Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Gospel of John (English → Azerbaijani)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, across all 21 chapters of John. Terms marked (Reused — baseline Romans TM) carry forward the exact Azerbaijani rendering already fixed in translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json and must not be altered. All other terms are new John-curriculum entries proposed for addition to translation memory in Phase 2, pending theologian sign-off per risk tier.
Risk tiers follow the baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions: Critical (theologian review, every occurrence) / High (theologian review) / Medium (native speaker review) / Low (automated review).
A. Christology — Deity, Pre-existence, and Sonship of Christ
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| λόγος (logos) | LO-gos | Söz | Critical | 1:1, 1:14 | New entry. Bridges to, but must be sharply distinguished from, Qur’anic Kəlimətullah (“Word of God” for Isa), which denies eternal co-existence. Söz = eternally pre-existent, personally distinct, fully divine agent of creation. |
| ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο | ho logos sarx egeneto | Bədən alma | Critical | 1:14 | (Reused — baseline Romans TM, “incarnation”). Exact match; no new rendering needed. |
| μονογενής (monogenēs) | mo-no-ye-NACE | yeganə (paired: Allahın yeganə Oğlu) | Critical | 1:14, 1:18, 3:16, 3:18 | New entry. Denotes uniqueness, not biological begetting. Rejected: any phrase built primarily on doğulmaq (born/begotten) as the head term, to avoid reinforcing the literal-offspring reading Qur’an 112:3 forbids. |
| υἱὸς θεοῦ / ὁ υἱός | huios theou | Allahın Oğlu | Critical | 1:34, 3:16-18, 5:25, 9:35, 10:36, 11:4, 19:7, 20:31 | (Reused — baseline Romans TM, “son_of_god”). Exact match throughout John. |
| ἴσος τῷ θεῷ (isos tō theō) | EE-sos toh the-OH | Allahla bərabər | Critical | 5:18 | New entry. Direct deity-of-Christ claim; the narrator does not correct the charge. |
| ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἕν ἐσμεν | egō kai ho patēr hen esmen | Mən və Ata biriz | Critical | 10:30 | New entry. Unity of Father and Son doctrine’s central verse; sharpest tawhid collision besides Sonship/deity texts. Route for mandatory theologian review. |
| πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγώ εἰμι | prin Abraam genesthai egō eimi | İbrahim olmamışdan əvvəl Mən Varam | Critical | 8:58 | New entry. Absolute “I am,” echoing Exodus 3:14 LXX (God’s self-naming to Moses); a present-tense self-existence claim, not a mere temporal-priority claim. |
| ἐγώ εἰμι (absolute, umbrella) | e-GOH ay-MEE | Mən Varam | Critical | 8:24, 8:28, 8:58, 13:19, 18:5-8 | New entry (umbrella term). Absolute, unpredicated “I am” statements distinct from the seven predicated “I Am” sayings below; must retain the divine self-naming echo. |
| ὁ κύριός μου καὶ ὁ θεός μου | ho kyrios mou kai ho theos mou | Rəbbim və Allahım! | Critical | 20:28 | New entry. Thomas’s confession; parallels Romans 10:9’s İsa Rəbdir as a salvation-confession climax. Combines baseline Rəbb with Allah applied directly to the risen Christ. |
| υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου (huios tou anthrōpou) | hoo-ee-OS too an-throh-POO | Bəşər Oğlu / İnsan Oğlu | High | 3:13-14, 5:27, 9:35, 12:23, 13:31 | New entry. Draws on Daniel 7:13-14’s exalted, authoritative figure; must not be flattened to “merely a man,” nor confused with Allahın Oğlu — the two titles together hold full humanity and full deity in tension. |
