Doctrine Analysis

Doctrine Analysis: 2 Corinthians 1–13 — Full-Book Doctrine Matrix

Purpose

This document is the Phase 1 Step 4 doctrine matrix for the 2 Corinthians curriculum extension of the odia Language Package. It covers every chapter of 2 Corinthians, first to last (chapters 1–13), mapping each chapter’s load-bearing doctrinal content to the risk tiers already fixed in assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json. This document does not introduce new doctrines or alter any risk tier from that registry; it is a full-book coverage and review-routing reference built strictly on top of it, in the same structure as the Romans baseline’s 11_doctrine_analysis.md.

The core passage, 2 Corinthians 5:11–21 (Reconciliation with God, Ministry of Reconciliation, Substitutionary Atonement, New Creation in Christ), is the theological anchor of the curriculum but is not the scope boundary of this analysis. Every chapter is reviewed below, including chapters whose doctrinal content is secondary to the core passage.

Risk tiers follow the shared definitions established in the Romans baseline and reused without modification in the 2 Corinthians doctrine_risk_registry.json:

  • Critical — mistranslation destroys essential doctrine; human theologian review required for every occurrence.
  • High — mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk; human theologian review required.
  • Medium — mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning; native speaker review recommended.
  • Low — minor imprecision; automated review sufficient.

Part A — Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Coverage

Every chapter of 2 Corinthians is reviewed below. For each chapter: active doctrines (cross-referenced to Part B), governing risk tier(s), and a brief note on translation risk specific to that chapter’s presentation of the doctrine.

Chapter 1 — Comfort in Affliction; Sincerity; the Spirit’s Guarantee

  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry (1:3–11) — High. Paul’s opening theology of affliction (θλῖψις) and comfort (παράκλησις) sets the pattern for the whole epistle. Risk: avoid κ୍ଲେଶ for affliction (yogic-philosophy collision); distinguish ସାନ୍ତ୍ୱନା (comfort) from baseline ଉତ୍ସାହିତ କରିବା (encouragement).
  • Sincerity and Apostolic Authority (1:12) — High. First occurrence of ନିଷ୍କପଟତା (sincerity), the recurring anchor term for this doctrine; establish rendering here for consistency through chs. 2, 4, 11.
  • Assurance by the Spirit: Guarantee and Seal (1:21–22) — Medium. ବିଆନା (earnest deposit) and ମୋହରାଙ୍କିତ କରିବା (sealing) introduced; must pair with baseline ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା.
  • Thanksgiving (1:11) — Low. Standard baseline term ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ସ୍ତୁତି reused.
  • Note: Chapter 1 also contains the epistolary greeting reusing baseline Critical terms ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, ପ୍ରଭୁ, ଯୀଶୁ, ପିତା (1:2–3) — exact reuse required, no new risk.

Chapter 2 — Forgiveness, the Triumph of Christ, Sincere Preaching

  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry (2:4) — High. “Anguish of heart” language continues ch. 1’s pattern.
  • Triumph of Christ (2:14–16) — High. θριαμβεύω (“leads us in triumphal procession”) is the sharpest Rath Yatra collision point in the book; must be rendered as a verbal/descriptive phrase, never a procession-noun (ବିଜୟଯାତ୍ରା forbidden). The companion image of “fragrance of Christ” (ὀσμή, 2:14–16) carries positive, low-risk resonance with Odia devotional incense imagery but requires a clarifying note that the sense is metaphorical evangelistic witness, not ritual offering.
  • Sincerity and Apostolic Authority (2:17) — High. “Not peddlers of God’s word” — first occurrence of the self-commendation contrast that recurs through chs. 4, 10–12.

Chapter 3 — The New Covenant, the Letter and the Spirit, the Veil

  • The New Covenant versus the Old (3:6–18) — High. Governing chapter for this doctrine: ନୂତନ ନିୟମ / ପୁରାତନ ନିୟମ (reusing baseline ନିୟମ), ଅକ୍ଷର (letter) vs. ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା (Spirit), ଆବରଣ (veil, never ଘୁଙ୍ଘଟ), and ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା (freedom, never ମୁକ୍ତି — mokṣa/saṃsāra-release collision).
  • Sincerity and Apostolic Authority — High (implied). “Ministers of a new covenant” (3:6) continues the ministry/ସେବକାର୍ଯ୍ୟ caution against hereditary seba readings.
  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry — High (implied). “Transformed… from glory to glory” (3:18) touches the ministry doctrine’s positive counterpart; reuses baseline ମହିମା exactly.

