Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 1 Peter (English/Greek → Dogri)
This glossary extends the baseline Romans translation_memory.json for the 1 Peter curriculum. It does not replace or alter any baseline entry. Section A lists baseline terms confirmed for exact reuse in 1 Peter. Section B lists all net-new terms introduced by 1 Peter, organized by the curriculum’s eight named doctrines plus cross-cutting/general vocabulary, each with risk tier, citation(s), and translation notes. All Critical and High risk new terms in Section B must be added to translation memory (with version increment) before Phase 2 segment translation begins, per the Pre-flight Checklist in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Section B — New Terms Introduced by 1 Peter
B1. Living Hope of the Resurrection
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| born again / regenerated | ἀναγεννάω / anagennaō | नवां जनम दित्ता (परमेश्वर वल्लों) | Critical | 1:3, 1:23 | NEVER पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation). Always anchor with “परमेश्वर वल्लों” (by God) and pair with explanatory contrast against karma/rebirth-cycle framework. |
| living hope | ἐλπὶς ζῶσα / elpis zōsa | जिंदा आस | Critical | 1:3, 1:21 | Distinct from भरोसा (faith). Distinct from mannat-boon hope. Echoes जिंदा पत्थर for thematic consistency. |
| inheritance | κληρονομία / klēronomia | विरासत | High | 1:4 | Must be de-linked from lineage/caste/izzat-based inheritance logic; heavenly, not earthly. |
| imperishable | ἄφθαρτος / aphthartos | जो कदी नाश नेईं होंदी (descriptive) | High | 1:4 | Avoid अविनाशी as primary term (Vedantic ātman/Brahman loading). |
| undefiled | ἀμίαντος / amiantos | बे-दाग | Low-Medium | 1:4 | Moral, not ritual, purity. |
| unfading | ἀμάραντος / amarantos | जो कदी मलीन नेईं होंदी | Low | 1:4, 5:4 | Keep phrasing identical at both occurrences. |
| heaven | οὐρανός / ouranos | स्वर्ग (with mandatory caveat) | High | 1:4 | Must distinguish from Hindu svarga (temporary, within rebirth cycle) — biblical heaven is permanent, final. |
| revealed / revelation (of salvation/Christ) | ἀποκαλύπτω / apokalyptō | प्रगट होना | Medium-High | 1:5, 1:7, 1:12 | Distinguish from a deity’s periodic/cyclical manifestation; this is Christ’s singular, final, historical appearing. |
| last time / last days | καιρὸς ἔσχατος / kairos eschatos | आखरी बेल्लै | High | 1:5, 1:20, 4:7 | Linear eschatology; must not be heard through cyclical-Yuga/pralaya cosmology. |
| trial(s) / testing | πειρασμός / peirasmos | अजमाइश | High | 1:6, 4:12 | Distinguish from karma-retribution suffering framework. |
| tested genuineness | δοκίμιον / dokimion | परख | High | 1:7 | Fire-testing metaphor; caution re: agni parīkṣā (Sita’s fire ordeal) association — different logic (proving genuineness vs. proving innocence). |
| soul | ψυχή / psychē | जिंद | Critical | 1:9, 1:22, 2:11, 2:25, 3:20, 4:19 | NEVER आत्मा (reserved for पवित्तर आत्मा / Holy Spirit; avoids Vedantic ātman collision). |
B2. Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| suffering(s) (general, believers’) | πάθημα / πάσχω / pathēma / paschō | दुख | Critical | 1:6, 2:19-20, 3:14, 3:17, 4:1, 4:12-19, 5:9-10 | Distinguish sharply from karmic-retribution suffering AND from Baba Jitto folk-martyr self-sacrifice pattern. Must be layered: ordinary suffering ≠ suffering for righteousness ≠ Christ’s atoning suffering (see B4). |
| suffering for righteousness’ sake | πάσχοντες διὰ δικαιοσύνην | दुख…धरमीपन आस्तै | Critical | 3:14 | Flagship verse for this named doctrine; reuse धरमीपन exactly. |
| fiery ordeal | πύρωσις / pyrōsis | अग्गी दी अजमाइश | High | 4:12 | Same agni-parīkṣā caution as दोकीमियन/परख above. |
| reproached for Christ’s name | ὀνειδίζεσθε ἐν ὀνόματι Χριστοῦ | बदनाम कीता जाणा (मसीह दे नां आस्तै) | High | 4:14, 4:16 | Direct collision with izzat/honor-shame culture; reproach-for-Christ reframed as blessing, not shame to be defended against. |
| share/participate in Christ’s sufferings | κοινωνέω…παθήμασιν | दुख…च संगत | Critical | 4:13 | Fellowship-with-suffering, NOT contribution to atonement — preserve this distinction precisely (see B4). |
| adversary the devil | διάβολος / diabolos | शैतान | High | 5:8 | Distinguish from mythological rakshasa/asura antagonists (e.g. Ravana) already defeated within closed local narratives; the devil is an ongoing, present, “prowling” adversary. |
B3. The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| living stone | λίθος ζῶν / lithos zōn | जिंदा पत्थर | Critical | 2:4-5 | Must contrast explicitly with murti (idol) worship at Raghunath Mandir/Bahu Fort — a foundation metaphor for God’s people, not an image installed for veneration. |
| spiritual house | οἶκος πνευματικός / oikos pneumatikos | आत्मिक घर | Medium | 2:5 | Distinguish from a physical temple/mandir building. |
