Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Ephesians (English → Portuguese)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, chapter by chapter across the whole book of Ephesians. Terms already present in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json are marked [baseline reuse] and carry their established rendering and risk tier unchanged. New terms introduced by Ephesians are marked [NEW] and are proposed for addition to translation memory in Phase 1 Step 2. Risk tiers follow the same Critical/High/Medium/Low definitions as doctrine_risk_registry.json.

Notes for Phase 1 Step 2 (Translation Memory Update)
- All 92 terms above must be merged into an Ephesians-extended
translation_memory.json, incrementing the version number per the baseline’s update protocol. - All terms marked Critical above must be flagged for mandatory human theologian review per the routing rules in
doctrine_risk_registry.json. - New doctrine entries required in an Ephesians-extended
doctrine_risk_registry.json: Mystery of Christ Revealed, Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God, Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships, Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity (extended from Romans), One New Humanity / New Creation Identity, Ascension of Christ, Fullness of Christ (Pleroma), Being Filled with the Spirit. - The “principalities, powers, cosmic powers” cluster (#54, 89) and “be filled with the Spirit” (#80) are recommended as the two single highest-priority items for early theologian review, given the depth and mainstream scale of their Brazilian religious collisions.
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: justiça
Transliteration: dikaiosynē
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: mérito conquistado por esforço moral próprio
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 4:24 (the new self created in righteousness) and 6:14 (breastplate of righteousness) both retain forensic/moral standing rooted in Christ, not performance-based standing.
Salvation
Approved rendering: salvação
Transliteration: sōtēria
Doctrine: Salvation
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 2:5,8’s Greek perfect-tense ‘estais salvos pela graça’ states a settled, completed status, directly opposing the Kardecist framework of a spirit’s never-final, continually reassessed standing. This is the single highest-stakes term in the curriculum’s core passage.
Saints
Approved rendering: santos
Transliteration: hagioi
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: santos venerados e invocados como intercessores
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged; requires the same explanatory note in every occurrence. Ephesians extension: applied at 1:1, 1:18, 3:8, 3:18, 5:3, 6:18 — six occurrences across all six chapters, a far higher density than Romans 1:7 alone, raising the stakes of consistent fencing.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: ressurreição
Transliteration: anastasis
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: reencarnação
Original: ἀνάστασις / συνήγειρεν
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged: NEVER reencarnação. Ephesians extension: 1:20 (Christ raised) and 2:6 (‘nos ressuscitou juntamente com Cristo’, core passage) apply the doctrine both to Christ and, by union, to believers; the ‘juntamente com Cristo’ compound must never be dropped, since it is what prevents a reincarnation-adjacent misreading of new spiritual life.
Lord
Approved rendering: Senhor
Transliteration: kyrios
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 1:2-3, 1:17, 4:1, 4:5, 5:20, 6:23-24 use ‘Senhor’ with the same exclusive-lordship force as Romans 10:9; must not be read as a devotional title compatible with concurrent deference to orixás, spirit guides, or discarnate spirits.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Filho de Deus
Transliteration: huios theou
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 4:13 (‘knowledge of the Son of God’) as the maturity goal of the church; distinct from the adoptive sonship believers receive (1:5).
Messiah
Approved rendering: Messias
Transliteration: Christos / Mashiach
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: ‘Cristo’ is the dominant title throughout Ephesians (45+ occurrences); render as ‘Cristo/Messias’ per bible_term_registry.json precedent. Density of use makes any inconsistency far more visible to learners than in Romans.
Jesus
Approved rendering: Jesus
Transliteration: Iēsous / Yeshua
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Standard across all Portuguese Bible traditions.
God
Approved rendering: Deus
Transliteration: theos / Elohim / YHWH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 4:6 (‘one God and Father of all’) reinforces exclusive monotheism against syncretistic blending with orixás.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Espírito Santo
Transliteration: pneuma hagion