Chapter 4 — Treasure in Jars of Clay; the God of This Age

  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry (4:7–18) — High. “Treasure in jars of clay,” “outer man/inner man,” “afflicted but not crushed” — central chapter for this doctrine’s Power-in-Weakness overlap (4:7–12 anticipates ch. 12’s fuller treatment).
  • Spiritual Warfare and Discernment (4:3–4) — High. “The god of this age” (ὁ θεὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου) deliberately applies generic ଦେବତା to Satan; requires a standing translator note that this never legitimizes Satan as a god among many and must never be confused with ପରମେଶ୍ୱର.
  • Sincerity and Apostolic Authority (4:2) — High. “Renounced secret and shameful ways… not walking in deceitfulness” continues the ନିଷ୍କପଟତା anchor term.

Chapter 5 — CORE PASSAGE: Reconciliation, New Creation, Substitutionary Atonement

This chapter contains the curriculum’s theological anchor, 2 Corinthians 5:11–21, and carries the highest concentration of Critical-tier doctrine in the book.

  • Reconciliation with God (5:18–21) — Critical. The core-passage doctrine. Passive imperative “be reconciled to God” (5:20) must never be rendered as human-initiated achievement.
  • Ministry of Reconciliation (5:18–20) — High. διακονία never plain ସେବା; ambassador (5:20) rendered ରାଜଦୂତ, never bare ଦୂତ or ପ୍ରତିନିଧି.
  • Substitutionary Atonement (5:14, 5:21) — Critical. “One died for all” and “made him to be sin” (ପାପ ସ୍ୱରୂପ କଲେ) are the epistle’s densest theological compression; reuses baseline ଗଣିବା accounting-verb and ଆରୋପିତ ଧାର୍ମିକତା.
  • New Creation in Christ (5:17) — High. ନୂତନ ସୃଷ୍ଟି must be taught as one-time, non-repeating transformation against the sṛṣṭi-sthiti-pralaya cyclical-cosmology risk.
  • Christian Identity in Christ (5:16–17) — High. κατὰ σάρκα (“according to the flesh”) is a distinct sense of σάρξ from the baseline’s Incarnation term ଦେହଧାରଣ; must not be conflated.
  • Judgment Seat of Christ (5:10) — Medium. Believers’ accountability-tribunal, distinct from condemnatory judgment.
  • Sincerity and Apostolic Authority (5:11–13) — High. “Fear of the Lord” (ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଭୟ) and Paul’s self-commendation disclaimer continue the anchor doctrine.
  • Boasting Only in the Lord (5:12) — High. First occurrence of the illegitimate-self-commendation vs. legitimate-boasting-in-the-Lord contrast, fully developed in chs. 10–12.

Chapter 6 — Church as God’s Temple; Unequal Yoking

  • Church as Temple of the Living God (6:14–18) — Critical. ναός collides sharply with “ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିର,” the popular honorific for the Puri Jagannath Temple; must render ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ବାସସ୍ଥାନ, never ମନ୍ଦିର or ଦେଉଳ.
  • Unequal Partnership and Separation (6:14–17) — Medium. ଅସମାନ ଜୁଆଳି (ox-yoke image) has low collision risk; task is clarity, not cultural substitution.
  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry (6:4–10) — High. Catalogue of afflictions/endurance continues the ch. 1/4/11 pattern.
  • Spiritual Warfare and Discernment (6:15) — High. Proper name “Belial” (ବେଲିୟଲ) transliterated with a ଶୟତାନ gloss on first use.

Chapter 7 — Godly Sorrow; Comfort from Titus

  • Godly Sorrow and Repentance (7:8–11) — Medium. ଈଶ୍ୱରୀୟ ଦୁଃଖ vs. worldly sorrow; contrast must be preserved but carries no strong syncretism vector in Odia.
  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry (7:4–7, 7:13) — High. Continues ch. 1’s comfort vocabulary; ସାନ୍ତ୍ୱନା reused consistently.