| holy priesthood / royal priesthood | ἱεράτευμα ἅγιον / βασίλειον ἱεράτευμα | याजकपन / याजक (राजसी याजक) | Critical | 2:5, 2:9 | NEVER पंडित or पुरोहित (Brahmanical caste-priest associations). Use याजक, consistent with established regional Hindi Christian usage; confirm against BSI Dogri Bible. |
| holy nation | ἔθνος ἅγιον / ethnos hagion | पवित्तर राष्ट्र | Critical | 2:9 | NEVER जाति (caste). राष्ट्र required — the doctrine’s whole point is transcendence of caste-based identity. |
| people for God’s own possession | λαὸς εἰς περιποίησιν | अपनी खास प्रजा | Medium | 2:9 | Connect to परमेश्वर दी चोन (baseline election); avoid boon-outcome framing. |
B4. Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ | ῥαντισμὸς αἵματος / rantismos haimatos | यीशु मसीह दे खून दा छिड़काव | Critical | 1:2 | Distinguish from Bahu Fort Kali-shrine votive animal-sacrifice practice; a single, covenant-ratifying, unrepeatable act. |
| redeemed / ransomed | ἀπολυτρόω / apolytroō | कीमत देइयै छुड़ाना | Critical | 1:18 | NEVER मुक्ति (forbidden per baseline). Redeemed specifically from an inherited ancestral (πατροπαράδοτος) way of life — connects to rīt-rivāj/izzat caution. |
| lamb without blemish or spot | ἀμνὸς ἄμωμος καὶ ἄσπιλος | बे-दाग लेला | Critical | 1:19 | Requires OT Passover/sacrificial-system background note; distinguish from local animal-sacrifice practice. |
| he bore our sins in his body on the tree | ἀνήνεγκεν…ἐπὶ τὸ ξύλον | अपने उपर लैना…क्रूस पर | Critical | 2:24 | Doctrinal center of gravity; must be taught as unique, substitutionary, atoning — explicitly NOT equivalent to Baba Jitto’s folk-martyr self-sacrifice against injustice. |
| by his wounds you have been healed | τῷ μώλωπι…ἰάθητε | ओह्दे जख्मां कन्नै तुसां ठीक होए | Low-Medium | 2:24 | Primarily spiritual healing (from sin); caution against prosperity-gospel over-reading. |
| suffered in the flesh | παθόντος σαρκί | मानखे दे रूप च दुख झलाया | Critical | 4:1 | Reuses मानखे दा रूप लैना (incarnation, baseline Critical). |
| put to death in the flesh, made alive in the spirit | θανατωθεὶς σαρκί, ζωοποιηθεὶς πνεύματι | मानखे दे रूप च मारेआ गेआ, आत्मा च जिंदा कीता | Critical | 3:18 | Grounds 3:19’s proclamation; connects flesh/spirit contrast to incarnation and resurrection terms. |
B5. Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits (1 Peter 3:18-22)
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| the spirits in prison | τὰ ἐν φυλακῇ πνεύματα | कैद च बंद आत्मां | Critical (highest-difficulty passage in the book) | 3:19 | आत्मा used ONLY here in this bracketed, contextually-marked sense — never for human “soul” (जिंद) nor unqualified for the Holy Spirit. Guard against folk-spirit/ancestor-veneration associations (bhoot/pret, local martyr-shrine cults like Aghar Jitto). Requires a documented translator’s note presenting the standing interpretive options (Noah-generation disobedient dead; fallen angelic beings; descent to the place of the dead) rather than a silently-adopted single reading. Mandatory theologian review, treated as harder than a standard Critical term. |
| he went and proclaimed | πορευθεὶς ἐκήρυξεν | गेआ ते प्रचार कीता | High | 3:19 | Reuse प्रचार (baseline mission family). |
| baptism | βάπτισμα / baptisma | बपतिस्मा | High | 3:21 | Distinguish from ritual bathing/purification (snana, pre-darshan purity rites); leverage the text’s own built-in contrast (“not removal of dirt… but an appeal for a good conscience”). |
| good conscience | συνείδησις ἀγαθή | जमीर | High | 2:19, 3:16, 3:21 | Avoid अंतरात्मा (Vedantic ātman-based compound); जमीर avoids this metaphysical loading. |
| corresponding pattern (antitype) | ἀντίτυπον / antitypon | मिलदा-जुलदा निशान | Medium | 3:21 | Typology concept; needs its own explanatory note for low-OT-literacy audience. |
| angels, authorities, powers subject to him | ἀγγέλων, ἐξουσιῶν, δυνάμεων ὑποταγέντων | दूतां, अधिकारां, सामर्थां…ओह्दे अधीन | Medium | 3:22 | Confirms Christ’s supreme cosmic Lordship; reuse प्रभु (Critical). |
B6. Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| submit yourselves | ὑποτάγητε / hypotagēte | अधीन होना | High | 2:13, 2:18, 3:1, 3:22, 5:5 | Must be Christlike, voluntary submission modeled on 2:21-23, not izzat-preservation or fear-based deference; not blanket endorsement of every hierarchy. |
| household servants | οἰκέτης / oiketēs | नौकर | Medium | 2:18 | Requires historical-slavery context note; not equivalent to modern employment. |
| example / pattern (Christ’s, for suffering conduct) | ὑπογραμμός / hypogrammos | नमूना | Low-Medium | 2:21 | Connects Christ’s suffering pattern to believers’ suffering without collapsing substitutionary/exemplary distinction. |
| authority (human and cosmic) | ἐξουσία / exousia | अधिकार | Medium | 2:13-17, 3:22 | Note dual register (civil governing authority vs. cosmic spiritual powers), both subject to Christ. |
| gentle and quiet spirit | πραΰ καὶ ἡσύχιον πνεῦμα | नरम ते सिधरे सुभा | Medium | 3:4 | Inner strength, not passive doormat submission. |
