Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Colossians (Destination: Ukrainian)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from all four chapters of Colossians. Terms marked [TM REUSE] are already fixed in the baseline translation_memory.json (Romans/Galatians) and MUST be rendered exactly as recorded there; no alternative is proposed. Terms marked [NEW] are proposed additions for this curriculum’s own translation memory and term registry, with a recommended risk tier consistent with the baseline’s Critical/High/Medium/Low framework. Risk tiers determine Phase 2 review routing per the baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json conventions (Critical/High → human theologian review; Medium → native speaker review; Low → automated review).
Legend
- Status: [TM REUSE] = already fixed in baseline; [NEW] = proposed new entry
- Risk: Critical / High / Medium / Low
- Doctrine: maps to the curriculum’s eight designated doctrines plus inherited baseline doctrines where relevant
Chapter 1 Terms
| # | Greek | Translit. | Ukrainian Rendering | Status | Risk | Doctrine | Key Risk Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | εἰκών | eikōn | образ | NEW | Critical | Supremacy of Christ / Fullness of Deity | Collides with образ/ікона devotional resonance; must distinguish Christ’s unique identity as the Image from humanity’s derivative image-bearing. |
| 2 | ἀόρατος | aoratos | невидимий | NEW | Low | Supremacy of Christ | Standard; no ambiguity. |
| 3 | πρωτότοκος (πάσης κτίσεως / ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν) | prōtotokos | Первородний | NEW | Critical | Supremacy of Christ / Resurrection | Risk of misreading as “first created being” (JW-adjacent controversy); must be taught as rank/inheritance-priority, not chronological order. |

| 8 | κεφαλή | kephalē | голова | NEW | Critical | Christ as Head of the Church / Household Codes | Doctrinally central; contested in contemporary gender-role discourse; two distinct senses (ecclesial, ch.1; household, ch.3) must not be conflated. |
| 9 | σῶμα (church-body sense) | sōma | тіло | NEW | High | Christ as Head of the Church | Must be disambiguated from σάρξ (ethical “flesh,” Critical in Galatians baseline) and from later senses (substance-vs-shadow, 2:17; literal body, 2:23). |

Notes for Phase 1 Step 2 and Beyond
- Highest-stakes new terms requiring mandatory theologian review: εἰκών, πρωτότοκος, πλήρωμα, θεότης, σωματικῶς, ἀποκαταλλάσσω, μυστήριον (vs. таїнство), παράδοσις τῶν ἀνθρώπων (vs. Передання), θρησκεία τῶν ἀγγέλων, ὑστέρημα τῶν θλίψεων τοῦ Χριστοῦ, παλαιὸς/νέος ἄνθρωπος, ὑποτάσσω, δοῦλοι/κύριοι.
- Structural/homograph risks requiring first-occurrence disambiguation: σῶμα (church-body / substance-vs-shadow / literal body — three senses in this book alone, compounding the already-Critical σάρξ/σῶμα homograph flagged in the Galatians baseline); ἀρχή (beginning/origin vs. ἀρχαί, rulers); δόγμα (ordinance vs. modern “dogma”).
- Unique Ukrainian cultural collision points not previously encountered in the Romans/Galatians baseline: εἰκών↔ікона/образ; μυστήριον↔таїнство; παράδοσις↔Передання; ἀχειροποίητος↔Нерукотворний Образ; θρησκεία τῶν ἀγγέλων↔angel/saint veneration; δοῦλος/κύριος↔serfdom/forced-labor/current POW-deportation memory; συναιχμάλωτος and δεσμά↔current Ukrainian POW reality.
- All terms in this glossary should be carried into an updated
translation_memory.jsonandbible_term_registry.jsonin the subsequent Phase 1 step, with risk tiers feeding the doctrine risk registry update.
Critical Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: благодать
Transliteration: blahodat’
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: милість, талан, щастя
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Opens (1:2) and closes (4:18) Colossians in the standard Pauline greeting/benediction formula; the baseline’s three-tradition grace caution applies unchanged.
Justification
Approved rendering: виправдання
Transliteration: vypravdannya
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: прощення гріхів, оправдання (Russian-influenced spelling, avoid)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians introduces a distinct relational atonement facet (примирення, reconciliation) that must be explicitly distinguished from виправдання, never absorbed into or equated with it, per 1:20-22 and 04_comparative_theology.md Doctrine 4.
Salvation
Approved rendering: спасіння
Transliteration: spasinnya
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: визволення, рятування (too generic, ‘rescue’)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians layers at least four distinct atonement images (redemption/відкуплення, forgiveness/прощення, reconciliation/примирення, and the certificate-of-debt/рукописання image) beneath this single umbrella term; each must be taught as a distinct facet, not flattened into спасіння alone.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: освячення
Transliteration: osvyachennya
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: обоження (reserve for explicit theosis discussion only), очищення
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians’ own distinct vocabulary for moral transformation (old self/new self, 3:5-17) complements rather than replaces this term; the baseline’s caution against collapsing освячення into the everyday ritual-blessing sense applies unchanged.
Church
Approved rendering: церква
Transliteration: tserkva
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: храм, громада (acceptable for local congregation emphasis)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:18, 1:24 (church as Christ’s body) and 4:15-16 (house-church) both invoke this Critical, jurisdiction-neutral term at full baseline strength; the 4:15 house-church reference carries added current resonance given informal, displaced-context wartime gatherings.