Chapter 8 — The Macedonians’ Generosity; the Collection Begins

  • Generosity and Grace in Giving (8:1–24) — High. Governing chapter for this doctrine: χάρις in its extended “grace-gift of giving” sense (8:1, 6–7, 9, 19) requires a standing grace-versus-merit translator note against Odisha’s dāna/chadhaa merit-giving tradition.
  • Church as God’s People (8:1, 18–19, 23–24, reuse of baseline doctrine) — Medium (baseline tier). ମଣ୍ଡଳୀ reused exactly.

Chapter 9 — Cheerful Giving; Sowing and Reaping

  • Generosity and Grace in Giving (9:1–15) — High. ହୃଷ୍ଟଚିତ୍ତ ଦାତା (cheerful giver, 9:7) is the doctrine’s sharpest single enforcement point; ବୁଣିବା/କାଟିବା (sowing/reaping, 9:6) carries natural low-risk agrarian resonance.
  • Thanksgiving (9:11–12, 9:15) — Low. “Indescribable gift” (ଅବର୍ଣ୍ଣନୀୟ ଦାନ, 9:15) names Christ himself as God’s ultimate free gift; reuses baseline ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ସ୍ତୁତି.

Chapter 10 — Paul’s Defense; Spiritual Weapons; Boasting in the Lord

  • Genuine versus False Apostleship (10:1–18) — High. Governing chapter opening; apostleship must not collapse into a guru/hereditary-pandaa role.
  • Boasting Only in the Lord (10:8, 13, 15–18) — High. Legitimate “boasting in the Lord” contrasted with illegitimate self-commendation; reuses baseline ପ୍ରଭୁ exactly.
  • Spiritual Warfare and Discernment (10:3–5) — High. “Weapons of warfare,” “strongholds” (ଦୁର୍ଗ) — clarify metaphorical, not literal-military, application.

Chapter 11 — False Apostles; Paul’s Sufferings; Satan’s Disguise

  • Genuine versus False Apostleship (11:1–33) — High. Governing chapter: ମିଥ୍ୟା ପ୍ରେରିତ (false apostles, 11:13) and ଅତି ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ପ୍ରେରିତ (super-apostles, ironic, 11:5) both reuse baseline ପ୍ରେରିତ.
  • Spiritual Warfare and Discernment (11:3, 14–15) — High. “Angel of light” (ଦୀପ୍ତିମାନ ଦୂତ) — deception imagery, must not read as legitimate ମହିମା.
  • Boasting Only in the Lord (11:16–18, 30) — High. Paul’s paradoxical “boasting” in weakness and suffering.
  • Suffering and Comfort in Ministry (11:23–29) — High. Paul’s catalogue of sufferings, the fullest single treatment of this doctrine’s affliction vocabulary in the book.

Chapter 12 — Paradise; the Thorn; Power in Weakness

  • Paradise and Heavenly Vision (12:1–4) — High. “Third heaven”/paradise requires a standing note distinguishing it from Hindu cosmology’s temporary, karma-determined svarga.
  • Power in Weakness (12:7–10) — Critical. Governing chapter and the single sharpest enforcement point in the entire book for the baseline’s ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ/never-ଶକ୍ତି rule (12:9, “my power is made perfect in weakness”), given direct proximity to Odisha’s Shakta devotional tradition.
  • Boasting Only in the Lord (12:1, 5–6, 9) — High. Paul “boasts” only in his weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on him.
  • Genuine versus False Apostleship (12:11–13) — High. “Signs of a true apostle” (12:12); reuses baseline ପ୍ରେରିତ.

Chapter 13 — Final Warnings; Self-Examination; Trinitarian Benediction

  • Power in Weakness (13:4, 9) — Critical. “Christ… was crucified in weakness, yet lives by the power of God” — continues ch. 12’s absolute ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ enforcement.
  • Christian Fellowship (13:12–14) — Low. “Holy kiss” (ପବିତ୍ର ଚୁମ୍ବନ) reuses baseline ପବିତ୍ର and ସହଭାଗିତା; requires only a cultural clarifying note on the greeting form.
  • Trinitarian Benediction (13:14) — Critical. Closing formula requires simultaneous, fixed, verbatim-consistent reuse of five baseline terms (କୃପା, ପ୍ରଭୁ, ଯୀଶୁ, ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା) plus ସହଭାଗିତା and ପ୍ରେମ.
  • Note: “Examine/test yourselves” (13:5) is Low risk self-examination language with no significant doctrinal collision; reviewed and folded into the Judgment Seat of Christ / Assurance doctrines rather than tracked as a separate registry entry.

