Core Glossary
Core Glossary: 1 Corinthians — English → Konkani
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning 1 Corinthians chapters 1-16. Terms already established in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json are marked (baseline — reused exactly); new terms introduced by this curriculum are marked (new) and should be added to translation_memory.json in Phase 2 following the version-increment procedure in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Critical Risk Terms
Salvation
Approved rendering: तारण
Transliteration: tāraṇ
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ती, मोक्ष, सुटका
Original: σῴζω / σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER मुक्ती or मोक्ष. In 15:2 the present-passive ‘being saved’ should be marked in translator notes as ongoing deliverance resting on a finished historical work, not an uncertain karmic trajectory still being earned.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: पुनरुत्थान
Transliteration: punaruthān
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म, पुनर्जीवन
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER पुनर्जन्म. 1 Corinthians 15 (the core chapter) depends entirely on this being a unique historical event, not the cyclical rebirth pattern the same root would suggest; the perfect tense ἐγήγερται (15:4) must convey an abiding, settled state (‘was raised and remains risen’).
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभू
Transliteration: prabhū
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्वामी, मालक
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Root of two new 1 Corinthians compounds: प्रभूचो मेज (table of the Lord, 10:21) and प्रभू भोजन (the Lord’s Supper, 11:20). Must convey exclusive, supreme Lordship, never one revered figure among Goa’s temple deities.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्मा
Transliteration: pavitra ātmā
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्म, परमात्मा
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER ब्रह्म/परमात्मा. Central to chs. 2 (revealing wisdom), 3 and 6 (indwelling as temple), and 12 (distributing gifts).
Jesus
Approved rendering: येशू
Transliteration: yeśū
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: जेजू
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Never जेजू (Romi Konkani Catholic spelling).
God
Approved rendering: देव
Transliteration: dev
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: भगवान
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Must be paired with an exclusivity marker (एकच खरो देव) in doctrinally load-bearing contexts throughout 1 Corinthians, since देव is also the generic Goan Hindu word for any individual temple deity (Shantadurga dev, Mangueshi dev, Mahalasa dev).
Messiah
Approved rendering: मसीहा
Transliteration: masīhā
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: अभिषिक्त पुरुष, अवतारी पुरुष
Inherited from Romans package. Background doctrine underlying every 1 Corinthians use of ख्रिस्त as a fused name-title; retained for full-book consistency though this letter itself typically uses ख्रिस्त directly.
Christ
Approved rendering: ख्रिस्त
Transliteration: khrist
Doctrine: Messiah / Deity of Christ / Sonship of Christ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Newly formalized as its own translation_memory entry for the 1 Corinthians curriculum; the rendering itself is not new — it is the transliteration standard already fixed in the Romans-baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md transliteration list — but 1 Corinthians uses Χριστός almost as a proper name fused with the title far more densely than Romans (e.g. 5:7 ‘Christ our Passover lamb,’ 15:20 ‘Christ the firstfruits’), warranting its own tracked entry. Shares Critical status with Messiah, Sonship of Christ, and Deity of Christ doctrines.
Wisdom
Approved rendering: ज्ञान (always qualified: देवाचें ज्ञान / संसाराचें ज्ञान)
Transliteration: jñān (devāce jñān / sansārāce jñān)
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: unqualified ज्ञान
Original: σοφία
Category: Faith
NEW, book-defining risk. ज्ञान is the technical term for Jnana, one of Hindu tradition’s classic mārgas (paths) to liberation via self-attained knowledge. Unqualified use would reframe Paul’s cross-vs-wisdom argument (1:18-2:16, 3:19) as an in-house philosophical preference rather than a rejection of an entire alternative soteriology. MUST always be paired with देवाचें (God’s) or संसाराचें (worldly).
The Cross
Approved rendering: क्रूस
Transliteration: krūs
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: generic suffering/sacrifice term, Romi Konkani ‘Khuris’ (out of script scope)
Original: σταυρός
Category: Salvation
NEW. Established Devanagari Konkani/Marathi Christian loanword. By metonymy names the entire gospel content (1:17-18); must never be softened to a generic suffering or sacrifice term, which would lose this weight.
Temple Of God
Approved rendering: देवाचें मंदिर / पवित्र आत्म्याचें मंदिर
Transliteration: devāce mandir / pavitra ātmyāce mandir
Doctrine: The Church and the Believer’s Body as Temple of God
Rejected alternatives: unmarked मंदिर
Original: ναὸς θεοῦ / ναὸς τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος
Category: Church
NEW. मंदिर is the everyday Konkani word for a Hindu temple (Shantadurga Mandir, Mangueshi Mandir, Mahalasa Mandir). Used corporately of the church (3:16-17) and individually of the believer’s body (6:19-20). Every occurrence requires a mandatory translator note: this is the unique, exclusive indwelling of the one true God’s Spirit, never a shrine housing one deity-image among many, and never to be read as validating temple-image devotion.
Idol
Approved rendering: मूर्ती
Transliteration: mūrtī
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἴδωλον
