Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — Philippians 1–4
Purpose
This document provides the full doctrine matrix for Philippians, chapter by chapter, section by section, from 1:1 to 4:23. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: every doctrine named there appears here at the same risk tier, and no tier is lowered. Philippians 2:1-11 (the kenosis hymn) is the theological anchor of this curriculum, but per the PRD Phase 1 mandate this analysis covers the entire book. Sections that introduce no new doctrine or term beyond what is already registered are explicitly marked “Reviewed — no new doctrine” rather than silently omitted.
Risk tiers and review routing follow the baseline Romans doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions:
- Critical → Human theologian review, every occurrence
- High → Human theologian review
- Medium → Native speaker review recommended
- Low → Automated review sufficient
Chapter 1
| Passage | Doctrine | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1-2 | Servant Identity in Christ (Paul & Timothy as δοῦλοι) | High | Full slave-status (दास) must not be softened to “helper” or “servant-leader”; direct, intentional collision with Dogra Rajput izzat culture. | Human theologian |
| 1:1 | Church Leadership Offices (overseers, deacons) | Medium | कलीसिया दे निगरान must not be confused with a temple priest; सेवक(deacon) resonates with Sikh sewa — teach as formal office, not generic volunteerism. | Native speaker review |
| 1:3-8 | Thanksgiving | Low | Standard term धन्नवाद; minor over-ritualization risk only. | Automated review |
| 1:3-8 | Partnership in the Gospel | Medium | खरी खबर च साझ must convey mutual giving-and-receiving in gospel work, not one-directional charity or generic social fellowship. | Native speaker review |
| 1:9-11 | Growth in love and discernment (sanctification, general) | — | Reviewed — no new doctrine beyond baseline sanctification (Romans registry). No new term introduced; भरोसा/पवित्तरता roots apply unchanged. | Native speaker review (baseline tier) |
| 1:12-14 | Imprisonment as Gospel Advance | High | कैद/जंजीरां must retain the real dishonor weight of imprisonment in izzat culture while being explicitly reframed as gospel-advancing, not softened into neutral “difficulty.” | Human theologian |
| 1:15-18 | Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | High | खुशी must be distinguished from mannat-fulfillment happiness (a wish granted through a shrine vow); joy here is gospel-grounded regardless of others’ mixed motives. | Human theologian |
| 1:15-18 | Selfish Ambition and Vainglory | Medium | खुद-गरजी; no additional risk beyond registry entry. | Native speaker review |
| 1:19-21 | ”To live is Christ, to die is gain” | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. Thematically connects Joy in Suffering (High) and Resurrection Hope (Critical, ch. 3) but introduces no new term; existing guardrails apply. | Human theologian (by association) |
| 1:22-26 | Desire to depart and be with Christ / remaining for the church’s progress | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. Intermediate-state language is pastorally sensitive but not a separately registered doctrine; flagged for monitoring only, must not be conflated with the Citizenship in Heaven doctrine of 1:27/3:20, which is distinct and Critical. | Native speaker review (monitoring) |
| 1:27-30 | Citizenship in Heaven | Critical | स्वर्गीय नागरिकता; NEW guardrail (no Romans-baseline precedent) — must be distinguished from popular Hindu cosmology’s temporary svarga and from any single deity’s heavenly domain. | Human theologian |
| 1:27-30 | Unity and Humility in the Church | High | Regarding others as more important than oneself cuts directly against izzat rank-consciousness; must not be softened. | Human theologian |
| 1:29 | Suffering for Christ as Grace-Gift | Critical | New extension of the baseline grace guardrail; suffering placed in the same grace-gift category as faith — must be distinguished from karma-retribution and mannat-vow cost logic. | Human theologian |
| 1:29 | Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | High | (Continued from above.) | Human theologian |
Chapter 2
| Passage | Doctrine | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2:1 | Fellowship of the Holy Spirit | High | Combination of संगत + पवित्तर आत्मा must not collapse into generic spiritual camaraderie (e.g., shrine-gathering/mela devotion); this is fellowship produced by the indwelling, personal Spirit. | Human theologian |
