Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Acts 1–28 (English → Konkani)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, covering all 28 chapters of Acts. Terms already fixed by the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked [baseline TM] and MUST be reused exactly, with no alternative renderings permitted. New terms required by Acts are marked [NEW] and are proposed for addition to translation memory before Phase 2 processing begins, per the baseline’s term-registration procedure (12_ai_translation_requirements.md, “Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions”).
Risk tiers (Critical/High/Medium/Low) follow the baseline’s exact definitions.

Acts 2:1; 20:16; 1 Cor 16:8 (cross-ref). |
| 2 | filled with the Holy Spirit | Holy Spirit & Pentecost | Critical | πλησθῆναι πνεύματος ἁγίου | plēsthēnai pneumatos hagiou | पवित्र आत्म्यान भरप् | आवेश येवप् (spirit/deity-possession idiom) | MUST be distinguished from Goan folk-Hindu trance/possession phenomena (आवेश/अंगारो येणें). | 12 | the Way | Church as Community / Great Commission | High | ἡ ὁδός | hē hodos | वाट (always qualified: ख्रिस्ताची वाट / प्रभूची वाट) | मार्ग (Sanskrit-loaded; overlaps with pluralistic “one of several valid spiritual paths” Hindu theology) | Deliberately avoids मार्ग given its established use for bhakti-mārga/jñāna-mārga/karma-mārga plurality; वाट is plainer and always exclusively qualified. Acts 9:2; 18:25-26; 19:9,23; 22:4; 24:14,22. |
| 13 | common / [ritually] unclean | Gospel to Jews & Gentiles | High | κοινός | koinos | अशुद्ध (contrasted with देवान शुद्ध केल्लें) | अस्पृश्य (untouchable — avoid due to direct caste-hierarchy loading, though the underlying social risk must still be flagged in teaching notes) | Pivot term for Gentile inclusion; carries real weight given Goa’s caste-purity social dynamics. Acts 10:14-15,28; 11:8-9. |
| 14 | God shows no partiality | Gospel to Jews & Gentiles | High | οὐκ ἔστιν προσωπολήμπτης ὁ θεός | ouk estin prosōpolēmptēs ho theos | देव कोणाचोय पक्षपात करिना | — | Directly confronts caste-based/communal spiritual hierarchy. Acts 10:34. |
| 15 | Christian (identity label) | Church as Community | Medium | Χριστιανός | Christianos | ख्रिस्ती | — | Positive new corporate identity transcending Jew/Gentile categories; consistent with baseline’s existing use of “ख्रिस्ती सहभागिता.” Acts 11:26; 26:28. |

| 19 | circumcision | Justification apart from the Law | High | περιτομή | peritomē | सुंता | — | Not required for Gentile salvation (Acts 15); physical covenant sign of the old covenant, superseded as a salvation-requirement. Acts 15:1,5; 16:3; 21:21. |

| 22 | spirit of divination | Persecution & Miracles | High | πνεῦμα πύθωνος | pneuma pythōnos | भविष्य सांगपी दुष्ट आत्मो | ज्योतिषी-आत्मो (avoid conflating with baseline’s rejected “prophet” alternative, but note the connection) | Clearly evil, occult-divinatory spirit sharply distinguished from the Holy Spirit; connects to baseline’s rejection of ज्योतिषी for “prophet.” Acts 16:16-18. |
| 23 | unknown god | Gospel to Jews & Gentiles (apologetics) | High | ἄγνωστος θεός | agnōstos theos | अज्ञात देव | — | Apologetic bridge-term; must not be misused to support religious pluralism (“all paths lead to the same unknown god”); always paired with एकच खरो देव. Acts 17:23. |
| 24 | idol(s) | Gospel to Jews & Gentiles (apologetics) | Critical (pastoral sensitivity) | εἴδωλον | eidōlon | मूर्ती | — | Same word as Hindu temple images; requires the most careful pastoral framing in the curriculum — preserve theological clarity (idols do not represent the true God) without gratuitous insult to devotees. Acts 15:20; 17:16; 19:26. |
| 25 | ascension / taken up | Apostolic Authority (Christology) | High | ἀνελήμφθη / ἀνάλημψις | anelēmphthē / analēmpsis | वयर व्हरणें | अवतार-परत जाणें (avoid any avatar-style withdrawal/return framing) | Bodily, visible, historical, once-for-all departure to heaven, not a repeatable avatar pattern. Acts 1:2,9,11,22. |
| 26 | Nazirite vow | Church as Community (cultural-legal background) | Medium | εὐχή (Ναζιραίου) | euchē (Naziraiou) | नाजीर व्रत | — (retain व्रत with an explanatory note) | व्रत is a common Hindu term for a merit/austerity vow; here names a specific OT-rooted, time-bound consecration vow, not a merit-generating ascetic practice. Acts 21:23-24,26. |
| 27 | God’s determined plan and foreknowledge | Providence (Acts-specific compressed phrase) | High | ὡρισμένη βουλὴ καὶ πρόγνωσις τοῦ θεοῦ | hōrismenē boulē kai prognōsis tou theou | देवाचो थारावील्लो हेत आनी पूर्वज्ञान | नशीब/प्रारब्ध (CRITICAL to avoid, per baseline providence entry) | Personal, purposive divine plan held together with real human guilt; never impersonal fate. | 30 | angel of the Lord | Apostolic Authority & Miracles | Medium | ἄγγελος κυρίου | angelos kyriou | प्रभूचो देवदूत | देवी/देव (avoid implying an independently worshipped being) | A subordinate created heavenly messenger, distinct from independently venerated regional deities. Acts 5:19; 8:26; 12:7,23; 27:23. |
| 31 | deeds worthy of repentance | Conversion & Repentance | High | ἔργα ἄξια τῆς μετανοίας | erga axia tēs metanoias | पश्चात्तापाक शोबणारीं कामां | नीतिमत्ता कमावप् (works-earning framing — avoid) | Evidence of, not the earning cause of, forgiveness; must not read as works-righteousness. Transliteration: mūrtī
Doctrine: The Gospel to Jews and Gentiles
Original: εἴδωλον
Category: Gospel to Jews and Gentiles

Conversion Doctrine Label
Approved rendering: (no fixed Scripture-text term — narrate the event directly; do not use a doctrine-label noun in translated Scripture)
Transliteration: —
Doctrine: Conversion of Paul
Rejected alternatives: धर्मांतर, मतपरिवर्तन
CURRICULUM-LEVEL GAP flagged at Step 8 (06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md §1.7/§2.1). धर्मांतर is Goa’s standard administrative/media term for religious conversion but is inseparably associated with coercive Inquisition-era and colonial-era conversion campaigns; मतपरिवर्तन under-sells the depth of Paul’s transformation. Do NOT use either as a fixed doctrine-label term in translated Scripture text (Acts 9, 22, 26 simply narrate the event). Reserve any doctrine-label discussion for teacher’s-guide material only, explicitly framed as God’s sovereign, gracious, non-coercive turning of a persecutor into a witness — the structural opposite of any coercive mass-conversion campaign. Requires theologian sign-off on the teacher’s-guide framing language before use.
