Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Galatians (Somali)
This glossary lists every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning all six chapters of Galatians. Terms already established in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked Baseline and MUST be reused exactly as recorded there — no alternative rendering is permitted. Terms new to this curriculum are marked New with a proposed Somali rendering, risk tier, and doctrine linkage, following the baseline’s risk-tier and collision-analysis conventions. This glossary feeds directly into an updated translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json for Phase 2.

Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: Xaqnimo
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (good deeds, as the ground itself)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 2:21 makes this the letter’s logical hinge: if righteousness came through the law, Christ’s death would be pointless.
Justification
Approved rendering: Xaq lagu caddeeyay
Transliteration: khahk lah-goo cah-DEH-yay
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: dembiyada la cafiyay (forgiveness of sins, alone)
Original: δικαιοῦμαι / δικαίωσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. The letter’s thesis term (2:16-17, 3:8, 3:11, 3:24, 5:4); never abbreviated to mere forgiveness (cafis).
Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: Xaqnimo loo xisaabiyay
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh loh khee-sah-bee-YAY
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: xaqnimo la kasbaday (earned righteousness)
Original: ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Identical to Romans 4:3’s use of Genesis 15:6, quoted again at Galatians 3:6.
Salvation
Approved rendering: Badbaado
Transliteration: bahd-BAH-doh
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: jannada gelid (entering paradise, as the whole content)
Inherited from Romans package. Provides the harmonization anchor for Galatians 5:4’s ‘fallen from grace’ warning, which targets a false law-gospel, not ordinary post-conversion failure; must not appear to contradict this Critical Assurance-of-Salvation doctrine.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Sarakicidda
Transliteration: sah-rah-kee-CID-dah
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday (being raised up to heaven, without dying)
Inherited from Romans package. Not a heavily quoted term in Galatians’ own text, but doctrinally presupposed by the gospel Paul defends in ch. 1 and by the crucifixion doctrine of 2:20; cross-reference ‘crucified_with_christ’.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Wiilka Ilaah
Transliteration: WEEL-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: addoonka jecel ee Ilaah (God’s beloved servant)
Original: Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 4:4 fuses this term directly with ‘sent’ and ‘born of a woman’ language in a single incarnational clause, sharpening the tawhid collision beyond Romans.
Father
Approved rendering: Aabbe
Transliteration: AH-beh
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Abuure (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 4:6 pairs this with the Spirit-produced Abba-cry, identical construction to Romans 8:15.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: Jidh qaadasho
Transliteration: JID kah-dah-SHOH
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: Ilaah oo u ekaaday nin (God merely appearing to look like a man)
Original: γενόμενον ἐκ γυναικός, γενόμενον ὑπὸ νόμον
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 4:4’s ‘born of a woman, born under the law’ affirms both real historical birth and voluntary submission to the very law from which the Son redeems others.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / πνεῦμα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 3-6 concentrates dense Spirit-language (receiving the Spirit by faith, walking by the Spirit, fruit of the Spirit); must be explicitly re-taught as God himself at first occurrence in each Galatians lesson.
Lord
Approved rendering: Rabbiga
Transliteration: RAHB-bee-gah
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: sayidka (master/boss, non-divine)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Used in the closing benediction, ‘our Lord Jesus Christ’ (6:18).
Jesus
Approved rendering: Ciise
Transliteration: SEE-say
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Nabi Ciise’ (Prophet Jesus, without Masiixa)
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians pairs Ciise with Masiixa at especially high frequency (nearly every chapter); never left bare in doctrinally significant contexts.
God
Approved rendering: Ilaah
Transliteration: ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Eebe (devotional/invocational register), Alle (direct Arabic loan)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package.
Messiah
Approved rendering: Masiixa
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: nabi kaliya (merely a prophet)
Inherited from Romans package. Every use of Masiixa in Galatians must carry its full Davidic-covenant, atoning-savior content, especially given the letter’s redefinition of Abraham’s true heirs around faith in Masiixa (3:16, 3:29).
