Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: ਧਾਰਮਿਕਤਾ
Transliteration: dharmikta
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ਧਰਮ, ਨਿਆਂ
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER use ਧਰਮ (Khalsa ਧਰਮ ਯੁੱਧ / cosmic duty association). Ephesians 4:24; 5:9; and the ‘breastplate of righteousness’ armor image at 6:14, where the forensic sense must still hold, not a dutiful-conduct sense.
Justification
Approved rendering: ਧਰਮੀ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਜਾਣਾ
Transliteration: dharmi thehraya jana
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ਮਾਫ਼ੀ ਮਿਲਣੀ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Not directly named by a single Greek term in Ephesians, but background-relevant for teaching notes distinguishing forgiveness (ਮਾਫ਼ੀ, Eph 1:7) from the fuller forensic declaration; never abbreviate to ਮਾਫ਼ੀ alone.
Salvation
Approved rendering: ਮੁਕਤੀ
Transliteration: mukti
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ਨਿਰਵਾਣ, ਮੋਖ, ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Retained per established Punjabi Bible precedent; MANDATORY clarifying gloss on every doctrinally load-bearing occurrence distinguishing decisive, once-for-all Christian mukti from Sikh mukti (gradual release from ਆਵਾਗਵਣ via Guru-mediated grace/Naam-simran). Ephesians 1:13; 2:5,8 (perfect tense, ‘have been saved’ — itself a teaching point against gradualism); 6:17 (helmet of salvation).
Resurrection
Approved rendering: ਪੁਨਰ-ਉਥਾਨ
Transliteration: punar-uthan
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਪੁਨਰ-ਜਨਮ, ਆਵਾਗਵਣ
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਪੁਨਰ-ਜਨਮ or ਆਵਾਗਵਣ. Ephesians 1:20; and by extension the compound union-with-Christ verbs at 2:5-6 (see made_alive_together, raised_and_seated_with_christ below), which must retain the same forbidden-substitution discipline.
Lord
Approved rendering: ਪ੍ਰਭੂ
Transliteration: prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਮਾਲਕ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ. Ephesians 1:2-3,15,17; 4:1,5,17; 5:8,10,17,19-20,22; 6:1,4,7-9,10,21,23-24.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ
Transliteration: Parmeshar da Puttar
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਦੇਵ-ਪੁਰਸ਼
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Full phrase required. Ephesians 4:13 (‘the knowledge of the Son of God’) — corporate maturity is measured against this Christological standard, not against individual attainment.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: ਦੇਹਧਾਰਨ
Transliteration: dehdharan
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: ਅਵਤਾਰ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਅਵਤਾਰ. Background doctrine for Ephesians 2:14-15 (‘in his flesh…abolishing the law’), where Christ’s real human flesh is the means of Jew-Gentile reconciliation; requires the same explanatory bridge (unique, once-for-all divine self-disclosure, not avatar-descent or a violation of ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ).
Messiah
Approved rendering: ਮਸੀਹ
Transliteration: Masih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Established transliterated term, used throughout Ephesians.
Jesus
Approved rendering: ਯਿਸੂ
Transliteration: Yisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਈਸਾ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਈਸਾ. Used throughout Ephesians.
God
Approved rendering: ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ
Transliteration: Parmeshar
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ, ਭਗਵਾਨ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ or ਭਗਵਾਨ. Used throughout Ephesians.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ
Transliteration: Pavittar Atma
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ਬ੍ਰਹਮ, ਜੋਤ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Never ਬ੍ਰਹਮ or ਜੋਤ. Ephesians 1:13-14; 2:18,22; 3:5,16; 4:3,30 (grieve_the_holy_spirit, see below); 5:18 (filled_with_the_spirit, see below); 6:17-18.
Father
Approved rendering: ਪਿਤਾ
Transliteration: Pita
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Ephesians 1:2-3,17; 2:18; 3:14-15; 4:6; 5:20; 6:23.
Works
Approved rendering: ਕੰਮ
Transliteration: kamm
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: ਕਰਮ
Original: ἔργον / ἔργα
Category: Salvation
NEW CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION. Ephesians 2:9. NEVER ਕਰਮ (karma) — the load-bearing term of the pan-Indic karma-merit system; using it would invert Paul’s argument, making ‘not by good karma’ sound consistent with, rather than opposed to, merit-accumulation theology. Use the religiously unmarked ਕੰਮ throughout this curriculum.
