Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Core Glossary

Core Glossary — 2 Corinthians

Destination Language: Somali

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from all thirteen chapters of 2 Corinthians. Terms marked (baseline reuse) carry forward the EXACT rendering already established in the Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json and must not be altered. Terms marked (new — proposed for translation memory) are specific to 2 Corinthians and are proposed here for addition to translation memory at the same risk tier and with the same enforcement discipline as baseline entries. All risk tiers follow the baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions (Critical / High / Medium / Low).

Direct collision risk with clan-lineage boasting (faanka qabiilka); Paul’s redirection to “boasting in the Lord” needs explicit teaching.

Critical Risk Terms

Righteousness

Approved rendering: Xaqnimo
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (good deeds, as the ground itself)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Load-bearing at 2 Corinthians 5:21, 6:14, 9:9-10. Never present as equivalent to camal wanaagsan; 5:21’s double-imputation climax is the single clearest place in this letter where the baseline’s Critical warning applies with full force.

Salvation

Approved rendering: Badbaado
Transliteration: bahd-BAH-doh
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: jannada gelid (entering paradise, as the whole content)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Present-tense reality at 2 Corinthians 1:6, 6:2 (‘now is the day of salvation’), 7:10; must not be diluted into deferred hope of jannada entry.

Lord

Approved rendering: Rabbiga
Transliteration: RAHB-bee-gah
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: sayidka (master/boss, non-divine)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:2-3; 4:5; 5:11; 13:14; never sayidka.

Messiah

Approved rendering: Masiixa
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: nabi kaliya (merely a prophet)
Original: Χριστός / מָשִׁיחַ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Corinthians; must carry full Davidic-covenant, atoning-savior content, never a bare ‘nabi’ reading.

Jesus

Approved rendering: Ciise
Transliteration: SEE-say
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Nabi Ciise’ (Prophet Jesus, without Masiixa)
Original: Ἰησοῦς / יֵשׁוּעַ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Always paired as Ciise Masiixa, never bare Ciise. Especially critical at 2 Corinthians 11:4 (‘another Jesus’), the passage most directly about the danger of a Ciise stripped of his full biblical identity.

God

Approved rendering: Ilaah
Transliteration: ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Eebe (a warmly familiar, invocation-style Somali term, e.g. ‘Eebow,’ but colloquial rather than the settled Bible-translation register), Alle (the direct Arabic loan)
Original: θεός / אֱלֹהִים / יהוה
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Corinthians; settled doctrinal term, never Eebe/Alle in doctrinal text.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:22; 3:3,6,8,17-18; 5:5; 13:13-14; never Jibriil. Co-occurs with Rabbiga and Ilaah in the closing trinitarian benediction (13:13-14), a concentrated point of Critical-tier term co-occurrence.

Father

Approved rendering: Aabbe
Transliteration: AH-beh
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Abuure (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:2-3 (‘Father of mercies’), 6:18; relational/adoptive sense, not literal-offspring implication.

Imputed Righteousness

Approved rendering: Xaqnimo loo xisaabiyay
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh loh khee-sah-bee-YAY
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: xaqnimo la kasbaday (earned righteousness)
Original: ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Pattern extended at 2 Corinthians 5:19,21 to imputed sin (see imputed_sin below): the xisaabin (reckon/credit) root must carry both directions of the double-imputation exchange.

Resurrection

Approved rendering: Sarakicidda
Transliteration: sah-rah-kee-CID-dah
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday (being raised up to heaven, without dying)
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 4:14; 5:15 (‘and was raised’); 13:4 (‘the power of his resurrection’). Must affirm real bodily death followed by bodily resurrection; never kor loo qaaday.

Reconciliation

Approved rendering: Dib-u-heshiisiin / la heshiisiiyay
Transliteration: dib oo hesh-ee-SEEN
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Rejected alternatives: la sulux gareeyay (a negotiated settlement between equals)
Original: καταλλαγή / καταλλάσσω
Category: Reconciliation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. Somali heshiis ordinarily denotes a negotiated truce (xeer) between two roughly equal human parties; God’s reconciliation is unilaterally initiated and accomplished by the offended party through Christ’s death, before any human response. Must never be taught as a mutual negotiation.

