Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis: Matthew (English → Thai)
Purpose and Methodology
This document provides the full doctrine matrix for the Matthew curriculum, covering all 28 chapters, and is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: the same 26 doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same review-routing assignments are used here without modification. Where doctrine_risk_registry.json gives a compact risk-note, this document expands that note into full chapter-level coverage so that every chapter of Matthew is explicitly accounted for, per the PRD’s full-book coverage mandate. The core passage, Matthew 5:1-12 (the Beatitudes), anchors the curriculum theologically but is never treated as the scope boundary — every chapter 1-28 is reviewed below, and chapters that surface no new load-bearing doctrinal content are explicitly marked as reviewed rather than silently omitted.
Risk tier definitions are inherited unchanged from the baseline Romans/Galatians doctrine_risk_registry.json:
| Tier | Definition | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | Mistranslation alters or destroys essential doctrine | Human theologian review, every occurrence |
| High | Mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk | Human theologian review |
| Medium | Mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning | Native speaker review |
| Low | Mistranslation causes minor misunderstanding or imprecision | Automated review |
Section 1 — Doctrine Matrix (Full Registry Alignment)
| # | Doctrine | Thai Doctrine Name | Risk | Primary Passages (Matthew) | Translation Risk Summary | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Kingdom of Heaven | แผ่นดินสวรรค์ | Critical | 3:2; 4:17; 5:3-10; 6:10, 33; 13:1-52; 18:1-4; 19:14, 23-24 | สวรรค์ is a live Buddhist cosmological term for a temporary, merit-exhaustible heavenly rebirth-realm within saṃsāra; the phrase’s 32 occurrences as Matthew’s organizing category make consistent theologian oversight essential. | Human theologian |
| 2 | Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David | พระเมสสิยาห์ผู้ทรงเป็นบุตรดาวิด | Critical | 1:1, 17; 9:27; 12:23; 15:22; 20:30-31; 21:9, 15; 22:41-46 | Must never be conflated with Phra Si Ariya Metrai (the future Buddha); the repeated public “Son of David” acclamation recurs across the whole narrative, not a single verse. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Incarnation | การทรงบังเกิดเป็นมนุษย์ | Critical | 1:18-23, 25 | Never อวตาร (avatar); the Ramakien epic and the monarchy’s “Rama” title make this the single most natural-sounding but doctrinally false available rendering. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Deity of Christ | ความเป็นพระเจ้าของพระคริสต์ | Critical | 3:17; 8:29; 14:33; 16:16; 17:1-8; 26:63-64; 28:18 | Not เทวดา or a merit-elevated teacher; the Transfiguration’s จำแลง especially risks a shape-shifting-deity reading. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Sonship of Christ | ความเป็นพระบุตรของพระคริสต์ | Critical | 3:17; 4:3, 6; 16:16; 17:5; 26:63; 27:54 | Not เทพบุตร or a temporary avatar-son; must stay visibly distinct from believers’ plain บุตร (5:9, 5:45). | Human theologian |
| 6 | The Son of Man Title | พระฉายาบุตรมนุษย์ | Critical | 8:20; 9:6; 12:8; 16:13, 27-28; 17:22; 20:28; 24:30; 25:31; 26:64 | Matthew’s most frequent Christological self-designation (30+ uses) risks flattening into “merely human” without explicit Daniel-7 background teaching. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy | ความสำเร็จของคำพยากรณ์ในพันธสัญญาเดิม | High | 1:22-23; 2:15, 17, 23; 4:14; 5:17; 8:17; 12:17, 39-41; 13:35; 21:4; 26:56; 27:9, 51 | Demands linear, one-time historical fulfillment, never the cyclical world-ages of Buddhist-Brahmanic cosmology; recurs in 11+ formula-quotations across the book. | Human theologian |
| 8 | The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching | สิทธิอำนาจแห่งคำสอนของพระเยซู | High | 5:17-48; 7:24-29; 8:9; 9:6, 8; 21:23-27; 28:18, 20 | สิทธิอำนาจ must convey non-derived, self-evident authority, not the earned social rank of a senior teacher (อาจารย์ใหญ่). | Human theologian |
