Core Glossary

Core Glossary: 2 Chronicles — Portuguese Language Package

This glossary lists every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning 2 Chronicles chapters 1–36. Terms already present in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked (baseline reuse) and their recorded Portuguese rendering is repeated exactly, per the hard rule that established renderings must never be altered. New terms proper to this curriculum are marked (new) and proposed for addition to translation_memory.json in the corresponding Phase 1 Step 8 update. Risk tiers follow the Critical/High/Medium/Low framework defined in doctrine_risk_registry.json.

God’s providential influence on a human king’s will, not the indwelling Holy Spirit and not an external discarnate guide.

Baseline Terms Reused Without Modification in This Curriculum

The following baseline translation_memory.json entries recur throughout 2 Chronicles and MUST be rendered exactly as recorded in the Romans Language Package, with no deviation: Deus (Deus), Senhor (Senhor — note: 2 Chronicles’ divine name YHWH/Adonai is rendered SENHOR, small-caps convention per Almeida tradition, consistent with baseline usage), Davi (Davi), Israel (Israel), aliança (covenant), lei (law), pecado (sin), glória (glory), santo/santos/santificação (holy/saints/sanctification), profeta (prophet), chamado (called/calling), eleição (election), providência (providence), intercessão (intercession), graça (grace), (faith), salvação (salvation), reino de Deus (kingdom of God — contextually distinguished from the political reino of Israel/Judah), gentios (gentiles), Messias (Messiah — trajectory term for Davidic Covenant fulfillment), Espírito Santo (Holy Spirit — carefully disambiguated from other OT uses of ruach).

Terms requiring mandatory human theologian review (Critical/High): #1, 2, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20 (Davidic trajectory), 21, 22, 23, 25, 31, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 43, 45, 47, 48, 50, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 59, 60, 62.

Distinctively Brazilian risks with no direct Romans-baseline precedent: #38 (vidente/seer-clairvoyant collision), #50 (Páscoa/Passover-Easter homonymy), #52 (dízimo/prosperity-gospel framing), #54–55 (mediums/spiritists/sorcery — the single most direct textual collision with mainstream Brazilian religious practice in this Language Package), #62 (espírito/spirit-guide disambiguation).

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: Deus
Transliteration: theos / Elohim / YHWH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ

Inherited from Romans package. Standard and unambiguous throughout 2 Chronicles as Israel’s covenant God. 2 Chronicles-specific caution: Candomblé/Umbanda orixás are sometimes syncretized with Catholic saints, which can blur exclusive monotheism if the book’s repeated ‘other gods’ condemnation formula (see serve_other_gods) is not taught with full force.

Lord

Approved rendering: Senhor
Transliteration: kyrios
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ

Inherited from Romans package. Reserved for the NT confession of Christ’s exclusive lordship. Do NOT use for the OT covenant name YHWH in 2 Chronicles; see the new entry ‘yhwh_senhor’ (SENHOR, small capitals) for that distinct, book-specific usage.

Yhwh Senhor

Approved rendering: SENHOR
Transliteration: YHWH / Adonai (Kyrios in LXX)
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Jeová (associated with Jehovah’s Witnesses translations), Iavé (non-standard transliteration outside the Almeida tradition)

New entry extending, not contradicting, baseline ‘lord.’ 2 Chronicles’ pervasive use of the covenant name YHWH is rendered SENHOR (small capitals) per the Almeida tradition (ARA/NVI), typographically distinguished from generic ‘senhor’ and from baseline ‘Senhor’ (Kyrios/Jesus). Must be sharply distinguished from ‘Baal’ (‘lord/master’ as a Canaanite divine title), which the book’s own narrative (ch. 23) repudiates as illegitimate lordship.

Salvation

Approved rendering: salvação
Transliteration: yasha (sōtēria / sōzō)
Doctrine: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Exemplified in the historical deliverance from Sennacherib (32:22), which must be taught as a type of the ultimate salvation in Christ, not reduced to a merely political/military rescue.

Messiah

Approved rendering: Messias
Transliteration: Mashiach (Christos, trajectory)
Doctrine: Messianic Promise

Inherited from Romans package. Not a lexical occurrence in 2 Chronicles itself but the necessary trajectory-term for the Davidic covenant passages (1:8-9; 6:16-17; 7:17-18; 13:5; 21:7); must not be taught as merely ancient dynastic politics.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Espírito Santo
Transliteration: ruach haQodesh (pneuma hagion)
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: espíritos guias ou mentores espirituais (espiritismo), orixás e guias (Candomblé/Umbanda)

Inherited from Romans package. In this curriculum must be carefully disambiguated from the book’s other, non-Trinitarian uses of ‘ruach’ — see new entries ‘lying_spirit’ and ‘spirit_stirred_cyrus,’ neither of which is the Holy Spirit.