| honor the king | τιμήσατε τὸν βασιλέα | राजे दी आदर करो | Medium | 2:17 | राजा (earthly king) must remain clearly subordinate/distinct from प्रभु (Christ’s Lordship, Critical). |
B7. Elders and Humility
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| elders | πρεσβύτερος / presbyteros | कलीसिया दे बुजुर्ग अगुवे | High | 5:1, 5:5 | Functional shepherding office, not merely age-honorific; compound form preserves both senses. |
| humility / humble-minded | ταπεινοφροσύνη / tapeinophrosynē | नमरता | High | 3:8, 5:5, 5:6 | Voluntary, Christlike, applies to leaders toward those they lead too — sharply distinct from obligatory izzat-culture hierarchical deference. |
| not for shameful gain but eagerly; not domineering | μὴ αἰσχροκερδῶς…μηδὲ κατακυριεύοντες | शरमनाक फायदे आस्तै नेईं…हुकम ना चलाओ | High | 5:2-3 | Explicitly forbids eldership as a status/gain-seeking office; guards against izzat-driven leadership motives. |
| Chief Shepherd | ἀρχιποίμην / archipoimēn | मुक्ख चरवाहा | Medium | 5:4 | Elders’ authority is derivative of, and accountable to, Christ’s own supreme shepherding office. |
| clothe yourselves with humility | ἐγκομβώσασθε τὴν ταπεινοφροσύνην | नमरता दा पल्ला बन्नो | Medium | 5:5 | Preserve the “tying on a garment” servant-image where natural. |
| casting your anxiety on him | ἐπιρίψαντες τὴν μέριμναν | चिंता…ओह्दे उप्पर सुट्टणा | Low-Medium | 5:7 | Connects humility, providence, and trust (भरोसा). |
B8. Holiness in Conduct
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| conduct / behavior | ἀναστροφή / anastrophē | चाल-चलण | Low-Medium | 1:15, 1:18, 2:12, 3:1-2, 3:16 | Keep consistent across all occurrences. |
| be holy, for I am holy | ἅγιοι γενήθητε, ἅγιός εἰμι | पवित्तर बणो, कीजे मैं पवित्तर आं | High (reuses baseline Critical पवित्तर) | 1:15-16 | Direct Leviticus 19:2 quotation; holiness grounded in imitation of God’s own character. |
| idolatry | εἰδωλολατρία / eidōlolatria | मूरती पूजा | Critical | 4:3 | Names mainstream regional devotional practice directly; preserve full doctrinal force, frame pastorally with care. |
| former desires/lusts (ignorance) | ἐπιθυμία / epithymia | लालसा / वासना | Medium | 1:14, 4:2-3 | Sinful craving, contrasted with holy conduct — not desire-as-such. |
| faithful Creator | κτίστης / ktistēs | सिरजनहार | Medium-High | 4:19 | Personal, trustworthy biblical Creator — not an impersonal cosmic principle or pantheistic emanation-source. |
B9. Cross-Cutting / General Vocabulary (not tied to a single named doctrine)
| English term | Greek / translit. | Dogri rendering | Risk | Citations | Translation notes / rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mercy | ἔλεος / eleos | रहम | High | 1:3 | Distinct from grace (बिना कमाई दित्ती दया); avoid दया alone to prevent conflating with the fixed grace-compound. |
| love (agapē) | ἀγάπη / agapē | प्यार | High | 1:8, 1:22, 4:8 | Prefer over प्रेम to avoid bhakti-devotional (Krishna-prem) resonance; ground in Christ’s prior saving action, not autonomous devotional feeling. |
| joy | χαρά / chara | खुशी | Low | 1:8 | |
| exult / rejoice greatly | ἀγαλλιάω / agalliaō | बड़ी खुशी मनाना | Low-Medium | 1:6, 1:8 | |
| foreknowledge | πρόγνωσις / prognōsis | पहले तों जाणना | High | 1:2, 1:20 | Personal, relational foreknowing — never किस्मत (fate); connects to baseline providence/election guard. |
| sojourner / exile | παρεπίδημος, πάροικος / parepidēmos, paroikos | परदेसी | Medium | 1:1, 1:17, 2:11 | Spiritual/eschatological alien status, not merely geographic migration. |
| honor | τιμή / timē | आदर / मान | Medium | 1:7, 2:17, 3:7 | Avoid इज्जत as primary term to prevent collapsing into Dogra Rajput social-honor culture; note valuable contrast between God’s eschatological honor and worldly izzat. |
| outcome / goal (telos) | τέλος / telos | मकसद / नतीजा | Medium | 1:9, 4:7 | Goal-reached, not termination; connects 1:9 and 4:7 conceptually. |
| word of God (living) | λόγος ζῶν Θεοῦ | जिंदा बचन | Medium | 1:23, 1:25 | Echoes जिंदा आस/जिंदा पत्थर for thematic consistency. |
| household of God | οἶκος Θεοῦ | परमेश्वर दा घराणा/परिवार | Medium | 4:17 | Connects to baseline adoption/family-of-God doctrine. |
| shepherd / overseer | ποιμήν, ἐπίσκοπος / poimēn, episkopos | चरवाहा / निगराणी करने वाला | Medium | 2:25, 5:2 | Minor incidental resonance with Krishna-as-cowherd (Govinda) — manageable, note only. |
| fear (dual sense: reverence vs. anxious dread) | φόβος / phobos | डर / भे (context-sensitive) | Medium | 1:17, 2:17, 3:6, 3:14 | Context-sensitive like baseline’s “called”: reverent fear of God (positive) vs. anxious fear of threats (which 3:6, 3:14 explicitly forbid). |
| Christian (the name) | Χριστιανός / Christianos | मसीही | Low-Medium | 4:16 | Standard established regional term. |
| Babylon (symbolic) | Βαβυλών / Babylōn | बेबीलोन (transliterated proper noun) | Low-Medium | 5:13 | Symbolic reference to Rome; requires historical-background translator’s note, not a literal or locally-associated place reading. |