| 9 | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | ความชอบธรรมที่เกินกว่าพวกฟาริสี | Critical | 5:6, 20; 5:21-48; 6:1-18; 15:1-20; 23:1-36 | Inherits the baseline’s Critical ความชอบธรรม risk and adds the sharpest merit-culture collision in the book via the critique of public religious display. | Human theologian |
| 10 | The Church and Church Discipline | คริสตจักรและระเบียบวินัยในคริสตจักร | High | 16:16-19; 18:1-35 | ผูก collides with live Thai ritual thread-binding practice (สายสิญจน์, ผูกข้อมือ); discipline’s restorative goal must not collapse into institutional punishment. | Human theologian |
| 11 | The Great Commission | พระมหาบัญชา | High | 28:16-20 | ”All nations” must be ทุกชนชาติ, not ทุกประเทศ; the Trinitarian “one name, three persons” formula cannot be disambiguated by Thai grammar alone. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Judgment and the End of the Age | การพิพากษาและวาระสุดท้ายของโลก | Critical | 12:31-32; 13:36-43; 24:1-51; 25:1-46 | Thai heaven/hell realms are both temporary saṃsāric stations; นิรันดร์ must be preserved as final and irreversible; the Son of Man’s coming must stay a singular, final, bodily event. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Resurrection of Christ | การเป็นขึ้นจากตายของพระคริสต์ | Critical | 12:39-41; 16:21; 17:9, 22-23; 20:19; 27:35-28:10 | Never การเกิดใหม่ (rebirth); requires the same vigilance at both the sign-of-Jonah typology and the narrative climax; the prior crucifixion must remain a genuine, fatal death. | Human theologian |
| 14 | The Atonement and Christ’s Ransom | การลบบาปและค่าไถ่ของพระคริสต์ | Critical | 20:28; 26:26-28; 27:46 | ค่าไถ่/blood-of-the-covenant must never be assimilated to ปลดเปลื้องกรรม; the cry of dereliction (27:46) requires careful framing against a Trinity-rupture misreading. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus | การเป็นสาวกและราคาที่ต้องจ่ายในการติดตามพระเยซู | Critical | 4:18-22; 4:1-11; 8:19-22; 10:1-42; 11:28-30; 16:24-26; 19:12, 16-30 | สาวก and “take up his cross” both carry Thai Buddhist/secular-idiom drift risk toward self-effort renunciation or generic burden-bearing. | Human theologian |
| 16 | The Unforgivable Sin: Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit | บาปที่ทรงอภัยไม่ได้: การหมิ่นประมาทพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ | Critical | 12:22-32 | Must not generalize into “any serious sin” or read as an unusually heavy karmic act; names a settled, willful rejection of the Spirit’s testimony to Christ. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment | ชีวิตนิรันดร์และการลงโทษนิรันดร์ | Critical | 19:16-29; 25:31-46 | Both paired destinies must retain นิรันดร์’s unending, irreversible force against the impermanent-realm logic of Thai cosmology. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Repentance | การกลับใจ | High | 3:2, 8; 4:17; 11:20-21; 12:41 | Risks assimilation to สำนึกผิด (remorse resolved through merit-making); must be a decisive, Spirit-enabled, whole-person Godward turning tied to faith in Christ. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Baptism and the Trinitarian Formula | บัพติศมาและสูตรตรีเอกภาพ | Critical | 3:13-17; 28:19 | บัพติศมา must stay distinct from รดน้ำมนต์; the singular divine “name” shared by three persons depends entirely on explicit surrounding teaching. | Human theologian |
| 20 | The Transfiguration and Christ’s Divine Glory | การทรงจำแลงพระกายและพระสิริของพระคริสต์ | High | 17:1-8 | จำแลง is widely used in Thai folklore/Hindu-Buddhist mythology for shape-shifting deities; must read as unveiling pre-existing glory, not metamorphosis. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven | ทรัพย์สมบัติ การให้ทาน และบำเหน็จในสวรรค์ | Critical | 5:12; 6:1-6, 16-21; 10:41-42; 19:21; 20:1-16 | Directly confronts Thailand’s public dāna/merit culture (ทำบุญ, ให้ทาน); secret-giving-for-the-Father’s-reward must not be assimilated as one more merit technique. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Beatitude Blessing and Kingdom Character | ความเป็นสุขแห่งแผ่นดินสวรรค์และลักษณะของพลเมืองแผ่นดินสวรรค์ | High | 5:1-12 | เป็นสุข must convey God’s declarative verdict of favor, not self-attained inner tranquility (a central Buddhist soteriological category). | Human theologian |
