Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — 1 John | English → Malayalam
This document provides the full doctrine matrix for 1 John, chapter by chapter, first verse to last, extending the baseline Romans Language Package. Risk tiers, doctrine names, and review routing are identical to doctrine_risk_registry.json for this curriculum — this document is the human-readable companion to that machine-readable registry, organized by chapter for translator and reviewer workflow rather than by doctrine key.
Every chapter of 1 John carries load-bearing doctrinal content; no chapter is doctrine-free. Each chapter section below is explicitly marked reviewed with its contributing doctrines, consistent with the PRD’s full-book-coverage mandate. The core passage, 1 John 4:7–21, is the theological anchor of the curriculum (God is Love; propitiation; deity/sonship of Christ; love for the brethren; assurance) but is not the scope boundary — all five chapters are analyzed in full below.
Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Matrix
1 John 1:1–10 — Reviewed. Contributing doctrines below.
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 John) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Word of Life and Apostolic Testimony | 1:1–4 | High | വചനം must carry the personal, incarnate-Word (Johannine Logos) sense established by the Malayalam Bible’s John 1:1, not a merely impersonal “teaching/message”; the apostolic witness is to a physically seen, heard, and touched Christ, directly reinforcing the Incarnation doctrine. | Human theologian |
| Joy and Apostolic Purpose in Writing | 1:4 | Low | സന്തോഷം/ആനന്ദം are standard, low-ambiguity Malayalam vocabulary for the letter’s pastoral purpose. | Automated review |
| Fellowship with God and One Another | 1:3, 1:6–7 | Medium | കൂട്ടായ്മ (baseline term) reused exactly; walking “in the light” (1:7) must be read as ongoing moral-relational communion, not a one-time initiation rite. | Native speaker |
| God is Light | 1:5 | Critical | ദൈവം പ്രകാശമാകുന്നു must be anchored to moral holiness/truthfulness against sin, not to Vedantic/bhakti enlightenment-illumination imagery (self-luminous Atman, dispelling ajnana) pervasive in the wider Malayalam corpus. First of two ontological “is” statements requiring byte-for-byte consistent rendering. | Human theologian |
| Confession and Forgiveness of Sin (introduced; continues into ch. 2) | 1:8–10 | High | Confession here is made directly to God, without a specified priestly intermediary; must be taught as complementary to, not contradictory with, the Catholic/Malankara Orthodox sacrament of confession (കുമ്പസാരം). ക്ഷമ must be distinguished from the generic Hindu ethical virtue of patient tolerance. | Human theologian |
1 John 2:1–29 — Reviewed. Contributing doctrines below.
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Confession and Forgiveness of Sin (continued) | 2:1, 2:12 | High | Same risk profile as 1:8–10; ഏറ്റുപറയുക must be used consistently for the confession-act. | Human theologian |
| Christ’s Advocacy (Intercession for Believers) | 2:1–2 | High | മദ്ധ്യസ്ഥന് built on the baseline’s മധ്യസ്ഥത root, applied exclusively to Christ’s unique heavenly mediatorial role; must not be blurred with general intercessory prayer among believers (cf. 5:16) or with Catholic/Orthodox saints-intercession devotional practice. | Human theologian |
| Propitiation and Atoning Sacrifice | 2:2 | Critical | Never bare പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം (the standing Hindu term for self-performed penance/expiation) without an explanatory clause; God supplies the atoning sacrifice, the sinner performs no expiating work — the reverse direction from the Sanskrit term’s default sense. Parallel severity to incarnation/അവതാരം in the baseline. | Human theologian |
| Fellowship with God and One Another (abide) | 2:6, 2:10, 2:24, 2:27–28 | Medium | വസിക്കുന്നു (abide/remain) must render identically at every occurrence given its very high frequency across the whole book. | Native speaker |
| Overcoming the World | 2:13–14 | Medium | ജയിക്കുന്നു must retain its ground in God’s word abiding in the believer (2:14), not self-achieved spiritual attainment. | Native speaker |
| Renunciation of Worldliness (Love Not the World) | 2:15–17 | High | ലോകം (Sanskrit loka) risks a cosmological-plane reading; the prohibition targets a value-system opposed to God, not creation or people as such. | Human theologian |
| The Incarnation and Antichrist | 2:18–23 | Critical | Extends the baseline’s Critical Incarnation doctrine; “antichrist” must remain a specific, defined category (denial of the Father-Son relationship), not a flattened generic-evil or horror-genre figure as popular Malayalam usage might suggest. | Human theologian |
| Christological Confession | 2:22–23 | Critical | Denial that Jesus is the Christ, and denial of the Father-Son relation, are the defining marks of “antichrist”; must not be softened into disagreement over religious opinion. | Human theologian |
| Anointing of the Holy Spirit | 2:20, 2:27 | High | അഭിഷേകം simultaneously names a major, highly visible Hindu temple ritual (ceremonial anointing of a deity’s image); must be framed as the Spirit’s internal teaching presence given to every believer, not a ritual act upon an external image. | Human theologian |
| New Birth (Born of God) | 2:29 | Critical | Never the standalone noun പുനര്ജനനം (phonetic/etymological near-twin of forbidden പുനര്ജന്മം, reincarnation); always the verbal phrase ജനിച്ചത്/ജനിച്ചവന്. | Human theologian |