Be Reconciled

Approved rendering: Dib ula heshiisoo Ilaah / heshiisiisan la yeel Ilaah
Transliteration: dib oo-lah hesh-ee-SOH
Doctrine: Mission and the Ministry of Reconciliation
Rejected alternatives: any active-voice phrasing implying the hearer achieves reconciliation by their own effort
Original: καταλλάγητε
Category: Reconciliation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:20, the aorist passive imperative. Somali grammar can render a receptive/passive sense; must not be heard as instructing hearers to perform an act that itself earns restored standing. This is a direct proclamation/conversion appeal and is flagged for mandatory human theologian AND pastoral/physical-safety review, given the acute danger of open evangelism-adjacent appeals in parts of Somalia.

New Creation

Approved rendering: Abuurka Cusub
Transliteration: ah-BOOR-kah koo-SOON
Doctrine: New Creation in Christ
Rejected alternatives: dib loo abuuray sida hore (restored to an original, prior nature)
Original: καινὴ κτίσις
Category: New Creation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:17. Must not be assimilated to the Islamic concept of fitrah restored through tawbah (a return to an already-existing innate sinless nature). Paul’s claim is a wholly new creative act by God, parallel to Genesis creation, requiring explicit teaching support at first use.

Imputed Sin

Approved rendering: loo xisaabiyay (dembi) / lagu xisaabin waayay
Transliteration: loh khee-sah-bee-YAY
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Rejected alternatives: la ciqaabay dembiga (he was merely punished for sin)
Original: μὴ λογιζόμενος… τὰ παραπτώματα / ἁμαρτίαν ἐποίησεν
Category: Reconciliation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:19,21. Reuses the xisaabin (reckon/credit) root already established in baseline for imputed righteousness, preserving the double-imputation logic: our sin credited to Christ, his righteousness credited to us. Must not be flattened to bare cafis (forgiveness).

Veil

Approved rendering: Daboolka
Transliteration: dah-BOHL-kah
Doctrine: The Veil and Spiritual Perception
Rejected alternatives: xijaabka (the specific Islamic term for a woman’s religious veil/head-covering)
Original: κάλυμμα
Category: Covenant

New term. 2 Corinthians 3:13-16. ABSOLUTE FENCE: never xijaabka, which would create a severe, entirely unintended collision with a live, visible Islamic religious practice. This text concerns spiritual perception, never modesty dress.

Judgment Seat Of Christ

Approved rendering: Kursiga Xukunka Masiixa
Transliteration: KOOR-see-gah khoo-KOON-kah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation and the Judgment Seat of Christ
Rejected alternatives: any framing implying salvation status itself is determined here
Original: βῆμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Eschatology

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:10. Must be sharply distinguished from the Islamic Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah) framework and its mizan (scale of deeds); this is evaluation of ministry/reward for the already-saved, not a soteriological weighing.

Another Jesus Different Gospel

Approved rendering: Ciise kale / Injiil kale
Transliteration: SEE-say KAH-lay
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: ἄλλον Ἰησοῦν / ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Christology

New term. 2 Corinthians 11:4. Must reuse baseline Ciise Masiixa (never bare Ciise) and Injiilka exactly; this verse is precisely about the danger of a Ciise stripped of full biblical identity, the same risk baseline flags for the bare Qur’anic-prophet referent of Ciise alone. Mandatory human theologian review.

Power In Weakness

Approved rendering: Awoodda Ilaah ee ka muuqata itaal-darrida
Transliteration: ah-WOHD-dah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Power in Weakness
Rejected alternatives: fatalistic qaddar-style framing of chronic affliction, honor/shame framing of weakness as pure disgrace
Original: δύναμις… ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ
Category: Power in Weakness

New term (compound). 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. Two risks converge: Somali honor/shame culture can flatten weakness into pure disgrace; and chronic, unremoved affliction risks a qaddar-style fatalistic reading rather than the personal, purposive outworking of grace already guarded against by baseline’s Daryeelka Ilaah (Providence) doctrine. Central proof text of the named doctrine.

High Risk Terms

Gospel

Approved rendering: Injiilka
Transliteration: in-JEEL-kah
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: war wanaagsan (generic ‘good news’, without the proclamation weight)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Injiilka is shared with the Qur’anic name for the revelation given to Ciise, treated by Islamic doctrine as historically altered (tahriif); used here for Paul’s living proclamation, including its defense against ‘a different gospel’ at 2 Corinthians 11:4.