Flesh
Approved rendering: тіло
Transliteration: tilo
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Rejected alternatives: плоть (acceptable only in more elevated/poetic register contexts, not as the default expository term)
Inherited from Galatians package, exact. Colossians compounds this already-Critical homograph risk severely: тіло must now carry FOUR distinct senses within one short letter — church-body (1:18, 24), literal physical body (2:11, 23), ‘substance/reality’ vs shadow (2:17), and the inherited ethical ‘flesh’ sense (2:11’s ‘body of the flesh,’ 2:18’s ‘mind of the flesh’). Mandatory first-occurrence disambiguation gloss required at every distinct sense in this book; see body_of_christ_church and shadow_and_substance below.
Spirit Bare Pneuma
Approved rendering: Дух
Transliteration: Dukh
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Rejected alternatives: дух (never use lowercase/unqualified for the Holy Spirit)
Inherited from Galatians package, exact. Colossians 1:8 (‘love in the Spirit’) is a bare πνεῦμα occurrence requiring the same mandatory capitalization and first-occurrence gloss as the Galatians baseline rule; see holy_spirit_bare below for the book-specific entry.
Image Of God
Approved rendering: образ
Transliteration: eikōn
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Rejected alternatives: ікона (never as a substitute referent for Christ’s own identity), подібність (too weak; loses the ontological-disclosure sense)
NEW. Colossians 1:15. Christ is the exact, visible representation of the invisible God, not a resemblance but the ontological disclosure of His nature. Ukrainian образ is also the everyday word for a devotional icon (ікона); Genesis 1:26’s ‘образ Божий’ is widely known culturally — a genuine teaching asset but a real risk. Must distinguish humanity’s derivative, creaturely image-bearing (reasserted at Colossians 3:10, being_renewed) from Christ’s unique, absolute, uncreated identity as the Image itself. Never present as ‘Christ is an icon of God’ in the devotional-object sense. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Firstborn
Approved rendering: Первородний
Transliteration: prōtotokos
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Rejected alternatives: перший створений (never use — states the exact Jehovah’s Witness misreading as fact)
NEW. Colossians 1:15 (‘firstborn of all creation’) and 1:18 (‘firstborn from the dead’). Hebraic idiom of rank/inheritance-priority, NOT chronological first-in-a-series. Same risk class as the globally documented Jehovah’s Witness reading of Christ as a created being — a live concern given active JW presence in Ukraine. Must be explicitly taught with the rank/inheritance sense every single occurrence. Mandatory human theologian review.
Head
Approved rendering: голова
Transliteration: kephalē
Doctrine: Christ as Head of the Church
NEW. Colossians 1:18, 2:10 (ecclesial/cosmic sense) versus 3:18ff (household-relational sense, reused). One Ukrainian word must carry two distinct Pauline senses within this one letter. Contemporary gender-role discourse (secular and intra-Christian) is acutely live, sharpened by wartime household disruption. Treat as two glossary sub-applications sharing голова: ecclesial (Christ’s unique relationship to the whole church) and household (see wives_submit below) — never let one sense import connotations from the other. Mandatory human theologian review, both senses.
Fullness Of Deity
Approved rendering: повнота
Transliteration: plērōma
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
NEW. Colossians 1:19, 2:9-10. Must be explicitly taught against any reading (ancient proto-Gnostic or modern) that distributes divine fullness among Christ and other spiritual mediators, and against collapsing it into Orthodox/Greek Catholic theosis (обоження) categories without clarifying this names Christ’s own unique, complete deity — not the believer’s participatory transformation (a related but distinct doctrine at 3:10, being_renewed). Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: примирити / примирення
Transliteration: apokatallassō
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Rejected alternatives: виправдання (never use as a substitute — distinct forensic category)
NEW to this curriculum’s translation memory (the concept underlies Romans 5:10-11 but the baseline never fixed a term for it). Colossians 1:20-22. Must be explicitly distinguished from виправдання (forensic justification, Critical baseline entry) as a distinct, relational atonement facet; cosmic scope (‘all things,’ 1:20) must not be taught as equivalent to universal individual salvation — hold together with the personal-response requirement of 1:21-23. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Making Peace By The Cross
Approved rendering: встановивши мир
Transliteration: eirēnopoieō
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Rejected alternatives: примиривши (acceptable near-synonym in exposition only)
NEW compound built on the baseline’s Critical мир root. Colossians 1:20. Names peace achieved specifically through Christ’s blood and cross at cosmic scale; must be kept unmistakably distinct from any ceasefire/political-peace referent given мир’s exceptionally heavy current wartime political weight. Mandatory human theologian review, consistent with the baseline’s peace_with_god routing.
