Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Core Glossary

Core Glossary — English → Somali | 1 Peter 1–5

Purpose

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, organized by first occurrence in 1 Peter. It extends the baseline Romans translation_memory.json/bible_term_registry.json for the 1 Peter curriculum.

  • [BASELINE] = term already established in the Romans Language Package; rendering reused EXACTLY, no deviation permitted.
  • [NEW] = term newly required for 1 Peter; proposed rendering follows the same risk methodology as the baseline and must be reviewed and added to translation memory before Phase 2 translation begins.

Risk tiers follow the baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions: Critical (human theologian review, every occurrence) / High (human theologian review) / Medium (native speaker review) / Low (automated review).

Total new terms requiring translation memory addition89

Plus 16 baseline terms reused exactly from the Romans Language Package (translation_memory.json) without modification.

This glossary must be merged into an updated translation_memory.json (version increment required) before any Phase 2 segment translation of 1 Peter begins. All Critical and High risk new terms require human theologian review before finalization, per the baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json review-routing convention.

Critical Risk Terms

Righteousness

Approved rendering: Xaqnimo
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (good deeds, as the ground itself)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter 3:14 (‘suffer for righteousness’ sake’) the received-by-faith status must not be conflated with suffering itself earning that status — righteousness remains a status, suffering is what one may encounter while living out of it.

Salvation

Approved rendering: Badbaado
Transliteration: bahd-BAH-doh
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: jannada gelid (entering paradise, as the whole content)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. 1 Peter 1:5, 1:9, 1:10 present Badbaado as a present possession already secured and actively guarded, awaiting only final unveiling — never a probabilistic future outcome deferred to Judgment Day.

Resurrection

Approved rendering: Sarakicidda
Transliteration: sah-rah-kee-CID-dah
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday (being raised up to heaven, without dying)
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter 1:3 and 1:21 grounds the letter’s ‘living hope’; must always presuppose the real prior death made explicit at 3:18.

Lord

Approved rendering: Rabbiga
Transliteration: RAHB-bee-gah
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: sayidka (master/boss, non-divine)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Reserved strictly for Christ’s exclusive divine Lordship (1 Peter 1:3, 3:15’s ‘sanctify Christ as Lord’); never used for the human honorific in 3:6 (see ‘lord_human’).

Messiah

Approved rendering: Masiixa
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: nabi kaliya (merely a prophet)
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter must carry both Davidic-royal and suffering-servant content (1:11, 4:13, 5:1), not merely the Qur’anic honorific sense; always paired with Ciise.

Mission

Approved rendering: Warka wanaagsan faafinta
Transliteration: WAR-kah wah-NAHG-sahn fah-ah-FIN-tah
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Rejected alternatives: wacdinta (preaching/proselytizing, dangerous given lethal evangelism risk in Somalia)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Background term informing 1 Peter 3:15’s readiness to give a ‘defense/reasoned answer’ (see below) — readiness to answer when asked is distinguished from unsolicited public proclamation.

Jesus

Approved rendering: Ciise
Transliteration: SEE-say
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Nabi Ciise’ (Prophet Jesus, without Masiixa)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Every occurrence in 1 Peter (1:1, 1:3, 1:7, etc.) pairs Ciise with Masiixa; bare Ciise risks collapsing the referent to the Qur’anic prophet-Jesus alone.

God

Approved rendering: Ilaah
Transliteration: ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Eebe (devotional invocation-style term), Alle (direct Arabic loan)
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Opens 1 Peter’s doxology (1:3, ‘the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ’).

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Named in 1 Peter 1:2’s Trinitarian formula and 4:14’s ‘Spirit of glory’ (see below); never Jibriil, and the letter’s 1:11 ‘Spirit of Christ’ adds an explicit Trinitarian identification requiring first-occurrence teaching.

Father

Approved rendering: Aabbe
Transliteration: AH-beh
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Abuure (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Opens 1 Peter 1:3’s doxology and is paired at 1:17 with impartial judgment and reverent fear language; teaching must hold both the relational intimacy of Aabbe and the reverent-fear material together without collapsing into merit-based fear.

Spirit Of Christ

Approved rendering: Ruuxa Masiixa (= Ruuxa Quduuska ah)
Transliteration: ROO-khah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Inspiration and Reliability of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: reading as a separate, lesser spirit distinct from the Holy Spirit
Original: Πνεῦμα Χριστοῦ
Category: God

New term for 1 Peter 1:11. Explicit Trinitarian identification of the pre-incarnate Christ’s own Spirit as the one who inspired the OT prophets; reinforces both Deity of Christ and Inspiration of Scripture doctrines simultaneously, with no Islamic analogue.

New Birth

Approved rendering: Dib u dhalasho
Transliteration: DIB oo dhah-LAH-shoh
Doctrine: New Birth and Regeneration
Rejected alternatives: dhalasho kaliya (bare ‘birth’, losing the decisive again/anew sense)
Original: ἀναγεννάω
Category: Salvation

New term for 1 Peter 1:3, 1:23. CRITICAL: collides with abtirsiimo (paternal lineage identity), Somali society’s primary identity anchor. Must be taught explicitly alongside ‘adoption’ (Sheegasho carruurnimo) as additive to, never erasing, clan lineage.