Category: Sin
NEW. ‘An idol has no real existence’ (8:4). Exact, ordinary Goan Hindu word for a temple deity-image (murti puja is central to Shantadurga, Mangueshi, Mahalasa worship). No safer synonym exists; a euphemism would falsify Paul’s directness. Route every occurrence for theologian review.
Idolatry
Approved rendering: मूर्तीपूजा
Transliteration: mūrtīpūjā
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἰδωλολατρία
Category: Sin
NEW. ‘Flee from idolatry’ (10:14); ‘what pagans sacrifice, they offer to demons’ (10:20). Precise, everyday term for the worship practice at Goan Hindu temples; must be handled with theological clarity holding both ‘an idol is nothing’ (8:4) and real spiritual danger (10:20) in tension, never as a blanket insult toward Hindu neighbors. Route every occurrence for theologian review.
Love
Approved rendering: प्रीती
Transliteration: prītī
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Rejected alternatives: माया, भक्ती
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith
NEW, book-defining risk — the single highest-priority forbidden substitution in this curriculum. NEVER माया (Advaita Vedantic term for cosmic illusion, the doctrinal opposite of ἀγάπη’s realism). Never भक्ती (devotee-to-deity devotional worship-love; wrong directionality for ch.13’s mutual, interpersonal, self-giving love). Ranked above prophecy, tongues, and knowledge (12:31-13:13).
Imperishable
Approved rendering: अविनाशी (always paired with शरीर)
Transliteration: avwināśī
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: unpaired अविनाशी
Original: ἄφθαρτος
Category: Eschatology
NEW, book-specific forbidden-substitution-adjacent flag. अविनाशी is the Bhagavad Gita’s own term (2:17) for the eternal, imperishable soul (Atman), explicitly distinct from the perishable body. Paul’s point in 15:42, 52 is the reverse: the body itself becomes imperishable. MUST always be paired with शरीर (अविनाशी शरीर), never left standing alone.
Resurrection Appearance
Approved rendering: दिसून आयलो
Transliteration: disūn āylo
Doctrine: Resurrection Appearances as Historical, Verifiable Witness
Rejected alternatives: दर्शन
Original: ὤφθη (ὁράω)
Category: Christology
NEW. ὤφθη (15:5-8) — real, bodily, objectively visible appearances of the risen Christ to named, nameable witnesses (Cephas, the Twelve, 500 brothers, James, Paul). MUST NOT be rendered दर्शन, the standard Konkani/Hindu devotional term for a deity becoming visible to a devotee (temple darshan); using it would assimilate verifiable historical eyewitness testimony to a category of devotional theophany. Use this plain perception-verb only.
For Our Sins
Approved rendering: आमच्या पापांखातीर
Transliteration: āmcyā pāpānkhātīr
Doctrine: Substitutionary Atonement
Original: ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν
Category: Salvation
NEW, compound of baseline पाप. ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν (15:3) — the sharpest doctrinal collision point in the entire book: karma doctrine, widely held in the Goan Hindu milieu, denies that one person’s deeds/consequences can be transferred to or borne by another; the gospel claims exactly this vicarious substitutionary transfer. Requires an explanatory translator note at every occurrence (15:3; cf. 5:7’s Passover-lamb echo).
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: सुवार्ता
Transliteration: suvārtā
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: बरी खबर, शुभवर्तमान
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Established Konkani/Marathi-family Bible term. In 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 names the fixed, guarded gospel content Paul ‘received’ and ‘delivered’ — must convey an authoritative, singular announcement, not one preacher’s opinion among Corinth’s rival factions (1:12).
Grace
Approved rendering: कृपा
Transliteration: kṛpā
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: कर्मफळ, पुण्य, नशीब
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Never कर्मफळ/पुण्य/नशीब. 15:9-10 (‘by the grace of God I am what I am… yet not I but the grace of God with me’) is 1 Corinthians’ single sharpest grace-vs-merit passage: Paul’s labor must read as grace’s fruit, never grace’s cause.
Faith
Approved rendering: विश्वास
Transliteration: viśvās
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा, भक्ती
Original: πίστις / πιστεύω
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Never भक्ती/श्रद्धा. In 15:2, 11, personal trust in the specific historical gospel content just recited (Christ’s death, burial, resurrection), not generalized devotional belief.
Saints
Approved rendering: पवित्र जन
Transliteration: pavitra jan
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: संत, भक्त
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Never संत (Varkari bhakti-poet category). Used in both the letter’s opening (1:2) and closing (16:1, 15); the corporate, non-elite sense must hold even though named individuals (Stephanas, Chloe’s people) also appear.
Holy
Approved rendering: पवित्र
Transliteration: pavitra
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्ध, निर्मळ
Inherited from Romans package. Root of पवित्र आत्मा, पवित्र जन, and the new compound पवित्र चुंबन (holy kiss, 16:20); keep morally/relationally set-apart sense, not ritual purity.
Called
Approved rendering: बोलावलेले
Transliteration: bolāvlele
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: आमंत्रित
Original: κλητός / κλῆσις / καλέω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 extends this vocabulary to a non-soteriological sense (one’s life ‘station’ at conversion); flag for reviewers so it is not confused with effectual calling to salvation (1:1-2, 1:9) or Paul’s own unworthy-calling language (15:9).
Calling
Approved rendering: बोलावणें
Transliteration: bolāvaṇẽ