Apostolic Afflictions
Approved rendering: скорботи; недостача
Transliteration: thlipsis, hysterēma
Doctrine: Apostolic Suffering and the Sufficiency of Christ’s Atonement
NEW. Colossians 1:24 (‘I fill up in my flesh what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions’). No single Ukrainian idiom compresses this paradox; must be rendered as an expanded compound and explicitly taught as Paul’s own ongoing, appointed quota of apostolic/missionary tribulation, NEVER as any deficiency in Christ’s own atoning sufficiency (already established complete at 1:19-20, 2:9-15). Directly intersects Catholic redemptive-suffering doctrine and Orthodox/Greek Catholic suffering-with-Christ theology, already flagged Critical for Galatians 2:20 in the baseline. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Mystery
Approved rendering: таємниця
Transliteration: mystērion
Doctrine: The Mystery of the Gospel Now Revealed
Rejected alternatives: таїнство (NEVER use — this is the standing Ukrainian Orthodox/Greek Catholic term for the sacraments and names a completely different theological category)
NEW. Colossians 1:26-27, 2:2, 4:3. God’s previously hidden but now publicly disclosed redemptive plan, centered on ‘Christ in you’ among the nations. Using таїнство would import sacramental theology in place of Paul’s actual sense. This is the single sharpest false-friend risk in this book. Add to Forbidden Substitutions list. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Human Tradition
Approved rendering: людські передання
Transliteration: paradosis tōn anthrōpōn
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
Rejected alternatives: Передання (never use unqualified as a substitute — this is the Orthodox/Greek Catholic Holy Tradition category)
NEW. Colossians 2:8. Directly intersects Передання (Holy Tradition), a load-bearing authority category in Orthodox and Greek Catholic theology (already flagged by the baseline’s inspiration_of_scripture doctrine). Must be explicitly scoped to Paul’s specific target — the Colossian syncretistic error (speculative philosophy, ascetic ritual, angel-mediation) — never to tradition as a category or to any specific Ukrainian ecclesial body’s own doctrine of Tradition. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Deity Godhead
Approved rendering: Божество
Transliteration: theotēs
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
NEW. Colossians 2:9. The strongest single NT statement of Christ’s full deity. Must be distinguished from θειότης (Romans 1:20’s perceivable divine attributes visible in creation, general revelation) — a distinct term with no Ukrainian TM entry yet fixed; flagged as a forward dependency for any future curriculum treating both passages together. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Bodily Indwelling
Approved rendering: тілесно
Transliteration: sōmatikōs
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
NEW. Colossians 2:9. The letter’s key anti-docetic term: real, permanent, present-tense bodily indwelling of deity in the risen Christ, not apparent or temporary. Reinforces втілення and leverages icon theology’s positive body-doctrine as a genuine asset here. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Worship Of Angels
Approved rendering: поклоніння ангелам
Transliteration: thrēskeia tōn angelōn
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
Rejected alternatives: шанування (NEVER use as a substitute — this names the Orthodox/Greek Catholic doctrinally sanctioned veneration category, distinct from worship due to God alone)
NEW. Colossians 2:18. A syncretistic angel-mediator cult at Colossae, displacing Christ’s unique sufficiency as sole mediator. Requires extreme care: Orthodox and Greek Catholic tradition maintains a theologically distinct, doctrinally sanctioned practice of honoring/venerating (шанування) angels and saints, carefully distinguished by those traditions themselves from worship (λατρεία) due to God alone. Exposition must distinguish ‘worship’ (rejected here) from ‘honor/veneration’ without adjudicating the wider ecumenical debate within the translated text itself. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Old Self New Self
Approved rendering: ветха/стара людина; нова людина
Transliteration: palaios anthrōpos / neos (kainos) anthrōpos
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:9-10. Register-split rendering recommended, parallel to the baseline’s свобода/воля convention: ветха людина for Scripture-citation register (echoing ‘Ветхий Завіт’), стара людина for expository/teaching text; нова людина serves both registers. Must balance the definitive, already-accomplished aorist (‘having put off/on’) with the present-tense ongoing renewal (see being_renewed) without collapsing either dimension. Mandatory human theologian review.
Unity Formula Colossians
Approved rendering: немає ані грека, ані юдея, ані обрізання, ані необрізання, ані варвара, ані скіфа, ані раба, ані вільного
Transliteration: ouk eni Hellēn kai Ioudaios… barbaros, Skythēs, doulos, eleutheros
Doctrine: Unity in Christ across Ethnic, Ritual, and Social Distinctions
NEW. Colossians 3:11. Colossians’ own variant of the baseline’s neither_jew_nor_greek formula. Must retain full, unqualified universalizing force. Σκύθης historically inhabited the Pontic steppe now within modern Ukraine’s territory — a striking, positive pastoral-contact point to surface in teaching material only, never in the translation itself, and never as commentary on any modern ethnic, national, or geopolitical category. Mandatory human theologian review.
Wives Submit
Approved rendering: підкорятися
Transliteration: hypotassō
Doctrine: Household Codes
NEW. Colossians 3:18. Qualified explicitly by ‘as is fitting in the Lord,’ immediately paired with the husband’s command to love and not be harsh (3:19). Contested in contemporary gender-role discourse generally, and acutely so given Ukraine’s current wartime social context of mass male conscription and displacement disrupting traditional household patterns. Never render or teach without the qualifying clause and paired love-command. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Slaves And Masters
Approved rendering: раби, господарі
Transliteration: douloi, kyrioi
Doctrine: Household Codes
Rejected alternatives: слуги (never use as a softening substitute — falsifies the text’s actual referent, chattel slavery)
NEW. Colossians 3:22-4:1. Consistency with the baseline’s existing ярмо рабства (Galatians) favors раби/господарі over a softening ‘слуги.’ The single most historically and currently loaded term in this curriculum: intersects serfdom (кріпацтво, abolished 1861), Nazi-era Ostarbeiter forced labor, Soviet Gulag/collectivization, and credible current reports of forced deportation, forced labor, and ‘re-education’ of Ukrainian civilians and children under Russian occupation since 2022. Exposition must distinguish the historical Greco-Roman institution Paul addresses from these associations without minimizing either, and must highlight Paul addresses slaves as full moral agents and holds masters accountable to a heavenly Master. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Holy Spirit Bare
Approved rendering: Дух
Transliteration: pneuma (bare)
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: дух (never use lowercase/unqualified)
NEW book-specific entry extending the Galatians baseline rule. Colossians 1:8 (‘love in the Spirit’). Must be capitalized (Дух) and glossed as the Holy Spirit on first occurrence; never left as lowercase generic ‘spirit/mood,’ given secular idioms like бойовий дух prominent in current wartime usage.
Grace And Peace
Approved rendering: благодать, мир
Transliteration: charis, eirēnē
Doctrine: Grace / Peace with God
NEW compound entry, reusing baseline grace and peace exactly. Colossians 1:2 (greeting) and 4:18 (closing benediction).
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: Євангеліє
Transliteration: Yevanheliye
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: добра звістка (acceptable as an explanatory gloss only)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Recurs in Colossians 1:5-6, 1:23, 4:3 tied to worldwide gospel fruit and the mystery of Christ; no new Ukrainian-specific risk beyond the baseline’s established devotional-weight note.