Risk Summary — New Terms (Section B)
| Risk Tier | Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 15 | Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence |
| High | 20 | Mandatory human theologian review |
| Medium | 18 | Native speaker review recommended |
| Low / Low-Medium | 10 | Automated review sufficient, spot-check recommended |
Note: 1 Peter 3:18-22 (“Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits”) contains the single highest-difficulty term-cluster in this glossary (τὰ ἐν φυλακῇ πνεύματα). It is flagged as harder than a standard Critical-tier entry because the underlying doctrine is genuinely disputed within historic Christian orthodoxy itself, not merely at risk of local mistranslation. Phase 2 processing of this passage must not proceed without an explicit theologian-approved interpretive stance recorded alongside the terminology choice.
This glossary must be merged into an extended translation_memory.json for the 1 Peter curriculum before Phase 2 begins, following the version-increment and theologian-flagging procedures specified in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

New term. Occurs 1:3, 1:23. The single highest-salience new collision in the whole book: NEVER पुनर्जन्म, a live, dominant Duggar worldview explaining life’s cycles through karma. Distinct from भरोसा (faith) and from the Vaishno Devi mannat economy’s hope of a granted boon.

Transliteration: jind
Doctrine: Anthropology of the Soul
Rejected alternatives: आत्मा (reserved for पवित्तर आत्मा; Vedantic ātman association, NEVER use for the human soul)
Original: ψυχή
Category: Anthropology
New term. Occurs 1:9, 1:22, 2:11, 2:25, 3:20, 4:19. आत्मा is already fixed for पवित्तर आत्मा and must never double for the human soul, since आत्मा in wider regional Hindu usage denotes ātman, the eternal individual self often held identical with or a fragment of Brahman. जिंद preserves the biblical picture of a created soul/life needing God’s saving action. Apply with total consistency across all six occurrences; mandatory theologian review.
Suffering
Approved rendering: दुख
Transliteration: dukh
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: πάθημα / πάσχω
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:11, 2:19-23, 3:14, 3:17, 4:1, 4:12-19, 5:1, 5:9-10 — the book’s most theologically load-bearing word-family. Must be taught with layered precision distinguishing (a) Christ’s unique substitutionary suffering, (b) believers’ suffering for righteousness’/Christ’s name’s sake, and (c) ordinary misfortune (popularly explained through karmic retribution). Also guard against assimilation to the regionally venerated Baba Jitto folk-martyr narrative (Aghar Jitto shrine, Jitto Da Mela). Never let दुख stand alone in doctrinal contexts without a qualifying phrase.
Suffering For Righteousness
Approved rendering: दुख…धरमीपन आस्तै
Transliteration: dukh…dharmipan aastai
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: πάσχοντες διὰ δικαιοσύνην
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 3:14 — the flagship textual anchor for this named curriculum doctrine. Reuses धरमीपन exactly. Must preserve contrast with karmic-retribution suffering and with Baba Jitto folk-martyrdom.
Share In Christs Sufferings
Approved rendering: दुख च संगत
Transliteration: dukh ch sangat
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: κοινωνέω…παθήμασιν
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 4:13. Must be taught as ongoing fellowship/identification with Christ’s suffering pattern, NEVER as believers adding to or completing Christ’s unique atoning work (2:24, 3:18). This distinction must never be blurred.
Living Stone
Approved rendering: जिंदा पत्थर
Transliteration: jinda patthar
Doctrine: The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Original: λίθος ζῶν
Category: Church
New term. Occurs 2:4-5. Duggar temple culture centers devotional life on carved stone/metal murtis (Raghunath Mandir, Bahu Fort) that are consecrated and worshipped. Must be taught as radically unlike a murti: not an image installed for worship, not carved by human hands, and explicitly living, in deliberate contrast to any lifeless idol. Mandatory theologian review.
Priesthood
Approved rendering: याजकपन / याजक
Transliteration: yajakpan / yajak
Doctrine: The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: पंडित (Brahmanical caste priest, NEVER use), पुरोहित (hereditary/clerical priest, NEVER use)
Original: ἱεράτευμα
Category: Church
New term. Occurs 2:5, 2:9. NEVER पंडित or पुरोहित — both carry strong, specific Brahmanical hereditary priestly-caste associations exemplified by the priestly personnel of Dogra-royal-patronized temples like Raghunath Mandir. याजक is the established regional Hindi Christian rendering for biblical priestly offices and the whole-believer priesthood; confirm against BSI Dogri Bible. Mandatory theologian review.
