Linguistic Gap Analysis

Linguistic Gap Analysis: Revelation 1–22 (English → Odia)

Purpose and Method

This analysis identifies where the Odia language — and specifically the established Odia Christian Bible-translation tradition already anchored by the Romans baseline Language Package — has (a) no existing vocabulary for a Revelation concept, (b) existing vocabulary that is doctrinally usable but weak/imprecise, or (c) existing vocabulary that is dangerously “crowded” by collision with terms already carrying strong meaning inside Odisha’s dominant devotional traditions (Jagannath Vaishnavism centered at Puri; the regional Shakta tradition of Maa Samaleswari and Maa Tarini; broader Hindu cosmology of rebirth, karma, and the lokas).

Revelation intensifies nearly every risk category the Romans baseline already flagged (Lord/ପ୍ରଭୁ vs ଠାକୁର; Power/ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ vs ଶକ୍ତି; Resurrection/ପୁନରୁତ୍ଥାନ vs ପୁନର୍ଜନ୍ମ; Salvation/ପରିତ୍ରାଣ vs ମୋକ୍ଷ) and introduces several genuinely new collision zones specific to apocalyptic-symbolic genre and to Odisha’s temple-image devotional world (Nabakalebara image-renewal; ପ୍ରତିମା as sacred image; the Puri triad’s family-of-deities pattern; Ananta Śeṣa serpent iconography). This document works doctrine-first, per the curriculum’s nine Bible Doctrines, then cross-checks term-first, then closes with a chapter-by-chapter full-book coverage sweep as required by the PRD’s full-coverage mandate.

All renderings proposed here are carried forward exactly into bible_term_registry.json and the Revelation extension of translation_memory.json; nothing here contradicts those already-resolved entries. Where a decision is still open, it is marked OPEN and cross-referenced to the Outstanding Items list.

