Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Luke (English → Dogri)
Purpose
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md across the whole of Luke’s Gospel (chapters 1-24), for direct loading into Phase 2 translation memory alongside the Romans baseline. Terms already established in the Romans translation_memory.json are marked “Reused” and must be rendered exactly as recorded there — no deviation permitted. Terms newly required by Luke’s distinct doctrinal content are marked “New” and are proposed here for theologian confirmation and addition to translation memory before Phase 2 begins.
Risk tiers follow the Romans baseline definitions exactly:
- Critical — mistranslation destroys essential doctrine; human theologian review of every occurrence required.
- High — significant theological confusion/syncretism risk; human theologian review required.
- Medium — clarity reduced but core meaning preserved; native speaker review recommended.
- Low — minor imprecision risk; automated review sufficient.

Critical Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: बिना कमाई दित्ती दया
Transliteration: bina kamai ditti daya
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: मन्नत दा फल (Vaishno Devi vow-boon, never use), पुण्य (earned merit, never use)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Luke 1:30 uses χάρις in the lighter register ‘favor found’; render Luke 1:30 with a lighter phrase while reserving this full Critical compound for the technical soteriological doctrine elsewhere in the curriculum’s cross-references.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धरमीपन
Transliteration: dharmipan
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: धरम (avoid Dogra Rajput lineage/honor duty sense)
Inherited from Romans package. Root of the doctrine underlying Luke 18:9-14’s justification language; never bare धरम.
Justification
Approved rendering: धर्मी ठहराए जाना
Transliteration: dharmi thehrae jana
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: माफी मिलना (forgiveness received, too narrow)
Inherited from Romans package. Relevant at Luke 18:14 (‘this man went down to his house justified’); must be kept distinct from पापां दी माफी (forgiveness of sins), the narrower guilt-release sense.

Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति (liberation from rebirth, never use), मनोकामना पूरी होना (shrine-vow boon granted, never use)

Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: महाराजा (historic Dogra dynastic title, never use)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Luke 1:43, 2:11, 5:8, 19:38, 20:41-44; never महाराजा, which would frame Christ’s Lordship as political-historical.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर दा पुत्तर
Transliteration: Parmeshwar da puttar
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: अवतार (avatar-descent, explicit downgrade, never use)
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ / υἱὸς ὑψίστου

Inherited from Romans package. Luke 1:32, 1:35, 3:22, 4:3, 4:9, 9:35, 22:70; never one avatar among Vishnu’s recognized avatars, given Raghunath Mandir’s Rama devotion.

Transliteration: masih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Luke 2:11, 2:26, 3:15, 4:41, 9:20, 22:67, 23:35; not one avatar or deity among many venerated locally.

Transliteration: uddhar karne wala
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Rejected alternatives: त्राता (unfamiliar Sanskritized loan), generic avatar-framing
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Salvation
Built on the established Critical उद्धार root (Luke 1:47, 2:11). Never presented as one of several available divine benefactors alongside Rama, Kali, or the Vaishno Devi goddess. Luke 2:11 joins Savior, Christ, and Lord in one verse; all three must appear together without qualification.