Living Hope

Approved rendering: Rajo Nool
Transliteration: RAH-joh NOHL
Doctrine: Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: Rajo alone (loses the required present-tense-certainty marker)
Original: ἐλπὶς ζῶσα
Category: Eschatology

New term for 1 Peter 1:3. Curriculum anchor term. Must be present-tense confidence grounded in Christ’s completed historical resurrection, never aspirational hope pending Judgment Day (parallel to the baseline’s Badbaado/jannada caution).

Revelation Of Jesus Christ

Approved rendering: Muujinta Ciise Masiixa
Transliteration: moo-JIN-tah SEE-say mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: bare future-event framing detached from Second Coming/Lordship content
Original: ἀποκάλυψις Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Eschatology

New term for 1 Peter 1:7, 1:13. Ciise always paired with Masiixa per baseline naming rule; ties directly to Critical-risk Lordship and Resurrection doctrines.

Sprinkling Of Blood

Approved rendering: Rushidda Dhiigga Ciise Masiixa
Transliteration: roo-SHID-dah DHEEG-gah SEE-say mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Rejected alternatives: a merely decorative or unfamiliar ritual-detail reading, absent the Exodus 24 covenant background
Original: ῥαντισμὸς αἵματος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 1:2. Covenant-ratification and cleansing imagery echoing Sinai (Exodus 24); no counterpart exists in Islamic atonement theology, which possesses no sacrificial blood-covenant category tying a substitute’s blood to cleansing for obedience.

Ransom Redemption

Approved rendering: Madaxfurasho
Transliteration: mah-dahkh-foo-RAH-shoh
Doctrine: Ransom and Redemption
Rejected alternatives: fidyah (Islamic legal-payment ransom, lacking a substitutionary-blood mechanism for sin)
Original: λυτρόω
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 1:18-19. Deliverance purchased at the cost of Christ’s precious blood, not silver or gold; must be re-anchored in teaching away from fidyah’s different legal-payment logic.

Lamb Without Blemish

Approved rendering: Wanka aan iin ku jirin ee aan wasakh lahayn
Transliteration: WAHN-kah ahn EEN koo jee-RIN eh ahn wah-SAHKH lah-HAYN
Doctrine: Ransom and Redemption
Rejected alternatives: a bare literary metaphor with no OT sacrificial content
Original: ἀμνὸς ἄμωμος καὶ ἄσπιλος
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 1:19. Passover/OT sacrificial purity typology, entirely absent from Qur’anic Christology; requires explicit OT sacrificial-background teaching every occurrence.

Living Stone

Approved rendering: Dhagax Nool
Transliteration: DHAH-gakh NOHL
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: a flat literal reading absent OT messianic building-stone background
Original: λίθος ζῶν
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 2:4-5. Messianic building-stone imagery (Ps 118, Isa 28) with no Qur’anic Christological parallel; requires OT background teaching.

Holy Priesthood

Approved rendering: Wadaadnimo Quduus ah / Wadaadnimo Boqortooyo ah
Transliteration: wah-DAHD-nee-moh koo-DOOS ah / wah-DAHD-nee-moh boh-kor-toh-YOH ah
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: bare wadaadnimo without the universal-believer qualifier (risks installing a new specialist class rather than removing one)
Original: ἱεράτευμα ἅγιον / βασίλειον ἱεράτευμα
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 2:5, 2:9. Somali ‘wadaad’ denotes a specific trained/hereditary religious-specialist class; the universal priesthood of all believers must be taught as removing that exclusive mediator tier, requiring two-sided explanation every occurrence.

Cornerstone Stumbling Stone

Approved rendering: Dhagaxa Geeska / Dhagax lagu Turunturoodo
Transliteration: DHAH-gah-khah GEHS-kah / DHAH-gakh lah-goo too-roon-too-ROH-doh

Rejected alternatives: reduction to a mere success/failure metaphor absent OT testimonia background
Original: λίθος εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας / λίθος προσκόμματος
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 2:6-8. Dual foundation/obstacle typology (Ps 118:22, Isa 8:14, 28:16); requires OT background teaching.

Rejected alternatives: an implied replacement/erasure of ethnic Israel’s own place in God’s plan
Original: γένος ἐκλεκτόν / ἔθνος ἅγιον / λαὸς εἰς περιποίησιν
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 2:9. Fourfold OT-derived corporate identity title (Exod 19:6, Isa 43:20-21) built on ‘election’ and ‘holy’; intersects with the Unity of Jews and Gentiles doctrine.

