Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Core Glossary

Core Glossary — 1 John (English–Somali)

Curriculum: 1 John Language pair: English–Somali Governing authority: Baseline Romans translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json. Terms already fixed there are reused exactly (marked “Baseline reuse” in the Notes column) and their established risk tier is respected unless this curriculum’s usage context warrants an explicit elevation, which is noted. New terms required for 1 John follow the same risk framework (Critical / High / Medium / Low) and script/register conventions.

How to read this table

  • Somali rendering: the required, fixed rendering for Phase 2 translation.
  • Risk: doctrine-mistranslation risk tier, per baseline definitions (Critical/High = human theologian review; Medium = native speaker review; Low = automated review).
  • Doctrine category: mapped to this curriculum’s eight core doctrines: (1) God is Light and God is Love; (2) Fellowship with God and One Another; (3) Confession and Forgiveness of Sin; (4) Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth; (5) The Incarnation and Antichrist; (6) Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life; (7) Overcoming the World; (8) Testing the Spirits.
  • Chapters: every chapter in which the term is load-bearing.

Cross-References to Baseline Romans Package

The following 1 John terms are direct reuses of baseline Romans translation_memory.json entries and must not deviate: Ilaah (God), Ciise (Jesus), Masiixa (Christ/Messiah), Aabbe (Father), Ruuxa Quduuska ah (Holy Spirit), Wiilka Ilaah (Son of God), Jidh qaadasho (Incarnation), Wadaaga (Fellowship), Xaqnimo (Righteousness), Dembi (Sin), Iimaan (Faith), Quduus (root of “Holy One”), Nabi (root of “false prophets”).

The following 1 John terms extend a baseline root into a new but consistent compound: Dhexdhexaadiyaha (Advocate, from Dhexdhexaadinta/Intercession), Badbaadiyaha (Savior, from Badbaado/Salvation), Carruurta Ilaah (Children of God, from Sheegasho carruurnimo/Adoption).

All remaining terms above are newly established for the 1 John Language Package and must be entered into an updated translation_memory.json (version increment) before Phase 2 translation begins, per the baseline’s term-registration procedure.

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: Ilaah
Transliteration: ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ / God is Light and God is Love
Rejected alternatives: Eebe (colloquial invocation-style term, not settled Bible-translation register), Alle (direct Arabic loan)
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Governs every occurrence throughout 1 John’s identity statements (‘God is light,’ ‘God is love’). Do not alter.

Jesus

Approved rendering: Ciise
Transliteration: SEE-say
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ / Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Nabi Ciise’ (Prophet Jesus, without Masiixa)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Must always be paired with Masiixa (Ciise Masiixa) in doctrinally significant references, especially the confession and antichrist-test passages (2:22; 4:2-3; 5:1).

Messiah

Approved rendering: Masiixa
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Messianic Promise / Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nabi kaliya (merely a prophet)
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. 1 John 2:22 and 4:2-3 make confessing/denying this identity the letter’s central doctrinal test; must carry full Davidic/atoning content, not merely ‘a prophet.‘

Father

Approved rendering: Aabbe
Transliteration: AH-beh
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family / New Birth (Born of God)
Rejected alternatives: Abuure (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. 1 John intensifies the tawhid tension by pairing Aabbe with birth/begetting language (‘born of God’) throughout chs. 2-5, not only adoption language.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Sanctification / Testing the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Must never be equated with Jibriil nor with the folk-Islamic jinniyo/saar spirit-world category invoked by ‘testing the spirits’ (4:1-6).

Son Of God

Approved rendering: Wiilka Ilaah
Transliteration: WEEL-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: addoonka jecel ee Ilaah (God’s beloved servant)
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. The confession that Ciise is Wiilka Ilaah is 1 John’s salvation-marking declaration (4:15), parallel to Rooma 10:9. Never softened to servant/prophet euphemism.

