the lens of jihad-adjacent political-religious struggle language, a legally and socially sensitive category in Azerbaijan; must be framed as defensive, non-violent, and exclusively spiritual.
Breastplate Shield Helmet
Approved rendering: Salehlik zirehi, İman qalxanı, Xilas dəbilqəsi
Transliteration: sah-lehk-LEEK zee-reh-HEE, ee-MAHN gahl-khah-NUH, khee-LAHS dah-beel-gah-SEE
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: θώραξ δικαιοσύνης, θυρεὸς τῆς πίστεως, περικεφαλαία τοῦ σωτηρίου
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Pieces of the believer’s spiritual armor, named for righteousness, faith, and salvation (Eph 6:14, 16, 17). Salehlik/İman/Xilas roots are reused exactly and each carries its own Critical/High caution independently; must not be diluted by the military metaphor’s vividness.
Word Of God Rhema
Approved rendering: Allahın Sözü
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN suh-ZEW
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: Allahın kəlamı (Kəlamullah, Qur’anic-uncreated-speech-adjacent term)
Original: ῥῆμα Θεοῦ
Category: Scripture
The sword of the Spirit — the spoken/proclaimed word of God as a weapon in spiritual warfare (Eph 6:17). Do NOT render as Allahın kəlamı, closely associated with Qur’anic uncreated-speech doctrine; Allahın Sözü is the safer, already-established Bible-translation phrase.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: Həvari
Transliteration: heh-vah-REE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: peyğəmbər (prophet-messenger), imam (in the Shia sense of an infallible spiritual-political successor)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Guard specifically against imam-shaped associations: apostles are commissioned eyewitnesses to the risen Christ, not an infallible successive spiritual authority line. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:1; 2:20; 3:5; 4:11).
Peace
Approved rendering: Sülh
Transliteration: SYULKH
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: rahatlıq (inner calm/comfort)
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Relational peace with God through justification, not psychological comfort. Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians extends this to horizontal Jew-Gentile peace (Eph 2:14-17) alongside the vertical sense (Eph 1:2; 6:15, 23) — both dimensions must be made explicit in teaching material.
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: Ruhani hədiyyələr
Transliteration: roo-hah-NEE hah-dee-YAY-lair
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: kəramət (a miraculous sign associated with a saint or Imam in Shia and Sufi tradition)
Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, now anchoring the curriculum doctrine ‘Gifts for Building Up the Church’ (Eph 4:7-16) alongside the fivefold-office terms below.
Church
Approved rendering: Kilsə
Transliteration: keel-SAY
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: məscid-vari icma (mosque-like religious community)
Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, now central to the curriculum doctrine ‘The Church as the Body of Christ’ (Eph 1:22-23; 3:10, 21; 5:23-32).
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın Padşahlığı
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN pahd-shah-luh-UH
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: Allahın dövləti (God’s state/nation)
Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 5:5, paired with the new term inheritance).
Gentiles
Approved rendering: Millətlər
Transliteration: mil-lat-LAIR
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: kafirlər (unbelievers/infidels), bütpərəstlər (idolaters, archaic)
Ethnically neutral Bible term for non-Jews. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, now central to ‘Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity’ (Eph 2:11; 3:1, 6, 8).
Covenant
Approved rendering: Əhd
Transliteration: AKHD
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: müqavilə (bare commercial contract)
Relational-covenant term, not a bare commercial agreement. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage in the compound covenant_of_promise (new term, Eph 2:12).
Mission
Approved rendering: Müjdə yayma xidməti
Transliteration: myuzh-DAH yai-MAH khee-dmah-TEE
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Rejected alternatives: təbliğ (Islamic da’wah-style proselytizing, legally sensitive term)
Avoids təbliğ, a legally sensitive regulated-activity term in Azerbaijan. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage, relevant background for the new term ambassador_for_christ (Eph 6:20).
Israel
Approved rendering: İsrail
Transliteration: ees-rah-EEL
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Proper name; established Azerbaijani Bible form. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 2:12), where the diplomatic/cultural proximity of Azerbaijan to the modern state of the same name is a distinct non-doctrinal association requiring teaching-note care.
Trespasses
Approved rendering: Təqsirlər
Transliteration: tag-seer-LAIR
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Sin and Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: səhvlər (mere mistakes)
Original: παράπτωμα
Category: Sin
A specific transgression or lapse, paired with Günah (sin) at Eph 2:1, 5 to describe both specific acts and a general sinful state. Must not be collapsed into a single word or the doublet’s rhetorical weight is lost.
