Cross-Reference Analysis
09 Cross-Reference Analysis — Colossians (English → Arabic)
Methodology
This analysis catalogs every Old Testament quotation, allusion, and typological echo in Colossians 1–4, together with New Testament parallels — with special attention to the Romans Language Package, since Romans is the only other curriculum currently established in this Arabic Language Package and its renderings are the enforced baseline. Colossians is structurally unusual among Paul’s letters: it contains no formula-introduced OT quotations (“as it is written,” “the scripture says”) of the kind that dominate Romans’ argumentation. Its OT relationship is instead carried almost entirely through allusion, echo, and typology — a fact with its own translation-planning consequence, noted in §5 below.
Citation format used in this document: normalized English style, Book Chapter:Verse (e.g. “Genesis 15:6”, “Romans 11:36”), per PRD convention. This is an internal analysis format; final Arabic-facing curriculum materials use the Van Dyck/NAV Arabic book-name and Hindu-Arabic numeral convention already fixed in the baseline requirements document (رومية, numerals ١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩). Colossians’ Arabic book name is كولوسي (Kūlūsī), fixed here for consistency across all Phase 2 documents.

1. Chapter 1 — Cross-Reference Matrix
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colossians 1:12 | Inheritance of the saints | Israel (corporate) | Allusion: Numbers 18:20; Deuteronomy 10:9; Psalm 16:5 (Levitical/covenant inheritance language); NT parallel: Acts 26:18; Ephesians 1:11 | Ties to baseline adoption doctrine (Critical) — reinforce guaranteed, already-secured inheritance against Qur’an 33:4-5’s denial of adopted-child inheritance rights. |
| Colossians 1:13 | Deliverance from darkness | Israel (Exodus generation) | Typology: Exodus 6:6, 14:30 (deliverance from Egypt/Pharaoh) | Reinforce once-for-all accomplished deliverance (baseline salvation, Critical) — not a pending, probabilistic outcome. |
| Colossians 1:13 | Kingdom of the beloved Son | David | Typology: 2 Samuel 7:12–16 (Davidic covenant); Psalm 2:7 (“You are my Son”) | Compound of baseline kingdom_of_god (Medium) and son_of_god (Critical, full phrase “ابن الله” required, no dilution). |
| Colossians 1:15a | Image of the invisible God | Adam | Typology (reversal): Genesis 1:26–27 (mankind made in God’s image); NT parallel: 2 Corinthians 4:4; John 1:18; Hebrews 1:3 | Critical. Christ is the source image the Genesis account only reflects derivatively — must not be flattened into “Christ is also made in God’s image.” See 07_semantic_analysis.md on الصورة/taṣwīr-tanzīh risk. |
| Colossians 1:15b | Firstborn of all creation | David; Israel (as “firstborn,” Exodus 4:22) | Typology: Psalm 89:27 (“I will make him my firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth”); Exodus 4:22; conceptual echo of Proverbs 8:22–25 (Wisdom “before” creation) | Critical. Rank/inheritance sense, not creaturely-first-in-sequence sense; every occurrence needs the sovereignty gloss (see baseline note; direct Qur’an 112:3 collision). |
| Colossians 1:16a | Christ as agent and goal of creation | — | Typology: Genesis 1:1; Proverbs 8:30 (Wisdom as craftsman at God’s side); John 1:3; direct structural parallel: Romans 11:36 (“for from him and through him and to him are all things”) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rendering-consistency rule R1 below — Colossians omits the “from him” (ἐξ αὐτοῦ) clause present in Romans 11:36; do not harmonize the wording, but keep the shared prepositions (به, له) rendered identically. |
| Colossians 1:16b | Rank of spiritual powers subordinated to Christ | — | NT parallel: Daniel 7:27 (background, heavenly court imagery); Ephesians 1:21, 3:10, 6:12; Romans 8:38 (“nor angels nor rulers… shall separate us”) | Medium-High. Powers cluster; see baseline assurance_of_salvation link at Romans 8:38 — both passages assert Christ’s supremacy over the same class of powers; keep العروش/السيادات/الرياسات/السلاطين consistent with any future Ephesians-curriculum rendering. |
| Colossians 1:17 | Christ before all things, sustaining all things | — | Typology: Proverbs 8:22–30; John 1:1–3; very close functional parallel: Hebrews 1:3 (“upholds the universe by the word of his power”) | Critical. See 07_semantic_analysis.md — direct collision with al-Qayyūm (Allah’s sustaining-power attribute). |