| δοξάζω (doxazō) | dok-SAHD-zoh | izzətləndirmək (verb, root-paired with established noun Ehtişam) | High | 7:39, 12:23-28, 13:31-32, 17:1-24 | New entry. John’s glory-through-the-cross theology: a shameful death presented as the moment of glorification — a paradox foreign to standard honor-shame expectations; requires teaching support. |
| ἐπίγειος / ἐπουράνιος | epigeios / epouranios | dünyəvi / səmavi | Low-Medium | 3:12 | New entry; səmavi overlaps positively with Islamic vocabulary for divinely-revealed things — genuine resonance point. |
| ἀναβαίνω / καταβαίνω | anabainō / katabainō | yuxarı qalxmaq / aşağı enmək | Medium | 3:13, 6:38, 6:62 | New entry. Asserts heavenly pre-existence and voluntary descent — no category in Islamic prophetology. |
B. The Seven “I Am” Statements (Umbrella Doctrine Category)
| Statement (Greek) | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Reference | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ὁ ἄρτος τῆς ζωῆς | Mən həyat çörəyiyəm | Critical | 6:35, 48 | Sole, sufficient source of spiritual sustenance. |
| τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου | Mən dünyanın işığıyam | Critical | 8:12, 9:5 | See Section D below — flagship “nur vs işıq” risk of this package. |
| ἡ θύρα | Mən qapıyam | Critical | 10:7, 9 | Sole means of access/salvation. |
| ὁ ποιμὴν ὁ καλός | Mən yaxşı Çobanam | Critical | 10:11, 14 | Lays down his life for the sheep — links to Substitutionary Death doctrine. |
| ἡ ἀνάστασις καὶ ἡ ζωή | Diriliş və həyat Mənəm | Critical | 11:25 | Must retain baseline noun Diriliş exactly, unparaphrased. |
| ἡ ὁδὸς καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια καὶ ἡ ζωή | Mən yol, həqiqət və həyatam | Critical | 14:6 | Includes an explicit exclusivity clause (“no one comes to the Father except through me”) — must not be softened. |
| ἡ ἄμπελος ἡ ἀληθινή | Mən həqiqi tənəyəm | Critical | 15:1, 5 | Governs the “abide” (μένω) discourse of ch.15. |
All seven statements share the umbrella risk factor: the underlying grammatical construction is the same emphatic ἐγώ εἰμι (“I am”) found in the absolute self-existence statements above (8:58 etc.), so even the “predicated” I Am sayings carry an echo of the divine self-naming formula and should not be treated as merely descriptive metaphors (“I am like a shepherd”) but as identity-claims spoken by the one bearing the divine Name.
C. Pneumatology — The Holy Spirit as Counselor
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| πνεῦμα ἅγιον | pneuma hagion | Müqəddəs Ruh | Critical | 1:32-33, 3:5-8, 14:26, 20:22 | (Reused — baseline Romans TM, “holy_spirit”). Never Cəbrail. |
| παράκλητος (paraklētos) | pa-RAK-lay-tos | Təsəlliverən (primary) / Köməkçi (contextual variant) | Critical | 14:16, 14:26, 15:26, 16:7 | New entry — anchor term for the “Holy Spirit as Counselor” doctrine. Rejected: şəfaətçi (already forbidden per baseline’s Christ-intercession rule, Shia Imamate associations); rejected: vəkil in its ordinary modern “lawyer” sense (risks a transactional/legalistic misreading). |
| πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας | pneuma tēs alētheias | həqiqət Ruhu | Critical | 14:17, 15:26, 16:13 | New entry. Trinitarian procession language (“proceeds from the Father,” “sent” by the Son) — route for theologian review; must not collapse the Spirit into an impersonal force. |
| ὕδωρ ζῶν (hydōr zōn) | HOO-dor ZOHN | diri su (alt. həyat suyu) | Medium-High | 4:10-14, 7:38-39 | New entry. Risk of overlap with Azerbaijani pir/ocaq shrine-water veneration (ziyarat folk practice); must be taught as a Spirit/eternal-life metaphor, not physical healing water. |
| ἕλκύω (helkyō) | hel-KOO-oh | cəzb etmək | High | 6:44 | New entry. Parallels baseline Election/Calling entries; avoid qismət-style fatalism; retain personal, relational sense of the Father’s initiating grace. |
