Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Ephesians — English–Maithili
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified across the full-book analysis in 07_semantic_analysis.md, covering Ephesians 1–6. Section A lists terms already established in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json/bible_term_registry.json that recur in Ephesians and MUST be reused exactly with no re-derivation. Section B lists new terms introduced by Ephesians, organized by the curriculum’s nine doctrines, each with a proposed Maithili rendering, risk tier, and rationale, pending Phase 2 confirmation and entry into an updated translation memory.
Risk tiers follow the baseline definitions: Critical (destroys essential doctrine if mistranslated; mandatory theologian review of every occurrence), High (creates significant confusion/syncretism risk; mandatory theologian review), Medium (reduces clarity but preserves core meaning; native speaker review recommended), Low (minor imprecision; automated review sufficient).

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| predestined / predestination | προορίζω | पहिनहिं ठहराओल जाएब | pahinahĩ ṭharāol jāeb | Critical | NEVER प्रारब्ध, भाग्य, किस्मत (fate/karma-determined destiny). Built on same passive pattern as baseline’s “called”/“calling” for family consistency. Mandatory theologian review, 1:5 and 1:11. |
| the Beloved (Christ) | ἠγαπημένος | प्रियतम | priyatam | Medium | Distinguish from Krishna-bhakti “priya”/beloved-devotee poetic vocabulary. |
| prepared beforehand | προετοιμάζω | पहिनहिं तैयार कएल | pahinahĩ taiyār kael | High | Same fate-avoidance caution as predestination; personal divine intentionality, not impersonal fate. |
| chosen before the foundation of the world | (πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου) | संसारक नींव पड़लासँ पहिने चुनल गेल | saṃsārak nĩv paḍalāsã̃ pahine cunal gel | High | Reuse परमेश्वरक चुनाव (baseline “election”) with this temporal qualifier; must retain eternal, pre-creation scope. |
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mystery | μυστήριον | भेद | bhed | Critical | REJECTED: रहस्य (too closely tied to Tantric/esoteric secret-knowledge tradition, e.g. Ugratara shrine practice). Every occurrence requires a “previously hidden, now openly revealed to all” translator note. Occurrences: 1:9, 3:3-4, 3:6, 3:9, 5:32, 6:19. |
| stewardship / administration / plan | οἰκονομία | प्रबन्ध | prabandh | Medium | Neutral administrative term; low syncretism risk. |
| revelation | ἀποκάλυψις | प्रकाशन | prakāśan | Medium | Distinct from Puranic avatar-revelation narrative framing; low overlap risk. |
| unite/recapitulate all things in Christ | ἀνακεφαλαιόω | सब वस्तुकेँ ख्रीष्टक शिरमे एक करब | sab vastukẽ Khrīṣṭak śirme ek karab | High | Must render as full descriptive clause, not single word, to preserve theological richness. |
| manifold wisdom | πολυποίκιλος σοφία | नाना प्रकारक बुद्धि | nānā prakārak buddhi | Medium | बुद्धि preferred over ज्ञान to reduce (not eliminate) jñāna-mārga (knowledge-as-liberation) association. |
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith (terms beyond baseline)
| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| works (as ground rejected) | ἔργα | काज | kāj | Critical | REJECTED: कर्म (too closely tied to karma-causality/rebirth worldview). Central to Eph 2:9’s grace/works exclusion clause; mandatory theologian review. |
| gift (of God) | δῶρον | परमेश्वरक उपहार | parameśvarak upahār | High | Distinguish from वरदान (a boon granted for austerity/devotion, baseline caution on spiritual_gifts) — this gift is explicitly NOT a response to merit or devotion. |
| boast | καυχάομαι | घमण्ड करब | ghamaṇḍ karab | High | Anti-merit climax of 2:9; must not be softened into mere modesty-etiquette. |
| workmanship | ποίημα | रचना | racnā | Medium | God’s creative act upon the believer, not self-attained spiritual accomplishment. |
| created (in Christ) | κτίζω | बनाओल / सृजित | banāol / sṛjit | Medium | Echo of Genesis creation language; straightforward. |
| dead (in trespasses) | νεκρός | मृत | mṛt | Medium | Total spiritual inability, not diminished capacity awaiting self-effort. |
| trespasses | παράπτωμα | अपराध | aparādh | Low-Medium | Paired with पाप (sin, baseline) for act vs. condition distinction. |
| made alive together with Christ | συζωοποιέω | ख्रीष्टक संग जीवित कएल | Khrīṣṭak saṅg jīvit kael | High | Never evokes पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation, forbidden per baseline); a share in Christ’s own resurrection. |
| mercy | ἔλεος | दया | dayā | Medium | Permitted here (non-salvific compassion-toward-the-guilty sense); distinct from अनुग्रह itself. |
| love (agape) | ἀγάπη | प्रेम | prem | Medium | Distinguish from काम (sensual desire) and from bhakti-style devotional love directed upward by a worshipper. |
| wrath (of God) | ὀργή | परमेश्वरक क्रोध | parameśvarak krodh | High | Personal, moral, judicial anger — not impersonal कर्मफल (karmic consequence, already rejected in baseline for “grace”). |
| redemption | ἀπολύτρωσις | छुटकारा | chuṭkārā | High | Per baseline: permitted specifically “in specific rescue-narrative contexts,” which this is (1:7). |
| forgiveness | ἄφεσις | क्षमा | kṣamā | Medium | Standard; distinct from baseline’s rejected “क्षमा भेटब” for justification specifically. |
| blood (of Christ) | αἷμα | लहू | lahū | High/Critical | Must be distinguished from goddess-shrine animal-blood sacrifice (बलि, e.g. Ugratara); Christ’s is a self-given, once-for-all atoning act, not a favor-petitioning ritual offering. |