| 2:1-4 | Unity and Humility in the Church | High | Core appeal passage; नमरता must be taught as voluntary Christlike self-giving from strength, never imposed degradation or ritual self-abasement. | Human theologian |
| 2:2, 2:5 | Christlike Mindset (φρονέω) | High | सोच रक्खणा must be rendered identically at all 10 occurrences across the letter (2:2, 2:5, 3:15, 3:19, 4:2, 4:10, and related forms) to preserve the literary/theological thread. | Human theologian |
| 2:3 | Selfish Ambition and Vainglory | Medium | खाली हऊमे carries Sikh theological resonance (ego overcome through meditation on the divine Name); must not import Sikh ego-dissolution as the implied solution. | Native speaker review |
| 2:3-4 | Regarding Others as More Important than Oneself | Medium | दुए गी आप्पू थमां बड्डा समझणा must not be softened into generic politeness; directly challenges inherited rank-consciousness. | Native speaker review |
| 2:5-8 | Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis) | Critical | CORE PASSAGE. आपणे आप्प खाली कीता (ἐκένωσεν) must never imply Christ ceased being divine; must not read as one avatar-descent among Rama’s avatars at the Dogra-royal-patronized Raghunath Mandir. अवतार forbidden throughout. | Human theologian |
| 2:6 | Pre-existence of Christ | Critical | पैह्लें थमां ही होणा — eternal antecedent existence, not a status attained on this occasion. | Human theologian |
| 2:6 | Deity of Christ (μορφῇ θεοῦ, ἴσα θεῷ) | Critical | परमेश्वर सारगा बराबर must convey full ontological equality, never graded/relative divinity familiar from avatar or goddess (Vaishno Devi/Bahu Fort) frameworks. | Human theologian |
| 2:7-8 | Humanity of Christ | High | दास दा रूप / मनुक्खां सांगी रूप / बाहरी दिखणा must affirm genuine, permanent humanity — not an illusory māyā-style appearance-form. | Human theologian |
| 2:6-8 | Humility of Christ | High | Christ’s self-humbling to a slave’s death directly confronts izzat culture; this is the theological ground making the ethical appeal of 2:3-4 credible and non-degrading. | Human theologian |
| 2:8 | ”Obedient unto death, even death of the cross” | High/Critical | क्रूस पर मौत must retain the full ancient scandal (a slave/criminal’s death); must not be equated with Baba Jitto’s honorable folk-martyrdom. | Human theologian |
| 2:9 | Exaltation of Christ | High | सारें थमां उप्पर उच्चा कीता (ὑπερύψωσεν) is intensified beyond ordinary praise language; must match the totality of the preceding self-humbling. | Human theologian |
| 2:9 | Deity of Christ (“name above every name”) | Critical | सारें नांऽ थमां उच्चा नां refers to the divine Name/rank itself, not mere fame or title. | Human theologian |
| 2:10-11 | Lordship of Christ | Critical | Universal bowing/confession is homage owed to Christ as God, not a boon-seeking devotional gesture performed before images at Vaishno Devi or Raghunath Mandir. महाराजा forbidden. | Human theologian |
| 2:11 | Confession of Christ as Lord | High | Must be rendered identically in wording to the Romans 10:9-10 salvation confession across the whole curriculum library. | Human theologian |
| 2:12-13 | Working Out Salvation | Critical | आपणे उद्धार गी अमली रूप देणा must never be read as salvation earned by effort; it is the outworking of a salvation already given by grace, not a vow-and-effort mannat economy. | Human theologian |
| 2:13 | Providence: God’s Work in Believers | High | परमेश्वर जेह्ड़ा अंदर कम्म करदा है — never किस्मत (fate); personal, purposive activity. | Human theologian |
| 2:14-16 | Shining as lights, blameless in a crooked generation | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. General holiness/sanctification exhortation; baseline पवित्तर/पवित्तरता terms apply unchanged. | Native speaker review (baseline tier) |
| 2:17-18 | Sacrificial Giving and Service (poured out as a libation) | High | डोल्हे गेदे चढ़ावे सारगा वग्गाया जाना risks being reheard through puja-offering logic; must rest on gratitude for Christ’s finished sacrifice. | Human theologian |
| 2:17-18 | Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | High | (Continued.) | Human theologian |
| 2:19-24 | Commendation of Timothy | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. General praise for genuine, Christlike concern; no new term. | Native speaker review |
