Core Glossary
Core Glossary: 2 John — English → Javanese
This glossary extends the baseline Romans translation_memory.json for the 2 John curriculum. Section A lists baseline terms that recur in 2 John and must be reused exactly as recorded in the baseline. Section B lists new terms first required by 2 John, proposed here for registry addition (pending Phase 1 Step 2+ formal doctrine risk registry integration). All risk tiers follow the baseline’s four-tier framework (Critical / High / Medium / Low) and its review-routing convention (Critical & High → human theologian; Medium → native speaker; Low → automated).

| 14 | Antichrist | ἀντίχριστος / antichristos | antikristus (transliteration) | Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation | Critical | Satrio Piningit-adjacent framing; generic “musuh” (enemy) | Transliterate by analogy to Sang Mesias/Kristus; must not be folded into Jayabaya-tradition prophetic figures |
| 15 | Teaching / doctrine (of Christ) | διδαχή / didachē | piwulangipun Gusti Yesus Kristus | Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ | High | ajaran (too generic; risks “one teaching among many”) | Fixed, complete, public apostolic deposit — contrasted with guru-murid esoteric progressive transmission |

| 22 | Receive into the house (hospitality) | λαμβάνειν εἰς οἰκίαν / lambanein eis oikian | nampani wonten ing griya | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | High | — | Runs directly against strong Javanese hospitality norms; must be scoped narrowly to itinerant incarnation-denying teachers |
| 23 | Greeting (withheld) | χαίρειν / chairein | pambagya / salam (withheld) | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | High | — | Withholding even a customary greeting is a severe social breach in Javanese unggah-ungguh; requires explicit narrow-scope teaching |

Critical Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: Gusti Allah
Transliteration: Gusti Allah
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Gusti (alone)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Occurs in 2 John 1:3 (source of grace, mercy, peace) and 1:9 (the one whom deniers of Christ’s teaching do not have). Never shorten to bare Gusti.
Jesus
Approved rendering: Gusti Yesus
Transliteration: Gusti Yesus
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Nabi Isa
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Occurs in 2 John 1:3, 1:7. Never use Nabi Isa, the Islamic prophetic framing.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Putrané Gusti Allah
Transliteration: Putrané Gusti Allah
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ πατρός / ὁ υἱός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Apply this phrase pattern to both ‘the Father’s Son’ (2 John 1:3) and ‘the Son’ (2 John 1:9), both carrying implicit co-equal deity force alongside the Father.
Grace
Approved rendering: sih-rahmat
Transliteration: sih-rahmat
Doctrine: Grace, Mercy, and Peace Greeting
Rejected alternatives: kasekten, wahyu, utang budi
Original: χάρις
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Occurs in the greeting-triad of 2 John 1:3 (grace, mercy, peace). Never use kasekten, wahyu, or utang budi, even in a simple epistolary greeting; nothing is owed in return.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: Gusti Allah dados manungsa
Transliteration: Gusti Allah dados manungsa
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: manunggaling kawula gusti
Original: ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο (cf. ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί, v.7)
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. General doctrinal phrase underlying 2 John 1:7’s specific denial-warning. Never use manunggaling kawula gusti; the deceivers denounced in 1:7 deny precisely a real, historical, once-for-all incarnation, the opposite of that kejawen mystical-fusion framework.
Coming In The Flesh
Approved rendering: rawuh dados manungsa
Transliteration: rawuh dados manungsa
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: manunggaling kawula gusti
Original: ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί
Category: Christology
New term for this curriculum, extending the baseline Incarnation phrase with the verb rawuh (‘to come/arrive,’ respectful krama form). Renders 2 John 1:7’s ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί within the fuller construction ‘Gusti Yesus Kristus ingkang rawuh dados manungsa.’ Every occurrence requires mandatory theologian review; the forbidden-substitution rule for manunggaling kawula gusti applies without exception.