Part 1 — Doctrine Vocabulary Matrix

#Doctrine (curriculum)Available Odia TermsWeaknesses / GapsRecommended Strategy
1The Return and Reign of Christପ୍ରଭୁ [=TM], ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ରାଜ୍ୟ [=TM], ରାଜାଧିରାଜ ଓ ପ୍ରଭୁମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରଭୁ, ସିଂହାସନ, ପ୍ରଭାତୀ ତାରା, ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ୟNo native Odia vocabulary distinguishes a returning, presently-absent king from a king who never left; Odia royal/kingship vocabulary (ରାଜା, ରାଜ୍ୟ) is generic and carries no “already-but-not-yet” nuance. The strongest available cultural analogy for a triumphant procession — Rath Yatra, Jagannath’s annual chariot festival — depicts a temporary outward journey and return to the same temple, the opposite theological shape of Christ’s once-for-all, permanent, cosmic return to reign forever.Reuse locked baseline terms exactly; explicitly forbid Rath Yatra imagery in any explanatory note or illustration (already flagged in baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md); anchor 11:15 and 19:16 as fixed cross-document theses. Teaching notes must state the once-for-all, non-repeating nature of Christ’s return.
2The Sovereignty of God over Historyପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ [=TM], ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନ (Almighty, resolved), ସିଂହାସନ, ଆଲଫା ଓ ଓମେଗା, ଆରମ୍ଭ ଓ ଶେଷEveryday Odia explanatory speech for “why things happen as they happen” defaults overwhelmingly to ଭାଗ୍ୟ (fate) or an impersonal କର୍ମ-law running across cycles of time (kalpas/yugas), exactly the frameworks the baseline already flagged for Romans 8:28’s ପରିଚାଳନା. Revelation intensifies this because its subject is cosmic history, inviting a cyclical-time reading even more readily than Romans.ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନ is the required rendering for παντοκράτωρ (never the ଶକ୍ତି-rooted ସର୍ବଶକ୍ତିମାନ). ଆରମ୍ଭ ଓ ଶେଷ requires a mandatory framing note contrasting linear, purposive, terminating history with kalpa/yuga cyclical cosmology at every occurrence (1:8; 21:6; 22:13).
3Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecutionସାକ୍ଷ୍ୟ / ସାକ୍ଷୀ, କ୍ଲେଶ / ମହାକ୍ଲେଶ, ପରୀକ୍ଷା, ସହନଶୀଳତା / ଧୈର୍ଯ୍ୟ, ବିଜୟୀ ହେଉଥିବା ଜଣOdia ସାକ୍ଷୀ is a neutral legal-witness term with no built-in cost/death connotation, unlike the Greek’s martys → “martyr” semantic drift. ସହନଶୀଳତା / ଧୈର୍ଯ୍ୟ risk being read as passive, fatalistic acceptance of suffering-as-karma rather than active, hope-fueled endurance. ‘କ୍ଲେଶ’ is a loaded technical term in Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra (the five inward afflictions dissolved through yogic discipline) — an inward, self-resolved affliction, the opposite of Revelation’s external, imposed persecution.Retain ସାକ୍ଷ୍ୟ/ସାକ୍ଷୀ but require accompanying context/teaching notes marking the martyrdom sense wherever it is active (6:9; 12:11; 17:6; 20:4). Require a disambiguating note on କ୍ଲେଶ distinguishing external persecution from the Yogic technical sense at first occurrence (1:9). Frame ସହନଶୀଳତା explicitly as hope-grounded in Christ’s certain victory (12:11’s own definition of “overcoming” is the interpretive key, locked for cross-document consistency).
4Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saintsଆଚରଣ ଅନୁସାରେ ବିଚାର / କର୍ମ ଅନୁସାରେ ବିଚାର, କ୍ରୋଧ, ଅଗ୍ନି ହ୍ରଦ, ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ, ମହାନ ଶ୍ୱେତ ସିଂହାସନ, ଜୀବନ ପୁସ୍ତକ, ପ୍ରତିମାପୂଜକThis is the single most crowded doctrinal neighborhood in the whole book. କର୍ମ (“works/deeds”) carries automatic, impersonal, multi-lifetime moral-ledger connotations in ordinary Odia religious speech; ଅଗ୍ନି ହ୍ରଦ risks conflation with Naraka, one of several temporary hells within an ongoing rebirth cosmology; ଜୀବନ ପୁସ୍ତକ risks being read as a karma-ledger rather than a grace-given register.Prefer ଆଚରଣ ଅନୁସାରେ ବିଚାର over କର୍ମ ଅନୁସାରେ ବିଚାର wherever syntax permits (20:12-13; 22:12); wherever କର୍ମ is unavoidable, anchor it explicitly to a personal God’s single, final, once-for-all evaluation. ଅଗ୍ନି ହ୍ରଦ and ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ require mandatory teaching notes stating finality/non-cyclicality — the terminal opposite pole of ପୁନରୁତ୍ଥାନ. ପ୍ରତିମାପୂଜକ (21:8; 22:15) requires the most careful pastoral framing in this doctrine cluster given direct resonance with Odisha’s own temple-image devotion; frame as a general category of misplaced ultimate allegiance, never a targeted cultural accusation.