| access | προσαγωγή | पहुँच | pahũch | Medium | Direct, unmediated access — notable given Panjikaran/Ojha intermediary social patterns. |
| fellow citizens | συμπολῖται | सहनागरिक | sahanāgarik | Medium | Straightforward. |
| household of God | οἰκεῖοι τοῦ θεοῦ | परमेश्वरक घरानाक सदस्य | parameśvarak gharānāk sadasya | Medium | Reinforces Adoption doctrine corporately. |
| fellow heirs / fellow body-members / fellow partakers | συγκληρονόμα / σύσσωμα / συμμέτοχα | सहवारिस / देहमे सहभागी / प्रतिज्ञाक सहभागी | sahavāris / dehme sahabhāgī / pratijñāk sahabhāgī | High | The “सह-” (co-/fellow-) prefix must stay visibly consistent across all three to preserve the full-equality argument. |

| strangers / aliens | ξένοι | परदेशी | paradeśī | Low | Straightforward. |

| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| body (of Christ) | σῶμα | ख्रीष्टक देह | Khrīṣṭak deh | Medium | Consistent with देहधारण’s root sense of a unified, real, organic whole. |
| holy temple / dwelling place | ναὸς ἅγιος / κατοικητήριον | पवित्र धाम / निवासस्थान | pavitra dhām / nivāsasthān | Critical | NEVER मन्दिर — would directly reopen baseline’s settled church≠मन्दिर distinction (2:21-22). Flag as new collision point beyond Romans baseline. |
| fullness (of Christ/God/him who fills all in all) | πλήρωμα | परिपूर्णता | paripūrṇatā | High | Requires consistent handling across 1:23, 3:19, 4:13; theologically rich, cross-referenced Christology and ecclesiology. |
| unity (of the Spirit) | ἑνότης | एकता | ekatā | High | Must be shown as Spirit-produced and cross-grounded, not generic social-harmony rhetoric. |
| bond of peace | σύνδεσμος τῆς εἰρήνης | शान्तिक बन्धन | śāntik bandhan | Medium | Reuses शान्ति (baseline). |
| baptism | βάπτισμα | बपतिस्मा | bapatismā | Medium | Established North Indian Bible transliteration. |
| hope | ἐλπίς | आशा | āśā | Medium | Standard. |
| mature manhood | ἀνὴρ τέλειος | पूर्ण / परिपक्व मनुष्य | pūrṇa / paripakva manuṣya | High | NEVER सिद्ध (siddha) — heavily loaded Nath-yogi/Tantric term for one attaining supernatural perfection through ascetic practice. |
| old self / new self | παλαιὸς / καινὸς ἄνθρωπος | पुरान मनुष्य / नब मनुष्य | purān manuṣya / nab manuṣya | Medium-High | Keep distinct in context from ch.2’s corporate “one new man” despite shared root. |
| grieve the Holy Spirit | λυπεῖν τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον | पवित्र आत्माकेँ दुखी करब | pavitra ātmākẽ dukhī karab | High | Textual anchor for the Spirit’s personhood; reinforces baseline’s ब्रह्म/परमात्मा exclusion. |
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| evangelist | εὐαγγελιστής | सुसमाचार प्रचारक | susamācār pracārak | Low-Medium | Built on established सुसमाचार प्रचार (baseline “mission”). |
| pastor / shepherd | ποιμήν | रखवार | rakhavār | Medium-High | AVOID literal shepherd terms (e.g. गड़ेरिया), which double as a North Indian shepherd-caste name; abstract “guardian/keeper” avoids caste-occupation collision. |
| teacher | διδάσκαλος | शिक्षक | śikṣak | Low | Standard. |
| equipping | καταρτισμός | सुसज्जित करब | susajjit karab | Low-Medium | Straightforward. |
| building up (the body) | οἰκοδομή | पारस्परिक उन्नति (reuse) + ख्रीष्टक देह | — | Low | Reuse baseline’s mutual_edification term, applied corporately. |
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| submitting to one another | ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις | अधीन होयब (मुतुआली) | adhīn hoeb | High | Must retain the MUTUAL force of 5:21 distinct from the wife-specific instruction of 5:22-24; risk of collapsing into one-directional reading given regional patriarchal norms. |
| head | κεφαλή | शिर | śir | Medium-High | Controlling term is Christ’s self-giving love (5:25), not raw authority; must not lose this qualifier. |
| savior of the body | σωτὴρ τοῦ σώματος | उद्धारकर्ता | uddhārkartā | Low-Medium | Direct derivation from उद्धार (baseline). |
| one flesh | μία σάρξ | एक देह | ek deh | Low-Medium | Straightforward. |

