Highest-Priority Flags for Phase 2 Escalation
The following terms require mandatory human theologian review on every occurrence, per the escalation logic established in the baseline’s 12_ai_translation_requirements.md, extended here for 2 Peter:
- Божественна природа (θεία φύσις, #13)
- причасники (κοινωνοί, #14)
- зірка світанку / NEVER денниця (φωσφόρος, #40)
- свобода (ἐλευθερία, false-teacher usage, #63)
- Святий Дух (Πνεῦμα Ἅγιον, #44)
- власне тлумачення (ἰδία ἐπίλυσις, #42)
- Владика (δεσπότης, #50, if retained rather than Господар)
- згубні єресі (αἱρέσεις, #49)
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: праведність
Transliteration: pravednist’
Doctrine: Salvation and Its Certainty
Rejected alternatives: справедливість, чесність
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Recurs across 2 Peter 1:1, 2:5, 2:7, 2:21, 3:13 applied both to imputed standing and to a ‘way’ believers walk in; справедливість remains forbidden.
Grace
Approved rendering: благодать
Transliteration: blahodat’
Doctrine: Grace and Peace in the Christian Life
Rejected alternatives: милість, талан, щастя
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. All three-tradition cautions apply unchanged (Orthodox uncreated-energies, Greek Catholic created/infused grace, Protestant unmerited favor). Occurs at 1:2 and climactically at 3:18, bookending the letter.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Святий Дух
Transliteration: Svyatyy Dukh
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: дух (never use alone), енергія
Original: Πνεῦμα Ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. This book’s single most important statement about the mechanism of inspiration (1:21, ‘carried along by the Holy Spirit’). Bare ‘дух’ must never stand in for the Holy Spirit given wartime idioms like ‘бойовий дух’; always capitalize and pair with Святий.
Freedom
Approved rendering: свобода (exposition) / воля (Scripture citation)
Transliteration: svoboda / volya
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Inherited from Galatians package. 2 Peter 2:19 applies this exceptionally heavy Ukrainian national-political term to a deliberately ironic counterfeit (‘promising them freedom’ while being ‘slaves of corruption’). Must never be allowed to read as skepticism toward Ukraine’s own legitimate freedom struggle. Human theologian review mandatory for every occurrence.
Salvation
Approved rendering: спасіння
Transliteration: spasinnya
Doctrine: Salvation and Its Certainty
Rejected alternatives: визволення, рятування (too generic, ‘rescue’)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. At 3:15, ‘our Lord’s patience is salvation’ explicitly links спасіння to God’s patient timing; must remain anchored to Christ’s decisive death and resurrection, not read as evidence of divine slowness or uncertainty.
Divine Nature
Approved rendering: Божественна природа
Transliteration: Bozhestvenna pryroda
Doctrine: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
Original: θεία φύσις
Category: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
CRITICAL — the single highest-priority risk in the entire book. 2 Peter 1:4 is the classic proof-text cited by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the historically Moscow-linked Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church alike for θέωσις/обоження (theosis/deification) — genuine ontological participation in God’s own nature through sacramental, transformative union. This curriculum’s Protestant/evangelical frame (gracious enablement to escape corruption and progressively grow morally, grounded in promise and knowledge) must be stated explicitly as distinct from, though not flatly hostile to, the theosis reading. Mandatory human theologian review for every occurrence.
Partakers
Approved rendering: спільники / учасники
Transliteration: spil’nyky / uchasnyky
Doctrine: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
Rejected alternatives: причасники (forbidden — Eucharistic-communicant homograph)
Original: κοινωνοί
Category: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
CRITICAL (κοινωνοί, 1:4). In everyday Ukrainian religious usage, причасник/причастя is the standard word for a Communicant/Holy Communion; rendering κοινωνοί as причасники risks being heard as ‘those who receive Communion,’ importing sacramental theology absent from Peter’s own statement. учасники is recommended as primary; спільники acceptable in less formal exposition. Mandatory theologian review and explicit disambiguating gloss if причасники is ever encountered in source drafts.