Bore Our Sins

Approved rendering: Dembiyaheenna wuxuu ku qaaday jidhkiisa (geedka korkiisa)
Transliteration: dem-bee-yah-HEHN-nah woo-KHOO koo KAH-day jidh-KEE-sah (GEHD-kah kor-KEE-sah)
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Rejected alternatives: an exemplary-suffering-only reading (Christ merely modeling, not bearing, sin)
Original: ἀναφέρω τὰς ἁμαρτίας…ἐπὶ τὸ ξύλον
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 2:24. Direct collision with Qur’an 6:164/53:38 (no soul bears another’s burden); must be taught plainly, never softened.

Wounds Healed

Approved rendering: Nabraha isaga ayaa laydiin ku bogsiiyay
Transliteration: NAHB-rah-hah ee-SAH-gah ah-YAH lay-DEEN koo bohg-see-YAY
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

Original: τῷ μώλωπι αὐτοῦ ἰάθητε
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 2:24, quoting Isaiah 53:5. Must convey Christ’s suffering as the source of healing, requiring the same explicit teaching as ‘bore_our_sins’.

Approved rendering: Quduus ka dhiga Rabbiga (Masiixa)
Transliteration: koo-DOOS kah DHEE-gah RAHB-bee-gah (mah-SEE-khah)
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: any qualified or softened rendering of the confessional command
Original: ἁγιάσατε…Κύριον
Category: Christology

New compound for 1 Peter 3:15, built on baseline Rabbiga and Quduus. Echoes the confessional weight of Romans 10:9; must be rendered without qualification.

Put To Death In Flesh Made Alive In Spirit

Approved rendering: Jidhka wuu ku dhintay, Ruuxa wuuna ku noolaaday
Transliteration: JIDH-kah woo koo dhin-TAY, ROO-khah WOO-nah koo noh-lah-DAY
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday-style no-death ascension (Qur’an 4:157 reading)
Original: θανατωθεὶς σαρκί, ζωοποιηθεὶς πνεύματι
Category: Resurrection of Christ

New term for 1 Peter 3:18. Direct collision with Qur’an 4:157’s denial of the crucifixion-death; must always affirm a real, historical death.

Proclaimed To Spirits In Prison

Approved rendering: Wuxuu ku dhawaaqay ruuxyadii xabbisnaa
Transliteration: woo-KHOO koo dhah-WAH-kay roo-khyah-DEE khahb-bis-NAH
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: silently adopting a single settled interpretation without flagging the genuine exegetical range
Original: τοῖς ἐν φυλακῇ πνεύμασιν…ἐκήρυξεν
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

New term for 1 Peter 3:19. One of the most exegetically debated NT passages; mandatory human theologian review given the unresolved interpretive difficulty in the source text itself, apart from any translation-term risk.

Right Hand Of God

Approved rendering: Midigta Ilaah
Transliteration: mee-DIG-tah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: a merely honored seat among other exalted figures
Original: ἐν δεξιᾷ Θεοῦ
Category: Christology

New term for 1 Peter 3:22. Ties directly to the baseline’s Lordship of Christ doctrine; must convey exclusive, supreme exaltation over angels, authorities, and powers.

Spirit Of Glory

Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah (ee Ammaanta)
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah (eh ah-MAHN-tah)
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil, an impersonal force resting on believers
Original: τὸ τῆς δόξης Πνεῦμα
Category: God

New compound for 1 Peter 4:14, built on baseline Ruuxa Quduuska ah. Reinforces the Trinitarian, personal identity of the Spirit resting on suffering believers.

Christian Identity Label

Approved rendering: Masiixi
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khee
Doctrine: Christian Identity and Persecution Safety
Rejected alternatives: avoiding the label entirely, which would fail the text’s own identity-badge function at 4:16
Original: Χριστιανός
Category: Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 4:16. SAFETY-CRITICAL: direct parallel to the baseline’s Evangelism Critical-risk flag. Public identification as Masiixi carries real, sometimes lethal, danger in parts of Somalia, particularly under armed extremist control. Mandatory human theologian review for both translation accuracy and pastoral/physical-safety framing.

Elders

Approved rendering: Waayeelka (Kiniisadda)
Transliteration: WAH-yehl-kah (kee-nee-SAHD-dah)
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Rejected alternatives: bare odayaal (imports clan-elder/Guurti governance and judicial authority wholesale)
Original: πρεσβύτεροι
Category: Elders and Humility

New term for 1 Peter 5:1-4. Somali odayaal hold real governing/judicial authority of enormous social and political weight; the ‘(Kiniisadda)’ qualifier is mandatory at first occurrence per lesson.

High Risk Terms

Gospel

Approved rendering: Injiilka
Transliteration: in-JEEL-kah
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: war wanaagsan (generic ‘good news’, without proclamation weight)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter 1:25 closes the new-birth/imperishable-word unit; 4:6 carries additional exegetical complexity (‘gospel preached to the dead’) flagged separately below — the term rendering itself is unaffected, only the surrounding exegesis requires theologian caution.