Grace

Approved rendering: Nimco
Transliteration: NIM-koh
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: naxariis (mercy/compassion), barako (blessing, often tied to a sheekh’s or saint’s spiritual potency)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Central to 2 Corinthians 8-9 (Generosity and Grace in Giving): giving must be taught as the fruit of grace already given, never a meritorious act comparable to zakat/sadaqa. Also appears in the closing trinitarian benediction, 13:13-14.

Faith

Approved rendering: Iimaan
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: rumaysad (generic belief/conviction)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:24 and 5:7 (‘we walk by faith, not by sight’); the object of faith (Christ) must remain explicit in context each time.

Apostle

Approved rendering: Diray
Transliteration: dee-RYE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: Rasuul (the specific Islamic title for Muhammad, ‘the Messenger of God’)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Corinthians (1:1; 11:5,13; 12:11-12) and central to the Genuine versus False Apostleship doctrine; never Rasuul.

Called

Approved rendering: Loo yeedhay
Transliteration: loh yeh-DHAI
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: la casuumay (invited, as to a social event)
Original: κλητός
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Context-sensitive per baseline usage; carries forward unchanged for any calling language in 2 Corinthians.

Calling

Approved rendering: Yeedhid
Transliteration: yeh-DHID
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: casuumaad
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Noun form; carried forward unchanged.

Holy

Approved rendering: Quduus
Transliteration: koo-DOOS
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: nadiif (ritually/physically clean)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Implicit at 2 Corinthians 1:1 (‘saints’) and throughout; moral/relational set-apartness, never ritual cleanliness.

Saints

Approved rendering: Quduusiinta
Transliteration: koo-doo-SEEN-tah
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: awliyada / wadaaddada (Sufi saints/sheekhs venerated at tombs during siyaaro pilgrimage)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:1; 8:4; 9:1,12; 13:12; corporate designation for all believers, never a Sufi wali/awliyada elite.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: Quduusnimo
Transliteration: koo-doos-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: nadiifin (ritual cleaning)
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 7:1 (‘let us perfect holiness’); never ritual cleaning.

Glory

Approved rendering: Ammaan
Transliteration: ah-MAHN
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nuur (divine light, associated with Sufi Nuurka Muxammed pre-existent-light devotion)
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Dense cluster at 2 Corinthians 3:7-11,18; 4:4,6,17; never nuur, especially important here because ch.3-4 is explicitly about radiant facial glory, the exact image-space where nuur associations would be strongest.

Sin

Approved rendering: Dembi
Transliteration: DEM-bee
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: qalad (mistake/error)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package. Central at 2 Corinthians 5:21 (Christ ‘made sin for us’) and 11:7; the sinlessness affirmation of 5:21a must be explicitly connected to the imputation clause that follows.

Power Of God

Approved rendering: Awoodda Ilaah
Transliteration: ah-WOHD-dah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: xoogga Ilaah (raw force, less precise for saving power)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 4:7; 6:7; 12:9; 13:4; core to the Power in Weakness doctrine when compounded (see power_in_weakness below); never xoog or qaddar-adjacent language.

Law

Approved rendering: Qaanuunka Muuse
Transliteration: kah-noon-kah MOO-say
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: Sharciga (the same word used for Islamic religious law/Sharia)
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. Background term for the letter/Spirit and old-covenant contrast in 2 Corinthians 3:6-18; never Sharciga, especially important since ch.3 is explicitly about a law-code’s inadequacy apart from the Spirit, a comparison a reader could misapply to Qur’anic sharia itself.

Ambassador

Approved rendering: Safiir
Transliteration: sah-FEER
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Rejected alternatives: wakiil hoose (a low-level representative/proxy, lacking delegated authority)
Original: πρεσβεύω
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:20. Somali safiir conveys official representation well but risks being read as a purely political/secular office; must be taught explicitly as God himself appealing through a designated human representative, not ordinary diplomacy.