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: आमंत्रण
Inherited from Romans package. Noun form; shares its verb root with ‘called’ for consistency across all 1 Corinthians occurrences.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: देवाचें सामर्थ्य
Transliteration: devāce sāmarthya
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: शक्ती
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER शक्ती. Dense concentration of use in 1 Corinthians 1:18-24, 2:5, 4:20 (kingdom in power not talk), and 12:10 (workings of miracles, चमत्कारांचें सामर्थ्य).
Father
Approved rendering: पिता
Transliteration: pitā
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्मा, निर्माणकार
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, reserved for God the Father (8:6). 1 Corinthians 4:15 extends the word metaphorically to Paul’s spiritual fatherhood of the Corinthian church (‘I became your father through the gospel’) — must be clearly marked as metaphorical and never conflated with the Critical, unique divine Fatherhood.
Sin
Approved rendering: पाप
Transliteration: pāp
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: अधर्म, अशुद्धता
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. ‘Christ died for our sins’ (15:3, आमच्या पापांखातीर) is the letter’s central atonement statement and its sharpest karma-collision point; see for_our_sins entry below.
Covenant
Approved rendering: करार
Transliteration: karār
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Rejected alternatives: समजूत
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. ‘This cup is the new करार in my blood’ (11:25) — keep the fuller relational-promise weight, not a lighter ‘agreement’ word.
Knowledge
Approved rendering: ज्ञान
Transliteration: jñān
Doctrine: The Wisdom of God versus Worldly Wisdom and Jnana-marga; Love as the Greater Way
Rejected alternatives: unqualified, unpaired ज्ञान
Original: γνῶσις
Category: Faith
NEW. Shares wisdom’s Jnana-marga collision risk. ‘Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up’ (8:1); ‘if I have all knowledge… but have not love, I am nothing’ (13:2). Must always be paired with प्रीती (love) at 13:2, 8 to avoid standing as an independent path to spiritual attainment.
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: व्यभिचार
Transliteration: vyabhicār
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sin
NEW. Ch.5’s specific case is incest (‘a man has his father’s wife’), ‘a kind not tolerated even among the pagans’ (5:1); must retain full moral seriousness and not be reduced to a private, victimless matter.
Hand Over To Satan
Approved rendering: सैतानाच्या हवाल्यान करप
Transliteration: saitānācyā havālyān karap
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: शाप (magical curse formula), बहिष्कार (caste-boycott exclusion)
Original: παραδοῦναι τῷ Σατανᾷ
Category: Sanctification
NEW. ‘Deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved’ (5:5) — must be framed as severe but restorative church discipline aimed at ultimate salvation, never a curse or magical malediction, and never framed via caste-boycott vocabulary.
Body
Approved rendering: शरीर
Transliteration: śarīr
Doctrine: Sexual Ethics and Bodily Holiness; Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ; The Resurrection of Believers
Original: σῶμα
Category: Church
NEW, central cross-chapter term (6:13-20 individual body; 11:29 sacramental body; 12:12-27 corporate body of Christ; 15:35-54 resurrection body). Must never be diminished as spiritually unimportant compared to the soul, a live risk given devotional frameworks that treat the body as illusory or disposable; keep consistent across all four senses.
Bought With A Price
Approved rendering: मोल दिवन विकत घेतलां
Transliteration: mol divan vikat ghetlã
Doctrine: Sexual Ethics and Bodily Holiness
Original: ἠγοράσθητε τιμῆς
Category: Salvation
NEW. ‘You were bought with a price; so glorify God in your body’ (6:20; cf. 7:23) — redemption imagery grounding holy living in the cost of redemption, not a bare commercial transaction devoid of grace.
Food Offered To Idols
Approved rendering: मूर्तींक अर्पिल्लें अन्न
Transliteration: mūrtīnk arpillẽ anna
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἰδωλόθυτον
Category: Sin
NEW. Meat ritually offered to a deity, later sold in the marketplace (ch.8) — retain the specific ritual background so readers understand this as a live pastoral issue, not an abstract dietary rule.
Table Of The Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभूचो मेज
Transliteration: prabhūco mej
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: τράπεζα κυρίου
Category: Covenant
NEW, built on baseline प्रभू. ‘You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons’ (10:21) — the Lord’s Supper as covenant meal, sharply contrasted with pagan sacrificial banquets.
Head Headship
Approved rendering: डोकें (literal) / मुखेलपण (metaphorical)
Transliteration: ḍokẽ / mukhelpaṇ
Doctrine: Order in Worship and Headship
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Ethics
NEW. ‘The head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, the head of Christ is God’ (11:3). Significant contemporary gender-role sensitivity; must not be read as denying the co-equal dignity Paul himself affirms in the same chapter (11:11-12). Route for combined native speaker and theologian review.
Lords Supper
Approved rendering: प्रभू भोजन
Transliteration: prabhū bhojan
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: κυριακὸν δεῖπνον
Category: Covenant
NEW compound term central to this doctrine. ‘When you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper that you eat’ (11:20) — keep consistent with ch.10’s प्रभूचो मेज.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: ख्रिस्ताचें शरीर
Transliteration: khristāce śarīr
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ

Silence Regulated
Approved rendering: मौन / गप्प रावप
Transliteration: maun / gapp rāvap
Doctrine: Order in Worship and Headship
Original: ἡσυχία / σιγάω
Category: Church
NEW. ‘The women should keep silent in the churches’ (14:34) — requires careful contextual framing (addressing a specific disorderly Corinthian situation) rather than an unqualified universal rule; route for combined native speaker and theologian review, same gender-sensitivity flag as head_headship.
Natural Body Spiritual Body
Approved rendering: प्राणिक शरीर / आत्मिक शरीर
Transliteration: prāṇik śarīr / ātmik śarīr
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Believers
Original: σῶμα ψυχικόν / σῶμα πνευματικόν
Category: Eschatology
NEW, reusing ch.2’s natural/spiritual distinction. ‘It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body’ (15:44) — ‘spiritual body’ must be clear as a real, physical body transformed by the Spirit, not a disembodied spirit-state, and not reincarnation into a new physical body.
Changed
Approved rendering: बदलतले
Transliteration: badaltale
Doctrine: Bodily Resurrection versus Reincarnation
Original: ἀλλάσσω
Category: Eschatology
NEW. ‘We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed’ (15:51) — must not be read as one more cycle of rebirth/transformation (punarjanma); a final, once-for-all glorification of the same body, consistent with पुनरुत्थान, never reincarnation.
Accursed
Approved rendering: शापित
Transliteration: śāpit
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: शाप (sage’s/deity’s magical curse framing)
Original: ἀνάθεμα
Category: Church
NEW. ‘If anyone has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed’ (16:22) — must be framed as God’s own judgment of formal covenantal exclusion, consistent with ch.5’s restorative-discipline framing, never equated with a magical curse common in regional Puranic narrative. Route for theologian review.
Received Tradition
Approved rendering: स्वीकारलें / सोंपवन दिलें
Transliteration: svīkārlẽ / sompavan dilẽ
Doctrine: Apostolic Tradition and the Transmission of the Gospel
Rejected alternatives: personal testimony/private opinion framing
Original: παραλαμβάνω / παραδίδωμι
Category: Covenant
NEW. The technical receiving-and-handing-on pair (παραλαμβάνω/παραδίδωμι, 15:1, 3; also 11:2, 23) for the fixed, guarded apostolic deposit of gospel content, older than the letter itself. Must be rendered as formal transmission of received creedal content, not personal testimony or individually branded teaching — directly relevant to the letter’s warnings against personality-centered factionalism (ch.1, 3). Flag vv.1 and 3 together for reviewer consistency.
According To The Scriptures
Approved rendering: शास्त्रांप्रमाण
Transliteration: śāstrāmpramāṇ
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: κατὰ τὰς γραφάς
Category: Covenant
NEW. ‘According to the Scriptures’ (κατὰ τὰς γραφάς, 15:3, 4) — marks linear historical fulfillment of specific OT prophecy (e.g. Isaiah 53), not the cyclical avatar-descent pattern of regional temple devotional narrative. Keep the fixed phrase invariant across both occurrences.
Medium Risk Terms
Church
Approved rendering: मंडळी
Transliteration: maṇḍaḷī
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: देऊळ, मंदिर
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Never देऊळ/मंदिर. ‘The church of God that is in Corinth’ (1:2) and ‘the church of God’ Paul once persecuted (15:9) — the local, covenant assembly, not a building or caste-segregated gathering.
Apostle
Approved rendering: प्रेषित
Transliteration: preṣit
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: दूत, गुरू
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Never गुरू. Covers Paul’s contested apostleship (9:1-2) and the wider apostolic circle who witnessed the risen Christ (15:7, 9).
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: आत्मिक वरदान
Transliteration: ātmik varadān
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: वरदान, सिद्धी
Original: χαρίσματα
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Never वरदान alone. Chapter 12 (12:4, 9) has this book’s densest concentration of gift-vocabulary; reaffirm the qualifier at every one of the nine gifts listed in 12:8-10.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: देवाचें राज्य
Transliteration: devāce rājya
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: देवाचें राष्ट्र
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Corinthians 4:20 (‘the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power’) and 6:9-10 (moral seriousness of inheriting it).
Foolishness
Approved rendering: मूर्खपण
Transliteration: mūrkhapaṇ
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: μωρία
Category: Faith
NEW. ‘The word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing’ (1:18) — must retain Paul’s ironic double meaning: genuinely foolish-seeming to the world, genuinely God’s wisdom in fact.
Divisions
Approved rendering: फूट
Transliteration: phūṭ
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Original: σχίσματα
Category: Church
NEW. ‘That there be no divisions among you’ (1:10); recurs at 11:18 (Lord’s Supper) and 12:25 (body of Christ). Use the identical Konkani word across all three occurrences for cross-chapter consistency, since the Greek root σχίσμα is the same in each.
Quarreling
Approved rendering: भांडण / वाद
Transliteration: bhāṇḍaṇ / vād
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Original: ἔρις
Category: Church
NEW. Rivalry and contentiousness underlying the Corinthian party-slogans (1:11; 3:3).
Boasting
Approved rendering: फुशारकी मारप
Transliteration: phuśārkī mārap
Doctrine: Grace versus Merit in Apostolic Identity and Labor

