Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — 1 Thessalonians (Full Book, Chapters 1–5)
This matrix is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (version 1, generated 2026-07-09): same 19 doctrines, same risk tiers, same review routing. It exists to show doctrine coverage chapter-by-chapter and section-by-section across the entire letter, so that no chapter is silently skipped even where a chapter’s contribution is confirmation-only (reused baseline terms, no new risk).
Core passage anchor: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 is the theological center of this curriculum (Return of Christ, Resurrection of Believers, Hope in Grief) but is not the boundary of analysis. All five chapters are reviewed below.
Chapter 1 (1:1–10) — Greeting, Thanksgiving, Election, and the Pattern of the Gospel’s Arrival
| Section | Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Notes | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | (No new doctrine) — greeting formula | 1 Thess 1:1 | Low | Reuses baseline благодать/мир exactly as the Pauline epistolary greeting; no new risk. Chapter opening explicitly reviewed. | Automated review |
| 1:2–3 | Thanksgiving, Joy, and Unceasing Prayer | 1 Thess 1:2–3 | Medium | Introduces надія (hope) as a named term for the first time in this letter, in the triad “work of faith, labor of love, steadfastness of hope.” Must not be rendered as generic optimism. | Native speaker review |
| 1:4 | Election and Effectual Calling | 1 Thess 1:4 | High | обрання must be distinguished from доля/фатум per baseline; God’s personal choice of the Thessalonian believers specifically. | Human theologian |
| 1:5–6 | Gospel Received in Power and the Holy Spirit | 1 Thess 1:5–6 | Medium | πληροφορία (full assurance) intersects baseline’s Critical Assurance of Salvation caution; imitators (μιμηταί) doctrine also active here (see Apostolic Ministry). | Native speaker review |
| 1:6 | Apostolic Ministry and Integrity | 1 Thess 1:6 | High | ”Imitators of us and of the Lord” — must be distinguished from the Orthodox/Greek Catholic tradition of imitating specifically canonized saints; here it is ordinary congregational imitation. | Human theologian |
| 1:6–7 | Suffering, Affliction, and Perseverance in Faith | 1 Thess 1:6 | High | Early occurrence of θλῖψις-adjacent language (“received the word in much affliction”); establishes the pattern extended in ch. 2–3. | Human theologian |
| 1:9–10 | Divine Wrath and Judgment | 1 Thess 1:10 | High | ”Wait for his Son from heaven… who delivers us from the wrath to come” — гнів Божий must read as ordered judicial justice, not capricious rage. | Human theologian |
| 1:10 | The Return of Christ (Parousia) | 1 Thess 1:10 | Critical | First occurrence in the letter of the return-of-Christ theme (“wait for his Son from heaven”), though the term παρουσία itself is not yet used. Establishes the doctrine’s trajectory through the whole letter. | Human theologian |
| 1:10 | Resurrection of Believers (Christological ground) | 1 Thess 1:10 | Critical | ”Whom he raised from the dead” — foundational to the doctrine developed fully in 4:14, 16; воскресіння-family vocabulary must be used consistently from this first occurrence onward. | Human theologian |
Chapter 1 summary: No terms are left unaddressed; every doctrine active in this chapter is already covered by the registry. No chapter-unique new risk beyond what is recorded above.