Fear Of The Lord

Approved rendering: Ka cabsashada Rabbiga
Transliteration: kah cab-SHAH-dah RAHB-bee-gah
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘cabsi’ alone (could read as pure terror/dread)
Original: φόβος τοῦ Κυρίου
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:11. Rabbiga (baseline, non-negotiable) must be paired with reverential-awe vocabulary rather than bare cabsi, or the motivational logic linking to the judgment seat of Christ collapses into fatalistic dread. Carries an added physical-safety dimension since it motivates persuasive proclamation.

According To The Flesh

Approved rendering: Sida jidhka/dunida (loo eego)
Transliteration: SEE-dah JID-kah
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ
Rejected alternatives: literal ‘sida hilibka’ (according to the meat, losing evaluative sense)
Original: κατὰ σάρκα
Category: Christian Identity

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:16. Relativizes clan/status evaluation categories, including of Christ himself; in a society where clan lineage (qabiil) is a primary evaluative and protective category, this verse’s force must not be softened into an abstract point.

Comfort

Approved rendering: Qalbiqaboojin
Transliteration: qal-bee-qah-BOH-jin
Doctrine: Suffering and Comfort in Ministry
Rejected alternatives: tacsi (the bounded, custom-specific Somali funeral condolence visit)
Original: παράκλησις
Category: Suffering and Comfort

New term. 2 Corinthians 1:3-7; 7:6-7,13. Ongoing, ministry-empowering divine comfort, not a bounded social condolence custom; needs explicit teaching distinction from tacsi.

New Covenant

Approved rendering: Axdiga Cusub
Transliteration: AKH-dee-gah koo-SOON
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Rejected alternatives: framing that implies naskh-style correction/replacement of a flawed prior revelation
Original: διαθήκη καινή
Category: Covenant

New term (compound reuses baseline Axdiga root). 2 Corinthians 3:6,14. Risk: readers may map this contrast onto the Islamic doctrine of naskh; must be taught as promise/type/fulfillment, never abrogation-correction.

Old Covenant

Approved rendering: Axdiga Hore
Transliteration: AKH-dee-gah HOH-ray
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Original: (implied contrast, 3:14)
Category: Covenant

New term. 2 Corinthians 3:14. Paired term with Axdiga Cusub, established Somali Bible OT/NT naming convention; taught as fulfilled shadow, not abrogated error.

Letter Of The Law

Approved rendering: Xaraf
Transliteration: khah-RAHF
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Original: γράμμα
Category: Covenant

New term. 2 Corinthians 3:6. Written code apart from the Spirit’s life-giving work; risk of unintended parallel with debates over literal versus interpretive reading of the Qur’anic text.

God Of This Age

Approved rendering: ilaaha caalamkan (Shaydaanka)
Transliteration: ee-LAH-hah cah-lahm-KAHN
Doctrine: Deity of Christ and Divine Glory
Rejected alternatives: any phrasing implying a genuine second deity
Original: ὁ θεὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου
Category: God

New term. 2 Corinthians 4:4. A derisive title for Satan’s usurped, temporary influence over the present fallen order; must never suggest ditheism, a point of real sensitivity given tawhid’s absolute monotheism.

Image Of God

Approved rendering: U Ekaanta Ilaah
Transliteration: oo eh-KAHN-tah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ and Divine Glory
Rejected alternatives: any phrase implying a physical/venerable icon
Original: εἰκὼν τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Christology

New term. 2 Corinthians 4:4. Christ’s ontological correspondence to God’s own nature; must not be read through concerns about physical images/idols (Islamic aniconism), since the issue is deity, not iconography.

Light Illumination

Approved rendering: Iftiin
Transliteration: if-TEEN
Doctrine: Deity of Christ and Divine Glory
Rejected alternatives: nuur (Sufi Nuurka Muxammed pre-existent-light association)
Original: φωτισμός
Category: Gospel

New term. 2 Corinthians 4:4,6. Consistent avoidance of nuur extended from baseline’s glory caution; applies even to the negative ‘angel of light’ context (11:14).

Repentance

Approved rendering: Toobadkeenka
Transliteration: toh-BAHD-keen-kah
Doctrine: Sanctification and Godly Repentance
Original: μετάνοια
Category: Sanctification

New term. 2 Corinthians 7:9-10. Somali toobad is the standard Islamic term for repentance (tawbah), popularly understood within a ledger framework where the turning itself restores standing; no clean native alternative exists, so this must always be explicitly taught as Spirit-produced reorientation flowing from grace already given (Badbaado), never a self-generated act that merits forgiveness on its own.