Incarnation

Approved rendering: Jidh qaadasho
Transliteration: JID kah-dah-SHOH
Doctrine: The Incarnation (Christ Come in the Flesh)
Rejected alternatives: Ilaah oo u ekaaday nin (God merely appearing to look like a man)
Original: ἐν σαρκὶ ἐληλυθότα
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package exactly. In 1 John this also functions as the diagnostic test for true versus false teaching (4:2-3, ‘Qirtaa in Ciise Masiixa jidh soo qaatay’); never soften to disguise/appearance language.

Righteousness

Approved rendering: Xaqnimo
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh
Doctrine: New Birth (Born of God)
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (good deeds, as the ground itself)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package exactly. In 1 John (2:29; 3:7,10) practiced righteousness is the evidentiary fruit of new birth, never its ground; guard against reintroducing the works-ledger framework.

Salvation

Approved rendering: Badbaado
Transliteration: bahd-BAH-doh
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: jannada gelid (entering paradise, as the whole content)

Inherited from Romans package. Root of 1 John’s ‘Badbaadiyaha’ (Savior, 4:14). Must retain the present-reality, already-secured sense rather than deferred judgment-day hope.

Only Begotten Son

Approved rendering: Wiilkiisa Keliya
Transliteration: WEEL-kee-sah keh-LEE-yah
Doctrine: Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Wiilkiisa jecel (his beloved Son, softened), keli u dhashay (loosely ‘his only birth,’ ambiguous)
Original: μονογενής
Category: Christology

1 John 4:9. Extends baseline Wiilka Ilaah. Direct, intensified collision with Qur’an 112:3 (‘He neither begets nor is begotten’) because monogenēs explicitly excludes any other being from this relation; must never be softened toward ‘beloved Son’ in the translation itself. Route: human theologian, every occurrence.

Antichrist

Approved rendering: Diidka Masiixa
Transliteration: DEED-kah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Antichrist
Rejected alternatives: Dajjaalka (direct transliteration/borrowing of Islamic Dajjal, wrongly implying full equivalence)
Original: ἀντίχριστος
Category: Christology

1 John 2:18-23; 4:3. Close parallel to al-Masih ad-Dajjal but broader in scope: present, plural, already-active category of false teachers, not a single future apocalyptic figure. Must be explicitly distinguished from Dajjal in teaching, never merely equated.

Spirit Of Antichrist

Approved rendering: Ruuxa Diidka Masiixa
Transliteration: ROO-khah DEED-kah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Antichrist
Original: τὸ τοῦ ἀντιχρίστου
Category: Christology

1 John 4:3. Extends Diidka Masiixa. Names the teaching-movement/influence category, already active at the time of writing, kept lexically distinct from any single named figure.

Born Of God

Approved rendering: Ka dhashay Ilaah
Transliteration: kah DHAH-shay ee-LAHH
Doctrine: New Birth (Born of God)
Rejected alternatives: Ilaah baa carruur dhalay (God has literally begotten children, an unacceptable literal-offspring reading)
Original: γεννάω (ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ)
Category: Salvation

1 John 2:29; 3:9-10; 4:7; 5:1,4,18. The letter’s dominant new-birth metaphor. Direct tawhid-sensitive collision (Qur’an 112:3); must be taught as spiritual regeneration/new nature, categorically distinct from Christ’s unique monogenēs Sonship and from literal genealogical claims. Route: human theologian, every occurrence.

God Is Love

Approved rendering: Ilaah waa Jacayl
Transliteration: ee-LAHH wah jah-CAYL
Doctrine: God is Love
Rejected alternatives: Ilaah aad buu wax u jecel yahay (God loves things very much — an attribute-statement that loses the ontological identity claim)
Original: ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν
Category: God

1 John 4:8, 16. A predicate-nominative identity statement about God’s essential nature, not a description of an action. Must never be flattened to an attributive ‘God loves greatly.’ Foundational to the entire core passage (4:7-21).

God Is Light

Approved rendering: Ilaah waa Iftiin
Transliteration: ee-LAHH wah if-TEEN
Doctrine: God is Light
Rejected alternatives: Ilaah waa Nuur (rejected — see ‘light’ entry)
Original: ὁ θεὸς φῶς ἐστιν
Category: God

1 John 1:5. Paired identity-statement with Ilaah waa Jacayl (4:8,16). Same predicate-nominative ontological force must be preserved.