Humble Themselves

Approved rendering: se humilharem / se humilhou
Transliteration: veyikkan’u (kai entrapē)
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Rejected alternatives: reforma íntima espírita (autoaperfeiçoamento moral gradual do espírito ao longo de reencarnações)

New term; the doctrinal anchor-verb of the curriculum. Render identically at 7:14, 12:6, 32:26, and 33:12,19,23. Must exclude ritual humility detached from genuine turning and, more distinctively, the Kardecist ‘reforma íntima’ framework.

Turn From Wicked Ways

Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Rejected alternatives: reforma íntima espírita (evolução moral autopropulsionada sem perdão divino decisivo nesta vida)

New term; the structural spine-verb of the entire book (7:14; 12:6; 15; 30; negatively echoed at 7:19-20, 12, 21, 36). Absolute glossary lock — render with total consistency; the sharpest doctrinal collision in the curriculum.

Serve Other Gods

Approved rendering: servirdes a outros deuses e vos prostrardes diante deles
Transliteration: va’avadtem elohim acherim vehishtachavitem lahem
Doctrine: Idolatry and Syncretism

New term; the fixed Deuteronomic covenant-breaking formula. Recurs at 13, 14, 23, 25, 28, 33. Must be rendered with full, unsoftened exclusivity given Candomblé/Umbanda orixá-Catholic-saint syncretism and Kardecist veneration of ‘espíritos superiores.‘

Seer

Approved rendering: vidente
Transliteration: chozeh (ho horōn / prophētēs)
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture and the Prophetic Office

New term. Occurs 9,12,16,19,29,33,35. Every occurrence requires an explicit translator’s note distinguishing the biblical office-holder from a psychic/medium, a practice this same book condemns in ch. 33.

Lying Spirit

Approved rendering: espírito de mentira / espírito mentiroso
Transliteration: ruach shaqer (pneuma pseudes)
Doctrine: Faithful and Unfaithful Kings

New term (2 Chronicles 18). Teach with strict divine-sovereignty framing — God permits and bounds even a deceiving spirit; not a general theology validating spirit communication.

Baal

Approved rendering: Baal
Transliteration: Ba’al
Doctrine: Idolatry and Syncretism

New term; proper name retained. Destruction of Baal’s temple (23:17) is a direct enactment of the exclusive-worship formula. Note the lexical echo with ‘senhor/lord’-family titles for translator awareness only; never resolve by paraphrasing Baal as a common noun.

Child Sacrifice Molech

Transliteration: he’evir ba’esh / le-Molekh
Doctrine: Idolatry and Syncretism

New term (28:3, Ahaz). Requires sober, non-sensationalized, unambiguously condemnatory treatment.

Passover

Approved rendering: Páscoa
Transliteration: Pesach (pascha)
Doctrine: Passover and Covenant Renewal Feasts

New term (ch. 30, 35). ‘Páscoa’ in Portuguese denotes both the OT feast and the Christian Easter/Resurrection celebration; every occurrence requires an explicit contextual marker.

Mediums And Spiritists

Transliteration: ov v’yidde’oni (engastrimythos kai gnōstēs)
Doctrine: Mediums, Necromancy, and Divination
Rejected alternatives: espírita (empréstimo moderno isolado, associado estreitamente a um movimento religioso brasileiro nomeado e contemporâneo)

New term; the single most direct textual collision in this Language Package (33:6). Mandatory theologian-reviewed footnote every occurrence; must be paired with Manasseh’s genuine repentance (33:12-13) so the passage offers hope, not condemnation alone.

Sorcery Divination

Approved rendering: feitiçaria / adivinhação / presságios
Transliteration: kesheph / qesem / nachash (pharmakeia / manteia / oiōnismos)
Doctrine: Mediums, Necromancy, and Divination

New term; same collision family as mediums_and_spiritists. Requires sober, non-sensationalized, pastorally sensitive treatment.

Exile Captivity

Approved rendering: exílio / cativeiro
Transliteration: galah / galut / shevi (aichmalōsia / apoikia)
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence
Rejected alternatives: lei de causa e efeito espírita (leitura cármica cíclica)

New term (ch. 36; anticipated at 7:20). Must be taught as a specific, historical, non-final covenant judgment, never an illustration of impersonal cyclical causation.