Predestine
Approved rendering: ਅੱਗੋਂ ਹੀ ਠਹਿਰਾਉਣਾ
Transliteration: aggon hi thehrauna
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਕਿਸਮਤ, ਹੁਕਮ
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election
NEW CENTRAL CRITICAL TERM. Ephesians 1:5,11. Never ਕਿਸਮਤ (fate) or karma-determinism; do not substitute ਹੁਕਮ. Ephesians uniquely frames this as a personal, loving decree (‘in love he predestined us,’ 1:5) — MANDATORY clarifying note required at every occurrence, on the model of the ਮੁਕਤੀ gloss.
Mystery
Approved rendering: ਭੇਤ
Transliteration: bhet
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Revelation
NEW CENTRAL CRITICAL TERM, MANDATORY GLOSS parallel to ਮੁਕਤੀ. Ephesians 1:9; 3:3,4,6,9; 5:32; 6:19. Gurbani’s ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ names a mystery approached progressively through Guru-mediated revelation and meditation; Paul’s μυστήριον is the opposite — a completed, historical, openly-proclaimed plan (Gentile inclusion), not an esoteric truth for spiritual adepts. Gloss required at every load-bearing occurrence.
Revelation
Approved rendering: ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ
Transliteration: pargatava
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ (and any ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-rooted noun)
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Revelation
NEW CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION. Ephesians 3:3,5. NEVER use a ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-rooted noun — it names the specific liturgical act of ceremonially installing/opening the Guru Granth Sahib (‘Prakash karna’) and the Guru’s-light-manifest concept. Use ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ or the verb ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਨਾ.
Whole Armor Of God
Approved rendering: ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ
Transliteration: Parmeshar da sara shastar
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
SINGLE MOST SIGNIFICANT CULTURAL-COLLISION TERM IN THIS CURRICULUM. Ephesians 6:11,13. ਸ਼ਸਤਰ sits inside living Khalsa Sant-Sipahi identity, the Five Ks (kirpan), and the Dasam Granth’s Shastar Naam Mala weapon-veneration. MANDATORY theological bridge required at every occurrence: exclusively spiritual, individually-issued, defensive equipment against ‘flesh and blood’ (6:12), categorically distinct from the martial ਧਰਮ ਯੁੱਧ tradition already Critical in the Romans baseline for ‘righteousness.’ Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Sword Of The Spirit
Approved rendering: ਤੇਗ਼ / ਤਲਵਾਰ
Transliteration: tegh / talwar
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: ਕਿਰਪਾਨ
Original: μάχαιρα τοῦ Πνεύματος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION. Ephesians 6:17. NEVER ਕਿਰਪਾਨ — a mandatory Sikh article of faith (one of the Five Ks) with its own distinct ceremonial identity. Use the generic, religiously unmarked ਤੇਗ਼ or ਤਲਵਾਰ.
Belt Of Truth Breastplate Of Righteousness
Approved rendering: ਸਚਾਈ ਦਾ ਕਮਰਬੰਦ / ਧਾਰਮਿਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੀਨਾ-ਬਸਤਰ
Transliteration: sachai da kamarband / dharmikta da seena-bastar
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: ζώνη τῆς ἀληθείας / θώραξ τῆς δικαιοσύνης
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:14. Righteousness component reuses ਧਾਰਮਿਕਤਾ (Critical, TM, never ਧਰਮ); the forensic sense must still hold within the armor metaphor.
Helmet Of Salvation
Approved rendering: ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਟੋਪ
Transliteration: mukti da top
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: περικεφαλαία τοῦ σωτηρίου
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:17. Reuses ਮੁਕਤੀ, TM, Critical — the mandatory Sikh/Christian mukti-distinction gloss applies at this occurrence as at every doctrinally load-bearing use.
Submit
Approved rendering: ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਣਾ
Transliteration: adhin hona
Doctrine: Household Codes: Christ-Centered Marriage
Original: ὑποτάσσομαι
Category: Household Relationships
Ephesians 5:21,22,24. Voluntary, ordered submission — not coerced subjugation — introduced MUTUALLY (5:21) before being applied to wives (5:22). MUST always be taught as one unit with 5:25-33’s counterbalancing demand that husbands sacrificially give themselves up; isolating 5:22-24 risks reinforcing existing patriarchal cultural defaults.