| 2:25-30 | Commendation of Epaphroditus (apostolos/“messenger,” fellow soldier, risked his life) | Medium/Low | भेजेआ होया used in a generic sense (Epaphroditus as “your messenger”), distinct from apostolic-office use; साथी सिपाही and आपणी जिंद जोखम च पाई are Low risk. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 3
| Passage | Doctrine | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3:1 | ”Rejoice in the Lord” | — | Reviewed — continuation of Joy in Suffering thread (High), no new term. | Human theologian (by association) |
| 3:2-6 | Righteousness by Faith versus the Law | Critical | This is the Philippians parallel to Romans’ central justification argument; धरम must never substitute for व्यवस्था or धरमीपन, precisely where Paul rejects inherited pedigree as a ground of righteousness. | Human theologian |
| 3:5 | Circumcision and Jewish Identity | Medium | खतना must be taught as the Old Covenant identity marker Paul now counts as insufficient apart from Christ, not confused with a local rite of passage. | Native speaker review |
| 3:7-9 | The Supreme Worth of Knowing Christ | High | कचरा (σκύβαλα, “rubbish/dung”) must retain real rhetorical force in formal register without sanitizing or crossing into vulgarity. | Human theologian |
| 3:9 | Righteousness by Faith versus the Law (imputed righteousness) | Critical | गिनी गेई धरमीपन — credited, not earned (कमाई गेई धरमीपन explicitly rejected). | Human theologian |
| 3:10 | Participation in Christ’s Sufferings | High | मसीह दे दुखां च साझ must be distinguished from a karma-based suffering framework; willing participation joined to resurrection hope, not passive fate. | Human theologian |
| 3:10-11 | Resurrection Hope | Critical | Never पुनर्जन्म. This is one-time bodily resurrection, not a rebirth cycle. | Human theologian |
| 3:12-14 | Pressing on toward the Goal in Christ | High | ईनाम (prize) must remain firmly subordinate to the grace guardrail established at 3:9 — the goal of a grace-given life, not a merit earned by disciplined pursuit. | Human theologian |
| 3:14 | Calling (the upward call) | High | सद्द — reused from baseline; never किस्मत. | Human theologian |
| 3:15-16 | Christian Maturity | High | पूरे तरीके कन्नै सयाणे — NEVER सिद्ध (siddha), the yogic/tantric term for a perfected being with supernatural powers. | Human theologian |
| 3:15 | Christlike Mindset | High | Same φρονέω consistency requirement as 2:2/2:5. | Human theologian |
| 3:17-19 | Enemies of the Cross (“god is their belly”) | Medium | Preserve the vivid polemical hyperbole without flattening to a mild moral warning; rhetorical, not a literal deity-claim. | Native speaker review |
| 3:19 | Christlike Mindset (negative example) | High | Same φρονέω consistency requirement. | Human theologian |
| 3:20 | Citizenship in Heaven | Critical | स्वर्गीय नागरिकता; NEW guardrail — स्वर्ग distinguished from temporary Hindu svarga within the rebirth cycle and from any single deity’s heavenly domain. | Human theologian |
| 3:20-21 | The Savior and Bodily Transformation | Critical | उद्धारकर्ता must not read as one savior-figure among several regionally venerated deliverer-figures; रूप बदलेगा is a ONE-TIME change of the SAME body, never reincarnation-cycle language. | Human theologian |
| 3:21 | Resurrection Hope (transformation, conformed to) | Critical | Continuation of resurrection guardrail; सांगी रूप बणना is progressive, Spirit-wrought conformity, not self-effort or cyclical rebirth. | Human theologian |
Chapter 4
| Passage | Doctrine | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4:1 | ”Stand firm” exhortation | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. Continuation of Unity and Humility (High) theme; no new term. | Human theologian (by association) |
| 4:2-3 | Christlike Mindset (Euodia and Syntyche urged to agree) | High | Same φρονέω consistency requirement. | Human theologian |
| 4:2-3 | Unity and Humility in the Church | High | Concrete named-persons application of the 2:1-4 appeal; no doctrinal softening permitted. | Human theologian |
| 4:4 | Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | High | ”Rejoice always” — command, not conditioned on circumstance; must not be reheard as mannat-fulfillment happiness. | Human theologian |
| 4:6-7 | Anxiety Replaced by Prayer | Medium | फिकर करना / बिचाल्ले होइयै बिनती — direct, unmediated access to God, distinguished from mediated petitionary practice at pilgrimage shrines. | Native speaker review |