Morning Star
Approved rendering: зірка світанку / вранішня зоря
Transliteration: zirka svitanku / vranishnya zorya
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: денниця (FORBIDDEN — Isaiah 14:12 Lucifer/Satan association in Ukrainian and wider Slavic religious tradition)
Original: φωσφόρος
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL (φωσφόρος, 1:19). денниця must NEVER be used: in Ukrainian and wider Slavic religious tradition it carries a strong secondary association with the fallen ‘son of the morning’ of Isaiah 14:12 (‘Як спав ти з неба, о сине денниці!’), i.e. Satan/Lucifer. Applying it to this positive image of Christ’s certain return would produce a serious doctrinal inversion. Mandatory human theologian review for every occurrence, including any future treatment of Revelation 22:16.
Promising Freedom
Approved rendering: свобода
Transliteration: svoboda
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: ἐλευθερία (ἐπαγγελλόμενοι)
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL (ἐλευθερία, 2:19, ironic false-teacher usage). Extends the Galatians baseline’s Critical свобода/воля flag into a new, deliberately ironic context: false liberty that is actually bondage. Must be made unmistakably clear as Peter exposing a false teacher’s false promise; must never read as skepticism toward, or commentary on, Ukraine’s own legitimate freedom struggle. Mandatory human theologian review for every occurrence.
High Risk Terms
Faith
Approved rendering: віра
Transliteration: vira
Doctrine: Grace and Peace in the Christian Life
Rejected alternatives: довіра, переконання
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Peter 1:1, 1:5 must be read as personal trust in Christ, not confessional/institutional identity (OCU/UOC/Greek Catholic/Protestant).
Peace
Approved rendering: мир
Transliteration: myr
Doctrine: Grace and Peace in the Christian Life
Rejected alternatives: спокій, затишшя
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 1:2 (greeting) and 3:14 (‘found… in peace’); the wartime мир-homograph caution (opposite of the ongoing war) must not eclipse the relational/moral sense intended.
Lord
Approved rendering: Господь
Transliteration: Hospod’
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Rejected alternatives: хазяїн, владика (reserve for liturgical/poetic register only)
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies ‘the Day of the Lord’ (день Господній, 3:10) and ‘our Lord’s patience’ (3:15); must retain exclusive, supreme lordship sense throughout.
Glory
Approved rendering: слава
Transliteration: slava
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: шана, велич
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 1:17 (the Father’s bestowed glory) and 3:18 (doxology to Christ); the ‘Слава Україні’ patriotic-resonance caution applies at both occurrences, and this entry must be kept lexically distinct from величність (majesty, 1:16) and from the plural non-divine небесні достойники (δόξαι, 2:10).
Calling
Approved rendering: покликання
Transliteration: poklykannya
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: призначення
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Paired with обрання at 1:10 (‘make your calling and election sure’); must convey sovereign summons confirmed by growth in virtue, not human achievement.
Election
Approved rendering: обрання
Transliteration: obrannya
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: доля, фатум, приречення (use only with careful qualification)
Original: ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. доля/фатум/карма remain forbidden per baseline caution, with heightened force given wartime fate/survival discourse; paired with покликання at 1:10.
Promise
Approved rendering: обітниця
Transliteration: obitnytsya
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Original: ἐπαγγελία / ἐπάγγελμα
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Galatians package. Occurs at 1:4 (ground of escaping corruption), 3:4 and 3:9 (the scoffers’ challenge and its answer); requires OT/NT covenant-promise background.
Love
Approved rendering: любов
Transliteration: lyubov
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith
Inherited from Galatians package. Capstone virtue-chain link at 1:7; must be defined as committed active good, not sentiment alone, given любов’s crowded semantic neighborhood (romantic/familial/patriotic/neighbor-love).
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Царство Боже
Transliteration: Tsarstvo Bozhe
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: держава Божа
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies ‘eternal kingdom’ (вічне Царство, 1:11); the caution against imperial ‘царство’ echo from Russian imperial rule applies with undiminished force to this eschatological intensification.
Sin
Approved rendering: гріх
Transliteration: hrikh
Doctrine: Salvation and Its Certainty
Rejected alternatives: помилка, провина
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies ‘cleansed from former sins’ (1:9, ἁμαρτημάτων); retains fuller devotional weight amid the wartime religious revival, per baseline caution.