Grace

Approved rendering: Nimco
Transliteration: NIM-koh
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: naxariis (mercy/compassion — distinct concept, see ‘mercy’ below), barako (blessing/spiritual potency tied to a sheekh’s lineage or tomb)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Recurs throughout 1 Peter (1:2, 1:10, 1:13, 3:7, 4:10, 5:5, 5:10) and climactically at 5:12 (‘the true grace of God’); must remain distinct from ελεος/Naxariis (mercy) introduced newly for this letter.

Faith

Approved rendering: Iimaan
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: rumaysad (generic belief/conviction)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Object of faith (Ciise Masiixa) must stay explicit at every 1 Peter occurrence (1:5, 1:7, 1:9, 1:21, 5:9), not left as generalized Islamic pillars-of-belief conviction.

Apostle

Approved rendering: Diray
Transliteration: dee-RYE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: Rasuul (near-proper-title for Muhammad in vernacular Somali)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Underlies Peter’s own self-identification and eyewitness authority (1 Peter 1:1, 5:1’s ‘witness’ language); never Rasuul.

Called

Approved rendering: Loo yeedhay
Transliteration: loh yeh-DHAI
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: la casuumay (invited, as to a social event)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter this covers priesthood identity (2:9), enduring unjust suffering (2:21), returning blessing for evil (3:9), and final glory (5:10) — sovereign summons weight must be retained across all four contexts.

Calling

Approved rendering: Yeedhid
Transliteration: yeh-DHID
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: casuumaad

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for the noun form of God’s summons as it recurs across 1 Peter’s calling references.

Holy

Approved rendering: Quduus
Transliteration: koo-DOOS
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: nadiif (ritually/physically clean)
Original: ἅγιος / ἁγιάζω
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Anchors 1 Peter 1:15-16 (‘be holy, for I am holy’), 2:5, 2:9, and 3:15’s ‘sanctify Christ as Lord’; must retain moral-relational, not ritual-cleanliness, sense.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: Quduusnimo
Transliteration: koo-doos-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: nadiifin (ritual cleaning)
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Named in 1 Peter’s opening Trinitarian formula (1:2, ‘sanctification of the Spirit’).

Adoption

Approved rendering: Sheegasho carruurnimo
Transliteration: sheh-eh-GAH-shoh car-oor-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: sheegad kaliya (bare clan-incorporation term, without the full-inheritance qualifier)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Must be taught explicitly alongside 1 Peter’s new ‘new_birth’ and ‘inheritance’ terms (1:3-4, 1:23) so the second birth is framed as full, equal family standing, not a lesser sheegad-style incorporation.

Election

Approved rendering: Doorashada Ilaah
Transliteration: doh-rah-SHAH-dah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: qaddar (fate/decree), nasiib (luck/fortune)
Original: ἐκλεκτός / ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Underlies 1 Peter 1:1 (‘elect’), 2:4, 2:9; recurs in the ‘chosen_race_holy_nation’ compound below.

Sin

Approved rendering: Dembi
Transliteration: DEM-bee
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: qalad (mistake/error)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Underlies 1 Peter 2:24 (‘bore our sins’), 3:18, and 4:8 (‘love covers a multitude of sins’); each compound context below carries its own additional risk notes.

Glory

Approved rendering: Ammaan
Transliteration: ah-MAHN
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nuur (divine light, associated with Sufi Nuurka Muxammed pre-existent-light devotion)
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Recurs throughout 1 Peter (1:7, 1:8, 1:11, 1:21, 4:11, 4:13-14, 5:1, 5:4, 5:10); never rendered with nuur, a risk recurring sharply at 2:9’s ‘marvelous light’ (see below).

Obedience Of Faith

Approved rendering: Adeecidda rumaysadka
Transliteration: ah-deh-CID-dah roo-may-SAHD-kah
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: hufnaanta diinta (religious duty-performance)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Underlies 1 Peter 1:2’s ‘sprinkling of blood…for obedience,’ where obedience flows from Christ’s already-accomplished cleansing, not duty-performance earning standing.

Power Of God

Approved rendering: Awoodda Ilaah
Transliteration: ah-WOHD-dah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: xoogga Ilaah (raw force, less precise for saving power)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter 1:5 guards believers’ inheritance; in 5:6 (‘mighty hand of God’) believers humble themselves under it — see compound entry below.

Prophet

Approved rendering: Nabi
Transliteration: NAH-bee
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: faaliye (fortune-teller/diviner)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. 1 Peter 1:10-12 describes OT prophets searching out the coming suffering and glory of Christ, inspired by Christ’s own Spirit — a direct Trinitarian claim to be taught alongside this term.

Intercession

Approved rendering: Dhexdhexaadinta
Transliteration: dheh-dheh-KHAH-din-tah
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Rejected alternatives: shafeeco (intercession sought through a Sufi sheekh or wali)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Relevant background for 1 Peter’s shepherd/overseer-of-souls (2:25) and elder-shepherding (5:1-4) imagery, where Christ’s unique mediating headship must be taught on its own terms, not assumed to align with shafeeco.