Light

Approved rendering: Iftiinka
Transliteration: if-TEEN-kah
Doctrine: God is Light / Walking in Light versus Darkness
Rejected alternatives: Nuurka (carries strong Sufi association with Nuurka Muxammed, the pre-existent light of Muhammad)
Original: φῶς
Category: God

1 John 1:5, 7; 2:8-11. Deliberately avoids Nuurka for the same reason baseline rejected nuur for ‘glory’ — it would import a competing pre-existence/glory claim into God’s own self-description. Iftiinka preserves the light-metaphor without that collision.

Love

Approved rendering: Jacayl
Transliteration: jah-CAYL
Doctrine: God is Love / Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Rejected alternatives: kalgacal (affection, weaker/familial register), naxariis (mercy/compassion — a different, deeds-mercy category)
Original: ἀγάπη / ἀγαπάω
Category: Love

The letter’s central term (4:7-21; 3:16-18, etc.). Jacayl in everyday Somali usage often carries romantic connotation (heesaha jacaylka, love-song register); every doctrinal use must be anchored by context to the willed, self-giving, God-originated sense, never left to default to the romantic register.

Propitiation

Approved rendering: Allabariga Dembidhaafka
Transliteration: ah-lah-bah-REE-gah dem-bee-DHAHF-kah
Doctrine: Propitiation and Atonement
Rejected alternatives: qurbaan (a commemorative, non-atoning sacrificial offering associated with Eid practice), hadiyad la bixiyay (a gift offered, too weak for wrath-satisfying substitution)
Original: ἱλασμός
Category: Salvation

1 John 2:2; 4:10. Must not collapse into a devotional offering resembling Eid qurbaan; must convey a once-for-all, wrath-satisfying substitution accomplished by Christ alone, explicitly universal in scope (2:2). Route: human theologian, every occurrence.

Eternal Life

Approved rendering: Nolosha Weligga ah
Transliteration: noh-LOH-shah weh-LEEG-gah ah
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: rajo jannada gelid (hope of entering paradise — a deferred, probabilistic rendering)
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology

1 John 5:11-13, 20. The letter’s climactic assurance claim (‘that you may know that you have eternal life,’ 5:13). Must be rendered as a present, knowable possession, categorically different from deferred judgment-day hope. Route: human theologian, every occurrence.

Spirits Testing

Approved rendering: Ruuxyada
Transliteration: ROOKH-yah-dah
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: jinniyo-adjacent framing (would collapse the doctrinal test into folk exorcism/possession categories)
Original: τὰ πνεύματα
Category: Spiritual Discernment

1 John 4:1-6. High collision risk with the Somali folk-Islamic jinniyo/saar spirit-possession framework. Every occurrence must be anchored in the same sentence or adjacent clause to the stated Christological test (does the teaching confess Ciise Masiixa oo jidh qaadaystay?), never left as a free-standing spiritual category. Route: human theologian, every occurrence.

Holy One

Approved rendering: Kan Quduuska ah
Transliteration: kahn koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Original: ὁ ἅγιος
Category: Christology

1 John 2:20. A title for Christ as uniquely set apart in holiness, source of believers’ anointing. Reinforces Christ’s unique divine status already Critical in baseline.

High Risk Terms

Fellowship

Approved rendering: Wadaaga
Transliteration: wah-DAH-gah
Doctrine: Fellowship with God and One Another
Rejected alternatives: walaaltinimo (brotherhood, often specifically clan-brotherhood)
Original: κοινωνία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package (baseline risk: Low). RISK ELEVATED TO HIGH for this curriculum because fellowship is 1 John’s stated purpose (1:3) and structurally central to the whole letter, not a peripheral mention as in Romans.

Sin

Approved rendering: Dembi
Transliteration: DEM-bee
Doctrine: Confession and Forgiveness of Sin
Rejected alternatives: qalad (mistake/error)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package exactly. Islamic anthropology (fitrah) resists the letter’s insistence that even believers must continually confess sin; teach as an ongoing, not merely past, reality (1:8, 10).