Part B — Master Doctrine Matrix

The following matrix is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: same doctrines, same risk tiers, same review routing. It is the canonical Phase 1 Step 4 deliverable.

#DoctrineSupporting Passages (2 Corinthians)RiskTranslation Risk NotesReview Routing
1Reconciliation with God5:18–21CriticalCore-passage doctrine. Use ମିଳନ (reunion), never ସନ୍ଧି (negotiated treaty) or ଚୁକ୍ତି (baseline-rejected, transactional). “Be reconciled” (5:20) is a passive imperative describing reception of God’s finished act, never an active human achievement — guards against re-invoking Odisha’s ritual-offering economy (seba, bhoga, pilgrimage merit).Human theologian
2Ministry of Reconciliation5:18–20Highδιακονία never plain ସେବା (collides with hereditary Jagannath temple sevayat/pandaa service roles); ambassador (5:20) rendered ରାଜଦୂତ, never ଦୂତ (angelic-messenger risk) or ପ୍ରତିନିଧି (too mundane).Human theologian
3Substitutionary Atonement5:14, 5:21Critical”Made him to be sin” rendered ପାପ ସ୍ୱରୂପ କଲେ (judicial identification), never suggesting Christ’s own moral corruption. Extends baseline’s ଆରୋପିତ ଧାର୍ମିକତା and ଧାର୍ମିକ ବୋଲି ଗଣା ଯିବା into their negative counterpart; reuse baseline ଗଣିବା verb.Human theologian
4New Creation in Christ5:17Highନୂତନ ସୃଷ୍ଟି must be taught, via translator note, as a one-time, non-repeating transformation — not a phase within the sṛṣṭi-sthiti-pralaya cyclical cosmology or the repeating yuga framework.Human theologian
5Christian Identity in Christ5:16–17Highκατὰ σάρκα (“according to the flesh,” evaluative sense) must not be rendered with baseline’s Incarnation term ଦେହଧାରଣ — a distinct theological sense of the same Greek root σάρξ.Human theologian
6Suffering and Comfort in Ministry1:3–11; 2:4; 4:7–18; 6:4–10; 7:4–7,13; 11:23–29Highθλῖψις never rendered କ୍ଲେଶ (Patanjali yogic-affliction collision, resolved by meditative technique rather than hope of resurrection/comfort). ସାନ୍ତ୍ୱନା distinguished from baseline ଉତ୍ସାହିତ କରିବା.Human theologian
7The New Covenant versus the Old3:6–18Highନୂତନ ନିୟମ/ପୁରାତନ ନିୟମ reuse baseline ନିୟମ. ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା (freedom, 3:17) never ମୁକ୍ତି (mokṣa/saṃsāra-release collision). Veil (ଆବରଣ) never ଘୁଙ୍ଘଟ (bridal modesty covering).Human theologian
8Sincerity and Apostolic Authority1:12; 2:17; 4:2; 5:11–13,20; 10:1–18Highନିଷ୍କପଟତା (sincerity) is a recurring anchor term requiring consistent rendering across chs. 1, 2, 4, 5, 11. ରାଜଦୂତ required for “ambassador.”Human theologian
9Generosity and Grace in Giving8:1–24; 9:1–15Highχάρις in its extended sense (grace-gift of giving) requires a standing grace-versus-merit note against Odisha’s dāna/chadhaa merit-giving tradition. ହୃଷ୍ଟଚିତ୍ତ ଦାତା (cheerful giver, 9:7) is the sharpest single enforcement point.Human theologian
10Power in Weakness4:7–12; 12:7–10; 13:4,9Critical12:9 is the single sharpest enforcement point in either curriculum for the baseline’s ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ/never-ଶକ୍ତି rule, given Odisha’s prominent Shakta devotional tradition (Maa Samaleswari, Maa Tarini).Human theologian
11Genuine versus False Apostleship10:1–18; 11:1–33; 12:1–13Highମିଥ୍ୟା ପ୍ରେରିତ and ଅତି ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ପ୍ରେରିତ (ironic) both reuse baseline ପ୍ରେରିତ exactly; risk of apostleship collapsing into a generic guru or hereditary pandaa/sevayat role.Human theologian
12Boasting Only in the Lord5:12; 10:8,13,15–18; 11:16–18,30; 12:1,5–6,9Highκαυχάομαι must be distinguished at every occurrence as illegitimate self-commendation vs. legitimate “boasting in the Lord” (reusing baseline ପ୍ରଭୁ, never ଠାକୁର); flattening this erases Paul’s central rhetorical paradox.Human theologian
13Church as Temple of the Living God6:14–18Criticalναός collides directly with “ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିର,” the popular honorific for the Puri Jagannath Temple — sharper and more specific than the baseline’s existing ମନ୍ଦିର/ଦେଉଳ caution for ἐκκλησία. Use ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ବାସସ୍ଥାନ.Human theologian
14Spiritual Warfare and Discernment4:3–4; 6:15; 10:3–5; 11:3,14–15High4:4’s “the god of this age” deliberately applies generic ଦେବତା to Satan; standing note required that this never legitimizes Satan as a god among many, and never confuses with ପରମେଶ୍ୱର.Human theologian
15Triumph of Christ2:14–16Highθριαμβεύω never rendered with a procession-noun (ବିଜୟଯାତ୍ରା forbidden) due to direct overlap with Odisha’s Rath Yatra; extends baseline’s existing Rath Yatra caution (previously scoped only to Kingdom Mission) explicitly here. Use a verbal/descriptive phrase.Human theologian
16Assurance by the Spirit: Guarantee and Seal1:21–22; 5:5Mediumବିଆନା (earnest-money deposit) is a natural, low-risk Odia commercial term for ἀρραβών; must pair with baseline ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା, never ପରମାତ୍ମା.Native speaker review
17Godly Sorrow and Repentance7:8–11MediumContrast between ଈଶ୍ୱରୀୟ ଦୁଃଖ and worldly sorrow must be preserved; primarily a clarity risk, no dominant competing Odia religious framework.Native speaker review
18Judgment Seat of Christ5:10Mediumବିଚାର ଆସନ is believers’ accountability-tribunal, distinct from unbelievers’ condemnatory judgment; risk is conflation with Assurance-of-Salvation condemnation-language.Native speaker review
19Paradise and Heavenly Vision12:1–4Highସ୍ୱର୍ଗ (svarga) in Hindu cosmology names a temporary, karma-determined heavenly abode within saṃsāra; standing note required distinguishing “third heaven”/paradise as God’s own eternal, non-cyclical presence.Human theologian
20Unequal Partnership and Separation6:14–17Mediumଅସମାନ ଜୁଆଳି (ox-yoke image) carries natural, low-risk agrarian resonance; task is clarity about the nature of the forbidden partnership, not term substitution.Native speaker review

