Cross-Reference Analysis
09 — Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis: Revelation, Full Book
Purpose and Method
This document traces every Old Testament quotation and allusion in Revelation 1–22, identifies every messianic reference and typological pattern, and cross-references the curriculum against the Romans Language Package baseline — the only other curriculum currently translated in this language pair. Its purpose is to give Phase 2 translators a single lookup table so that (a) OT material quoted or echoed in Revelation is rendered consistently with any existing Arabic Bible convention, and (b) doctrinal vocabulary shared between Romans and Revelation is never rendered with two different Arabic terms for the same underlying reality.
Revelation quotes the Old Testament less often as verbatim formula-citation (unlike Romans, which frequently uses explicit “as it is written” citation formulas) and far more often through dense, cumulative allusion — entire visions built from the vocabulary of Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Zechariah, and Exodus without a citation marker. Every allusion below is therefore flagged as either Direct Quotation, Clear Allusion (verbal/structural echo scholarly consensus recognizes), or Typological Pattern (a structural correspondence rather than a verbal echo).
PART A — OT Quotation and Allusion Matrix, Chapter by Chapter
Chapter 1
| Revelation Passage | Theme | Related Character/Type | OT Connection | Connection Type | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 1:4-5 | Divine eternity | God | Exodus 3:14 (“I AM WHO I AM”) | Clear Allusion (“who is and who was and who is to come”) | Must preserve the tri-temporal divine self-existence formula; do not collapse to a simple “eternal” adjective that loses the Exodus 3:14 echo. |
| Revelation 1:5-6 | Priesthood of believers | Israel/Church | Exodus 19:6 (“a kingdom of priests”) | Clear Allusion | Reuse ملكوت الله (baseline) framing; “priests” (كهنة) is new vocabulary — must not imply a mediating clerical class distinct from the priesthood of all believers. |
| Revelation 1:7 | Return of Christ, universal recognition | Christ, “those who pierced him” | Daniel 7:13 (coming with the clouds); Zechariah 12:10 (mourning for the pierced one) | Direct Quotation (composite) | Zechariah 12:10 is also applied to Christ’s crucifixion in John 19:37; render consistently with any Arabic Gospel-of-John convention for “pierced” (طعنوه/ثقبوه) if the destination platform has an established Gospel translation memory. |
| Revelation 1:8 | Sovereignty of God over History | God (Pantokrator) | Isaiah 44:6; Isaiah 48:12 (First and Last) | Clear Allusion | See 08_core_glossary #9; الألف والياء/الأول والآخر — Critical, must never soften. |
| Revelation 1:12-16 | Christophany | Christ as glorified Son of Man | Daniel 7:9, 13 (Ancient of Days / Son of Man features merged); Daniel 10:5-6 (robe, sash, eyes, feet, voice); Ezekiel 1:24, 26-28 (voice like many waters, throne-appearance) | Clear Allusion (composite vision) | This composite vision fuses Ancient-of-Days and Son-of-Man imagery onto Christ — a deliberate deity claim; teach as intentional fusion, not confusion, of the two Daniel figures. |
| Revelation 1:16 | Word as instrument of judgment | Christ | Isaiah 49:2 (mouth like a sharp sword) | Clear Allusion | Ties to Word of God title (Revelation 19:13, كلمة الله, Critical). |
| Revelation 1:17-18 | Resurrection victory | Christ, “the Living One” | (typological continuation of Isaiah 44:6/48:12 self-titles) | Clear Allusion | See baseline resurrection_of_christ Critical note — requires crucifixion-affirmation scaffolding before this verse has referential force. |
Chapters 2–3 (Letters to the Seven Churches)
| Revelation Passage | Theme | Related Character/Type | OT Connection | Connection Type | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 2:7 | Restoration of Eden | The overcomer | Genesis 2:9; Genesis 3:22-24 (tree of life, guarded/withheld) | Typological Pattern | First mention of a tree withheld in Genesis now offered as reward — teach the reversal explicitly. |