1 John 3:1–24 — Reviewed. Contributing doctrines below.
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Children of God and Adoption | 3:1–2, 3:10 | Medium | ദൈവമക്കള് (organic new-birth family membership) must be taught as complementary to, not redundant with, the baseline’s ദത്തുപുത്രത്വം (legal adoption/inheritance rights). | Native speaker |
| New Birth (Born of God) | 3:9 | Critical | Same collision risk as 2:29; reinforced here by the “seed of God” (ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വിത്ത്, agricultural, not ബീജം) generative metaphor. | Human theologian |
| Sin as Lawlessness | 3:4 | High | Must be built on ന്യായപ്രമാണം (ന്യായപ്രമാണലംഘനം); never ധര്മ്മം/ധര്മ്മലംഘനം, which would reintroduce the forbidden cosmic-duty framework precisely where sin’s personal, relational character against a personal God is being defined. | Human theologian |
| Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth | 3:10–18 | High | The causal order (new birth produces capacity to love; love evidences new birth) must not be reversed into a merit-earns-birth, bhakti-style framework; 1 John’s bluntness (“of the devil,” “murderer”) must not be softened. | Human theologian |
| Practical Love in Deed and Truth | 3:16–18 | Low | Standard, well-established Malayalam ethical vocabulary contrasting verbal profession with concrete self-sacrificial action. | Automated review |
| Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life | 3:21–24 | High | ധൈര്യം (confidence) must convey confident standing before the divine Judge grounded in Christ’s work, not human courage; must render identically with 2:28, 4:17, 5:14. | Human theologian |
1 John 4:1–21 — Reviewed. Contributing doctrines below. (Core passage: 4:7–21)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Testing the Spirits | 4:1–6 | High | ആത്മാക്കളെ പരിശോധിക്കുക intersects with Kerala folk-Hindu spirit-entity traditions (ഭൂതം/പ്രേതം) and the philosophical ātman category; must be anchored strictly to the Christological confession test of 4:2–3, not generic paranormal discernment. | Human theologian |
| The Incarnation and Antichrist | 4:2–3 | Critical | Confession of Christ “come in the flesh” is 1 John’s explicit test-criterion distinguishing the Spirit of God from the spirit of antichrist; never അവതാരം in any part of this construction. | Human theologian |
| God is Love | 4:8, 4:16 | Critical | ദൈവം സ്നേഹമാകുന്നു must be anchored to the cross (4:9–10), never reduced to a generalized theistic benevolence compatible with bhakti devotionalism’s deity-favor-toward-devotee framework. Second of two ontological “is” statements requiring byte-for-byte consistent rendering at both occurrences. | Human theologian |
| Propitiation and Atoning Sacrifice | 4:10 | Critical | Same risk as 2:2; God “sent his Son” as the propitiation — the sinner’s role is receptive, never expiatory. | Human theologian |
| Deity and Sonship of Christ | 4:9, 4:15 | Critical | ഏകജാതനായ പുത്രന് (“only-begotten/unique Son”) must convey categorical uniqueness, not one son/avatar among several divine descents (Rama, Krishna) familiar from the broader Malayalam corpus. Never ദേവപുത്രന്. | Human theologian |
| Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth | 4:7–8, 4:20–21 | High | The core passage’s central love-command; “liar” (4:20) must not be softened. Love flows from having been born of God and known God (4:7), reinforcing the doctrine’s causal order. | Human theologian |
| Christological Confession | 4:15 | Critical | ”Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God” — the confession must remain unqualified and propositional, not a private, non-propositional “spiritual feeling.” | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life | 4:17–18 | High | ”No fear in love” (4:18) is assurance grounded in God’s perfected love, not the absence of felt anxiety through self-effort; ധൈര്യം must match 2:28/3:21/5:14. | Human theologian |
| Fellowship with God and One Another (abide) | 4:12–16 | Medium | വസിക്കുന്നു (“abides in love,” “abides in God”) — the compound of abide + love recurs at the doctrinal core of the curriculum and must be flagged as a compound-risk unit, not reviewed term-by-term only. | Native speaker |