High Risk Terms

Covenant

Approved rendering: aliança
Transliteration: berit (diathēkē)
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: contrato legal

Inherited from Romans package. Reused extensively: the Davidic throne-promise (7:18), the ark (ch. 5), and covenant renewal ceremonies (15, 23, 29, 34). Convey a relational covenant bond, not a mere legal contract.

Law

Approved rendering: lei
Transliteration: Torah (nomos)
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy

Inherited from Romans package. Reused for the Mosaic Law throughout (statutes and rules, 7:17-18; the rediscovered Book of the Law, ch. 34). Must not be rendered with a term suggesting an impersonal cosmic moral order, and must be distinguished from Kardecist ‘leis morais e naturais’ governing reincarnational progress.

Glory

Approved rendering: glória
Transliteration: kavod (doxa)
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence

Inherited from Romans package (baseline Medium); risk tier elevated to High for this curriculum because of the visible glory-cloud theophany filling the temple (ch. 5, 7). Must be taught as unique, self-authenticating divine presence, not analogous to reported spirit manifestations or ‘energy’ phenomena in Kardecist/Umbanda testimony.

Holy

Approved rendering: santo
Transliteration: qadosh (hagios)
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: puro em sentido apenas ritual

Inherited from Romans package. Applied in 2 Chronicles to persons, priests, and the temple itself (Holy of Holies, chosen_and_consecrated). Avoid terms carrying only ritual-purity connotations without moral content.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: santificação
Transliteration: qiddush (hagiasmos)
Doctrine: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Applied to the consecration of priests, Levites, and the temple (ch. 29). Distinguish from Umbanda ritual purification (‘banho de descarrego,’ ‘defumação’) aimed at removing impersonal negative energy.

Called

Approved rendering: chamado
Transliteration: niqra (epikeklētai)
Doctrine: Divine Calling

Inherited from Romans package. Applied in 7:14 to Israel’s corporate designation as God’s people; see new entry ‘people_called_by_name’ for the full corporate-vs-individual disambiguation required in this curriculum.

Election

Approved rendering: eleição
Transliteration: bachar (exelexato)
Doctrine: Effectual Calling

Inherited from Romans package. Applied in this book both to the Davidic dynasty and, distinctively, to the temple site itself; see new entry ‘chosen_place’ for the place-specific application.

Providence

Approved rendering: providência
Transliteration: pronoia (theological gloss)
Doctrine: Providence

Inherited from Romans package. Dramatized at national scale throughout 2 Chronicles (drought/curse, deliverance from Sennacherib, Cyrus’s stirred disposition) more extensively than anywhere else in this curriculum pipeline; see ‘shut_up_heavens,’ ‘pluck_up_cast_out,’ and ‘spirit_stirred_cyrus’.

Intercession

Approved rendering: intercessão
Transliteration: tefillah (proseuchē)
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession

Inherited from Romans package. Most fully exemplified in Solomon’s dedication prayer (ch. 6) and Hezekiah’s prayers (ch. 30, 32). Distinguish from Catholic saint/Marian intercession and from mainstream Brazilian mediumistic communication with the dead.

Grace

Approved rendering: graça
Transliteration: chen / chesed (charis / eleos)
Doctrine: Grace

Inherited from Romans package. The basis of the forgiveness promised in 7:14; must be distinguished from Kardecism’s doctrine of merit accumulated through moral effort across successive reincarnations.

Faith

Approved rendering:
Transliteration: batach (pistis, conceptual bridge)
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: convicção espírita, confiança genérica no próprio progresso moral

Inherited from Romans package. Personal trust in God; see new entry ‘trust_rely_on’ for this book’s distinct but related vocabulary (batach), used distinctively of Hezekiah.

House Of The Lord

Approved rendering: casa do SENHOR / templo
Transliteration: beit Adonai (oikos Kyriou)
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence

New term. Retain covenantal specificity (‘a casa do SENHOR’) rather than bare ‘templo’ alone; teach as the unique dwelling of the one true, personal, triune God.

Theophany Appeared

Approved rendering: apareceu
Transliteration: vayyera (ōphthē)
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Rejected alternatives: aparição (forma nominal, associada a aparições marianas e testemunhos de manifestação de espíritos)

New term. God’s real personal self-disclosure to Solomon (7:12); use the verb form and pair with a translator’s note distinguishing this from Marian apparitions or ghost/spirit-manifestation testimony.

Shut Up Heavens

Approved rendering: fechar os céus
Transliteration: e’tzor hashamayim (syschō ton ouranon)
Doctrine: Divine Providence and Sovereignty over Nations
Rejected alternatives: lei de causa e efeito espírita (regência cármica impessoal)

People Called By Name

Transliteration: ami asher-niqra shemi aleihem
Doctrine: Corporate National Identity as God’s People

New term reusing the ‘chamado’ root exactly. Keep the corporate, national referent (Israel/Judah) distinct from Romans’ individual salvific ‘chamado,’ while permitting legitimate pastoral application to the church today.