5The New Heaven and New Earth (core passage doctrine, Rev 21:1-8)ନୂତନ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗ / ନୂତନ ପୃଥିବୀ, ନୂତନ ଯିରୁଶାଲମ, ମୁଁ କୌଣସି ମନ୍ଦିର ଦେଖିଲି ନାହିଁ, ମନ୍ଦିର, ବାସ କରିବେ, ଜୀବନ ଜଳସ୍ୱର୍ଗ in ordinary Odia religious usage names a temporary, merit-based heavenly realm awaiting eventual rebirth, not a final and permanent state; ମନ୍ଦିର, both affirmed (11:1; used correctly for ναός) and then dramatically negated (21:22), carries the heaviest possible cultural weight given the Puri Jagannath Mandira’s centrality to Odia religious/cultural identity; ବାସ କରିବେ risks being read through the Nabakalebara framework of divine essence ritually indwelling a renewable physical image rather than God’s direct, unmediated, personal presence.ନୂତନ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗ / ପୃଥିବୀ requires a note explicitly marking once-for-all qualitative renewal, not a recurring kalpa/pralaya cosmic cycle, and not a temporary merit-heaven. 21:22’s “no temple” statement is a Critical, mandatory-theologian-review item requiring fulfillment framing (God’s presence surpasses, not dismisses, the need for a mediating structure) — never polemical framing against the Puri temple. This is the anchor doctrine of the core passage and should receive the fullest teaching-note treatment of any single verse in the curriculum.
6The Church as Bride of Christବଧୂ, ମେଷଶାବକଙ୍କ ବିବାହ (ଭୋଜ), ମଣ୍ଡଳୀ [=TM]ବଧୂ risks assimilation to consort-goddess frameworks well known in Odia Vaishnav devotional narrative — most specifically the popular legend of Goddess Lakshmi’s estrangement from and return to Jagannath, a consort deity narrative pattern. The wedding-feast image also risks reduction to Odisha’s own Ananda Bazaar mahaprasad-sharing custom at Puri, a repeatable communal ritual meal rather than a once-for-all covenant consummation.Retain ବଧୂ / ମେଷଶାବକଙ୍କ ବିବାହ but require a mandatory translator note at first full development (19:7) explicitly distinguishing the corporate-redeemed-people symbol from any consort-goddess narrative; Ananda Bazaar may be referenced only as an illustrative, imperfect bridge point per the baseline’s own caution on Romans 14, never presented as equivalent.
7Worship of the Lambମେଷଶାବକ, ଉପାସନା କରିବା / ପ୍ରଣାମ କରିବା, ଯୋଗ୍ୟ, ଧୂପ, ପବିତ୍ର ପବିତ୍ର ପବିତ୍ର, ପ୍ରାଣୀମେଷଶାବକ itself is comparatively safe (established Christian usage), but the worship verb προσκυνέω is the book’s central crowded-neighborhood problem: ପ୍ରଣାମ is the everyday physical bowing gesture Odia Hindus perform before Jagannath and other consecrated images, used ~24 times across both true and false worship in Revelation. ଧୂପ (incense) is the standard word for daily ritual incense-offering in the Jagannath temple’s own service schedule (chhatiśā niyoga).Maintain the object-sensitive double rendering already resolved in the term registry: ଉପାସନା କରିବା exclusively for worship of God/the Lamb; ପ୍ରଣାମ କରିବା descriptively for the beast-worshippers’ external act. This split must be checked at every one of the ~24 occurrences without exception — a single lapse would blur the book’s central moral fork. ଧୂପ (5:8; 8:3-4) requires a note reframing incense as a figure for direct, unmediated prayer, not efficacious ritual offering.
8Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretationପ୍ରକାଶନ, ନିଗୂଢ଼ ତତ୍ତ୍ୱ, ଚିହ୍ନ / ଲକ୍ଷଣ, ମହା ବାବିଲନ, ପଶୁର ସଂଖ୍ୟା, ସହସ୍ର ବର୍ଷOdia has no dedicated register for “apocalyptic genre” as distinct from ordinary narrative or prophecy; without explicit genre-framing notes, readers default to either flat literalism (numbers, beasts as literal predictions) or, conversely, to a Tantric/esoteric-knowledge framework via ରହସ୍ୟ (“mystery” = secret teaching for initiates), which is the opposite of Revelation’s openly-proclaimed disclosure.ମୁସ୍ତ prefer ନିଗୂଢ଼ ତତ୍ତ୍ୱ over ରହସ୍ୟ for μυστήριον throughout. Every symbolic number (7, 12, 24, 144000, 1000, 666) must carry a first-occurrence teaching note establishing the genre convention; retain Arabic numerals per baseline citation practice to avoid encouraging numerological over-reading through spelled-out or Odia-numeral forms.
9Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evilମହାସର୍ପ, ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ସର୍ପ, ଶୟତାନ / ଦିଆବଳ, ପଶୁ, ପଶୁର ପ୍ରତିମା, ଚିହ୍ନ, ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ, ବିଜୟୀ ହେଉଥିବା ଜଣThis doctrine sits directly on top of the two most dangerous crowded neighborhoods in the whole Language Package: (a) ମହାସର୍ପ/ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ସର୍ପ for δράκων/ὄφις collides with Ananta Śeṣa, the revered cosmic serpent-support of Vishnu and Balabhadra, a positive divine vehicle in Odia Vaishnav iconography, not an inherently evil figure; (b) ପଶୁର ପ୍ରତିମା for εἰκὼν τοῦ θηρίου collides with ପ୍ରତିମା as the ordinary word for Jagannath’s own consecrated, periodically-renewed (Nabakalebara) sacred image.Every occurrence of ମହାସର୍ପ/ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ସର୍ପ must carry the Genesis-3 identification as a built-in disambiguator (already present in the text itself at 12:9; 20:2) and a mandatory theologian-reviewed note. ପଶୁର ପ୍ରତିମା requires mandatory theologian review at every occurrence with pastoral framing centered on the text’s own internal logic (a lifeless copy demanding worship due God alone), never an unexplained equation with any living community’s devotional practice. Assurance’s climactic vindication (20:10; 20:14-15; 21:4 — death itself abolished) should be taught alongside these terms to keep the doctrine’s hopeful thrust primary, not merely its adversarial vocabulary.