| bondservants / slaves | δοῦλοι | दास | dās | Low-Medium | Established term; note dual usage (also “servant of Christ” elsewhere). |
| masters (human, distinct from “Lord”) | κύριοι κατὰ σάρκα | मालिक | mālik | Medium (context-sensitive disambiguation required) | CRITICAL to keep distinct from प्रभु (Lord, reserved exclusively for Christ/God, baseline Critical term); baseline’s own rejected-alternatives list for “lord” already earmarks मालिक as the correct human-master term. |
| eye-service | ὀφθαλμοδουλία | देखाबटीक सेवा | dekhābaṭīk sevā | Low-Medium | Straightforward. |
| no partiality | προσωπολημψία | पक्षपात (नहि करब) | pakṣapāt | High | Extends Universal Human Accountability doctrine across master/slave and, by extension, caste/status lines. |
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| whole armor of God | πανοπλία τοῦ θεοῦ | परमेश्वरक सम्पूर्ण हथियार | parameśvarak sampūrṇa hathiyār | High/Critical | AVOID/USE WITH CAUTION: अस्त्र (mythological divine weapon, e.g. Brahmastra), कवच (mythological invincible armor, e.g. Karna’s kavach). Requires translator note distinguishing from epic divine-weapon imagery. |
| devil | διάβολος | शैतान | śaitān | Critical | Established transliteration; requires note distinguishing from (a) epic antagonist-figures (e.g. Ravana) and (b) folk bhoot-pret spirits addressed by Ojha ritual. Singular, personal, defeated-yet-active adversary. |
| schemes of the devil | μεθοδεία τοῦ διαβόλου | शैतानक चाल | śaitānak cāl | High | Organized strategic deception, not diffuse misfortune. |
| rulers, authorities, cosmic powers of this darkness, spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places | ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι, κοσμοκράτορες τοῦ σκότους τούτου, πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις | शासक, अधिकारी, ई अन्हार संसारक बलवान शासक, आकाशीय क्षेत्रक दुष्ट आत्मिक शक्तिसभ | śāsak, adhikārī, ī anhār saṃsārak balavān śāsak, ākāśīya kṣetrak duṣṭ ātmik śaktisabh | Critical — new doctrine cluster | Direct collision with living Ojha-exorcism/bhoot-pret folk tradition. NOTE: शक्ति used here only as a plain plural noun (“powers/forces”) — a deliberately controlled exception to baseline’s शक्ति-prohibition (which targets शक्ति as a name/title for God’s own power); flag explicitly for reviewer awareness. Mandatory theologian review, 1:21, 3:10, 6:12. |
| ruler of the power of the air | ἄρχων τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος | आकाशक अधिकार रखनिहार शासक | ākāśak adhikār rakhanihār śāsak | High | Personal, singular, organized authority — not a generic bhoot-pret. |
| heavenly places | ἐπουράνιος | स्वर्गीय स्थान | svargīya sthān | High | Distinguish from Puranic स्वर्ग (temporary karma-earned heavenly abode); names Christ’s reign and the arena of spiritual conflict. |
| age / this age, the age to come | αἰών | (context-dependent; avoid युग where possible) | — | Critical | Never युग without a mandatory distinguishing note from cyclical yuga cosmology; recurs 1:21, 2:2, 2:7, 3:9, 3:21. |
| belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit / word of God | ζώνη τῆς ἀληθείας, θώραξ τῆς δικαιοσύνης, ὑποδησάμενοι…εὐαγγελίου τῆς εἰρήνης, θυρεὸς τῆς πίστεως, περικεφαλαία τοῦ σωτηρίου, μάχαιρα τοῦ πνεύματος = ῥῆμα θεοῦ | सत्यक पेटी, धार्मिकताक छाती-कवच, शान्तिक सुसमाचारक जूता, विश्वासक ढाल, उद्धारक टोप, आत्माक तरवार (जे परमेश्वरक वचन थिक) | — | Medium (set); each virtue-word Critical/High individually via reuse | Every virtue term reuses its established baseline rendering exactly (धार्मिकता, सुसमाचार, शान्ति, विश्वास, उद्धार); consistency across the whole armor list is the primary requirement. |
| word of God (rhema) | ῥῆμα θεοῦ | परमेश्वरक वचन | parameśvarak vacan | Low-Medium | Standard. |
| power cluster: might, working, dominion, strength | δύναμις, ἐνέργεια, κράτος, ἰσχύς | सामर्थ्य (reuse), प्रभावशाली क्रिया, पराक्रम, बल | sāmarthya, prabhāvśālī kriyā, parākram, bal | High | NEVER शक्ति for any of these four (Shakta-goddess association per baseline); consistent rendering required across 1:19 and 6:10. |
| ambassador in chains | πρεσβεύω ἐν ἁλύσει | साँकरमे राजदूत | sã̃karme rājdūt | Low-Medium | Ties to प्रेरित (apostle, baseline) as authorized representative. |
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
| English term | Greek | Maithili proposed | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| walk (conduct of life) | περιπατέω | चलब / आचरण करब | calab / ācaraṇ karab | Low | Recurs 2:2, 2:10, 4:1, 4:17, 5:2, 5:8, 5:15; preserve the “walked in death → walk in good works” contrast with a consistent root verb. |
| imitators of God | μιμηταὶ τοῦ θεοῦ | परमेश्वरक अनुकरण करएबला | parameśvarak anukaraṇ karaebalā | High | Reflecting God’s moral character, not mystical identification/absorption into the divine (contra intense bhakti-imitation of a deity’s life). |
| offering and sacrifice | προσφορὰ καὶ θυσία | भेंट आ अर्पण | bheṇṭ ā arpaṇ | High | AVOID बलिदान due to close association with regional goddess-shrine animal-blood sacrifice (बलि); requires clarifying note. |
| sexual immorality, impurity, covetousness = idolatry | πορνεία, ἀκαθαρσία, πλεονεξία = εἰδωλολατρία | व्यभिचार, अशुद्धता, लोभ = मूर्तिपूजा | vyabhicār, aśuddhatā, lobh = mūrtipūjā | Critical | The equation with मूर्तिपूजा (image-worship) is the single most culturally sensitive individual clause in the book; mandatory theologian-reviewed note clarifying Paul’s comparative logic (greed functions as a rival god), not a blanket condemnation of the neighboring tradition. |
| children of light / darkness | τέκνα φωτός / σκότος | ज्योतिक सन्तान / अन्हारक सन्तान | jyotik santān / anhārak santān | High | ज्योति (light) risk compounded by Chhath festival’s Sūrya (sun) veneration; requires disambiguating note. |
| be filled with the Spirit | πληροῦσθε ἐν πνεύματι | पवित्र आत्मासँ भरल होयब | pavitra ātmāsã̃ bharal hoeb | High | Distinguish from folk possession-trance (आवेश/संचरण) practiced in regional goddess-worship/Ojha ritual; ongoing fruitful yielding, not ecstatic trance-possession. |
| psalms, hymns, spiritual songs | ψαλμοῖς, ὕμνοις, ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς | भजन, स्तुतिगान, आत्मिक गीत | bhajan, stutigān, ātmik gīt | Medium | भजन carries bhakti-genre association; likely acceptable with a clarifying note that the object of praise is Christ. |
| grieve (Holy Spirit) — see also Church section | λυπέω | दुखी करब | dukhī karab | High | See Church as Body of Christ doctrine entry above. |
| redeeming the time | ἐξαγοραζόμενοι τὸν καιρόν | समयक सदुपयोग करब | samayak sadupayog karab | Low-Medium | Standard idiom for wise use of time. |
| enlightened eyes of the heart | πεφωτισμένους τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τῆς καρδίας | मनक आँखि प्रकाशित होयब | manak ā̃khi prakāśit hoeb | High | Distinguish from Buddhist/Hindu self-attained enlightenment (bodhi/moksha-jñāna); this is Spirit-given understanding of revealed gospel truth. |
| wisdom / (full) knowledge | σοφία / ἐπίγνωσις | बुद्धि / पूर्ण ज्ञान | buddhi / pūrṇa jñān | Medium-High | ज्ञान carries jñāna-mārga (knowledge-as-liberation) association in Vedantic soteriology; use with a clarifying note where “full knowledge of God” appears. |

Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dhārmiktā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, पुण्य, सतीत्व
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. In Ephesians 6:14 it also functions as protective spiritual equipment (breastplate); must retain its grace-based, not duty-earned, character even in that martial image.
Salvation
Approved rendering: उद्धार
Transliteration: uddhār
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति, मोक्ष, छुटकारा
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. NEVER मुक्ति or मोक्ष. Ephesians 2:8’s ‘by grace you have been saved’ (अनुग्रहसँ तोहर उद्धार भेल छौ) must preserve the perfect-passive completed sense.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: पुनरुत्थान
Transliteration: punaruthān
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म, पुनर्जीवन
Original: ἐγείρας ἐκ νεκρῶν
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. NEVER पुनर्जन्म. Anchors Ephesians 2:5-6’s ‘made alive together’/‘raised us up with him’ language to this once-for-all event, not a repeatable rebirth.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्वामी, मालिक
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly, always for divine Lordship. In Ephesians 6:5-9 the SAME Greek root also names ordinary human slave-owners; that human sense MUST be rendered मालिक (see ‘masters’ entry below), never प्रभु, so divine Lordship is never blurred with human ownership.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक पुत्र
Transliteration: parameśvarak putra
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वरक अंश, देवपुरुष
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Goal of the church’s maturing ‘knowledge of the Son of God’ (4:13).
Jesus
Approved rendering: यीशु
Transliteration: Yīśu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईसा
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Never ईसा.
God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर
Transliteration: parameśvar
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: भगवान, ईश्वर
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Never भगवान or ईश्वर.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्मा
Transliteration: pavitra ātmā
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्म, परमात्मा
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Never ब्रह्म or परमात्मा. Ephesians’ ‘grieve the Holy Spirit’ (4:30) and ‘be filled with the Spirit’ (5:18) are especially strong textual anchors for personhood that must not be flattened into an impersonal force or possession-trance experience.
Father
Approved rendering: पिता
Transliteration: pitā
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्मा, सृष्टिकर्ता
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Source of every family in heaven and on earth (3:14-15) and object of access through Christ (2:18).
Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: आरोपित धार्मिकता
Transliteration: āropit dhārmiktā
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: अर्जित धार्मिकता, सती-धर्म
Original: (conceptual background to ἐλογίσθη εἰς δικαιοσύνην)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly as cross-reference background to Ephesians 2:8-9’s grace/faith/not-of-works formula; never अर्जित (earned).
Predestined
Approved rendering: पहिनहिं ठहराओल जाएब
Transliteration: pahinahĩ ṭharāol jāeb
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: प्रारब्ध, भाग्य, किस्मत
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election
NEW TERM. Renders προορίζω (Eph 1:5, 1:11). Built on the same native passive-construction pattern as ‘called’/‘calling’ for family consistency. NEVER fate/karma vocabulary — this is the single highest-risk new term in the book, since predestination language is exceptionally vulnerable to collapsing into fatalistic idiom deeply embedded in everyday Maithili religious speech. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence.
Mystery
Approved rendering: भेद
Transliteration: bhed
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: रहस्य, गुप्त विद्या
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery
NEW TERM. Renders μυστήριον at every occurrence (1:9; 3:3-4,6,9; 5:32; 6:19). REJECTED रहस्य — closely tied to Mithila’s active Tantric-esoteric/Nath-yogi siddha tradition (e.g. Ugratara shrine) where secret knowledge is withheld from all but initiates, the opposite theological shape of biblical mystery (once hidden, now openly proclaimed to all). Mandatory disambiguating translator note required at every occurrence.
Works
Approved rendering: काज
Transliteration: kāj
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: कर्म
Original: ἔργα