God And Savior
Approved rendering: Бог і Спаситель
Transliteration: Boh i Spasytel’
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: Θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ Σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Christology
New term. 2 Peter 1:1. A grammatically explicit direct predication of θεός to Jesus, sharper than Romans 9:5. Risk is under-teaching (over-familiar liturgical ears may not register the argumentative force) rather than doctrinal controversy, since Nicene Christology is shared ground across all three Ukrainian traditions.
Divine Power
Approved rendering: Божественна сила
Transliteration: Bozhestvenna syla
Doctrine: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
Rejected alternatives: енергія (Palamite collision, avoid)
Original: θεία δύναμις
Category: God
New term (θεία δύναμις). 1:3. Avoid a rendering suggesting the Orthodox Palamite technical category of uncreated ‘energies,’ which would import an unrelated dogmatic debate into a plain statement about God’s effective might.
Corruption
Approved rendering: тління
Transliteration: tlinnya
Doctrine: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
Original: φθορά
Category: Sin
New term (φθορά). Must render identically at all three occurrences (1:4; 2:12; 2:19) so the reader can trace Peter’s escape-from-corruption / slaves-of-corruption contrast across the letter.
Godliness
Approved rendering: благочестя
Transliteration: blahochestya
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: εὐσέβεια
Category: Sanctification
New term (εὐσέβεια). 1:3, 1:6-7. Grounded Ukrainian risk: благочестя is deeply established Orthodox/Greek Catholic devotional vocabulary (Ukraine’s own self-designation ‘православ’я’/Orthodoxy is etymologically ‘right-glory/right-worship’), risking a reading of external liturgical correctness rather than the whole-of-life, Spirit-enabled reverence Peter means. Must be explicitly anchored to inward transformation via the surrounding virtue chain.
Eternal Kingdom
Approved rendering: вічне Царство
Transliteration: vichne Tsarstvo
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Original: αἰώνιος βασιλεία
Category: Eschatology
New term (αἰώνιος βασιλεία). 1:11. Reuses baseline Царство Боже with an вічне modifier; the caution against imperial ‘царство’ resonance applies with undiminished force.
Parousia
Approved rendering: пришестя
Transliteration: pryshestya
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: парусія (avoid transliteration — forfeits the established creedal asset), наявність (too weak, loses eschatological edge)
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology
New term. Established church-wide across Orthodox, Greek Catholic, and Protestant usage via the Nicene Creed’s ‘Друге Пришестя Христове’ — an asset, not a liability. Must retain full futurity and certainty; recurs at 3:4 in the scoffers’ challenge and must be answered with the same certainty.
Majestic Glory
Approved rendering: Велична Слава
Transliteration: Velychna Slava
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: μεγαλοπρεπὴς δόξα
Category: God
New term (μεγαλοπρεπὴς δόξα). 1:17. A reverential periphrasis functioning as a title for God the Father; compounds the слава caution — must be capitalized and glossed on first occurrence or Ukrainian readers may parse it as a mere descriptive phrase rather than register it as a divine title.
Beloved Son
Approved rendering: Син Мій улюблений
Transliteration: Syn Miy ulyublenyy
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός
Category: Christology
New term (ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός). 1:17. A quoted formula, not free composition — must match the Ohienko rendering of the parallel Gospel Transfiguration/Baptism texts verbatim for cross-reference consistency.
More Sure
Approved rendering: надійніший / певніший
Transliteration: nadiynishyy / pevnishyy
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Original: βεβαιότερος
Category: Scripture
New term (βεβαιότερος). 1:19. This is the pivot of the core passage and the doctrinal foundation for Scripture’s reliability. Must not be rendered so as to imply Scripture is merely equal to, or lesser than, personal religious experience; the comparative force must be preserved with full weight.
Prophetic Word
Approved rendering: пророче слово
Transliteration: proroche slovo
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Original: προφητικὸς λόγος
Category: Scripture
New compound term (προφητικὸς λόγος) built on the baseline’s пророк/пророцтво. 1:19. The load-bearing doctrinal phrase for the book’s central Scripture-reliability argument; must be fixed identically across all Phase 2 documents.
Scripture
Approved rendering: Писання
Transliteration: Pysannya
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Original: γραφή
Category: Scripture
New term (γραφή), capitalized. 1:20, and extended to Paul’s letters at 3:16. Both Orthodox and Greek Catholic traditions hold Scripture as authoritative within Holy Tradition (Передання) rather than as a stand-alone final authority; this curriculum’s implicit sola scriptura framing must be stated plainly, not assumed as shared ground.
