Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Ephesians | English → Somali
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md across the whole of Ephesians (chapters 1–6), plus the core passage (Ephesians 2:1-10). Terms marked [BASELINE] are fixed by the Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json and MUST be reused exactly, with no deviation. Terms marked [NEW] are proposed additions for this curriculum, pending Phase 1 Step 2 formal entry into the extended translation memory.
Risk tiers match the baseline convention: Critical = human theologian review mandatory, every occurrence; High = human theologian review required; Medium = native speaker review recommended; Low = automated review sufficient.

Critical Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: Ilaah
Transliteration: ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity and Cosmic Supremacy of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Eebe (warmly familiar, invocation-style, colloquial rather than settled Bible-translation register), Alle (direct Arabic loan)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Ilaah is the pre-Islamic Cushitic-root Somali word for God, the settled term used across Somali Bible translation. Used throughout Ephesians (1:1-3, 3:9, 4:6, 6:23, etc.).
Father
Approved rendering: Aabbe
Transliteration: AH-beh
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: Abuure (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:2-3, 3:14-15, 4:6, 6:23 all use Aabbe for God the Father. Note: the Greek patēr/patria wordplay at 3:14-15 (Father→every family) does not carry over into Somali Aabbe/Qoys; flag as a translation-craft note for lesson writers, not a doctrinal deviation.
Jesus
Approved rendering: Ciise
Transliteration: SEE-say
Doctrine: Deity and Cosmic Supremacy of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Nabi Ciise’ (Prophet Jesus, without Masiixa)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Always paired with Masiixa (Ciise Masiixa) in doctrinally significant references throughout Ephesians (1:1, 1:15, 6:23), never used bare.
Messiah
Approved rendering: Masiixa
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Deity and Cosmic Supremacy of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nabi kaliya (merely a prophet)
Inherited from Romans package. The central organizing title of Ephesians, used roughly 46 times; every occurrence must carry the full Davidic-covenant, atoning-savior content the Qur’an strips from al-Masih.
Lord
Approved rendering: Rabbiga
Transliteration: RAHB-bee-gah
Doctrine: Deity and Cosmic Supremacy of Christ
Rejected alternatives: sayidka (master/boss, non-divine)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:2-3, 4:1,5, 5:20, 6:24. Never Sayidka for these divine-Lord references; Sayidka is reserved exclusively for the human ‘masters’ of 6:5-9, requiring explicit flagging in every household-code segment to prevent confusion.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Sanctification and the Spirit’s Personal Indwelling
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:13-14,17; 2:18,22; 3:16; 4:3-4,30; 5:18; 6:17-18. Never Jibriil. 4:30 (grieve) and 5:18 (filled) require explicit personal-Being teaching support, given the added saar spirit-possession collision risk at 5:18.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Wiilka Ilaah
Transliteration: WEEL-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity and Cosmic Supremacy of Christ
Rejected alternatives: addoonka jecel ee Ilaah (God’s beloved servant)
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 4:13 (‘the fullness of … the Son of God’).
Salvation
Approved rendering: Badbaado
Transliteration: bahd-BAH-doh
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Rejected alternatives: jannada gelid (entering paradise, as the whole content)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:13; 2:5,8; 6:17. Never a synonym for hoping to enter jannada; 2:8’s perfect-tense ‘have been saved’ is an especially exposed present-tense claim.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: Xaqnimo
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (good deeds, as the ground itself)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 4:24; 5:9; 6:14 (breastplate of righteousness). At 6:14 martial imagery adds a new risk of righteous deeds being read as literal, earnable protective merit in spiritual battle.
Justification
Approved rendering: Xaq lagu caddeeyay
Transliteration: khahk lah-goo cah-DEH-yay
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: dembiyada la cafiyay (forgiveness of sins, alone)
Original: δικαίωσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians does not use the term directly, but 2:8-10’s grace-faith-not-works sequence presupposes this forensic declaration and must be taught consistently with it.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Sarakicidda
Transliteration: sah-rah-kee-CID-dah
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday (being raised up to heaven, without dying)
Original: ἀνάστασις (implied via ἐγείρω)
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:20; 2:6. Never kor loo qaaday. 2:6’s ‘raised us up with him’ extends this to believers’ present union with Christ’s historical resurrection.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: Jidh qaadasho
Transliteration: JID kah-dah-SHOH
Doctrine: Deity and Cosmic Supremacy of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Ilaah oo u ekaaday nin (God merely appearing to look like a man)
Inherited from Romans package. Retained here to fence the ‘jidh’ root from Ephesians’ distinct uses: Christ’s own incarnate body (this term) must never be confused with the corporate church metaphor (body_of_christ_corporate) or the ethical ‘flesh’ of 2:3 (flesh_ethical).
