Core Glossary

Core Glossary — Revelation (Apocalipse)

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, across all 22 chapters of Revelation, with its Portuguese rendering, risk tier, associated doctrine, and translation-risk notes. Terms marked (reused) carry forward the exact rendering and risk tier fixed in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json and must not be altered. New terms are proposed here for addition to translation memory at the next version increment, per the pipeline’s term-discovery procedure.

Churchigrejaἐκκλησία (ekklēsia)MediumThe Church as Bride of Christ1–3Only explicit in chs. 1–3 (seven churches); the Bride/New Jerusalem imagery (chs. 19,21–22) is the same referent under different imagery.

TribulationtribulaçãoθλῖψιςthlipsisHighPerseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution2,7”Great tribulation” (7:14) intensified form; avoid embedding a specific millennial/dispensational schema in the base translation.

Slain (of the Lamb)morto / como mortoἐσφαγμένονesphagmenonHighWorship of the Lamb5,13Rejected: “imolado” (Catholic liturgical/Eucharistic resonance implying re-presented sacrifice); Almeida-consistent “morto” preserves the once-for-all sense.

Book of Lifelivro da vidaβιβλίον τῆς ζωῆςbiblion tēs zōēsHighJudgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints3,13,17,20,21Contrast with Kardecist “registros akáshicos”; a settled gracious verdict, not an amendable karmic ledger.
BeastbestaθηρίονthērionCriticalJudgment of the Wicked / Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation11,13,14,15,16,17,19,20High risk of sensationalized speculative identification in Brazilian folk-prophecy media; teach within the apocalyptic-symbolic genre.

DragondragãoδράκωνdrakōnHighSovereignty of God over History / Assurance of Final Victory12,20Collision with syncretized “São Jorge e o Dragão”/Ogum devotional tradition; must preserve the text’s own explicit identification (12:9) and final, decisive (not cyclically recurring) defeat (20:10).
Diadem (royal crown)diademaδιάδημαdiadēmaMediumReturn and Reign of Christ12,13,19Keep lexically distinct from coroa (stephanos, the victor’s wreath) to preserve the counterfeit-vs-true-kingship contrast.
Crown (victor’s wreath)coroaστέφανοςstephanosMediumPerseverance and Faithful Witness2,3,4,6,9,12,14Distinct word/referent from diadema; never collapse the two.
Prostitute / HarlotprostitutaπόρνηpornēHighJudgment of the Wicked17,19Prophetic-symbolic covenant-unfaithfulness idiom; avoid both a misogynistic literal reading and endorsement of sectarian Babylon-identification polemics (e.g., equating with a specific modern institution).

BridenoivaνύμφηnymphēHighThe Church as Bride of Christ19,21Rejected: narrowing to consecrated-religious “esposas de Cristo” (nuns); the whole Church corporately is the Bride.
Marriage supper of the Lambceia das bodas do Cordeiroδεῖπνον τοῦ γάμου τοῦ ἀρνίουdeipnon tou gamou tou arniouMedium–HighThe Church as Bride of Christ19Preserve the ironic contrast with “the great supper of God” (19:17, judgment feast).