| 23 | The Sabbath and Christ’s Authority Over It | วันสะบาโตและสิทธิอำนาจของพระคริสต์เหนือวันสะบาโต | Medium | 12:1-14 | No direct Thai institutional equivalent; primary risk is losing the implicit “Lord of the Sabbath” authority claim. | Native speaker review |
| 24 | Human Tradition versus God’s Commandment | ประเพณีของมนุษย์เทียบกับพระบัญญัติของพระเจ้า | Medium | 15:1-20 | Real resonance with tradition-heavy religious cultures generally; must stay a critique of a specific first-century pattern, not a generic anti-tradition polemic. | Native speaker review |
| 25 | Genealogy and the Davidic Lineage Record | บันทึกเชื้อสายและเชื้อวงศ์ของดาวิด | Low | 1:1-17 | Minor risk of the list reading as decorative background rather than a legal claim to Davidic royal descent. | Automated review |
| 26 | New Covenant Forms versus Old (New Wine, New Wineskins) | รูปแบบใหม่แห่งพันธสัญญาเทียบกับรูปแบบเดิม | Low | 9:14-17 | Minor risk of losing the covenant-forms point if read as mere practical storage advice. | Automated review |
Section 2 — Chapter-by-Chapter Coverage Ledger (Matthew 1-28)
Every chapter is reviewed below. Chapters whose content is fully absorbed into doctrines already documented elsewhere are marked “Reviewed — no additional new doctrinal content” with a pointer to the governing doctrine(s).
Chapter 1 — Genealogy and the Davidic Lineage Record (Low, 1:1-17); Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (Critical, 1:1, 17, 20-23); Incarnation (Critical, 1:18-25, virgin conception and the Immanuel formula). New terms: son_of_david, virgin, immanuel.
Chapter 2 — Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 2:5-6, 15, 17-18, 23, four separate formula-quotations in one chapter); Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (Herod’s threat as rival-king narrative). New terms: wise_men_magi, fulfilled.
Chapter 3 — Repentance (High, 3:2, 8); Baptism and the Trinitarian Formula (Critical, 3:13-17); Sonship of Christ (Critical, 3:17, voice from heaven); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 3:2, “at hand”). New term: baptize.
Chapter 4 — Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 4:1-11 temptation narrative, 4:18-22 calling of the first disciples); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 4:17); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 4:14-16); Sonship of Christ (Critical, 4:3, 6, the devil’s taunts). New term: tempted.
Chapter 5 — CORE PASSAGE (5:1-12) plus full chapter. Beatitude Blessing and Kingdom Character (High, 5:1-12); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 5:3, 10, 19-20); Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (Critical, 5:6, 20, 21-48); The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (High, 5:17-48, the “you have heard… but I say to you” formula); Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven (Critical, 5:12); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 5:17-18). See Section 3 for the dedicated deep dive.
Chapter 6 — Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (Critical, 6:1-18, secret almsgiving/prayer/fasting); Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven (Critical, 6:1-6, 16-21); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 6:10, 33, the Lord’s Prayer and “seek first”). Reuses baseline father term heavily throughout the Lord’s Prayer.
Chapter 7 — The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (High, 7:24-29, the crowd’s astonishment at his ἐξουσία); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 7:21); Judgment and the End of the Age (Critical, 7:21-23, warning of false disciples — minor but genuine overlap).
Chapter 8 — The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (High, 8:9, the centurion); Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 8:18-22); Deity of Christ (Critical, 8:23-27 calming the storm, 8:29 demons’ recognition of “Son of God”).