Mission
Approved rendering: Warka wanaagsan faafinta
Transliteration: WAR-kah wah-NAHG-sahn fah-ah-FIN-tah
Doctrine: Evangelism and the Evangelist Office
Rejected alternatives: wacdinta (preaching/proselytizing, an especially dangerous word given the lethal risk of open evangelism in much of Somalia)
Inherited from Romans package. The approved verb phrase underlying the new Ephesians 4:11 office-noun ‘evangelist’ (Faafiyaha Injiilka); same physical-safety review routing applies.
Works Salvation Ground
Approved rendering: Shuqullada / Camalka
Transliteration: shoo-KOOL-lah-dah
Doctrine: Grace Contrasted with Works
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (identical phrase used one verse later for fruit-works; would blur the v.9 exclusion)
Original: ἔργα
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:9. Must unambiguously exclude deeds — religious or moral — as any ground of salvation. The exact collision the baseline’s righteousness/imputed-righteousness entries were built to guard against.
Good Works Fruit
Approved rendering: Camal wanaagsan
Transliteration: cah-MAHL wah-NAHG-sahn
Doctrine: Grace Contrasted with Works
Rejected alternatives: shuqullada/camalka (v.9’s rejected-ground term; would blur the v.9-to-v.10 sequence)
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:10. Uses the identical Somali phrase rejected as a salvation-ground in v.9, here affirmed as fruit flowing FROM grace already received. Requires a translator/teaching note at every occurrence making the v.9-to-v.10 sequence explicit.
Predestined
Approved rendering: Horudoorasho
Transliteration: hoh-roo-doh-rah-SHOH
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: qaddar (fate/decree), nasiib (luck/fortune)
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election
Ephesians 1:5,11. A genuinely new coinage with no prior Somali Bible-translation precedent; intensifies eklogē (‘election’) beyond the Romans baseline. Extreme collision risk with qaddar/nasiib fatalism. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence; flagged for follow-up native-speaker readability testing before wide deployment.
Evangelist
Approved rendering: Faafiyaha Injiilka
Transliteration: fah-ah-FEE-yah-hah in-JEEL-kah
Doctrine: Evangelism and the Evangelist Office
Rejected alternatives: wacdiye (forbidden per baseline mission entry; acute physical-danger association in Somalia)
Original: εὐαγγελιστής
Category: Church
Ephesians 4:11. Same acute physical-danger ground as the baseline’s Mission/Evangelism doctrine. Never wacdiye; route to human theologian review with mandatory pastoral/physical-safety framing.
Blood Of Christ
Approved rendering: Dhiigga Masiixa
Transliteration: DHEE-gah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: dhiig macnaawi ah oo kaliya (a merely symbolic, non-physical ‘blood’)
Original: αἷμα Χριστοῦ
Category: Unity
Ephesians 2:13. Presupposes a real, physical death, reinforcing the baseline’s Critical resurrection doctrine against Qur’an 4:157’s denial of Christ’s death. Never soften into a merely symbolic reference.
Armor Of God
Approved rendering: Hubka oo dhan ee Ilaah
Transliteration: HOOB-kah oh DHAHN ee ee-LAHH
Doctrine: The Armor of God and Spiritual Combat
Rejected alternatives: any framing that could echo literal armed-struggle rhetoric
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:11,13. Somalia’s decades of real armed conflict and extremist martial rhetoric make this the most physically/socially sensitive image-cluster in the letter. Must be repeatedly and explicitly framed as non-literal, spiritual equipment. Route to human theologian review.
Cosmic Spiritual Powers
Approved rendering: Taliyayaasha, xukumeyaasha, iyo ciidamada ruuxa sharka ah ee samada
Transliteration: tah-lee-yah-YAH-shah
Doctrine: Cosmic Spiritual Powers and the Jinn Collision
Rejected alternatives: jinn (the standard Somali folk-Islamic category, with its own amulet/exorcism apparatus)
Original: ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι, κοσμοκράτορες, πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 1:21; 2:2; 3:10; 6:12. The single highest-collision-risk cluster in the book: Somali cosmology holds a near-universal belief in jinn, complete with amulets (xirsi), Qur’anic exorcism recitation, and wadaad-mediated deliverance. Teaching must affirm real organized spiritual conflict while redirecting engagement toward the armor of God, prayer, and Christ’s finished work. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Breastplate Of Righteousness
Approved rendering: Gaashaanka xaqnimada
Transliteration: gah-SHAHN-kah khahk-nee-MAH-dah
Doctrine: The Armor of God and Spiritual Combat
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan la kasbaday (righteousness as earnable protective merit in battle)
Original: θώραξ τῆς δικαιοσύνης
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:14. Inherits the baseline’s Critical righteousness entry; risk that martial imagery could be misread as righteous deeds functioning as earnable protective merit rather than received forensic status.
Helmet Of Salvation
Approved rendering: Koofiyadda badbaadada
Transliteration: koh-fee-YAHD-dah bahd-BAH-dah-dah
Doctrine: The Armor of God and Spiritual Combat
Rejected alternatives: salvation as something fought for or earned through spiritual combat
Original: περικεφαλαία τοῦ σωτηρίου
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:17. Carries the baseline’s Critical salvation risk into a martial context; must not be read as salvation earned through combat, but as protection already secured by grace.
High Risk Terms

