Core Glossary

Core Glossary: 1 Thessalonians — Odia

Every entry below is cited to at least one chapter of 1 Thessalonians. Terms marked [TM-REUSE] must use the Odia rendering exactly as recorded in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json — no alternative spelling or synonym is permitted. Terms marked [NEW] are proposed here for the first time for this curriculum and require formal promotion into translation memory before Phase 2 processing, per the escalation protocol already defined in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Chapters With No Additional New Theological Vocabulary

None. Every chapter of 1 Thessalonians (1–5) introduces at least one load-bearing term beyond the Romans baseline, consistent with the letter’s concentrated eschatological and pastoral vocabulary. All five chapters are represented in the table above; full-book coverage is confirmed:

  • Chapter 1 — reviewed: election, idols, wrath, joy, love/faith/hope triad, imitators (new terms as tabled).
  • Chapter 2 — reviewed: affliction, Satan, crown, parousia (first occurrence outside core passage).
  • Chapter 3 — reviewed: holiness (ἁγιωσύνη), blameless, established/strengthened, parousia (second occurrence).
  • Chapter 4 — reviewed in full: sanctification/holy-living terms (4:1-12) plus the core passage 4:13-18 (treated exhaustively in 07_semantic_analysis.md Part 1).
  • Chapter 5 — reviewed: Day of the Lord, times and seasons, sons of light/darkness, armor imagery, whole spirit/soul/body, quench the Spirit, holy kiss.

Promotion Protocol for [NEW] Terms

Per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §“Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions,” every [NEW] term above must, before Phase 2 segment translation begins:

  1. Be reviewed against this Linguistic/Semantic Analysis and the Core Glossary (this document).
  2. Be assigned its risk level exactly as tabled above (no downgrading of Critical/High terms).
  3. Be recorded into translation_memory.json under a new version number, with alternatives_rejected fields populated from the “Notes” column above.
  4. Be flagged for mandatory human theologian review if Critical or High (terms #22–33, #37, #40, #44 above), consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json review-routing conventions.

End of Core Glossary.

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: ପରମେଶ୍ୱର
Transliteration: Parameśwara
Doctrine: God
Rejected alternatives: ଠାକୁର, ଭଗବାନ
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Never ଠାକୁର (Jagannath-specific devotional name) or ଭଗବାନ (generic-deity term). Used throughout 1 Thessalonians as the personal Father addressed in prayer (1:1,3; 3:9,11,13; 5:23).

Father

Approved rendering: ପିତା
Transliteration: Pitā
Doctrine: God
Rejected alternatives: ସୃଷ୍ଟିକର୍ତ୍ତା

Inherited from Romans package. God as personal Father, not the distant, abstract ସୃଷ୍ଟିକର୍ତ୍ତା. Used in the letter’s salutation and prayer benedictions (1:1, 1:3, 3:11, 3:13).

Lord

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରଭୁ
Transliteration: Prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ଠାକୁର
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER ଠାକୁର, the everyday devotional name for Jagannath. Central term throughout 1 Thessalonians, especially the eschatological core passage (4:15-17) and Day of the Lord material (5:2,9,23).

Jesus

Approved rendering: ଯୀଶୁ
Transliteration: Yīśu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ଈସା
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Never ଈସା. Used throughout 1 Thessalonians.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା
Transliteration: Pabitra Ātmā
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ପରମାତ୍ମା
Original: Πνεῦμα Ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Never ପରମାତ୍ମା (monistic Universal Self). Active in gospel reception (1:5-6) and the warning against quenching the Spirit (5:19).

Resurrection

Approved rendering: ପୁନରୁତ୍ଥାନ
Transliteration: Punarutthāna
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ / Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: ପୁନର୍ଜନ୍ମ
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἀνέστη / ἀναστήσονται
Category: Eschatology

Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: never ପୁନର୍ଜନ୍ମ. In 1 Thessalonians this covers both Christ’s own past, bodily resurrection (4:14) and the future, ordered, bodily resurrection of ‘the dead in Christ’ (4:16), never the Nabakalebara pattern of periodic ritual renewal.

Salvation

Approved rendering: ପରିତ୍ରାଣ
Transliteration: Paritrāṇa
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ମୋକ୍ଷ, ମୁକ୍ତି
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: never ମୋକ୍ଷ or ମୁକ୍ତି. Described in 5:8-9 as secured by God’s appointment, not human wrath or ritual merit.