| Revelation 2:17 | Hidden provision | The overcomer | Exodus 16:32-34 (manna kept before the LORD) | Clear Allusion | ”Hidden manna” (منّ خفي) — low collision risk, positive image. |
| Revelation 2:17 | New identity | The overcomer | Isaiah 62:2; Isaiah 65:15 (new name) | Clear Allusion | |
| Revelation 2:26-27 | Messianic authority | The overcomer, sharing Christ’s reign | Psalm 2:8-9 (rod of iron, dashing nations) | Direct Quotation | Psalm 2 recurs at Revelation 12:5; 19:15 — render the “rod of iron” phrase (بقضيب من حديد) identically at all three occurrences. |
| Revelation 2:28 | Messianic hope | Christ | Numbers 24:17 (a star shall come out of Jacob) | Clear Allusion | Anticipates 22:16 “morning star” — keep vocabulary aligned. |
| Revelation 3:5 | Preservation of the redeemed | God, the overcomer | Exodus 32:32-33; Daniel 12:1 (book/names written) | Clear Allusion | First occurrence of the Book of Life motif — see baseline Critical note (08_core_glossary #46) on distinguishing from the Islamic deeds-register. |
| Revelation 3:7 | Messianic authority (Davidic) | Christ | Isaiah 22:22 (key of the house of David) | Direct Quotation | See داود baseline reuse; teach the Davidic-covenant fulfillment explicitly, per baseline caution that the Quranic Dawud lacks this typology. |
| Revelation 3:9 | Vindication of the faithful | The persecuted church | Isaiah 60:14 (nations bow at your feet) | Clear Allusion | Reapplied from Israel’s future vindication to the persecuted church — a redemptive-historical extension that should be taught, not left implicit. |
| Revelation 3:12 | New Jerusalem | God, the overcomer | Ezekiel 40–48 (temple-city vision) | Typological Pattern | First mention of “new Jerusalem,” fully developed at Revelation 21:2, 9-27; see أورشليم الجديدة, High risk. |
| Revelation 3:14 | Christ’s trustworthiness | Christ (“the Amen”) | Isaiah 65:16 (the God of truth/Amen) | Clear Allusion | Compounds آمين (baseline) with الأمين والصادق (High risk — see 08_core_glossary #16 on the Muhammad-epithet caution). |
| Revelation 3:19 | Fatherly discipline | God, the church | Proverbs 3:11-12 (the LORD disciplines those he loves) | Clear Allusion | Low risk; standard wisdom-tradition echo. |
Chapters 4–5 (Throne-Room Vision)
| Revelation Passage | Theme | Related Character/Type | OT Connection | Connection Type | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 4:1-2 | Heavenly ascent/vision | John | Ezekiel 1:1 (heavens opened); 1 Kings 22:19 | Clear Allusion | |
| Revelation 4:3 | Divine glory | God on the throne | Ezekiel 1:28 (rainbow-like appearance) | Clear Allusion | |
| Revelation 4:6-8 | Worship of God | Four living creatures | Ezekiel 1:5-10; Ezekiel 10:14 (four faces: man, lion, ox, eagle); Isaiah 6:2-3 (seraphim, “holy, holy, holy”) | Direct Quotation (Isaiah 6:3) + Clear Allusion (Ezekiel) | The threefold “holy” is a direct quotation of Isaiah 6:3; render مقدس consistently with baseline (High risk, ق-د-س root shared with al-Quddus). |
| Revelation 4:9-11 | Sovereignty of God over History | Twenty-four elders | (typological — royal submission/casting down crowns; cf. 2 Kings, ANE vassal-treaty imagery) | Typological Pattern | |
| Revelation 5:1 | Sealed divine plan | God, the scroll | Ezekiel 2:9-10 (scroll written within and without); Daniel 12:4 (seal the book until the end) | Clear Allusion | See “seal” root note (08_core_glossary #25); this is the judgment-progression sense, distinct from the protection-seal sense in ch. 7. |
| Revelation 5:5 | Messianic Promise | Christ | Genesis 49:9-10 (Lion of Judah, scepter); Isaiah 11:1, 10 (Root of David/Jesse) | Direct Quotation (composite title) | “Lion of the tribe of Judah” and “Root of David” (أسد سبط يهوذا، أصل داود) — Critical messianic titles; must never be softened to a generic royal-lineage description. |