Part 2 — Missing Vocabulary vs. Crowded Semantic Neighborhoods

2.1 Genuinely Missing Vocabulary (no existing Odia term; requires coinage or descriptive phrase)

ConceptGapResolution
Abyss / bottomless pit (ἄβυσσος)No single Odia noun names an infernal pit distinct from the Hindu netherworld ପାତାଳDescriptive coinage ଅଗାଧ ଗର୍ତ୍ତ (“bottomless pit”), built from ordinary vocabulary rather than borrowed cosmological terminology.
Second death (ὁ θάνατος ὁ δεύτερος)Odia death-vocabulary (ମୃତ୍ୟୁ) has no native compound distinguishing a final, terminal death from ordinary death within a rebirth-expecting worldviewCompound ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ (literal calque), always taught with the finality note.
Great white throne’s judicial “whiteness” (θρόνος λευκὸς μέγας)ଶ୍ୱେତ (“white”) in Odia devotional contexts more readily suggests ritual/ceremonial purity (white clothing worn for temple visits, mourning, or ascetic status) than moral-forensic purityRetain ମହାନ ଶ୍ୱେତ ସିଂହାସନ but require the note that the purity signified is moral/judicial, following the baseline’s existing ପବିତ୍ର-vs-ritual-purity distinction pattern.
”It is done” (Γέγονεν) as a structural inclusio markerOdia has no fixed liturgical completion-formula equivalent to this Greek perfect-tense declarationRender ସମ୍ପନ୍ନ ହେଲା consistently at both occurrences (16:17; 21:6), ideally matching the Odia Bible’s existing rendering of John 19:30 for cross-canonical resonance.
Apocalyptic genre-marker vocabulary generallyOdia lacks a settled metalanguage register for “vision/symbol/apocalyptic sign” as a genre category distinct from ordinary prophecyRely on ପ୍ରକାଶନ, ଚିହ୍ନ/ଲକ୍ଷଣ, ନିଗୂଢ଼ ତତ୍ତ୍ୱ plus mandatory teaching-note scaffolding rather than attempting a single coined genre-term.