Antichrist
Approved rendering: antikristus
Transliteration: antikristus
Doctrine: The Antichrist Category
Rejected alternatives: Satrio Piningit, musuh (generic enemy)
Original: ἀντίχριστος
Category: Christology
New term for this curriculum, transliterated by analogy to Sang Mesias and Kristus. Occurs in 2 John 1:7. Never frame through language adjacent to Satrio Piningit (the Jayabaya-prophecy hidden knight, already forbidden for ‘messiah’ in the Romans baseline) or any other Javanese folk-prophetic eschatological figure; also avoid diluting to a generic ‘musuh’ (enemy).
Messiah
Approved rendering: Sang Mesias
Transliteration: Sang Mesias
Doctrine: The Antichrist Category (cross-reference term)
Rejected alternatives: Satrio Piningit
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Not directly used in 2 John’s text; retained here as the transliteration-convention precedent that informs the new antikristus coinage (see antichrist entry).
High Risk Terms
Christ
Approved rendering: Kristus
Transliteration: Kristus
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
New term for this curriculum (baseline Romans package used only Sang Mesias for the messianic-promise argument and did not carry a discrete transliterated ‘Christ’ entry). Transliterate as Kristus per established Javanese/Indonesian-archipelago Bible convention, used as part of the combined proper name ‘Jesus Christ’ in 2 John 1:3, 1:7, 1:9. Keep Kristus consistent wherever the combined name occurs; do not substitute Sang Mesias in these occurrences, since Sang Mesias is reserved for explicit OT messianic-promise argument.
Father
Approved rendering: Rama
Transliteration: Rama
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Leluhur
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Occurs in 2 John 1:3, 1:4, 1:9. Never substitute Leluhur (venerated ancestral forebear).
Truth
Approved rendering: kayektosan
Transliteration: kayektosan
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Rejected alternatives: kabeneran (reserved for righteousness)
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Truth and Doctrine
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4. Must stay lexically distinct from kabeneran (baseline term for righteousness); Indonesian-language Bible tradition sometimes collapses truth and righteousness into a single ‘kebenaran’ root, a collapse Javanese must avoid.
Walk
Approved rendering: lumampah
Transliteration: lumampah
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Rejected alternatives: mlaku (too plain for doctrinal register)
Original: περιπατέω
Category: Walking in Truth and Love
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:4, 1:6 (twice). Shares a root with kejawen laku (ascetic mystical spiritual exercise, e.g. laku prihatin), analogous to the tapa/tirakat collision already flagged in the Romans baseline under ‘holy.’ Must be taught explicitly as grace-enabled ordinary conduct in response to what is already given in Christ, never a self-directed discipline to earn spiritual standing.
Deceiver
Approved rendering: tiyang panasar
Transliteration: tiyang panasar
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: dhukun-adjacent framing
Original: πλάνος
Category: Warning against False Teaching
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:7. Distinguish from the baseline’s caution that ‘prophet’ (nabi) must not be confused with dhukun (folk diviner/healer); this is a doctrinal false teacher, not primarily an occult practitioner.
World
Approved rendering: donya
Transliteration: donya
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: jagad (kejawen macrocosm/microcosm cosmology)
Original: κόσμος
Category: Warning against False Teaching
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:7. Never use jagad, which risks pulling κόσμος into the kejawen jagad ageng/jagad alit cosmological framework; donya keeps the everyday human-society sense.
Confess
Approved rendering: ngakeni
Transliteration: ngakeni
Doctrine: Doctrinal Confession of Christ’s Incarnate Identity
Original: ὁμολογέω
Category: Truth and Doctrine
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:7. In a Muslim-majority society, avoid conflation with the Islamic syahadat (a fixed ritual creedal recitation); emphasis must remain on affirming a specific truth-content, not performing a verbal ritual formula.
Teaching Of Christ
Approved rendering: piwulangipun Gusti Yesus Kristus
Transliteration: piwulangipun Gusti Yesus Kristus
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ajaran (too generic)
Original: διδαχὴ τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Truth and Doctrine
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:9. Rejects ajaran as too generic, risking a ‘one teaching among many’ reading. Javanese guru-murid culture involves progressively unfolded esoteric teaching; 2 John 9 opposes this pattern directly, since the teaching of Christ is a fixed, complete, publicly received apostolic deposit.