Chapter 2 (2:1–20) — Apostolic Integrity, Suffering, and Longing for the Parousia
| Section | Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Notes | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2:1–12 | Apostolic Ministry and Integrity | 1 Thess 2:1–12 | High | Paul’s defense of motive and restraint risks being read through the acutely live OCU/UOC/UGCC legitimacy question (baseline Critical “Church as God’s People”); keep Paul’s autobiographical pastoral argument distinct from that unrelated modern controversy. | Human theologian |
| 2:10 | Sanctification | 1 Thess 2:10 | Critical | First occurrence of ἀμέμπτως (“blamelessly, in holiness”)—render consistently with 3:13 and 5:23 (непорочно/безвинно) for thematic cohesion across the letter. | Human theologian |
| 2:12 | (Reused baseline terms) Kingdom of God, Glory, Called/Calling | 1 Thess 2:12 | High/Medium | Царство Боже and слава reused exactly per baseline; “walk worthy” (жити достойно Бога) must be grace-enabled response, not works-based merit, paralleling baseline’s obedience_of_faith caution. | Native speaker review |
| 2:13 | Thanksgiving, Joy, and Unceasing Prayer | 1 Thess 2:13 | Medium | ”Word of God… not as the word of men” touches the baseline’s Inspiration of Scripture fault line (Passed-down Tradition/Передання for Orthodox/Greek Catholic readers) without being a separate doctrine in this registry; flag as related context. | Native speaker review |
| 2:14–16 | Suffering, Affliction, and Perseverance in Faith | 1 Thess 2:14–15 | High | Cross-regional comparison to “the churches of God in Judea” — церква must remain jurisdiction-neutral per baseline; suffering retains its full historical/social range, not narrowed to combat suffering only. | Human theologian |
| 2:16 | Divine Wrath and Judgment | 1 Thess 2:16 | High | A historically sensitive verse (wrath “come upon them”) requiring care against any reading that channels ancient polemic into contemporary antisemitism, consistent with the baseline’s Unity of Jews and Gentiles caution (Babyn Yar). | Human theologian |
| 2:17–20 | Apostolic Ministry and Integrity | 1 Thess 2:18 | Medium | тempter/satan (сатана/спокусник) — established transliterated term, avoid folk-superstition framing. | Native speaker review |
| 2:19–20 | The Return of Christ (Parousia) | 1 Thess 2:19 | Critical | First explicit occurrence of παρουσία in the letter (“crown of boasting… at his coming”). Establish прихід (Господній) as the exposition rendering here, reserving парусія for a single technical gloss. | Human theologian |
Chapter 2 summary: Fully covered; the chapter’s principal new contribution is the first explicit παρουσία occurrence (2:19) and the first ἀμέμπτως occurrence (2:10), both already tracked under existing Critical doctrines.
Chapter 3 (3:1–13) — Timothy’s Report, Steadfast Faith, and Prayer for Holiness at the Parousia
| Section | Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Notes | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3:1–5 | Apostolic Ministry and Integrity | 1 Thess 3:1–5 | High | тempter/satan reappears; Paul’s anxious concern for the church’s perseverance under affliction. | Human theologian |
| 3:3–4, 7 | Suffering, Affliction, and Perseverance in Faith | 1 Thess 3:3–4, 3:7 | High | ”We are destined for this” (θλῖψις as the expected condition of faith) lands with unusual immediacy for a wartime readership; must not be narrowed to combat suffering alone nor suppressed as a resonance. | Human theologian |
| 3:6–10 | Thanksgiving, Joy, and Unceasing Prayer | 1 Thess 3:9 | Medium | Standard подяка usage; no elevated risk. | Native speaker review |
| 3:11–13 | The Return of Christ (Parousia) | 1 Thess 3:13 | Critical | ”At the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints” — ties parousia directly to the corporate, inclusive sense of святі (baseline High, “all believers not a venerated few”) at Christ’s return; a genuine interpretive question (are these “holy ones” angels, glorified believers, or both?) must be flagged, not silently resolved. | Human theologian |
| 3:13 | Sanctification | 1 Thess 3:13 | Critical | ”Establish your hearts blameless in holiness (ἁγιωσύνη) before our God and Father.” First occurrence of the state-word ἁγιωσύνη (святість), which must be kept lexically distinct from освячення (ἁγιασμός, the process-word) so Paul’s own distinction is not collapsed. | Human theologian |
| 3:12 | Brotherly Love and Congregational Life | 1 Thess 3:12 | Medium | любов “toward one another and toward all” — establishes the relational scope later specified as φιλαδελφία in 4:9–10. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 3 summary: Fully covered. The chapter’s key contribution is establishing ἁγιωσύνη (state) alongside ἁγιασμός (process) and tying parousia to the “with all his saints” formula, both Critical and requiring theologian review.
