Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Cross-Reference Analysis — 2 Peter (Full Book) | English → Somali

Scope and Method

This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation, Old Testament allusion, messianic reference, typological pattern, and significant New Testament parallel (including the extensive literary relationship with Jude) occurring across all three chapters of 2 Peter, first verse to last. It then cross-references these against the baseline Romans Language Package to establish rendering-consistency rules for any quotation, doctrine, or fixed phrase shared between the two curricula.

Citation format in this document: Standard English book-name + chapter:verse (“Genesis 15:6,” “Galatians 2:16” style), used for normalizable cross-reference tracking across all Phase 1 analysis artifacts. This is distinct from the destination-language citation convention (Rooma 3:23 style) mandated for the final translated Somali output per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md. A normalization table mapping the two conventions is provided in Section 4.

Governing rule: Every doctrine, term, or fixed phrase already established in the baseline translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json must be reused exactly wherever it recurs in a cross-referenced passage. This document never proposes an alternative rendering for a baseline-fixed term; it only identifies where consistency must be enforced.

Passage (2 Peter)ThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
2 Peter 1:1Righteousness; equal standing of all believers’ faithPeter, Simon Peter’s readersRomans 3:22; Romans 10:12 (“no distinction”)Medium — “faith of equal standing” (isotimos) must reinforce, not soften, the baseline’s clan-blind universality convention (universal_scope_of_gospel).
2 Peter 1:1Deity of Christ (“our God and Savior Jesus Christ”)Jesus ChristTitus 2:13 (identical “God and Savior” grammatical pattern); Isaiah 43:11; Isaiah 45:21 (the LORD alone is Savior)Critical — this single-clause deity claim must be rendered with full grammatical force (per 07_semantic_analysis.md, σωτήρ entry); flag for human theologian review every occurrence.
2 Peter 1:3-4Divine power; divine nature; escaping corruptionGod, believersGenesis 1:26-27 (humanity made in God’s image, background concept); Romans 8:29 (believers “conformed to the image of his Son”)Critical — “partakers of the divine nature” must be anchored to the controlled Romans 8:29 image-conformity analogy, not left as an open ontological claim.
2 Peter 1:5-7Growing in Christian virtue (virtue chain)believersGalatians 5:22-23 (fruit of the Spirit, parallel virtue-list genre); Romans 5:3-5 (suffering→endurance→character→hope sequence)Medium — teach the chain as fruit flowing from grace already given (1:3-4), matching Romans 5:3-5’s sequencing logic, not an independent merit ladder.
2 Peter 1:10Calling and electionbelieversRomans 8:28-30; Romans 9:11-12; Romans 11:29 (God’s gifts and call are irrevocable)High — must use baseline Doorashada Ilaah / Yeedhid exactly; never qaddar/nasiib.
2 Peter 1:12-15The body as a temporary dwelling; Peter’s approaching deathPeter2 Corinthians 5:1-4 (tent/dwelling body imagery, close NT parallel)Medium — “tent” (skēnōma) imagery; leverage Somali nomadic aqal/teendho resonance but make the body/tent metaphor explicit.
2 Peter 1:16-18Transfiguration; eyewitness testimony; Sonship; gloryPeter (narrator), Jesus, God the FatherMatthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36 (Transfiguration accounts); Psalm 2:7 (“You are my Son”); Isaiah 42:1 (the beloved Servant in whom God delights)Critical — the Father’s declaration must match baseline son_of_god/father renderings exactly; also establishes the render pattern any future Gospels curriculum covering Matthew 17:5 must follow.
2 Peter 1:17Sonship and deity of ChristJesus, God the FatherPsalm 2:7; Matthew 3:17 (parallel baptism voice); Matthew 17:5Critical — direct Father-Son address; sharpened by abtirsiimo (paternal-lineage) culture per baseline caution.
2 Peter 1:19Certainty of Christ’s return; prophetic word; morning starChrist (as morning star)Numbers 24:17 (“a star shall come out of Jacob” — messianic); Malachi 4:2 (“the sun of righteousness”); Revelation 22:16 (Jesus as “the bright morning star”)Medium — positive messianic image; explicitly do not cross-link to Isaiah 14:12 (“Lucifer”/day star of Babylon’s king), a wholly different referent.
2 Peter 1:19-21Reliability and inspiration of ScriptureOT prophets, apostolic witnesses2 Timothy 3:16 (“all Scripture is breathed out by God” — closest doctrinal parallel in the NT); Jeremiah 1:9 (“I have put my words in your mouth”); Exodus 4:12High — core doctrine anchor for the entire curriculum; ties directly to baseline inspiration_of_scripture cautions re: tahriif belief.