Chapter 9 — New Covenant Forms versus Old (Low, 9:14-17); The Son of Man Title (Critical, 9:6, authority to forgive sins); The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (High, 9:6, 8). Reviewed — no additional doctrinal content beyond these.
Chapter 10 — Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 10:1-42, the mission discourse and persecution warnings); Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven (Critical, 10:41-42). Translation note: 10:5-6 restricts the mission to Israel (“go nowhere among the Gentiles”), a deliberate narrative contrast with the universal mandate of 28:19 — this narrowing-then-widening arc must be preserved, not harmonized away.
Chapter 11 — Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (Critical, 11:2-6, “the one who is to come”); Repentance (High, 11:20-21); Beatitude Blessing and Kingdom Character (High, 11:6); Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 11:28-30, “my yoke is easy”); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 11:10, 14, John the Baptist as an Elijah-figure).
Chapter 12 — The Sabbath and Christ’s Authority Over It (Medium, 12:1-14); The Son of Man Title (Critical, 12:8); The Unforgivable Sin: Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (Critical, 12:22-32); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy / sign of Jonah (High, 12:38-41, advance resurrection typology); Judgment and the End of the Age (Critical, 12:36-37, 41-42).
Chapter 13 — The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 13:1-52, the parables discourse; mysteries of the kingdom); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 13:14-15, 35); Judgment and the End of the Age (Critical, 13:24-30, 36-43, 47-50, wheat/tares and the dragnet).
Chapter 14 — Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, subset “little faith,” 14:22-33). Reviewed — no additional new doctrinal content beyond this; John the Baptist’s execution (14:1-12) is narrative background without a new load-bearing term.
Chapter 15 — Human Tradition versus God’s Commandment (Medium, 15:1-20); Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (Critical, 15:7-9, hypocrite); the Canaanite woman’s faith (15:21-28) foreshadows the Great Commission’s Gentile trajectory but introduces no new registry term beyond existing faith and gentiles.
Chapter 16 — The Church and Church Discipline (High, 16:16-19, Peter’s confession, the keys, the rock); Deity of Christ and Sonship of Christ (Critical, 16:16); Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (Critical, 16:16, 20); The Son of Man Title (Critical, 16:13, 27-28); Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 16:24-26, take up his cross / lose-find life).
Chapter 17 — The Transfiguration and Christ’s Divine Glory (High, 17:1-8); The Son of Man Title (Critical, 17:9, 12, 22-23, resurrection prediction); Sonship of Christ (Critical, 17:5).
Chapter 18 — The Church and Church Discipline (High, 18:1-35, the entire chapter: little ones, the lost sheep, the discipline procedure, bind-and-loose, the unforgiving servant); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 18:1-4, 23).
Chapter 19 — Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 19:10-12, eunuchs for the kingdom; 19:16-30, the rich young man); Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment (Critical, 19:16-29); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 19:14, 23-24).
Chapter 20 — Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven (Critical, 20:1-16, the parable of the workers); The Atonement and Christ’s Ransom (Critical, 20:28); The Son of Man Title (Critical, 20:18, 28); Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (20:20-28, servanthood).
Chapter 21 — Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (Critical, 21:1-11, 9, 15, the triumphal entry and Hosanna); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 21:4-5, 42, including the cornerstone citation); The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (High, 21:23-27); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 21:31, 43); Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (parables of the two sons and the tenants).
Chapter 22 — Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (Critical, 22:34-40, the greatest commandment); Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (Critical, 22:41-46, “whose son is the Christ”); The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical, 22:1-14, the wedding feast); Judgment and the End of the Age (22:13).
Chapter 23 — Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (Critical, 23:1-36, the seven woes and hypocrite language); The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (contrast with derived rabbinic authority); Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David (minor, 23:37-39, the lament over Jerusalem echoing the Davidic city).
Chapter 24 — Judgment and the End of the Age (Critical, 24:1-51, the Olivet Discourse, the abomination of desolation); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 24:15, the Daniel reference); The Son of Man Title (Critical, 24:27, 30, 37, 39, 44).