Parousia Coming

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଆଗମନ
Transliteration: Prabhuṅka Āgamana
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ପୁନରାଗମନ, ଯାତ୍ରା
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum; the single highest-stakes new term in the book. Christ’s single, future, visible, bodily, personal return (2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23). Must never be conflated with the annual Rath Yatra chariot festival’s ceremonial arrival-and-departure pattern (a temporary, cyclical, repeatable visitation), nor with avatara-descent theology. ପୁନରାଗମନ rejected for aural/conceptual bleed into ପୁନର୍ଜନ୍ମ; ଯାତ୍ରା rejected as the same word used for Rath Yatra’s procession.

Day Of The Lord

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଦିନ
Transliteration: Prabhuṅka Dina
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἡμέρα κυρίου
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The decisive future day of judgment on the unprepared and vindication for believers, arriving ‘as a thief in the night’ (5:1-4). Must remain a single, final, historical day brought by the personal reigning Lord — never a cyclical cosmic-dissolution/renewal event, and its unrevealed timing must be presented as genuinely uncalculable, not merely withheld, against Odisha’s panjika (almanac) culture.

Rapture Caught Up

Approved rendering: ଉଠାଇ ନିଆଯିବା
Transliteration: uṭhāi niāyibā
Doctrine: The Return of Christ / Resurrection of Believers
Original: ἁρπαγησόμεθα
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The sudden, forcible, corporate, God-initiated removal of living believers to meet the returning Lord (4:17). Must be kept distinct from: (1) siddha ascetic-tradition motifs of an individually-realized yogi’s mystical bodily dissolution/transport; (2) moksha-adjacent liberation-from-embodiment imagery, since this is bodily transformation and reunion, not escape from a body; (3) generic ghost/spirit-departure imagery from Odia folk belief. Deliberately plain, non-technical phrasing chosen over a coined loanword.

Idols

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରତିମା
Transliteration: pratimā
Doctrine: Idolatry and Conversion
Original: εἴδωλα
Category: Sin

New term for this curriculum. Worshipped images, from which the Thessalonians turned to God at conversion (1:9). ପ୍ରତିମା is the standard Odia word for a worshipped deity-image, including in ordinary regional speech Jagannath’s own consecrated image (‘ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ପ୍ରତିମା’). Doctrinally necessary and correct, but requires theologian-reviewed, non-confrontational teaching framing every time it appears: the text names the Thessalonians’ own historical Greco-Roman idols, not a direct verbal assault on a neighbor’s living religious vocabulary.

High Risk Terms

Gospel

Approved rendering: ସୁସମାଚାର
Transliteration: Susamācāra
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: ଖବର
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. The one historical announcement of salvation through the crucified and risen Christ, recurring throughout 1 Thess 1-3 (1:5; 2:2,4,8-9; 3:2).

Grace

Approved rendering: କୃପା
Transliteration: Kṛpā
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: କର୍ମଫଳ, ପୁଣ୍ୟ
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Part of the letter’s standard Pauline salutation (1:1).

Faith

Approved rendering: ବିଶ୍ୱାସ
Transliteration: Biśwāsa
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ଭକ୍ତି
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Never ଭକ୍ତି. Part of the foundational triad with love and hope (1:3), the subject of Timothy’s report (3:2,5-7), and armor imagery (5:8).

Election

Approved rendering: ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ମନୋନୟନ
Transliteration: Parameśwaraṅka Manonayana
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: ଭାଗ୍ୟ, ନିୟତି
Original: ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. God’s sovereign, personal choice of the Thessalonian congregation (1:4), and their calling (2:12; 4:7; 5:24). Never ଭାଗ୍ୟ/ନିୟତି, and distinct from the sign-based Nabakalebara selection ritual.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: ପବିତ୍ରୀକରଣ
Transliteration: Pabitrīkaraṇa
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ଶୁଦ୍ଧିକରଣ
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Named explicitly as God’s will (4:3-4,7) and the goal of God’s peace-giving work (5:23). Keep lexically distinct from the new term ପବିତ୍ରତା (holiness_state, the resulting state/quality).

Saints

Approved rendering: ପବିତ୍ର ଲୋକ
Transliteration: Pabitra Loka
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: ସାଧୁ, ପଞ୍ଚସଖା
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Never ପଞ୍ଚସଖା. All believers gathered with Christ at his coming (3:13).

Glory

Approved rendering: ମହିମା
Transliteration: Mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ତେଜ
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Never ତେଜ. Paired with kingdom_of_god as the goal of the believer’s called walk (2:12).