Another Gospel
Approved rendering: Injiil Kale
Transliteration: in-JEEL kah-LEH
Doctrine: The True Gospel versus False Gospels
Rejected alternatives: Injiil labaad (a second gospel, implies two legitimate options)
Original: ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Must never be phrased so as to suggest two legitimate gospels exist. Pair consistently with counterfeit-framing language in surrounding teaching text, never let it stand as a bare noun phrase implying a second legitimate option (Galatians 1:6-9).
Accursed
Approved rendering: Habaar (ha habaarnaado)
Transliteration: hah-BAHR (hah hah-bahr-NAH-doh)
Doctrine: The True Gospel versus False Gospels
Rejected alternatives: qalad (mistake, far too weak), khaldan (wrong, loses judicial severity)
Original: ἀνάθεμα
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Paul’s most severe possible warning (1:8-9), twice repeated, applied even to an apostle or angel. Must preserve full judicial severity; must not be read as an ordinary interpersonal Somali habaar (folk curse).
Revelation
Approved rendering: Muujinta Ilaah
Transliteration: moo-JIN-tah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Paul’s Apostleship / Inspiration and Revelation
Rejected alternatives: wax sii sheegidda (baseline term for predictive prophecy)
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Revelation
CRITICAL: Distinct from predictive prophecy. Paul’s claim of direct, unmediated reception from Christ (1:11-12, 1:16) bears on tahriif suspicion and on the largely oral, non-text-first relationship to scripture common among Somali readers; render as God’s own unveiling, not a secondhand human report.
Fallen From Grace
Approved rendering: ka dhicid nimcada
Transliteration: kah DHEE-cid nim-CAH-dah
Doctrine: Warning Against Forfeiting Grace
Original: τῆς χάριτος ἐξεπέσατε
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Galatians 5:4. Must be framed as a warning against adopting a false, law-righteousness gospel, not as contradicting the baseline’s Critical Assurance-of-Salvation doctrine. Requires theologian-level harmonization across the Romans and Galatians curricula.
Faith In Christ
Approved rendering: Iimaanka lagu qabo Ciise Masiixa
Transliteration: ee-MAHN-kah LAH-goo KAH-boh SEE-say mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Justification by Faith / Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Iimaan’ without a stated object
Original: πίστις Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ / πίστις τοῦ Υἱοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Faith
Galatians 2:16, 2:20. Combines the High-risk Faith doctrine with the Critical Justification and Sonship doctrines; the objective-genitive convention keeps the object of faith explicit.
Works Of The Law
Approved rendering: Shuqullada Qaanuunka
Transliteration: shoo-KOOL-lah-dah kah-NOON-kah
Doctrine: Justification by Faith / Law and Grace
Rejected alternatives: camal wanaagsan (generic good deeds, blurs Paul’s specific target)
Original: ἔργα νόμου
Category: Law
CRITICAL: Galatians 2:16, 3:2, 3:5, 3:10. Must be kept lexically distinct from the baseline’s generic ‘camal wanaagsan’, since Paul’s target is specifically Mosaic-law observance, not deeds-in-general. Pairs with Qaanuunka Muuse.
Crucified With Christ
Approved rendering: Waxaan Masiixa lagu iskutallaabeeyay
Transliteration: wah-KHAHN mah-SEE-khah LAH-goo is-koo-tah-lah-beh-YAY
Doctrine: Crucified with Christ
Rejected alternatives: la geeriyoodsiiyay (generalized ‘made to die’, loses the specific method)
Original: συνεσταύρωμαι
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Galatians 2:20. Qur’an 4:157 explicitly denies Ciise was crucified. Arguably the sharpest single doctrinal collision in the whole letter — sharper than the resurrection issue, since it denies the method of death itself. Never softened, generalized to ‘suffering’, or omitted.
Cross
Approved rendering: Iskutallaabta
Transliteration: is-koo-tah-LAHB-tah
Doctrine: Crucified with Christ
Original: σταυρός / σταυρόω
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Every occurrence (2:20, 3:1, 3:13, 5:11, 5:24, 6:12, 6:14) must be routed to human theologian review.