Chapter 4 (4:1–18) — Sanctification, Congregational Ethics, and the Core Passage on Resurrection and the Parousia
| Section | Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Notes | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4:1–2 | (General framing) Walk Worthy / Election and Effectual Calling | 1 Thess 4:1–2 | High | Introductory exhortation; закликати in its edification sense (per baseline note), not the comfort sense reserved for 4:18. | Native speaker review |
| 4:3–8 | Sanctification | 1 Thess 4:3, 4, 7 | Critical | Densest concentration of ἁγιασμός in either curriculum to date (3 of the letter’s 5 occurrences in this span alone). Must be anchored concretely to bodily/ethical conduct (sexual purity), not left abstract; must not collapse into the everyday ritual-blessing sense (свячення паски). | Human theologian |
| 4:3–8 | Sexual Purity as God’s Positive Will | 1 Thess 4:3–8 | High | σκεῦος (4:4) is a genuine source-text exegetical ambiguity (own body vs. own wife) — primary rendering своє тіло, with свою дружину explicitly flagged as a minority reading, never silently suppressed. Present purity as flowing from God’s positive will, not a bare prohibition. | Human theologian |
| 4:7 | Election and Effectual Calling | 1 Thess 4:7 | High | ”God has not called us to impurity but to holiness” — ties покликання directly to освячення; this cross-reference must be preserved in exposition. | Human theologian |
| 4:8 | (Reused baseline) Holy Spirit | 1 Thess 4:8 | Critical | Святий Дух given to believers — standard baseline rendering; no new risk beyond baseline’s existing caution. | Human theologian |
| 4:9–10 | Brotherly Love and Congregational Life | 1 Thess 4:9–10 | Medium | φιλαδελφία (братолюбство) resonates positively with wartime “брати по зброї” solidarity discourse — an asset, but must be distinguished as spiritual family-love, not equated with wartime comradeship. θεοδίδακτος (“taught by God”) must be framed as compatible with, not bypassing, the church’s teaching role for Orthodox/Greek Catholic readers. | Native speaker review |
| 4:11–12 | The Quiet, Orderly, Self-Supporting Life | 1 Thess 4:11–12 | Medium | Must not be taught as an implicit rebuke to displaced persons or war-affected readers unable to maintain settled work or life through no fault of their own. | Native speaker review |
| 4:13–18 | Hope in Grief | 1 Thess 4:13, 18 | Critical | Core-passage doctrine. Надія must be anchored explicitly to Christ’s death/resurrection and future coming, distinct from — though not dismissive of — the intense wartime register in which надія circulates. Grief (сумувати/журитися) must be taught as qualified, not forbidden. | Human theologian |
| 4:13–15 | Resurrection of Believers | 1 Thess 4:14, 16 | Critical | Core-passage doctrine, elevated to Critical within this curriculum. Заснулі (κοιμᾶσθαι euphemism) must be preserved with first-use glossing, distinct from plain померлі, without teaching soul-sleep. Воскресіння-family vocabulary must render 4:14 and 4:16 identically per cross-document consistency rule. | Human theologian |
| 4:15–17 | The Return of Christ (Parousia) | 1 Thess 4:15–17 | Critical | Densest Господь concentration in the letter; κέλευσμα (“cry of command”), archangel’s voice, and trumpet imagery must retain civic-royal arrival force without importing date-setting speculation. | Human theologian |
| 4:17 | Being Caught Up to Meet the Lord (Rapture) | 1 Thess 4:17 | Critical | Highest-risk lexical choice in the core passage. NEVER use восхищення (false-friend drift to “admiration/delight”); use піднесені (підхоплені). Do not import the full popular dispensational “Rapture” framework as though self-evidently Paul’s own scheme. | Human theologian |
| 4:18 | Hope in Grief (pastoral application) | 1 Thess 4:18 | Critical | закликати here requires the comfort/console sense (утішайте), not the edification sense used elsewhere in the letter — must not be flattened into generic exhortation. | Human theologian |
Chapter 4 summary: This chapter contains the letter’s single highest concentration of Critical-risk doctrine, anchored in the mandated core passage 4:13–18. Every doctrine active here is already tracked in the registry; no gaps.