Hope

Approved rendering: ଆଶା
Transliteration: āśā
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The doctrinal hinge-term of the core passage (4:13,18) and part of the founding triad (1:3) and armor imagery (5:8). Must be distinguished from the probabilistic, ritually-dependent uncertainty of Odia funerary practice (shraddha, pinda dan, dasha/ekadasha/dwadasha rites), which requires repeated ritual action precisely because the departed’s fate is treated as unsettled. Christian ଆଶା here is an already-secured future guaranteed by Christ’s own resurrection, not a wish pursued through further ritual.

Love Agape

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରେମ
Transliteration: prema
Doctrine: Sanctification / Christian Ethic
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. Self-giving, covenantal love for one another (1:3; 3:12; 4:9; 5:8). Must be anchored to concrete ethical action (labor, patience, mutual service) so it is not absorbed into the erotic-devotional register of Odia Vaishnav prema-bhakti poetry (Radha-Krishna longing).

Asleep Death

Approved rendering: ନିଦ୍ରିତ
Transliteration: nidrita
Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers / Hope in Grief
Original: κοιμάομαι / κοιμωμένων / κοιμηθέντας
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The NT euphemism for the death of believers as a temporary, reversible ‘sleep’ (4:13-15), never used of unbelievers’ death in this letter. Must always appear anchored in the same sentence or immediately adjacent clause as ପୁନରୁତ୍ଥାନ or resurrection-hope language, so it is never read through Odia funerary culture’s framework of an unsettled post-death soul-state requiring ongoing ritual action (shraddha, pinda dan).

Wrath

Approved rendering: କୋପ
Transliteration: kopa
Doctrine: Wrath and Judgment of God
Rejected alternatives: କର୍ମଫଳ
Original: ὀργή
Category: God

New term for this curriculum. God’s righteous judicial anger, ‘the wrath to come’ from which Jesus delivers believers (1:10; 5:9). Must be read as the settled judicial anger of a personal moral God, not impersonal karmic consequence — the same caution the baseline applies to grace applies symmetrically here.

Joy

Approved rendering: ଆନନ୍ଦ
Transliteration: ānanda
Doctrine: Joy Amid Affliction
Original: χαρά
Category: Faith

New term for this curriculum. Spirit-given gladness received amid affliction at gospel reception (1:6). Must be distinguished from the Vedantic Satchidananda (being-consciousness-bliss) attribute of impersonal ultimate reality and from Puri’s Ananda Bazaar festival association; keep anchored to its relational, Spirit-given, personal-God-centered cause.

Holiness State

Approved rendering: ପବିତ୍ରତା
Transliteration: pabitratā
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιωσύνη
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. The moral state/quality in which believers must be found blameless at Christ’s coming (3:13). Kept lexically distinct from ପବିତ୍ରୀକରଣ (the ongoing process); avoid the ritual-purity register already flagged in the baseline for ପବିତ୍ର vs ଶୁଦ୍ଧ.

Vessel

Approved rendering: ପାତ୍ର
Transliteration: pātra
Doctrine: Sexual Purity in Sanctification
Original: σκεῦος
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. Debated referent in 4:4 — one’s own body or one’s wife — in the instruction to ‘possess his vessel.’ This is an interpretive ambiguity, not primarily a cultural-collision risk; flag every occurrence for theologian review so the rendering choice is made deliberately, never silently resolved.

Whole Spirit Soul Body

Approved rendering: ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଆତ୍ମା, ପ୍ରାଣ ଓ ଶରୀର
Transliteration: sampūrṇa ātmā, prāṇa o śarīra
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ὁλόκληρον…πνεῦμα καὶ ψυχὴ καὶ σῶμα
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. Comprehensive, whole-person sanctification preserved blameless at Christ’s coming (5:23). Must be taught as emphatic totality of one united person, not a technical Vedantic/Yogic anthropology of graded, separable, transmigrating subtle and causal bodies (sthūla/sūkṣma/kāraṇa śarīra).

Descend From Heaven

Approved rendering: ସ୍ୱର୍ଗରୁ ଅବତରଣ କରିବେ
Transliteration: swargaru abataraṇa karibe
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ଅବତାର (noun form forbidden)
Original: καταβήσεται ἀπ᾿ οὐρανοῦ
Category: Christology

New term for this curriculum. The Lord’s own personal, emphatic descent from heaven at his return (4:16). The ordinary Odia verb for ‘descend’ (ଅବତରଣ) shares its root with ଅବତାର, forbidden absolutely as a noun for Christ’s incarnation. The verb form is grammatically unavoidable here, but no noun-form ଅବତାର may ever be used; surrounding text/teaching notes must state this is Christ’s unique, final, visible return, not a repeatable avatara-descent.

