Semantic Analysis
07 Semantic Analysis — Jude (Filipino)
Book Structure and Full-Book Coverage Note
The Epistle of Jude is a single chapter of 25 verses. Per the PRD Phase 1 mandate for full-book coverage, this document treats the entire book as follows:
- Core passage verse-by-verse treatment: Jude 1:3–23 (the doctrinal body of the letter — contending for the faith, judgment on false teachers, OT warning-types, mercy for the wavering, and the command to keep oneself in God’s love) receives full verse-by-verse analysis below.
- Remainder of the chapter: Jude 1:1–2 (salutation) and Jude 1:24–25 (closing doxology) fall outside the core passage but are part of the same single chapter and are analyzed with identical rigor immediately after the core passage, under “Chapter 1 — Remaining Verses.”
- Because Jude has only one chapter, there is no additional “chapter 2, 3…” to survey. This document therefore constitutes complete, first-to-last coverage of the book, verse by verse, verses 1–25.
Jude is closely related to 2 Peter 2, sharing much vocabulary and several Old Testament examples; where Romans baseline terms recur (e.g., faith, saints, grace, Lord, called, glory, apostle, Holy Spirit, salvation), this analysis reuses the baseline Filipino renderings exactly and notes any context-specific nuance Jude introduces.
Core Passage Verse-by-Verse: Jude 1:3–23

| παρακαλῶν (parakalōn) | urging, appealing, entreating | exhortation ranging from comfort to urgent appeal | ”exhorting,” “appealing,” “urging” | Here an urgent appeal to action, not gentle encouragement | makiusap form (per TM’s context rule: entreaty sense), not pasiglahin (Low-Medium) |

| παραδοθείσῃ (paradotheisē) | was handed over/entrusted/delivered | transmission of a valuable, fixed deposit from one party to another for safekeeping | ”delivered,” “entrusted,” “committed” | Central doctrine. The faith is a fixed apostolic deposit entrusted to the church, complete and unrepeatable | ipinagkatiwala (High) — new term for TM; guards against reading “the faith” as an evolving body of doctrine supplemented by later magisterial tradition |
| τοῖς ἁγίοις (tois hagiois) | to the saints/holy ones | all set-apart believers, corporate designation | ”the saints,” “the holy ones” | Reuse of baseline CRITICAL term: every believer, not a canonized elite | Reuse mga banal (TM) (Critical) — teaching note required per baseline |

| ἀσεβεῖς (asebeis) | ungodly, irreverent, impious | living without regard for God’s authority; not merely “bad” in a generic moral sense | ”ungodly,” “godless,” “irreverent” | Central doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers. Denotes a fundamental orientation against God, not isolated bad behavior | walang-diyos (High) — new term for TM; must not collapse into generic masama (“bad person”), which loses the God-directed dimension |
| χάριν (charin) | grace | unmerited favor | ”grace” | Reuse baseline CRITICAL term; here specifically its perversion into license for immorality | Reuse biyaya (TM) (Critical) — forbidden substitution utang na loob applies; flag per baseline’s grace-vs-works escalation rule |