Ones Own Interpretation
Approved rendering: власне тлумачення
Transliteration: vlasne tlumachennya
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Original: ἰδία ἐπίλυσις
Category: Scripture
New term (ἰδία ἐπίλυσις). 1:20. Directly intersects the live Protestant/Orthodox-Greek Catholic interpretive-authority question already flagged in the baseline’s inspiration_of_scripture doctrine. Curriculum exposition must state explicitly which reading is taught (the prophets’ own origination, per v.21) rather than allowing either an individualist or institutional resolution to be imported by default. Mandatory human theologian review.
Men From God
Approved rendering: люди від Бога / святі Божі люди
Transliteration: lyudy vid Boha / svyati Bozhi lyudy
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Original: ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ἄνθρωποι / ἅγιοι Θεοῦ ἄνθρωποι
Category: Scripture
New term (ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ἄνθρωποι / textual variant ἅγιοι Θεοῦ ἄνθρωποι). 1:21. Names the dual-authorship model of inspiration (full human agency, full divine originating authority). If the ἅγιοι variant is followed, reuses baseline святий exactly.
Destructive Heresies
Approved rendering: згубні єресі
Transliteration: zghubni yeresi
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: αἱρέσεις ἀπωλείας
Category: False Teaching
New term (αἱρέσεις ἀπωλείας). 2:1. Grounded Ukrainian risk: accusations of ‘heresy’ (єресь) and schism are actively exchanged among Ukraine’s living church jurisdictions (OCU, UOC, UGCC) as part of current legitimacy disputes. Must be presented strictly as Peter’s own first-century apostolic judgment, never as commentary on any contemporary Ukrainian inter-church dispute.
The Master
Approved rendering: Господар
Transliteration: Hospodar
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Rejected alternatives: Владика (rejected — collides with the contemporary title of address for an Orthodox/Greek Catholic bishop), деспот (rejected — carries a negative modern political ‘tyrant’ connotation)
Original: δεσπότης
Category: Christology
New term (δεσπότης). 2:1. Distinct from κύριος; emphasizes absolute ownership. Владика must not be used by default given its live contemporary ecclesiastical-office collision; Господар is the recommended default.
Glorious Ones
Approved rendering: небесні достойники
Transliteration: nebesni dostoynyky
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Rejected alternatives: слави (bare, rejected — risks momentary collision with ‘Слава Україні’)
Original: δόξαι
Category: False Teaching
New term (δόξαι, plural non-divine use). 2:10. A periphrastic rendering is adopted specifically to sidestep the patriotic-slogan collision entirely rather than disambiguate after the fact.
Slaves Of Corruption
Approved rendering: раби тління
Transliteration: raby tlinnya
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: δοῦλοι τῆς φθορᾶς
Category: Sin
New compound term (δοῦλοι τῆς φθορᾶς) combining раб and тління exactly. 2:19. Direct antithesis to the false ‘freedom’ just promised; both component terms must reuse their established entries for internal consistency.
Way Of Righteousness
Approved rendering: шлях праведності
Transliteration: shlyakh pravednosti
Doctrine: Salvation and Its Certainty
Original: ὁδὸς δικαιοσύνης
Category: Salvation
New compound term (ὁδὸς δικαιοσύνης) reusing baseline праведність exactly. 2:21. Frames apostasy as turning back from known truth, not ignorance.
Holy Commandment
Approved rendering: свята заповідь
Transliteration: svyata zapovid’
Doctrine: Salvation and Its Certainty
Original: ἁγία ἐντολή
Category: Sanctification
New compound term (ἁγία ἐντολή) reusing baseline святий exactly. 2:21; pairs with way_of_righteousness in the same verse.
Where Is The Promise
Approved rendering: Де обітниця Його пришестя?
Transliteration: De obitnytsya Yoho pryshestya?
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Original: ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ ἐπαγγελία τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦ
Category: Eschatology
New fixed compound phrase (ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ ἐπαγγελία τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦ) combining already-established обітниця and пришестя. 3:4. Must be recorded and rendered identically as a single memorized unit since it is quoted rhetorically and then directly refuted by the rest of the chapter.