| Revelation 5:6 | Worship of the Lamb; Atonement | Christ (the Lamb, slain) | Isaiah 53:7 (lamb led to slaughter, silent); Zechariah 4:10 (seven eyes) | Clear Allusion | Grounds الخروف/مذبوح in Isaiah’s Suffering Servant — the same OT text Romans 10:16 quotes (“Lord, who has believed our report?”, Isaiah 53:1). This is the key cross-curriculum link between Revelation’s Lamb Christology and Romans’ Servant-based gospel proclamation; render the underlying Isaiah 53 vocabulary (ذُبح، حمل الخطية) consistently if it appears in both curricula’s supporting citations. |
| Revelation 5:9-10 | New Song, redemption, universal scope | The redeemed | Psalm 33:3; Psalm 96:1 (“sing a new song”); Exodus 19:6 (kingdom of priests) | Clear Allusion | Parallels baseline’s Universal Scope of the Gospel (High) doctrine; “every tribe and tongue and people and nation” anticipates Revelation 7:9 and parallels Romans 3:29-30; 10:12. |
Chapter 6
| Revelation Passage | Theme | Related Character/Type | OT Connection | Connection Type | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 6:1-8 | Sovereignty of God over History | Four horsemen | Zechariah 1:8-11; Zechariah 6:1-8 (colored horses/chariots as agents of God’s judgment) | Clear Allusion | Horsemen act only within limits God permits — reinforce as instruments under sovereignty, not independent chaos-forces. |
| Revelation 6:9-11 | Vindication of the Saints | Martyred souls | Psalm 79:5, 10; Zechariah 1:12 (“How long, O Lord?”) | Clear Allusion | See شهادة/martyrdom caution (08_core_glossary #2-3); the cry for justice is answered, not ignored, by God’s sovereignty over the timing of judgment. |
| Revelation 6:12-14 | Judgment of the Wicked (Day of the LORD imagery) | Cosmic order | Isaiah 13:10; Isaiah 34:4; Joel 2:10, 31; Ezekiel 32:7-8 | Clear Allusion (composite Day-of-the-LORD language) | Standard prophetic cosmic-collapse idiom; teach as symbolic apocalyptic register (see Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine), not literal astronomy. |
| Revelation 6:15-16 | Terror before divine wrath | The wicked | Isaiah 2:10, 19; Hosea 10:8 (“fall on us, hide us”) | Clear Allusion | Reinforces غضب الله (High risk, baseline-extension term); personal, righteous wrath, not impersonal catastrophe. |

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 7:1-8 | Sovereignty and protection | The 144,000 | Ezekiel 9:4-6 (mark on the foreheads of the faithful before judgment falls) | Clear Allusion | See “seal” ownership/protection sense; distinguish from ch. 5’s judgment-progression seal. |
| Revelation 7:9-10 | Universal Scope; Worship of the Lamb | The great multitude | (typological, not a single citation — echoes 5:9’s “every tribe/tongue/people/nation”) | Typological Pattern | |
| Revelation 7:9 | Feast of Booths imagery | The redeemed with palm branches | Leviticus 23:40 (palm branches at the Feast of Booths) | Clear Allusion | |
| Revelation 7:16-17 | Assurance of Final Victory | God/the Lamb as shepherd | Isaiah 49:10 (no hunger, no thirst, no scorching heat); Isaiah 25:8 (God will wipe away tears); Psalm 23:1-2; Ezekiel 34:23 (shepherd) | Direct Quotation (Isaiah 25:8) + Clear Allusion | Isaiah 25:8 is quoted again, more fully, at Revelation 21:4 — render “wipe away every tear” (يمسح كل دمعة) identically at both occurrences; this repetition is deliberate and must not be varied stylistically. |
Chapters 8–9 (Trumpets)
| Revelation Passage | Theme | Related Character/Type | OT Connection | Connection Type | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 8:5, 7 | Judgment (Exodus pattern) | God’s judgment on creation | Exodus 9:23-24 (hail and fire); Exodus 19:16-19 (thunder, lightning, trumpet at Sinai) | Typological Pattern | The whole trumpet sequence deliberately re-enacts the Exodus plague pattern — teach this explicitly as “new Exodus” typology (see 10_biblical_theme_map.md). |
| Revelation 8:8-9 | Judgment | Sea to blood | Exodus 7:20-21 (Nile turned to blood) | Clear Allusion | |