Medium Risk Terms

Church

Approved rendering: ମଣ୍ଡଳୀ
Transliteration: Maṇḍaḷī
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: ମନ୍ଦିର, ଦେଉଳ
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Never ମନ୍ଦିର or ଦେଉଳ. Names the congregation addressed in 1 Thess 1:1, ‘the church of the Thessalonians.‘

Peace

Approved rendering: ଶାନ୍ତି
Transliteration: Śānti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: ମନ ଶାନ୍ତି
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in the salutation (1:1) and the eschatological warning context of ‘peace and safety’ (5:3), where a false, self-declared peace precedes sudden destruction.

Apostle

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରେରିତ
Transliteration: Prerita
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: ଗୁରୁ
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Describes Paul, Silas, and Timothy’s ministry standing (2:6-7), exercised in gentleness, not personal gain.

Kingdom Of God

Approved rendering: ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ରାଜ୍ୟ
Transliteration: Parameśwaraṅka Rājya
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom

Inherited from Romans package. The goal, alongside God’s glory, of the believer’s called walk (2:12).

Gentiles

Approved rendering: ଅନ୍ୟଜାତି
Transliteration: Anyajāti
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: ବିଦେଶୀ
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Describes non-Jewish peoples who do not know God, used of pre-conversion culture (4:5).

Archangel

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରଧାନ ଦୂତ
Transliteration: pradhāna dūta
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Original: ἀρχάγγελος
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The chief/ruling angel whose voice announces the Lord’s descent (4:16). Distinguish ଦୂତ (messenger/angel) from the populated bhuta/preta folk-spirit landscape addressed through exorcism/propitiation ritual in Odia folk practice.

Trumpet Of God

Approved rendering: ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ତୂରୀ
Transliteration: Parameśwaraṅka tūrī
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ଶଙ୍ଖ
Original: σάλπιγξ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The final cosmic summons announcing the Lord’s descent and the resurrection of the dead (4:16). The temple conch (ଶଙ୍ଖ) sounded at Jagannath temple arati is a legitimate illustrative parallel for teaching notes only, never a lexical substitute; this trumpet is a one-time, final, cosmic summons, not a recurring liturgical signal.

Meeting The Lord

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ ସାକ୍ଷାତ
Transliteration: Prabhuṅku sākṣāta
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Original: εἰς ἀπάντησιν τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The technical civic-welcome sense (ἀπάντησις) of going out to meet an arriving dignitary and returning with him, applied to believers meeting the returning Lord (4:17). Preserve the escort-and-return nuance in teaching notes so this is not misread as a one-way permanent departure from the earth.

Affliction

Approved rendering: ଦୁଃଖକ୍ଲେଶ
Transliteration: duḥkhakleśa
Doctrine: Christian Suffering for the Gospel
Rejected alternatives: କ୍ଲେଶ
Original: θλῖψις
Category: Faith

New term for this curriculum. Real, painful suffering endured for the gospel (1:6; 2:14-15; 3:3-4,7). Use the compound, never bare କ୍ଲେଶ, to avoid resonance with the technical Yogic kleśa doctrine (Patanjali’s five afflictions binding the soul to rebirth).

Satan

Approved rendering: ଶୟତାନ
Transliteration: Śayatāna
Doctrine: Spiritual Opposition
Original: Σατανᾶς
Category: Spiritual Warfare

New term for this curriculum; transliterated proper noun. The singular personal spiritual adversary who hindered Paul’s travel and tempts believers (2:18; 3:5). Distinguish from the many localized bhuta/preta (ghost/spirit) figures of Odia folk belief addressed through exorcism/propitiation ritual specialists.

Crown

Approved rendering: ମୁକୁଟ
Transliteration: mukuṭa
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ମାଳା
Original: στέφανος καυχήσεως
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The eschatological reward of rejoicing given at Christ’s coming (2:19). Distinguish from the honorific floral garland (ମାଳା) offered to a deity in Odia devotional practice; this is a royal victor’s crown given by Christ, not an offering presented to a deity.

Blameless

Approved rendering: ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦୋଷ
Transliteration: nirdoṣa
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἄμεμπτος
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. Without blame or fault before God at Christ’s coming (3:13; 5:23).

Sexual Immorality

Approved rendering: ବ୍ୟଭିଚାର
Transliteration: byabhicāra
Doctrine: Sexual Purity in Sanctification
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. Sexual sin from which believers must abstain as part of God’s will for sanctification (4:3), distinguishing Christian sexual ethic from surrounding Gentile practice.