2.2 Crowded Semantic Neighborhoods (existing term is available but dangerously multivalent; requires fencing)

Odia Term/RootCompeting Meaning in Dominant TraditionFencing Strategy
ପ୍ରତିମା (image, “prostitute” reserved separately)Jagannath’s own consecrated sacred wooden image, periodically renewed via NabakalebaraReserve for εἰκὼν τοῦ θηρίου only; mandatory theologian review + pastoral note at every occurrence (Critical).
ମହାସର୍ପ / ସର୍ପAnanta Śeṣa, the revered serpent-support of Vishnu/BalabhadraAlways co-occur with the Genesis-3 identification clause; never used unqualified (Critical).
ଠାକୁରJagannath specifically (“ବଡ଼ ଠାକୁର”)Absolutely forbidden for κύριος/θεός per baseline; carried forward unchanged into Revelation, where the risk is heightened by title-stacking (King of kings AND Lord of lords).
ଶକ୍ତି-root (incl. ସର୍ବଶକ୍ତିମାନ)Distinct divine-feminine power in the regional Shakta tradition (Maa Samaleswari, Maa Tarini)Forbidden for δύναμις/παντοκράτωρ; use ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ-rooted ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ and ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନ exclusively.
ମନ୍ଦିର / ଦେଉଳThe Puri Jagannath temple itselfଦେଉଳ remains fully forbidden (baseline); ମନ୍ଦିର is correctly used for ναός (an actual sanctuary referent) but never for ἐκκλησία — the two must never be interchanged, and 21:22’s negation requires the heaviest pastoral care in the curriculum.
କର୍ମImpersonal, multi-lifetime moral-ledger lawAvoid where possible for κρίνω κατὰ τὰ ἔργα; where unavoidable, always explicitly personalize as a single, final divine evaluation.
ମୋକ୍ଷ / ମୁକ୍ତିRelease from the rebirth cycleForbidden for σωτηρία (carried forward unchanged).
ପାତାଳAn actual Hindu cosmological netherworld (abode of the Nagas, one of the fourteen lokas)Forbidden for both Ἅιδης and ἄβυσσος; use transliteration ହାଦେସ୍ and coinage ଅଗାଧ ଗର୍ତ୍ତ respectively.
ରହସ୍ୟTantric/esoteric secret knowledge reserved for initiatesAvoid for μυστήριον; use ନିଗୂଢ଼ ତତ୍ତ୍ୱ, which does not carry the initiates-only connotation.
ସ୍ୱର୍ଗA temporary, merit-based heavenly waypoint prior to eventual rebirthUnavoidable as the ordinary word for “heaven,” but ନୂତନ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗ requires an explicit permanence/finality note distinguishing it from the temporary sense.
ଇନ୍ଦ୍ରଧନୁLiterally “Indra’s bow,” naming the Vedic sky-deity IndraUnavoidable as the universal everyday word for rainbow; low functional risk in modern usage but a brief Noahic-covenant anchoring note is worthwhile at 4:3.
ପ୍ରଣାମThe everyday physical bowing gesture performed before Jagannath and other deity imagesReserved only for the false-worship (beast-directed) sense of προσκυνέω; never for God/Lamb-directed worship, which takes ଉପାସନା କରିବା instead.
କ୍ଲେଶPatañjali’s Yoga Sūtra technical term for inward mental afflictionRequires disambiguating note distinguishing Revelation’s external persecution sense from the Yogic inward-affliction sense.
ବଧୂConsort-goddess narrative patterns (e.g., Lakshmi-Jagannath)Requires translator note fencing the corporate-people symbolism against any consort-deity reading.
ଧୂପDaily ritual incense-offering in Jagannath temple service (chhatiśā niyoga)Requires reframing note: prayer-as-incense is unmediated and non-ritual, not an efficacious offering practice.

Part 3 — Transliteration vs. Paraphrase Decisions

Following the baseline’s own precedent (ପରିତ୍ରାଣ retained rather than translated toward ମୋକ୍ଷ; ମସୀହା transliterated rather than paraphrased), the following decisions are logged for Revelation:

3.1 Decided: Transliterate (avoid a native equivalent entirely)

TermNative Alternative RejectedRationale
Satan / the Devil → ଶୟତାନ / ଦିଆବଳAny native term from a generic malevolent-spirit categoryPrevents Satan from reading as merely one troublesome spirit among many rather than the singular ultimate personal adversary.
Hades → ହାଦେସ୍ପାତାଳପାତାଳ is an actual, named Hindu cosmological location; transliteration follows the identical logic already used for ପରିତ୍ରାଣ vs ମୋକ୍ଷ.
Alpha and Omega → ଆଲଫା ଓ ଓମେଗାA wholly domesticated Odia paraphraseFixed liturgical self-title formula; transliteration preserves its formulaic, cross-cultural recognizability, glossed once with ଆରମ୍ଭ ଓ ଶେଷ.
Amen / Hallelujah → ଆମେନ / ହାଲେଲୁୟାAny Odia paraphrase (“truly,” “praise”)Established transliterated liturgical exclamations per baseline transliteration standards; far higher frequency in Revelation’s worship scenes than in Romans.
Babylon (the great) → ମହା ବାବିଲନA descriptive Odia phrase for “corrupt world-system”Retaining the proper noun preserves the OT-echo and requires (rather than substitutes for) an explanatory teaching note on its symbolic referent.

3.2 Decided: Paraphrase / Descriptive Coinage (avoid transliteration)

TermTransliteration Alternative RejectedRationale
Abyss → ଅଗାଧ ଗର୍ତ୍ତ”ଆବୁସ୍” (transliteration)A transliterated neologism would communicate nothing to readers without extensive gloss; a plain descriptive coinage built from ordinary Odia words is more transparent and equally avoids the ପାତାଳ collision.
Almighty → ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନTransliterating παντοκράτωρAn existing (if newly assembled) Odia compound is preferable to an opaque transliteration for a term occurring 9 times in worship contexts where comprehension matters.
Mystery → ନିଗୂଢ଼ ତତ୍ତ୍ୱ”ମିଷ୍ଟେରୀ” (transliteration)Odia readers need the concept (“hidden-now-disclosed truth”), not an unfamiliar loanword; paraphrase also allows steering away from the ରହସ୍ୟ collision more effectively than a foreign loanword would.
Word of God (as title) → ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ବାକ୍ୟ”ଲୋଗୋସ୍” (transliteration of Logos)Odia Christian tradition already renders John 1:1’s Logos descriptively; transliterating “Logos” here would break consistency with existing Gospel-of-John translation convention.