Savior
Approved rendering: ਮੁਕਤੀਦਾਤਾ
Transliteration: muktidaata
Doctrine: Household Codes: Christ-Centered Marriage
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Christology
Ephesians 5:23. New compound term rooted in TM ਮੁਕਤੀ; the same mandatory Sikh/Christian mukti-distinction gloss applies wherever this title is used — the personal-agent form of the salvation doctrine.
Great Mystery Marriage
Approved rendering: ਵੱਡਾ ਭੇਤ
Transliteration: vadda bhet
Doctrine: Marriage as a Picture of Christ and the Church
Original: μυστήριον μέγα
Category: Household Relationships
Ephesians 5:32. Reuses the ch.1/ch.3 mystery gloss; must connect back to the doctrinal definition of ਭੇਤ established there (completed, publicly revealed plan) rather than be treated as an unrelated devotional image.
Bondservant Master
Approved rendering: ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ / ਮਾਲਕ
Transliteration: ghulam / malak
Doctrine: Household Codes: Bondservants and Masters
Original: δοῦλος / κύριος
Category: Household Relationships
MOST CULTURALLY FRAUGHT PASSAGE IN THE LETTER. Ephesians 6:5-9. Resonates uncomfortably with historical bonded/caste labor and untouchability practices in Punjab’s social history. The equalizing ‘no partiality’ logic (6:9) before a heavenly Master who judges impartially MUST be explicitly and unmistakably foregrounded in every use of this passage; never teach 6:5 without 6:9 in the same unit.
Teacher
Approved rendering: ਸਿੱਖਿਅਕ / ਉਸਤਾਦ
Transliteration: sikhiak / ustad
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: ਗੁਰੂ
Original: διδάσκαλος
Category: Church
Ephesians 4:11. Direct extension of the Romans baseline’s apostleship rule to the ‘teacher’ office explicitly named here: NEVER ਗੁਰੂ, reserved exclusively for the Ten Gurus and the Guru Granth Sahib, however natural ਗੁਰੂ might feel as everyday Punjabi for ‘teacher.‘
Grieve The Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਨਾ
Transliteration: Pavittar Atma nu dukhi karna
Doctrine: Filled with the Holy Spirit
Original: λυπέω τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον
Category: God
Ephesians 4:30. Reuses ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ, TM, Critical. Important reinforcement of the Spirit’s personal nature — able to be ‘grieved,’ unlike an impersonal force or universal life-energy.
Redemption
Approved rendering: ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ
Transliteration: chhutkara
Doctrine: Redemption through Christ’s Blood
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 1:7,14. RETAINED specifically for ‘redemption’ even though ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ was rejected as an alternative for ‘salvation’ (ਮੁਕਤੀ) in the Romans baseline — the two Greek concepts (the ransom-price transaction vs. the resulting saved status) and their Punjabi renderings are DISTINCT and must not be conflated; do not treat the earlier rejection as a blanket ban.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ
Transliteration: khushkhabri
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Established Punjabi Christian term, “good news.” Ephesians 1:13; 3:6; 6:15,19. Must convey an authoritative, completed announcement, not one teaching among others alongside the Guru Granth Sahib.
Grace
Approved rendering: ਕਿਰਪਾ
Transliteration: kirpa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: ਮੇਹਰ, ਕਰਮ ਦਾ ਫਲ
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Sikh ਕਿਰਪਾ/ਨਦਰ theology is genuinely gift-like but Guru-mediated and Naam-simran-dependent. Ephesians 2:8 (ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਕਤੀ) is the single most load-bearing occurrence of this term in this curriculum; the mandatory Christ-exclusivity qualification applies at full force. Also 1:2,6-7; 2:5,7; 3:2,7-8; 4:7,29; 6:24.
Faith
Approved rendering: ਨਿਹਚਾ
Transliteration: nihcha
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ਸ਼ਰਧਾ, ਸਿਦਕ
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Ephesians 1:15; 2:8; 3:12,17; 4:5,13; 6:16,23. In 2:8, faith is the instrument, not the ground, of salvation.