| Colossians 1:18a | Christ as head of the body, the church | — | NT parallel: 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Romans 12:4–5 (body metaphor, mutual-membership sense); Ephesians 1:22–23, 4:15–16, 5:23 | Critical. Romans 12 uses the body metaphor for mutual interdependence among members; Colossians adds the headship claim absent from Romans 12 — these are complementary, not contradictory; a teaching note should prevent Romans-trained readers from missing the added headship dimension. |
| Colossians 1:18b | Firstborn from the dead | — | Typology (reapplication of Psalm 89:27’s rank-language to resurrection); NT parallel: Acts 26:23; 1 Corinthians 15:20 (“firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” — Leviticus 23:10 firstfruits-offering typology); Revelation 1:5 | Critical. Requires the same crucifixion-historicity apologetic scaffolding as baseline resurrection_of_christ. |
| Colossians 1:19 | Fullness of God pleased to dwell in Christ | Moses (tabernacle); Solomon (temple) | Typology: Exodus 25:8, 40:34–35 (Shekinah glory filling the tabernacle); 1 Kings 8:10–11 (glory filling the temple); NT parallel: John 1:14 (“the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” — same tabernacle-typology verb) | Critical, curriculum-defining. The indwelling-presence typology (tabernacle/temple → Christ) is the single richest OT background thread in the letter; must be surfaced explicitly since it is not self-evident to a reader unfamiliar with the tabernacle narrative. |
| Colossians 1:20a | Cosmic reconciliation | — | Typology: Genesis 3:15 (protoevangelium — the promised undoing of the fall’s estrangement); Isaiah 53 (Suffering Servant’s atoning role, unnamed figure); direct parallel: Romans 5:10–11 (reconciliation vocabulary) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R2 — identical رendering of يصالح/المصالحة required across both books. |
| Colossians 1:20b | Blood of his cross | Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53, unnamed) | Typology: Isaiah 53:5, 10–12 (atoning suffering/blood); Leviticus 17:11 (blood = life, atonement principle); Exodus 12 (Passover blood, background) | Critical. Same crucifixion-historicity scaffolding as baseline resurrection note (Qur’an 4:157 denial). |
| Colossians 1:21–22 | Former alienation, now reconciled | — | Allusion: Isaiah 59:2 (sin as the cause of separation from God); parallel: Romans 5:10 (enemies reconciled) | Medium; read together with 1:20, not in isolation. |
| Colossians 1:24 | Paul’s sufferings and Christ’s afflictions | Paul; (background) Suffering Servant, Isaiah 53 | Allusion background only — no direct quotation; conceptually adjacent to Isaiah 53’s suffering-for-others pattern, reapplied missionally not atoningly | High. Must not be read as implying Christ’s atoning work (1:20) was insufficient. |
| Colossians 1:26–27 | Mystery hidden, now revealed | Daniel | Typology: Daniel 2:28–29, 47 (mystery revealed to Daniel by God); near-verbatim parallel: Romans 16:25–27 (“the mystery… kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed”) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R3 — identical phrasing required. Also touches naskh-adjacent concerns (fulfillment, not abrogation, per baseline fulfillment_of_prophecy). |
2. Chapter 2 — Cross-Reference Matrix
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colossians 2:3 | Treasures of wisdom and knowledge in Christ | Solomon (wisdom tradition) | Allusion: Isaiah 45:3 (“treasures of darkness”); Proverbs 2:3–4; NT parallel: 1 Corinthians 1:24, 30 (Christ as the wisdom of God) | Medium; connects to epignōsis/sophia risk cluster (esoteric-knowledge collision, see §07). |
| Colossians 2:9 | Fullness of Deity, bodily | Moses (tabernacle); Solomon (temple) | Same tabernacle/Shekinah typology as 1:19; NT parallel: John 1:14 | Critical — the curriculum’s single most theologically loaded phrase; see baseline incarnation forbidden-substitution rule. |