Faith
Approved rendering: віра
Transliteration: vira
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: довіра, переконання
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Paired with love as the Colossians’ reputation (1:4) and the goal of instruction (2:5, 2:7).
Righteousness
Approved rendering: праведність
Transliteration: pravednist’
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: справедливість, чесність
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Not directly foregrounded in Colossians’ own vocabulary but underlies the reconciliation/justification distinction taught explicitly for 1:20-22; справедливість remains rejected here as a false friend EXCEPT in the unrelated social-ethics sense at 4:1 (see dikaion_kai_ten_isoteta below, where справедливість is the correct choice in that different context).
Saints
Approved rendering: святі
Transliteration: svyati
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: праведники
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:2 (‘holy and faithful brothers’) and 1:12, 1:26, 3:12 repeat the baseline’s corporate-inclusivity caution: святі names the whole congregation, never a venerated canonized minority.
Lord
Approved rendering: Господь
Transliteration: Hospod’
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: хазяїн, владика (reserve for liturgical/poetic register only)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Underlies the household code’s repeated ‘as to the Lord’ (ὡς τῷ κυρίῳ) qualifications at 3:18-4:1, which ground and limit every household instruction Christologically.
Peace
Approved rendering: мир
Transliteration: myr
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: спокій, затишшя
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:20’s ‘making peace by the blood of his cross’ (a cosmic-scope use) and 3:15’s interpersonal ‘let the peace of Christ rule’ both reuse this Critical root under the baseline’s full wartime-political caution; see making_peace_by_the_cross and peace_of_christ_rule below for passage-specific handling.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Царство Боже
Transliteration: Tsarstvo Bozhe
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: держава Божа
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:13’s ‘kingdom of the Son of his love’ reuses this root; the baseline’s caution about imperial-Russian resonance with ‘царство’ applies with full force given 1:13’s rescue-from-darkness-into-the-kingdom framing.
Sin
Approved rendering: гріх
Transliteration: hrikh
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: помилка, провина
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Underlies ἄφεσις τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν (‘forgiveness of sins,’ 1:14) and the vice list of 3:5-9.
Gentiles
Approved rendering: погани
Transliteration: pohany
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: чужинці
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Underlies the mission-to-the-nations sense in Colossians 1:27’s ‘riches of the mystery… among the Gentiles’; use народи where the derogatory colloquial drift risk applies, per baseline.
Election
Approved rendering: обрання
Transliteration: obrannya
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: доля, фатум, приречення (use only with careful qualification)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Underlies ἐκλεκτοί (‘God’s chosen,’ Colossians 3:12), paired there with святі and улюблені.
Providence
Approved rendering: провидіння Боже
Transliteration: providinnya Bozhe
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: доля, випадок, карма (never use)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:17’s συνίστημι (‘all things hold together in him’) is this letter’s own explicitly Christological restatement of providence and should be cross-referenced to this baseline doctrine, not treated as a separate concept.
Mission
Approved rendering: місія / благовістя
Transliteration: misiya / blahovistya
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Rejected alternatives: пропаганда (never use)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 4:2-6 (open door for the word, wisdom toward outsiders, seasoned speech) extends this doctrine in exactly the wartime-chaplaincy-sensitive terms the baseline anticipates.
Circumcision
Approved rendering: обрізання
Transliteration: obrizannya
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation
Inherited from Galatians package, exact. Colossians 2:11 introduces περιτομὴ ἀχειροποίητος (‘circumcision not made by hands’) as a compound built on this term; see circumcision_not_made_by_hands below for the new ἀχειροποίητος element and its Мандиліон-adjacent risk. Also reused at 3:11’s unity formula (‘neither circumcision nor uncircumcision’).
Love
Approved rendering: любов
Transliteration: lyubov
Doctrine: Faith Working through Love
Inherited from Galatians package, exact. Colossians 3:14’s ‘bond of perfect unity’ (σύνδεσμος τῆς τελειότητος) names love as the perfecting bond over the virtue list of 3:12-13; 1:8’s ‘love in the Spirit’ also reuses this term.
Neither Jew Nor Greek
Approved rendering: немає ані юдея, ані грека, ані раба, ані вільного, ані чоловічої статі, ані жіночої
Transliteration: nemaye ani yudeya, ani hreka, ani raba, ani vil’noho, ani cholovichoyi stati, ani zhinochoyi
Doctrine: The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Inherited from Galatians package, exact. Colossians 3:11 is Paul’s own variant of this exact unity formula, expanded to include circumcision/uncircumcision and barbarian/Scythian; see unity_formula_colossians below for the Colossians-specific full phrase, which must retain the same full, unqualified universalizing force as this baseline entry.
Cosmic Powers
Approved rendering: престоли, володарювання, начала, власті
Transliteration: thronoi, kyriotētes, archai, exousiai
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
NEW. Colossians 1:16 (also echoed 2:10, 2:15). Overlaps with the Pseudo-Dionysian ‘celestial hierarchy’ (чини ангельські) embedded in Orthodox/Greek Catholic angelology and iconostasis design. Frame explicitly as a rhetorical totality device naming Christ’s supremacy over every power, named or unnamed — not a technical angelic-rank lesson. Native speaker review required; theologian review if used to argue a specific angelic-rank doctrine.
Body Of Christ Church
Approved rendering: тіло
Transliteration: sōma (ecclesial sense)
Doctrine: Christ as Head of the Church
NEW. Colossians 1:18, 1:24. Reuses the already-Critical тіло homograph (see baseline flesh entry). Must be explicitly disambiguated on first occurrence from σάρξ/тіло-as-flesh AND from Colossians’ two further senses of σῶμα in this book alone: substance-vs-shadow (2:17, see shadow_and_substance) and literal physical body (2:11, 23). Flag each occurrence’s specific sense explicitly.