Goes Ahead
Approved rendering: nglancangi
Transliteration: nglancangi
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: προάγω
Category: Truth and Doctrine
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:9. Names the false claim to spiritual advancement beyond apostolic teaching, the guru-style claim to progress that v.9 condemns as apostasy; direct opposite of ‘abiding.‘
Has God
Approved rendering: gadhah / mboten gadhah gesang sesambetan kaliyan Gusti Allah
Transliteration: gadhah / mboten gadhah gesang sesambetan kaliyan Gusti Allah
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: θεὸν ἔχει / θεὸν οὐκ ἔχει
Category: Truth and Doctrine
New phrase construction for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:9. Must retain full binary relational force and not be softened into gradations of spiritual attainment resembling kasampurnan, which the baseline already excludes for ‘righteousness.‘
Receive Into House
Approved rendering: nampani wonten ing griya
Transliteration: nampani wonten ing griya
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Original: λαμβάνειν εἰς οἰκίαν
Category: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:10. Hospitality toward guests (tamu) is among the deepest Javanese social values; teaching material must state explicitly and repeatedly that this instruction is narrowly scoped to itinerant teachers actively denying Christ’s incarnation, never a general principle toward strangers or other faiths.
Greeting
Approved rendering: pambagya / salam
Transliteration: pambagya / salam
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Original: χαίρειν
Category: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:10-11, describing a greeting to be withheld. Withholding even a customary greeting is a severe breach of unggah-ungguh (Javanese social propriety); must be taught as narrowly scoped, never license for general rudeness or inhospitality.
Partake In Evil
Approved rendering: dados rowang ing pendamelan awon
Transliteration: dados rowang ing pendamelan awon
Doctrine: Complicity in False Teaching
Rejected alternatives: patunggilan (must NOT be reused here)
Original: κοινωνεῖ τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ τοῖς πονηροῖς
Category: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
New phrase for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:11. Uses the same Greek root as κοινωνία (‘fellowship’) but negatively. The baseline’s patunggilan (fellowship, Low, positive) must NOT be reused here; doing so would imply ordinary Christian fellowship itself is dangerous.
Election
Approved rendering: pepilihanipun Gusti Allah
Transliteration: pepilihanipun Gusti Allah
Doctrine: The ‘Elect’ Address (contrast term)
Rejected alternatives: wahyu
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly, reserved for the sovereign soteriological doctrine of election. NOT used for the adjectival ‘elect lady/sister’ address in 2 John 1:1, 1:13; see elect_person for the required distinct honorific term.
Elect Lady
Approved rendering: Ibu ingkang kinurmatan
Transliteration: Ibu ingkang kinurmatan
Doctrine: The ‘Elect’ Address (Elect Lady and Elect Sister)
Rejected alternatives: any Gusti-based term
Original: ἐκλεκτῇ κυρίᾳ
Category: Church and Address
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:1. Because Gusti is reserved exclusively for the divine title ‘Lord,’ κυρία must never be rendered with any Gusti-based term. Teaching material must also flag the genuine ancient interpretive ambiguity (individual woman vs. personified congregation).
Medium Risk Terms
Mercy
Approved rendering: kawelasan
Transliteration: kawelasan
Doctrine: Grace, Mercy, and Peace Greeting
Original: ἔλεος
Category: God
New term for this curriculum. Second element of the greeting-triad in 2 John 1:3. Must remain lexically distinct from sih-rahmat (grace, Critical) so the three-part greeting is not collapsed into one blended concept.
Peace
Approved rendering: katentreman
Transliteration: katentreman
Doctrine: Grace, Mercy, and Peace Greeting
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly. Third element of the greeting-triad in 2 John 1:3. Distinguish from inner calm sought through meditative or ascetic discipline; this is relational peace granted by God.
Love
Approved rendering: katresnan
Transliteration: katresnan
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Love and Commandment
New term for this curriculum, though already standard Javanese Christian vocabulary. Occurs in 2 John 1:1, 1:3, 1:5, 1:6. In ordinary usage can carry romantic or familial connotation; teach as willed, commandment-shaped love, not sentiment.