Flesh Ethical
Approved rendering: damaca jidhka
Transliteration: dah-MAH-cah JEEDH-kah
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Rejected alternatives: jidh alone (loses the moral-corruption marker)
Original: σάρξ
Category: Sanctification
CRITICAL: Galatians 5:13-24. Sin-inclined human nature opposed to the Spirit, the controlling antithesis of chapter 5. See the letter-wide sarx polysemy note.
Fruit Of Spirit
Approved rendering: Midhaha Ruuxa
Transliteration: MID-hah-hah ROO-khah
Doctrine: Fruit of the Spirit
Original: καρπὸς τοῦ Πνεύματος
Category: Sanctification
CRITICAL: Galatians 5:22-23. ‘Ruuxa’ here must be understood as the Holy Spirit (baseline term); the works/fruit contrast with Shuqullada Jiidhka must be lexically preserved.
Faith Working Through Love
Approved rendering: Iimaan oo jacayl ku shaqeeya
Transliteration: ee-MAHN oh jah-CAHL koo shah-KHEH-yah
Doctrine: Faith Working through Love
Original: πίστις δι’ ἀγάπης ἐνεργουμένη
Category: Faith
CRITICAL: Galatians 5:6. The letter’s positive summary of authentic Christian life; must not be read as reintroducing a performance-based righteousness.
Freedom
Approved rendering: Xorriyadda
Transliteration: khor-ree-YAHD-dah
Doctrine: Freedom in Christ
Original: ἐλευθερία
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Galatians 2:4, 5:1, 5:13. Must be distinguished both from mere social/political liberty (the word carries strong 20th-century independence-era connotations in Somali) and from libertinism, which Paul himself warns against in the same chapter.
Circumcision
Approved rendering: Gudniinka
Transliteration: good-NEEN-kah
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation
Original: περιτομή
Category: Covenant
CRITICAL: Galatians 2:3-5, 5:2-12, 6:12-15. A near-universal Somali social-religious practice tied to Muslim identity and communal belonging. The doctrinal point (irrelevant to salvation; imposing it as a requirement is a false gospel) must be preserved fully while never being framed as a blanket call to abandon the cultural practice, or conflated with the separate, non-biblical practice of female genital cutting. Route every occurrence to human theologian review.
New Creation
Approved rendering: Abuurka Cusub
Transliteration: ah-BOOR-kah coo-SOOB
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation
Original: καινὴ κτίσις
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Galatians 6:15. The letter’s positive doctrinal answer to the circumcision controversy; requires the same theologian handling as the circumcision entry it directly resolves.
Blessing Of Abraham
Approved rendering: Barakada
Transliteration: bah-rah-KAH-dah
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Rejected alternatives: barako without explicit distinguishing note (Sufi lineage/tomb-transmitted spiritual potency)
Original: εὐλογία
Category: Covenant
CRITICAL: Galatians 3:8-9, 3:14. Requires an explicit distinguishing teaching note on every occurrence: God’s direct gift received by faith in Christ alone, categorically different from barako transmitted through a human intermediary’s spiritual status or grave.
Curse
Approved rendering: Habaarka
Transliteration: hah-BAHR-kah
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise / Crucified with Christ
Original: κατάρα
Category: Covenant
CRITICAL: Galatians 3:10-13. Foundational to Christ becoming a curse in believers’ place; directly tied to the crucifixion doctrine and inherits that entry’s Qur’anic-denial collision. Fence to the specific judicial sense, not everyday folk-curse vocabulary.
Redemption
Approved rendering: Madaxfurasho
Transliteration: mah-dahkh-foo-RAH-shoh
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise / Freedom in Christ
Original: ἐξαγοράζω
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL: Galatians 3:13, 4:5. Genuine cultural bridge via Somali mag/diya blood-compensation custom, but must be taught as a once-for-all, divinely-initiated, unilateral and gracious payment, not a negotiated inter-clan settlement.