| Colossians 2:11 | Circumcision made without hands | Abraham | Typology: Genesis 17:10–14 (origin of physical circumcision as covenant sign); Deuteronomy 30:6 (“the LORD your God will circumcise your heart”); Jeremiah 4:4; direct parallel: Romans 2:28–29 (“circumcision is a matter of the heart”) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R4. Khitān is positively regarded in Islamic practice — frame carefully per 08_core_glossary.md note; do not let the passage read as either endorsing or disparaging the physical rite as such. |
| Colossians 2:12 | Buried and raised with him through faith | — | Direct structural parallel: Romans 6:3–5 (baptism as union with Christ’s death and resurrection) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R5. Requires crucifixion-historicity scaffolding (baseline resurrection). |
| Colossians 2:13 | Made alive together with him, forgiven | — | NT parallel: Ephesians 2:1, 5; Romans 6:11 (“alive to God in Christ Jesus”) | High; ties to baseline salvation and christian_identity_in_christ. |
| Colossians 2:14 | Record of debt canceled, nailed to the cross | — | Allusion: Isaiah 43:25 (“I… blot out your transgressions”); Psalm 51:1 (background) | High — contrast point with the Islamic deeds-record/ṣaḥīfah imagery (Qur’an 17:13–14; 84:7–12); the debt here is already permanently canceled, not pending a future weighing. Flag for theologian review. |
| Colossians 2:15 | Disarming and triumph over rulers and authorities | The serpent (Genesis 3); Pharaoh’s host (Exodus 14–15) | Typology: Genesis 3:15 (serpent-crushing promise); Exodus 15:1–18 (Song of Moses, victory-procession pattern); NT parallel: Psalm 68:18 as directly quoted in Ephesians 4:8 (“led captivity captive”) | Medium-High. Positive triumph-of-Christ motif; requires crucifixion-historicity scaffolding. |
| Colossians 2:16–17 | Festivals, new moons, Sabbaths as shadow | Moses (giver of the ceremonial calendar) | Typology: Leviticus 23 (feast calendar); Numbers 28–29; direct thematic parallel: Hebrews 8:5, 10:1 (law as “shadow”/“copy” of the reality) | Medium; σῶμα used in a distinct (“substance”) sense here — disambiguate from its ecclesiological use (1:18, 24). |
| Colossians 2:18 | Worship of angels warned against | — | Allusion (background concern): Deuteronomy 4:19 (warning against worship of the heavenly host) | Medium; no direct quotation, but shares the OT’s consistent concern against redirecting worship owed to God alone toward created intermediaries — a genuine point of contact with tawḥīd’s own concern, worth surfacing pastorally. |
| Colossians 2:19 | Head, body, growth | — | Same as 1:18; NT parallel: Ephesians 4:16 | Critical, same profile as 1:18. |
| Colossians 2:20–22 | Elemental spirits; human precepts and teachings | — | Direct allusion: Isaiah 29:13 (LXX: “teaching as doctrines the precepts of men”) — the same OT text Jesus quotes directly in Mark 7:7 / Matthew 15:9 | High. This is the closest thing to a genuine “quotation echo” of the OT in the entire letter (echoing a text Jesus himself quoted); worth flagging in teaching materials as a substantive OT connection despite the absence of a formal citation marker. |
| Colossians 2:23 | Self-made religion, severity to the body | — | No direct OT; general critique of human-invented ascetic systems | High; distinguish from legitimate shared devotional disciplines (fasting, zuhd) per 08_core_glossary.md note. |
3. Chapter 3 — Cross-Reference Matrix
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colossians 3:1 | Raised with Christ, seated at God’s right hand | David (Psalm author) | Direct allusion: Psalm 110:1 (“Sit at my right hand”) — quoted directly in Matthew 22:44, Acts 2:34, Hebrews 1:13; echoed in Romans 8:34 (“who is at the right hand of God”) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R6. |
| Colossians 3:4 | Appearing in glory | Son of Man (Daniel’s vision) | Typology: Daniel 7:13–14; NT parallel: Romans 8:18–19 (“the glory that is to be revealed”) | High; reuses baseline المجد. |
| Colossians 3:5 | Covetousness is idolatry | Israel at Sinai | Allusion: Exodus 20:17 / Deuteronomy 5:21 (tenth commandment); typology: Exodus 32 (golden calf as paradigmatic idolatry born of desire) | Low-Medium, positive bridge (shared condemnation of shirk); the extension of “idolatry” to an inward disposition is the teaching point — see 07_semantic_analysis.md. |
