Executive Summary
01 Executive Summary — Pahayag (Revelation) 1–22 (English → Filipino)
Why it matters
Revelation is the highest doctrinal-risk book yet processed in this Language Package. It concentrates more Critical-risk terminology and doctrine than the Romans baseline, and it collides — repeatedly and specifically — with three live forces in the Philippine religious landscape: folk-Catholic devotional practice (image veneration, sainthood, purgatory-adjacent afterlife belief), Jehovah’s Witnesses (144,000/great-crowd two-tier doctrine, Michael-is-Christ, annihilationism, an invisible 1914 return), and Iglesia ni Cristo’s restorationist end-times self-identification. The core passage, Revelation 21:1–8, sits at the convergence point of nearly every one of these risks. Getting this curriculum’s terminology and framing right — and getting it consistent with the already-shipped Romans package — is the difference between a translation that clarifies the gospel’s final victory and one that inadvertently imports a rival theology.
Key findings
- 20 doctrines analyzed across the full 22-chapter book (per
assets/doctrine_risk_registry.jsonandanalysis/11_doctrine_analysis.md): 6 Critical, 10 High, 4 Medium, 0 Low — 16 of 20 doctrines require mandatory human theologian review; the remaining 4 require native speaker review; none are automated-only. - 101 terms are now fixed in
assets/translation_memory.jsonv2: 30 inherited exactly from the Romans baseline and 71 newly introduced for Revelation’s distinctive vocabulary (Lamb, dragon, beast, 144,000, second death, lake of fire, worship, bride, tabernacle, and more). - At the term level (
assets/bible_term_registry.json), 13 terms are Critical-risk and roughly 39 are High-risk — 52 Critical/High terms in total, every one of which is routed to mandatory human theologian review before Phase 2 approval. - The core passage, Revelation 21:1–8, is the single highest-concentration passage in the book for doctrinal risk: it alone touches 10 of the 20 doctrines in the matrix, including the two highest-stakes same-word ambiguities in the whole curriculum — “new” (kainos, qualitative vs. temporal) and “kamatayan” (ordinary death, abolished in v.4, vs. “ikalawang kamatayan,” the second death, in v.8).
- Four collision points are documented as the highest-severity, most specific risks in the entire book: (1) “imahen ng hayop” / “mga sumasamba sa diyos-diyosan” against everyday Filipino Catholic devotional image language; (2) “144,000” against Jehovah’s Witness two-class doctrine; (3) “lawa ng apoy at asupre” against both folk-Catholic purgatory belief and Jehovah’s Witness annihilationism; (4) “Babilonyang dakila” against historic anti-Catholic Reformation-polemic misreadings.
Risks
- Critical (6 doctrines, 13 terms): Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints; Worship of the Lamb; Deity and Lordship of Christ; Sainthood and Faithful Martyrdom; Unity of the Whole People of God; Divine Judgment on Idolatry and the Occult. Every occurrence of the terms tied to these doctrines requires a mandatory teaching/translator note and human theologian sign-off before release.
- High (10 doctrines, ~39 terms): The Return and Reign of Christ; Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution; The New Heaven and New Earth; The Church as Bride of Christ; Sonship of Christ and Derived Sonship; Angelology and Spiritual Warfare; Assurance of Salvation and the Book of Life; The Millennial Reign of Christ; Grace and the Free Gift of Eternal Life.
- Live cult/sect collision risk: Any back-translation returning “Jehova,” a two-tier 144,000 framing, an annihilationist or purgatorial reading of the second death/lake of fire, or a Michael-equals-Christ identification must trigger immediate escalation — these are documented, actively taught alternatives circulating in the Philippines, not hypothetical risks.
- Pastoral-sensitivity risk: “Sumamba” (worship), “imahen ng hayop” (image of the beast), and “Babilonyang dakila” (Babylon the great) require the most carefully worded notes in the whole Language Package to avoid either flattening the text’s real exclusivity claims or giving unwarranted offense to the majority-Catholic readership.
Opportunities
- The core passage’s own vocabulary (biyaya, walang bayad/bilang kaloob, kalinga ng Diyos, Matapat at Totoo) offers a strong platform for reinforcing — not just repeating — the baseline’s signature grace-versus-utang-na-loob teaching, now extended to eternal life’s dōrean (“freely”) framing at 21:6 and 22:17.
- Revelation’s own worship-refusal scenes (19:10; 22:8–9) give this curriculum a uniquely strong, textually self-evident basis for teaching the sumamba exclusivity doctrine respectfully, without inventing polemic — the text does the work itself.
- The book’s climactic titles (Panginoon ng mga panginoon, Matapat at Totoo, Halika Panginoong Jesus) create natural, high-impact opportunities to reinforce Theological Consistency Rules already established for Romans 8:28 and 10:9–10, strengthening the whole Language Package’s internal coherence across curricula.
Recommended actions
- Load
assets/translation_memory.jsonv2,assets/bible_term_registry.json, andassets/doctrine_risk_registry.jsonfor Revelation into Phase 2 tooling alongside the Romans baseline files, never in place of them. - Route every one of the 16 theologian-required doctrines and 52 Critical/High terms through mandatory human theologian review before any segment is marked approved, per the escalation rules in
analysis/12_ai_translation_requirements.md. - Prioritize Phase 2 Step 17 Doctrinal Fidelity Review capacity toward Revelation 21:1–8 and chapters 7, 12, 13, 17, 19, and 20, where Critical/High risk density is highest.
- Brief all human theologian reviewers on the four documented cult/sect collision points (Jehovah’s Witness 144,000/annihilationism/Michael-is-Christ; Iglesia ni Cristo end-times self-identification) before review begins, so escalations are recognized immediately rather than discovered mid-review.
- Carry forward, unchanged, every Romans baseline forbidden substitution and contextual-framing rule; this curriculum extends but never resets the Language Package’s existing safeguards.