New heaven and new earthnovo céu e nova terraκαινὸς οὐρανὸς καὶ καινὴ γῆkainos ouranos kai kainē gēCriticalThe New Heaven and New Earth21Critical contrast with Kardecist cosmology of successive “colônias espirituais”/astral planes; this is a definitive, bodily, once-for-all renewal, not an indefinite evolutionary ascent through spiritual planes.
Holy city / New Jerusalemcidade santa / nova Jerusalémπόλις ἁγία, Ἰερουσαλὴμ καινήpolis hagia, Ierousalēm kainēMediumThe New Heaven and New Earth21Requires OT background (Isaiah 65; Ezekiel 40-48) many readers lack.
Tabernacle / dwelltabernáculo / habitaráσκηνή / σκηνώσειskēnē / skēnōseiMediumThe New Heaven and New Earth21Direct echo of João 1:14 (“encarnação”); surface this Incarnation link explicitly in teaching.
Second deathsegunda morteθάνατος δεύτεροςthanatos deuterosCriticalJudgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints2,20,21No conceptual analogue in Kardecism, which denies any final, irrevocable judgment; must be taught with maximal clarity.
Lake of fire (and sulfur)lago de fogo (e enxofre)λίμνη τοῦ πυρός (καὶ θείου)limnē tou pyros (kai theiou)CriticalJudgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints19,20,21Direct, sharp contrast with Kardecism’s denial of eternal conscious punishment; never soften into a temporary purifying state.
Millennium / thousand yearsmil anos / milênioχίλια ἔτηchilia etēMediumThe Return and Reign of Christ20Denominational neutrality required; render literally, do not encode a specific millennial-view interpretation.
Great white thronegrande trono brancoθρόνος μέγας λευκόςthronos megas leukosMedium–HighJudgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints20Climactic judgment-scene image.
144,000cento e quarenta e mil / cento e quarenta e quatro milἑκατὸν τεσσεράκοντα τέσσαρες χιλιάδεςHighJudgment of the Wicked / Vindication of the Saints7,14Must be distinguished from Jehovah’s Witnesses’ distinctive literal 144,000-anointed-class doctrine, a recognizable rival claim in Brazil.
Tree of lifeárvore da vidaξύλον τῆς ζωῆςxylon tēs zōēsHighThe New Heaven and New Earth2,22Collision with the Kabbalistic “Árvore da Vida” sold/taught in Brazilian esoteric/New Age retail and publishing; anchor explicitly to Genesis–Revelation narrative, not the sephirotic diagram.
River / spring of the water of liferio / fonte da água da vidaποταμὸς / πηγὴ ὕδατος τῆς ζωῆςpotamos / pēgē hydatos tēs zōēsMediumThe New Heaven and New Earth21,22Ties to eternal life and the Spirit; “de graça” (freely) qualifier in 21:6 is the sharper doctrinal point.
Freely / without costde graça / gratuitamenteδωρεάνdōreanHighAssurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil21,22Strong anchor text against reading eternal life as earned through accumulated merit across reincarnations.
Faithful (of God’s words)fielπιστόςpistosMediumAssurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil1,2,3,19,21,22Same root family as baseline faith; add to translation memory alongside it.
True (authentic, not counterfeit)verdadeiroἀληθινόςalēthinosMediumSymbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation3,6,15,16,19,21,22Signals ultimate/non-counterfeit reality, contrasted with the beast/false prophet/Babylon’s illusory splendor — not mere factual correctness.
Wrath (of God)ira de Deus / furor de Deusθυμός / ὀργήthymos / orgēHighSovereignty of God over History / Judgment of the Wicked6,14,15,16,19Must be God’s personal, righteous, judicial response — never an impersonal karmic “lei de causa e efeito” (cf. baseline providence rejection).
I am coming soonvenho sem demora / venho em breveἔρχομαι ταχύerchomai tachyMedium–HighThe Return and Reign of Christ2,3,16,22Preserve certainty-plus-unknown-timing tension; avoid over-literalizing a strict chronological “soon.”

SignsinalσημεῖονsēmeionMediumSymbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation12,13,15,16,19Distinguish authentic divine signs from deceptive counterfeit signs (13:13-14; 19:20) — relevant given Brazilian charismatic emphasis on signs and wonders.

Servant(s) of Godservo(s) de Deusδοῦλος (doulos)MediumPerseverance and Faithful Witness1,7,19,22”Servo” (not literal “escravo”) is the established covenantal-loyalty register.
Reign (of the redeemed with Christ)reinarãoβασιλεύω (basileuō)MediumThe Return and Reign of Christ5,20,22Applied to believers sharing Christ’s reign; distinct from any this-worldly political triumphalism.

C. Cross-Reference Notes for Phase 2

  1. Terms in Section A must be pulled verbatim from the existing baseline translation_memory.json; do not re-derive renderings for them.
  2. Terms in Section B must be added to translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json at the next version increment before any Phase 2 segment translation proceeds, per the Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.
  3. The following term pairs must never be collapsed into a single Portuguese word, per the literary/theological distinctions documented in 07_semantic_analysis.md:
    • ζῷον (ser vivente) vs. θηρίον (besta)
    • στέφανος (coroa) vs. διάδημα (diadema)
    • θάνατος (morte, ordinary) vs. θάνατος δεύτερος (segunda morte, technical apocalyptic term)
  4. Risk tier elevated above Romans baseline for this curriculum: Prophet/Prophecy (Low → High), given Revelation’s explicit, repeated closed-canon self-authentication claims and their direct relevance to psicografia.
  5. All Critical-risk terms in Section B route to human theologian review per the doctrine risk registry conventions established in the Romans baseline; this routing must be replicated in the Revelation-specific doctrine_risk_registry.json (Phase 1 Step 2).