Providence

Approved rendering: Daryeelka Ilaah
Transliteration: dar-YEHL-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: qaddar (fate/decree), waa la iga qoray-style fatalistic idiom

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Directly cross-referenced in 1 Peter 4:19 (‘faithful Creator’) and 5:7 (‘anxiety cast on God’); must be taught as personal Father-hearted care, not fatalism, especially since invoked amid suffering.

Hope

Approved rendering: Rajo
Transliteration: RAH-joh
Doctrine: Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: passive-wish framing detached from 1:13’s commanded, volitional sense
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Eschatology

New term for 1 Peter 1:13, 1:21, 3:15. A commanded act of the will grounded in secured grace, not a probabilistic hope pending an undisclosed future verdict.

Inheritance

Approved rendering: Dhaxal
Transliteration: DHAH-khal
Doctrine: Inheritance and Assurance of Salvation
Rejected alternatives: a sheegad-style lesser incorporated portion
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Salvation

New term for 1 Peter 1:4. Ties directly to ‘adoption’ (Sheegasho carruurnimo); must be taught as full and equal inheritance, never a lesser incorporated portion as sheegad custom might otherwise suggest.

Trial Testing

Approved rendering: Jirrabaad / Tijaabo
Transliteration: jir-rah-BAHD / tee-JAH-boh
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: a bare hardship word lacking the refining/proving sense
Original: πειρασμός / δοκίμιον
Category: Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 1:6-7, echoed at 4:12. Core term for the letter’s suffering doctrine; must be paired consistently with the refining-fire metaphor, not punitive or arbitrary suffering.

Honor

Approved rendering: Sharaf / Ciraan
Transliteration: shah-RAHF / kee-RAHN
Doctrine: Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: a socially self-asserted sharaf claim, as opposed to Christ’s own commendation
Original: τιμή
Category: Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 1:7 and 3:7. Intersects directly with Somali sharaf/ceeb (honor/shame) social currency; must be taught as Christ’s own future commendation of proven faith, not a status claim asserted socially.

Sojourner

Approved rendering: Socdaal / Qariib ah
Transliteration: sohc-DAHL / kah-REEB ah
Doctrine: Sojourner and Exile Identity
Rejected alternatives: framing through the specific Islamic hijrah narrative of Muhammad’s migration
Original: παρεπίδημος / πάροικος
Category: Christian Identity

New term for 1 Peter 1:1, 1:17, 2:11. Given Somali displacement history (civil war, famine, refugee movement), this metaphor lands with unusual force; must be distinguished from hijrah, a different category of religious-migration event.

Foreknowledge

Approved rendering: Aqoonta hore ee Ilaah
Transliteration: ah-KOHN-tah HOH-reh eh ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: qaddar (fate/decree)
Original: πρόγνωσις
Category: Salvation

New term for 1 Peter 1:2, 1:20. Ties to ‘election’ (Doorashada Ilaah); must convey purposive, personal foreordination by a relational God, not impersonal fate.

Suffering

Approved rendering: Xanuunno / Dhibaatooyin
Transliteration: khah-NOON-noh / dhee-bah-toh-YIN
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: retributive-suffering / qaddar-style fatalistic endurance reading

Category: Suffering

New term threaded throughout 1 Peter (1:11, 2:21-24, 3:18, 4:1, 4:13, 5:1, 5:9). Risk escalates to Critical wherever applied specifically to Christ’s own atoning suffering (2:21-24, 3:18, 4:1).

Reverent Fear

Approved rendering: Cabsi
Transliteration: CAHB-see
Doctrine: Reverent Fear of God
Rejected alternatives: taqwa-style meritorious fear-of-judgment framing, legalistic terror undermining assurance
Original: φόβος
Category: Holiness

New term for 1 Peter 1:17, 2:18, 3:2, 3:14-16. Must be taught as reverent trust within a relationship already secured by new birth and grace (ch.1), not merit-accruing dread.

Ancestral Futile Ways

Approved rendering: Dhaqankii lagu dhaxlay awowayaasha
Transliteration: dhah-kahn-KEE lah-goo DHAKH-lay ah-woh-wah-YAH-shah
Doctrine: Ransom and Redemption
Rejected alternatives: a blanket condemnation of Somali heritage or ancestry itself
Original: πατροπαράδοτος
Category: Holiness

New term for 1 Peter 1:18. Sensitive given Somali culture’s deep respect for ancestral custom (xeer, abtirsiimo); must be taught as freedom specifically from futility, not from ancestry itself.

Brotherly Love

Approved rendering: Jacaylka Walaalaha Rumaysadka
Transliteration: jah-CAHYL-kah wah-lah-LAH-hah roo-may-SAHD-kah
Doctrine: Mutual Love and Church Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: bare walaaltinimo (carries strong clan-brotherhood/qabiil connotations)
Original: φιλαδελφία
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 1:22, 2:17, 3:8, 4:8. The ‘Rumaysadka’ qualifier keeps this Christ-centered and cross-clan; never rendered bare.