Holy Nation
Approved rendering: पवित्तर राष्ट्र
Transliteration: pavittar rashtra
Doctrine: The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: जाति (caste, NEVER use)
Original: ἔθνος ἅγιον
Category: Church
New term. Occurs 2:9. NEVER जाति. Using जाति would catastrophically invert the verse’s point: God’s people are ONE holy people transcending caste distinctions entirely, not one more caste added to the existing hierarchy. Mandatory theologian review.
Blood Sprinkling
Approved rendering: खून दा छिड़काव
Transliteration: khoon da chhidkaav
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ῥαντισμὸς αἵματος
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:2. Must be distinguished from the Bahu Fort Kali shrine’s ongoing votive animal-sacrifice practice (Bawe Wali Mata) — a single, unrepeatable, covenant-ratifying act, not one instance of a repeatable votive blood-offering economy. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence.
Redemption
Approved rendering: कीमत देइयै छुड़ाना
Transliteration: kimat deiyai chhudaana
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति (rebirth-cycle liberation, NEVER use, forbidden per baseline)
Original: ἀπολυτρόω
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:18. The futile way of life redeemed FROM is explicitly named as ‘handed down from your fathers’ (πατροπαράδοτος) — touches Dogra Rajput inherited-ancestral-custom (rīt-rivāj) and lineage-bound honor obligation (izzat) directly.
Lamb Without Blemish
Approved rendering: बे-दाग लेला
Transliteration: be-daag lela
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ἀμνὸς ἄμωμος καὶ ἄσπιλος
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:19. Requires explicit OT Passover/sacrificial-system background note for an audience with low OT narrative literacy; distinguish from Bahu Fort votive animal sacrifice — a single, unrepeatable, perfect offering.
Bore Our Sins
Approved rendering: अपने उपर लैना…क्रूस पर
Transliteration: apne upar laina…kroos par
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ἀναφέρω…ἐπὶ τὸ ξύλον
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
New term. Occurs 2:24. Doctrinal center of gravity for this curriculum. Must be taught as a unique, atoning, sin-bearing act before God — specifically NOT equivalent to the regionally venerated Baba Jitto folk-martyr self-sacrifice pattern (innocent protest-death against an exploitative landlord), which, however admirable as local memory, is not substitutionary atonement before God. Mandatory theologian review.
Suffered In Flesh
Approved rendering: मानखे दे रूप च दुख झलाया
Transliteration: mankhe de roop ch dukh jhalaya
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: παθόντος σαρκί
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
New term. Occurs 4:1. Reuses मानखे दा रूप लैना (incarnation) and दुख (suffering); must preserve both the reality of Christ’s genuine human suffering and its atoning uniqueness.
Put To Death Made Alive
Approved rendering: मानखे दे रूप च मारेआ गेआ, आत्मा च जिंदा कीता
Transliteration: mankhe de roop ch mareya geya, aatma ch jinda kita
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Original: θανατωθεὶς σαρκί, ζωοποιηθεὶς πνεύματι
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
New term. Occurs 3:18. Grounds the disputed 3:19 passage; must preserve the flesh/spirit contrast without implying a merely spiritual (non-bodily) resurrection, consistent with the baseline’s bodily-resurrection guard.
Idolatry
Approved rendering: मूरती पूजा
Transliteration: moorti pooja
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Original: εἰδωλολατρία
Category: Holiness in Conduct
New term. Occurs 4:3. Directly names the mainstream, ongoing devotional practice of image veneration central to Duggar religious life (Raghunath Mandir, Bahu Fort). Doctrinal force must not be softened, but pastoral framing must address the text’s own audience reflecting on their own past, not an external denunciation of neighbors’ current practice. Mandatory theologian review.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: खरी खबर
Transliteration: khari khabar
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: सुसमाचार (Hindi Christian loanword; avoid as default)
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring at 1:12, 1:25, 4:6, 4:17. In 4:6 and 4:17, gospel-obedience is directly relevant to the Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake and Eschatological Judgment doctrines; ensure खरी खबर is not softened into generic good tidings.
Holy
Approved rendering: पवित्तर
Transliteration: pavittar
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्ध (ritual purity)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring at 1:15, 1:16, 2:5, 2:9, 3:5, anchoring the Holiness in Conduct doctrine’s Lev 19:2 quotation.
Saints
Approved rendering: पवित्तर लोक
Transliteration: pavittar lok
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: साधु (ascetic holy man)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; the underlying corporate-holiness concept grounds 1 Peter 2:5/2:9’s holy priesthood/holy nation language.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: पवित्तरता
Transliteration: pavittarta
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्धिकरण (ritual purification)
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter 1:2.
Faith
Approved rendering: भरोसा
Transliteration: bharosa
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा (generalized devotional reverence)

Election
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर दी चोन
Transliteration: Parmeshwar di chon
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: किस्मत (fate), मन्नत दा नतीजा (boon-outcome)
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐκλεκτός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring at 1:1-2, 2:9, opening the letter’s entire ‘elect exiles’ identity frame.
Called
Approved rendering: सद्देआ होया
Transliteration: saddea hoya
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: सद्दा दित्ता (invited, too weak)
Original: κλητός / καλέω
Category: Divine Calling
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring at 1:15, 2:9, 2:21, 3:9, 5:10 — context-sensitive across at least four senses in this book (holiness, sainthood, suffering-example, final glory).