Seek My Face

Approved rendering: buscarem a minha face / buscar o SENHOR
Transliteration: baqash panim / darash (zētēsōsi to prosōpon mou)
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance

New term. Must specify God himself as sought directly, never guidance mediated through spirits, ancestors, or guides. ‘Darash’ is the same verb later used negatively of consulting mediums (ch. 33) — the object of seeking determines legitimacy.

Forgive Sin

Approved rendering: perdoarei o seu pecado
Transliteration: ve’esslach lechatta’tam (kai hileōs esomai tais hamartiais autōn)
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance

New term (‘pecado’ itself is baseline reuse). The compound act of forgiveness must be taught as a decisive divine act of grace received within history, not a debt gradually discharged.

Heal Their Land

Approved rendering: sararei a sua terra
Transliteration: ve’erpa et-artzam (kai tēn gēn autōn iasomai)
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration
Rejected alternatives: cura espiritual mediúnica (‘passe’ kardecista, cura ritual de Umbanda/Candomblé)

New term. God’s sovereign, corporate covenantal restoration of the nation, not a technique or energy transferable by a human intermediary. Reused at 30:20.

Chosen And Consecrated

Approved rendering: escolhi e consagrei / santifiquei
Transliteration: bacharti vehiqdashti (exelexamēn kai hēgiasa)

New term reusing baseline ‘lei.’ Must be distinguished from an impersonal cosmic moral order and specifically from Kardecist ‘leis morais e naturais.‘

Establish Throne Davidic Covenant

Transliteration: vahaqimoti et-kisse malkhutekha; ka’asher karati ledavid

New term reusing baseline ‘aliança’ and ‘Davi’ exactly. Must be taught toward Christ as the eternal Davidic king, preventing a purely political reading.

Turn Aside And Forsake

Approved rendering: vos desviardes e abandonardes
Transliteration: tashuvu atem va’azavtem (apostraphēte hymeis kai egkatalipēte)
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence

New term; the deliberate negative echo of ‘se converterem’ (7:14). Recurs at 12, 21, 36. Losing this literary connection in Portuguese obscures the passage’s rhetorical structure.

Pluck Up Cast Out

Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence

New term. A deliberate, purposive, relational rejection by a personal God, not an impersonal karmic recoil; directly anticipates 2 Chronicles 36.

Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence

New term. The Chronicler’s own diagnostic verdict on national catastrophe (7:22; echoed 12; 21; 24; 28; 34; 36:15-16). Render consistently across all occurrences.

Disaster Calamity

Approved rendering: esta desgraça / este mal

Holy Of Holies

Approved rendering: o Lugar Santíssimo
Transliteration: Kodesh HaKodashim (to hagion tōn hagiōn)

Cloud Glory

Approved rendering: nuvem / glória
Transliteration: anan / kavod (nephelē / doxa)
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence

Doctrine: Pride and Humility as Covenant Diagnostics

New term. Recurring Chronicler diagnostic term (ch. 26, 32); render consistently as the root sin underlying much of the book’s cycle of unfaithfulness.

Cleanse Purify

Approved rendering: purificar / puro e impuro
Transliteration: taher / tamei (katharizō / akathartos)
Doctrine: Reform under Hezekiah and Josiah
Rejected alternatives: remoção ritual genérica de energia negativa (‘banho de descarrego’, ‘defumação’ de Umbanda)

New term (ch. 29). Teach as restoring right worship according to God’s own revealed instructions, not a generic energy-cleansing technique.

Tithe

Approved rendering: dízimo
Transliteration: ma’aser (dekatē)
Doctrine: Tithe and Provision for Worship

Transliteration: ruach (pneuma)
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration

New term (36:22). God’s sovereign providential influence over a human king’s own will and disposition — a distinct category from the indwelling Espírito Santo and emphatically not a ‘spirit guide’ acting through a person.

Medium Risk Terms

Sin

Approved rendering: pecado
Transliteration: chet / chatat (hamartia)
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability

Kingdom Of God

Approved rendering: reino de Deus
Transliteration: malkhut Adonai (basileia Kyriou)
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission

Transliteration: Elohei avoteihem asher hotzi’am me’eretz mitzrayim

High Place Legitimate

Approved rendering: lugar alto

Transliteration: qetoret (thymiama)
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence

Transliteration: rachamim (oiktirmos)
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration