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders ἔργα (Eph 2:9), the single most important grace/works exclusion clause in the curriculum. कर्म explicitly rejected — the loaded Sanskrit-shared term for the karma-causality/rebirth worldview common to Maithil Vaishnava and Shaiva practice. Mandatory theologian review.
Holy Temple
Approved rendering: पवित्र धाम / निवासस्थान
Transliteration: pavitra dhām / nivāsasthān
Doctrine: The Church as God’s Holy Temple
Rejected alternatives: मन्दिर
Original: ναὸς ἅγιος / κατοικητήριον
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Renders ναὸς ἅγιος / κατοικητήριον (Eph 2:21-22). NEVER मन्दिर — would directly reopen the baseline’s settled church≠मन्दिर distinction via a different Greek word for the same referent. Flagged as a genuinely new collision point beyond the Romans baseline; mandatory theologian review.
Armor Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक सम्पूर्ण हथियार
Transliteration: parameśvarak sampūrṇa hathiyār
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Whole Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: अस्त्र, कवच
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Renders πανοπλία τοῦ θεοῦ (Eph 6:11,13). अस्त्र (mythological divine weapon, e.g. Brahmastra) and कवच (Karna’s mythical invincible armor) carry strong epic-mythological resonance and must be avoided for this summary phrase; हथियार is neutral. Requires a translator note distinguishing this from mythological divine-weapon imagery.
Devil
Approved rendering: शैतान
Transliteration: śaitān
Doctrine: The Devil and the Cosmic Powers of Darkness
Original: διάβολος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM (established transliteration). Renders διάβολος (Eph 6:11). Requires a clarifying note distinguishing it from (a) epic antagonist-figures (e.g. Ravana) and (b) folk bhoot-pret spirits addressed by Ojha ritual. Biblical spiritual warfare is fought through Christ’s armor, truth, and prayer — never Ojha-style ritual counter-magic.
Rulers Authorities Powers
Approved rendering: शासक, अधिकारी, ई अन्हार संसारक बलवान शासक, आकाशीय क्षेत्रक दुष्ट आत्मिक शक्तिसभ
Transliteration: śāsak, adhikārī, ī anhār saṃsārak balavān śāsak, ākāśīya kṣetrak duṣṭ ātmik śaktisabh
Doctrine: The Devil and the Cosmic Powers of Darkness
Original: ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι, κοσμοκράτορες τοῦ σκότους τούτου, τὰ πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM/doctrine cluster. NOTE: शक्ति is used here ONLY as a plain descriptive plural noun (‘powers/forces’), never as a name/title for God’s own power (which remains सामर्थ्य throughout) — a deliberately controlled, single exception to the शक्ति-prohibition; must be explicitly flagged for reviewer awareness. Mandatory theologian review.
Age
Approved rendering: ई संसारक वर्तमान ढाँचा / आबएबला समयसभ (context-dependent; never युग without a distinguishing note)
Transliteration: ī saṃsārak vartamān ḍhā̃cā / āb’aebalā samayasabh
Doctrine: Christ’s Supremacy over Spiritual Powers
Rejected alternatives: युग (without mandatory note)
Original: αἰών
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Renders αἰών (Eph 1:21, 2:2, 2:7, 3:9, 3:21), recurring far more densely than in Romans. युग is the Hindu cosmological term for cyclical ages (Satya/Tretā/Dvāpar/Kali Yuga); prefer context-dependent paraphrase, with a mandatory distinguishing note wherever युग is unavoidable.
Idolatry Of Covetousness
Approved rendering: व्यभिचार, अशुद्धता, लोभ = मूर्तिपूजा
Transliteration: vyabhicār, aśuddhatā, lobh = mūrtipūjā
Doctrine: The Idolatry of Covetousness
Original: πορνεία, ἀκαθαρσία, πλεονεξία … εἰδωλολατρία
Category: Sin
NEW TERM. Renders πορνεία, ἀκαθαρσία, πλεονεξία … εἰδωλολατρία (Eph 5:3-5). The single most culturally sensitive clause in the book: εἰδωλολατρία literally names precisely what the majority Hindu culture practices reverently as मूर्तिपूजा. REQUIRES a mandatory theologian-reviewed translator note clarifying Paul’s specific comparative logic (greed functions as a rival god), not a blanket condemnation of the neighboring tradition.
Filled With The Spirit
Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्मासँ भरल होयब
Transliteration: pavitra ātmāsã̃ bharal hoeb
Doctrine: Being Filled with the Spirit
Rejected alternatives: आवेश, संचरण
Original: πληροῦσθε ἐν πνεύματι
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Renders πληροῦσθε ἐν πνεύματι (Eph 5:18). Must carry a translator note distinguishing this from folk possession-trance phenomena (आवेश/संचरण) in regional goddess-worship and Ojha ritual; this is ongoing, morally fruitful yielding to God’s personal Spirit, not ecstatic trance-possession.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: सुसमाचार
Transliteration: susamācār
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: नीक खबर, शुभ सन्देश
Original: εὐαγγέλιον