| ἐλέγξει (elegxei / ἐλέγχω) | el-ENG-ksay | ifşa etmək | High | 3:20, 16:8 | New entry. The Spirit’s/light’s convicting ministry regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment; render consistently across both passages. |
| λάβετε πνεῦμα ἅγιον | labete pneuma hagion | Müqəddəs Ruhu qəbul edin | Critical | 20:22 | Built on the reused baseline term; enacted commissioning sign. |
D. The Flagship Light Risk — φῶς (phōs) vs. “Nur”
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| φῶς (phōs) | FOSE | işıq (recommended) — NEVER nur | Critical | 1:4-9, 3:19-21, 8:12, 9:5, 12:35-36 | This is the single most important new risk-flag generated by this analysis. The baseline already rejected nur for δόξα (“glory”) because of its heavy Shia devotional association with Nur-i Məhəmmədi, the pre-existent light believed to pass through Muhammad and the Twelve Imams. John’s Gospel makes light itself a major Christological title (“I am the light of the world,” 8:12), which makes this collision unavoidable rather than incidental. Using nur for Christ’s light-sayings would risk assimilating Christ into the Nur-i Məhəmmədi lineage-doctrine as merely one more link in a chain of pre-existent light-bearers, rather than presenting him as the unique, singular, divine source of light. This analysis recommends the plainer, non-devotionally-loaded işıq throughout, paired with explicit teaching notes supplying the elevated theological register that işıq’s ordinary usage does not automatically carry on its own. |
| σκότος / σκοτία (skotos/skotia) | SKO-tos / sko-TEE-ah | qaranlıq | Low-Medium | 1:5, 3:19, 8:12, 12:35 | Standard pairing term; low risk on its own. |
E. Soteriology — New Birth, Eternal Life, Judgment
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| γεννηθῇ ἄνωθεν (gennēthē anōthen) | gen-nay-THAY AH-noh-then | yenidən doğulmaq (primary); yuxarıdan doğulmaq (where “from above” sense is load-bearing) | Critical | 3:3, 3:7, 3:31 | New entry — anchor term for “New Birth and Regeneration” doctrine. Genuine Greek ambiguity (again / from above) must be flagged per ambiguity-handling protocol. No Islamic doctrinal parallel; risk of literal-rebirth or reincarnation misreading (as Nicodemus himself illustrates). |
| ἐξ ὕδατος καὶ πνεύματος | ex hydatos kai pneumatos | su və Ruhdan doğulmaq | High | 3:5 | New entry. Risk of assimilation to Islamic ritual-ablution (dəstəmaz/ğüsl) categories; must be taught as Spirit-wrought transformation, not ritual-washing merit. |
| τέκνα θεοῦ (tekna theou) | TEK-na the-OO | Allahın övladları | High | 1:12, 11:52 | New entry. Distinct governing metaphor (organic birth) from baseline’s Övladlığa götürülmə (legal adoption, Romans); both true, must not be flattened together. |
| ἐκ θεοῦ ἐγεννήθησαν | ek theou egennēthēsan | Allahdan doğulmaq | High | 1:13 | New entry. God alone is the agent of the new birth — excludes human will/effort/lineage. |
| ζωὴ αἰώνιος (zōē aiōnios) | zoh-AY ai-OH-nee-os | əbədi həyat | Critical | 3:15-16, 3:36, 5:24, 6:47, 10:28, 17:3, 20:31 | New entry. Must be taught as a present possession received now by faith (John 17:3’s own definition: relational knowledge of God through Christ), not merely a deferred, deeds-weighed afterlife reward — directly parallel to the baseline’s Critical “salvation” (Xilas) risk profile. |
| σῴζω / σωθῇ (sōzō) | SOH-dzoh | xilas olmaq | Critical | 3:17, 5:34, 10:9, 12:47 | (Reused root — baseline Romans TM, “salvation” = Xilas). Verb form built on the established noun; same Critical risk profile — never a deferred, Imamate-intercession-contingent hope. |
| σωτὴρ τοῦ κόσμου (sōtēr tou kosmou) | soh-TARE too KOZ-mou | dünyanın Xilaskarı | Critical | 4:42 | New title-noun entry, built on baseline Xilas. Reinforces universal scope of salvation. |