Deep Knowledge
Approved rendering: [глибоке] пізнання
Transliteration: epignōsis
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 1:9-10, 2:2. Distinguished from generic γνῶσις (see wisdom_and_knowledge below) — Paul’s authentic, Christ-centered knowledge contrasted with the false teachers’ claimed rival knowledge. Context-sensitive; must preserve the contrast.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: спадщина
Transliteration: klēros / klēronomia
Doctrine: Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him)
NEW. Colossians 1:12 (inheritance of the saints in light) and 3:24 (inheritance promised even to slaves — a doctrinally rich reversal). Genuine false-friend risk: the same Greek root κλῆρος gives Ukrainian клір/клірик (‘clergy’), an unrelated modern referent. Ensure ‘inheritance’ is never confused with a clerical-office sense.
Rescued From Darkness
Approved rendering: визволив / влада темряви
Transliteration: rhyomai, exousia tou skotous
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
NEW. Colossians 1:13. Given the vivid, current wartime ‘darkness vs. light’ resonance dominating Ukrainian public discourse around the invasion, the spiritual-cosmic referent must remain primary and explicit rather than defaulting to a purely political metaphor.
Redemption
Approved rendering: відкуплення / викуплення
Transliteration: apolytrōsis
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
NEW. Colossians 1:14. Must retain the ‘purchase out of slavery/bondage’ connotation, distinct from виправдання (forensic) and примирення (relational) — a third complementary atonement facet, taught together with, never merged into, an undifferentiated ‘salvation’ concept.
Taken Captive False Teaching
Approved rendering: полонити / поневолити
Transliteration: sylagōgeō
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 2:8. Vivid captivity imagery lands with unusual, painful directness given living Ukrainian POWs and family members held captive; deliver with pastoral sensitivity, not casual rhetorical flourish.
Circumcision Not Made By Hands
Approved rendering: обрізання нерукотворне
Transliteration: peritomē acheiropoiētos
Doctrine: Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him)
NEW compound on the baseline’s circumcision root. Colossians 2:11. ἀχειροποίητος strikingly echoes Нерукотворний Образ (the Icon Not Made by Hands / Mandylion), a major Orthodox and Greek Catholic devotional feast and iconographic category — a genuine teaching asset (divine, not humanly-produced, work) but a real risk of confusion between the two distinct referents. Native speaker review recommended; clarifying footnote advised.
Buried And Raised With Christ
Approved rendering: поховані з Христом; воскреслі з Христом
Transliteration: synthaptō, synegeirō
Doctrine: Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him)
NEW compound on the baseline’s воскресіння root. Colossians 2:12, echoed 3:1. Anchors ‘Union with Christ.’ Requires exposition of the ‘already’ reality of union with Christ, distinct from Christ’s own individual resurrection and from the future bodily resurrection still awaited (3:4) — a three-way distinction requiring explicit teaching.
Certificate Of Debt
Approved rendering: рукописання
Transliteration: cheirographon
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Rejected alternatives: боргове зобов’язання (acceptable explanatory gloss only)
NEW. Colossians 2:14. A legal-financial record of guilt/debt against believers, cancelled and nailed to the cross — a fourth, distinct atonement image alongside redemption/reconciliation/forgiveness. Must not be read through a modern financial-prosperity-gospel lens.
Disarmed Triumph
Approved rendering: роззброїв; здобув перемогу
Transliteration: apekdyomai, thriambeuō
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
NEW. Colossians 2:15. Christ’s decisive victory over hostile cosmic powers, pictured as a Roman military triumphal procession. Given current wartime imagery of victory, captivity, and triumphal display in Ukrainian public discourse, keep the spiritual referent (Christ’s cosmic victory over evil powers) clearly primary rather than collapsing into contemporary military triumphalism, paralleling the baseline’s caution about слава.
Shadow And Substance
Approved rendering: тінь / суть
Transliteration: skia / sōma
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 2:17. Old covenant ritual observances as a mere ‘shadow’ of which Christ is the substance/reality — a third distinct sense of σῶμα in this letter. Flag explicitly as yet another sense of the already multivalent тіло/σῶμα word-family (see flesh entry); never render with the same word used for ‘physical body’ or ‘church-body’ without a clarifying gloss.
Self Devised Asceticism
Approved rendering: самовигадана релігійність; смиренність; суворість до тіла
Transliteration: ethelothrēskia, tapeinophrosynē, apheidia sōmatos
Doctrine: The Powerlessness of Self-Devised Asceticism
NEW. Colossians 2:18, 21-23. Self-devised, human-willed religious performance claiming false humility; ascetic severity lacking real power to restrain sinful desire. Must be carefully framed given Ukraine’s own significant monastic and ascetic tradition centered on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (baseline’s separation_unto_gods_service doctrine): the target is self-devised, Christ-displacing religious performance specifically, not voluntary Christian ascetic discipline as such. Note ταπεινοφροσύνη is used with the opposite, POSITIVE valence at 3:12 (see virtue_list_new_self).
Put To Death Old Self
Approved rendering: умертвіть
Transliteration: nekrōsate
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:5. Must be grounded explicitly in the believer’s prior death with Christ (3:3), not presented as self-achieved ascetic mortification (already critiqued at 2:23) — a decisive rejection flowing from an accomplished identity-change, not a technique for producing one.
Being Renewed
Approved rendering: оновлюється
Transliteration: anakainoumenon
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:10. Direct callback to εἰκών (1:15, Christ as the unique Image) now applied to believers’ derivative, ongoing renewal. Requires cross-reference exposition distinguishing Christ’s unique status as the Image from believers’ renewal according to it — must not blur the two into equivalence.