Transliteration: anugraha
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: कृपा, दया, पुण्य, कर्मफल, भाग

Approved rendering: विश्वास
Transliteration: biswas
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा, भक्ति
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly across all Ephesians senses: instrumental means of salvation (2:8), shared confession (4:5), and the believer’s shield (6:16).

Transliteration: pavitrīkaraṇ
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्धिकरण, संस्कार
Original: ἁγιασμός / ἁγιάζω

Adoption
Approved rendering: पुत्रत्व प्रदान
Transliteration: putratva pradān
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: गोद लेब
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Ephesians 1:5 ties adoption directly to predestination and later to inheritance (1:11,14,18); guard doubly against a fatalistic or lineage-diminished reading.
Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था
Transliteration: byavasthā
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, नियम
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Abolished in Christ’s flesh as the dividing wall between Jew and Gentile (2:15).

Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: तेज, ज्योति
Original: δόξα

Power Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक सामर्थ्य
Transliteration: parameśvarak sāmarthya
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति, बल
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. NEVER शक्ति. Ephesians 1:19 stacks four near-synonyms for power (see ‘power_cluster’ below), all of which must avoid शक्ति as a title for God’s own power.
Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा
Transliteration: vācā
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: अनुबंध, बिआह-सम्बन्ध
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Gentiles were formerly ‘strangers to the covenants of promise’ (2:12).
Election
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक चुनाव
Transliteration: parameśvarak cunāv
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, किस्मत, प्रारब्ध
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐξελέξατο
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. God’s sovereign choice of believers before the foundation of the world (1:4); now tightly bound to the new, higher-risk ‘predestined’ term (see below).
Providence
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक विधान
Transliteration: parameśvarak vidhān
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, प्रारब्ध
Original: τὰ πάντα ἐνεργοῦντος κατὰ τὴν βουλὴν τοῦ θελήματος αὐτοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. Ephesians 1:11 pairs this directly with predestination language (‘who works all things according to the counsel of his will’), doubling the fatalism risk.
Prepared Beforehand
Approved rendering: पहिनहिं तैयार कएल
Transliteration: pahinahĩ taiyār kael
Doctrine: Created in Christ for Good Works
Rejected alternatives: प्रारब्धसँ तय कएल
Original: προητοίμασεν
Category: Election
NEW TERM. Renders προητοίμασεν (Eph 2:10). Same fate-avoidance caution as ‘predestined’; personal divine intentionality, not impersonal fate.
Chosen Before Foundation Of World
Approved rendering: संसारक नींव पड़लासँ पहिने चुनल गेल
Transliteration: saṃsārak nĩv paḍalāsã̃ pahine cunal gel
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου
Category: Election
NEW TERM. Renders πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου (Eph 1:4), paired with reused परमेश्वरक चुनाव; must retain the eternal, pre-creation scope.
Unite All Things