3.3 Genuinely Contested — Requires Explicit Ruling (see Outstanding Items)

TermOption AOption BStatus
Dragon (δράκων)ମହାସର୍ପ (native, requires heavy fencing)Transliterated ଡ୍ରାଗନ୍ (avoids Ananta Śeṣa collision entirely but sacrifices comprehensibility and loses the text’s own “serpent” wordplay with ὄφις at 12:9/20:2, which must render as a recognizably serpentine image)RESOLVED in favor of Option A (native term + mandatory disambiguating note), because the text’s own Genesis-3 identification is designed to function as an in-text safeguard, and because a transliterated loanword would sever the deliberate serpent/dragon wordplay linking 12:3-4 to 12:9 and 20:2.
Image of the beast (εἰκὼν τοῦ θηρίου)ପଶୁର ପ୍ରତିମା (native, requires heaviest fencing in the book)A descriptive circumlocution avoiding ପ୍ରତିମା altogether (e.g., “ପଶୁର ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି/ଚିତ୍ର”)RESOLVED in favor of ପ୍ରତିମା (already logged in the term registry) because ପ୍ରତିମା is the text’s actual referent — a worshipped cultic image — and softening the vocabulary would blunt the passage’s own polemic; the risk is instead managed through mandatory review and pastoral framing rather than lexical avoidance.

Part 4 — Ranked List of Highest-Risk Ambiguities (Revelation, Odia)

Ranked by combined severity of doctrinal stakes × likelihood of cultural misreading × frequency of occurrence:

  1. Image of the beast (ପଶୁର ପ୍ରତିମା), Rev 13:14-15; 14:9,11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4 — direct lexical overlap with Jagannath’s own consecrated, periodically-renewed sacred image; the single highest-stakes term-collision in the entire Language Package (Romans or Revelation).
  2. “No temple” (21:22) and Temple (ναός) generally, Rev 3:12; 7:15; 11:1-2,19; 14:15,17; 15:5-6,8; 16:1,17; 21:22 — the core passage’s own doctrine (New Heaven and New Earth); requires fulfillment-not-polemic framing given the Puri Mandira’s centrality to Odia identity.
  3. Dragon / Ancient Serpent (ମହାସର୍ପ / ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ସର୍ପ), Rev 12:3-4,7,9,13,16-17; 13:2,4,11; 16:13; 20:2 — collides with Ananta Śeṣa, a positive serpent-figure in Odia Vaishnav iconography; near-total inversion of cultural valence.
  4. Almighty (παντοκράτωρ) root decision, 9 occurrences — ସର୍ବଶକ୍ତିମାନ (traditional) vs ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନ (baseline-consistent); getting this wrong at even one of nine occurrences reopens the Shakta-collision risk the baseline worked to close.
  5. Beast from the sea / earth (ପଶୁ), Rev 13; 14:9,11; 15:2; 16:2,10,13; 17; 19:19-20; 20:4,10 — risk of unintended association with Vishnu’s revered dasavatāra animal/hybrid forms (Matsya, Kūrma, Varāha, Narasiṃha) unless the deliberate theological inversion is taught explicitly.
  6. Worship verb (προσκυνέω) object-sensitive split (ଉପାସନା କରିବା / ପ୍ରଣାମ କରିବା), ~24 occurrences — a single inconsistent occurrence would blur the book’s central moral fork between true and false worship; ପ୍ରଣାମ is literally the gesture performed daily before Jagannath.
  7. Idolater (ପ୍ରତିମାପୂଜକ), Rev 21:8; 22:15 — names, in the ordinary Odia lexicon, the practice central to the region’s own devotional life; requires careful non-inflammatory framing as a universal category, not a targeted cultural charge.
  8. Bride / Marriage of the Lamb (ବଧୂ / ମେଷଶାବକଙ୍କ ବିବାହ), Rev 18:23; 19:7,9; 21:2,9; 22:17 — risk of assimilation to the Lakshmi–Jagannath consort-estrangement-and-return devotional narrative.
  9. Lion of the tribe of Judah (ଯିହୂଦା ବଂଶର ସିଂହ), Rev 5:5 — loose association with Narasiṃha, Vishnu’s lion-man avatāra, mitigated only if the immediate slain-Lamb reversal (5:6) is preserved intact in translation and teaching.
  10. Woman clothed with the sun (ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ବେଷ୍ଟିତା ନାରୀ), Rev 12:1-2,4-6,13-17 — radiant celestial-female imagery risks goddess-iconography association (Durga, Lakshmi, regional Shakta goddesses).
  11. Judged according to works (କର୍ମ ଅନୁସାରେ ବିଚାର / ଆଚରଣ ଅନୁସାରେ ବିଚାର), Rev 20:12-13; 22:12 — କର୍ମ’s automatic, impersonal, multi-lifetime ledger connotation is one of the most deeply embedded folk-theological frameworks in everyday Odia speech.
  12. Hades / Abyss vs. ପାତାଳ, Rev 1:18; 6:8; 9:1-2,11; 11:7; 17:8; 20:1,3,13-14 — risk of importing an entire named Hindu cosmological geography (Naga-world) into the text’s own, simpler two-stage death/judgment structure.
  13. Lake of Fire vs. Naraka, Rev 19:20; 20:10,14-15; 21:8 — risk of the judgment being read as one of several temporary hells within an ongoing rebirth cosmology rather than final and eternal.
  14. Mystery (ନିଗୂଢ଼ ତତ୍ତ୍ୱ vs ରହସ୍ୟ), Rev 1:20; 10:7; 17:5,7 — risk of Revelation’s openly disclosed truth being recast as Tantric-style initiates-only esoteric knowledge.
  15. Incense (ଧୂପ), Rev 5:8; 8:3-4; 18:13 — daily ritual-offering resonance with the Jagannath temple’s own chhatiśā niyoga incense service; must be taught as figure for unmediated prayer.

Part 5 — Full-Book Chapter Coverage Sweep

Per the PRD’s full-coverage mandate, every chapter of Revelation has been reviewed for load-bearing vocabulary and doctrine contribution. Chapters contributing no new terms beyond those already logged in Parts 1–4 (and in the companion 08_core_glossary.md) are marked explicitly as reviewed with no new items, rather than silently omitted.

Ch.Load-bearing content reviewedNew gap/collision items beyond Parts 1-4

Outstanding Items Requiring Human Theologian Ruling Before Phase 2

These carry forward unchanged from 08_core_glossary.md and remain open pending Phase 1 Step 9 (doctrine risk registry) sign-off:

  1. παντοκράτωρ (Almighty) — ସର୍ବଶକ୍ତିମାନ vs. ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନ. This analysis recommends ସର୍ବସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟବାନ as the only baseline-consistent option (see Part 3.1/3.3 reasoning); final sign-off remains theologian-owned.
  2. δράκων (dragon) and θηρίον (beast) — confirm ମହାସର୍ପ / ପଶୁ renderings and the mandatory scope/wording of accompanying disambiguating notes.
  3. εἰκὼν τοῦ θηρίου (image of the beast) and ναὸν οὐκ εἶδον (no temple, 21:22) — confirm pastoral framing approach given direct Jagannath-temple/Nabakalebara resonance.
  4. κρίνω κατὰ τὰ ἔργα (judged according to works, 20:12-13) — confirm whether କର୍ମ is permitted at all, or whether ଆଚରଣ/କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ should be used exclusively.
  5. New item from this analysis: ଧୂପ’s dual sense (prayer-metaphor at 5:8/8:3-4 vs. literal trade-cargo at 18:13) — confirm whether a footnote distinguishing the two senses is required at 18:13 to prevent cross-contamination with the prayer-metaphor teaching already established for the earlier occurrences.

This analysis is the direct input to analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md and analysis/08_core_glossary.md (already produced) and to the forthcoming Revelation extensions of bible_term_registry.json, doctrine_risk_registry.json, translation_memory.json, and 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.