Peace Of Christ Rule
Approved rendering: нехай мир Христовий керує
Transliteration: eirēnē tou Christou brabeuō
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW compound on the baseline’s Critical мир root. Colossians 3:15. Interpersonal, community-governing application of Christ’s peace, distinct from the peace-with-God sense flagged Critical in Romans; still flag мир’s wartime resonance for native speaker awareness.
Fellow Servant
Approved rendering: співслуга
Transliteration: syndoulos
Doctrine: Faithful Witness and Solidarity in Suffering
NEW. Colossians 4:7, 4:9. Positive reuse of the δοῦλος root (see slaves_and_masters) via Onesimus, a literal former runaway slave now ‘beloved brother’ — worth explicit exposition as a lived instance of the unity claim of 3:11 given concrete historical force.
Fellow Prisoner Of War
Approved rendering: товариш у полоні
Transliteration: synaichmalōtos
Doctrine: Faithful Witness and Solidarity in Suffering
Rejected alternatives: співв’язень (acceptable near-synonym)
NEW. Colossians 4:10. Denotes specifically a fellow war-captive. Given the acute, ongoing, painful reality of Ukrainian prisoners of war and their families since 2022, this term lands with unusual direct force; render with pastoral delicacy — a genuine asset connecting apostolic and contemporary suffering, but not to be deployed casually or rhetorically overdrawn.
Chains Bonds
Approved rendering: кайдани
Transliteration: desma
Doctrine: Faithful Witness and Solidarity in Suffering
Rejected alternatives: узи (acceptable near-synonym)
NEW. Colossians 4:18 (‘remember my chains’). Parallel resonance to товариш у полоні above — authenticates the letter’s costly authority and touches a live wartime nerve for captivity/imprisonment vocabulary; handle with the same pastoral delicacy.
Saints And Brothers
Approved rendering: святі, брати
Transliteration: hagioi, pistoi adelphoi
Doctrine: Sainthood (Called to be Holy)
NEW compound entry: святі inherited (see baseline saints entry, High risk); брати is new, Low risk. Colossians 1:2 addresses the whole congregation corporately, not a venerated elite.
Faith And Love
Approved rendering: віра, любов
Transliteration: pistis, agapē
Doctrine: Faith / Faith Working through Love
NEW compound entry, reusing baseline faith and Galatians love exactly. Colossians 1:4, 1:8, 3:14.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: апостол
Transliteration: apostol
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: посланець, проповідник
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:1, 1:23-25’s stewardship (οἰκονομία) of the gospel, and 1:24’s apostolic-suffering doctrine, both extend this office without altering the baseline term.
Called
Approved rendering: покликаний
Transliteration: poklykanyy
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: запрошений
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Not heavily foregrounded lexically in Colossians but underlies the calling-to-peace sense implicit in 3:15.
Calling
Approved rendering: покликання
Transliteration: poklykannya
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: призначення
Inherited from Romans package, exact.
Holy
Approved rendering: святий
Transliteration: svyatyy
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: чистий, непорочний
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Underlies ἅγιοι (saints) and the ἄμωμος/ἀνέγκλητος pairing at Colossians 1:22.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: воскресіння
Transliteration: voskresinnya
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: оживлення, реінкарнація
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians requires this root to support THREE distinct referents (Christ’s own resurrection, the believer’s already-accomplished participatory resurrection at 2:12/3:1, and the future bodily resurrection/glorification awaited at 3:4) — a three-way distinction the baseline single-referent treatment did not need to make; see buried_and_raised_with_christ below.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Син Божий
Transliteration: Syn Bozhyy
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: божественний посланець
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:13’s ‘kingdom of the Son of his love’ (τοῦ υἱοῦ τῆς ἀγάπης αὐτοῦ) extends this term without altering it.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: втілення
Transliteration: vtilennya
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: аватар (never use), явлення
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 2:9’s σωματικῶς (‘bodily’) is this letter’s own reinforcing anti-docetic term for втілення and must be taught alongside it, not as a separate doctrine.
Law
Approved rendering: закон
Transliteration: zakon
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: правило, заповідь (reserve for individual commandments)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Underlies δόγμα (‘ordinances,’ Mosaic ceremonial-legal requirements, 2:14) and the shadow/substance contrast of 2:16-17, though Colossians does not use νόμος itself as a major lexical item.
Glory
Approved rendering: слава
Transliteration: slava
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: шана, велич
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:27 (‘Christ in you, the hope of glory’) and 3:4 (‘when Christ appears… you also will appear with him in glory’) both reuse this High-resonance term under the baseline’s patriotic-collision caution (‘Слава Україні’).
Jesus
Approved rendering: Ісус
Transliteration: Isus
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Иисус (Russian spelling, never use)
Inherited from Romans package, exact.
God
Approved rendering: Бог
Transliteration: Boh
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Всевишній (acceptable poetic synonym only)
Inherited from Romans package, exact.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Святий Дух
Transliteration: Svyatyy Dukh
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: дух (never use alone), енергія
Inherited from Romans package, exact. See holy_spirit_bare below for Colossians 1:8’s bare πνεῦμα occurrence, which must be capitalized and glossed exactly as the Galatians baseline rule requires.
Father
Approved rendering: Отець
Transliteration: Otets’
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: батюшка (reserve exclusively for addressing an Orthodox priest, and is itself a Russicism increasingly avoided)
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Colossians 1:12 (‘giving thanks to the Father’) and 3:17 reuse this term without alteration.