Transliteration: sab vastukẽ Khrīṣṭak śirme ek karab
Doctrine: Christ’s Supremacy over Spiritual Powers
Original: ἀνακεφαλαιόω
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Renders ἀνακεφαλαιόω (1:10) as a full descriptive clause, not a single word, to preserve the theological richness of Christ’s cosmic headship.
Gift Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक उपहार
Transliteration: parameśvarak upahār
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: वरदान
Original: δῶρον
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders δῶρον (Eph 2:8). Must not be confused with वरदान (a boon granted for austerity/devotion, per baseline’s spiritual_gifts caution); this gift is explicitly NOT a response to merit or devotion.
Boast
Approved rendering: घमण्ड करब
Transliteration: ghamaṇḍ karab
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: καυχάομαι
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders καυχάομαι (Eph 2:9), the passage’s climactic anti-merit statement. Must not be softened into mere modesty-etiquette; retained as a hard exclusion of merit-based boasting.
Made Alive Together
Approved rendering: ख्रीष्टक संग जीवित कएल
Transliteration: Khrīṣṭak saṅg jīvit kael
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म भेल
Original: συζωοποιέω
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders συζωοποιέω (Eph 2:5). Must be kept sharply distinct from पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation, forbidden per baseline); this is participation in Christ’s own once-for-all resurrection.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक क्रोध
Transliteration: parameśvarak krodh
Doctrine: Universal Human Spiritual Deadness
Rejected alternatives: कर्मफल
Original: ὀργή
Category: God
NEW TERM. Renders ὀργή (Eph 2:3). Personal, moral, judicial response to sin — never impersonal कर्मफल nor a capricious deity’s temper.
Redemption
Approved rendering: छुटकारा
Transliteration: chuṭkārā
Doctrine: Redemption and Forgiveness through Christ’s Blood
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders ἀπολύτρωσις (Eph 1:7, 1:14). Permitted per baseline note specifically ‘in specific rescue-narrative contexts,’ which this is.
Blood Of Christ
Approved rendering: लहू
Transliteration: lahū
Doctrine: Redemption and Forgiveness through Christ’s Blood
Rejected alternatives: बलि
Original: αἷμα
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Renders αἷμα (Eph 1:7, 2:13). Must be distinguished from animal-blood sacrifice (बलि) at regional Shakta goddess shrines (e.g. Ugratara); a once-for-all, self-given atoning act, not a favor-petitioning ritual offering.
Circumcision
Approved rendering: खतना
Transliteration: khatanā
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: περιτομή / ἀκροβυστία
Category: Covenant
NEW TERM. Renders περιτομή/ἀκροβυστία (Eph 2:11). Established loanword strongly associated with Muslim practice in North Indian villages; mandatory note clarifying this is the OT Jewish covenant sign given to Abraham, not Islamic custom.
Dividing Wall
Approved rendering: बैरक बिभाजन-देबाल
Transliteration: bairak bibhājan-debāl
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Renders μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ (Eph 2:14). Directly confronts caste- and lineage-based social hierarchy sustained by Mithila’s Panjikaran genealogical-verification system; must not be softened into vague ‘difference’ language.
One New Man
Approved rendering: एक नब मनुष्य
Transliteration: ek nab manuṣya
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: εἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Renders εἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωπος (Eph 2:15). A genuinely new corporate identity, not mere coexistence. Keep distinct in context from 4:22-24’s individual old/new self (पुरान/नब मनुष्य) despite shared root.
Reconcile
Approved rendering: मेल-मिलाप
Transliteration: mel-milāp
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: ἀποκαταλλάσσω
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders ἀποκαταλλάσσω (Eph 2:16). A completed divine act through the cross, not an ongoing human negotiation/compromise.

Original: συγκληρονόμα / σύσσωμα / συμμέτοχα
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Renders the triad συγκληρονόμα/σύσσωμα/συμμέτοχα (Eph 3:6). The सह- (co-/fellow-) prefix pattern must remain visibly consistent across all three to preserve Paul’s full-equality argument.
Fullness
Approved rendering: परिपूर्णता
Transliteration: paripūrṇatā
Doctrine: The Church as Christ’s Body and Fullness
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Renders πλήρωμα (1:23, 3:19, 4:13). Requires consistent handling across all three occurrences; bridges Christology and ecclesiology.

Approved rendering: एकता
Transliteration: ekatā
Doctrine: The Unity of the Spirit and the Sevenfold Confession
Original: ἑνότης τοῦ πνεύματος
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Renders ἑνότης τοῦ πνεύματος (Eph 4:3). Must be shown as Spirit-produced and cross-grounded, not generic social-harmony rhetoric.
Mature Manhood

Transliteration: pūrṇa / paripakva manuṣya
Doctrine: Mature Corporate Unity in the Fullness of Christ
Rejected alternatives: सिद्ध
Original: ἀνὴρ τέλειος
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Renders ἀνὴρ τέλειος (Eph 4:13). τέλειος must NEVER be rendered सिद्ध, the heavily loaded Nath-yogi/Tantric term for supernatural perfection attained through ascetic practice.
Old Self New Self
Approved rendering: पुरान मनुष्य / नब मनुष्य
Transliteration: purān manuṣya / nab manuṣya
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New Self
Original: παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος / καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Renders παλαιὸς/καινὸς ἄνθρωπος (Eph 4:22-24), individual sense. Keep distinct in context from 2:15’s corporate ‘one new man’ (एक नब मनुष्य) despite shared root.
Grieve The Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्माकेँ दुखी करब
Transliteration: pavitra ātmākẽ dukhī karab
Doctrine: Grieving the Holy Spirit
Original: λυπεῖτε τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον

Pastor
Approved rendering: रखवार
Transliteration: rakhavār
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: गड़ेरिया
Original: ποιμήν
Category: Gifts
NEW TERM. Renders ποιμήν (Eph 4:11). AVOID literal shepherd vocabulary (गड़ेरिया), which doubles as the Gaderiya/Gadariya shepherd-caste name; रखवार (guardian/keeper) avoids this collision. Flag for native speaker review.
Mutual Submission
Approved rendering: अधीन होयब
Transliteration: adhīn hoeb
Doctrine: Mutual Submission and Christ-Centered Marriage
Original: ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις
Category: Household
NEW TERM. Renders ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις (Eph 5:21). Must retain the MUTUAL force distinct from the wife-specific instruction of 5:22-24; must not collapse into one-directional submission given regional patriarchal norms. Mandatory theologian review.
Head
Approved rendering: शिर
Transliteration: śir
Doctrine: Mutual Submission and Christ-Centered Marriage
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Household
NEW TERM. Renders κεφαλή (Eph 5:23). The controlling term is Christ’s sacrificial, self-giving love (5:25), not raw authority; this qualifier must not be lost.
Masters
Approved rendering: मालिक
Transliteration: mālik
Doctrine: Household Codes: Servants and Masters
Rejected alternatives: प्रभु
Original: κύριοι κατὰ σάρκα
Category: Household
NEW TERM. Renders κύριοι κατὰ σάρκα (Eph 6:5,9), ordinary human slave-owners, sharing the Greek root with divine ‘Lord.’ CRITICAL DISAMBIGUATION: मालिक is used exclusively for this human sense so प्रभु remains reserved for Christ throughout the book.
No Partiality
Approved rendering: पक्षपात
Transliteration: pakṣapāt
Doctrine: Household Codes: Servants and Masters
Original: προσωπολημψία
Category: Household
NEW TERM. Renders προσωπολημψία (Eph 6:9), negated. Extends universal-accountability doctrine across master/slave and, by extension, caste/status lines central to Mithila’s social structure.

Doctrine: The Devil and the Cosmic Powers of Darkness
Original: μεθοδεία τοῦ διαβόλου
Category: Spiritual Warfare

Approved rendering: आकाशक अधिकार रखनिहार शासक
Transliteration: ākāśak adhikār rakhanihār śāsak
Doctrine: The Devil and the Cosmic Powers of Darkness
Rejected alternatives: भूत-प्रेत
Original: ἄρχων τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Renders ἄρχων τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος (Eph 2:2). Must not be assimilated to a generic troublesome spirit (भूत-प्रेत) subject to mantra-control; the personal devil exercising organized dominion.
Heavenly Places
Approved rendering: स्वर्गीय स्थान
Transliteration: svargīya sthān
Doctrine: Seated with Christ in the Heavenly Places
Rejected alternatives: स्वर्ग
Original: ἐπουράνιος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Renders ἐπουράνιος (Eph 1:20, 2:6, 3:10, 6:12). Must carry a translator note distinguishing this from स्वर्ग (Svarga), the Puranic temporary merit-earned heavenly abode before return to the rebirth cycle.
Power Cluster
Approved rendering: सामर्थ्य, प्रभावशाली क्रिया, पराक्रम, बल
Transliteration: sāmarthya, prabhāvśālī kriyā, parākram, bal
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति (for any of the four)
Original: δύναμις, ἐνέργεια, κράτος, ἰσχύς
Category: God
NEW TERM (set). Renders the stacked δύναμις/ἐνέργεια/κράτος/ἰσχύς (Eph 1:19, 6:10). δύναμις reuses baseline सामर्थ्य. NEVER शक्ति for any of these four, given active regional Durga/Kali worship and Shakta-goddess associations.
Imitators Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरक अनुकरण करएबला
Transliteration: parameśvarak anukaraṇ karaebalā
Doctrine: Walking in Love as Imitators of God
Original: μιμηταὶ τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Renders μιμηταὶ τοῦ θεοῦ (Eph 5:1). Must be framed as reflecting God’s moral character, not mystical identification with or absorption into the divine — a risk given bhakti traditions of imitating a deity’s life (e.g. Krishna’s līlā).
Offering And Sacrifice
Approved rendering: भेंट आ अर्पण
Transliteration: bheṇṭ ā arpaṇ
Doctrine: Walking in Love as Imitators of God
Rejected alternatives: बलिदान
Original: προσφορὰ καὶ θυσία
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Renders προσφορὰ καὶ θυσία (Eph 5:2). बलिदान rejected — its everyday usage is closely tied to animal-blood sacrifice (बलि) at Shakta goddess shrines. A translator note is required: Christ’s self-sacrifice is a once-for-all act of self-giving love, not a favor-petitioning ritual offering.
Children Of Light
Approved rendering: ज्योतिक सन्तान / अन्हारक सन्तान
Transliteration: jyotik santān / anhārak santān
Doctrine: Children of Light
Original: τέκνα φωτός / σκότος
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Renders τέκνα φωτός/σκότος (Eph 5:8). ज्योति risks conflation with Puranic divine-luster imagery, compounded by the Chhath festival’s Sūrya (sun) veneration; requires a disambiguating note.
Enlightened Eyes Of The Heart
Approved rendering: मनक आँखि प्रकाशित होयब
Transliteration: manak ā̃khi prakāśit hoeb
Doctrine: Spirit-Given Enlightened Understanding
Original: πεφωτισμένους τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τῆς καρδίας
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders πεφωτισμένους τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τῆς καρδίας (Eph 1:18). ‘Enlightenment’ language collides with Buddhist/Hindu bodhi/moksha-jñāna concepts; requires a note clarifying this is Spirit-given understanding of revealed gospel truth, not self-attained mystical enlightenment.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: उत्तराधिकार
Transliteration: uttarādhikār
Doctrine: Inheritance in Christ
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Renders κληρονομία (Eph 1:11, 1:14, 1:18). Mithila’s Panjikaran-linked ancestral-property inheritance customs are a live, weighty institution; must be clearly marked as spiritual inheritance in Christ, not physical/ancestral property.

Transliteration: maṇḍalī

Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Transliteration: parameśvarak rājya
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वरक राष्ट्र
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ θεοῦ