| Colossians 3:6 | Wrath of God | — | General OT wrath theme (e.g. Nahum 1:2; Zephaniah 1:14–18); direct parallel: Romans 1:18 (“the wrath of God is revealed”) | Medium; reinforce this wrath is resolved for believers through reconciliation (1:20), not a standing threat (baseline assurance_of_salvation). |
| Colossians 3:9–10 | Put off old self, put on new self, renewed in the image of the Creator | Adam | Typology: Genesis 1:26–27, 5:1 (image of God at creation); NT parallel: Ephesians 4:22–24; direct parallel: Romans 6:6 (“our old self was crucified with him”) | Critical, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R7. |
| Colossians 3:11 | No Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised — Christ is all | Abraham (circumcision’s covenantal origin) | Typology: Genesis 17 (circumcision as covenant marker); NT parallel: Galatians 3:28; direct parallel: Romans 10:12 (“no distinction between Jew and Greek”) and Romans 3:22 | High, cross-curriculum. See §4 rule R8. |
| Colossians 3:12 | God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved | Israel (corporate election) | Typology: Deuteronomy 7:6–8 (Israel chosen); Isaiah 43:20–21; NT parallel: 1 Peter 2:9; ties to Romans 9:11–13, 11:5–7 (election) | High, cross-curriculum; same folk-qadar caution as baseline election/effectual_calling. |
| Colossians 3:13 | Forgive as the Lord forgave you | — | Typology: Psalm 103:3, 10–12 (pattern of divine forgiveness); NT allusion: Matthew 18:21–35 (parable of the unforgiving servant) | Medium. |
| Colossians 3:15 | Let the peace of Christ rule | — | Allusion: Isaiah 26:3 (peace/trust in God); ties to Romans 5:1, 8:6 (peace with God) | Medium-High, per baseline peace_with_god note re: Sufi tuma’ninah conflation. |
| Colossians 3:16 | Psalms, hymns, spiritual songs | David and the Psalter’s authors | Direct source category: the Psalter itself (150 psalms); NT parallel: Ephesians 5:19 | Low. |
| Colossians 3:18–19 | Wives submit; husbands love | Adam and Eve | Typology: Genesis 2:18–24 (creation order, marriage institution); direct structural NT parallel: Ephesians 5:22–33 | High. Route to theologian review; retain both halves of the pairing together per 08_core_glossary.md note. |
| Colossians 3:20–21 | Children obey; fathers do not provoke | — | Allusion: Exodus 20:12 / Deuteronomy 5:16 (fifth commandment) — directly quoted (not merely alluded to) in the structural NT parallel Ephesians 6:1–3 | Medium; distinct referent from baseline obedience_of_faith (filial, not faith-obedience). |
| Colossians 3:22–4:1 | Slaves obey masters; masters treat justly | — | Background institution: Exodus 21:2–11; Leviticus 25:39–46 (OT bondservant law); direct structural NT parallel: Ephesians 6:5–9; whole-letter parallel: Philemon (same historical situation, Onesimus) | High. Route to theologian review; contemporary Arabic العبد sensitivity and lost κύριος wordplay both flagged in 08_core_glossary.md. |
4. Chapter 4 — Cross-Reference Matrix
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colossians 4:2 | Continue steadfastly in prayer, watchful | — | Allusion: Psalm 119:147–148 (watching in prayer); NT parallel: Romans 12:12 (“be constant in prayer”) | Low-Medium. |
| Colossians 4:3 | Mystery of Christ | Daniel | Same Daniel 2:28–29 / Romans 16:25–27 connection as 1:26–27 | Critical, same rule R3 applies. |
| Colossians 4:6 | Speech seasoned with salt | Moses (Levitical law) | Typology: Leviticus 2:13 (“salt of the covenant” in every grain offering); NT parallel: Matthew 5:13, Mark 9:50 | Low; idiom, may render literally or plainly. |
| Colossians 4:11 | ”The circumcision party” | Abraham (background) | Same Genesis 17 background as 2:11, 3:11 | Low; historical/descriptive reference to Jewish co-workers, not doctrinal in itself. |
| Colossians 4:15–16 | Church in a house; letter exchange with Laodicea | Nympha (named house-church host) | No OT connection; historical/epistolary detail | Low; church-as-household-gathering sense reinforces baseline church note (community, not building). |
| Colossians 4:18 | Remember my chains | Paul | No OT connection; grounds authorship/imprisonment setting | Low. |
Chapter 4 coverage note: chapter 4 introduces no new OT typological material beyond what has already been catalogued (mystery, salt/covenant, circumcision); it is reviewed in full above and confirmed to carry no additional doctrinal cross-reference load beyond continuity with earlier chapters.