| 4:7 | The Peace of God | Medium | जेह्ी समझ थमां बड्डी ऐ — distinguished from psychological calm attainable through meditative/yogic technique; this peace guards, it is not self-produced. | Native speaker review |
| 4:8-9 | ”Think on these things” (virtue list) | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. General ethical exhortation connecting to Christian Maturity (High, ch. 3); no new term introduced. | Native speaker review |
| 4:10 | Christlike Mindset | High | Same φρονέω consistency requirement (10th and final occurrence). | Human theologian |
| 4:11-13 | Contentment in All Circumstances | Critical | NEW guardrail — संतोख is a major Sikh virtue-term (Five Virtues) and resonates with Hindu vairagya; Pauline contentment must be repeatedly taught as Christ-empowered and relational, not self-achieved detachment. | Human theologian |
| 4:12 | ”I have learned the secret” (μεμύημαι) | Critical | NEVER दीक्षा (guru-initiation into esoteric knowledge). Contentment is lived Christ-dependent experience, not ritual/esoteric transmission. | Human theologian |
| 4:13 | Providence / Power of God (“he who strengthens me”) | High | सामर्थ दिन्दा ऐ — reuses सामर्थ root; never शक्ति. This is the Christ-dependence that directly answers the contentment guardrail. | Human theologian |
| 4:14-17 | Partnership in the Gospel | Medium | खरी खबर च साझ — mutual giving-and-receiving in gospel work, not one-directional charity. | Native speaker review |
| 4:15-17 | Mutual Giving and Receiving | Medium | दिन्ना ते लैना — commercial/accounting metaphor for a real, mutual, material gospel partnership; must not flatten into one-directional almsgiving. | Native speaker review |
| 4:18 | Sacrificial Giving and Service (acceptable sacrifice, sweet aroma) | High | सुगन्ध सारगी, प्रवान होई गेई बलिदान risks being reheard through Hindu puja-offering logic (dhoop, naivedya, aarti) or conflated with Baba Jitto’s venerated folk-martyrdom balidan; must rest on Christ’s finished, once-for-all sacrifice. | Human theologian |
| 4:19-20 | God’s supply and providence; doxology | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. Connects to Providence (High) and general doxology (महिमा, baseline term); no new term introduced. | Native speaker review |
| 4:21-23 | Closing greetings and benediction (“grace be with you”) | — | Reviewed — no new registry doctrine. Closing grace-benediction reuses baseline बिना कमाई दित्ती दया / grace term (Critical, per Romans baseline) exactly; no deviation permitted. | Human theologian (baseline tier, by reuse) |
Summary Table (Consistency Check against doctrine_risk_registry.json)
| Risk Tier | Doctrine Count (registry) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 11 | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| High | 16 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 9 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 1 | Automated review |
| Total registered doctrines | 37 | 27 theologian / 9 native speaker / 1 automated |
Sections reviewed with no new doctrine introduced (explicitly noted per full-book coverage mandate): 1:9-11, 1:19-21, 1:22-26, 2:14-16, 2:19-24, 3:1, 4:1, 4:8-9, 4:19-20, 4:21-23. Each of these carries forward an already-registered doctrine or baseline term without introducing new translation risk; none is silently omitted from this analysis.
This document is consistent with and must be read alongside assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (v1) and analysis/08_core_glossary.md. No risk tier here contradicts the registry. Philippians 2:1-11 remains the theological anchor of the curriculum; this matrix demonstrates that the anchor’s doctrines (Kenosis, Deity/Sonship/Lordship of Christ, Unity and Humility) recur and are reinforced throughout the rest of the letter, rather than existing in isolation from it.
Critical Risk Doctrines
The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Dogri name: मसीह दा मानखे दा रूप लैना ते आपणे आप्प खाली करना
Key terms: form_of_god, thing_to_be_grasped, emptied_himself, form_of_a_servant, likeness_of_men, outward_fashion
Review routing: Human theologian
The doctrine’s namesake term ἐκένωσεν (‘emptied himself’) has no Romans-baseline precedent and must never imply Christ ceased being divine. Combined with μορφὴ θεοῦ, this passage sits directly against Raghunath Mandir’s Rama-avatar devotion, a major Dogra-royal-patronized temple tradition; अवतार must never be used anywhere in this passage.