Calling
Approved rendering: सद्द
Transliteration: sadd
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Divine Calling
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter as the noun form paired with सद्देआ होया.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर दी सामर्थ
Transliteration: Parmeshwar di samarth
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति (goddess-power)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring at 1:5 (guarded through faith) and 5:6 (humbling under God’s mighty hand). Never शक्ति, given Vaishno Devi/Bahu Fort Kali associations.
Sin
Approved rendering: पाप
Transliteration: paap
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: भिट्ट (ritual impurity)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring at 2:22, 2:24, 3:18, 4:1, 4:8.
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: भरोसे कन्नै ताल्लुक रखदी मन्नता
Transliteration: bharose kannai tallukh rakhdi mannata
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: धार्मिक रीत-रिवाज निभाना (Dogra Rajput ritual/social custom-keeping)
Inherited from Romans package; the underlying concept applies to 1 Peter 1:2 (‘for obedience to Jesus Christ’), 1:14 (‘as obedient children’), and 1:22 (‘obedience to the truth’) — obedience flowing from faith, not inherited ancestral custom (rīt-rivāj).
Providence
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर दा प्रबन्ध
Transliteration: Parmeshwar da prabandh
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: किस्मत (fate)
Inherited from Romans package; underlies 1 Peter 4:19 and 5:7 alongside the new term faithful_creator/सिरजनहार; God’s personal, purposive governance, never किस्मत.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: विरासत
Transliteration: virasat
Doctrine: Inheritance and Final Reward
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Eschatology
New term. Occurs 1:4. Must be explicitly de-linked from Dogra Rajput lineage/birthright/izzat inheritance logic — not tied to bloodline, caste, or clan, and not divisible or losable through dishonor; kept secure in स्वर्ग by God alone.
Imperishable
Approved rendering: जो कदी नाश नेईं होंदी
Transliteration: jo kadi naash nein hondi
Doctrine: Inheritance and Final Reward
Rejected alternatives: अविनाशी (Vedantic ātman/Brahman loading, avoid as primary rendering)
Original: ἄφθαρτος
Category: Eschatology
New term. Occurs 1:4. Descriptive phrase chosen specifically to avoid the Sanskrit-derived अविनाशी’s Vedantic philosophical loading (the imperishable ātman/Brahman).
Heaven
Approved rendering: स्वर्ग
Transliteration: swarg
Doctrine: The Living Hope of the Resurrection
Original: οὐρανός
Category: Eschatology
New term. Occurs 1:4. In popular Duggar cosmology स्वर्ग is a temporary heavenly realm within the rebirth cycle, exhausted once enjoyed merit runs out. Biblical heaven must be explicitly taught as the eternal, final dwelling, not a way-station within samsara. Mandatory permanence-qualifier note every occurrence.
Revealed
Approved rendering: प्रगट होना
Transliteration: pragat hona
Doctrine: Eschatological Judgment and Linear History
Original: ἀποκαλύπτω
Category: Eschatology
New term. Occurs 1:5, 1:7, 1:12, 1:13. प्रगट is also the common regional word for a deity’s periodic manifestation at a shrine; must be taught as Christ’s singular, final, historical appearing, not a recurring or cyclical divine manifestation.
Last Time
Approved rendering: आखरी बेल्लै
Transliteration: akhri bellai
Doctrine: Eschatological Judgment and Linear History
Original: καιρὸς ἔσχατος
Category: Eschatology
New term. Occurs 1:5, 1:20, 4:7. Popular Hindu cosmology frames time cyclically through the four Yugas ending in pralaya and re-creation; 1 Peter’s eschatology is emphatically linear, one final consummation, not a recurring cosmic cycle.
Trial
Approved rendering: अजमाइश
Transliteration: azmaish
Doctrine: Testing and Refining of Faith
Original: πειρασμός
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:6, 4:12 (as fiery ordeal). Must be sharply distinguished from suffering-as-karmic-retribution, the dominant regional explanatory framework for misfortune.
Tested Genuineness
Approved rendering: परख
Transliteration: parakh
Doctrine: Testing and Refining of Faith
Original: δοκίμιον
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:7. The gold-refined-by-fire metaphor sits close to Sita’s agni parīkṣā (fire ordeal) in the Ramayana, central to Raghunath Mandir devotion. 1 Peter’s fire-testing proves the genuineness of already-present faith through hardship; it is not a supernatural ordeal proving innocence by miraculous survival. Mandatory contextual note distinguishing these two logics.
Fiery Ordeal
Approved rendering: अग्गी दी अजमाइश
Transliteration: aggi di azmaish
Doctrine: Testing and Refining of Faith
Original: πύρωσις
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 4:12. Same agni parīkṣā caution as परख/tested_genuineness (1:7); suffering as normal and expected, not ‘strange.‘
Reproach For Christ
Approved rendering: बदनाम कीता जाणा (मसीह दे नां आस्तै)
Transliteration: badnaam kita jaana (Masih de naan aastai)
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: ὀνειδίζεσθε ἐν ὀνόματι Χριστοῦ
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 4:14, 4:16. Direct collision with Dogra Rajput izzat (honor) culture, whose instinct is to avoid/repair reproach at almost any cost; 1 Peter teaches such reproach borne for Christ’s name is itself a blessing and cause to glorify God, not a status injury to be defended.