Apostle
Approved rendering: ਰਸੂਲ
Transliteration: rasul
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: ਗੁਰੂ, ਦੂਤ
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਗੁਰੂ (reserved for the Ten Gurus/Guru Granth Sahib). Ephesians 1:1; 2:20; 3:5; 4:11 (fivefold ministry list).
Called
Approved rendering: ਸੱਦਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ
Transliteration: saddiya hoya
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Ephesians 4:1,4.

Saints
Approved rendering: ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਲੋਕ
Transliteration: pavittar lok
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: ਸੰਤ
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਸੰਤ (living Sant-dera tradition in Punjab). Ephesians 1:1,15,18; 2:19; 3:8,18; 4:12; 5:3; 6:18.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: ਪਵਿੱਤਰੀਕਰਨ
Transliteration: pavittarikaran
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ਸ਼ੁੱਧੀਕਰਨ
Original: ἁγιασμός / ἁγιάζω
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Verb form ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨਾ applies to Ephesians 5:26 (Christ’s cleansing of the church ‘by the washing of water with the word’) — must be framed as Christ’s own completed act, not a repeatable ritual-purification practice (Amrit ceremony, sacred bathing).
Adoption
Approved rendering: ਦੱਤਕ ਪੁੱਤਰਤਾ
Transliteration: dattak putrata
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: ਗੋਦ ਲੈਣਾ
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Ephesians 1:5, tied directly to προορίζω (‘he predestined us to adoption’) — election’s goal is full filial standing, not conditional favor.
Law
Approved rendering: ਬਿਵਸਥਾ
Transliteration: bivastha
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: ਧਰਮ, ਸ਼ਰੀਅਤ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਧਰਮ or ਸ਼ਰੀਅਤ. Ephesians 2:15 (‘the law of commandments’) as the abolished boundary-marker in the dividing-wall passage.
Sin
Approved rendering: ਪਾਪ
Transliteration: pap
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: ਅਧਰਮ
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Ephesians 2:1. Occurs alongside the new, distinct term ਅਪਰਾਧ (trespass, see below) — keep the two terms distinct where Paul uses both together.
Glory
Approved rendering: ਮਹਿਮਾ
Transliteration: mahima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ਜੋਤ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Never ਜੋਤ (Sikh transmitted-light doctrine). Ephesians 1:6,12,14,17-18; 3:13,16,21. This ਜੋਤ exclusion extends by analysis to the new term children_of_light (see below).
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: ਨਿਹਚਾ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ
Transliteration: nihcha di agiakari
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼
Original: ὑπακοή (cf. Rom 1:5)
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Conceptual background to Ephesians 2:8-10’s grace/works antithesis; must be kept distinct from the household code’s ordinary filial ὑπακούω/obey (Eph 6:1), a different, non-faith-rooted obedience concept.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ
Transliteration: Parmeshar di samratha
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ਸ਼ਕਤੀ
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ / κράτος
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਸ਼ਕਤੀ. Ephesians 1:19; 3:7,20. This exclusion is extended by analysis to the ‘cosmic powers of darkness’ list at 6:12 (see below) — never ਸ਼ਕਤੀ for evil forces either, to avoid appearing to identify a Hindu devotional power-concept with cosmic evil; use the neutral ਤਾਕਤਾਂ there instead.
Covenant
Approved rendering: ਨੇਮ
Transliteration: nem
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: ਸਮਝੌਤਾ
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Background to Ephesians 2:12 (‘covenants of promise’), from which Gentiles were formerly excluded.
Election
Approved rendering: ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ
Transliteration: Parmeshar di chon
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: ਕਿਸਮਤ
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐκλέγομαι
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). Never ਕਿਸਮਤ. Ephesians 1:4,11 (noun); verb form ਚੁਣਨਾ used for ἐκλέγομαι at 1:4.
Providence
Approved rendering: ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ
Transliteration: Parmeshar da prabandh
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: ਕਿਸਮਤ, ਹੁਕਮ
Original: πρόνοια (cf. οἰκονομία, Eph 3:9)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package (unchanged). NEVER ਕਿਸਮਤ; do not substitute ਹੁਕਮ. Must be kept distinct from the new Ephesians term stewardship_administration (οἰκονομία, Eph 3:2,9) — the two concepts share the Punjabi root ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ but are not identical; see that entry’s qualifying-phrase requirement.