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: espíritos guias ou mentores espirituais (espiritismo), orixás e guias (Candomblé/Umbanda)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: load-bearing throughout — 1:13-14 (sealing/earnest), 2:18,22, 3:16, 4:3-4,30, 5:18, 6:17-18. Must always be capitalized and clearly distinguished from lower-case ‘espírito’ occurrences (e.g., 2:2’s ‘spirit of disobedience’).
Father
Approved rendering: Pai
Transliteration: patēr
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 1:2-3,17, 2:18, 3:14-15, 4:6, 5:20, 6:23. Note: 3:14-15’s Greek wordplay on patēr/patria (‘Father’/‘family’) is untranslatable in Portuguese and best handled with an explanatory note rather than a forced lexical match.
Children Of Wrath By Nature
Approved rendering: filhos da ira, por natureza
Transliteration: tekna physei orgēs
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Category: Salvation
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:3 (core passage). Direct doctrinal collision with Kardecist anthropology, which teaches the human spirit is fundamentally good, imperfect only through insufficient evolution, and progressing toward perfection across lifetimes — not guilty ‘by nature’ from birth. ‘Por natureza’ must never be softened.
Works
Approved rendering: obras
Transliteration: erga
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔργα
Category: Salvation
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:9 (core passage). Arguably the single highest-stakes term in the curriculum: ‘não vem das obras’ must read as an absolute, unqualified negation excluding both Kardecist multi-life merit and Tridentine cooperative-merit readings.
Good Works
Approved rendering: boas obras
Transliteration: ergois agathois
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔργοις ἀγαθοῖς
Category: Salvation
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:10 (core passage). Fruit/evidence of salvation, never its cause. The causal order (grace → faith → NOT works → good works as fruit) must be visibly preserved in Portuguese word order and connectives.
Predestined
Approved rendering: predestinou / predestinação
Transliteration: proorizō
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: Deus escolheu porque previu o mérito futuro do espírito, destinou (enfraquece a força doutrinária)
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:5, 1:11. Must not be softened into foreknowledge-of-merit; God’s choice grounds, not responds to, human trajectory. Render identically at every occurrence, never varying with ‘destinou’ or ‘ordenou’.
Redemption
Approved rendering: redenção
Transliteration: apolytrōsis
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:7, 1:14, 4:30. A decisive, price-paid deliverance accomplished once by Christ’s blood — structurally opposite to Kardecism’s karmic-debt-discharge-across-incarnations model.
Mystery
Approved rendering: mistério
Transliteration: mystērion
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: segredo (implica ocultamento contínuo), revelação especial reservada a iniciados
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:9, 3:3-9, 5:32, 6:19. Highest-priority new term: inverts the Greco-Roman/Kardecist/Candomblé-Umbanda ‘secret for initiates’ structure — this mystery is now openly proclaimed to everyone. Every occurrence requires an explicit teaching note stating this inversion.
Head
Approved rendering: cabeça
Transliteration: kephalē
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: líder, chefe (esvazia a imagem orgânica corpo-cabeça, reduzindo-a a mera administração)
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:22, 4:15, 5:23. Central to two doctrines: Christ’s headship of the church and, typologically, the husband’s headship of the wife. The latter requires explicit pastoral framing tying headship to self-sacrificial love (5:25), never domination.
Fullness Pleroma
Approved rendering: plenitude
Transliteration: plērōma
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: totalidade cósmica panteísta, iluminação pessoal alcançável por prática esotérica
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Mystery
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:23, 3:19, 4:13. Collides with 2nd-century Gnostic pleroma cosmology and contemporary Kardecist/esoteric ‘cosmic wholeness’ language. Must always be anchored to Christ’s unique fullness filling the church (‘a plenitude de Cristo’), never left standing alone.
Principalities Powers Ch1
Approved rendering: principado, potestade, poder, domínio
Transliteration: archē, exousia, dynamis, kyriotēs
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:21. First full statement of the principalities/powers vocabulary completed at 6:12; establishes Christ’s supremacy far above every such power as the governing frame for chapter 6.
One New Man
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: nova humanidade espiritual sincrética (leitura de mistura religiosa)
Original: εἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Unity