Chapter 25 — Judgment and the End of the Age (Critical, 25:1-46, the ten virgins, the talents, the sheep and the goats); Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment (Critical, 25:31-46); Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven (25:14-30, the talents); “the least of these” also touches Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees and Discipleship as evidentiary fruit, not a merit-earning transaction.
Chapter 26 — The Atonement and Christ’s Ransom (Critical, 26:26-28, the Last Supper and the blood of the covenant); Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (Critical, 26:31-35, 69-75, Peter’s denial foretold and fulfilled; 26:14-16, 47-50, the betrayal); Sonship of Christ and The Son of Man Title (Critical, 26:63-64, the Sanhedrin trial); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 26:31, 54, 56).
Chapter 27 — Resurrection of Christ (Critical, prerequisite crucifixion narrative, 27:1-56); The Atonement and Christ’s Ransom (Critical, 27:46, the cry of dereliction); Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy (High, 27:9, 35, 46, 51, including the torn temple veil); Deity of Christ (Critical, 27:54, the centurion’s confession).
Chapter 28 — Resurrection of Christ (Critical, 28:1-15, the climax and the guards’ report); The Great Commission (High, 28:16-20); Baptism and the Trinitarian Formula (Critical, 28:19); Deity of Christ and The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (Critical/High, 28:18, “all authority”); Judgment and the End of the Age (minor, 28:20, “to the end of the age”).
Section 3 — Core Passage Deep Dive: Matthew 5:1-12 (The Beatitudes)
The core passage is the curriculum’s theological anchor and carries four doctrines simultaneously:
- Beatitude Blessing and Kingdom Character (High) — the entire pericope. เป็นสุข (blessed) must be rendered as God’s own declarative verdict of eschatological favor and vindication on kingdom citizens (a status conferred, not achieved through inner cultivation), never assimilated to ความสุข as a self-attained meditative state.
- The Kingdom of Heaven (Critical) — the inclusio bracketing the passage (5:3, “theirs is the kingdom of heaven”; 5:10, “theirs is the kingdom of heaven”). Both bookends must retain the Critical-tier vigilance against a merit-graded rebirth-realm reading of แผ่นดินสวรรค์.
- Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (Critical) — 5:6 (“hunger and thirst for righteousness”) anticipates the fuller Sermon-on-the-Mount argument developed through chapter 7; ความชอบธรรม here must not collapse into a moral-achievement scale.
- Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven (Critical) — 5:12 (“your reward is great in heaven”) is the passage’s own first occurrence of บำเหน็จ, requiring the same grace-not-merit vigilance applied throughout chapter 6.
New terms surfaced only in this passage requiring Phase 2 glossary entries: blessed, poor_in_spirit, meek, merciful, pure_in_heart, peacemakers, reward (see 08_core_glossary.md Part B for full definitions).

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Kingdom of Heaven
Thai name: แผ่นดินสวรรค์
Key terms: kingdom_of_heaven, kingdom_of_god, mysteries_of_kingdom, keys_of_kingdom, blessed
Review routing: Human theologian
แผ่นดินสวรรค์’s สวรรค์ component is a live Buddhist cosmological term for one of several temporary heavenly rebirth-realms within saṃsāra, a station eventually left once merit is exhausted. Occurring 32 times as Matthew’s organizing category, every occurrence risks being heard as a desirable but impermanent afterlife destination rather than God’s eternal, personal, sovereign reign already breaking in through Christ.
Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Thai name: พระเมสสิยาห์ผู้ทรงเป็นบุตรดาวิด
Key terms: messiah, christ, son_of_david, hosanna, one_who_is_to_come
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: must not be conflated with the popular Thai expectation of Phra Si Ariya Metrai (the future Buddha Maitreya). The repeated public acclamation ‘Son of David’ throughout Matthew’s narrative (not a single isolated verse) makes sustained vigilance against this substitution necessary across the whole book, not only at its genealogical opening.