Faith

Approved rendering: Iimaan
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Overcoming the World
Rejected alternatives: rumaysad (generic belief/conviction)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package exactly. 1 John 5:4-5 names faith itself, not works or ritual, as the instrument of victory over the world; the object of faith (Christ) must remain explicit.

Holy

Approved rendering: Quduus
Transliteration: koo-DOOS
Doctrine: Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nadiif (ritually/physically clean)

Inherited from Romans package. Root of the 1 John 2:20 title ‘Kan Quduuska ah’ (the Holy One), a Christological title, not merely a general holiness adjective.

Prophet

Approved rendering: Nabi
Transliteration: NAH-bee
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: faaliye (fortune-teller/diviner)

Inherited from Romans package. Root of 1 John’s ‘Nabiyada Beenta ah’ (false prophets, 4:1). Care needed since Nabi is precisely the category Islamic theology reserves for true prophets; ‘false’ must be unambiguous.

Intercession

Approved rendering: Dhexdhexaadinta
Transliteration: dheh-dheh-KHAH-din-tah
Doctrine: Advocate and Intercession of Christ
Rejected alternatives: shafeeco (intercession sought through a Sufi sheekh or wali)

Inherited from Romans package. Root of 1 John’s ‘Dhexdhexaadiyaha’ (Advocate, 2:1). Christ’s advocacy must remain unique and sufficient, never assimilated to shafeeco.

Adoption

Approved rendering: Sheegasho carruurnimo
Transliteration: sheh-eh-GAH-shoh car-oor-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Children of God versus Children of the Devil
Rejected alternatives: sheegad kaliya (bare clan-incorporation term, without full-inheritance qualifier)

Inherited from Romans package. 1 John’s ‘Carruurta Ilaah’ (Children of God) is a complementary birth-metaphor built alongside, not instead of, this legal-adoption doctrine.

Law

Approved rendering: Qaanuunka Muuse
Transliteration: kah-noon-kah MOO-say
Doctrine: Obedience to the Commandment of Love
Rejected alternatives: Sharciga (the same word used for Islamic religious law/Sharia)

Inherited from Romans package. Kept explicitly distinct from 1 John’s ‘Amarka’ (commandment, esp. 2:3-11) to avoid re-importing the sharci/Sharia collision this term was coined to avoid.

Perfect Love

Approved rendering: Jacaylka Dhan/Kaamilka ah
Transliteration: jah-CAYL-kah DAHN / kah-MEEL-kah ah
Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Rejected alternatives: jacayl aan qalad lahayn (love without any flaw — implies sinless human performance)
Original: ἡ τελεία ἀγάπη
Category: Love

1 John 4:17-18. Love that has reached its intended maturity through abiding in God, not flawless human moral performance. Must not be read as achieved sinlessness.

Blood Of Jesus

Approved rendering: Dhiigga Ciise Masiixa
Transliteration: DHEEG-gah SEE-say mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Forgiveness and Cleansing of Sin
Original: αἷμα (Ἰησοῦ)
Category: Salvation

1 John 1:7; 5:6-8. Must be taught with atoning force, not merely as a historical crucifixion detail; connects to propitiation and to the water-and-blood testimony triad.

Forgiveness

Approved rendering: Cafis
Transliteration: cah-FEES
Doctrine: Forgiveness and Cleansing of Sin
Original: ἀφίημι / ἄφεσις
Category: Salvation

1 John 1:9. Must never appear as a stand-alone concept detached from confession, cleansing, and Christ’s blood within the same teaching unit; distinguish from the Islamic tawbah mechanism, which grounds pardon on repentance directly rather than an atoning substitute.