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: Deus
Transliteration: theos
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. In Revelation, God’s exclusive worthiness of worship (chs. 4-5, 19:10, 22:8-9) makes this term’s precision especially load-bearing.

Jesus

Approved rendering: Jesus
Transliteration: Iēsous
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs in the closing liturgical formula ‘Vem, Senhor Jesus’ (22:20), which must be rendered with maximal consistency.

Christ Title

Approved rendering: Cristo
Transliteration: Christos
Doctrine: Deity and Eternal Sovereignty of Christ
Rejected alternatives: um dos espíritos mais evoluídos (leitura cristológica kardecista)

New key for this curriculum (not present as a standalone entry in the Romans baseline TM), but extends and reuses the baseline ‘messiah’ entry’s Critical-risk logic exactly. Standard established Portuguese Bible form; used throughout Revelation (11:15; 12:10; 20:4,6) of Jesus reigning with the Father.

Lord

Approved rendering: Senhor
Transliteration: kyrios
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ / Lordship of Christ
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Culminates in ‘Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores’ (19:16); must never be a devotional title shared alongside spirit guides or orixás.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Espírito Santo
Transliteration: pneuma hagion
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb / Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: espíritos guias ou mentores espirituais (espiritismo), orixás e guias (Candomblé/Umbanda)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Addressed to the seven churches (chs. 2-3) and present throughout the book’s visions.

Father

Approved rendering: Pai
Transliteration: patēr
Doctrine: Church as Bride of Christ
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Source of the believer’s inheritance (21:7) and of Christ’s authority (2:27; 3:5,21).

Saints

Approved rendering: santos
Transliteration: hagioi
Doctrine: Sainthood and Corporate Intercession
Rejected alternatives: santos venerados e invocados como intercessores
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged risk tier. Revelation 8:3-4 depicts ordinary believers’ own prayers heard by God directly — the opposite of the popular Luso-Brazilian Catholic devotional pattern of praying to canonized saints for their intercession. Requires an explanatory note at every occurrence.

Salvation

Approved rendering: salvação
Transliteration: sōtēria
Doctrine: Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil
Rejected alternatives: evolução espiritual através de reencarnações sucessivas
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Declared doxologically as belonging to God and the Lamb (7:10; 19:1).

Resurrection

Approved rendering: ressurreição
Transliteration: anastasis
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ and the Dead
Rejected alternatives: reencarnação
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. NEVER ‘reencarnação.’ Christ’s own resurrection (1:5,18) and the ‘first resurrection’ of the redeemed (20:5-6, a Critical-risk phrase requiring the identical guard).

Son Of God

Approved rendering: Filho de Deus
Transliteration: huios theou
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: filho de Deus no sentido genérico aplicado a todo crente

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Must be sharply distinguished from the adoptive ‘filho’ language applied to believing overcomers in 21:7.

Lamb

Approved rendering: Cordeiro
Transliteration: arnion
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Rejected alternatives: cordeirinho (metáfora genérica e apenas pastoral), imagem meramente ilustrativa sem sentido sacrificial-e-triunfante
Original: ἀρνίον
Category: Christology

New term for this curriculum; always capitalized when referring to Christ. Occurs 28 times, more than any other Christological title in the book. Given the live devotional practice of animal offerings to orixás in some Brazilian religious contexts, the uniqueness, historicity, and non-repeatability of Christ’s sacrifice must be taught explicitly.

King Of Kings Lord Of Lords

Approved rendering: Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores
Transliteration: basileus basileōn kai kyrios kyriōn
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Rejected alternatives: um rei entre outros reis
Original: βασιλεὺς βασιλέων καὶ κύριος κυρίων
Category: Christology

New term for this curriculum. Christ’s supreme, unrivaled sovereignty (17:14; 19:16); absolute, exclusive-sovereignty claim, directly continuous with the baseline ‘lord’ entry.

New Heaven New Earth

Approved rendering: novo céu e nova terra
Transliteration: kainos ouranos kai kainē gē
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Rejected alternatives: evolução através de colônias espirituais/planos astrais sucessivos (cosmologia kardecista)
Original: καινὸς οὐρανὸς καὶ καινὴ γῆ
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The definitive, qualitative renewal of the created order (21:1), ‘kainos’ (new in kind) rather than ‘neos’ (new in time). Never annihilation-and-replacement, never an indefinite evolutionary ascent.