Chapter 5 (5:1–28) — The Day of the Lord, Watchfulness, Congregational Order, and Closing Benediction
| Section | Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Notes | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5:1–3 | The Day of the Lord | 1 Thess 5:1–3 | Critical | день Господній is a homograph with the ordinary ecclesial designation of Sunday; must be disambiguated as the singular future eschatological Day. Мир та безпека (5:3) directly invokes Ukraine’s live wartime peace/security discourse — Paul’s target is complacent unpreparedness dressed in political self-assurance, never a claim that legitimate hope for peace is itself spiritually suspect. This distinction must be explicit before translation or teaching proceeds. | Human theologian |
| 5:2 | The Day of the Lord | 1 Thess 5:2 | Critical | Злодій уночі (“thief in the night”) risks being heard as literal commentary on wartime night missile/drone attacks rather than Paul’s eschatological metaphor; must be explicitly redirected in exposition. | Human theologian |
| 5:3 | The Day of the Lord | 1 Thess 5:3 | Critical | Родові болі (birth pains) — universal, low-collision imagery; retained under the same doctrine unit for its proximity to 5:1–3. | Human theologian |
| 5:4–8 | The Day of the Lord / sons of light | 1 Thess 5:4–8 | Medium/High | Сини світла/сини дня — standard moral-relational dualism, not Gnostic ontological dualism; нагрудник (панцир) віри й любові, шолом надії спасіння carries strong wartime pastoral resonance (servicemembers, veterans) that must not be flattened into literal endorsement of, or casual comparison with, actual combat. | Human theologian (Day of the Lord unit) / Native speaker (armor imagery) |
| 5:9 | Divine Wrath and Judgment | 1 Thess 5:9 | High | Salvation vs. wrath as two final destinies; must read as universal final judgment applicable to every person including the reader, not validation of either side in a contemporary conflict. | Human theologian |
| 5:12–15 | Congregational Leadership and Mutual Care | 1 Thess 5:12–14 | High | προΐστημι (“those who labor among and lead you”) touches the same acutely live church-jurisdiction/authority sensitivity already Critical/High in the baseline; frame strictly as local congregational care, never as commentary on OCU/UOC/UGCC structures. | Human theologian |
| 5:16–18 | Thanksgiving, Joy, and Unceasing Prayer | 1 Thess 5:16–18 | Medium | ”In everything give thanks” (not “for everything”) carries real pastoral risk if rendered to imply thanksgiving for suffering, war, or loss itself, rather than a posture of gratitude maintained within every circumstance. | Native speaker review |
| 5:19–21 | Spirit-Filled Discernment and Prophecy in the Congregation | 1 Thess 5:19–21 | Critical | Bare πνεῦμα (5:19, unqualified by ἅγιον) is the same structural Critical risk already flagged in the Galatians extension; capitalize Дух with mandatory first-occurrence glossing, never leave as lowercase “дух” given wartime idioms like “бойовий дух.” “Test all things” (5:21) must be kept distinct from testing a fortune-teller’s/psychic’s claims. | Human theologian |
| 5:23 | Sanctification | 1 Thess 5:23 | Critical | ”Дух, душа, і тіло” (whole-person completeness) — present the plain pastoral sense without committing to either side of the trichotomist/dichotomist debate; τὸ σῶμα here is the neutral body-term, distinct from the Critical ethical σάρξ/тіло risk flagged in Galatians. | Human theologian |
| 5:23 | The Return of Christ (Parousia) | 1 Thess 5:23 | Critical | Final occurrence of the parousia theme, closing the letter’s inclusio begun at 1:10; render with the same прихід (Господній) consistency established throughout. | Human theologian |
| 5:23–24 | Assurance of God’s Faithfulness in Calling | 1 Thess 5:23–24 | Medium | ”He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it” ties to the baseline’s Critical Assurance of Salvation caution; hold Paul’s confidence alongside Orthodox/Greek Catholic caution about assurance before final judgment without flattening either. | Native speaker review |
| 5:25–27 | (No new doctrine) — request for prayer, reading aloud | 1 Thess 5:25, 27 | Low | Standard closing convention; no elevated risk. Section explicitly reviewed. | Automated review |
| 5:26 | Christian Greeting Customs (the Holy Kiss) | 1 Thess 5:26 | Low | Святий поцілунок — likely a cultural asset given Orthodox/Greek Catholic ritual-kiss familiarity (e.g. Easter greeting); clarify as a general era-appropriate custom, not a specific liturgical rite prescribed today. | Automated review |
| 5:28 | (Reused baseline) Grace | 1 Thess 5:28 | Critical | Closing благодать formula — reused exactly per baseline; no new risk beyond baseline’s existing Critical grace caution. | Human theologian (per baseline escalation rule) |
Chapter 5 summary: Fully covered, including the letter’s second-highest Critical-risk concentration (5:1–3, the Day of the Lord/peace-and-security unit) and the letter’s closing Critical sanctification and parousia occurrences (5:23).