Commandment
Approved rendering: pepaken
Transliteration: pepaken
Doctrine: The Ancient Commandment of Love
Rejected alternatives: dhawuh (feudal court-decree overtone)
Original: ἐντολή
Category: Love and Commandment
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:4, 1:5, 1:6. Must avoid dhawuh’s keraton-decree connotation and stay distinct from the baseline’s angger-anggering Toret (Mosaic Law); this is the relational love-command received from the Father.
From The Beginning
Approved rendering: saking wiwitan
Transliteration: saking wiwitan
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς
Category: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:5, 1:6. Marks the apostolic teaching’s unbroken continuity, in deliberate contrast to any teacher claiming a new, more advanced revelation.
Abide
Approved rendering: tetep manggen / lestantun
Transliteration: tetep manggen / lestantun
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: μένω
Category: Truth and Doctrine
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:2, 1:9. Convey ongoing relational fidelity to received truth, not repeated ritual maintenance, paralleling the baseline’s caution that kaslametan must be distinguished from the repeated protective slametan ritual.
Watch Yourselves
Approved rendering: diwaspadakaken
Transliteration: diwaspadakaken
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward for Perseverance
Original: βλέπετε ἑαυτούς
Category: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:8. Active doctrinal vigilance against compromise, not anxious fear.
Lose
Approved rendering: kelangan
Transliteration: kelangan
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward for Perseverance
Original: ἀπόλλυμι
Category: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:8. Forfeiture of ministry fruit/reward, not the loss of personal salvation itself; keep distinction clear in teaching material.
Full Reward
Approved rendering: ganjaran ingkang jangkep
Transliteration: ganjaran ingkang jangkep
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward for Perseverance
Original: μισθὸς πλήρης
Category: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:8. Reward for faithful perseverance in already-secured salvation, not a wage earning standing before God; avoid drift toward utang budi, already forbidden for grace in the Romans baseline.
Wicked Works
Approved rendering: pendamelan awon
Transliteration: pendamelan awon
Doctrine: Complicity in False Teaching
Original: ἔργα πονηρά
Category: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:11. The false teacher’s doctrinal and social propagation of incarnation-denying teaching, treated as morally culpable activity.
Elect Person
Approved rendering: ingkang kapilih
Transliteration: ingkang kapilih
Doctrine: The ‘Elect’ Address (Elect Lady and Elect Sister)
Rejected alternatives: pepilihanipun Gusti Allah (reserved for soteriological election)
Original: ἐκλεκτός
Category: Church and Address
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:1, 1:13. A descriptive honorific for a valued individual or congregation, not a deployment of election doctrine.
Elder
Approved rendering: pinituwa
Transliteration: pinituwa
Doctrine: Apostolic Authority and Church Order
Rejected alternatives: sesepuh (generic village elder)
Original: πρεσβύτερος
Category: Church and Address
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:1 as the author’s self-designation. Must carry apostolic-era pastoral teaching authority, not mere social seniority.
Low Risk Terms
New Commandment
Approved rendering: pepaken enggal
Transliteration: pepaken enggal
Doctrine: The Ancient Commandment of Love
Original: ἐντολὴ καινή
Category: Love and Commandment
New term for this curriculum. Occurs only in the negated construction of 2 John 1:5 (‘not as though I were writing a new commandment’), setting up the contrast with the novel teaching of the deceivers in vv.7-10.
Fellowship
Approved rendering: patunggilan
Transliteration: patunggilan
Doctrine: Complicity in False Teaching (contrast term)
Rejected alternatives: kekancan
Original: κοινωνία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, copied exactly, positive sense only. Explicitly NOT reused for 2 John 1:11’s negative κοινωνέω (‘takes part in his wicked works’); see partake_in_evil for the required distinct phrase.
Children
Approved rendering: para putra
Transliteration: para putra
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship and Joy

Category: Church and Address
New term for this curriculum. Occurs in 2 John 1:1, 1:4, 1:13. Ordinary polite Javanese usage for ‘child’; no theological distortion.

Original: χαρά / χαίρω
Category: Practical and Relational