Cheerful Giver

Approved rendering: bixiye faraxsan
Transliteration: bee-khee-YEH fah-rakh-SAHN
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Rejected alternatives: any framing that reads as obligatory, calculated giving (zakat-parallel)
Original: ἱλαρὸς δότης
Category: Giving

New term. 2 Corinthians 9:7. A direct doctrinal contrast point against zakat’s obligatory, fixed-percentage, deeds-credited character; joyful, uncompelled generosity is the doctrinal center of the passage and requires explicit teaching, not merely translation.

Testing Genuineness

Approved rendering: la tijaabiyay / la ansixiyay
Transliteration: tee-jah-BEE-yay
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: δοκιμή / δόκιμος / δοκιμάζω
Category: Apostleship

New term (dokimē word family). 2 Corinthians 2:9; 8:2,8,22; 9:13; 10:18; 13:3,5-7. Must be rendered consistently across all occurrences so students can trace this major structural argument of the letter.

Weapons Of Warfare

Approved rendering: hubka dagaalka ruuxa ah
Transliteration: hoob-kah dah-GAHL-kah
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and Boasting in the Lord
Rejected alternatives: any framing that could be read as endorsing literal armed conflict
Original: τὰ ὅπλα τῆς στρατείας
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4. Given Somalia’s decades of literal armed conflict, this metaphor carries acute risk of misappropriation toward literal violence unless its explicitly non-physical, rhetorical nature is stated every time it is taught.

Boasting

Approved rendering: Faan / Faanka
Transliteration: FAHN
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and Boasting in the Lord
Original: καυχάομαι / καύχησις
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 10:8,13,15-17; 11:16-30; 12:1-9. Direct collision risk with the deeply rooted Somali cultural pattern of clan-lineage boasting (faanka qabiilka, rooted in abtirsiimo genealogical recitation); Paul’s redirection of all boasting to the Lord (10:17) requires explicit, careful teaching, not a bare lexical swap.

Angel Of Light

Approved rendering: malaa’igta iftiinka
Transliteration: mah-LAH-ig-tah if-TEEN-kah
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: malaa’igta nuurka (importing Sufi Nuurka Muxammed association)
Original: ἄγγελος φωτός
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 11:14. Consistent avoidance of nuur extended even to this negative, deceptive context, so glossary discipline is never selectively relaxed.

Paradise Third Heaven

Approved rendering: Jannada (Samada Saddexaad)
Transliteration: jahn-NAH-dah
Doctrine: Paradise and Visionary Experience
Rejected alternatives: any systematic-eschatology framing beyond the passage’s own reticence
Original: παράδεισος / τρίτος οὐρανός
Category: Eschatology

New term. 2 Corinthians 12:2-4. Jannada is the only widely available term and is shared directly with the systematic Islamic doctrine of Paradise; must be explicitly taught as Paul’s own unusual, personal, deliberately understated visionary report, not a systematic description of the eternal state.

Signs And Wonders

Approved rendering: calaamooyin iyo yaabab
Transliteration: cah-lah-moh-YEEN
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: karaamad (Sufi sheekh/wali attributed miracle)
Original: σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα καὶ δυνάμεις
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 12:12. Apostolic-office authentication, not transferable personal spiritual potency comparable to Sufi sainthood; never karaamad.

Self Examination Disqualified

Approved rendering: isku tijaabiya / aan la ansixin
Transliteration: is-KOO tee-jah-BEE-yah
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: δοκιμάζετε / ἀδόκιμοι
Category: Apostleship

New term (dokimē family capstone). 2 Corinthians 13:5-7. The climactic, reflexive application of the whole-book testing theme onto the readers themselves; must be rendered consistently with testing_genuineness.

Obedience Of Christ

Approved rendering: Adeecidda Masiixa
Transliteration: ah-deh-CID-dah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Original: ὑπακοὴ τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Faith

New term (reuses baseline Adeecidda root from ‘obedience of faith,’ Romans 1:5). 2 Corinthians 10:5. Every thought brought into submissive obedience to Christ; obedience flowing from a relationship already secured by grace, not hufnaanta diinta (religious duty-performance).