Elemental Spirits
Approved rendering: Waxyaabaha Aasaasiga ah ee Aduunka
Transliteration: wahkh-yah-BAH-hah ah-sah-SEE-gah ah eh ah-DOON-kah
Doctrine: Bondage to the Elemental Principles of the World
Rejected alternatives: ruuxyada aasaasiga ah (would use explicit ‘spirit’ wording and risk jinn-cosmology conflation)
Original: τὰ στοιχεῖα τοῦ κόσμου
Category: Covenant
CRITICAL: Galatians 4:3, 4:9. Deliberately avoids any ‘spirit’ wording to prevent conflation with the strong jinn/spirit-world substrate in Somali folk-Islamic belief; the spiritual-powers question is confined to teaching notes.
Hagar
Approved rendering: Haajar
Transliteration: hah-JAHR
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Original: Ἄγαρ
Category: Covenant
CRITICAL: Galatians 4:21-31. Hagar and her son Ismaaciil hold deep positive significance in Islamic tradition. Paul’s negative allegorical casting of this line is a major potential offense point; must be framed strictly as Paul’s literary/typological argument about covenant categories, never as a verdict on any person’s or people’s worth. Mandatory theologian review.
All One In Christ
Approved rendering: (phrase-level rendering, no single-word equivalent)
Transliteration: n/a — phrase-level
Doctrine: Unity of All in Christ (Jew, Gentile, Slave, Free, Male, Female)
Original: πάντες…εἷς ἐστε ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ
Category: Church
CRITICAL: Galatians 3:26-29. Given how thoroughly qabiil (clan) structures Somali identity, this ‘no distinction’ claim carries explosive social force, sharpened further by also naming slave/free and male/female categories, both live Somali social-structuring categories.
Gave Himself For Me
Approved rendering: isagoo naftiisa u bixiyay aawaday
Transliteration: ee-SAH-goh nahf-TEE-sah oo bee-khee-YAY ah-WAH-dye
Doctrine: Crucified with Christ
Rejected alternatives: generic self-sacrifice devoid of atoning purpose
Original: παραδόντος ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Galatians 2:20. Substitutionary self-giving grounded in personal love; directly connected to the curse/redemption doctrine of 3:13.
Died In Vain
Approved rendering: Masiixu wuxuu u dhintay si aan micno lahayn
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khoo woo-KHOO oo DHIN-tay see AHN MEEK-noh lah-HAYN
Doctrine: Justification by Faith / Crucified with Christ / Law and Grace
Original: Χριστὸς δωρεὰν ἀπέθανεν
Category: Christology
CRITICAL: Galatians 2:21. Ties together crucifixion, grace, and justification in a single clause; must preserve the full logical force of the conditional warning.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: Injiilka
Transliteration: in-JEEL-kah
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: war wanaagsan (generic ‘good news’, without the proclamation weight)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Injiilka is the established Somali term, shared with the Qur’anic name for the revelation given to Ciise, treated by Islamic doctrine as historically altered (tahriif). In Galatians, sharply contrasted with ‘Injiil Kale’ (another/false gospel); ‘Injiilka’ itself must never appear qualified or contested in this letter’s polemical passages (1:6-9), which would reinforce tahriif suspicion.
Grace
Approved rendering: Nimco
Transliteration: NIM-koh
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: naxariis (mercy/compassion), barako (blessing, tied to a sheekh’s or saint’s spiritual potency)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians intensifies the grace-versus-works antithesis into the letter’s explicit thesis (2:21, 5:4); never glossed with barako or naxariis.
Faith
Approved rendering: Iimaan
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: rumaysad (generic belief/conviction)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians repeatedly contrasts iimaan with ‘works of the law’; the object of faith (Ciise Masiixa) must always be stated explicitly.
Apostle
Approved rendering: Diray
Transliteration: dee-RYE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: Rasuul (the specific Islamic title for Muhammad, ‘the Messenger of God’)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 1-2 mounts an extended, polemical defense of Paul’s apostolic authority as directly Christ-given, heightening exposure to the Rasuul-collision risk beyond Romans’ passing self-identification.