Elements Cosmic
Approved rendering: стихії
Transliteration: stykhiyi
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Original: στοιχεῖα
Category: Eschatology
New term (στοιχεῖα), a homograph of the Galatians baseline’s elemental_principles (стихії світу). 3:10, 3:12. Here the referent is the literal physical components of the created cosmos, dissolved by fire — NOT ‘elementary religious/legal principles.’ Mandatory first-occurrence disambiguation note required.
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: день Господній
Transliteration: den’ Hospodniy
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Original: ἡμέρα Κυρίου
Category: Judgment
New term (ἡμέρα Κυρίου) reusing baseline Господь exactly. 3:10. Fixed eschatological technical term (cf. 1 Thess 5:2; Acts 2:20); requires consistent rendering across all future NT curricula.
Will Come As A Thief
Approved rendering: прийде як злодій
Transliteration: pryyde yak zlodiy
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Original: ἥξει… ὡς κλέπτης
Category: Judgment
New fixed dominical idiom (ἥξει… ὡς κλέπτης, echoing Matt 24:43//Luke 12:39). 3:10. Must be rendered identically wherever it recurs in future curricula.
New Heavens And New Earth
Approved rendering: нове небо і нова земля
Transliteration: nove nebo i nova zemlya
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Original: καινοὺς οὐρανοὺς καὶ γῆν καινήν
Category: Eschatology
New term (καινοὺς οὐρανοὺς καὶ γῆν καινήν, echoing Isaiah 65:17; 66:22; cf. Rev 21:1). 3:13. Conceptually resonant with, but textually distinct from, the Galatians baseline’s нове творіння (new_creation); do not lexically conflate the two.
Righteousness Dwells
Approved rendering: у якому живе праведність
Transliteration: u yakomu zhyve pravednist’
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Original: δικαιοσύνη κατοικεῖ
Category: Eschatology
New term (δικαιοσύνη κατοικεῖ) reusing baseline праведність exactly. 3:13. Positive eschatological counterpart to present corruption.
Patience Longsuffering
Approved rendering: довготерпіння
Transliteration: dovhoterpinnya
Doctrine: Patience of God’s Timing
Original: μακροθυμία
Category: God
New term (μακροθυμία). 3:9, 3:15. Doctrinal core of Patience of God’s Timing. Must be kept lexically distinct from витривалість (ὑπομονή, ch.1). Grounded wartime risk: readers enduring a prolonged war may bring an acute personal ‘why the delay’ question; must be framed as purposive mercy, not indifference or weakness.
Spotless Blameless In Peace
Approved rendering: непорочні й чисті… у мирі
Transliteration: neporochni y chysti… u myri
Doctrine: Holy Living in Light of the End
Original: ἄσπιλοι καὶ ἀμώμητοι… ἐν εἰρήνῃ
Category: Sanctification
New term (ἄσπιλοι καὶ ἀμώμητοι… ἐν εἰρήνῃ) reusing baseline мир exactly. 3:14. The wartime мир-homograph caution must not eclipse this verse’s relational, moral sense.
Other Scriptures
Approved rendering: інші Писання
Transliteration: inshi Pysannya
Doctrine: Canon Consciousness and Apostolic Scripture
Original: λοιπαὶ γραφαί
Category: Scripture
New term (λοιπαὶ γραφαί) built on Писання. 3:16. Significant NT self-testimony to an emerging canon within the apostolic era itself; must be taught as historical/doctrinal fact, not neutral background.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: апостол
Transliteration: apostol
Doctrine: Apostolic Eyewitness Authority
Rejected alternatives: посланець, проповідник
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Peter 1:1 Peter pairs this with раб (servant/slave) as a double self-identification opening the letter.
Holy
Approved rendering: святий
Transliteration: svyatyy
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: чистий, непорочний
Inherited from Romans package. Used in ‘holy mountain’ (1:18), ‘holy commandment’ (2:21), and optionally ‘holy men of God’ (1:21, textual variant).
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Син Божий
Transliteration: Syn Bozhyy
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: божественний посланець
Inherited from Romans package. Provides the doctrinal frame behind the quoted Transfiguration formula ‘Син Мій улюблений’ (1:17), which must match the Ohienko Gospel parallel verbatim rather than deriving independently from this entry.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: сила Божа
Transliteration: syla Bozha
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: енергія
Inherited from Romans package. Provides the pattern for this book’s сила (δύναμις, 1:16) and Божественна сила (θεία δύναμις, 1:3); avoid енергія given its specialized Orthodox Palamite sense.