Transliteration: NIM-koh
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: naxariis (mercy/compassion), barako (blessing, tied to a sheekh’s or saint’s spiritual potency)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:6-7; 2:5,7-8; 3:2,7-8; 4:7; 6:24. Ephesians 2:8-9 is the book’s central grace-through-faith thesis and must match any parallel Romans rendering exactly.

Rejected alternatives: faaliye (fortune-teller/diviner)
Original: προφήτης
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 2:20; 3:5; 4:11. Shared with the exclusive Islamic prophetic category Jesus is placed into; when used of the NT prophetic office (4:11), distinguish this ongoing gifted office from the closed OT/Qur’anic prophetic category.

Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: qaddar (fate/decree), nasiib (luck/fortune)

Power Of God
Approved rendering: Awoodda Ilaah
Transliteration: ah-WOHD-dah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: The Armor of God and Spiritual Combat
Rejected alternatives: xoogga Ilaah (raw force, less precise for saving/sustaining power)
Original: δύναμις / κράτος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:19; 3:16,20; 6:10. Distinct from xoog (raw physical force) and qaddar-adjacent folk power language.
Intercession
Approved rendering: Dhexdhexaadinta
Transliteration: dheh-dheh-KHAH-din-tah
Doctrine: Direct, Unmediated Access to God
Rejected alternatives: shafeeco (intercession sought through a Sufi sheekh or wali)
Inherited from Romans package. Retained for teaching contrast with Ephesians 2:18/3:12’s ‘access’ language, which sits on the same contested Sufi/Salafi shafeeco ground.
Flesh Ethical
Approved rendering: Damacyada jidhka
Transliteration: dah-MAHKH-yah-dah JID-kah
Doctrine: Total Spiritual Deadness Apart from Christ
Rejected alternatives: jidh kaliya (bare ‘flesh’, collapsing with the neutral incarnational sense)

Ephesians 2:3. This ethical sense must never be confused with the honored, neutral incarnational sense of jidh underlying Jidh qaadasho.
By Nature
Approved rendering: Dabeecad ahaan
Transliteration: dah-beh-CAHD ah-HAHN
Doctrine: Total Spiritual Deadness Apart from Christ
Rejected alternatives: fitrada wanaagsan oo hooseeya (implying an innately good disposition, per fitrah doctrine)

Wrath Divine
Approved rendering: Cadho / Cadhada Ilaah
Transliteration: CAHD-hoh
Doctrine: The Wrath of God
Rejected alternatives: cadho caadi ah (ordinary human anger), qaddar-linked fatalistic ‘anger of fate’ idiom
Original: ὀργή
Category: Sin
Ephesians 2:3; 5:6. Must be taught as God’s settled judicial response to sin, not capricious anger; ‘children of wrath’ is an unfamiliar Hebraic destiny-idiom requiring explicit unpacking.
Made Alive Together
Approved rendering: Wada nooleeyay
Transliteration: WAH-dah noh-leh-YAY
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: cusboonaysiin ruuxi oo guud (generic spiritual renewal, detached from Sarakicidda)
Original: συζωοποιέω