Called
Approved rendering: Loo yeedhay
Transliteration: loh yeh-DHAI
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: la casuumay (invited, as to a social event)
Original: καλέσας / κλητός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In Galatians 1:6 = called to the gospel; 1:15 = called to apostleship; 5:8, 5:13 = called to freedom. Context-sensitive per baseline rule.
Calling
Approved rendering: Yeedhid
Transliteration: yeh-DHID
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: casuumaad
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Retained for cross-document consistency with Romans.
Law
Approved rendering: Qaanuunka Muuse
Transliteration: kah-noon-kah MOO-say
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy / Law and Grace
Rejected alternatives: Sharciga (the same word used for Islamic religious law/Sharia)
Original: νόμος
Category: Law
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians’ sustained, five-chapter law/grace antithesis raises the oral-substitution risk of listeners mentally hearing ‘Sharciga’; ‘Muuse’ must be appended without exception.
Sin
Approved rendering: Dembi
Transliteration: DEM-bee
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: qalad (mistake/error)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 3:22’s claim that Scripture ‘imprisoned everything under sin’ resists the fitrah (born-sinless) doctrine even more directly than Romans 5:12-19.
Glory
Approved rendering: Ammaan
Transliteration: ah-MAHN
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nuur (divine light, associated with Sufi Nuurka Muxammed pre-existent-light devotion)
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Appears in the opening doxology, Galatians 1:5.
Adoption
Approved rendering: Sheegasho carruurnimo
Transliteration: sheh-eh-GAH-shoh car-oor-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: sheegad kaliya (bare clan-incorporation term, without the full-inheritance qualifier)
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Identical Greek term (huiothesia) to Romans 8:15/8:23, now Galatians 4:5; the same sheegad cultural-bridge caution and full-inheritance qualifier apply.
Abba
Approved rendering: Abbaa
Transliteration: ah-BAH
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Inherited from Romans package. Retained untranslated at Galatians 4:6, identical to Romans 8:15.
Providence
Approved rendering: Daryeelka Ilaah
Transliteration: dar-YEHL-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: qaddar (fate/decree), waa la iga qoray-style fatalistic idiom
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies the new Galatians-specific term ‘fullness_of_time’ (Buuxnaanta Wakhtiga, Galatians 4:4), God’s sovereign, purposive timing for sending the Son.
Set Apart
Approved rendering: gooni ii dhigay
Transliteration: GOH-nee ee dhee-GYE
Doctrine: Paul’s Apostleship / Separation unto God’s Service
Original: ἀφορίσας
Category: Sanctification
Echoes OT prophetic-call language (Galatians 1:15); must not be confused with Sufi ascetic withdrawal or a wadaad’s trained, ritual-specialist status.
Angel
Approved rendering: Malaa’igta
Transliteration: mah-LAH-ig-tah
Doctrine: The True Gospel versus False Gospels / Revelation
Original: ἄγγελος
Category: Revelation
Galatians 1:8 subordinates even angelic authority to the true gospel; 3:19 involves angels in mediating the law’s giving. Directly touches Islamic angel-mediated revelation tradition (Jibriil to Muhammad); requires careful, non-confrontational framing.
Hearing Of Faith
Approved rendering: Maqalka Iimaanka
Transliteration: mah-KAHL-kah ee-MAHN-kah
Doctrine: Justification by Faith / The Law’s Purpose
Original: ἀκοὴ πίστεως
Category: Faith
Galatians 3:2, 3:5. Contrasted repeatedly with ‘works of the law’; must be kept distinct from ritual or performative religious hearing.
Faithfulness Fruit
Approved rendering: Aaminnimo
Transliteration: ah-min-NEE-moh
Doctrine: Fruit of the Spirit
Rejected alternatives: Iimaan (would wrongly collapse saving faith into one Spirit-produced character trait among nine)
Original: πίστις
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 5:22. Distinct sense of the same Greek word (pistis) rendered ‘Iimaan’ elsewhere; must be rendered distinctly as Aaminnimo (reliability/trustworthiness of character).