Cleanse

Approved rendering: Nadiifiyo
Transliteration: nah-DEE-fee-yoh
Doctrine: Forgiveness and Cleansing of Sin
Rejected alternatives: wadaraysi-style washing terms (ritual ablution before prayer)
Original: καθαρίζω
Category: Sanctification

1 John 1:7, 9. Must be clearly distinguished from ritual ablution (wadaraysi) performed before Islamic prayer; this is a divine act of inward moral cleansing accomplished by Christ’s blood, not a self-performed external rite.

Confess Sin

Approved rendering: Qirasho/qirid
Transliteration: kee-RAH-shoh / kee-RID
Doctrine: Confession and Forgiveness of Sin
Original: ὁμολογέω (τὰς ἁμαρτίας)
Category: Faith

1 John 1:9. Shares its Somali verb root with confess_christ (4:15); the object of confession (dembiyada, ‘the sins’) must always be stated explicitly in the same clause. Must not resemble the Islamic shahada declaration format.

Confess Christ

Approved rendering: Qirasho/qirid
Transliteration: kee-RAH-shoh / kee-RID
Doctrine: Deity and Unique Sonship of Christ
Original: ὁμολογήσῃ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Christology

1 John 2:23; 4:2-3, 15. Same Somali verb root as confess_sin; the object confessed here (in Ciise yahay Wiilka Ilaah / jidh qaadasho) must always be stated explicitly to avoid conflating a salvation-marking Christological confession with ordinary confession of sin.

Advocate

Approved rendering: Dhexdhexaadiyaha
Transliteration: dheh-dheh-khah-DEE-yah-hah
Doctrine: Advocate and Intercession of Christ
Rejected alternatives: shafeeco-based rendering (contested Sufi saint/tomb intercession practice)
Original: παράκλητος
Category: Salvation

1 John 2:1. Extends baseline Dhexdhexaadinta. Christ’s present advocacy with the Father must remain unique and sufficient, never assimilated to shafeeco, given the live internal Somali Sufi/Salafi debate over that practice.

Transliteration: bahd-bah-DEE-yah-hah
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Salvation

Transliteration: kahl-SOH-nee-dah / dheer-rah-NAHN-tah
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life / Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Original: παρρησία
Category: Eschatology

1 John 3:21; 4:17; 5:14. Connects to baseline Critical doctrine assurance_of_salvation. Present-tense confidence grounded in Christ’s finished work, not softened hopefulness.

False Prophets

Approved rendering: Nabiyada Beenta ah
Transliteration: nah-bee-YAH-dah BEHN-tah ah
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Original: ψευδοπροφῆται
Category: Spiritual Discernment

1 John 4:1. Extends baseline Nabi. Care needed since Nabi is precisely the category Islamic theology reserves for true prophets; ‘false’ (Beenta ah) must be unambiguous so as not to imply doubt about the prophetic category itself.

Anointing

Approved rendering: Subkidda
Transliteration: soob-KID-dah
Doctrine: Anointing of the Holy Spirit
Rejected alternatives: barako (blessing transmitted through a Sufi sheekh’s lineage or touch), karaamad (a sheekh’s personal miraculous endowment)
Original: χρῖσμα
Category: Sanctification

Original: τέκνα θεοῦ
Category: Salvation

Seed Of God

Approved rendering: Abuurka Ilaah
Transliteration: ah-BOOR-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Children of God versus Children of the Devil
Rejected alternatives: farcanka Ilaah (would too strongly evoke literal genealogical lineage, as in farcanka Daa’uud)
Original: σπέρμα (αὐτοῦ)
Category: Salvation

1 John 3:9. Risk of confusion with literal biological/lineage seed language, which carries unusually heavy weight in Somali genealogical culture (abtirsiimo); must be taught as a spiritual metaphor for the divine nature/life implanted in the believer, not a claim about physical descent.

Brother

Approved rendering: Walaalka (Ku-Masiix ah)
Transliteration: wah-LAHL-kah koo-mah-SEEKH ah
Doctrine: Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Rejected alternatives: bare walaal (unqualified — risks importing clan-brotherhood/walaaltinimo obligations, or being read as mere polite address without doctrinal weight)
Original: ἀδελφός
Category: Church

1 John 2:9-11; 3:10-17; 4:20-21. High collision risk with walaaltinimo, the Somali clan-brotherhood concept bounding belonging by blood/qabiil lines. Must be explicitly taught as cross-clan, faith-based kinship, open across all clan lines, without clan-style mutual-protection obligations.