Elemental Principles
Approved rendering: стихії світу
Transliteration: stykhiyi svitu
Doctrine: The Law’s Purpose
Rejected alternatives: духи стихій (never use — risks resonance with post-Soviet folk-spiritual vocabulary)
Inherited from Galatians package, exact. Colossians 2:8, 2:20 reuse this exact term for the elementary religious/legal principles behind the Colossian false teaching.
Creation Created
Approved rendering: творіння / створити
Transliteration: ktisis / ktizō
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
NEW. Colossians 1:15-16, 23. Standard rendering; risk is downstream of firstborn above — Christ must be understood as creation’s agent and maker, never its first member.
All Things
Approved rendering: все / все існуюче
Transliteration: ta panta
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
NEW. Colossians 1:16-17, 20 (structural refrain). Apply the baseline’s universality-claim rule (Rom 3:23; 10:12-13) verbatim: never soften or partially scope this totality.
Sustains Creation
Approved rendering: тримається / держиться
Transliteration: synistēmi
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
NEW. Colossians 1:17. Present-tense ongoing cohesion, not merely a past creative act. Complements провидіння Боже (baseline providence entry) in explicitly Christological terms; cross-reference rather than treat as a separate doctrine.
Beginning Origin
Approved rendering: начало / початок
Transliteration: archē
Doctrine: Christ as Head of the Church
NEW. Colossians 1:18. Deliberate lexical echo with ἀρχαί (‘rulers,’ 1:16) — Christ is both the true ἀρχή (source) and sovereign over every rival ἀρχή. Ukrainian начало could carry both the origin sense and echo the Orthodox angelological rank term (cosmic_powers above); flag for exposition rather than resolve silently.
Preeminence
Approved rendering: мати першість
Transliteration: prōteuōn
Doctrine: The Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
NEW. Colossians 1:18. The hymn’s climactic purpose clause: Christ’s total, unqualified supremacy ‘in everything’ must not be softened.
Well Pleased To Dwell
Approved rendering: благоволив / зволив
Transliteration: eudokeō
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
NEW. Colossians 1:19. Shares the root of the well-known liturgical Christmas phrase ‘в людях благовоління’ (Luke 2:14), a positive theological association readers already possess.
Dwell Permanently
Approved rendering: перебувати (постійно)
Transliteration: katoikeō
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
NEW. Colossians 1:19, 2:9. Fixed, permanent residence (contrast with a merely temporary visitation), reinforced by the present tense at 2:9.
Cross Blood
Approved rendering: кров / хрест
Transliteration: haima / stauros
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
NEW. Colossians 1:20. кров (blood) is standard, low risk. хрест (cross) carries strong Ukrainian devotional and national-symbolic resonance (roadside/battlefield memorial crosses, military honors); keep the atoning-sacrificial referent primary, paralleling the baseline’s caution about слава’s patriotic overtone.
Hope
Approved rendering: надія
Transliteration: elpis
Doctrine: Gospel
NEW. Colossians 1:5 (‘hope laid up in heaven’) and 1:27 (‘Christ in you, the hope of glory’). Must be anchored explicitly to the gospel’s guaranteed future certainty, not left to default into ordinary Ukrainian speech’s more generic optimistic sense, particularly salient given widespread current hope-language surrounding the war.
Wisdom And Knowledge
Approved rendering: мудрість, знання, розуміння
Transliteration: sophia, gnōsis, synesis pneumatikē
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 1:9, 2:3. Context-sensitive alongside ἐπίγνωσις; Paul co-opts and redirects the rival teachers’ own vocabulary toward Christ alone as the sole location of all wisdom and knowledge.
Reconciliation Applied Personally
Approved rendering: ворог; відчужені
Transliteration: echthros, apēllotriōmenoi
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
NEW. Colossians 1:21-22. Personal application of the cosmic reconciliation of 1:20 to the readers themselves; the doctrinal point is that this must land personally, not remain abstract.
Stewardship
Approved rendering: служіння
Transliteration: oikonomia
Doctrine: Apostleship
NEW. Colossians 1:25. Paul’s divinely entrusted stewardship of making the gospel and its mystery fully known.
Maturity Completeness
Approved rendering: досконалий / зрілий
Transliteration: teleios
Doctrine: Christian Maturity and True Wisdom in Christ
NEW. Colossians 1:28 (also τελειότης, 3:14). Risk of misreading as sinless moral perfectionism; must be taught as spiritual maturity/completeness in Christ, not flawlessness.
Deceptive Persuasive Speech
Approved rendering: обманювати; переконливі хибні слова
Transliteration: paralogizomai, pithanologia
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 2:4.
Philosophy
Approved rendering: філософія
Transliteration: philosophia
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 2:8. Targets a specific syncretistic system at Colossae, not philosophy, reasoned thought, or scholarship generally.
Ordinances Decrees
Approved rendering: постанови / вимоги
Transliteration: dogma
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Rejected alternatives: догма / догмат (NEVER use — modern Ukrainian cognate means Christian doctrinal dogma; using it here wrongly suggests Christian doctrine itself, not Mosaic ceremonial-legal requirements, has been cancelled)
NEW. Colossians 2:14. False-friend risk explicitly flagged. Refers to Mosaic ceremonial-legal requirements cancelled along with the record of debt, not Christian doctrine.
Seek Things Above
Approved rendering: шукайте того, що вгорі
Transliteration: zēteite / phroneite ta anō
Doctrine: Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him)
NEW. Colossians 3:1-2. Ethical outworking of union with Christ; avoid a false otherworldly-escapism reading — must be taught alongside 3:5-17’s very this-worldly ethical instructions.
Hidden With Christ
Approved rendering: прихований
Transliteration: kryptō
Doctrine: Assurance and Hope: Life Hidden with Christ
NEW. Colossians 3:3. Genuine pastoral asset for a displaced/wartime readership (resonance with shelter/hiddenness-as-safety), provided the spiritual referent (secure identity in Christ) remains primary rather than a promise of physical safety.