| Revelation 9:13-19 | Judgment | Army from the Euphrates | (typological — invasion-from-the-east oracles, Isaiah/Jeremiah pattern) | Typological Pattern |

| Revelation 10:9-10 | Prophetic commissioning | John | Ezekiel 2:8–3:3 (eat the scroll, sweet as honey) | Direct Quotation (structural) | Reinforces inspiration_of_scripture doctrine; distinguish from waḥy (verbatim-dictation revelation) per baseline caution — this is a call-narrative pattern, not a claim of new supplementary law. |
Chapter 11
| Revelation Passage | Theme | Related Character/Type | OT Connection | Connection Type | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 11:1-2 | Measuring the temple | John | Ezekiel 40:3 (measuring rod, temple vision) | Clear Allusion | |

| Revelation 11:5-6 | Prophetic power | The two witnesses | Exodus 7 (Moses: water to blood); 1 Kings 17:1 and 2 Kings 1:10 (Elijah: withholding rain, fire from heaven) | Typological Pattern (Moses/Elijah typology) | The two witnesses are deliberately patterned on Moses and Elijah — teach this composite typology explicitly; ties to Judgment of the Wicked and Perseverance doctrines. |
| Revelation 11:8-12 | Vindication of the Saints | The two witnesses, killed then raised | (typological — resurrection-vindication pattern, cf. Ezekiel 37 dry bones; structurally mirrors Christ’s own death/resurrection) | Typological Pattern | Requires baseline resurrection apologetic scaffolding; this is the clearest narrative dramatization of Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints in the whole book. |
| Revelation 11:15 | Sovereignty of God over History; Return and Reign of Christ | God and his Christ | Psalm 2:2 (kings of the earth against the LORD and his Anointed); Daniel 2:44; Daniel 7:14 (everlasting kingdom given) | Direct Quotation (Psalm 2) + Clear Allusion (Daniel) | Critical — see 08_core_glossary #33; must be taught jointly with baseline’s lordship_of_christ and messianic_promise notes. |
| Revelation 11:19 | Covenant faithfulness | The ark of the covenant seen in heaven | Exodus 25:10-22 (ark of the covenant) | Clear Allusion | Ties to baseline العهد (Medium); the ark’s appearance signals God’s covenant faithfulness now consummated. |

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 12:1 | The covenant people | Woman clothed with sun, moon, stars | Genesis 37:9-10 (Joseph’s dream: sun, moon, eleven stars) | Clear Allusion | |
| Revelation 12:3-4, 9 | Cosmic conflict; Sovereignty of God over History | The dragon | Genesis 3:1, 14-15 (“the ancient serpent”; enmity with the woman’s offspring) | Direct Quotation (“ancient serpent”) + Typological Pattern (protoevangelium) | Key cross-curriculum link: Romans 16:20 (“the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet,” Romans 16:20) is itself an allusion to Genesis 3:15; Revelation 12 narrates the full unfolding of that same promise. Arabic rendering of “crush/defeat” vocabulary in Romans 16:20 and the dragon’s defeat language here (see Revelation 12:9-11) should be reviewed together for consistency; both curricula are drawing on a single OT thread. |
| Revelation 12:5 | Messianic Promise | The male child | Psalm 2:9 (rod of iron) | Direct Quotation | See ch. 2:26-27 note; render identically across all three occurrences (2:26-27; 12:5; 19:15). |

| Revelation 12:9-11 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness; Assurance of Final Victory | The redeemed, the dragon | (typological summary of the whole book’s victory-pattern) | Typological Pattern | ”They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” — the interpretive key anchoring all ὁ νικῶν/overcomer language against a violence-reading (see 08_core_glossary #21). |
| Revelation 12:14 | Divine protection in the wilderness | The woman | Exodus 19:4 (eagle’s wings imagery); Deuteronomy 32:10-11 | Clear Allusion |

| Revelation 22:1-2 | The New Heaven and New Earth | River and tree of life | Ezekiel 47:1-12 (river flowing from the temple, healing trees); Genesis 2:9-10 (Eden’s river and tree of life) | Direct Quotation (Ezekiel) + Typological Pattern (Eden restored) | |