Core Passage Note

2 Peter 1:16-21 is the point where three of this curriculum’s seven doctrines converge in a single unit: Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture (vv.19-21), The Certainty of Christ’s Return (v.16, parousia), and the deity/Sonship of Christ inherited from the Romans baseline (v.17). This convergence is the theological reason the passage functions as the curriculum’s anchor; it does not narrow the required scope of this analysis, which spans the full letter.

Passage (2 Peter)ThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
2 Peter 2:1False teachers and false prophetsfalse teachers (contrasted with the true prophets of 1:19-21)Deuteronomy 13:1-5; Deuteronomy 18:20-22 (tests for true/false prophets); Jude 4 (close literary parallel: “certain people… who pervert the grace of our God”)High — test criteria must stay text-based (denial of Christ, exploitative greed), never applied casually to local religious figures.
2 Peter 2:1Deity/Lordship of Christ; redemptiondespotēs (Master), ChristExodus 6:6 (redemption from Egypt, OT redemption-purchase pattern); Romans 3:24 (redemption in Christ Jesus)High — Sayidka/despotēs must always be paired explicitly with Rabbiga or Ilaah in the same clause; never left unpaired (per 08_core_glossary.md).
2 Peter 2:4Judgment of the fallen angelssinning angelsGenesis 6:1-4 (“the sons of God”); Jude 6 (near-verbatim parallel passage)Critical — “Godka Mugdiga” only; never Naarta (Islamic Hellfire category), which would import an unsupported, fully developed doctrine onto a distinct, more limited image.
2 Peter 2:5Flood judgment; Noah as type of rescue-through-judgmentNoah (Nuux)Genesis 6:5-8:22 (Flood narrative); 1 Peter 3:20-21 (parallel typological use of the flood — baptism as antitype); Qur’anic Nuux narrative (Surah 11:25-49; 71:1-28)Medium — genuine cross-tradition narrative bridge; teach 2 Peter’s specific “historical judgment precedent” application, distinct from a moralizing-fable reading.
2 Peter 2:6Sodom and Gomorrah as example of judgmentGenesis 19:1-29; Luke 17:28-29 (Jesus’ own use of Sodom as an end-times-judgment example)Low — place names already established Somali forms (Sodom, Gomora).
2 Peter 2:7-9Rescue of the righteous amid judgmentLot (Luud)Genesis 19:1-16, 19:29 (Lot’s rescue); Qur’anic Luuṭ narrative parallelMedium — rescue-of-the-righteous typology connects directly to the baseline salvation doctrine (Badbaado).
2 Peter 2:10-11Angelic restraint in pronouncing judgmentangels, “glorious ones”Jude 8-9 (close literary parallel referencing the dispute over Moses’ body); Zechariah 3:1-2 (the angel of the LORD rebukes Satan’s accusation); Deuteronomy 34:5-6 (Moses’ burial)Medium — background allusion chain is indirect; keep teaching notes text-anchored and avoid importing extrabiblical material into the translated text itself.
2 Peter 2:13-19Corruption, unrighteousness, and the false promise of freedomfalse teachersRomans 6:16-22 (slaves of sin vs. slaves of righteousness — direct thematic and lexical parallel); John 8:34High — direct Romans parallel; align the freedom/slavery contrast conceptually with Romans 6 without duplicating baseline terms that belong to that curriculum specifically.
2 Peter 2:15-16Balaam as example of a false teacher driven by greedBalaam (Balcaam), his donkeyNumbers 22:1-35 (the donkey speaks); Numbers 31:16; Deuteronomy 23:4-5; Jude 11 (parallel reference to “Balaam’s error”)Low-Medium — retain the vivid narrative detail plainly, without embellishment.
2 Peter 2:22Direct OT quotation — relapse into corruptionProverbs 26:11 — direct quotation (“A dog returns to its own vomit”)High — verbatim OT quotation; see Section 3 rendering-consistency rule.