Revealed At Christs Appearing
Approved rendering: з’явитися
Transliteration: phaneroō
Doctrine: Assurance and Hope: Life Hidden with Christ
NEW. Colossians 3:4. Future eschatological revealing of believers with Christ ‘in glory’; ties to the baseline’s assurance_of_salvation register.
Vice List
Approved rendering: блуд, нечистота, пристрасть, лиха пожадливість, зажерливість, ідолослужіння
Transliteration: porneia, akatharsia, pathos, epithymia kakē, pleonexia, eidōlolatria
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:5. Notably equates πλεονεξία (‘covetousness/greed’) directly with εἰδωλολατρία (‘idolatry’) — worth explicit exposition given wartime economic pressures and profiteering discussions.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: гнів Божий
Transliteration: orgē tou theou
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:6. Must remain the personal, righteous response of a personal God to sin, never impersonal karma or fate, consistent with the baseline’s providence caution.
Bond Of Unity
Approved rendering: зв’язок досконалості
Transliteration: syndesmos tēs teleiotētos
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:14. Love as the perfecting bond binding all other virtues together; reuses τελειότης/τέλειος (see maturity_completeness).
Obey Children And Slaves
Approved rendering: слухатися
Transliteration: hypakouō
Doctrine: Household Codes
NEW. Colossians 3:20, 3:22. Shares the root of послух віри (baseline obedience_of_faith) but names household/social obedience, not gospel-obedience; context-sensitivity flag required so the two are not conflated.
Eye Service And Sincerity
Approved rendering: служіння на показ; щирість серця
Transliteration: ophthalmodoulia, anthrōpareskos, haplotēs kardias, ek psychēs
Doctrine: Household Codes
NEW. Colossians 3:22-23. Contrast between outward performance for human approval and genuine, wholehearted service rendered as to the Lord. Notable pastoral resonance for wartime volunteer/relief labor — an asset requiring no adjustment.
Impartiality And Fair Treatment
Approved rendering: справедливість, рівність
Transliteration: prosōpolēmpsia / dikaion kai tēn isotēta
Doctrine: Household Codes
NEW. Colossians 3:25, 4:1. Important teaching-point flag: справедливість is the CORRECT rendering here (social justice/fair treatment) precisely because this is a social-ethical, not a soteriological, context — the OPPOSITE of the baseline’s Romans caution against справедливість as a false-friend for праведність. Flag explicitly to prevent over-correction by translators trained on the Romans caution.
Provoke And Discouragement
Approved rendering: гірко ставитися; занепадати духом
Transliteration: pikrainomai, erethizō, athymeō
Doctrine: Household Codes
NEW. Colossians 3:19, 3:21. Restraint placed on parents and husbands against harshness that embitters or discourages. ἀθυμέω’s root (θυμός, morale/spirit) invites a light cross-reference to the baseline’s caution about бойовий дух-type morale vocabulary, though the Greek root differs.
Open Door And Wisdom To Outsiders
Approved rendering: двері для слова; мудрість; слово, приправлене сіллю
Transliteration: thyra tou logou, sophia, kairos, halas ērtymenos
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
NEW. Colossians 4:3-6. Reinforces the baseline’s evangelism/mission doctrine; standard vocabulary, low-medium risk.
Low Risk Terms
Thanksgiving
Approved rendering: подяка
Transliteration: podyaka
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Inherited from Romans package, exact. Standard across Colossians 1:3-5, 1:12, 3:15-17, 4:2.
Fellowship
Approved rendering: спілкування
Transliteration: spilkuvannya
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: дружба, колектив (avoid Soviet-collective connotation)
Inherited from Romans package, exact.
Steadfast Blameless
Approved rendering: непорочні; твердий
Transliteration: amōmos, anenklētos, hedraios
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
NEW. Colossians 1:22-23. ἑδραῖος carries a notable positive wartime-resonance asset (steadfastness under pressure), usable without adjustment.
Striving In Ministry
Approved rendering: боротися / трудитися
Transliteration: agōnizomai
Doctrine: Apostleship
NEW. Colossians 1:29, 2:1. Notable resonance with wartime боротьба (struggle/fight) vocabulary — an asset for conveying intensity, provided the referent (gospel labor and prayer) remains clear and is not over-militarized.
Rooted And Built Up
Approved rendering: вкорінені, збудовані
Transliteration: errizōmenoi, epoikodomoumenoi
Doctrine: Christian Maturity and True Wisdom in Christ
NEW. Colossians 2:7.
Embatteo Dwelling On Visions
Approved rendering: докладно займатися
Transliteration: embateuō
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
NEW. Colossians 2:18. Obscure ritual-technical term, minor risk.

Approved rendering: милосердя, доброта, лагідність, довготерпіння
Transliteration: splanchna oiktirmou, chrēstotēs, prautēs, makrothymia
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:12. Hebraic ‘bowels of mercy’ idiom naturally adapted to the standard Ukrainian emotional-organ idiom (серце); no special risk.
Psalms Hymns Songs
Approved rendering: псалми, гімни, духовні пісні
Transliteration: psalmoi, hymnoi, ōdai pneumatikai
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
NEW. Colossians 3:16. Worship-music categories are actively differentiated in practice between Ukrainian Protestant congregations (contemporary song) and Orthodox/Greek Catholic liturgical chant traditions — a teaching-context note, not a lexical risk.
Comfort And Care
Approved rendering: потіха; турбота
Transliteration: parēgoria, zēlos
Doctrine: Faithful Witness and Solidarity in Suffering
NEW. Colossians 4:11, 4:13. Resonant with wartime pastoral-care/chaplaincy context already noted as an asset in the baseline.