Brotherhood Global

Approved rendering: Walaalaha Rumaysadka ee Dunida
Transliteration: wah-lah-LAH-hah roo-may-SAHD-kah eh doo-NEE-dah
Doctrine: Mutual Love and Church Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: bare walaaltinimo
Original: ἀδελφότης
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 5:9. Same clan-brotherhood collision risk as ‘brotherly_love’; global solidarity in suffering among believers everywhere.

Word Of God

Approved rendering: Ereyga Ilaah (nool, sii jira)
Transliteration: eh-REY-gah ee-LAHH (nohl, see JEE-rah)
Doctrine: Inspiration and Reliability of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: treatment as merely one human religious text among others, given tahriif
Original: ῥῆμα / λόγος θεοῦ
Category: Covenant

New term for 1 Peter 1:23-25, 4:11 (‘oracles of God’). Scripture’s abiding reliability must be affirmed against the widely taught tahriif claim of textual corruption.

Spiritual House

Approved rendering: Guri xagga Ruuxa ah
Transliteration: GOO-ree KHAG-gah ROO-khah ah
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: a physical shrine/masjid-shaped holy-site framing

Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: qurbaan (animal sacrifice practice, e.g. Eid al-Adha)
Original: πνευματικαὶ θυσίαι
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 2:5. Non-material offerings of praise, obedience, and self-offering; contrast with qurbaan requires explicit unpacking.

Marvelous Light

Approved rendering: Nuurka yaabka leh
Transliteration: NOOR-kah YAHB-kah leh
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: nuur used bare (Sufi ‘Nuurka Muxammed’ pre-existent-light association)
Original: φῶς θαυμαστόν
Category: Church

New term for 1 Peter 2:9. Same collision risk the baseline already flags for ‘glory’/nuur; teaching must make explicit this is God’s own revealed truth in Christ, not an allusion to another prophetic figure’s pre-existent light.

Good Deeds

Approved rendering: Shuqullada wanaagsan
Transliteration: shoo-KOOL-lah-dah wah-NAHG-sahn
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan treated as the ground of standing before God
Original: καλὰ ἔργα
Category: Holiness

New term for 1 Peter 2:12, 2:15, 3:16. Function strictly as fruit/witness, never as merit, per the baseline’s rejected camal wanaagsan framework.

Approved rendering: Ka-dambaynta / Hoggaansanaanta
Transliteration: kah-dahm-BAYN-tah / hohg-gahn-sah-NAHN-tah
Doctrine: Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance

Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Household Codes

New term for 1 Peter 2:13, 2:18, 3:1, 5:5. Acutely sensitive given Somali statelessness, clan authority (xeer, Guurti), and warlordism history; must be paired with 5:2-3’s warning against domineering leadership.

Household Servants

Approved rendering: Addoommada
Transliteration: ah-DOHM-mah-dah
Doctrine: Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance
Rejected alternatives: a reading that normalizes contemporary caste-based/slave-descent discrimination
Original: οἰκέτης

New term for 1 Peter 2:18. Requires sensitivity given the historical and ongoing social stigma attached to slave-descent status among some Somali social groups.

Wives Submit

Approved rendering: Xaasaska ha ka dambeeyeen
Transliteration: khah-SAHS-kah hah kah dahm-beh-YEHN
Doctrine: Household Codes and Marriage Relationships
Rejected alternatives: a rendering taught in isolation from 3:7’s reciprocal-honor clause
Original: γυναῖκες ὑποτασσόμεναι
Category: Household Codes

New term for 1 Peter 3:1. Must always be taught together with 3:7’s reciprocal honor and co-heirship clause to avoid a one-sided reading in an already patriarchal social context.

Gentle And Quiet Spirit

Approved rendering: Ruux qaboobi oo deggan
Transliteration: ROOKH kah-BOH-bee oh DEG-gahn
Doctrine: Household Codes and Marriage Relationships
Rejected alternatives: an enforced-silencing reading isolated from 3:7’s dignity language
Original: πραῢ καὶ ἡσύχιον πνεῦμα
Category: Household Codes

New term for 1 Peter 3:4. Risk of reinforcing culturally-loaded expectations of female silence/submission beyond the text’s own framing; must retain surrounding co-heir dignity language.

Weaker Vessel

Approved rendering: Weel/qaab tabar-yar
Transliteration: WEHL/KAHB tah-bahr-YAR
Doctrine: Household Codes and Marriage Relationships
Rejected alternatives: a standalone rendering implying female inferiority without the co-heir clause
Original: ἀσθενέστερον σκεῦος
Category: Household Codes

Doctrine: Household Codes and Marriage Relationships

Rejected alternatives: Salaad (the five daily obligatory Islamic ritual prayers)

Rejected alternatives: a reading equating humility with weakness or loss of legitimate dignity

Category: Elders and Humility

New term for 1 Peter 3:8, 5:5-6. Runs directly against sharaf (honor/status) dynamics central to Somali social/clan culture; must be taught as Christlike strength, not social erasure.