Ephesians 2:5. A rare Greek compound; must be taught alongside Sarakicidda — the believer’s new life is grounded in, and inseparable from, Christ’s own historical bodily resurrection.
Seated Heavenly Places
Approved rendering: La fadhiisiyay meelaha samada
Transliteration: fah-DHEE-see-yay sah-MAH-dah
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Rejected alternatives: meelaha jannada (paradise, reintroducing the deferred-hope conflation the baseline salvation entry warns against)
Original: συγκαθίζω … ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:6. A present position of settled honor shared with Christ, not a future hope only. NEVER jannada.
Redemption
Approved rendering: Madaxfurasho
Transliteration: mah-dakh-foo-RAH-shoh
Doctrine: Redemption in Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘la sii daayay’ (simple release, losing the costly-payment sense)
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Election
Ephesians 1:7,14. Contemporary Somali usage applies this exact word to hostage-ransom payments (notably piracy contexts); requires explicit teaching to redirect the image toward Christ’s own atoning self-gift, not a transaction paid to a human captor.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: Dhaxal
Transliteration: DHAH-khal
Doctrine: Inheritance in Christ
Rejected alternatives: mirath-specific legal phrasing implying Sharia gender-differentiated shares
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Election
Ephesians 1:11,14,18; 3:6; 5:5. Somali inheritance practice is governed by codified Islamic mirath rules with gender-differentiated shares; teach explicitly that this is a guaranteed, equal, non-Sharia-governed inheritance in Christ.
Fellow Heirs
Approved rendering: Wax-dhaxal la wadaaga
Transliteration: wahkh-dhah-KHAL lah wah-DAH-gah

Transliteration: MAH-dakh
Doctrine: Headship of Christ Applied to Marriage
Rejected alternatives: madax siyaasadeed oo kaliya (a merely political-chieftaincy sense)
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church
Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; 5:23. Positive madaxweyne-type authority resonance; risk of flattening Christ’s organic, life-giving headship into mere political-hierarchical chieftaincy, especially acute in the 5:23 household context.
Mystery
Approved rendering: Qarsoodiga
Transliteration: qar-soh-DEE-gah
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: asraar (Sufi esoteric secrets reserved for spiritual initiates)
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery
Ephesians 1:9; 3:3-9; 5:32; 6:19. Paul’s mystery is the theological opposite of asraar — a plan once hidden, now openly proclaimed to all believers, with no gatekeeper or spiritual rank.
Boldness Access
Approved rendering: Dhiirranaan / Gelitaan xor ah
Transliteration: dhee-rah-NAHN
Doctrine: Direct, Unmediated Access to God
Rejected alternatives: shafeeco-framed mediated access (taking a side in the internal Somali Sufi/Salafi debate)
Original: παρρησία / προσαγωγή
Category: Mystery
Ephesians 2:18; 3:12. Direct, unmediated access to the Father through Christ lands on the same contested ground as the baseline’s intercession/shafeeco entry; must be taught on its own terms.
Circumcision Uncircumcision
Approved rendering: Gudniinka / Buuryoqabnimada
Transliteration: good-NEEN-kah
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: framing that could be read as commentary on present-day FGM practice

Rejected alternatives: left as an abstract ancient-ethnic reference only, without qabiil application
Original: μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ / ἔχθρα
Category: Unity
Ephesians 2:14. Deliberate teaching bridge to qabiil (clan) division as Somalia’s primary social fault line; must be applied explicitly to clan hierarchy in teaching.
One New Man Corporate
Approved rendering: Bini’aadan Cusub
Transliteration: bee-nee-AH-dahn koo-SOOB
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: ninka cusub (individual new-self term, ch.4; would conflate corporate and individual renewal)

Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Rejected alternatives: heshiis kaliya (a renewable, negotiated clan-truce framing)

Rejected alternatives: reer kaliya (a literal biological/clan household, without the Christ-formed, clan-crossing sense)
Original: οἰκεῖοι τοῦ θεοῦ

Transliteration: car-OOR-tah if-TEEN-kah
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Rejected alternatives: nuur (Sufi pre-existent-light-of-Muhammad devotional tradition)

Rejected alternatives: saar-style spirit-possession framing (episodic, appeasable possession)
Original: πληρόω + πνεῦμα
Category: Sanctification
Ephesians 5:18. Direct collision with saar spirit-possession folk practice; the Spirit’s settled personal indwelling must be sharply distinguished from any episodic possession framework.
Submission

Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Household
Ephesians 5:21-24. Must teach 5:21’s mutual submission as the frame for 5:22-24, and pair the wife’s submission inseparably with the husband’s self-sacrificial love (5:25). Never present 5:22 in isolation as license for domination.

Original: ἀγαπάω / παραδίδωμι

Transliteration: ah-DOHM-moh
Doctrine: Household Codes: Bondservants and Masters
Rejected alternatives: any framing implying present-day minority-lineage commentary