Critical Risk Doctrines
Sanctification
Ukrainian name: освячення
Key terms: sanctification, holiness_state, sexual_immorality, blameless_in_holiness, whole_person_complete
Review routing: Human theologian
This letter contains the densest concentration of ἁγιασμός in either curriculum to date — five occurrences within one short letter. Reinforces, and sharpens, the baseline’s Critical caution that освячення risks collapsing into the everyday sense of ritual object-blessing (свячення паски); here it must additionally be anchored concretely to bodily/ethical conduct (sexual purity, 4:3-5), not left as an abstract spiritual state. The related but lexically distinct state-word ἁγιωσύνη (святість) must be kept separate from the process-word ἁγιασμός (освячення) so Paul’s own distinction survives translation.
The Return of Christ (Parousia)
Ukrainian name: прихід Христа (парусія)
Key terms: parousia_return_of_christ, lord
Review routing: Human theologian
Central curriculum doctrine. παρουσία carries a civic-royal ‘arrival of a sovereign’ overtone Paul’s readers would have recognized; render прихід (Господній) in exposition per the Ohienko tradition, reserving the transliterated парусія for a one-time technical gloss only. Unlike Critical Romans/Galatians terms, this doctrine has no live sectarian jurisdiction collision, but it does intersect popular apocalyptic date-setting speculation intensified by wartime uncertainty — precisely what Paul’s own argument in 5:1-3 opposes — and this must be explicitly fenced off in exposition.
Resurrection of Believers
Ukrainian name: воскресіння віруючих
Key terms: resurrection, asleep_in_death
Review routing: Human theologian
Elevated to Critical within this curriculum specifically because it is one of five named core doctrines, though the baseline treats resurrection as a Medium supporting theme. κοιμᾶσθαι’s euphemism (заснулі) must be preserved with first-use glossing, distinct from plain померлі, without teaching soul-sleep as a doctrine in itself. ἀνέστη (4:14) and ἀναστήσονται (4:16) must render identically with воскресіння-family vocabulary, per the AI requirements document’s cross-document consistency rule for high-use pastoral verses.
Being Caught Up to Meet the Lord
Ukrainian name: піднесення назустріч Господу
Key terms: caught_up_rapture
Review routing: Human theologian
ἁρπάζω is the single highest-risk lexical choice in the core passage. The historically exact Ukrainian calque восхищення has drifted in modern usage almost entirely to mean ‘admiration, delight, being thrilled’ — a false-friend collision fully analogous to гріх’s drift toward ‘atrocity’ and погани’s drift toward ‘wicked people’ already flagged in the baseline; use піднесені (підхоплені) instead. Additionally, this doctrine (the popular ‘rapture,’ especially its timing relative to any tribulation period) is a distinctly Protestant/dispensational systematic category with no developed parallel in Orthodox or Greek Catholic eschatology, which affirms Christ’s return and general resurrection without that specific apparatus; exposition must present Paul’s plain words without importing the full modern popular framework as though self-evidently his own scheme.
Hope in Grief
Ukrainian name: надія у скорботі
Key terms: hope, grief_grieve
Review routing: Human theologian
Надія must be anchored explicitly to Christ’s resurrection and promised return as its object (4:14-17), distinct from — though not dismissive of — the intense, immediate wartime register in which надія circulates in ordinary Ukrainian usage (hope for surviving soldiers, hope for peace). λυπῆσθε must be taught as qualified, not forbidden, grief, guarding against a pastorally dangerous over-correction into stoic non-grief given the current context of mass wartime bereavement and displacement across Ukraine.