Approved rendering: La xanuunsado xaqnimada aawadeed
Transliteration: lah khah-noon-SAH-doh khahk-nee-MAH-dah ah-wah-DEHD
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: conflating righteousness-as-received-status with suffering-as-earning-status
Original: πάσχειν διὰ δικαιοσύνην
Category: Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 3:14. Reuses baseline Xaqnimo (righteousness); righteousness remains received status by faith even while describing suffering incurred for righteous living.

Defense Reasoned Answer

Approved rendering: Difaac/Jawaab-celin
Transliteration: dee-FAHC/jah-WAHB-ceh-lin
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: unsolicited public proclamation framing, conflated with active evangelism
Original: ἀπολογία
Category: Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 3:15. Cross-reference baseline Critical-risk Evangelism handling: readiness to answer when asked is distinct from unsolicited proclamation, given the real danger of open religious speech in much of Somalia.

Baptism

Approved rendering: Baabtiiska
Transliteration: bahb-TEES-kah
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: wadaraysi/ghusl (Islamic ritual washing)
Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

New term for 1 Peter 3:21. Despite Peter’s own explicit disambiguation (‘not the removal of physical dirt but an appeal to God for a good conscience’), care is needed that Baabtiiska is not collapsed into ritual washing.

Will Of God

Approved rendering: Doonista Ilaah
Transliteration: doh-NEES-tah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Rejected alternatives: qaddar-style impersonal decree covering every outcome
Original: θέλημα Θεοῦ
Category: Holiness

New term for 1 Peter 4:2. Ties to baseline Providence caution; God’s purposive moral will for conduct, not fatalism.

Judge Of Living And Dead

Approved rendering: Kan xukumi doona kuwa nool iyo kuwa dhintay
Transliteration: kahn khoo-KOO-mee DOH-nah KOO-wah NOHL ee-yoh KOO-wah dhin-TAY
Doctrine: Final Judgment and Present Assurance
Rejected alternatives: assumed equivalence with Yawm al-Qiyaamah’s undetermined-outcome framework
Original: κρῖναι ζῶντας καὶ νεκρούς
Category: Eschatology

New term for 1 Peter 4:5. Shares surface similarity with the shared expectation of a final Day of Judgment, but 1 Peter frames it alongside assurance already secured for believers.

Gospel Preached To Dead

Approved rendering: Injiilka loo sheegay kuwii dhintay
Transliteration: in-JEEL-kah loh sheh-eh-GAY koo-WEE dhin-TAY
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: a confident single-reading paraphrase adopted without theologian review
Original: τοῖς νεκροῖς εὐηγγελίσθη
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

New term for 1 Peter 4:6. Reuses baseline Injiilka; the complexity here is exegetical (multiple scholarly readings exist) rather than primarily a translation-term risk; theologian review required before any confident lesson paraphrase.

Love Covers Sins

Approved rendering: Jacaylku wuxuu qariyaa dembiyo badan
Transliteration: jah-CAHYL-koo woo-KHOO kah-ree-YAH DEM-bee-yoh BAH-dahn
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Rejected alternatives: conflation with Xaq lagu caddeeyay / Xaqnimo loo xisaabiyay (the justification doctrines)
Original: ἡ ἀγάπη καλύπτει πλῆθος ἁμαρτιῶν
Category: Holiness

New term for 1 Peter 4:8, echoing Proverbs 10:12. Describes relational forbearance among believers, never a mechanism of atonement or forgiveness before God.

Fiery Trial

Approved rendering: Tijaabo/jirrabaad dab ah
Transliteration: tee-JAH-boh/jir-rah-BAHD DAHB ah
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: treating suffering as anomalous or surprising rather than expected
Original: πύρωσις
Category: Suffering

New term for 1 Peter 4:12, echoing the refining-fire metaphor of 1:7. Should be explicitly tied back to that earlier metaphor in teaching.

Share In Christs Sufferings

Approved rendering: Wadaaga dhibaatooyinka Masiixa
Transliteration: wah-DAH-gah dhee-bah-toh-yin-KAH mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: mere observation of Christ’s suffering rather than active participation
Original: κοινωνέω τοῖς παθήμασιν
Category: Suffering

New compound for 1 Peter 4:13, built on baseline Wadaaga (fellowship, ordinarily Low risk); elevate to High in this specific doctrinal application given genuine participation in Christ’s own suffering pattern.

Shameful Gain Domineering

Approved rendering: Faa’iido ceeb ah / Xukun xad-dhaaf ah
Transliteration: fah-EE-doh CEHB ah / khoo-KOON khahd-DHAHF ah
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: αἰσχροκερδῶς / κατακυριεύω
Category: Elders and Humility

New term for 1 Peter 5:2-3. Intersects with Somali honor-shame vocabulary (ceeb = shame/disgrace); the internal check against exploitative or coercive leadership.