Incarnation
Thai name: การทรงบังเกิดเป็นมนุษย์
Key terms: immanuel, virgin, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: never การอวตาร (avatar), the concept made especially natural-sounding in Thai by the Ramakien epic and the Thai monarchy’s own royal title ‘Rama.’ Matthew’s Immanuel gloss (1:23) is the Gospel’s own explicit doctrinal statement of this event and must retain literal divine presence, not a temporary manifestation.
Deity of Christ
Thai name: ความเป็นพระเจ้าของพระคริสต์
Key terms: son_of_god, lord, transfigured, all_authority
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: co-equal, eternal divine nature; not a deva (เทวดา) or an enlightened teacher elevated by merit. The Transfiguration’s จำแลง (change of form) especially risks a shape-shifting-deity reading familiar from Thai popular Hindu-Buddhist mythology rather than a momentary unveiling of already-existing glory.
Sonship of Christ
Thai name: ความเป็นพระบุตรของพระคริสต์
Key terms: son_of_god, father
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: eternal, unique Sonship, not a lesser celestial being (เทพบุตร) or a temporary avatar-son. Must be kept visibly distinct throughout Matthew from the plain บุตร used for believers’ derived, adoptive sonship at 5:9 and 5:45, since both terms appear within the same Gospel.
The Son of Man Title
Thai name: พระฉายาบุตรมนุษย์
Key terms: son_of_man, coming_of_son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: Matthew’s most frequent Christological self-designation (30+ uses) carries a double meaning — genuine humility/humanity now, transcendent Daniel-7 divine authority and judgment to come — that Thai readers may flatten into ‘merely human’ without explicit teaching of the Daniel background, since บุตรมนุษย์ reads literally as ‘a human being’s son.‘
Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Thai name: ความชอบธรรมที่เกินกว่าพวกฟาริสี
Key terms: righteousness, merciful, pure_in_heart, hypocrite, tradition_vs_commandment, woe
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: inherits the baseline’s Critical ความชอบธรรม risk directly, while adding the sharpest merit-culture collision in the whole book — Jesus’ critique of public, self-glorifying religious display (almsgiving, fasting, prayer) directly confronts the logic of Thailand’s own public dāna/merit-making culture (ทำบุญ, ให้ทาน), not merely resembling it but naming and rejecting exactly that pattern.
Judgment and the End of the Age
Thai name: การพิพากษาและวาระสุดท้ายของโลก
Key terms: coming_of_son_of_man, eternal_punishment, eternal_life, abomination_of_desolation, least_of_these, blasphemy_against_holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: Thai Buddhist cosmology’s hell-realms (นรก) and heaven-realms (สวรรค์) are both understood as temporary, exhaustible stations within an ongoing cycle. Matthew’s นิรันดร์ (eternal, unending) language for both judgment and life must be preserved as a final, irreversible destiny, and the Son of Man’s coming must remain a singular, final, bodily event, not a repeatable avatar-style descent or the start of a new cosmic cycle.
Resurrection of Christ
Thai name: การเป็นขึ้นจากตายของพระคริสต์
Key terms: resurrection, sign_of_jonah, crucified
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: การเป็นขึ้นจากตาย, never การเกิดใหม่ (rebirth into saṃsāra). Matthew provides its own advance typology (the sign of Jonah, 12:39-41) as well as the narrative climax (28:6), both requiring the same forbidden-substitution vigilance; the reality of the prior crucifixion (ch. 27) must also be preserved against any docetic softening for the resurrection to carry its full force.
The Atonement and Christ’s Ransom
Thai name: การลบบาปและค่าไถ่ของพระคริสต์
Key terms: ransom, blood_of_the_covenant, why_have_you_forsaken_me, sin
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ‘ransom’ (ค่าไถ่) and ‘blood of the covenant’ must never be assimilated to ปลดเปลื้องกรรม (clearing one’s own accumulated karmic debt through one’s own effort) or a merit-transfer offering; Christ’s cry of dereliction (27:46) requires careful theological framing so it is not read as an ontological rupture within the Godhead, which would contradict deity_of_christ.
Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Thai name: การเป็นสาวกและราคาที่ต้องจ่ายในการติดตามพระเยซู
Key terms: disciple, take_up_cross, lose_life_find_life, confess_deny, easy_yoke, tempted, little_faith, eunuchs_for_kingdom
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: สาวก shares vocabulary with Thai Buddhism (a monk’s or the Buddha’s สาวก) and ‘take up his cross’ has drifted, in secular Thai idiom, into a generic phrase for ‘carrying burdens.’ Both terms must retain Matthew’s specific sense of total, exclusive, potentially fatal allegiance to Christ, not an intellectual apprenticeship or generalized self-sacrifice ethic; ‘my yoke is easy’ must not be read through the baseline’s forbidden freedom/หลุดพ้น liberation vocabulary.
The Unforgivable Sin: Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
Thai name: บาปที่ทรงอภัยไม่ได้: การหมิ่นประมาทพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์
Key terms: blasphemy_against_holy_spirit, holy_spirit, sin
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: must not be generalized into ‘any serious sin,’ softened into a social offense, or read through a karma-debt lens as an unusually large negative-karma act outweighing possible merit; it names a settled, willful rejection of the Spirit’s testimony to Christ and must retain its unique unforgivable-sin force.
Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment
Thai name: ชีวิตนิรันดร์และการลงโทษนิรันดร์
Key terms: eternal_life, eternal_punishment
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: the paired final destinies must both retain นิรันดร์’s unending, irreversible force; Thai Buddhist cosmology’s heaven- and hell-realms are both temporary stations within an ongoing rebirth cycle, and softening either term toward that framework would distort the doctrine of final judgment on both sides of the ledger.
Baptism and the Trinitarian Formula
Thai name: บัพติศมาและสูตรตรีเอกภาพ
Key terms: baptize, baptizing_trinitarian_formula, god, father, son_of_god, holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: บัพติศมา must be kept distinct from Thai ritual water-blessing (รดน้ำมนต์); the Great Commission’s baptismal formula asserts one singular divine ‘name’ shared by three persons, a distinction Thai’s number-neutral grammar cannot itself carry, requiring explicit surrounding teaching to avoid a tritheistic misreading.
Treasure, Almsgiving, and Reward in Heaven
Thai name: ทรัพย์สมบัติ การให้ทาน และบำเหน็จในสวรรค์
Key terms: reward, kingdom_of_heaven
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: this cluster directly confronts Thailand’s own live, often public, merit-generating dāna culture (ทำบุญ, ให้ทาน, สั่งสมบุญ, donor plaques and public donation ceremonies). Jesus’ commands to give, fast, and pray in secret for the Father’s reward alone must be taught as a critique of exactly this public, merit-accruing logic, not assimilated into it as one more merit-making technique with a Christian label.
High Risk Doctrines
Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Thai name: ความสำเร็จของคำพยากรณ์ในพันธสัญญาเดิม
Key terms: fulfilled, prophecy, prophet, sign_of_jonah, temple_veil_torn
Review routing: Human theologian
Matthew’s eleven-plus fulfillment formulas demand a linear, one-time historical fulfillment (OT promise to NT event in Christ), never the cyclical world-ages of Buddhist-Brahmanic cosmology; this structural device recurs so frequently across the whole book that a single mistranslation pattern here would compound across dozens of passages.
The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Thai name: สิทธิอำนาจแห่งคำสอนของพระเยซู
Key terms: authority, law, teaching_to_observe
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘you have heard… but I say to you’ formula and the crowd’s astonishment at his ἐξουσία (7:28-29) claim an authority independent of and superior to received tradition — สิทธิอำนาจ must convey non-derived, self-evident authority, not mere social rank or the respect accorded a senior teacher (อาจารย์ใหญ่), a risk the baseline already flags for ‘apostle.‘
The Church and Church Discipline
Thai name: คริสตจักรและระเบียบวินัยในคริสตจักร
Key terms: church, rock_church_foundation, bind_and_loose, church_discipline, forgive, little_ones
Review routing: Human theologian
ผูก (bind) is live vocabulary in Thai folk-religious and Buddhist ritual practice (สายสิญจน์, ผูกข้อมือ protective thread-binding); the church’s exercise of doctrinal and disciplinary authority must read as an authoritative, Spirit-guided declarative act, not a ritual binding performed by an individual religious specialist, and its restorative goal (‘gained your brother’) must not collapse into institutional punishment.
