Cross-Reference Analysis — Hebrews (Complete Book) — English → Hungarian
Methodology and Citation Convention
This matrix catalogs every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, and every typological pattern in Hebrews 1–13, together with parallels to the Romans curriculum already delivered in this Language Package. Coverage proceeds chapter by chapter, first to last; no chapter is silently omitted.
Citation format for this analysis artifact: citations are given in normalizable English-book-name form (e.g., “Genesis 15:6,” “Habakkuk 2:4,” “Romans 1:17”) so that cross-referencing tooling can match passages across curricula unambiguously. This differs deliberately from the Hungarian liturgical citation convention (e.g., “Róma 3:23,” “1 Mózes 15:6”) mandated for the final translated Phase 2 output by 12_ai_translation_requirements.md. Phase 2 rendering must convert every citation in this matrix to the Károli-tradition Hungarian book-name convention at the point of translation; this document is the analytical source, not the delivered text.
Connection type key:
Quotation — the author of Hebrews directly quotes the OT text (typically from the LXX).
Allusion — a clear but non-verbatim reference to an OT event, figure, or text.
Typology — an OT person, office, place, or ritual presented as a divinely-intended foreshadowing pattern fulfilled in Christ or the new covenant.
Messianic — a reference bearing directly on the identity, office, or work of the Messiah.
Translation sensitivity uses the baseline’s Critical/High/Medium/Low tiers, cross-referencing risk tiers already assigned in 07_semantic_analysis.md and 08_core_glossary.md.

Abraham, Sarah
Allusion / Typology
Romans 4:1-25 quotes Genesis 15:6 directly (“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”) — the baseline’s Critical imputed_righteousness term rests on this same Genesis text
Critical — although Hebrews 11 does not quote Genesis 15:6 verbatim, it treats the same Abraham-faith narrative that grounds Romans 4; teaching notes must make this connection explicit so learners see the two books’ shared witness to justification/faith without conflating Hebrews’ hall-of-faith rhetorical purpose with Romans’ forensic-justification argument

Allusion / Typology
Romans 4:17 (“God who gives life to the dead”) — shared resurrection-faith motif tied to Abraham

Genesis 27:27-29,39-40
Isaac’s blessing of Jacob and Esau
Isaac, Jacob, Esau

Critical — direct cross-curriculum character link to Romans 9’s election argument; Hebrews’ pastoral warning (Esau’s irrevocable loss) and Romans’ doctrinal argument (God’s sovereign choice of Jacob) concern the same two men but make different points — theologian review required to keep both arguments distinct and non-contradictory in teaching material
Medium — hálaadás; reframes sacrificial vocabulary as non-cultic

Isaiah 63:11 (Moses as shepherd, background); Ezekiel 37:26 (“everlasting covenant”)
God who brought up “the great Shepherd of the sheep… by the blood of the eternal covenant”

Allusion / Typology / Messianic
Romans 15:33/16:20 (benedictory “God of peace” formula) — structural parallel; also the doctrinal culmination of Romans’ and Hebrews’ shared covenant/blood vocabulary
Critical — the epistle’s climactic phrase; combines covenant, blood, and once-for-all doctrines simultaneously
The following Old Testament citations occur — verbatim or in close doctrinal parallel — in both the Romans and Hebrews curricula within this Language Package. Their Hungarian rendering must be identical across both curricula’s translated materials, per the baseline’s “Theological Consistency Rules Across Documents.”
Habakkuk 2:4 — “the righteous shall live by faith”
Occurs in Romans 1:17 (the curriculum’s thesis-statement verse, already fixed under the Theological Consistency Rules Across Documents in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md) and in Hebrews 10:37-38. Rule: the Hungarian clause rendering “az igaz ember hitből fog élni” (or the established Károli-tradition equivalent already fixed for Romans 1:17) must be reproduced verbatim in Hebrews 10:38. This is the single highest-priority cross-curriculum consistency case in the whole Hebrews Language Package. Flag every occurrence for theologian review in both curricula.
Deuteronomy 32:35-36 — “Vengeance is mine, I will repay”
Occurs in Romans 12:19 and Hebrews 10:30. Rule: render identically in both curricula; both contexts concern divine, not human, retribution and must preserve the same restraining pastoral force.
Genesis 15:6 / the Abraham-faith narrative (Genesis 12–22)
Romans 4 quotes Genesis 15:6 directly to ground imputed_righteousness (baseline Critical term, beszámított igazság); Hebrews 11:8-19 narrates the same Abraham without quoting 15:6 verbatim. Rule: teaching material for Hebrews 11 must cross-reference the Romans 4 treatment explicitly, using the identical Hungarian rendering of “hit,” “igazság,” and “beszámított igazság” wherever Hebrews 11’s Abraham material touches justification themes, while preserving Hebrews’ own distinct rhetorical purpose (endurance/example, not forensic argument).
Genesis 25–27 / the Jacob-and-Esau narrative
Romans 9:10-13 (citing Malachi 1:2-3) uses Jacob/Esau to argue God’s sovereign election; Hebrews 11:20 and 12:16-17 use the same two men very differently (blessing transmission; irrevocable loss of birthright as an apostasy warning). Rule: do not harmonize these two distinct argumentative uses into a single systematic statement within the translated text; each curriculum’s own argument must stand on its own terms, with a teaching note in both curricula pointing to the other’s treatment of the same family for advanced study.
Psalm 2:7 — “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”
Occurs at Hebrews 1:5 and 5:5 (repeated within Hebrews) and functions as the same Sonship-declaration category as Romans 1:4’s “declared to be the Son of God… by his resurrection.” Rule: while Romans 1:4 and Psalm 2:7 are not verbally identical, both ground the doctrine “Sonship of Christ” / “Deity of Christ” and must use the baseline’s exact Isten Fia rendering without variation.
Psalm 110:1 and 110:4
Psalm 110:1 (“sit at my right hand”) appears in Hebrews 1:13 and 12:2, and underlies Romans 8:34’s intercession language; Psalm 110:4 (“a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek”) appears in Hebrews 5:6, 5:10, 6:20, 7:17, and 7:21. Rule: render Psalm 110:1’s throne-imagery identically at every Hebrews occurrence and consistently with Romans 8:34’s phrasing; render Psalm 110:4 identically at all five Hebrews occurrences, since this single verse is the entire scriptural foundation for the Melchizedekian high-priesthood argument central to this curriculum’s doctrine “Christ as the Great High Priest.”

No chapter of Hebrews was found to contain zero Old Testament quotation, allusion, or typological reference; the epistle’s argument is continuously anchored in the Hebrew Scriptures from 1:1 through 13:20. Every chapter is therefore explicitly documented above.
This document must be read alongside 07_semantic_analysis.md and 08_core_glossary.md. Phase 2 translation of any Hebrews segment containing an OT quotation shared with the Romans curriculum (see Shared-Quotation Rendering-Consistency Rules above) must load both curricula’s segment caches to verify verbatim consistency before finalizing the Hungarian rendering.