Mystery
Approved rendering: रहस्य
Transliteration: rahasya
Doctrine: The Wisdom of God versus Worldly Wisdom and Jnana-marga
Rejected alternatives: esoteric guru-lineage ‘secret teaching’ framing
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Faith
NEW. ‘We impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God’ (2:7); ‘stewards of the mysteries of God’ (4:1); ‘behold I tell you a mystery’ (15:51). Must be marked as revealed by God to all believers, not esoteric knowledge reserved for a spiritual elite.
Natural Person
Approved rendering: प्राणिक मनीस
Transliteration: prāṇik manīs
Doctrine: The Wisdom of God versus Worldly Wisdom and Jnana-marga

Approved rendering: आत्मिक मनीस
Transliteration: ātmik manīs
Doctrine: The Wisdom of God versus Worldly Wisdom and Jnana-marga
Original: πνευματικός

Mind Of Christ
Approved rendering: ख्रिस्ताचें मन
Transliteration: khristāce man
Doctrine: The Wisdom of God versus Worldly Wisdom and Jnana-marga
Original: νοῦς Χριστοῦ
Category: Faith
NEW. ‘We have the mind of Christ’ (2:16) — climactic claim of Spirit-given understanding, not self-attained gnosis.
Steward
Approved rendering: कारभारी
Transliteration: kārbhārī
Doctrine: Stewardship and Ministry
Rejected alternatives: नोकर (servant, no authority), independent guru-authority framing
Original: οἰκονόμος
Category: Church
NEW. ‘Stewards of the mysteries of God’ (4:1) and ‘I discipline my body’ framing (9:16-27) — a trusted, accountable household manager, distinct from both a powerless servant and a self-authorized guru.
Leaven
Approved rendering: खमीर / बेखमिरी
Transliteration: khamīr / bekhamirī
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: ζύμη / ἄζυμος
Category: Sanctification
NEW. Passover imagery: sin as a small corrupting agent spreading through the community (5:6-8); requires an explanatory note on the OT Passover background at first occurrence, since it has no native cultural resonance.
Join Unite
Approved rendering: एकठाय जावप
Transliteration: ekaṭhāy jāvap
Doctrine: Sexual Ethics and Bodily Holiness
NEW. ‘He who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her’ (6:16) — sexual union as a real, not merely symbolic, joining.
Marriage
Approved rendering: लग्न
Transliteration: lagna
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: γάμος
Category: Ethics
NEW. Present as good and God-ordained (7:1-40), equally dignified alongside singleness. Avoid importing the elaborate ritual sacredness of Goan Hindu wedding custom, which Paul’s pragmatic argument does not assume.