| Revelation 22:3 | Assurance of Final Victory | Removal of the curse | Genesis 3:17-19 (the curse pronounced); Zechariah 14:11 (“there shall be no more curse”) | Direct Quotation | See اللعنة High-risk note; ties directly to baseline’s sin doctrine (fitrah caution). |
| Revelation 22:4 | Worship; unmediated presence | The redeemed | Numbers 6:24-27 (priestly blessing, God’s name/face); contrast with Exodus 33:20 (Moses could not see God’s face and live) | Typological Pattern (reversal) | Teach the deliberate reversal: what was withheld even from Moses is now given to all the redeemed — a significant apologetic point about the finality and completeness of the new-creation promise. |
| Revelation 22:5 | The New Heaven and New Earth | Unending light/day | Isaiah 60:19-20; Zechariah 14:7 (continuous day) | Direct Quotation | Second occurrence — see note at Revelation 21:23-25 above; render identically. |
| Revelation 22:12 | Return and Reign of Christ | Christ’s imminent return, reward | Isaiah 40:10; Isaiah 62:11 (“his reward is with him”) | Direct Quotation | |
| Revelation 22:13 | Sovereignty of God over History; Deity of Christ | Christ (Alpha/Omega, First/Last, Beginning/End) | Isaiah 44:6; Isaiah 48:12 | Direct Quotation | Applies the divine self-title of Revelation 1:8 and 21:6 directly to Christ — the book’s climactic deity claim; see Critical note at 08_core_glossary #9. |
| Revelation 22:14-15 | Judgment of the Wicked | Vice list, “wash their robes” | Isaiah 1:18 (invitation to cleansing); echoes Revelation 21:8’s vice list | Clear Allusion (internal + external) | |
| Revelation 22:16 | Messianic Promise | Christ (“root and offspring of David… morning star”) | Isaiah 11:1, 10; Numbers 24:17 | Direct Quotation | Ties the Davidic-covenant and messianic-star threads together at the book’s close; consistent with نسل داود baseline reuse. |
| Revelation 22:17 | Assurance of Final Victory; grace | The Spirit and the Bride | Isaiah 55:1 (“come… take the water of life freely”) | Direct Quotation | Same δωρεάν/بلا ثمن link as Revelation 21:6 and Romans 3:24 — render identically. |
| Revelation 22:18-19 | Inspiration and integrity of Scripture | The book’s own warning | Deuteronomy 4:2; Deuteronomy 12:32 (“do not add to or take away from the word”) | Direct Quotation (formula) | Applies the Torah’s own canonical-integrity warning to Revelation itself — reinforces inspiration_of_scripture doctrine against any tahrif-style corruption claim; teach explicitly. |
| Revelation 22:20 | Return and Reign of Christ | The Church’s closing prayer | (Aramaic “Maranatha,” cf. 1 Corinthians 16:22) | Clear Allusion (liturgical formula, cross-NT) | “Come, Lord Jesus” — Critical; render with the same non-negotiable consistency the baseline requires for Romans 10:9. |
| Revelation 22:21 | Grace | The book’s closing benediction | (typological — Pauline epistolary grace-benediction form, e.g. Romans 16:20’s own closing grace-benediction) | Typological Pattern | See Part C below for the direct Romans 16:20 parallel. |

| Danielic Beast-Empires | Daniel 2, 7 | The Beast (ch. 13) is a composite of all four of Daniel’s empire-beasts, the final embodiment of God-opposing power | Judgment of the Wicked; Return and Reign of Christ |
PART D — Parallels to the Romans Language Package (Cross-Curriculum)
| Romans Baseline Doctrine/Passage | Revelation Passage(s) | Nature of Parallel | Rendering-Consistency Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Justification/imputed righteousness (Romans 3:21-26; 4:3) | Revelation 7:14 (“washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb”) | Standing before God credited through Christ’s blood, never self-achieved | Reuse البر المحسوب framework; never render Revelation 7:14 with self-purification vocabulary (parallel to the baseline’s rejection of التزكية) |
| Grace given freely, apart from merit (Romans 3:24; 4:4-5; 11:5-6) | Revelation 21:6; 22:17 (“water of life… freely,” δωρεάν) | Same Greek word (δωρεάν) in both Romans 3:24 and Revelation 21:6/22:17 | Render مجانًا/بلا ثمن identically in both curricula’s citation apparatus wherever δωρεάν appears |
| Wrath of God revealed (Romans 1:18; 2:5) | Revelation 6:16-17; 14:10, 19; 16:1; 19:15 (غضب الله/الخروف) | Personal, righteous divine response to sin, not impersonal retribution | Reuse baseline’s wrath-of-God framing; extend identically to “wrath of the Lamb” |
| Universal human accountability (Romans 1:18-3:20; 3:23) | Revelation 20:12-13 (books opened, judged according to deeds) | All humanity stands accountable before God | Reuse baseline’s fitrah-collision caution; teach the Book of Life/deeds-books distinction alongside |
| Adoption into God’s family (Romans 8:15-17) | Revelation 21:7 (“I will be his God, and he will be my son”) | Full son-status and inheritance conferred, not partial/provisional | Reuse التبني/يرث framework and Q33:4-5 caution; distinguish believer’s “ابنًا” from Christ’s unique “ابن الله” |
| Lordship of Christ (Romans 10:9) | Revelation 19:16; 22:20 (“King of kings and Lord of lords”; “Come, Lord Jesus”) | Unqualified, exclusive divine Lordship confessed of Christ | Reuse الرب Critical framework; render with the same non-negotiable consistency across both curricula |
| Resurrection of Christ (Romans 1:4; 4:25; 6:4-5) | Revelation 1:5, 18; 11:11; 20:4-6 | Historical, bodily resurrection as the ground of hope | Reuse baseline’s crucifixion-affirmation apologetic scaffolding at every occurrence |
| Creation’s future liberation (Romans 8:19-22, “the whole creation groans… will be set free”) | Revelation 21:1 (“a new heaven and a new earth”) | Shared cosmic-renewal eschatology; Romans anticipates what Revelation depicts as accomplished | Teach the two passages together as promise and fulfillment; consistent جديد/renewal vocabulary |
| Assurance of salvation (Romans 8:1, 28-39) | Revelation 21:3-4 (no more death, mourning, crying, pain); 20:4-6 | Confident, present-tense security, not a probabilistic Judgment-Day-pending outcome | Reuse baseline’s assurance_of_salvation Critical framework precisely |
| Election/sovereign choice (Romans 9:11-13; 11:5-7) | Revelation 13:8; 17:8 (names “written in the book of life from the foundation of the world”) | God’s sovereign, particular, pre-temporal choice | Reuse اختيار الله High-risk framework; guard against folk-qadar fatalism collapse in both curricula |
| Unity of Jews and Gentiles; Israel’s place in God’s plan (Romans 9-11) | Revelation 7:4-9 (144,000 tribes + innumerable multitude); 21:12-14 (twelve tribes/twelve apostles) | Continuity and fulfillment of the one covenant people across both testaments | Reuse إسرائيل High-risk political-sensitivity caution; teach both passages as symbolic-covenantal completeness, not a literal census or contemporary political statement |
| Perseverance under suffering (Romans 5:3-5; 8:35-39) | Revelation 2:10; 6:9-11; 12:11 | Faithful endurance vindicated, not abandoned, by God | Consistent الضيق/شهادة vocabulary; anchor both to the “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37) / “they overcame” (Revelation 12:11) victory-through-suffering pattern |
| Serpent crushed underfoot (Romans 16:20) | Revelation 12:7-11; 20:1-3, 10 | Direct shared allusion to Genesis 3:15 | Cross-check Arabic rendering of “crush/defeat Satan” vocabulary in Romans 16:20 against the dragon-defeat vocabulary here for consistency of the underlying Genesis 3:15 thread |
| Closing grace benediction (Romans 16:20, 24) | Revelation 22:21 (“the grace of the Lord Jesus be with all”) | Shared Pauline/apostolic epistolary closing form | Reuse النعمة High-risk framework; consistent benediction register |
PART E — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations
- Isaiah 25:8 (“wipe away every tear”) — occurs partially at Revelation 7:17 and fully at Revelation 21:4. Render identically: يمسح كل دمعة من عيونهم.