Devil
Approved rendering: शैतान
Transliteration: shaitan
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Adversary
Original: διάβολος
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 5:8. Must be distinguished from any single named rakshasa/asura antagonist from local temple narrative (e.g. Ravana at Raghunath Mandir, or asuras defeated by Durga/Kali at Bahu Fort) already defeated within a closed local narrative. The biblical devil is an ongoing, actively ‘prowling,’ present-tense adversary requiring continual watchfulness.
Proclaimed
Approved rendering: गेआ ते प्रचार कीता
Transliteration: geya te prachar kita
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Original: κηρύσσω
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
New term. Occurs 3:19 and thematically linked to 4:6. Reuses the baseline प्रचार (mission) family; keep consistent with mission_to_nations usage elsewhere.
Baptism
Approved rendering: बपतिस्मा
Transliteration: baptisma
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
New term. Occurs 3:21. Leverage the text’s own built-in contrast (‘not a removal of dirt from the body but an appeal to God for a good conscience’) to distinguish from ritual bathing/purification (snana, pre-darshan purity rites) common in regional Hindu religious life.
Good Conscience
Approved rendering: जमीर
Transliteration: zameer
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: अंतरात्मा (built on आत्मा; Vedantic ātman association, avoid as primary rendering)
Original: συνείδησις ἀγαθή
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
New term. Occurs 2:19, 3:16, 3:21. जमीर avoids the metaphysical freight of अंतरात्मा, denoting the moral faculty of conscience without implying an inherently pure/divine inner self.
Submission
Approved rendering: अधीन होना
Transliteration: adhin hona
Doctrine: Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance
Original: ὑποτάγητε
Category: Submission to Authority
New term. Occurs 2:13, 2:18, 3:1, 3:22, 5:5. Must be Christlike, voluntary submission modeled on 2:21-23, not izzat-preservation, fear-based deference, or blanket endorsement of every hierarchy for its own sake.
Elders
Approved rendering: कलीसिया दे बुजुर्ग अगुवे
Transliteration: kalisiya de buzurg aguve
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Rejected alternatives: बुजुर्ग alone (risks age-honorific reading only)
Original: πρεσβύτεροι
Category: Elders and Humility
New term. Occurs 5:1, 5:5. बुजुर्ग alone risks being heard as honorific age-deference rather than a functional shepherding office defined by active care and explicitly warned against self-serving exercise. The compound with अगुवे (leaders) preserves both senses.
Humility
Approved rendering: नमरता
Transliteration: namrata
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: ταπεινοφροσύνη
Category: Elders and Humility
New term. Occurs 3:8, 5:5, 5:6. Voluntary, Christlike self-lowering, commanded even of leaders toward those they lead — sharply distinct from the obligatory, hierarchy-based deference expected within Dogra Rajput izzat culture, where deference flows upward, not downward from status-holders.
Not Domineering
Approved rendering: शरमनाक फायदे आस्तै नेईं…हुकम ना चलाओ
Transliteration: sharamnak fayde aastai nein…hukam na chalao
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: μὴ αἰσχροκερδῶς…μηδὲ κατακυριεύοντες
Category: Elders and Humility
New term. Occurs 5:2-3. Explicitly forbids eldership as a status/gain-seeking office — a real risk in an honor-culture context where authority naturally confers prestige. Shares its root with κύριος (Lord); elders must not act as ‘little lords.‘
Faithful Creator
Approved rendering: सिरजनहार
Transliteration: sirjanhaar
Doctrine: Providence and the Faithful Creator
Original: πιστὸς κτίστης
Category: Holiness in Conduct
New term. Occurs 4:19. Must be understood as the personal, faithful biblical Creator who can be relationally trusted amid suffering — not an impersonal cosmic first-principle, and not conflated with pantheistic creation frameworks (creation as emanation of, or identical with, the divine).
Mercy
Approved rendering: रहम
Transliteration: raham
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: दया alone (already inside the fixed grace-compound)
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation
New term. Occurs 1:3, the motive-cause of the new birth. Kept distinct from grace (बिना कमाई दित्ती दया); avoid दया alone to prevent the two doctrines collapsing into one term.
Love Agape
Approved rendering: प्यार
Transliteration: pyar
Doctrine: Mutual Love and Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: प्रेम (bhakti-devotional loading, Krishna-prem)
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith
New term. Occurs 1:8, 1:22, 4:8. प्रेम rejected as primary rendering because of strong bhakti-devotional loading; प्यार is relationally neutral and must always be taught with reference to its ground in Christ’s prior saving action, not autonomous devotional feeling.
Foreknowledge
Approved rendering: पहले तों जाणना
Transliteration: pahle ton jaanna
Doctrine: Election and Foreknowledge
Rejected alternatives: किस्मत (fate)
Original: πρόγνωσις
Category: Divine Calling
New term. Occurs 1:2, 1:20. Personal, relational foreknowing, never किस्मत-style predetermined destiny abstracted from God’s character, consistent with the baseline’s election/providence guard.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: भेजेआ होया
Transliteration: bhejea hoya
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: दूत (generic messenger)
Original: ἀπόστολος

Transliteration: aatmik daan
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: वरदान (deity-granted boon)
Original: χάρισμα
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter 4:10, framed as entrusted stewardship of God’s varied grace, not personal achievement.
Church
Approved rendering: कलीसिया
Transliteration: kalisiya
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: मंदर (temple)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, underlying 2:4-10, 4:17, 5:1-2 congregational references, including the compound कलीसिया दे बुजुर्ग अगुवे (elders).

Transliteration: gair-yahudi
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: विदेशी (too broad)
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, underlying 2:12 and 4:3’s description of the former Gentile way of life; use राष्ट्र for generic ‘nations’ contexts per baseline convention.