Pre-existence of Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दा पैह्लें थमां होणा
Key terms: pre_existing, form_of_god, equal_with_god
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s eternal, antecedent existence ‘in the form of God’ must not be read as a divine status attained or descended into on this occasion, which would collapse into an avatar-descent narrative already prestigious in local Rama devotion.
Deity of Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दा ईश्वरत्व
Key terms: equal_with_god, form_of_god, name_above_every_name, lord
Review routing: Human theologian
Full, co-equal divine nature must be retained; ἴσα θεῷ must never be softened into ‘a great being close to God,’ which would import the graded-divinity framework familiar from avatar theology and Vaishno Devi/Bahu Fort goddess devotion.
Lordship of Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दा प्रभुपन
Key terms: lord, every_knee_shall_bow, confess_jesus_is_lord
Review routing: Human theologian
Never महाराजा, the historic Dogra dynastic royal title; and the universal bowing/confession must be taught as homage owed to Christ as God, distinct from the boon-seeking devotional gestures performed before images at Vaishno Devi or Raghunath Mandir.
Suffering for Christ as Grace-Gift
Dogri name: दुःख गी दया दे रूप च दित्ता जाना
Key terms: suffering_granted_as_grace, grace
Review routing: Human theologian
Placing suffering in the same grace-gift category as faith is a genuinely new extension of the baseline grace guardrail; must be distinguished sharply from a karma-based suffering framework (retribution for past-life action) and from mannat-vow cost paid to secure future blessing.
Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Dogri name: व्यवस्था दे मुकाबले भरोसे कन्नै धरमीपन
Key terms: righteousness, law, faith, imputed_righteousness, rubbish_dung, circumcision
Review routing: Human theologian
This is the Philippians parallel to Romans’ central justification argument and must use the exact baseline terms for consistency; धरम must never be substituted for व्यवस्था or धरमीपन, given Dogra Rajput lineage-duty associations, precisely where Paul is rejecting inherited pedigree as a ground of righteousness.
Resurrection Hope
Dogri name: जी उठने दी आस
Key terms: resurrection, transform_resurrection_body, conformed_to
Review routing: Human theologian
Must never use पुनर्जन्म; the resurrection-body transformation of 3:21 is a ONE-TIME change of the SAME body into permanent glorified form, not a series of rebirths into successive different bodies, a distinction with no everyday Dogri equivalent that must be taught explicitly.
Citizenship in Heaven
Dogri name: स्वर्गीय नागरिकता
Key terms: citizenship, heaven
Review routing: Human theologian
NEW GUARDRAIL not present in the Romans baseline: स्वर्ग must be distinguished from popular Hindu cosmology’s svarga, a temporary heavenly reward within the rebirth cycle and/or a particular deity’s heavenly domain (Vishnu at Raghunath Mandir; the goddess at Vaishno Devi/Bahu Fort); biblical heaven is the believer’s permanent, eternal home entered once through resurrection. नागरिकता also risks a merely secular-nationality reading. Recommend adding स्वर्ग to the forbidden-substitution list alongside मुक्ति and पुनर्जन्म.
The Savior and Bodily Transformation
Dogri name: उद्धारकर्ता ते रूप बदलणा
Key terms: savior, transform_resurrection_body
Review routing: Human theologian
उद्धारकर्ता must not read as one savior-figure among several regionally venerated deliverer-figures; the transformation awaited from him is a one-time bodily change, never reincarnation-cycle language.
Contentment in All Circumstances
Dogri name: हर हाल च संतोख
Key terms: content_self_sufficient, strengthens_me, learned_the_secret
Review routing: Human theologian
NEW GUARDRAIL not present in the Romans baseline: संतोख is a major, prestigious Sikh virtue-term (one of the Five Virtues, cultivated through spiritual discipline) with related resonance in Hindu vairagya; Pauline contentment must be explicitly, repeatedly taught as Christ-empowered and relational, not self-achieved detachment. Additionally, μεμύημαι must never be rendered with दीक्षा (guru-initiation into esoteric knowledge).
Working Out Salvation
Dogri name: आपणे उद्धार गी अमली रूप देणा
Key terms: work_out_salvation, salvation, grace
Review routing: Human theologian
Must never be read as salvation earned by effort; this is the reverent, lived outworking of a salvation already given by grace, not the vow-and-effort economy of mannat-fulfillment at a shrine.