Good Works
Approved rendering: ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮ
Transliteration: changay kamm
Doctrine: Good Works as Fruit, Not Root, of Salvation
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:10. The same Greek word (ἔργα) is excluded as salvation’s ground in 2:9 and affirmed as its fruit in 2:10; mandatory sequencing note required so Punjabi readers do not reintroduce merit-accumulation reasoning exactly where Paul refutes it. Never treat 2:9 and 2:10 as separable translation segments.
Gift
Approved rendering: ਦਾਤ
Transliteration: daat
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: δῶρον / δωρεά
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:8; 3:7; 4:7. Already carries positive freight from ਆਤਮਿਕ ਦਾਤਾਂ; applied here to salvation itself, must be explicit that it is given apart from all merit, reinforced by 2:9’s exclusion of ਕੰਮ.
Made Alive Together
Approved rendering: ਇਕੱਠੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣਾ
Transliteration: ikkathe jeevan dena
Doctrine: Union with Christ: Made Alive, Raised, and Seated Together
Original: συζωοποιέω
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:5. Must retain the ‘together with Christ’ union-sense, not a generic ‘gave life.’ Connects to ਪੁਨਰ-ਉਥਾਨ; never rendered with rebirth/reincarnation vocabulary.
Raised And Seated With Christ
Approved rendering: ਇਕੱਠੇ ਉਠਾਲਿਆ / ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ
Transliteration: ikkathe uthalia / ikkathe bithaia
Doctrine: Union with Christ: Made Alive, Raised, and Seated Together
Original: συνεγείρω / συγκαθίζω
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 2:6. Same resurrection-vocabulary discipline as ਪੁਨਰ-ਉਥਾਨ — never ਪੁਨਰ-ਜਨਮ/ਆਵਾਗਵਣ. A decisive, once-for-all positional reality, ties to assurance-of-salvation doctrine.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਸੀਹ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ)
Transliteration: sarir (Masih da sarir)
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: σῶμα
Category: Church
Ephesians 1:23; 2:16; 3:6; 4:4,12,16,25; 5:23,30. Corporate-organic metaphor; never a literal body or institutional building; distinguish sharply from ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ/ਮੰਦਰ associations already forbidden for ‘church.‘
Head Kephale
Approved rendering: ਸਿਰ
Transliteration: sir
Doctrine: Christ’s Headship over the Church
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church
Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; 5:23. Establish the self-giving, life-nourishing Christ-headship pattern (1:22-23; 5:25-29) BEFORE its marital application is introduced, to prevent a generic authority/dominance default given existing Punjabi patriarchal expectations.
Fullness
Approved rendering: ਭਰਪੂਰੀ
Transliteration: bharpuri
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Church
Ephesians 1:23; 3:19; 4:13. Church as the sphere/vessel through which Christ’s fullness is expressed — not a claim that the church itself is divine.
Temple
Approved rendering: ਹੈਕਲ
Transliteration: haikal
Doctrine: The Church as God’s Holy Temple
Rejected alternatives: ਮੰਦਰ
Original: ναός
Category: Church
Ephesians 2:21. Must use ਹੈਕਲ, never ਮੰਦਰ — extends the church/ਮੰਡਲੀ forbidden-substitution logic to this architectural metaphor.
Commonwealth Citizenship
Approved rendering: ਪਰਜਾ / ਨਾਗਰਿਕਤਾ
Transliteration: parja / nagrikta
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: πολιτεία
Category: Church
Ephesians 2:12,19. Distinguish from literal Indian/Punjabi political citizenship or qaum-membership; the point is spiritual belonging to God’s covenant people.
Dividing Wall
Approved rendering: ਵਿਚਕਾਰਲੀ ਕੰਧ
Transliteration: vichkarli kandh
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ
Category: Church
Ephesians 2:14. Maps with significant force onto caste barriers still socially operative in Punjab, including within Sikh communal life; genuine teaching opportunity, provided the text’s primary Jew/Gentile referent is not lost in application.
Reconcile
Approved rendering: ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਰਨਾ
Transliteration: milaap karna
Doctrine: Reconciliation to God and to One Another
Rejected alternatives: ਸੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਨਾ (as a separate, unrelated-sounding alternative)
Original: καταλλάσσω / ἀποκαταλλάσσω
Category: Church
Ephesians 2:16. Standardize on ਮਿਲਾਪ for BOTH the vertical (God-humanity) and horizontal (Jew-Gentile) senses per the Theological Consistency Rules — do not use two unrelated-sounding Punjabi words for the one underlying concept.