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:15. A genuinely new corporate identity created exclusively by Christ’s cross. Given Brazil’s history of religious syncretism (Candomblé/Umbanda blending; Kardecism’s own harmonizing self-presentation), must never be taught as validating the blending of Christian and non-Christian identities. Always anchor the phrase to ‘em Cristo’/‘pela cruz’; never let it stand alone as a general unity slogan.
Ascension Of Christ
Approved rendering: ascendeu / ascensão de Cristo
Transliteration: anebē / ēchmalōteusen aichmalōsian
Doctrine: Ascension of Christ
Category: Christology
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:20-21, 4:8-10. A distinct, sequential, historical event after the resurrection (death → resurrection → ascension → session at God’s right hand). Must not be collapsed into ‘ressurreição’ nor read through Kardecism’s mainstream vocabulary of spirits moving between ‘planos espirituais’ and embodiment.
Old Man New Man
Approved rendering: despojar-se do velho homem / revestir-se do novo homem
Transliteration: palaios anthrōpos / kainos anthrōpos
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Category: Sanctification
[NEW to Ephesians] 4:22-24. A decisive, once-for-all garment-change of moral identity, not a slow refinement of the same self across multiple lives. Retain the undressing/dressing verb imagery, not merely the noun pair.
Children Of Light Darkness
Approved rendering: filhos da luz / trevas
Transliteration: tekna phōtos / skotos
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Category: Sanctification
[NEW to Ephesians] 5:8. Near-exact taxonomic overlap with the mainstream Kardecist/Umbanda categories of graded spiritual evolution among many spirits. Must denote a complete, decisive change of identity accomplished by union with Christ (‘light IN THE LORD’), never a position on a light-darkness evolutionary continuum.
Filled With The Spirit
Approved rendering: sede cheios do Espírito
Transliteration: plērousthe en Pneumati
Doctrine: Being Filled with the Holy Spirit
Original: πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι
Category: Sanctification
[NEW to Ephesians] 5:18. Single highest-priority new flag in the entire Language Package. Must be taught with explicit, repeated clarification that this is the Holy Spirit’s empowering, sanctifying influence over a fully conscious, willing believer who retains full identity and volition — never a trance state or spirit incorporação. Mandatory teaching content, not a mere footnote.
Savior
Approved rendering: Salvador
Transliteration: sōtēr
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Christology
[NEW to Ephesians] 5:23. Built directly on the baseline’s Critical ‘salvação’; ties the household code back to the salvation doctrine.
Whole Armor Of God
Approved rendering: toda a armadura de Deus
Transliteration: panoplia tou Theou
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: proteção ritual ou amuletos (práticas sincréticas)
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 6:11,13. Central image of the doctrine: God alone, not the believer’s own strength or ritual practice, supplies everything needed for spiritual conflict.
Principalities Powers Ch6
Approved rendering: principados, potestades, poderes cósmicos deste mundo das trevas, forças espirituais do mal nas regiões celestiais
Transliteration: archas, exousias, kosmokratoras tou skotous toutou, pneumatika tēs ponērias
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 6:12. The single highest-priority collision risk in the entire curriculum: occupies the exact conceptual territory of mainstream, organized Kardecist spirit hierarchies and Candomblé/Umbanda orixá/exu cosmology. Must be taught as real, personal, already-defeated powers under Christ’s supremacy (1:20-22), never engaged through counter-ritual, mediumship, or syncretistic protection practices. Requires the highest level of human theologian review at every occurrence.
Armor Of God Pieces
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 6:14-17. Each armor piece names an already-established, already-Critical/High baseline doctrine (justiça, evangelho, paz, fé, salvação, Espírito Santo/palavra de Deus); the metaphor itself is Medium risk, but translators must not let the imagery obscure the weight of its components.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: evangelho
Transliteration: euangelion
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: mensagem de evolução moral (Kardecist ethical-progress framing)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged: distinguish from Allan Kardec’s ‘O Evangelho Segundo o Espiritismo’. Ephesians extension: 1:13, 3:6-7, 6:15, 6:19 tie this term specifically to the content of Gentile inclusion and reconciliation; must not be diluted into generic ethical teaching.
Grace
Approved rendering: graça
Transliteration: charis
Doctrine: Grace
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 2:5-8 (core passage) and 1:6-7, 4:7 sharpen the anti-merit force against Kardecism’s merit-across-lifetimes doctrine; grace-then-good-works causal order (2:8-10) must never be reordered.