High Risk Doctrines
Humanity of Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दी मनुक्खता
Key terms: form_of_a_servant, likeness_of_men, outward_fashion
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s humanity must be taught as real and permanent, not an illusory māyā-style appearance-form taken on temporarily, a live devotional category regionally where a deity’s human story-form can be understood as provisional.
Humility of Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दी नमरता
Key terms: humility, obedient_unto_death, death_of_the_cross
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s self-humbling to the point of a slave’s death directly confronts Dogra Rajput izzat (honor/lineage) culture, in which voluntary self-lowering and death by a dishonorable method are normally read as loss of status; this must be taught as the theological ground making the ethical appeal to human humility (2:3-4) credible and non-degrading.
Exaltation of Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दी उच्चाई
Key terms: highly_exalted, name_above_every_name
Review routing: Human theologian
The intensified compound ὑπερύψωσεν must not be diminished to ordinary praise language; the exaltation is the direct answer to, and matches the totality of, Christ’s preceding self-humbling.
Confession of Christ as Lord
Dogri name: मसीह दी मनौती
Key terms: confess_jesus_is_lord, lord, jesus, messiah
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be rendered identically in wording to the Romans 10:9-10 salvation confession across the curriculum library, since both describe the same doctrinal confession.
Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment
Dogri name: दुःख च खुशी
Key terms: joy, bonds_imprisonment, gospel
Review routing: Human theologian
Joy grounded in Christ and gospel-advance, commanded even amid imprisonment, must be distinguished from the transactional happiness of a wish granted through a mannat vow at Vaishno Devi and must not be conditioned on favorable circumstance.
Imprisonment as Gospel Advance
Dogri name: कैद ते खरी खबर दा फैलणा
Key terms: bonds_imprisonment, gospel
Review routing: Human theologian
In Dogra Rajput izzat culture imprisonment is a marker of deep dishonor; Paul’s reframing of his chains as gospel-advancing and joy-producing directly confronts this honor-shame instinct and must not be softened into a merely neutral ‘difficulty.‘
Unity and Humility in the Church
Dogri name: कलीसिया च एकता ते नमरता
Key terms: mindset, humility, selfish_ambition, empty_conceit, esteem_others_as_greater, united_in_soul
Review routing: Human theologian
Regarding others as more important than oneself cuts directly against Dogra Rajput izzat rank-consciousness; this must not be softened, and नमरता must be taught as voluntary Christlike self-giving from strength, not imposed degradation.
Christlike Mindset
Dogri name: मसीह सारगी सोच
Key terms: mindset
Review routing: Human theologian
φρονέω/सोच रक्खणा must be rendered identically at all ten occurrences across the letter; a shifting translation would obscure the recurring literary and theological thread linking the unity appeal to the Christ-hymn.
Fellowship of the Holy Spirit
Dogri name: पवित्तर आत्मा दी संगत
Key terms: fellowship_of_the_spirit, holy_spirit, fellowship
Review routing: Human theologian
This is fellowship specifically produced by the indwelling, personal Holy Spirit, not generic spiritual camaraderie such as at a shrine gathering or communal mela devotion; the combination of संगत and पवित्तर आत्मा must be taught carefully to avoid this collapse.
Servant Identity in Christ
Dogri name: मसीह दे दास दे रूप च पछान
Key terms: servant_self_designation, form_of_a_servant
Review routing: Human theologian
Paul’s proud self-designation as Christ’s slave, and Christ’s own taking of a slave’s form, both collide directly with Dogra Rajput izzat culture, where slave-status is deeply dishonorable; this collision is intentional and instructive and must not be softened into ‘helper’ or ‘servant-leader.‘
The Supreme Worth of Knowing Christ
Dogri name: मसीह गी जानने दी सारें थमां बड्डी कीमत
Key terms: rubbish_dung, righteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
Paul’s rhetorically extreme σκύβαλα (‘rubbish/dung’) for his entire prior religious pedigree must retain real force in formal register, without sanitizing into mild ‘less important’ or crossing into vulgarity.
Participation in Christ’s Sufferings
Dogri name: मसीह दे दुखां च साझ
Key terms: fellowship_of_sufferings
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be distinguished from a karma-based suffering framework (impersonal retribution for past action); this is willing, meaningful participation joined to resurrection hope, not a fate to be passively endured.