The Day of the Lord
Ukrainian name: день Господній
Key terms: day_of_the_lord, peace_and_security, thief_in_the_night, wrath, birth_pains
Review routing: Human theologian
Two compounding Ukraine-specific risks converge in this single unit. (1) день Господній is a homograph with the ordinary ecclesial designation of Sunday as ‘the Lord’s day’ in some Ukrainian usage and must be disambiguated as the singular, future, eschatological Day. (2) мир та безпека (5:3) directly invokes Ukraine’s live, urgent, daily wartime political discourse on ceasefire negotiations and security guarantees — Paul’s target is complacent unpreparedness for divine judgment dressed in political self-assurance, not a claim that Ukraine’s legitimate, justly-sought hope for peace is itself spiritually suspect; this distinction must be explicit before this section is translated or taught. Additionally, злодій уночі (5:2) risks being heard as literal commentary on wartime missile/drone night attacks rather than Paul’s intended eschatological metaphor.
Spirit-Filled Discernment and Prophecy in the Congregation
Ukrainian name: духовне розпізнавання і пророцтво в громаді
Key terms: quench_the_spirit, examine_all_things, prophecy
Review routing: Human theologian
5:19’s bare πνεῦμα (unqualified by ἅγιον) is the same structural risk already Critical in the Galatians extension’s spirit_bare_pneuma entry — must render as capitalized Дух with mandatory first-occurrence glossing as the Holy Spirit, never left as lowercase ‘дух’ given wartime idioms like ‘бойовий дух.’ The paired instruction to ‘test all things’ (5:21) must be kept distinct from the wholly different cultural category of testing a fortune-teller’s or psychic’s claims, a persistent post-Soviet folk-psychic category already flagged under the baseline’s spiritual_gifts caution.
High Risk Doctrines
Election and Effectual Calling
Ukrainian name: обрання і дієве покликання
Key terms: election, called, calling
Review routing: Human theologian
Extends the baseline’s High-risk election/effectual-calling caution: God’s personal, relational choice must be distinguished from доля/фатум, a strong current in Ukrainian folk fatalism intensified by wartime discourse about survival and chance. New nuance specific to this letter: 4:7 explicitly ties calling to holiness (‘not to impurity but to holiness’), a connection that must be preserved in cross-referencing with the sanctification doctrine below.
Apostolic Ministry and Integrity
Ukrainian name: апостольське служіння і чесність
Key terms: apostle, imitators, tempter_satan
Review routing: Human theologian
Paul’s defense of his team’s motives and restraint in exercising apostolic authority risks being reflexively filtered through the acutely live, contemporary OCU/UOC/UGCC jurisdiction-and-legitimacy question already Critical in the baseline’s ‘Church as God’s People’ doctrine. Translators must keep Paul’s autobiographical, pastoral-integrity argument distinct from that unrelated modern controversy while remaining alert to the reflex, exactly as the baseline’s Galatians extension already instructs for ‘Paul’s Apostleship.‘
Suffering, Affliction, and Perseverance in Faith
Ukrainian name: страждання, скорбота і стійкість у вірі
Key terms: affliction_tribulation, faith
Review routing: Human theologian
θλῖψις/скорбота lands with unusual immediacy for a wartime Ukrainian readership already living through displacement, loss, and hardship. Must retain the term’s full range (social exclusion, persecution, general hardship) rather than narrowing it exclusively to combat/military suffering, while not suppressing the legitimate resonance with readers’ present situation — the same double-edged caution the baseline documents for гріх and Царство Боже.
Sexual Purity as God’s Positive Will
Ukrainian name: статева чистота як воля Божа
Key terms: sexual_immorality, vessel_body_disputed
Review routing: Human theologian
σκεῦος (4:4) is a genuine source-text exegetical ambiguity (own body vs. own wife), not merely a translation-choice problem; the primary rendering своє тіло is recommended with the minority reading свою дружину explicitly flagged rather than silently suppressed. Additionally, abstaining from πορνεία must be presented as flowing from ἁγιασμός as God’s positive will, not a bare moralizing prohibition, consistent with this curriculum’s required pastoral tone.