Medium Risk Terms

Covenant

Approved rendering: Axdiga
Transliteration: AKH-dee-gah
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: ballan kaliya (bare appointment/promise, without covenantal weight)
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. Root for the Axdiga Cusub / Axdiga Hore pairing at 2 Corinthians 3:6,14; see new_covenant / old_covenant entries below.

Gentiles

Approved rendering: Quruumaha
Transliteration: koo-roo-MAH-hah
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: gaalada (unbelievers/infidels, an Islamic religious-legal category with strong pejorative force in Somali usage)
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Thematic background for the universal scope of reconciliation doctrine; never gaalada.

Church

Approved rendering: Kiniisadda
Transliteration: kee-nee-SAHD-dah
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: masjidka-shaped ‘jamaaco’ framing (mosque-congregation model)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:1; 8:1,18-19,23-24; 11:8,28; 12:13; distinct from masjid, and distinct from Macbudka Ilaah (temple of God, the new metaphorical term at 6:16).

Spiritual Gifts

Approved rendering: Hadiyado Ruuxa ah
Transliteration: hah-dee-YAH-doh ROO-khah ah
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: karaamad (a miraculous sign attributed to a Sufi sheekh or wali)
Original: χαρίσματα
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Thematic background for giving/serving in chapters 8-9; never karaamad.

David

Approved rendering: Daa’uud
Transliteration: dah-OOD
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: דָּוִד
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. Implicit covenant background for the Axdiga Cusub/Axdiga Hore contrast in 2 Corinthians 3.

Conscience

Approved rendering: Wacyiga
Transliteration: wach-YEE-gah
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Rejected alternatives: sharafta bulshada (public honor/reputation)
Original: συνείδησις
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:11; also 1:12; 4:2. Must be distinguished from sharaf (honor/public reputation), the stronger operative category in Somali social life; Paul appeals to an inward moral court, not merely public face.

Love Of Christ

Approved rendering: Jacayl (Masiixa)
Transliteration: jah-CAHL
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Reconciliation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:14; also 13:13. Somali jacayl is broad, covering romantic/familial love, and is not in baseline translation memory; every doctrinal use must be explicitly qualified as Christ’s/God’s self-giving love shown in his death, not romantic sentiment.

Compelling Love

Approved rendering: Qasbi (jacayl ku qasbay)
Transliteration: KAHS-bee
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Original: συνέχει
Category: Reconciliation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:14. Somali qasbi (compel/constrain) can sound coercive/negative; must be explicitly framed as loving constraint rather than forced obligation.

World Object Of Reconciliation

Approved rendering: Dunida
Transliteration: doo-NEE-dah
Doctrine: Universal Scope of Reconciliation
Original: κόσμος
Category: Reconciliation

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:19. Universal offer scope must not be quietly narrowed in surrounding teaching material, consistent with baseline’s caution against qabiil-hierarchy readings of ‘no distinction’ language.

Affliction Suffering

Approved rendering: Dhib / Dhibaato; Xanuun
Transliteration: dhib; kha-NOON
Doctrine: Suffering and Comfort in Ministry
Original: θλῖψις / πάθημα
Category: Suffering and Comfort

New term. 2 Corinthians 1:4-8; 4:17; 6:4-5; 11:23-27. Vocabulary is lexically clean; the elevated doctrinal weight (suffering as normative, not disfavor) is the real risk, not lexical collision.

Sincerity

Approved rendering: Daacadnimo
Transliteration: dah-cahd-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Original: ἁπλότης / εἰλικρίνεια
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 1:12; 2:17; 4:2; 11:3. Must be tracked consistently across all apostolic-authority passages so the letter’s structural argument about integrity-under-suspicion remains visible.

Seal Of The Spirit

Approved rendering: Shaabad
Transliteration: shah-BAHD
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: σφραγίς
Category: Sanctification

New term. 2 Corinthians 1:22. Somali commercial vocabulary for seals/stamps offers a workable bridge, but divine ownership must be made explicit, not read as a merely administrative mark.

Guarantee Deposit

Approved rendering: Dammaanad
Transliteration: dahm-mah-NAHD
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Original: ἀρραβών
Category: Assurance

New term. 2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5. Somali commercial deposit vocabulary provides a cultural bridge, but the eschatological ‘already/not yet’ nuance needs explicit unpacking so it is not read as merely commercial.