God
Approved rendering: Бог
Transliteration: Boh
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Всевишній (acceptable poetic synonym only)
Inherited from Romans package. Directly predicated of Jesus at 1:1 (‘Бог і Спаситель’) in a sharper grammatical construction than Romans 9:5.
Jesus
Approved rendering: Ісус
Transliteration: Isus
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Иисус (Russian spelling, never use)
Inherited from Romans package. Never the Russian spelling Иисус.
Father
Approved rendering: Отець
Transliteration: Otets’
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: батюшка (reserve exclusively for addressing an Orthodox priest, and is itself a Russicism increasingly avoided)
Inherited from Romans package. 2 Peter 1:17: ‘having received honor and glory from God the Father’ (παρὰ Θεοῦ Πατρός) — the Father’s own testimony to the Son at the Transfiguration.
False Brothers
Approved rendering: лжебрати
Transliteration: lzhebraty
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Rejected alternatives: опоненти (too weak)
Inherited from Galatians package as the precedent for the productive лже- prefix pattern this book extends to лжепророки (2:1) and лжеучителі (2:1).
Called
Approved rendering: покликаний
Transliteration: poklykanyy
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: запрошений
Inherited from Romans package. Adjective form underlying the compound ‘calling and election’ (покликання та обрання, 1:10).
Elemental Principles
Approved rendering: стихії світу
Transliteration: stykhiyi svitu
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Rejected alternatives: духи стихій (never use)
Inherited from Galatians package. Recorded here specifically so translators can see and avoid the homograph collision with this book’s distinct new term ‘стихії’ (elements_cosmic, 3:10, 3:12), which denotes the literal physical components of creation, NOT the Galatians sense of elementary religious/legal bondage-principles. The two must be explicitly disambiguated on first occurrence in any 2 Peter 3 material.
Servant Slave
Approved rendering: раб
Transliteration: rab
Doctrine: Apostolic Eyewitness Authority
Rejected alternatives: слуга (too weak, loses total-ownership sense)
Original: δοῦλος
Category: Christian Identity
New term. раб is the established Ohienko convention (cf. Rom 1:1) and must be reused. Grounded Ukrainian risk: amid the ongoing war, раб’s connotation of total ownership/bondage carries heightened, painful resonance (forced deportation, POWs, conscripted labor). The positive, willing, honorific sense — total devotion to Christ, not coercion — must be made explicit in surrounding exposition. Also underlies ‘раби тління’ (slaves_of_corruption, 2:19), where it forms the deliberate antithesis to the false teachers’ counterfeit freedom.
Faith Of Equal Standing
Approved rendering: рівноцінна віра
Transliteration: rivnotsinna vira
Doctrine: Grace and Peace in the Christian Life
Original: ἰσότιμος πίστις
Category: Faith
New term. 2 Peter 1:1. Faith of the same precious quality and value regardless of when or how a believer came to it. Must not be read as implying degrees of faith’s value based on confessional tradition or apostolic proximity.
Savior
Approved rendering: Спаситель
Transliteration: Spasytel’
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: Σωτήρ
Category: Salvation
New term. Fixed divine title recurring at 1:1, 1:11, 2:20, 3:2, 3:18. Standard and shared across all Ukrainian Christian traditions; must be capitalized consistently as a divine title throughout the book.
Knowledge Full
Approved rendering: (повне) пізнання
Transliteration: (povne) piznannya
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: ἐπίγνωσις
Category: Sanctification
New term (ἐπίγνωσις). 1:2, 1:3, 1:8, 2:20. Ukrainian has no morphological way to mark the Greek compound intensification as cleanly as English’s ‘full knowledge’ vs. ‘knowledge’; the distinction from знання must be carried by explicit exposition, since Ukrainian vocabulary overlap is greater than the Greek’s.
Knowledge General
Approved rendering: знання
Transliteration: znannya
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: γνῶσις
Category: Sanctification
New term (γνῶσις). Virtue-chain item at 1:5-6 and closing exhortation at 3:18. Must be kept lexically distinguishable from пізнання wherever both appear in the same passage (1:2-8).
