Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 2 Timothy | English → Somali
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, across all four chapters of 2 Timothy. Terms marked [BASELINE REUSE] carry the exact Somali rendering already fixed in the Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json and MUST NOT be altered. Terms marked [NEW] are proposed additions specific to this curriculum, pending confirmation and entry into an updated translation memory in a later pipeline step.

C. Risk Tier Summary for This Curriculum
| Risk Tier | Count (New Terms) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 7 | Human theologian (mandatory, every occurrence) |
| High | 20 | Human theologian (mandatory) |
| Medium | 20 | Native speaker review recommended |
| Low | 11 | Automated review sufficient |
Note: counts reflect the “New Terms” table (Section B) only; baseline-reused terms (Section A) already carry their fixed risk tiers from the Romans Language Package and do not need re-litigation, only consistent reuse.
D. Cross-Cutting Safety Flag: Preaching, Evangelism, and Apostasy Vocabulary
The following term cluster extends the baseline’s already-established “mission/evangelism” forbidden-substitution rule (never wacdinta) into new territory specific to 2 Timothy, and additionally introduces an apostasy-language safety flag with no baseline precedent:
- κηρύσσω (preach) → Ku dhawaaqid — never wacdi
- κήρυγμα (proclamation) → Warka faafinta
- εὐαγγελιστής (evangelist) → Faafiyaha Injiilka
- ἀποστρέφω (turn away) → Ka leexasho
- ἀρνέομαι (deny) → Diidid/Inkirid
All five terms require mandatory human theologian review with explicit pastoral and physical-safety framing before any Phase 2 translation output is approved, consistent with the routing precedent already established in the baseline for Romans 10:14-15 and Romans 15:20.
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: Xaqnimo

Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: jannada gelid (entering paradise, as the whole content)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 2:10; 3:15; 4:18 (paired with ‘heavenly kingdom’ entry language). Must not be diluted into hoping to enter jannada.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruuxa Quduuska ah
Transliteration: ROO-khah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Jibriil (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 1:14, ‘the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.’ Never equate with Jibriil.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Sarakicidda
Transliteration: sah-rah-kee-CID-dah
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday (being raised up without dying)
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 2:8 (true doctrine, presupposing real death) and 2:18 (a named false teaching claiming the resurrection has ‘already happened’); the 2:18 occurrence requires explicit framing as a distortion, not a competing valid view, since the identical Somali term is used in both places.
Lord
Approved rendering: Rabbiga
Transliteration: RAHB-bee-gah
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: sayidka (master/boss, non-divine)
Original: κύριος

Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Rejected alternatives: wacdinta (preaching/proselytizing, lethal risk in parts of Somalia)
Original: ἀποστολή / πέμπω (root concept)
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies the coined 2 Timothy term ‘Faafiyaha Injiilka’ (evangelist, 4:5). Route any related content to human theologian review.
Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: Xaqnimo loo xisaabiyay
Transliteration: khahk-NEE-moh loh khee-sah-bee-YAY
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: xaqnimo la kasbaday (earned righteousness)
Original: λογίζομαι (family)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. The same λογίζομαι verb family recurs at 4:16 in a forgiveness sense (‘Yaanan loo xisaabin’, may it not be charged against them) — cross-reference this entry in teaching, but reserve THIS exact rendering for the forensic-righteousness sense only.
God Breathed
Approved rendering: Waxaa Ilaah ku afuufay
Transliteration: wah-KHAH ee-LAHH koo ah-FOO-fay
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: waxyi-style verbatim-dictation framing (the specific Islamic mechanism claimed for the Qur’an’s revelation), generic ‘holy/inspiring book’ language that loses the direct-divine-origin claim
Original: θεόπνευστος
Category: Scripture
NEW — the theological anchor term of the entire curriculum (3:16). Must never be softened into a claim structurally parallel to Qur’anic dictation (which would invite the tahriif rebuttal) nor weakened into mere human religious insight. Mandatory theologian review, every occurrence.
Scripture
Approved rendering: Qorniinka Quduuska ah / Qorniinka
Transliteration: KOR-neen-kah koo-DOOS-kah ah
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: Kalaamullah (Islamic technical category of Allah’s uncreated speech applied to the Qur’an)
Original: ἱερὰ γράμματα / γραφή
Category: Scripture
NEW. Occurs at 3:15 (‘sacred writings’) and 3:16 (‘all Scripture’); must use the same root at both to signal the same body of writings. Directly collides with tahriif; requires explicit reliability teaching every time.
Appearing
Approved rendering: Soo Muuqashada
Transliteration: soh moo-oo-KAH-shah-dah
Doctrine: Incarnation and Second Coming of Christ
Rejected alternatives: kor loo qaaday-adjacent framing, varying the rendering between occurrences (would sever Paul’s deliberate two-comings link)
Original: ἐπιφάνεια
Category: Christology
NEW. Occurs at 1:10 (first appearing/incarnation), 4:1 and 4:8 (second appearing/return). MUST render identically at all three occurrences — hard consistency rule.
Preach
Approved rendering: Ku dhawaaqid
Transliteration: koo dhah-wah-KHID
Doctrine: The Charge to Preach the Word
Rejected alternatives: wacdi/wacdinta (FORBIDDEN — lethal risk of open evangelism in parts of Somalia)
Original: κηρύσσω
Category: Ministry
NEW — safety-flagged. Occurs at 4:2, the central verb of the charge. Never wacdi-root vocabulary. Mandatory theologian review with pastoral/physical-safety framing, every occurrence.
Evangelist
Approved rendering: Faafiyaha Injiilka
Transliteration: fah-ah-FEE-yah-hah in-JEEL-kah
Doctrine: The Charge to Preach the Word
Rejected alternatives: wacdiye (an Islamic-preacher-associated coinage)
Original: εὐαγγελιστής
Category: Ministry
NEW — safety-flagged. Occurs at 4:5. Built on the baseline’s already safety-conscious ‘Warka wanaagsan faafinta,’ not on wacdi-root vocabulary.
Proclamation
Approved rendering: Warka (Injiilka) faafinta
Doctrine: The Charge to Preach the Word
Rejected alternatives: wacdinta
Original: κήρυγμα
Category: Ministry
NEW — safety-flagged. Occurs at 4:17 (‘that the message might be fully proclaimed’). Same forbidden-substitution class as ‘preach’.
Turn Away
Approved rendering: Ka leexasho
Transliteration: kah leh-KHAH-shoh
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Rejected alternatives: riddo / murtad (the specific Islamic legal terms for apostasy from Islam, carrying capital-offense connotations in classical fiqh — FORBIDDEN)
Original: ἀποστρέφω
Category: Apostasy
NEW — safety-flagged. Occurs at 1:15 and 4:4. Must never inadvertently reinforce a punitive frame Somali readers may map onto those who leave Islam for Christ. Mandatory theologian review, every occurrence.
Deny
Approved rendering: Diidid / Inkirid
Transliteration: dee-DID / in-kee-RID
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Rejected alternatives: riddo / murtad (FORBIDDEN, same rationale as turn_away)
Original: ἀρνέομαι
Category: Apostasy
NEW — safety-flagged. Occurs at 2:12-13 and 3:5. Same riddah-sensitivity class as ‘turn_away.’ Mandatory theologian review.
Sound Doctrine
Approved rendering: Waxbaridda saxda ah ee caafimaadka leh
Transliteration: wahkh-bah-RID-dah SAKH-dah ah eh cah-ah-fee-MAHD-kah leh
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Rejected alternatives: sharci-adjacent ‘correct ruling’ framing (would map onto madhab/fiqh disputes rather than gospel-content health)
Original: ὑγιαίνων λόγος / ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Category: Doctrine
NEW. Occurs at 1:13 (‘sound words’, Hadallada saxda ah ee caafimaadka leh) and 4:3 (‘sound teaching’); MUST render identically at both occurrences. Preserve the hygiainō health metaphor (caafimaad), tied to 2:17’s gangrene image.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: Injiilka
Transliteration: in-JEEL-kah
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: war wanaagsan (generic ‘good news’, without the proclamation weight)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Timothy underlies the coined term ‘Faafiyaha Injiilka’ (evangelist, 4:5); occurs directly at 1:8,10; 2:8. Must be taught as Paul’s living, transmitted proclamation, not a static, disputed book (tahriif risk).
Grace
Approved rendering: Nimco
Transliteration: NIM-koh
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: naxariis (mercy/compassion), barako (blessing/spiritual potency tied to a Sufi sheekh’s lineage or tomb)

Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 1:5,13; 2:18,22; 3:8,10,15; 4:7. The object of faith (Ciise Masiixa) must always be recoverable from context.