Transliteration: wah lah moo-JEE-yay
Doctrine: The Incarnation (Christ Come in the Flesh) / God is Love
Rejected alternatives: waa la tusay (generic ‘was shown,’ too weak)
Original: φανερόω
Category: Christology

1 John 1:2; 3:5, 8; 4:9. Disclosure in observable, historical form of what was previously hidden; must not be flattened to a generic ‘was shown.‘

Abide

Approved rendering: Sii jiraa/ku sii jira
Transliteration: see jee-RAH / koo see JEE-rah
Doctrine: Fellowship with God and One Another
Rejected alternatives: booqasho (a temporary visit — too weak for settled indwelling)
Original: μένω
Category: Church

1 John 2:6, 24, 27-28; 3:6, 24; 4:12-16. Ongoing, settled mutual indwelling, not episodic religious feeling. Connects to baseline High doctrine christian_identity_in_christ.

Transliteration: kah ahd-KAH-day / GOO-shah
Doctrine: Overcoming the World
Original: νικάω
Category: Sanctification

1 John 2:13-14; 4:4; 5:4-5. Real victory in conflict, achieved through faith (5:4-5), not works/ritual observance — parallel to baseline’s grace-not-works logic. Must always be co-located with Iimaan in 5:4-5 material to block a merit-based reading.

Lawlessness

Approved rendering: Caasinimada
Transliteration: kah-see-NEE-mah-dah
Doctrine: Confession and Forgiveness of Sin
Rejected alternatives: sharci-root compounds (would re-import the Sharia-collision risk already documented in baseline for ‘law’)
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin

1 John 3:4. Sin defined as rebellion against God’s revealed will, deliberately kept away from the sharci root.

Sin Unto Death

Doctrine: Sin unto Death
Original: ἁμαρτία πρὸς θάνατον

Transliteration: good-COOR-kah
Doctrine: Walking in Light versus Darkness
Original: σκοτία
Category: Sin

1 John 1:5-6; 2:8-11. Antonym of Iftiinka. Lower risk since no competing Sufi association attaches to darkness itself; walking in darkness = living in unconfessed sin.

Transliteration: KAHB-see-dah
Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Original: φόβος
Category: Sanctification

1 John 4:18. Dread of punishment displaced by mature love; must be distinguished in teaching from reverent ‘fear of God’ (respectful awe), a different theological register.

Transliteration: kee-KAHB-tah
Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Original: κόλασις
Category: Eschatology

Transliteration: MAH-rahg / mah-rahg foo-RID
Doctrine: Testimony of the Spirit, Water, and Blood
Rejected alternatives: shahaadah-adjacent framing (Islamic creedal testimony formula)
Original: μαρτυρία / μαρτυρέω
Category: Faith

1 John 1:2; 4:14; 5:6-11. Marag is the ordinary Somali legal-witness term, distinct from the Arabic-loan shahaadah, lowering but not eliminating collision risk; the unusual triad imagery still requires explicit teaching support.

Commandment

Approved rendering: Amarka
Transliteration: ah-MAHR-kah
Doctrine: Obedience to the Commandment of Love
Original: ἐντολή
Category: Covenant

1 John 2:3-11; 3:22-24; 4:21; 5:2-3. A specific relational directive from Christ (love the brethren), kept deliberately distinct from baseline Qaanuunka Muuse to avoid re-importing the sharci/Sharia collision risk.

Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Original: τελειόω
Category: Sanctification

Idols

Approved rendering: Sanamyada
Transliteration: sah-nahm-YAH-dah
Doctrine: Warning Against Idolatry
Original: εἴδωλα
Category: Sin

1 John 5:21. Genuine resonance with shared Islamic aniconism, but must be taught with an expanded sense (functional idols — clan loyalty, wealth, status), not literal statues alone, which are rare in the Somali cultural context.