Transliteration: pistis
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: convicção espírita, fé genérica em forças espirituais
Original: πίστις

Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians usage: 4:1, 4:4.

Approved rendering: santificação
Transliteration: hagiasmos
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 5:26-27’s ‘lavagem da água pela palavra’ must also be distinguished from Candomblé/Umbanda ritual cleansing baths (‘banho de descarrego’) performed apart from the gospel word.
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: dons espirituais
Transliteration: charismata
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: mediunidade (dom mediúnico espírita), dons de incorporação (Candomblé/Umbanda)
Original: χαρίσματα / δόματα
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 4:7-11 (‘unto every one of us is given grace… he gave gifts’) ties named offices (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers) to this doctrine; must never be conflated with mediumship or spirit incorporation.
Law
Approved rendering: lei
Transliteration: nomos
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians usage: 2:15, in the specific sense of the ceremonial ‘law of commandments contained in ordinances’ abolished in Christ’s flesh — a narrower nuance than Romans’ general discussions but the same term and same risk of confusion with the Kardecist ‘lei de causa e efeito’.
Covenant
Approved rendering: aliança
Transliteration: diathēkē
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: contrato legal
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians usage: 2:12 (‘covenants of promise’) — Gentiles were formerly ‘strangers from the covenants of promise’.

Transliteration: eklogē / exelexato
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐξελέξατο

Intercession
Approved rendering: intercessão
Transliteration: hyperentynchanei / enteuxis
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Original: ἔντευξις / προσευχή
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Baseline note unchanged. Ephesians extension: 6:18 (‘praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit’) extends the doctrine to believers’ own praying, not only the Spirit’s/Christ’s intercession; also 1:16-19, 3:14-19.
Providence
Approved rendering: providência
Transliteration: pronoia
Doctrine: Providence

Original: περιπατέω
Category: Sanctification
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:2,10 (core), 4:1,17, 5:2,8,15. The governing behavioral metaphor of the book. Collides at every occurrence with ‘caminhada espiritual/evolutiva’; must always denote a decisively-begun single new pattern of life anchored in a completed act of God, never a multi-life process.

Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:2. First appearance of the rulers/powers cluster completed at 6:12. Must name one specific, already-defeated personal enemy under Christ’s supremacy (1:20-22), not one power among a negotiable populated hierarchy.

Rejected alternatives: espírito guia, entidade espiritual identificável e negociável
Original: τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ νῦν ἐνεργοῦν
Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 2:2. The spirit of disobedience, explicitly NOT the Holy Spirit. Must be typeset lower-case and unmistakably distinct from ‘Espírito Santo’; opposed only through the gospel and the armor of God, never engaged as one identifiable spirit-entity among many.
Made Alive Together With Christ

Transliteration: synkathizō
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: status espiritual alcançado gradualmente

Rejected alternatives: planos espirituais (cosmologia espírita), colônias espirituais, planos umbandistas em camadas

Category: Spiritual Warfare
[NEW to Ephesians] 1:20, 2:6 (core), 3:10, 6:12. Must be the realm of Christ’s finished victory and the believer’s secure position in him, never a tiered system of spiritual planes ascended by the soul’s own effort.

Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