- Isaiah 44:6/48:12 (Alpha and Omega/First and Last) — occurs at Revelation 1:8, 1:17, 21:6, and 22:13, the last applying it directly to Christ. Render الألف والياء / الأول والآخر identically at every occurrence; never vary the wording between the God-referent and Christ-referent occurrences, since the identity of the title across both is the doctrinal point.
- Psalm 2:9 (rod of iron) — occurs at Revelation 2:26-27, 12:5, and 19:15. Render بقضيب من حديد identically at all three.
- Deuteronomy 10:17/Daniel 2:47 (“Lord of lords, King of kings”) — occurs at Revelation 17:14 and 19:16. Render مَلِك الملوك ورَبُّ الأرباب identically at both.
- Isaiah 21:9/Jeremiah 51:8 (“Babylon is fallen”) — occurs at Revelation 14:8 and 18:2. Render سقطت، سقطت بابل العظيمة identically at both.
- Isaiah 60:19-20 (“no need of sun”) — occurs at Revelation 21:23 and 22:5. Render لا حاجة إلى شمس identically at both; anchor firmly in المجد (God’s radiant presence) per baseline caution against Sufi ishrāq mysticism.
- δωρεάν (“freely/without price”) — occurs at Revelation 21:6 and 22:17, and is the identical Greek word used in Romans 3:24. Render مجانًا / بلا ثمن identically across both curricula’s citation apparatus; this is the single clearest lexical bridge between the Romans and Revelation Language Packages and must not be allowed to drift into two different Arabic renderings.
- Genesis 3:15 (serpent-crushing protoevangelium) — echoed in Romans 16:20 and narratively fulfilled in Revelation 12 and 20. While not a verbatim shared citation, the underlying defeat-of-Satan vocabulary in both curricula’s Arabic renderings should be reviewed together so a learner moving between Romans and Revelation recognizes the single continuous promise.
- Isaiah 53 (Suffering Servant) — quoted directly in Romans 10:16 (Isaiah 53:1) and echoed throughout Revelation’s Lamb Christology (5:6, 12; 13:8). The Arabic vocabulary for the Servant’s suffering (ذُبح, حمل, صمت) should remain consistent between the Romans citation and any Revelation footnoting that draws the connection explicitly.
- 2 Samuel 7:14 (Davidic sonship formula, “I will be his father, he will be my son”) — echoed in Revelation 21:7 and in the background of Romans 8:15-17’s adoption doctrine (though not directly cited in Romans). Ensure the individual believer’s “ابنًا” in Revelation 21:7 is never rendered so as to compete with or dilute ابن الله (Christ’s unique Sonship) — this is the same distinction the baseline draws for Romans 8 and must be applied consistently here.
- Ezekiel’s covenant formula (“I will be their God, and they will be my people”) — recurs across Leviticus 26:12, Jeremiah 31:33, Ezekiel 37:27, Zechariah 2:10-11, and climactically at Revelation 21:3. Render the formula with the same fixed Arabic wording at every occurrence within Revelation materials so its cumulative, climactic force across the whole canon is visible to the reader.
PART F — Chapter Coverage Confirmation
Every chapter of Revelation (1–22) has been reviewed for OT quotation, allusion, messianic reference, and typological pattern above. No chapter is silently omitted; chapters without independent new material (e.g., portions of chs. 2-3, 8-9, 15-16) are explicitly noted above as extending patterns established elsewhere, consistent with the coverage method of 08_core_glossary.md.
This document extends, and never contradicts, 07_semantic_analysis.md, 08_core_glossary.md, and the baseline Romans translation_memory.json/bible_term_registry.json/doctrine_risk_registry.json. See 10_biblical_theme_map.md for the thematic structure this cross-reference data supports.