Peace
Approved rendering: शान्ति
Transliteration: shanti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 1 Peter, occurring in the salutation (1:2) and closing benediction (5:14).
Mission
Approved rendering: प्रचार दा कम्म
Transliteration: prachar da kamm
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Inherited from Romans package; the प्रचार root is reused for 1 Peter’s proclaimed/kēryssō vocabulary at 3:19 and 4:6, connecting Christ’s proclamation to the spirits to the letter’s broader proclamation vocabulary.
Undefiled
Approved rendering: बे-दाग
Transliteration: be-daag
Doctrine: Inheritance and Final Reward
Rejected alternatives: भिट्ट (ritual impurity)
Original: ἀμίαντος
Category: Eschatology
New term. Occurs 1:4. Moral/relational purity of the inheritance, not ritual cleanliness before darshan.
Spiritual House
Approved rendering: आत्मिक घर
Transliteration: aatmik ghar

Transliteration: apni khaas praja
Doctrine: The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Original: λαὸς εἰς περιποίησιν
Category: Church

Transliteration: ohde jakhman kannai tusaan theek hoe
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: τῷ μώλωπι…ἰάθητε
Category: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
New term. Occurs 2:24. Primarily spiritual healing from sin’s effect, echoing Isaiah 53; caution against a prosperity-gospel-style over-reading as a guarantee of physical healing detached from context.
Antitype
Approved rendering: मिलदा-जुलदा निशान
Transliteration: milda-julda nishaan
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Original: ἀντίτυπον
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

Transliteration: dootan, adhikaaran, samarthan…ohde adhin
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

Category: Submission to Authority
New term. Occurs 2:18. Requires a historical-slavery context note; not equivalent to modern paid employment.

Transliteration: adhikar
Doctrine: Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: Submission to Authority

New term. Occurs 1:14, 4:2-3. Use with care to avoid over-identifying with a generic philosophical ‘desire’ (kama) framework; this is specifically sinful craving contrasted with holy conduct.
Sojourner
Approved rendering: परदेसी
Transliteration: pardesi
Doctrine: Identity as Sojourners and Elect Exiles
Original: παρεπίδημος / πάροικος
Category: Church
New term. Occurs 1:1, 1:17, 2:11. Must convey spiritual/eschatological alien status — belonging ultimately to heaven, presently sojourning on earth — not merely ordinary geographic migration.
Honor
Approved rendering: आदर / मान
Transliteration: aadar / maan
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: इज्जत (Dogra Rajput lineage-honor culture, avoid as primary rendering)
Original: τιμή
Category: Suffering
New term. Occurs 1:7, 2:17, 3:7. Avoid इज्जत, which would recast God’s eschatological commendation as restored social status; आदर/मान keep the sense of honor without importing the honor-culture apparatus.
Outcome Goal
Approved rendering: मकसद / नतीजा
Transliteration: maksad / natija
Doctrine: Faith
Original: τέλος
Category: Faith
New term. Occurs 1:9, 4:7. Must be understood as ‘the intended goal reached,’ not ‘the point at which faith stops’; keep the two uses conceptually connected.
Living Word
Approved rendering: जिंदा बचन
Transliteration: jinda bachan
Doctrine: Salvation
Original: λόγος ζῶν
Category: Salvation
New term. Occurs 1:23, 1:25. Echoes जिंदा आस/जिंदा पत्थर for thematic consistency; वचन/बचन also carries parallel devotional resonance in regional Sikh Gurbani usage — generally safe, worth noting.
Household Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर दा घराणा / परिवार
Transliteration: Parmeshwar da gharana / parivar
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Original: οἶκος θεοῦ
Category: Church

Shepherd Overseer
Approved rendering: चरवाहा / निगराणी करने वाला
Transliteration: charvaha / nigrani karne vala
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: ποιμήν / ἐπίσκοπος
Category: Elders and Humility
New term. Occurs 2:25, 5:2. Minor incidental resonance with Krishna’s popular identity as the divine cowherd (Govinda/Gopāla) — likely manageable given how broadly biblical the shepherd metaphor is; brief translator awareness note only.
Fear
Approved rendering: डर / भे
Transliteration: dar / bhe
Doctrine: Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance
Original: φόβος
Category: Submission to Authority
New term. Occurs 1:17, 2:17, 3:6, 3:14. Context-sensitive like the baseline’s ‘called’: reverent fear/awe of God (positive) must be distinguished from anxious fear of human threats, which 3:6 and 3:14 explicitly forbid.

Transliteration: Babylon
Doctrine: Church as God’s People

Critical (heightened — hardest passage in the book) Risk Terms
Spirits In Prison
Approved rendering: कैद च बंद आत्मां
Transliteration: kaid ch band aatman
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
Original: τὰ ἐν φυλακῇ πνεύματα
Category: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits
New term. Occurs 3:19. आत्मा used ONLY here in this bracketed, contextually-marked sense — never for the human soul (जिंद, always) and never unqualified for the Holy Spirit (पवित्तर आत्मा). Guard against folk-spirit/ancestor-veneration associations (bhoot/pret; local martyr-shrine cults such as Baba Jitto at Aghar Jitto). Requires a documented, theologian-approved statement of the standing interpretive options (Noah-generation disobedient dead; fallen angelic beings; descent to the place of the dead) before Phase 2 may process this passage — treated as harder than a standard Critical term.