Law Of Christ
Approved rendering: Qaanuunka Masiixa
Transliteration: kah-NOON-kah mah-SEE-khah
Doctrine: Faith Working through Love / Bearing One Another’s Burdens
Original: ὁ νόμος τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Law
Galatians 6:2. Must be carefully distinguished from Qaanuunka Muuse and from any suggestion of a new merit-earning legal code; teach as the love-ethic flowing from grace (5:6, 5:14).
Guardian
Approved rendering: Ilaaliyaha
Transliteration: ee-lah-lee-YAH-hah
Doctrine: The Law’s Purpose
Rejected alternatives: macalinka (benign teacher, understates the custodial/disciplinary force)
Original: παιδαγωγός
Category: Law
Galatians 3:24-25 (paidagōgos). Must avoid a rendering suggesting a kindly teacher while also avoiding a rendering implying the law was worthless rather than temporarily purposeful.
Died To Law
Approved rendering: Waan dhintay
Transliteration: wahn DHIN-tay
Doctrine: Crucified with Christ
Original: νόμῳ ἀπέθανον
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 2:19. Metaphorical severance from the law’s condemning power; must be clearly taught as metaphorical and carefully sequenced with 2:20’s literal crucifixion language so the two are not blurred.
Christ Lives In Me
Approved rendering: Masiixa ayaa igu jira
Transliteration: mah-SEE-khah ah-YAH ee-goo JEE-rah
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ
Original: ζῇ ἐν ἐμοὶ Χριστός
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 2:20. Extends the baseline’s Christian Identity in Christ doctrine; identity relocated from qabiil (clan) to union with the risen Christ.
Flesh Bodily
Approved rendering: jidh
Transliteration: JEEDH
Doctrine: Incarnation / Christology
Original: σάρξ
Category: Christology
Galatians 2:20’s ‘life I now live in the flesh’ — neutral, ordinary bodily existence, one of at least four distinct senses of sarx in this letter. Kept distinct from the ethical sense (damaca jidhka).
Flesh Generic
Approved rendering: cid … ah / bini’aadan
Transliteration: SEED ah / bee-nee AH-dahn
Doctrine: Justification by Faith (anthropology)
Rejected alternatives: damaca jidhka (would wrongly import the ethical/moral-corruption sense into a generic-humanity idiom)
Original: πᾶσα σάρξ
Category: Anthropology
Galatians 2:16’s ‘no flesh’ (pasa sarx), a Hebraic idiom for ‘no human being’. Must never be rendered with the same word chosen for the ethical flesh of chapter 5.
Desires Of Flesh
Approved rendering: damacyada jidhka
Transliteration: dah-mahc-YAH-dah JEEDH-kah
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Original: ἐπιθυμία σαρκός
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 5:16-17. Consistent lexical family with damaca jidhka; retain the moral-corruption marker across every occurrence.
Works Of Flesh
Approved rendering: Shuqullada Jiidhka
Transliteration: shoo-KOOL-lah-dah JEEDH-kah
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Original: ἔργα τῆς σαρκός
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 5:19-21 vice list. The works/fruit contrast with ‘Midhaha Ruuxa’ carries theological weight and must be preserved lexically.
Sorcery
Approved rendering: Sixir
Transliteration: SEE-khir
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Original: φαρμακεία
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 5:20. Sixir accusations carry serious real-world social consequences (exclusion, violence) in Somali communities; render accurately for Paul’s vice-list item without amplifying local sixir-related social tensions. Native-speaker pastoral review recommended alongside theologian review.
Walk By Spirit
Approved rendering: Ku soco Ruuxa
Transliteration: koo SOH-coh ROO-khah
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit / Fruit of the Spirit
Original: Πνεύματι περιπατεῖτε / στοιχῶμεν
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 5:16, 5:25. Ongoing, Spirit-directed conduct, not a one-time decision.
Love
Approved rendering: Jacayl
Transliteration: jah-CAHL
Doctrine: Faith Working through Love / Fruit of the Spirit
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Sanctification
Galatians 5:6, 5:13-14, 5:22. Standard Somali word carries strong everyday romantic-love connotation; no viable substitute exists, so every doctrinally load-bearing occurrence requires a first-use teaching clarification of the selfless, covenantal biblical sense.