Lust Of The Flesh
Approved rendering: Nəfsin istəkləri
Transliteration: naf-SEEN ees-tak-lah-REE
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Sin and Spiritual Death
Original: ἐπιθυμία
Category: Sin
Disordered craving of the corrupted human nature (Eph 2:3). Nəfs is a familiar Sufi-influenced devotional category; genuine partial resonance exists, but Ephesians locates the remedy in grace and the Spirit, not ascetic self-discipline against nəfs.
Disobedience
Approved rendering: İtaətsizlik
Transliteration: ee-tah-at-seez-LEEK
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Sin and Spiritual Death
Original: ἀπείθεια
Category: Sin
Willful non-compliance with God’s revealed will; ‘sons of disobedience’ (Eph 2:2; 5:6). Must be kept as the clear opposite of itaət (obedience) used positively in the baseline’s obedience_of_faith term, not read as a variant of the same idea.
Mercy
Approved rendering: Mərhəmət
Transliteration: mar-hah-MAT
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation
God’s compassion shown toward those in misery or distress, distinct from grace shown apart from merit (Eph 2:4). Mərhəmət is deeply established Islamic devotional vocabulary (Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim) — genuine resonance — but must be kept distinct from Lütf, since Eph 2:4-8 deliberately uses both with different theological weight.
Boasting
Approved rendering: Öyünmək
Transliteration: uh-yoon-MAKH
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: καυχάομαι
Category: Salvation
Self-congratulation before God, explicitly excluded by grace-alone salvation (Eph 2:9).
Workmanship
Approved rendering: Sənət əsəri
Transliteration: sah-NAT ah-sah-REE
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ: The New Self
Rejected alternatives: məhsul (product, too impersonal/industrial)
Original: ποίημα
Category: Salvation
Believers themselves as God’s own crafted product, made new in Christ (Eph 2:10). Must be kept visually and lexically distinct from Yaxşı əməllər (good works) in the same verse; the verse’s logic depends on the contrast between what God made us and the good works that result.
Dispensation
Approved rendering: İdarəetmə / Tədbir
Transliteration: ee-dah-rah-et-MAY / tad-BEER
Doctrine: Providence and Divine Purpose
Rejected alternatives: bureaucratic Soviet-administrative register phrasing
Original: οἰκονομία
Category: Mystery
God’s ordered plan/administration for redemptive history (Eph 1:10; 3:2, 9). Avoid flattened bureaucratic register; connect conceptually to Allahın tədbiri (providence).
Divine Purpose
Approved rendering: Məqsəd / Niyyət
Transliteration: mag-SAD / nee-YAT
Doctrine: Providence and Divine Purpose
Original: πρόθεσις / βουλή
Category: Election
God’s personal, purposive plan behind election and predestination (Eph 1:11; 3:11). Reinforces personal, purposive character of God’s plan against qismət-style impersonal fate.
Sealed With The Spirit
Approved rendering: Möhürləmək
Transliteration: muh-hoor-lah-MAKH
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit as a Divine Person
Original: σφραγίζω
Category: Sanctification
The Holy Spirit as God’s mark of ownership placed on believers (Eph 1:13; 4:30). Every occurrence should reinforce, not undercut, the Spirit’s personhood — not an impersonal force or Cəbrail.
Spirit Of Wisdom And Revelation
Approved rendering: Hikmət və vəhy ruhu
Transliteration: heek-MAT vah vah-HEE roo-HOO
Doctrine: Providence and Divine Purpose
Original: πνεῦμα σοφίας καὶ ἀποκαλύψεως
Category: God
The Spirit’s work of granting believers deepened knowledge of God (Eph 1:17). ‘Vəhy’ is Islamically loaded (revelation to a prophet, culminating in the Qur’an); established in Azerbaijani Bible usage but should be qualified as ordinary theological usage, not new post-biblical revelation.
Fullness Of Christ
Approved rendering: Bütövlük / Tamlıq
Transliteration: boo-tuv-LEWK / tahm-LUHK
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Ecclesiology
The church as the fullness of him who fills all in all (Eph 1:23; 3:19; 4:13). Risk is primarily comprehensibility; requires careful explanatory framing at first use.
Circumcision Uncircumcision
Approved rendering: Sünnət / Sünnətsizlik
Transliteration: soon-NAT / soon-nat-SEEZ-leek
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: περιτομή / ἀκροβυστία
Category: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
The former covenant-boundary marker between Jew and Gentile, now abolished in Christ (Eph 2:11). Male circumcision is a live, near-universal Azerbaijani cultural-religious practice for a different (Islamic) reason; the text’s covenant-boundary point needs explicit unpacking.
Estrangement From Israel
Approved rendering: Yad, qərib, Allahsız
Transliteration: YAHD, gah-REEB, ahl-lah-SEEZ
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: ξένος, πάροικος, ἄθεος
Category: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Gentiles’ former exclusion from Israel’s covenants and hope, reversed in Christ (Eph 2:12). Must not sound like a permanent ethnic verdict, given the following verses’ reversal into ‘one new humanity.‘
Covenant Of Promise
Approved rendering: Əhd (vədin)
Transliteration: AKHD (vah-DEEN)
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: διαθήκη τῆς ἐπαγγελίας