Second Death

Approved rendering: segunda morte
Transliteration: ho thanatos ho deuteros
Doctrine: Second Death and Eternal Judgment
Rejected alternatives: apenas uma transição espiritual (leitura kardecista de ‘desincarnação’)
Original: ὁ θάνατος ὁ δεύτερος
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. A technical apocalyptic term unique to Revelation (2:11; 20:6,14; 21:8). Kardecism has no category of a definitive ‘second death’; must be taught with maximal doctrinal clarity.

Lake Of Fire

Approved rendering: lago de fogo (e enxofre)
Transliteration: hē limnē hē kaiomenē pyri kai theiō
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
Rejected alternatives: estado temporário de purificação cármica
Original: ἡ λίμνη ἡ καιομένη πυρὶ καὶ θείῳ
Category: Eschatology

New term for this curriculum. The place of final, conscious, eternal judgment for the unrepentant (19:20; 20:10,14-15; 21:8). Kardecist Spiritism explicitly denies eternal conscious punishment; must never be softened.

Beast

Approved rendering: besta
Transliteration: thērion
Doctrine: Mark of the Beast and Idolatrous Allegiance
Rejected alternatives: ser vivente (jamais - confundiria com zōon, ch. 4)
Original: θηρίον
Category: Judgment

New term for this curriculum. Symbolic representation of anti-God imperial/political power demanding counterfeit worship (chs. 11,13-20). Must never be lexically collapsed with ‘ser vivente’ (zōon).

Mark Of The Beast

Approved rendering: marca
Transliteration: charagma
Doctrine: Mark of the Beast and Idolatrous Allegiance
Rejected alternatives: identificação específica com tecnologias modernas (códigos de barras, biometria, moeda digital, vacinas)
Original: χάραγμα
Category: Judgment

New term for this curriculum. The most sensationalized apocalyptic term in Brazilian popular Christian culture; preserve the real warning (ultimate allegiance/worship) without endorsing specific modern technological identifications.

Worship

Approved rendering: adorar
Transliteration: proskyneō
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Rejected alternatives: venerar (poderia sugerir a distinção católica dulia/hiperdulia dada aos santos e a Maria)
Original: προσκυνέω
Category: Worship

New term for this curriculum. John twice attempts to worship an angel and is sharply rebuked, ‘Worship God!’ (19:10; 22:8-9). The most direct textual anchor in the whole book for its own doctrine, directly relevant to saint veneration, Kardecist spirit-guide reverence, and Candomblé/Umbanda orixá veneration.

High Risk Terms

Holy

Approved rendering: santo
Transliteration: hagios
Doctrine: Sanctification / Worship of the Lamb
Rejected alternatives: puro em sentido apenas ritual
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package (there Medium risk) but ELEVATED to High for this curriculum: ‘cidade santa’ (21:2) and repeated angelic-worship contexts (‘santo, santo, santo,’ 4:8) intensify the risk of a ritual-purity-only reading rather than moral and relational set-apartness.

Faith

Approved rendering:
Transliteration: pistis
Doctrine: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: convicção espírita, fé genérica em forças espirituais
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. ‘Faithful unto death’ (2:10) anchors the persecution doctrine rather than generic belief.

Grace

Approved rendering: graça
Transliteration: charis
Doctrine: Grace and the Free Gift of Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: mérito espiritual acumulado ao longo de vidas sucessivas
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. The closing benediction (22:21) and the ‘freely’ gift of the water of life (21:6; 22:17) are strong anchors against merit-across-reincarnations readings.

Glory

Approved rendering: glória
Transliteration: doxa
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package (there Medium) but ELEVATED to High for this curriculum: 21:23-24 makes an explicit exclusivity claim (no rival source of illumination or mediation is needed), directly reinforcing Worship of the Lamb.

Covenant

Approved rendering: aliança
Transliteration: diathēkē
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Rejected alternatives: contrato legal
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Visualized in the ark of the covenant seen in the heavenly temple (11:19).

Prophet

Approved rendering: profeta
Transliteration: prophētēs
Doctrine: Inspiration and Closed Canon of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: médium (canalizador de mensagens espirituais)
Original: προφήτης
Category: Scripture

Inherited from Romans package but ELEVATED from Low to High for this curriculum, since Revelation’s own closed-canon claims (1:3; 22:18-19) directly confront Kardecism’s mainstream Brazilian practice of psicografia. Applied to John himself (22:9) and, negatively, to the ‘false prophet’ (16:13; 19:20; 20:10).

Prophecy

Approved rendering: profecia
Transliteration: prophēteia
Doctrine: Inspiration and Closed Canon of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: psicografia (mensagens espirituais transcritas por médiuns)
Original: προφητεία