| κρίσις / κρίνω (krisis/krinō) | KREE-sis / KREE-noh | hökm / məhkum etmək | High | 3:17-19, 5:22-30, 9:39, 12:31, 16:8, 16:11 | New entry. John’s present-tense judgment structure (belief/unbelief settles verdict now, cf. 3:18’s “already condemned”) categorically differs from the exclusively future, Judgment-Day-oriented Islamic framework; must not be softened into a merely probabilistic future prospect. |
| ἀπόλλυμι (apollymi) | ah-POL-loo-mee | məhv olmaq / həlak olmaq | Medium | 3:16, 10:28 | New entry. Names a real, final loss — must retain full negative weight. |
| ὀργὴ τοῦ θεοῦ (orgē tou theou) | or-GAY too the-OO | Allahın qəzəbi | High | 3:36 | New entry. Distinguish from impersonal folk-fatalism; God’s righteous, personal response to persistent unbelief toward the Son, paired in the same verse with the offer of life. |
| ἁρπάζω (harpazō) | har-PAHD-zoh | əlindən qapmaq | Critical | 10:28-29 | New entry. Assurance-of-Salvation statement; security rests on the Father’s/Son’s shared, unbreakable grip, not believer performance. |
| πιστεύω (pisteuō) | pis-TEF-oh | iman etmək (primary, doctrinal contexts); inanmaq (natural-register narrative variant) | Critical | Pervasive — 98 occurrences; climax 20:30-31 | New verb entry, paired with baseline noun İman. The operative verb of the entire Gospel; must be rendered with a single consistent Azerbaijani verb family throughout for cross-document consistency. |
F. Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἀμνὸς τοῦ θεοῦ (amnos tou theou) | am-NOS too the-OO | Allahın Quzusu | Critical | 1:29, 1:36 | New entry. Distinct sacrificial logic from the Islamic qurban (Eid al-Adha commemorative substitute-animal ritual); requires explicit Passover/Isaiah 53 OT background teaching, not assumed transfer of qurban categories. |
| σάρξ μου, αἷμα μου (sarx mou, haima mou) | sarks moo, HAI-ma moo | ətim, qanım (with heavy teaching support) | Critical | 6:51-56 | New entry. Vivid metaphor for personally receiving Christ’s atoning death; must avoid literal-cannibalism misreading and avoid flattening into a merely symbolic memorial divorced from the atonement itself. |
| ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ποιμὴν ὁ καλός (lays down life) | — | Mən yaxşı Çobanam | Critical | 10:11, 14-15 | See Section B; explicit substitutionary self-giving (“lays down his life for the sheep”). |
| κόκκος τοῦ σίτου (kokkos tou sitou) | KOK-kos too SEE-too | buğda dənəsi | Medium | 12:24 | New entry. Death-then-fruitfulness metaphor reinforcing the necessity, not just occurrence, of Christ’s death. |
| σταυρόω (stauroō) | stav-ROH-oh | çarmıxa çəkmək | Critical | 19:16-18, 23 | New entry. Directly opposes Qur’an 4:157’s crucifixion-denial; must be plain, real, historical, never softened or omitted. |
| τετέλεσται (tetelestai) | te-TEL-es-tai | Tamam oldu | Critical | 19:30 | New entry. “Accomplished/completed,” not merely “ended” — anchors the finished-work-of-atonement doctrine against a deeds/intercession-pending framework. |
| αἷμα καὶ ὕδωρ (haima kai hydōr) | — | qan və su | High | 19:34 | New entry. Evidentiary confirmation of a real, physical death — supports Resurrection doctrine’s insistence on a prior real death. |
| ἐγείρω / ἀνάστασις (egeirō/anastasis) | e-GAY-ee-ro / a-NAS-ta-sis | diriltmək / Diriliş | Critical | 2:19-22, 5:21, 6:39-54, 11:25, ch.20 | (Reused — baseline Romans TM, “resurrection” = Diriliş). Verb form built on the established noun; never a no-death ascension. |
| ζωοποιέω (zōopoieō) | zoh-oh-poy-EH-oh | həyat vermək | High | 5:21, 6:63 | New entry. Shared, exclusive divine life-giving prerogative of Father and Son. |