Household Of God
Approved rendering: Vətəndaşlar, Allahın ev əhli
Transliteration: vah-tan-dahsh-LAHR, ahl-lah-HUHN ev ah-lee

Temple Of God
Approved rendering: Məbəd
Transliteration: mah-BAD
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: məscid (mosque)
Original: ναός
Category: Church
The church figuratively as God’s holy temple, his dwelling place (Eph 2:21). Distinct from məscid; the figurative sense must be made explicit to avoid confusion with a literal building.
Revelation
Approved rendering: Vəhy / Açılma
Transliteration: vah-HEE / ah-chuhl-MAH
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Mystery
God’s disclosure of the mystery of Christ to Paul and the apostles/prophets (Eph 3:3, 5). Same ‘vəhy’ caution as spirit_of_wisdom_and_revelation.
Unity Of The Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruhun birliyi, sülhün bağı
Transliteration: roo-HOON beer-lee-YEE, sool-HOON bah-UH
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: ἑνότης τοῦ Πνεύματος, σύνδεσμος τῆς εἰρήνης
Category: Ecclesiology

Pastor
Approved rendering: Çoban
Transliteration: choh-BAHN
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: mullah-modeled sole clergy-authority framing
Original: ποιμήν
Category: Gifts for Building Up the Church
The shepherding office among the fivefold gifted offices (Eph 4:11). Care needed that çoban not be read through a clergy-mediated-authority lens resembling a mullah’s community role.
Equipping The Saints
Approved rendering: Hazırlamaq / Təchiz etmə
Transliteration: hah-zuhr-lah-MAKH / tah-CHEEZ et-MAH
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: kamilləşdirmə (perfecting, reserved for the mature_manhood caution)
Original: καταρτισμός
Category: Gifts for Building Up the Church
The fivefold offices’ purpose of preparing believers for ministry and service (Eph 4:12). Avoid the more loaded ‘kamilləşdirmə’; this describes ongoing preparation, not attained sinless perfection.

Approved rendering: Düşüncədə ruhən yenilənmək
Transliteration: dew-shoon-jah-DAH roo-HAN yeh-nee-lan-MAKH
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life

Transliteration: bah-uhsh-lah-MAKH
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: χαρίζομαι
Category: Household Codes
Interpersonal forgiveness modeled on God’s forgiveness in Christ (Eph 4:32). Keep Christ’s finished work explicit as the ground; the everyday interpersonal sense is primary here, distinct from the fuller justification concept when that specific doctrine is in view.
Sexual Immorality And Covetousness
Approved rendering: Əxlaqsızlıq, murdarlıq, tamahkarlıq
Transliteration: akh-lahk-suhz-LUHK, moor-dahr-LUHK, tah-mah-kahr-LUHK
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: πορνεία, ἀκαθαρσία, πλεονεξία
Category: Household Codes

Self Sacrificial Love
Approved rendering: Sevmək … özünü təslim etmək
Transliteration: sev-MAKH … uz-oo-NOO tas-LEEM et-MAKH
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: romantik hisslər (romantic sentiment)
Original: ἀγαπάω … παραδίδωμι

Approved rendering: Dua, yalvarış, dözümlə davam etmə
Transliteration: doo-AH, yahl-vah-RUHSH, duh-zoom-LAH dah-VAHM et-MAY
Doctrine: Prayer in the Spirit
Original: προσευχή, δέησις, προσκαρτέρησις
Category: Prayer
The believer’s own persistent prayer ‘in the Spirit,’ the final piece of spiritual warfare readiness (Eph 6:18). Keep clearly distinct from the Critical intercession caution — this is the believer’s own praying, not a mediating third party’s intercessory office.
Ambassador For Christ
Approved rendering: Səfir
Transliteration: sah-FEER
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Original: πρεσβεύω
Category: Mission
Paul’s self-description as Christ’s ambassador even while imprisoned, proclaiming the gospel boldly (Eph 6:20). A positive, dignified image; minor risk of sounding overly diplomatic without brief explanation to keep it gospel-proclamation-centered.
Low Risk Terms
Thanksgiving
Approved rendering: Şükran
Transliteration: shook-RAHN
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Standard term shared with everyday şükür vocabulary. Inherited from Romans package; unchanged for Ephesians usage (Eph 1:16; 5:4, 20).

Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Original: φραγμός