One New Humanity
Approved rendering: ਇੱਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ
Transliteration: ikk navaan manukh
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: εἷς καινός ἄνθρωπος
Category: Church
Ephesians 2:15. Must be read as one new CORPORATE humanity, not an especially holy individual or personal self-improvement; relevant to caste and qaum-identity application.
Fellow Heir Body Partaker
Approved rendering: ਸਾਂਝਾ ਵਾਰਸ / ਇੱਕੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਅੰਗ / ਸਾਂਝੀਦਾਰ
Transliteration: sanjha vaaras / ikko sarir da ang / sanjhidaar
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: συγκληρονόμος / σύσσωμος / συμμέτοχος
Category: Church
Ephesians 3:6. Three rare Pauline compound neologisms; retain the threefold repetition — do not flatten to a single generic ‘equal,’ preserving rhetorical weight against caste/qaum hierarchy.
Partiality
Approved rendering: ਪੱਖਪਾਤ
Transliteration: pakhpaat
Doctrine: Household Codes: Bondservants and Masters
Original: προσωπολημψία
Category: Church
Ephesians 6:9. Reinforces unity_of_jews_and_gentiles and universal_human_accountability doctrines from the Romans baseline; must not be softened.
Stewardship Administration
Approved rendering: ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ (ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ)
Transliteration: prabandh (kirpa da prabandh)
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: οἰκονομία
Category: Revelation
Ephesians 3:2,9. Distinguish from the Romans baseline’s ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ (providence, πρόνοια — God’s general governance); qualify as ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ (‘administration of grace’) so the shared ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ root does not cause the two distinct concepts to be conflated.
Boldness Access
Approved rendering: ਦਲੇਰੀ / ਪਹੁੰਚ
Transliteration: daleri / pahunch
Doctrine: Direct Access to God through Christ
Original: παρρησία / προσαγωγή
Category: Revelation
Ephesians 2:18; 3:12. Significant counter-cultural claim: direct, unmediated filial access to God contrasts with Guru-mediated, Sant’s-dera-mediated, or ritually-mediated approach to the Divine customary in Punjab; must be stated without qualification.
Knowledge Gnosis
Approved rendering: ਗਿਆਨ
Transliteration: gyan
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: γνῶσις
Category: Revelation
Ephesians 3:19. ਗਿਆਨ is the central term for Guru-mediated/meditative enlightenment in Sikh and Hindu tradition; Paul’s statement (love surpassing γνῶσις) is a claim about love’s surpassing experiential depth, NOT a polemic against a specific tradition’s gnosis — teaching notes must avoid implying an inter-religious critique not actually present in the text.
Flesh And Blood
Approved rendering: ਲਹੂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਸ
Transliteration: lahu ate maas
Doctrine: The Personal Reality of Spiritual Evil
Original: αἷμα καὶ σάρξ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:12. The essential interpretive key preventing the armor metaphor from being read as endorsing literal or political conflict; pair with every teaching of 6:11-17.
Cosmic Powers Of Darkness
Approved rendering:
Transliteration: hakumataan, adhikaar, is jugg de hanere de haakam, badi diyaan atmik taaktaan
Doctrine: The Personal Reality of Spiritual Evil
Rejected alternatives: ਸ਼ਕਤੀ (for the ‘powers’ component)
Original: ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι, κοσμοκράτορες τοῦ σκότους τούτου, πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:12 (cf. 1:21; 3:10). Deliberately avoid ਸ਼ਕਤੀ, already forbidden for God’s power; applying it to evil forces would risk identifying a Hindu devotional power-concept with cosmic evil. Use ਤਾਕਤਾਂ throughout.
Devil
Approved rendering: ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ
Transliteration: shaitan
Doctrine: The Personal Reality of Spiritual Evil
Original: διάβολος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 2:2 (‘ruler of the authority of the air’); 4:27; 6:11. Established Punjabi Christian term shared with Islamic usage, but a real, personal, cosmic moral adversary has no clean parallel in monistic or karma-based frameworks; requires brief conceptual introduction, not vocabulary substitution alone.
Gave Himself Up
Approved rendering: ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਣਾ
Transliteration: apne aap nu de dena
Doctrine: Household Codes: Christ-Centered Marriage
Original: παραδίδωμι ἑαυτόν
Category: Christology
Ephesians 5:25. Atonement/self-sacrifice language central to correcting a one-sided reading of the household code.
Offering And Sacrifice
Approved rendering: ਭੇਟ ਅਤੇ ਬਲੀਦਾਨ
Transliteration: bhet ate balidaan
Doctrine: Household Codes: Christ-Centered Marriage
Original: προσφορὰ καὶ θυσία
Category: Christology
Ephesians 5:2. Atonement language; per the Romans baseline’s atonement/propitiation escalation rule, mandatory theologian review required. Must be clear this is a unique, once-for-all, sufficient sacrifice, not one offering among an ongoing ritual cycle.
Washing Of Water
Approved rendering: ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਣਾ
Transliteration: pani naal dhona
Doctrine: Sanctification and Holy Living
Original: λουτρὸν τοῦ ὕδατος
Category: Sanctification
Ephesians 5:26. Risks absorption into active ritual-purification frameworks in Punjab (Sikh Amrit ceremony; Hindu sacred bathing); must be framed as Christ’s own completed, word-anchored cleansing, not a repeatable ritual act by which the worshipper attains purification.
Old Self New Self
Approved rendering: ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ / ਨਵਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ
Transliteration: purana manukh / navaan manukh
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Rejected alternatives: ਪੁਨਰ-ਜਨਮ (as a framing device)
Original: παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος / καινός ἄνθρωπος
Category: Sanctification
Ephesians 4:22,24. MUST be sharply distinguished from ਪੁਨਰ-ਜਨਮ (reincarnation, already forbidden for ‘resurrection’ in the Romans baseline): a decisive, one-time transformation of the SAME PERSON within THIS PRESENT LIFE, not a metaphysical rebirth into a new body or existence.
Idolater
Approved rendering: ਮੂਰਤੀ-ਪੂਜਕ
Transliteration: murti-pujak
Doctrine: The Idolatry of Covetousness
Original: εἰδωλολάτρης
Category: Sanctification
Ephesians 5:5. Sikhism formally rejects idol worship, so this term could be misheard as a direct polemic against Hindu murti-puja specifically; Paul’s actual point is the abstract, universal claim that greed itself functions idolatrously — frame accordingly, not as inter-religious critique.
Children Of Light
Approved rendering: ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ
Transliteration: chanan de puttar
Doctrine: Believers’ Identity as Children of Light
Rejected alternatives: ਜੋਤ (as the underlying concept)
Original: τέκνα φωτός
Category: Sanctification
Ephesians 5:8. Distinguish from the Sikh ਜੋਤ doctrine of divine light transmitted sequentially through the Ten Gurus into the Guru Granth Sahib; a general biblical light/darkness moral metaphor tied to union with Christ, not an inherited transmitted light-essence.
Filled With The Spirit
Approved rendering: ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋਣਾ
Transliteration: Pavittar Atma naal bharpur hona
Doctrine: Filled with the Holy Spirit
Original: πληρόω ἐν Πνεύματι
Category: Sanctification
Ephesians 5:18. Must be the Spirit’s ongoing, empowering, PERSONAL indwelling control of a believer’s whole life and conduct, not an ecstatic trance state or altered consciousness that some Punjabi devotional/folk-religious practices associate with ‘spirit-filling’ language.
Forgiveness
Approved rendering: ਮਾਫ਼ੀ
Transliteration: maafi
Doctrine: Redemption through Christ’s Blood
Original: ἄφεσις
Category: Salvation
Ephesians 1:7. Per the Romans baseline’s note on justification, ਮਾਫ਼ੀ alone must never stand in for the fuller forensic ਧਰਮੀ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਜਾਣਾ; here ἄφεσις legitimately IS forgiveness, but teaching material should note the distinction between forgiveness (debt cancelled) and justification (positively declared righteous).

Doctrine: God’s Love and Mercy toward Believers
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: God
Ephesians 2:4; 3:19; 5:2,25,28,33. Generic ਪਿਆਰ covers romantic/emotional registers; theologically load-bearing occurrences must be anchored by context (God’s unmerited initiative; Christ’s self-giving) against a sentimental or bhakti-devotional default reading.