Divine Wrath and Judgment
Ukrainian name: гнів Божий і суд
Key terms: wrath, salvation
Review routing: Human theologian
Гнів (Божий) must read as ordered judicial justice, not capricious rage or an impersonal cosmic force. Given intense current wartime moral discourse distinguishing a just defender from an unjust aggressor, care is needed (parallel to the baseline’s existing caution on гріх) that ‘God’s wrath’ is not read as automatically validating the reader’s own side in the conflict; the referent is universal final judgment on unrepentant sin, applicable to every person including the reader.
Congregational Leadership and Mutual Care
Ukrainian name: керівництво громади і взаємна турбота
Key terms: congregational_leaders
Review routing: Human theologian
προΐστημι/‘those who labor among and lead you’ touches the same acutely live church-jurisdiction and authority sensitivity already Critical in the baseline’s ‘Church as God’s People’ doctrine and High in the baseline’s Romans 13 government-authority caution. Must be framed strictly as local congregational care-leadership (paralleling the baseline’s own громада-style jurisdiction-neutral recommendation for церква), never as commentary on OCU/UOC/UGCC denominational authority structures.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Gospel Received in Power and the Holy Spirit
Ukrainian name: прийняття Євангелія в силі та Святому Дусі
Key terms: gospel, holy_spirit, full_assurance
Review routing: Native speaker review
Євангеліє’s devotional weight amid the current religious revival is an asset here, as in the baseline. The new term πληροφορία (‘full assurance’) intersects the baseline’s Critical ‘Assurance of Salvation’ caution: Orthodox and Greek Catholic theological hesitance to claim full assurance before final judgment must be held alongside this verse’s confident language without either flattening it or overstating it.
Brotherly Love and Congregational Life
Ukrainian name: братолюбство і життя громади
Key terms: brotherly_love, taught_by_god, love
Review routing: Native speaker review
Братолюбство resonates positively with Ukraine’s wartime ‘брати по зброї’ solidarity discourse (an asset), but must be distinguished as spiritual family-love rather than equated with wartime comradeship. θεοδίδακτος (‘taught by God’) must be framed as compatible with, not bypassing, the church’s teaching role/Holy Tradition (Передання) for Orthodox and Greek Catholic readers, per the same fault line the baseline flags for ‘Inspiration of Scripture.‘
The Quiet, Orderly, Self-Supporting Life
Ukrainian name: тихе і впорядковане життя
Key terms: quiet_life_manual_work, walk_worthy
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must not be taught as an implicit rebuke to the many displaced persons, refugees, and war-affected readers unable to maintain settled work or life through no fault of their own — a pastoral sensitivity with no precedent need in the peacetime context this instruction originally addressed.
Thanksgiving, Joy, and Unceasing Prayer
Ukrainian name: подяка, радість і невпинна молитва
Key terms: thanksgiving
Review routing: Native speaker review
Standard vocabulary across all Ukrainian Christian traditions, but 5:18’s ‘in everything give thanks’ (not ‘for everything’) carries real pastoral risk if rendered so as to imply thanksgiving for suffering, war, or loss itself, rather than a posture of gratitude maintained within every circumstance — a nuance directly relevant to the Hope in Grief doctrine above.
Assurance of God’s Faithfulness in Calling
Ukrainian name: впевненість у вірності Бога, Який покликав

‘He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it’ (5:24) ties directly to the baseline’s Critical ‘Assurance of Salvation’ caution — Orthodox and Greek Catholic theological caution about claiming assurance before final judgment must be held alongside this verse’s confident promise without either flattening Paul’s confidence or overstating assurance in a way alien to two of the three living Ukrainian traditions.

Christian Greeting Customs (the Holy Kiss)
Ukrainian name: християнське вітання (святий поцілунок)
Key terms: holy_kiss
Review routing: Automated review
A standard, era-appropriate congregational greeting custom; likely a cultural asset given Orthodox and Greek Catholic ritual-kiss familiarity (e.g. the Easter greeting). Minor risk only, limited to clarifying this is a general custom, not a specific liturgical rite prescribed for today.