Slavery
Approved rendering: Addoonimada
Transliteration: ah-doh-nee-MAH-dah
Doctrine: Freedom in Christ
Original: δουλεία
Category: Salvation
Galatians 4:1-9, 5:1. Must be kept within Paul’s spiritual-bondage argument and distinguished pastorally from discussions of literal historical slavery.
Promise
Approved rendering: Ballanqaadka
Transliteration: bah-lahn-KAHD-kah
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Original: ἐπαγγελία
Category: Covenant
Galatians 3:14-18, 3:29, 4:28. Distinct from, though related to, Axdiga (covenant); the specific content pledged within the relationship.
Abraham
Approved rendering: Ibraahim
Transliteration: ib-rah-HEEM
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Original: Ἀβραάμ
Category: Covenant
Galatians 3:6-9, 3:29. A towering, deeply venerated figure in Islamic tradition (‘millat Ibrahim’). Paul’s claim that Abraham’s true heirs are defined by faith, not bloodline or rite, directly reframes a shared patriarch. Route to human theologian review.
Seed Offspring
Approved rendering: Farcanka
Transliteration: FAR-cahn-kah
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Original: σπέρμα
Category: Covenant
Galatians 3:16, 3:29. Reuses the root of the baseline’s seed_of_david (Farcanka Daa’uud). Paul’s singular/collective wordplay does not carry natively into Somali ‘farac’ and needs an explicit teaching note.
Heir
Approved rendering: Dhaxal-yahan
Transliteration: DHAH-khahl yah-HAHN
Doctrine: Adoption and Sonship
Original: κληρονόμος
Category: Salvation
Galatians 3:29, 4:1, 4:7. Strong cultural resonance given the seriousness of inheritance rights in Somali clan/family law; requires the same full-inheritance qualifier as the baseline’s adoption entry.
Allegory
Approved rendering: Waxaa loo fasiran karaa si tusaale ah
Transliteration: wah-KHAH loh fah-see-RAHN kah-RAH see too-SAH-leh ah
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Rejected alternatives: ta’wiil-style esoteric-interpretation framing
Original: ἀλληγορούμενα
Category: Covenant
Galatians 4:24. Framed as typological pattern-fulfillment, not esoteric reinterpretation, given mainstream and Salafi-influenced Somali suspicion of ta’wil-associated method.
Baptized Into Christ
Approved rendering: Baabtiiska
Transliteration: bahb-TEES-kah
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation / Christian Identity in Christ
Rejected alternatives: wadaraysi/ghusl-style ritual-washing framing
Original: εἰς Χριστὸν ἐβαπτίσθητε
Category: Church
Galatians 3:27. Established Somali Christian loanword; must be clearly taught as identification with Christ, not ritual purification comparable to Islamic ghusl or wudu.
Judaize
Approved rendering: U dhaqmid sida Yuhuudda
Transliteration: oo DHAHKH-mid SEE-dah yoo-HOOD-dah
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation / Law and Grace
Original: Ἰουδαΐζειν
Category: Covenant
Galatians 2:14. Peter’s inconsistency in pressuring Gentile believers to adopt Jewish ceremonial-identity markers; ties directly to the circumcision controversy.
Corruption
Approved rendering: Halligaad
Transliteration: hah-lee-GAHD
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit (eschatological harvest)
Original: φθορά
Category: Eschatology
Galatians 6:8. Must retain the eschatological, not merely this-worldly, weight of the term, as the direct negative counterpart to eternal life in the same verse.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: Nolosha Weligeed ah
Transliteration: noh-LOH-shah weh-lee-GEHD ah
Doctrine: Fruit of the Spirit / Salvation (extended)
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology
Galatians 6:8. Like the baseline’s salvation entry, must be taught as a certain present-and-future reality secured in Christ, not a deferred, undetermined hope comparable to entering jannada.