Critical Risk Doctrines

Reconciliation with God

Odia name: ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ସହିତ ମିଳନ
Key terms: reconciliation, reconcile, be reconciled to God, not counting their trespasses
Review routing: Human theologian

The core-passage doctrine. Odia lacks a neutral Christian-established term for ‘reconciliation’; ମିଳନ (reunion) must be used rather than ସନ୍ଧି (a negotiated treaty between equals) or ଚୁକ୍ତି (already baseline-rejected for covenant as too transactional). The grammatical passive imperative of 5:20 (‘be reconciled’) must never be rendered as an active human achievement, which would collide with the grace-versus-merit caution already governing κρις/χάρις in the Romans baseline and re-invoke Odisha’s ritual-offering economy (seba, bhoga, pilgrimage merit) as if humanity could initiate its own reconciliation.

Substitutionary Atonement

Odia name: ପ୍ରାୟଶ୍ଚିତ୍ତ ବଦଳି ମୃତ୍ୟୁ
Key terms: one died for all, made him to be sin, the righteousness of God in him
Review routing: Human theologian

5:21’s ‘made him to be sin’ is the most theologically dense phrase in the epistle and must be rendered ପାପ ସ୍ୱରୂପ କଲେ (judicial/substitutionary identification with sin) rather than any rendering suggesting Christ’s own moral corruption (‘made a sinner’). This directly extends the baseline’s imputed_righteousness (ଆରୋପିତ ଧାର୍ମିକତା) and justification (ଧାର୍ମିକ ବୋଲି ଗଣା ଯିବା) accounting-metaphor doctrine into its negative counterpart (sin not counted against believers) and must reuse the baseline’s ଗଣିବା verb for consistency.

Power in Weakness

Odia name: ଦୁର୍ବଳତାରେ ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ
Key terms: power made perfect in weakness, treasure in jars of clay, thorn in the flesh, weakness
Review routing: Human theologian

12:9 (‘my power is made perfect in weakness’) is the single sharpest textual enforcement point in either curriculum for the baseline’s absolute ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ/never-ଶକ୍ତି rule. Odisha’s prominent Shakta devotional tradition (Maa Samaleswari at Sambalpur, Maa Tarini at Ghatagaon) makes ଶକ୍ତି read as a specific, named divine-feminine power-substance, utterly unlike Paul’s paradox that God’s strength is displayed precisely through, not despite, human frailty.

Church as Temple of the Living God

Odia name: ଜୀବିତ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ବାସସ୍ଥାନ ଭାବରେ ମଣ୍ଡଳୀ
Key terms: temple of the living God, unequally yoked, dwelling place
Review routing: Human theologian

This is a newly surfaced, Odisha-specific collision distinct from the baseline’s existing ମନ୍ଦିର/ଦେଉଳ caution for ἐκκλησία: the underlying Greek word here is ναός (‘inner shrine/sanctuary’), and ‘ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିର’ (Shree Mandir) is the everyday honorific popular name for the Puri Jagannath Temple itself. A literal-minded translator reaching for ମନ୍ଦିର (since no other common Odia word for ‘temple’ exists) would evoke the single most iconic religious building in Odia cultural life. The descriptive ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ବାସସ୍ଥାନ (‘God’s dwelling place’) is required instead.

Trinitarian Benediction

Odia name: ତ୍ରିଏକ ଆଶୀର୍ବାଦ
Key terms: grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, love of God, fellowship of the Holy Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian

The closing Trinitarian formula requires simultaneous, exact reuse of five baseline Critical/High terms (କୃପା, ପ୍ରଭୁ, ଯୀଶୁ, ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା) plus ସହଭାଗିତା and ପ୍ରେମ; per the baseline’s cross-document consistency mandate (cf. Romans 1:16-17, 8:28, 10:9-10), this verse’s rendering must be fixed once and never vary across any 2 Corinthians curriculum document.

High Risk Doctrines

Ministry of Reconciliation

Odia name: ମିଳନର ସେବକାର୍ଯ୍ୟ
Key terms: ministry of reconciliation, ambassadors, word of reconciliation
Review routing: Human theologian

διακονία must never be rendered with plain ସେବା in this apostolic-commission sense, since ସେବା is the exact word for the hereditary, caste-linked ritual service (seba) performed by Jagannath temple functionaries (sevayats/pandaas) at Puri — an inherited, status-bound office, the opposite of Paul’s freely-received, non-hereditary commission to proclaim reconciliation.

New Creation in Christ

Odia name: ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କଠାରେ ନୂତନ ସୃଷ୍ଟି
Key terms: new creation, old things passed away, new things have come
Review routing: Human theologian

Odia/Hindu cosmology (sṛṣṭi-sthiti-pralaya, the creation-preservation-dissolution cycle attributed to Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva, and the cyclical yuga framework) frames ‘creation’ as one recurring phase of a repeating cosmic cycle, not a singular, permanent event. ନୂତନ ସୃଷ୍ଟି must be taught, via translator note, as a one-time, non-repeating transformation of the individual/cosmos in Christ — the same cyclical-renewal caution class the baseline already applies to ପୁନରୁତ୍ଥାନ and ଦେହଧାରଣ regarding Nabakalebara.

Christian Identity in Christ

Odia name: ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କଠାରେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟିୟ ପରିଚୟ
Key terms: in Christ, according to the flesh, no longer regard anyone
Review routing: Human theologian

Reuses and extends the Romans baseline doctrine of the same name; κατὰ σάρκα (‘according to the flesh,’ worldly evaluative standard) must not be rendered with the baseline’s Incarnation term ଦେହଧାରଣ, a distinct theological sense of the same Greek root σάρξ — conflating the two senses would blur the Incarnation doctrine with a merely evaluative idiom.

Suffering and Comfort in Ministry

Odia name: ସେବକାର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ କ୍ଲେଶ ଓ ସାନ୍ତ୍ୱନା
Key terms: affliction, comfort, treasure in jars of clay, outer man / inner man, guarantee of the Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian

θλῖψις (‘affliction’) must never be rendered with କ୍ଲେଶ (kleśa), a term with an established, specific meaning in popular Hindu yogic philosophy (Patanjali’s five root afflictions — avidyā, asmitā, rāga, dveṣa, abhiniveśa) caused by ignorance and resolved through meditative technique/enlightenment. Biblical affliction is external, historical, ministry-related suffering resolved through hope of resurrection and God’s comfort, not an inner defilement dissolved by yogic discipline.

The New Covenant versus the Old

Odia name: ନୂତନ ନିୟମ ବନାମ ପୁରାତନ ନିୟମ
Key terms: new covenant, old covenant, letter and Spirit, veil, freedom
Review routing: Human theologian

ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା (‘freedom,’ 3:17) must never be rendered ମୁକ୍ତି, already baseline-forbidden for ‘salvation’ due to its mokṣa/release-from-rebirth-cycle association; the Spirit-given freedom described here could otherwise be conflated with liberation from saṃsāra. The ‘veil’ (κάλυμμα) must use the neutral ଆବରଣ rather than ଘୁଙ୍ଘଟ, the everyday Odia bridal/marital modesty head-covering, which would import unrelated cultural associations.

Sincerity and Apostolic Authority

Odia name: ନିଷ୍କପଟତା ଓ ପ୍ରେରିତିୟ ଅଧିକାର
Key terms: sincerity, fear of the Lord, ambassadors, we do not commend ourselves
Review routing: Human theologian

ନିଷ୍କପଟତା (sincerity) is a recurring anchor term across chs. 1, 2, 4, 11 requiring consistent rendering. ରାଜଦୂତ (‘royal envoy,’ for ‘ambassador,’ 5:20) is required over bare ଦୂତ (risks an angelic-messenger reading) or ପ୍ରତିନିଧି (too mundane an appointee) to preserve the sense of delegated royal authority matching ପ୍ରଭୁ’s Lordship register.

Generosity and Grace in Giving

Odia name: ଉଦାରତା ଓ ଦାନରେ କୃପା
Key terms: grace-gift of giving, cheerful giver, equality, indescribable gift
Review routing: Human theologian

χάρις in chs. 8-9 names both saving grace and the Macedonians’ grace-motivated generosity with the same word already reserved in baseline as κρις/କୃପା; this creates a genuine syncretism risk with Odisha’s established dāna (religious giving/almsgiving to temples, Brahmins, and the poor) and chadhaa (temple-offering) tradition, in which giving is widely understood as generating religious merit (puṇya). Standing translator note required: ‘cheerful giving’ flows from grace already received, not merit accumulated — the same grace-versus-merit vigilance the baseline already applies to Romans 3-4 and 11:5-6.

Genuine versus False Apostleship

Odia name: ସତ୍ୟ ଓ ମିଥ୍ୟା ପ୍ରେରିତତ୍ୱ
Key terms: false apostles, super-apostles, angel of light, signs of a true apostle, weapons of warfare
Review routing: Human theologian

ମିଥ୍ୟା ପ୍ରେରିତ (‘false apostles’) and ଅତି ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ପ୍ରେରିତ (‘super-apostles,’ preserving Paul’s irony) both reuse the baseline ପ୍ରେରିତ exactly; risk lies in apostleship collapsing into a generic guru or hereditary temple-priest (pandaa/sevayat) role recognized by ritual/hereditary status rather than a commissioned, sent, and validated office — the same collision class the Romans baseline already flags for ପ୍ରେରିତ.

Boasting Only in the Lord

Odia name: ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କଠାରେ ଗର୍ବ
Key terms: boasting, boast in the Lord, self-commendation
Review routing: Human theologian

καυχάομαι must be carefully distinguished at every occurrence as either illegitimate self-commendation (used against the false ‘super-apostles’) or legitimate glorying ‘in the Lord’ (reusing baseline ପ୍ରଭୁ exactly, never ଠାକୁର); a flattened single rendering would erase Paul’s central rhetorical paradox across chs. 10-12.

Spiritual Warfare and Discernment

Odia name: ଆତ୍ମିକ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ଓ ବିଚାରଶକ୍ତି
Key terms: the god of this age, angel of light, Belial, strongholds, weapons of warfare
Review routing: Human theologian

4:4’s ironic ‘the god of this age’ deliberately applies the generic Hindu-register word ଦେବତା to Satan; this requires a standing translator note that this never legitimizes Satan as a god among many, and must never be confused with ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, reserved exclusively for the true God throughout the epistle.

Triumph of Christ

Odia name: ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କ ବିଜୟ
Key terms: triumphal procession, fragrance of Christ
Review routing: Human theologian

θριαμβεύω must never be rendered with a procession-noun such as ବିଜୟଯାତ୍ରା, which would risk direct visual and conceptual overlap with Odisha’s own most iconic religious procession, the annual Rath Yatra, in which Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are paraded through Puri’s streets on giant chariots. Rath Yatra depicts a deity’s temporary journey and return, not an ongoing cosmic reign — this extends the baseline’s existing Rath Yatra caution (previously scoped only to Kingdom Mission imagery) explicitly to this passage. A verbal/descriptive phrase avoiding any noun equivalent to ଯାତ୍ରା (‘procession/pilgrimage journey’) is required.

Paradise and Heavenly Vision

Odia name: ପାରାଦୀଶ ଓ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗୀୟ ଦର୍ଶନ
Key terms: paradise, third heaven, caught up
Review routing: Human theologian

ସ୍ୱର୍ଗ (svarga) in Hindu cosmology names a temporary heavenly abode where the fruits of accumulated good karma are enjoyed for a finite period before rebirth (saṃsāra). Standing translator note required distinguishing this ‘third heaven’/paradise as God’s own eternal, non-cyclical presence, not a temporary karma-determined heavenly waystation within an ongoing rebirth cycle.

Medium Risk Doctrines

Assurance by the Spirit: Guarantee and Seal

Odia name: ଆତ୍ମାଙ୍କ ବିଆନା ଓ ମୋହରାଙ୍କନ ଦ୍ୱାରା ନିଶ୍ଚିତତା
Key terms: guarantee, deposit, seal, Spirit as pledge
Review routing: Native speaker review

ବିଆନା (the everyday Odia commercial/property earnest-money deposit term) provides a natural, concrete equivalent for ἀρραβών with low collision risk; must pair correctly with baseline ପବିତ୍ର ଆତ୍ମା (never ପରମାତ୍ମା).

Godly Sorrow and Repentance

Odia name: ଈଶ୍ୱରୀୟ ଦୁଃଖ ଓ ମନ ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ
Key terms: godly sorrow, worldly sorrow, repentance
Review routing: Native speaker review

The contrast between ଈଶ୍ୱରୀୟ ଦୁଃଖ (sorrow leading to repentance and life) and worldly sorrow (leading to death/despair) must be preserved; risk is primarily one of clarity rather than syncretism, since Odia has no dominant competing religious framework specifically for this contrast.

Judgment Seat of Christ

Odia name: ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କ ବିଚାର ଆସନ
Key terms: judgment seat of Christ, give account
Review routing: Native speaker review

ବିଚାର ଆସନ must be understood as believers’ accountability-tribunal, distinct from unbelievers’ condemnatory judgment; risk is one of conflating this with the Assurance of Salvation doctrine’s condemnation-language rather than a specific cultural-vocabulary collision.

Unequal Partnership and Separation

Odia name: ଅସମାନ ସହଭାଗିତାରୁ ପୃଥକତା
Key terms: unequally yoked, come out from among them, be separate
Review routing: Native speaker review

ଅସମାନ ଜୁଆଳି (the ox-yoke image) carries strong, natural resonance with Odisha’s agrarian farming culture with low collision risk; the main translation task is clarity about the nature of the binding partnership warned against, not cultural-term substitution.

Low Risk Doctrines

Thanksgiving

Odia name: ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ସ୍ତୁତି
Key terms: thanksgiving, give thanks, grateful
Review routing: Automated review

Standard term reused from baseline; minor risk of over-ritualization only.

Christian Fellowship

Odia name: ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟିୟ ସହଭାଗିତା
Key terms: fellowship, holy kiss, greet one another
Review routing: Automated review

Reuses baseline ସହଭାଗିତା and ପବିତ୍ର; the ‘holy kiss’ greeting form requires only a cultural clarifying note, not a doctrinal substitution.