G. Love, Truth, Unity, and Worship
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἀγαπάω ὁ θεὸς τὸν κόσμον | — | Allah dünyanı sevdi | High | 3:16 | New entry (verse-specific application of ἀγαπάω, see below). Anchor verse for “God’s Love for the World” doctrine; universal scope must be retained. |
| ἀγαπάω / φιλέω (agapaō/phileō) | a-ga-PAH-oh / fee-LEH-oh | sevmək (single Azerbaijani verb; distinction not reproducible) | Medium | 3:16, 13:1, 13:34, 21:15-17 | New entry. Translation-mechanics risk, not doctrinal collision: Azerbaijani lacks the Greek’s two-verb distinction; flag for translator footnote in 21:15-17 specifically. |
| κόσμος (kosmos) | KOZ-mos | dünya | High | 1:10, 1:29, 3:16-17, 15:18-19, 17:14 | New entry. Dual sense (humanity as object of God’s love / world-system in rebellion) requires context-sensitive teaching notes each occurrence. |
| ἀλήθεια (alētheia) | a-LAY-thay-ah | həqiqət | Medium | 1:14, 4:24, 8:32, 14:6, 17:17, 18:37-38 | New entry. Major recurring Johannine category; note potential overlap with Sufi devotional “Haqq” (Truth/Reality as mystical goal) — clarify truth as personal (Christ himself), not abstract mystical absorption. |
| ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἕν ἐσμεν / ἓν ὦσιν | — | Mən və Ata biriz / bir olsunlar | Critical / High | 10:30; 17:11, 21-23 | See Section A (Father-Son) and here (believers’ unity modeled on it). Must not be flattened to organizational/institutional merger. |
| προσκυνέω (proskyneō) | pros-koo-NEH-oh | ibadət etmək (general worship); səcdə etmək (specific bowing/prostration action where literal) | Critical | 4:20-24, 9:38 | New entry. Worship offered to Jesus (9:38) makes the same total-devotion claim tawhid al-‘ibadah reserves exclusively for Allah — must sharpen, not soften, this claim per baseline doctrinal-preservation rule. |
| ἐντολὴ καινή (entolē kainē) | en-to-LAY kai-NAY | yeni əmr | Medium | 13:34 | New entry. Christ’s own self-giving love as the explicit new standard. |
| μένω (menō) | MEH-noh | qalmaq | High | 15:4-10 | New entry. Ongoing, mutual, life-sustaining union with Christ; plain verb under-signals intimacy without teaching support. |
H. Witness, Scripture, and Signs
| Term (Greek) | Transliteration | Azerbaijani Rendering | Risk | Key References | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| σημεῖον (sēmeion) | say-MAY-on | əlamət / işarə | Medium | 2:11, 4:54, 6:14, 9:16, 20:30 | New entry. Distinguish from möcüzə (generic miracle) and especially kəramət (already rejected in baseline for “spiritual gifts” — Shia/Sufi saint’s miraculous endowment). |
| μαρτυρία / μαρτυρέω (martyria/martyreō) | mar-tee-REE-ah / mar-tee-REH-oh | şahidlik / şahidlik etmək | Medium | 1:7-8, 1:19-34, 3:11, 5:31-39, 21:24 | New entry. Prefer şahidlik over şəhadət, which carries Islamic martyrdom/creedal-confession overtones. |
| γραφή (graphē) | grah-FAY | Müqəddəs Yazı | High | 5:39, 5:46 | New entry. Ties to baseline’s “Inspiration of Scripture” doctrine; asserts unified OT witness converging on Christ. |
| ὥρα (hōra) | HOH-rah | vaxt / saat | Medium | 2:4, 7:30, 12:23, 13:1, 17:1 | New entry. Recurring divine-timing motif across the whole Gospel; lexically ordinary but theologically load-bearing. |

Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: Salehlik
Transliteration: sah-lehk-LEEK
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: saleh əməllər (righteous deeds, as the ground itself)
Inherited from Romans package. John 16:8,10 uses this term for Christ’s own vindicated righteous standing before the world (a related but distinct nuance from Romans’ imputed-righteousness sense); both meanings remain unified under Salehlik with contextual teaching notes.