Lust Desire
Approved rendering: пожадливість
Transliteration: pozhadlyvist’
Doctrine: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
Original: ἐπιθυμία
Category: Sin
New term (ἐπιθυμία). Vehicle of the world’s corruption (1:4) and of the false teachers’ appeal (2:10, 2:18, 3:3); ensure consistent rendering across all four occurrences.
Virtue
Approved rendering: чеснота / доброчесність
Transliteration: chesnota / dobrochesnist’
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: ἀρετή
Category: Sanctification
New term (ἀρετή). First link of the virtue chain (1:5); also describes God’s own excellence (1:3). Must be anchored explicitly to grace, not presented as an independent self-improvement program.
Steadfastness
Approved rendering: витривалість
Transliteration: vytryvalist’
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Sanctification
New term (ὑπομονή). Fourth virtue-chain link (1:6). Must be kept lexically distinct from довготерпіння (μακροθυμία, ch.3) so ‘Growing in Christian Virtue’ and ‘Patience of God’s Timing’ remain separate, named doctrines.
Tent Tabernacle
Approved rendering: тіло (шатро)
Transliteration: tilo (shatro)
Doctrine: Apostolic Eyewitness Authority
Original: σκήνωμα
Category: Christian Identity
New term (σκήνωμα). 1:13-14. A third distinct Greek body-term alongside σάρξ and σῶμα, already flagged Critical in the Galatians baseline for their тіло-homograph collision; the literal ‘шатро’ (tent) gloss must be retained through first occurrences to keep this positive, dignified image distinct from the negative ethical ‘flesh’ sense.
Departure
Approved rendering: відхід
Transliteration: vidkhid
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Original: ἔξοδος
Category: Eschatology
New term (ἔξοδος). 1:15. A dignified euphemism for death echoing Moses’/Elijah’s Transfiguration presence (Luke 9:31); avoid capitalizing or formatting in a way that visually suggests the biblical book title Вихід.
Power
Approved rendering: сила
Transliteration: syla
Doctrine: The Certainty of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: енергія
Original: δύναμις
Category: Christology
New term (δύναμις). 1:16. Christ’s own might, displayed fully at his return; follows the сила Божа pattern, avoiding енергія.
Majesty
Approved rendering: величність / велич
Transliteration: velychnist’ / velych
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: μεγαλειότης
Category: Christology
New term (μεγαλειότης). 1:16. A distinct Greek word from δόξα (glory, v.17); must be kept lexically distinct from слава so v.16’s ‘majesty’ and v.17’s ‘glory’ remain distinguishable.
Holy Mountain
Approved rendering: свята гора
Transliteration: svyata hora
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Original: ἅγιον ὄρος
Category: Scripture
New term (ἅγιον ὄρος). 1:18. Reuses baseline святий; brief gloss advisable vs. modern pilgrimage-site associations (e.g. Pochaiv, Sviatohirsk).
Carried Along
Approved rendering: несені / принесений
Transliteration: neseni / prynesenyy
Doctrine: The Reliability and Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: надихнені (too weak alone — softens the vivid active-carrying image into generic ‘inspired/motivated’)
Original: φερόμενοι / ἐνεχθείσης
Category: Scripture
New term (φερόμενοι / ἐνεχθείσης). Peter deliberately links the divine voice he personally witnessed (1:17-18) to the divine origin of all prophecy (1:21) through this shared verb; translators should echo the same Ukrainian verb root (нести/принести) at all three occurrences to preserve the rhetorical linkage.
False Prophets
Approved rendering: лжепророки
Transliteration: lzheproroky
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: ψευδοπροφῆται
Category: False Teaching
New term (ψευδοπροφῆται), following the established лже- productive prefix convention (cf. лжебрати). 2:1. Must not be softened into merely ‘mistaken’ teachers.
False Teachers
Approved rendering: лжеучителі
Transliteration: lzheuchyteli
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: ψευδοδιδάσκαλοι
Category: False Teaching
New term (ψευδοδιδάσκαλοι), a NT coinage occurring only at 2:1. Peter’s charge is deliberate deception, not honest error.