5. Structural Observation: The Absence of Formula Quotations in Colossians
Unlike Romans — whose argument is built on an extended catena of explicit, formula-introduced OT citations (Habakkuk 2:4 at Romans 1:17; Genesis 15:6 at Romans 4:3; Isaiah and the Psalms throughout Romans 3, 9–11) — Colossians contains not a single formula-introduced OT quotation (“as it is written,” “the scripture says”). Its entire OT relationship is carried by allusion and typology, as catalogued above.
Translation-planning consequence: Arabic-speaking learners who move from the Romans curriculum (heavy explicit citation, easy to cross-reference) into Colossians (dense implicit allusion, easy to miss) will need more, not less, explanatory scaffolding around OT background — particularly for the tabernacle/temple-indwelling typology behind 1:19/2:9, the Adam typology behind 3:9–10, and the Psalm 89/Psalm 110 typology behind 1:15, 1:18, and 3:1. Teaching materials should make these connections explicit rather than assume the Arabic reader will supply them, since Colossae’s own original Gentile-majority congregation likely needed the same explicit unpacking Paul himself provides in the letter’s argument.
6. Messianic References and Typology Summary
| Type | OT Root | Colossians Development | Key NT Parallels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firstborn/Davidic sovereign | Psalm 89:27; 2 Samuel 7:12–16; Psalm 2:7 | Colossians 1:15, 1:18 — rank/inheritance title applied to Christ over creation and over the resurrection | Romans 1:3–4 (seed of David, declared Son of God — same curriculum’s own core parallel passage); Revelation 1:5 |
| Wisdom, agent of creation | Proverbs 8:22–31 | Colossians 1:16–17 — Christ as the one through whom and for whom all things exist, sustaining all things | John 1:1–3; 1 Corinthians 1:24, 30 |
| Image of God | Genesis 1:26–27 | Colossians 1:15 (Christ as the essential, source image); Colossians 3:10 (believers renewed derivatively in that image) | 2 Corinthians 4:4; Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 15:49 |
| Tabernacle/temple indwelling presence (Shekinah) | Exodus 25:8, 40:34–35; 1 Kings 8:10–11 | Colossians 1:19, 2:9 — the “fullness” of God/Deity permanently dwelling, now in a person rather than a building | John 1:14 |
| Suffering Servant, atoning blood | Isaiah 53 | Colossians 1:20, 1:22, 2:14 — reconciliation and cancellation of the debt-record through the cross | Romans 3:24–25, 5:9–11 |
| Serpent-crushing victory | Genesis 3:15 | Colossians 2:15 — Christ’s public triumph over hostile spiritual powers | Romans 16:20; Revelation 12:9–11 |
| Firstfruits of resurrection | Leviticus 23:10 | Colossians 1:18 (“firstborn from the dead”) | 1 Corinthians 15:20–23 |
| Enthronement at God’s right hand | Psalm 110:1 | Colossians 3:1 | Romans 8:34; Hebrews 1:13 |
| Circumcision of the heart | Deuteronomy 30:6; Jeremiah 4:4 | Colossians 2:11 | Romans 2:28–29 |
| New Adam / new humanity | Genesis 1–3 (Adam narrative) | Colossians 3:9–11 — old self/new self, no ethnic distinction in the new humanity | Romans 5:12–21; 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45–49 |
| Mystery revealed | Daniel 2:28–29 | Colossians 1:26–27, 2:2, 4:3 | Romans 16:25–27; Ephesians 3:2–9 |
7. Parallels to Other Curricula in This Language (Romans) — Rendering-Consistency Rules
The following passages carry near-identical Greek constructions, shared theological vocabulary, or direct thematic overlap with the established Romans curriculum. Because the same Arabic-speaking learners will move between both curricula, identical Arabic renderings are mandatory wherever the same underlying claim is made, per the baseline’s Theological Consistency Rules table.