Chapter 3

Passage (2 Peter)ThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
2 Peter 3:2Reliability of Scripture; prophets and apostles togetherholy prophets, apostlesJude 17 (parallel: “remember the predictions of the apostles”); connects back to 2 Peter 1:19-21High
2 Peter 3:3-4Mockers deny the certainty of Christ’s returnscoffersJude 18 (near-identical parallel: “In the last time there will be scoffers”); Psalm 42:3, 10 (“Where is your God?”); Jeremiah 17:15 (“Where is the word of the LORD?”)High — the mockery-of-delay pattern has deep OT precedent; not a merely modern skepticism theme.
2 Peter 3:4Certainty of Christ’s return; stability-of-creation argumentGenesis 8:22 (seasons continue — the very “stability” the mockers wrongly assume); Ecclesiastes 1:4-11 (cyclical-permanence argument, thematically close)Critical (parousia).
2 Peter 3:5-6Creation and flood as precedent for future judgmentGenesis 1:6-9 (creation, separation of waters); Genesis 7:11, 7:17-24 (the Flood)High — reinforces the Nuux narrative resonance already flagged at 2 Peter 2:5.
2 Peter 3:7Future judgment by fireIsaiah 66:15-16 (the LORD comes in fire to judge); Zephaniah 1:18; Malachi 4:1 (“the day is coming, burning like an oven”)High — Day-of-the-Lord fire imagery; see Section 2E below.
2 Peter 3:8God’s timelessness; patience of God’s timingPsalm 90:4 — close paraphrase (“a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday”)High — near-quotation; see Section 3 rendering-consistency rule.
2 Peter 3:9Patience of God’s timing; universal offer of repentanceExodus 34:6 (the LORD “slow to anger” — the core OT patience formula); Ezekiel 18:23; Ezekiel 33:11 (“I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked… turn back and live”); Romans 2:4 (“God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance”); Romans 9:22 (God’s “much patience” toward vessels of wrath — same Greek root, μακροθυμία)Critical — direct lexical and thematic link to two Romans passages already in the baseline curriculum; see Section 3 rendering-consistency rule.
2 Peter 3:10The Day of the Lord; cosmic dissolutionIsaiah 34:4 (the heavens rolled up like a scroll); Joel 2:31; Zephaniah 1:14-15; Matthew 24:35-36 (Jesus’ own “heaven and earth will pass away… no one knows the day or hour”); 1 Thessalonians 5:2 (“the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” — identical image)Critical — major bridge/collision term with Islamic Maalinta Qiyaamaha; see Section 2E.
2 Peter 3:12-13New heavens and new earthIsaiah 65:17; Isaiah 66:22; Revelation 21:1 (direct NT parallel)Critical — must be taught alongside kingdom_of_god (Boqortooyada Ilaah) as the renewed-creation form of God’s reign, not a separate, unrelated hope.
2 Peter 3:15Paul’s writings; direct cross-curriculum linkPaul (Bawlos)Direct meta-reference to the Pauline epistles — the most direct textual bridge to this Language Package’s own Romans curriculumHigh — any doctrine treated in both letters must carry identical Somali terminology.
2 Peter 3:16Reliability of Scripture; misuse of Scripture by false teachersPaul’s lettersConnects back to 2 Peter 1:20-21 (inspiration) and to 2 Peter 2 (false teachers) in a single verseHigh — doctrinally dense, cross-doctrine verse; flag for human theologian review.
2 Peter 3:18Closing doxology; glory of ChristJesus ChristRomans 11:36; Romans 16:27 (Pauline doxology genre pattern: “to him be glory forever”)High — per baseline glory (Ammaan); match Romans’ doxology register.

Noah, herald of righteousness2:5Genesis 6-8Type of rescue-through-judgment; salvation and judgment operate together, not as oppositesGenuine Qur’anic-narrative bridge (Nuux).

The Day of the Lord3:7, 3:10Isaiah 13; Isaiah 34; Joel 2; Zephaniah 1; Malachi 4Christ’s own return (parousia) is identified with the OT Day of the LORD, now historically anchored in the person of JesusCritical; see Section 2E.
New heavens and new earth3:13Isaiah 65:17; Isaiah 66:22Eschatological consummation of God’s reign (kingdom of God) in a renewed physical creation, not an escape from creationCritical; link to kingdom_of_god.

3. Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations and Terms

The following quotations, phrases, or doctrinal terms appear (or will likely appear) in more than one curriculum within this Language Package. Somali renderings must be locked and reused identically wherever these recur in future translation work.

  1. Proverbs 26:11 (quoted at 2 Peter 2:22) — “A dog returns to its own vomit.” If a future Proverbs curriculum translates this verse, the rendering fixed in 2 Peter 2:22’s Phase 2 output becomes authoritative for both; whichever is translated first sets the term. Record the agreed Somali rendering in translation memory under a new proverbs_26_11 entry once fixed.
  2. Psalm 90:4 (echoed at 2 Peter 3:8) — “A thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday.” Any future Psalms curriculum covering Psalm 90 must match 2 Peter 3:8’s rendering exactly, since 2 Peter is a near-paraphrase rather than a formal citation; do not allow independent phrasing to develop in parallel.
  3. Genesis 6:1-4 / Jude 6 (2 Peter 2:4) — The “sons of God” and fallen-angels judgment tradition. If Jude is ever translated within this pipeline, 2 Peter 2:4’s “Godka Mugdiga” rendering and its accompanying prohibition on “Naarta” must be applied identically to the corresponding Jude 6 text.
  4. The Jude/2 Peter 2 literary parallel — 2 Peter 2:1-18 closely parallels Jude 4-16 verse-for-verse in content (false teachers, angels, Sodom, Balaam, “blots and blemishes” imagery). Any future translation of Jude must reuse every 2 Peter 2 rendering established here (pseudodidaskalos, hairesis, apōleia, despotēs, Tartaros/Godka Mugdiga, adikia) rather than independently re-deriving equivalents.
  5. Matthew 17:5 / Psalm 2:7 (echoed at 2 Peter 1:17) — The Father’s voice, “This is my beloved Son.” Any future Gospels curriculum covering the Transfiguration accounts (Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36) must render the Father’s declaration identically to 2 Peter 1:17, and both must match baseline son_of_god/father exactly.
  6. Isaiah 65:17 / 66:22 (2 Peter 3:13) and Revelation 21:1 — “New heavens and new earth.” Fix the Somali phrase here as the standard rendering for any future Isaiah or Revelation curriculum.
  7. Romans 2:4 and Romans 9:22 (μακροθυμία, echoed by 2 Peter 3:9 and 3:15) — 2 Peter’s makrothymia (God’s patience) shares the identical Greek root with two passages already covered by the Romans baseline curriculum, which currently has no dedicated patience/makrothymia entry distinct from providence. This curriculum proposes Dulqaad-badnaanta Ilaah (see 08_core_glossary.md, Section F) as the fixed rendering. Recommendation: retroactively apply this same rendering if Romans 2:4 and 9:22 are ever revised or re-translated, so that God’s patience reads identically across the entire Pauline corpus covered by this Language Package.
  8. All baseline-fixed Critical/High terms recurring in cross-referenced passagesIlaah, Rabbiga, Ciise Masiixa, Ruuxa Quduuska ah, Wiilka Ilaah, Aabbe, Xaqnimo, Badbaado, Nimco, Iimaan, Quduus, Ammaan, Nabi, Wax sii sheegidda, Doorashada Ilaah, Yeedhid, Daryeelka Ilaah — must appear identically in every cross-referenced passage listed above (e.g., Romans 8:28-30 material echoed at 2 Peter 1:10; Romans 6:16-22 echoed at 2 Peter 2:19; Romans 2:4/9:22 echoed at 2 Peter 3:9). No new synonym may be introduced for these terms under any cross-reference context.
  9. Titus 2:13 / 2 Peter 1:1 (“God and Savior”) — Should Titus ever be translated in this pipeline, the “our God and Savior Jesus Christ” construction must be rendered identically to 2 Peter 1:1’s fixed phrasing, preserving the single-clause deity-of-Christ grammatical force in both places.

4. Citation Normalization Table

Internal analysis in this and companion documents uses standard English book names for normalizable cross-referencing. Final Somali-language translation output must use the established Somali Bible book-name conventions. This table extends the list already given in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md with every book cross-referenced in this document.