Salvation
Approved rendering: Xilas
Transliteration: khee-LAHS
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: nicat (Persian-influenced, Imamate-intercession framing), cənnətə girmək (entering paradise)
Inherited from Romans package. Root of the John-specific verb saved_sozo and title-noun savior_of_the_world below (John 3:17; 4:42; 5:34; 10:9; 12:47). Never a deferred outcome tied to nicat/Imamate-intercession framing.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Diriliş
Transliteration: dee-ree-LEESH
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: göyə qaldırılma (no-death ascension)
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Anchors John’s fifth ‘I Am’ statement (i_am_resurrection_and_life below, John 11:25) and the whole of chapter 20; the noun Diriliş must appear unparaphrased at 11:25 for cross-document consistency.
Lord
Approved rendering: Rəbb
Transliteration: RAHBB
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ağa (master, non-divine)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Combines with Allah in Thomas’s confession (thomas_confession below, John 20:28), John’s parallel to Romans 10:9’s İsa Rəbdir.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın Oğlu
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN oh-loo
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Allahın sevimli qulu (God’s beloved servant)
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs throughout John (1:34; 3:16-18; 5:25; 9:35; 10:36; 11:4; 19:7; 20:31); always paired with the John-specific qualifier yeganə (only_begotten_monogenes below) at 1:14,18; 3:16,18.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: Bədən alma
Transliteration: bah-DAN ahl-MAH
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: Allahın insan qiyafəsinə girməsi (disguise)
Inherited from Romans package. Definitional source for John 1:14 (ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο, ‘the Word became flesh’); pairs directly with the new word_logos entry below.
Messiah
Approved rendering: Məsih
Transliteration: mah-SEEKH
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: sadəcə bir peyğəmbər (merely a prophet)
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at John 1:20,41; 4:25-29; 7:26-42; 20:31; always paired with İsa (İsa Məsih) in doctrinally significant contexts, never bare.
Intercession
Approved rendering: Vasitəçilik
Transliteration: vah-see-tah-chee-LEEK
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Rejected alternatives: şəfaət (Shia Imamate intercession), təvəssül (saint-mediated access to God)
Inherited from Romans package. The same şəfaət/təvəssül prohibition extends to the John-specific paraclete entry below; the Holy Spirit’s counseling ministry must never be assimilated to Imamate intercession any more than Christ’s own intercession may.
Jesus
Approved rendering: İsa
Transliteration: ee-SAH
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘İsa Peyğəmbər’ (Prophet Jesus, without Məsih)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Always paired with Məsih in doctrinally significant John references (never bare İsa), including the Gospel’s own purpose statement at 20:31.
God
Approved rendering: Allah

Doctrine: Forgiveness of Sins as Delegated Authority
Original: ἀφίημι ἁμαρτίας

Medium Risk Terms
Peace
Approved rendering: Sülh
Transliteration: SYULKH
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: rahatlıq (inner calm/comfort)
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. John 14:27; 16:33; 20:19-26 use Sülh for Christ’s own personal, parting gift, a related but distinct nuance from Romans 5:1’s peace-through-justification; both remain unified under this single term.
Church
Approved rendering: Kilsə
Transliteration: keel-SAY
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: məscid-vari icma (mosque-like religious community)
Inherited from Romans package. Relevant background for John 17:11,21-23’s unity-of-believers doctrine (believers_oneness below), guarding against a mosque-modeled institutional-merger reading.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Allahın Padşahlığı
Transliteration: ahl-lah-HUHN pahd-shah-luh-UH
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: Allahın dövləti (God’s state/nation)
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Central to John 3:3,5 (core passage) and reinforced at John 18:36 (‘my kingdom is not of this world’), which further guards against dövlət-style political-state associations.