| Rule | Colossians Passage | Romans Passage | Shared Element | Consistency Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| R1 | Colossians 1:16 | Romans 11:36 | ”through him… for him” (διά/εἰς) creation-agency formula | Render the shared prepositions به / له identically in both books. Do not add an “from him” (ἐξ αὐτοῦ) clause to Colossians 1:16 to harmonize with Romans 11:36 — the Greek constructions differ and must be translated as they stand, while the shared prepositions retain identical Arabic equivalents. |
| R2 | Colossians 1:20; 1:21–22 | Romans 5:10–11 | Reconciliation (ἀποκαταλλάσσω/καταλλάσσω) | Use يصالح / المصالحة identically in both books. Romans introduces individual believer-God reconciliation; Colossians expands the same verb-family to cosmic scope. Lexical identity is required so learners recognize the connection; a teaching note should flag the scope expansion explicitly. |
| R3 | Colossians 1:26–27; 4:3 | Romans 16:25–27 | ”Mystery hidden for ages, now revealed” | Render السر and the “hidden… now revealed” clause with matching syntax in both books — this is a near-verbatim theological formula in the Greek and should read as such in Arabic. |
| R4 | Colossians 2:11 | Romans 2:28–29 | Circumcision of the heart vs. physical circumcision | Use consistent phrasing for the inward/spiritual-vs-outward-physical contrast (e.g. ختان القلب / غير مصنوع بيد) so the doctrinal point — true covenant membership is inward — reads identically across both books. |
| R5 | Colossians 2:12; 3:1 | Romans 6:3–5; 8:34 | Buried and raised with Christ; seated with him | Use identical verbs دُفن مع / أُقيم مع (baptism-union language) and عن يمين الله (enthronement language) across both books. Both require the same crucifixion-historicity apologetic scaffolding per the baseline resurrection entry. |
| R6 | Colossians 3:1 | Romans 8:34 | ”At the right hand of God” (Psalm 110:1 echo) | Render عن يمين الله identically in both occurrences. |
| R7 | Colossians 3:9–10 | Romans 6:6 | ”Old self” (crucified/put off) | Render الإنسان العتيق identically. Action item: per 08_core_glossary.md §D, this exact phrase is presently a gap in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json (Romans 6:6 uses the same Greek phrase but it was not captured as a distinct TM entry) — recommend backfilling the Romans TM with الإنسان العتيق / الإنسان الجديد so both curricula share one enforced entry rather than two independently-derived renderings. |
| R8 | Colossians 3:11 | Romans 10:12; 3:22 | ”No distinction… Jew and Greek” | Render لا فرق (“no distinction”) identically in both books when introducing the ethnic/social leveling claim. |
| R9 | Colossians 3:12 | Romans 9:11–13; 11:5–7 | Election / God’s chosen ones | Use اختيار الله / مختارو الله consistently; carry over the baseline caution against folk-qadar fatalism collapse to every Colossians occurrence. |
| R10 | Colossians 3:6 | Romans 1:18 | ”Wrath of God” | Render غضب الله identically; in Colossians 3:6 clarify (per baseline assurance_of_salvation) that this wrath is resolved for believers through 1:20’s reconciliation, not a standing threat. |
| R11 | Colossians 1:12; 1:14 | Romans 3:24 | Redemption (ἀπολύτρωσις) | Action item: Romans 3:24 uses the same Greek term but the Romans baseline TM has no dedicated entry for it (only imputed_righteousness and salvation are separately captured). Recommend backfilling the Romans TM with الفداء as a shared entry so both curricula enforce one consistent rendering. |
| R12 | Colossians 3:18–4:1 | Romans 13:1–7 | ὑποτάσσω (submission) applied to different spheres — domestic (Colossians) vs. civic/governmental (Romans) | Use the same base verb يخضع in both spheres, but supply an explicit teaching note in both curricula distinguishing the referent of submission (spouse vs. civil government) so a learner moving between the two curricula does not conflate household submission with political submission as a single undifferentiated category. |
8. Citation Normalization Reference
| Element | Convention |
|---|---|