The Great Commission
Thai name: พระมหาบัญชา
Key terms: make_disciples_of_all_nations, baptizing_trinitarian_formula, all_authority, teaching_to_observe, i_am_with_you_always, mission
Review routing: Human theologian
πάντα τὰ ἔθνη (all nations/peoples) must be rendered ทุกชนชาติ, not ทุกประเทศ, to avoid narrowing the universal mandate to political nation-states; the Trinitarian formula’s singular ‘name’ shared by three persons cannot be marked by Thai grammar and depends entirely on explicit surrounding teaching to avoid a tritheistic misreading.
Repentance
Thai name: การกลับใจ
Key terms: repent
Review routing: Human theologian
กลับใจ risks assimilation to Buddhist สำนึกผิด (remorse/regret for wrongdoing, often resolved through merit-making or confession rituals) or a superficial self-generated resolution; must be taught as a decisive, Spirit-enabled, whole-person Godward turning tied to genuine faith in Christ.
The Transfiguration and Christ’s Divine Glory
Thai name: การทรงจำแลงพระกายและพระสิริของพระคริสต์
Key terms: transfigured, glory, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
จำแลง (transform/change shape) is widely used in Thai folklore and Hindu-Buddhist-derived mythology (e.g., the Ramakien) for shape-shifting deities and spirits; must be taught as a momentary unveiling of Christ’s own pre-existing divine glory, not a metamorphosis into a different being or a repeatable shape-shift.
Beatitude Blessing and Kingdom Character
Thai name: ความเป็นสุขแห่งแผ่นดินสวรรค์และลักษณะของพลเมืองแผ่นดินสวรรค์
Key terms: blessed, poor_in_spirit, meek, peacemakers
Review routing: Human theologian
เป็นสุข must convey God’s own declarative verdict of favor and eschatological vindication on kingdom citizens, not the self-attained inner tranquility that ความสุข connotes as a central Buddhist soteriological category achieved through detachment and mental cultivation.
Medium Risk Doctrines
The Sabbath and Christ’s Authority Over It
Thai name: วันสะบาโตและสิทธิอำนาจของพระคริสต์เหนือวันสะบาโต
Key terms: sabbath, authority
Review routing: Native speaker review
The weekly Sabbath rest has no direct institutional equivalent in Thai religious tradition, requiring a brief cultural-background note; the primary risk is the loss of the implicit authority claim (‘Lord of the Sabbath’) rather than a specific Buddhist-vocabulary collision.
Human Tradition versus God’s Commandment
Thai name: ประเพณีของมนุษย์เทียบกับพระบัญญัติของพระเจ้า
Key terms: tradition_vs_commandment, hypocrite
Review routing: Native speaker review
The critique of elevating inherited custom above God’s actual revealed will has real resonance with any tradition-heavy religious culture, including popular Thai religious practice; must be taught as a critique of a specific first-century pattern, not weaponized generically against all religious custom.
Low Risk Doctrines
Genealogy and the Davidic Lineage Record
Thai name: บันทึกเชื้อสายและเชื้อวงศ์ของดาวิด
Key terms: david, abraham, son_of_david
Review routing: Automated review
Primarily a genealogical record; minor risk of the list being read as decorative background rather than a legal claim to Davidic royal descent, but low collision risk with Thai religious vocabulary as such.
New Covenant Forms versus Old (New Wine, New Wineskins)
Thai name: รูปแบบใหม่แห่งพันธสัญญาเทียบกับรูปแบบเดิม
Key terms: new_wine_new_wineskins
Review routing: Automated review
The agricultural metaphor translates cleanly into Thai; minor risk of losing the covenant-forms point if read as mere practical advice about storage rather than a statement about the incompatibility of old religious categories with the new reality in Christ.