Bought
Approved rendering: викупив
Transliteration: vykupyv
Doctrine: Salvation and Its Certainty
Original: ἀγοράσαντα
Category: Salvation
New term (ἀγοράσαντα). 2:1. Commercial redemption-purchase imagery; keep lexically distinct from спасіння as the specific transactional metaphor Peter uses.
Destruction Perdition
Approved rendering: загибель / погибель
Transliteration: zahybel’ / pohybel’
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: ἀπώλεια
Category: Judgment
New term (ἀπώλεια). 2:1, 2:3. Standard vocabulary; keep distinct from суд (κρίσις, the judicial process) as the outcome/result term.
Judgment
Approved rendering: суд
Transliteration: sud
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord and Final Judgment
Original: κρίσις
Category: Judgment
New term (κρίσις). 2:3-4, 2:9, 3:7. Ensure consistent use across chapters 2 and 3 to preserve the book’s argument that present false-teacher judgment previews the final Day of the Lord.
Tartarus
Approved rendering: Тартар
Transliteration: Tartar
Doctrine: Old Testament Precedents of Judgment and Preservation
Original: Τάρταρος
Category: Judgment
New term (Τάρταρος), a transliterated proper noun borrowed from Greek mythology, occurring only here in the NT (2:4). Requires a brief explanatory gloss clarifying this denotes divinely appointed confinement, not an endorsement of Greek cosmology.
Preacher Of Righteousness
Approved rendering: проповідник праведності
Transliteration: propovidnyk pravednosti
Doctrine: Old Testament Precedents of Judgment and Preservation
Original: δικαιοσύνης κῆρυξ
Category: False Teaching

Sensuality Debauchery
Approved rendering: розпуста
Transliteration: rozpusta
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: ἀσέλγεια
Category: Sin
New term (ἀσέλγεια). 2:2, 2:7, 2:18. Ensure consistent rendering across all three occurrences.
Dominion Authority
Approved rendering: начальства / панування
Transliteration: nachal’stva / panuvannya
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: κυριότης
Category: False Teaching
New term (κυριότης). 2:10. Grounded Ukrainian risk: given the baseline’s already-flagged sensitivity around ‘government/authority’ vocabulary (Romans 13, acute wartime context), translators must ensure this cosmic/angelic referent is not misheard as commentary on human civil or ecclesiastical authority; a clarifying gloss on first occurrence is advisable.
Blaspheme
Approved rendering: зневажати / хулити
Transliteration: znevazhaty / khulyty
Doctrine: False Teachers and Their Judgment
Original: βλασφημέω
Category: False Teaching
New term (βλασφημέω). 2:10, 2:12. Standard vocabulary; ensure register matches the seriousness of the charge.

Approved rendering: покаяння
Transliteration: pokayannya
Doctrine: Patience of God’s Timing
Original: μετάνοια
Category: Salvation
New term (μετάνοια). 3:9. Standard and well-established across all Ukrainian Christian traditions; should be explicitly anchored to a decisive turning grounded in Christ’s work, not merely ritual confession/penance practice as popularly understood.
Twist
Approved rendering: перекручують
Transliteration: perekruchuyut’
Doctrine: Canon Consciousness and Apostolic Scripture
Original: στρεβλόω
Category: Scripture
New term (στρεβλόω, literally ‘to torture on a rack’). 3:16. Describes deliberate misinterpretation, not honest misunderstanding, of Paul’s letters as Scripture.
Firmness Stability
Approved rendering: твердість / стійкість

Fellowship
Approved rendering: спілкування
Transliteration: spilkuvannya
Doctrine: Divine Nature and Escaping Corruption
Rejected alternatives: дружба, колектив (avoid Soviet-collective connotation)
Inherited from Romans package. Shares the κοινωνία word-family root with κοινωνοί (‘partakers,’ 1:4), though the latter is rendered separately (спільники/учасники) to avoid the distinct Eucharistic homograph risk documented under the partakers entry.
Self Control
Approved rendering: стриманість
Transliteration: strymanist’
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue
Original: ἐγκράτεια
Category: Sanctification
New term (ἐγκράτεια). Third link of the virtue chain (1:6); standard, low-ambiguity vocabulary.

Transliteration: bratolyubstvo
Doctrine: Growing in Christian Virtue

Category: Sanctification
New term (φιλαδελφία). Sixth virtue-chain link (1:7); standard, unambiguous vocabulary.