Mighty Hand Of God

Approved rendering: Awoodda Ilaah (gacanta xoogga leh)
Transliteration: ah-WOHD-dah ee-LAHH (gah-CAHN-tah KHOHG-gah leh)

Doctrine: Grace
Original: ἀληθὴς χάρις τοῦ Θεοῦ

Medium Risk Terms

Peace

Approved rendering: Nabadda
Transliteration: nah-BAHD-dah
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: xeer (a clan truce or customary-law peace pact between groups)
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. Closes the letter’s benediction (1 Peter 5:14); retain relational, individual sense, not the inter-clan xeer sense.

Spiritual Gifts

Approved rendering: Hadiyado Ruuxa ah
Transliteration: hah-dee-YAH-doh ROO-khah ah
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: karaamad (a miraculous sign attributed to a Sufi sheekh or wali)
Original: χάρισμα
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter 4:10 paired with steward (oikonomos) language reinforcing gifts held in trust, not personal spiritual rank.

Prophecy

Approved rendering: Wax sii sheegidda
Transliteration: wahkh see sheh-eh-GID-dah

Lord Human

Approved rendering: Sayid
Transliteration: SAH-yid
Doctrine: Household Codes and Marriage Relationships
Rejected alternatives: Rabbiga (reserved exclusively for divine Lordship)
Original: κύριος (human, honorific)
Category: Household Codes

New term for 1 Peter. Sarah’s address of Abraham as ‘lord’ (3:6) is an ordinary human honorific, not a divine title; preserves the baseline’s own Rabbiga/Sayidka distinction by consistent application here in reverse.

Mercy

Approved rendering: Naxariis
Transliteration: nah-khah-REES
Doctrine: Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: Nimco (grace — a distinct, unmerited-favor concept that must not be conflated with mercy)
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation

New term for 1 Peter 1:3. Naxariis operates within a real, everyday Somali deeds-and-compassion framework (Allah’s naxariis toward the repentant); teaching must clarify Peter grounds new birth in God’s mercy AND sovereign initiative, not human repentance-then-mercy sequencing.

Imperishable Undefiled Unfading

Approved rendering: aan kharribmayn / aan wasakhoobin / aan gudbayn
Transliteration: ahn khah-rib-MAYN / ahn wah-sakh-oh-BIN / ahn good-BAYN

Rejected alternatives: nadiif-adjacent ritual-purity register for the ‘undefiled’ clause
Original: ἄφθαρτος / ἀμίαντος / ἀμάραντος
Category: Eschatology

New term for 1 Peter 1:4. Threefold quality of the believer’s reserved inheritance; ‘aan wasakhoobin’ (undefiled) must stay in its moral-relational sense, not the ritual-cleanliness register flagged for nadiif.

Guarded

Approved rendering: La ilaaliyo
Transliteration: lah ee-lah-LEE-yoh
Doctrine: Inheritance and Assurance of Salvation
Rejected alternatives: a single past act of protection rather than ongoing custody

Doctrine: Inheritance and Assurance of Salvation
Rejected alternatives: Ruux (reserved for Ruuxa Quduuska ah, the Holy Spirit)
Original: ψυχή
Category: Salvation

New term for 1 Peter 1:9, 4:19. Overlaps semantically with Islamic nafs; must be distinguished clearly from Ruux to avoid theological blending.

Desires Passions

Approved rendering: Damacyada
Transliteration: dah-MAHC-yah-dah
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Rejected alternatives: neutral, non-morally-loaded ‘desire’
Original: ἐπιθυμία

Purified Souls

Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Rejected alternatives: literal dietary instruction reading

Noah Ark

Transliteration: NOOKH / doh-NEE-dah
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: assuming full theological equivalence with the Qur’anic Nuux flood narrative
Original: Νῶε / κιβωτός
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

New term for 1 Peter 3:20. Nuux is a recognizable shared name with the Qur’anic Nuux, a real point of narrative common ground, though the Genesis flood-judgment/salvation theology differs somewhat.

Antitype

Approved rendering: u ekaanta / matalaadda
Transliteration: oo eh-KAHN-tah / mah-tah-LAHD-dah
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: forcing a single fixed technical term rather than explanatory prose

Transliteration: kah-boo-DID-dah sah-nahm-YAH-dah
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct

Doctrine: Providence and Casting Anxiety on God
Original: πιστὸς κτίστης
Category: God

New term for 1 Peter 4:19. Uumaha/Abuure (Creator) is an existing valid Somali term, appropriate here (unlike its rejection as a Father-substitute in the baseline); some resonance with the Islamic divine name Al-Khaaliq is expected.

Rejected alternatives: qaddar-style fatalistic ‘it was written for me’ framing

Low Risk Terms

Thanksgiving

Fellowship

Approved rendering: Wadaaga
Transliteration: wah-DAH-gah
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: walaaltinimo (brotherhood, often specifically clan-brotherhood)

Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly. In 1 Peter 4:13 (‘share in Christ’s sufferings’) the risk rating is elevated to High for that specific application — see ‘share_in_christs_sufferings’ below — while the base term’s own baseline rating is unchanged.

Rejected alternatives: requiring the literal gesture rather than an equivalent warm, appropriate Somali greeting convention
