09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — 1 Corinthians
Methodology and Scope
This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation and allusion occurring in 1 Corinthians 1–16, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every substantive parallel to the Romans curriculum already resident in the Arabic Language Package. Citations use normalizable English-style references (e.g., “1 Corinthians 15:3”, “Isaiah 53:5”, “Genesis 2:24”) so they can be mapped programmatically in Phase 2. Arabic book-name rendering follows the Van Dyck/NAV convention already established in the baseline (12_ai_translation_requirements.md, Cross-Reference Preservation Rules); this document extends that book-name list to the additional Old Testament books first quoted in this curriculum (see Addendum, §5).
Translation sensitivity ratings use the same Critical/High/Medium/Low framework as the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json and reflect risk specifically at the point of quotation or allusion, which may differ from the risk rating of the underlying doctrine already recorded in 08_core_glossary.md.
Every chapter of 1 Corinthians is represented below, including chapters with no direct Old Testament citation (chapters 4, 7, 12, 13, 16), which are noted explicitly per the full-coverage mandate.

2. Dedicated Note: 1 Corinthians 8:4-6 and the Shema
1 Corinthians 8:4-6 is the single most theologically loaded Old Testament allusion in the letter for the destination culture. Paul directly echoes the Shema of Deuteronomy 6:4 (“Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one”), the foundational Jewish (and, in adapted form, foundational Islamic) monotheistic confession — the Shema’s declaration of God’s uncompromised oneness is the closest OT parallel to the shahada’s tawhid claim available anywhere in Scripture. Paul does not weaken or qualify this monotheism; he expands it to include the Lord Jesus Christ as the one through whom “all things” exist (8:6), placing Christ inside the identity of the one God rather than beside or beneath it.
This passage must be handled with the same weight the baseline assigns to Romans 10:9 and the “Lord”/“Son of God” glossary entries: it is doctrinally correct and necessary to render fully, and it is also maximally sensitive, because it appears to a Muslim-background reader to be doing the opposite of what a monotheistic confession should do (multiplying, rather than singularly affirming, divine identity). Translators must not soften “one Lord, Jesus Christ” toward a merely honorific reading, and must not translate 8:4’s “there is no God but one” using phrasing that echoes the shahada’s exact cadence (لا إله إلا الله) in a way that would make the verse read as a bare restatement of Islamic tawhid without its Christological completion in 8:6. The two half-verses must be taught as a single unit.
Translation sensitivity: Critical. Route to human theologian review, every occurrence, per the baseline’s escalation rule for Deity of Christ and Lordship of Christ material.

4. Parallels to the Romans Curriculum
Because this Arabic Language Package is shared across curricula, the following 1 Corinthians passages require rendering that is checked against, and in some cases must be made verbatim identical to, existing Romans translations already fixed in translation_memory.json.