Triumphal Procession

Approved rendering: Socodka Guusha
Transliteration: soh-COD-kah GOO-shah
Doctrine: Deity of Christ and Divine Glory
Original: θριαμβεύω
Category: Christology

New term. 2 Corinthians 2:14. The specific Roman civic-triumph custom is culturally unfamiliar and requires explanatory unpacking; no direct doctrinal collision, but risk of the metaphor falling flat or being misread as literal warfare glory.

Fragrance Aroma

Approved rendering: Udgoon
Transliteration: ood-GOHN
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Original: ὀσμή / εὐωδία
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 2:14-16. Genuine cultural bridge via uunsi (incense) associations in Somali hospitality/worship culture; must stay tied to the metaphor of the gospel’s spread, not a literal ritual-incense reading.

Peddling The Word

Approved rendering: ereyga Ilaah faa’iido shakhsi ah loo dhigay
Transliteration: eh-RAY-gah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Original: καπηλεύω
Category: Apostleship

New term. 2 Corinthians 2:17. No single Somali word matches kapēleuō; the descriptive phrase must be taught as a fixed idiom-unit so the commercial-exploitation nuance is not lost or reduced to a generic ‘false teaching’ charge.

Transformed

Approved rendering: loo beddelo (habka joogtada ah)
Transliteration: loh bed-DEH-loh
Doctrine: Deity of Christ and Divine Glory
Rejected alternatives: folk metamorphosis/shapeshifting connotations
Original: μεταμορφούμεθα
Category: Sanctification

New term. 2 Corinthians 3:18. Progressive, Spirit-worked inward transformation into Christ’s likeness; must avoid folk-religious metamorphosis associations.

Ministry Service

Approved rendering: Adeeg / Adeegga
Transliteration: ah-DEHG
Doctrine: Christ-Centered Ministry
Rejected alternatives: generic humanitarian relief work framing
Original: διακονία
Category: Ministry

New term. 2 Corinthians 3:6-9; 4:1; 5:18; 6:3-4; 9:13; 11:8. Must retain gospel-proclamation content, not collapse into aid work, given the volume of international aid activity in the Somali context.

Treasure In Jars Of Clay

Approved rendering: khasnad ku jirta weelal dhoobo ah
Transliteration: khahs-NAHD
Doctrine: Power in Weakness
Original: θησαυρός ἐν ὀστρακίνοις σκεύεσιν
Category: Power in Weakness

New term. 2 Corinthians 4:7. Good cultural resonance with everyday pottery vessels; the contrast between fragile container and surpassing treasure must not be lost.

Inner Outer Man

Approved rendering: nafta gudaha / nafta dibadda
Transliteration: NAHF-tah goo-DAH-hah
Doctrine: Suffering and Comfort in Ministry
Rejected alternatives: simple, undifferentiated body/soul dualism
Original: ἔσω / ἔξω ἄνθρωπος
Category: Suffering and Comfort

New term. 2 Corinthians 4:16. Must be framed with enough nuance to avoid collapsing into simple body/soul dualism absent the passage’s renewal-through-suffering logic.

Weight Of Glory

Approved rendering: culeyska Ammaanta
Transliteration: koo-LAYS-kah ah-MAHN-tah
Doctrine: Suffering and Comfort in Ministry
Original: βάρος δόξης
Category: Suffering and Comfort

New term. 2 Corinthians 4:17. Must preserve the deliberate contrast with ‘light, momentary’ affliction; culays (heaviness) is ordinarily negative in Somali usage and here must be taught as positive weightiness worth carrying.

Tent Earthly Body

Approved rendering: teendho
Transliteration: teen-DHOH
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Original: σκῆνος
Category: Eschatology

New term. 2 Corinthians 5:1,4. The mortal body as a temporary dwelling awaiting a permanent one; should be connected explicitly to resurrection hope.

Unequally Yoked

Approved rendering: harqoodka aan sinnaanta lahayn
Transliteration: har-KOHD-kah
Doctrine: Church as God’s People and Temple
Rejected alternatives: narrowing the principle to marriage only
Original: ἑτεροζυγοῦντες
Category: Church

New term. 2 Corinthians 6:14. Good cultural resonance with the familiar Somali pastoral image of yoking oxen or camels; must be taught as a broad principle about spiritual partnership/alliance, not narrowed to marriage.