Israel Of God
Approved rendering: Israa’iilka Ilaah
Transliteration: is-rah-EEL-kah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Unity of All in Christ
Original: Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Covenant
Galatians 6:16. Extends the baseline’s Israel entry (Medium) to High given the added theological weight of the ‘true Israel’ fulfillment claim; handle with the same geopolitical-sensitivity awareness the baseline notes.
Nullify
Approved rendering: ma tirtiro / ma buriyo
Transliteration: mah teer-TEE-roh / mah boo-REE-yoh
Doctrine: Law and Grace
Original: ἀθετῶ
Category: Salvation
Galatians 2:21. Must clearly negate, not affirm, nullification of God’s grace.
Medium Risk Terms
Gentiles
Approved rendering: Quruumaha
Transliteration: koo-roo-MAH-hah
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: gaalada (unbelievers/infidels, an Islamic religious-legal category with strong pejorative force)
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Central to the letter’s pastoral concern for Gentile believers’ freedom from law-observance.
Covenant
Approved rendering: Axdiga
Transliteration: AKH-dee-gah
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant / Abrahamic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: ballan kaliya (bare appointment/promise, without covenantal weight)
Inherited from Romans package. Distinct from, though related to, the new term ‘Ballanqaadka’ (promise) — the covenant is the relationship; the promise is the specific content pledged within it (Galatians 3:15-18).
Peace
Approved rendering: Nabadda
Transliteration: nah-BAHD-dah
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: xeer (a clan truce or customary-law peace pact between groups)
Original: εἰρήνη

Church
Approved rendering: Kiniisadda
Transliteration: kee-nee-SAHD-dah
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: masjidka-shaped ‘jamaaco’ framing (mosque-congregation model)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Used of ‘the churches of Galatia’ (1:2) and Paul’s persecuting/founding narrative (1:13, 1:22).
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Boqortooyada Ilaah
Transliteration: boh-kor-toh-YAH-dah ee-LAHH
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: dawladda Ilaah (God’s state/government)
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package. Galatians 5:21: those practicing the works of the flesh ‘will not inherit’ it. Never ‘dawladda’.
Israel
Approved rendering: Israa’iil
Transliteration: is-rah-EEL
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Inherited from Romans package. Extended in Galatians 6:16 to the new term ‘israel_of_god’ (Israa’iilka Ilaah), elevated to High risk for the added ‘true Israel’ fulfillment claim.
Judaism
Approved rendering: Diinta Yuhuudda
Transliteration: DEEN-tah yoo-HOOD-dah
Doctrine: Paul’s Apostleship (biographical)
Original: Ἰουδαϊσμός
Category: Covenant

Transliteration: wahkh-TEE-gahn khoon eh JEE-rah
Doctrine: Eschatology / Gospel
Original: ὁ αἰὼν ὁ ἐνεστὼς ὁ πονηρός

Transliteration: dheh-dheh-khah-DEE-yeh
Doctrine: The Law’s Purpose / Abrahamic Covenant
Original: μεσίτης

Transgressor
Approved rendering: Xadgudbaha
Transliteration: khahd-GOOD-bah-hah
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Original: παραβάτης
Category: Sin
Galatians 2:18. Returning to law-works after having died to the law would itself constitute transgression.
Servant Of Sin
Approved rendering: Adeegga dembiga
Transliteration: ah-DEHG-gah DEM-bee-gah

Original: ἁμαρτίας διάκονος
Category: Sin
Galatians 2:17. Must preserve the rhetorical force of the following emphatic denial (‘Certainly not!’).
Idolatry
Approved rendering: Sanam-caabudid
Transliteration: SAH-nahm cah-boo-DEED
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit / Bondage to the Elemental Principles of the World

Transliteration: SAH-rah
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Original: Σάρρα
Category: Covenant
Galatians 4:21-31. Handled alongside the Hagar entry’s Critical flag; risk is comparatively lower since Sarah’s positive allegorical role does not invert her Islamic-tradition standing.

Doctrine: (Trinity-adjacent)
Original: ὁ Θεὸς εἷς ἐστιν