Brotherly Love

Approved rendering: ଭ୍ରାତୃପ୍ରେମ
Transliteration: bhrātṛprema
Doctrine: Brotherly Love and Church Unity
Original: φιλαδελφία
Category: Church

New term for this curriculum, built on the High-risk term ପ୍ରେମ. Love among believers needing no further instruction, extended to ‘all the brethren’ throughout the region (4:9-10); models love crossing natural social/caste boundaries.

Times And Seasons

Approved rendering: ସମୟ ଓ କାଳ
Transliteration: samaya o kāḷa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: χρόνοι καὶ καιροί
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The unrevealed timing of the Day of the Lord (5:1). Must deny, not merely withhold, calculability — a needed correction against Odisha’s panjika (almanac) culture of calculating auspicious/inauspicious times and moments.

Sons Of Light

Approved rendering: ଆଲୋକର ପୁତ୍ର / ଅନ୍ଧକାରର ସନ୍ତାନ
Transliteration: ālokara putra / andhakārara santāna
Doctrine: Watchfulness and Sobriety
Original: υἱοὶ φωτός / τέκνα σκότους
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. Moral-spiritual identity contrast between believers ready for the Day of the Lord and those unprepared (5:5); not literal illumination. Cf. baseline caution against light-metaphor conflation with unrelated divine-radiance devotional concepts.

Quench The Spirit

Approved rendering: ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମାଙ୍କୁ ଲିଭାଇ ନ ଦିଅ
Transliteration: Pabitra Ātmāṅku libhāi na diā
Doctrine: Testing of Prophecy and the Spirit’s Work
Original: μὴ σβέννυτε τὸ Πνεῦμα
Category: Sanctification

New term for this curriculum. Warning against suppressing the Spirit’s active work, especially prophetic utterance (5:19). The fire/extinguish imagery has mild resonance with maintained sacred-flame practices (Vedic homa, temple ritual fires), but the verse’s dynamic — a living, personal Spirit whose activity can be resisted — distinguishes it from an impersonal flame kept alight by ritual duty.

Word Of The Lord

Approved rendering: ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ୟ
Transliteration: Prabhuṅka bākya
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture / Word of the Lord
Original: λόγος κυρίου / λόγος θεοῦ
Category: Covenant

New term for this curriculum. Authoritative divine speech, received as God’s word rather than man’s word (2:13), and cited as direct warrant for eschatological teaching (4:15). Must be presented as God’s own authoritative speech, distinct from the revered but non-divine status of Odia devotional literature such as the Panchasakha poets’ Odia Bhagavata.

Grief Sorrow

Approved rendering: ଦୁଃଖ କରିବା
Transliteration: duḥkha karibā
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Original: λυπέω / λυπῆσθε
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. Emotional grief or sorrow; Paul does not forbid grief itself but grief without hope (4:13). Care is needed so ‘as others which have no hope’ remains the qualifier, not an implication that grief itself is forbidden — a live risk given Odia culture’s highly structured, expected public mourning customs.

Low Risk Terms

Thanksgiving

Approved rendering: ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ସ୍ତୁତି
Transliteration: Dhanyabāda Stuti
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία / εὐχαριστοῦμεν

Exhort

Approved rendering: ଉତ୍ସାହିତ କରିବା
Transliteration: Utsāhita Karibā
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: παρακαλέω
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Context-sensitive between entreaty and encouragement; recurs as a pastoral verb (2:12; 3:2; 4:1,10,18; 5:11,14).

Prophecy

Approved rendering: ଭବିଷ୍ୟଦ୍ବାଣୀ
Transliteration: Bhabiṣyadbāṇī
Doctrine: Testing of Prophecy and the Spirit’s Work
Rejected alternatives: ଗଣନା
Original: προφητεία
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. Spirit-given prophetic utterance to be tested, not despised (5:20-21); distinct from astrological forecasting.

Holy Kiss

Approved rendering: ପବିତ୍ର ଚୁମ୍ବନ
Transliteration: pabitra cumbana
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Original: ἅγιον φίλημα
Category: Church

New term for this curriculum. A holy greeting custom among believers, carrying real affection and holiness (5:26). Functional-equivalent greeting customs (embrace, folded-hands greeting) may be used in application, never substituted into the translated text itself.

Imitators

Approved rendering: ଅନୁକାରୀ
Transliteration: anukārī
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: μιμηταί

New term for this curriculum. Those who model their lives on visible examples, describing the Thessalonians’ discipleship (1:6).