Temple Of God

Approved rendering: Macbudka Ilaah
Transliteration: mahc-BOOD-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Church as God’s People and Temple
Rejected alternatives: mosque-congregation (masjid) framing
Original: ναὸς Θεοῦ
Category: Church

New term. 2 Corinthians 6:16. The corporate (and individual) church as God’s dwelling place; must not import masjid architecture/associations, consistent with baseline’s caution on Kiniisadda.

Godly Sorrow

Approved rendering: calaacal Ilaah ku farxiya
Transliteration: cah-LAH-cahl
Doctrine: Sanctification and Godly Repentance
Original: λύπη κατὰ Θεόν
Category: Sanctification

New term. 2 Corinthians 7:9-11. Must preserve the sharp Pauline contrast between godly sorrow (leading to life) and worldly sorrow (leading to death).

Generosity Liberality

Approved rendering: Deeqsinimo
Transliteration: dayq-see-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Original: ἁπλότης (giving sense)
Category: Giving

New term. 2 Corinthians 8:2; 9:11,13. Shares its Greek root (haplotēs) with ‘sincerity’ (1:12); the character-connection between truthful speech and generous giving should be preserved in teaching notes.

Christ Became Poor

Approved rendering: wuxuu noqday saboolka
Transliteration: woo-KHOO nohk-DAY sah-BOHL-kah
Doctrine: Incarnation and Voluntary Poverty
Rejected alternatives: any phrasing implying a change in Christ’s fundamental divine nature/status
Original: ἐπτώχευσεν
Category: Christology

New term. 2 Corinthians 8:9. Must be explicitly connected to baseline Incarnation (Jidh qaadasho) as voluntary condescension by the truly rich, eternal, divine Son, never a change in his fundamental nature.

Equality Fair Balance

Approved rendering: Sinnaan
Transliteration: sin-NAHN
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Original: ἰσότης
Category: Giving

New term. 2 Corinthians 8:13-14. Principal risk is ensuring ‘equality’ is understood as a specific practical mutual-aid goal, not a general political-economic claim disconnected from the grace-giving frame.

Sowing And Reaping

Approved rendering: Beerid / Goosin
Transliteration: BAY-rid
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Rejected alternatives: deterministic, karma-style guarantee of proportional material return
Original: σπείρω / θερίζω
Category: Giving

New term. 2 Corinthians 9:6. Excellent cultural resonance with Somali agro-pastoral life; risk is the metaphor being misread as a mechanical, karma-like guarantee rather than God’s free, generous response to a generous heart.

Thorn In The Flesh

Approved rendering: qodax jidhka ku jirta
Transliteration: koh-DAHKH jid-KAH
Doctrine: Power in Weakness
Rejected alternatives: over-specifying the unspecified affliction
Original: σκόλοψ τῇ σαρκί
Category: Power in Weakness

New term. 2 Corinthians 12:7. Deliberately left unspecified by Paul; translation must preserve, not resolve, this ambiguity.

Holy Kiss

Approved rendering: dhunkasho quduus ah
Transliteration: dhoon-KAH-shoh koo-DOOS ah
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship and Greeting
Rejected alternatives: prescribing a literal, culturally inappropriate physical greeting
Original: φίλημα ἅγιον
Category: Church

New term. 2 Corinthians 13:12. Primarily a practical cultural-adaptation matter: teaching material should explain the custom’s affectionate, familial meaning rather than prescribe a literal, potentially culturally inappropriate cross-gender physical practice.

Low Risk Terms

Fellowship

Approved rendering: Wadaaga
Transliteration: wah-DAH-gah
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: walaaltinimo (brotherhood, often specifically clan-brotherhood)
Original: κοινωνία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 6:14; 8:4; 13:13-14; Christ-centered, not clan-bounded walaaltinimo.

Thanksgiving

Approved rendering: Mahadnaqid
Transliteration: mah-had-nah-KID
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2 Corinthians 1:11; 2:14; 4:15; 9:11-12; genuine, low-risk point of resonance.

Exhort

Approved rendering: Dhiirigelin
Transliteration: dhee-ree-geh-LEEN
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