Transliteration: kumārī
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
NEW. ‘Concerning the betrothed… it is good for him to remain as he is’ (7:25-38).
Divorce
Approved rendering: वेगळे जावप / घटस्फोट
Transliteration: vegḷe jāvap / ghaṭsphoṭ
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: χωρίζω
Category: Ethics
NEW. ‘Let not the wife separate from her husband’ (7:10-16) — pastoral-sensitivity flag given the social weight of divorce in Konkani/Goan family structures; route for native speaker review.
Bondservant
Approved rendering: गुलाम
Transliteration: gulām
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness; Christian Identity in Christ
Original: δοῦλος
Category: Ethics
NEW. ‘Were you a slave when called?… you are a slave of Christ’ (7:21-22) — must be clearly glossed as willing, honored belonging to Christ, not degrading bondage, given regional histories of servitude.
Self Control
Approved rendering: आत्मसंयम
Transliteration: ātmasanyam
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: ἐγκράτεια
Category: Ethics
NEW. ‘If they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry’ (7:9) — must be distinguished from indriya-nigraha, ascetic sense-mastery pursued as a merit-earning spiritual discipline; here a practical, non-meritorious virtue.
Conscience
Approved rendering: विवेकबुद्धी
Transliteration: vivekabuddhī
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Conscience
Original: συνείδησις
Category: Ethics

Demons
Approved rendering: भूत-पिशाच
Transliteration: bhūt-piśāch
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: δαιμόνια
Category: Sin
NEW. ‘What pagans sacrifice, they offer to demons and not to God’ (10:20). Must be distinguished from Konkani folk-belief bhoot-pisach (restless human ghosts) and from mythological asura/rakshasa beings; biblical demons are fallen spiritual beings under God’s judgment. Route for native speaker review.

Approved rendering: डोकें झांकप
Transliteration: ḍokẽ jhāṅkap
Doctrine: Order in Worship and Headship
Original: κατακαλύπτω
Category: Ethics
NEW. ‘Any wife who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors her head’ (11:5) — frame via first-century honor/shame custom, noting existing regional dress norms (e.g. pallu/sari veil) only as cultural resonance, not equivalence, and never as a timeless isolated rule.
Bread
Approved rendering: भाकर

Original: ἀναξίως
Category: Covenant
NEW. ‘Whoever eats… in an unworthy manner will be guilty’ (11:27) — must be framed as a warning against factional/careless participation in its historical context, not a general merit-worthiness test that would contradict the letter’s own grace-versus-merit argument (1:26-31, 4:7, 15:9-10).
Discern The Body
Approved rendering: वळखप / परखप
Transliteration: vaḷkhap / parkhap
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: διακρίνω (τὸ σῶμα)

Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Original: τὸ τέλειον
Category: Eschatology

Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: ἔσχατος Ἀδάμ
Category: Christology

Doctrine: Hope of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: fully paraphrased ‘Our Lord, come’ as the primary rendering
Original: μαράνα θά

Transliteration: pavitra cumban
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Original: φίλημα ἅγιον