Pressing on toward the Goal in Christ
Dogri name: निशाने आस्तै अग्गे बधणा
Key terms: pressing_on_prize_goal, calling
Review routing: Human theologian
ईनाम (‘prize’) must be kept firmly subordinate to the grace guardrail already established for righteousness by faith (3:9) — the goal of a grace-given life in Christ, not a merit earned by disciplined pursuit itself.
Christian Maturity
Dogri name: मसीही सयानपन
Key terms: mature_perfect
Review routing: Human theologian
NEVER सिद्ध (siddha), the North Indian yogic/tantric term for a spiritually perfected being with supernatural powers; Christian maturity is ongoing, relational Christlikeness, not attainment of yogic perfection.
Sacrificial Giving and Service
Dogri name: बलिदान सारगा दान
Key terms: acceptable_sacrifice, poured_out_libation, sacrifice_and_service
Review routing: Human theologian
Old Testament sacrificial-offering imagery applied to Christian giving and ministry is at real risk of being reheard through the lens of Hindu puja offerings (dhoop, naivedya, aarti) presented to secure divine favor; must be taught as gratitude resting on Christ’s finished, once-for-all sacrifice, distinct also from Baba Jitto’s locally venerated folk-martyrdom balidan.
Providence: God’s Work in Believers
Dogri name: परमेश्वर दा विश्वासियां च कम्म करना
Key terms: working_god, providence
Review routing: Human theologian
Never किस्मत (fate); God’s effective, internal work producing the believer’s own will and action is personal and purposive, not impersonal destiny.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Selfish Ambition and Vainglory
Dogri name: खुद-गरजी ते खाली हऊमे
Key terms: selfish_ambition, empty_conceit
Review routing: Native speaker review
खाली हऊमे carries Sikh theological resonance (ego overcome through meditation on the divine Name); must not import Sikh ego-dissolution as the implied solution, since Paul’s answer is Christlike humility, not meditative technique.
Regarding Others as More Important than Oneself
Dogri name: दुए गी आप्पू थमां बड्डा समझणा
Key terms: esteem_others_as_greater
Review routing: Native speaker review
Directly challenges inherited rank-consciousness within izzat-honor culture; the instruction must not be softened into generic politeness.
Church Leadership Offices
Dogri name: कलीसिया दे ओहदे
Key terms: overseer, deacon, church
Review routing: Native speaker review
Overseer must not be confused with a temple priest role; deacon’s सेवा root resonates with Sikh sewa and must be taught as a formally recognized church office, not generic volunteerism.
Circumcision and Jewish Identity
Dogri name: खतना ते यहूदी पछान
Key terms: circumcision, israel
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must be taught as the Old Covenant identity marker Paul now counts as insufficient apart from Christ, not confused with any local rite of passage, and without devaluing ethnic Israel itself.
Anxiety Replaced by Prayer
Dogri name: फिकर ते प्रार्थना
Key terms: anxious_worry, intercession
Review routing: Native speaker review
Direct, unmediated access to God in prayer must be distinguished from mediated petitionary practice associated with pilgrimage and shrine vows.
The Peace of God
Dogri name: परमेश्वर दी शान्ति
Key terms: peace_surpassing_understanding, peace
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must be distinguished from psychological calm attainable through one’s own meditative or yogic technique; this peace guards the heart and mind rather than being produced by the mind’s own discipline.
Partnership in the Gospel
Dogri name: खरी खबर च साझ
Key terms: partnership_in_the_gospel, fellowship, gospel
Review routing: Native speaker review
Elevated beyond the baseline’s general Low-risk संगत sense; must convey mutual giving-and-receiving in gospel work, not one-directional charity, and not confused with generic social fellowship.
Mutual Giving and Receiving
Dogri name: दिन्ना ते लैना
Key terms: giving_and_receiving, partnership_in_the_gospel
Review routing: Native speaker review
Commercial/accounting metaphor for a real, mutual, material gospel partnership; must not be flattened into one-directional almsgiving.
Enemies of the Cross
Dogri name: क्रूस दे बैरी
Key terms: enemies_of_the_cross_belly
Review routing: Native speaker review
Preserve the vivid, polemical hyperbole of appetite functionally worshiped as a god; rhetorical, not a literal deity-claim, and should not be flattened into a mild moral warning.