1 John 5:1–21 — Reviewed. Contributing doctrines below.
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Christological Confession | 5:1, 5:5 | Critical | ”Believes that Jesus is the Christ” / “Jesus is the Son of God” — same unqualified-confession discipline as Romans 10:9 in the baseline. | Human theologian |
| Deity and Sonship of Christ | 5:5, 5:10–13, 5:20 | Critical | ”He who has the Son has life” (5:12) and “his Son Jesus Christ… the true God” (5:20) require the same categorical-uniqueness discipline as 4:9. | Human theologian |
| New Birth (Born of God) | 5:1, 5:4, 5:18 | Critical | ”Whoever is born of God overcomes the world” (5:4) is a compound-risk unit (new birth + overcoming) requiring flag as combined doctrinal weight, not component review alone. | Human theologian |
| Overcoming the World | 5:4–5 | Medium | ജയിക്കുന്നു grounded explicitly in faith (5:4–5), not self-achieved spiritual attainment. | Native speaker |
| The Threefold Testimony (Spirit, Water, Blood) | 5:6–8 | Medium | Catholic/Orthodox readers may bring sacramental (baptismal/eucharistic) associations to “water” and “blood”; treat as denominational-emphasis teaching point, not translation error, parallel to the baseline’s intercession note. | Native speaker |
| Eternal Life | 5:11–13, 5:20 | High | നിത്യജീവന് must remain personal, relational, unending life with God through the Son, presently possessed (5:12) — never drifted toward a മോക്ഷ-style liberation-from-rebirth framing, the same AI-drift risk family the baseline documents for രക്ഷ. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life | 5:14 | High | ”This is the confidence (ധൈര്യം) we have” — must match the identical rendering used at 2:28, 3:21, 4:17. | Human theologian |
| Sin Unto Death and Intercessory Prayer for Believers | 5:16–17 | Medium | Should not be assumed equivalent to the later Catholic mortal-sin/venial-sin categories, though readers from that tradition may bring that association; teach 1 John’s own pastoral-intercessory framing. | Native speaker |
| Children of God and Adoption | 5:2 | Medium | Continuity with 3:1–2, 3:10; ദൈവമക്കള് taught alongside ദത്തുപുത്രത്വം. | Native speaker |
| Exclusive Worship / Warning Against Idols | 5:20–21 | High | വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള് is simultaneously the ordinary word for consecrated images at the center of live, present-day Hindu temple worship across Kerala; must not be softened, but teaching material must supply pastoral framing (exclusive loyalty to the “true God” of 5:20) so the verse functions as a call to undivided worship, not an unexplained denunciation of neighbors’ religious practice. | Human theologian |

Compound-Risk Flags for Phase 2
The following verse-level combinations stack two or more independently flagged doctrines and must be flagged as a unit, not reviewed term-by-term only, per the precedent set in 08_core_glossary.md:
- 1 John 4:2–3 — Incarnation + Antichrist + Testing the Spirits (triple stack; the Christological confession is the literal test-criterion).
- 1 John 4:9–10 — Deity/Sonship of Christ + Propitiation + God is Love (the core passage’s theological hinge).
- 1 John 4:16 — God is Love + Fellowship/Abide (ontological statement fused with relational-indwelling language).
- 1 John 5:4 — New Birth + Overcoming the World.
- 1 John 5:20–21 — Deity/Sonship of Christ + Eternal Life + Exclusive Worship/Idolatry (the letter’s closing triple-stack warning).
- 1 John 2:22–23 — Incarnation/Antichrist + Christological Confession (definitional verse for “antichrist”).
This document extends, and must never contradict, the baseline Romans Language Package’s risk framework, forbidden-substitution list, and review-routing conventions. See assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (machine-readable, authoritative for Phase 2 routing) and analysis/08_core_glossary.md (term-level detail) for companion detail.
Critical Risk Doctrines
God is Light
Malayalam name: ദൈവം പ്രകാശമാകുന്നു
Key terms: light, darkness, walk in light
Review routing: Human theologian
പ്രകാശം is comparatively neutral in secular Malayalam register, but Hindu Vedantic and bhakti tradition uses light/illumination imagery pervasively for enlightenment and dispelling ignorance (e.g. Atman as self-luminous, ‘tamaso mā jyotir gamaya’). Must be anchored to moral holiness and truthfulness against sin, never to a jnana/enlightenment framework of an already-divine inner self.
God is Love
Malayalam name: ദൈവം സ്നേഹമാകുന്നു
Key terms: love, God is love, he first loved us
Review routing: Human theologian
Kerala’s bhakti devotional tradition affirms a deity’s loving favor toward a devotee, paralleling the baseline’s കൃപ (grace) caution. This doctrine goes further, identifying God’s very essence with self-giving love revealed at the cross (4:9-10); must never be reduced to a generalized theistic benevolence compatible with any devotional tradition. Requires byte-for-byte identical rendering at both occurrences (4:8, 16).
Propitiation and Atoning Sacrifice
Malayalam name: പാപപരിഹാരബലി
Key terms: propitiation, blood of Jesus, sent his Son
Review routing: Human theologian
The historic alternative rendering പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം is the standing Sanskrit-derived Hindu term for self-performed penance/expiation — the reverse of this doctrine’s direction, since God himself supplies the atoning sacrifice and the sinner performs no expiating work. Must never be rendered with bare പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം without an explanatory clause; parallel severity to the baseline’s incarnation/അവതാരം warning.
New Birth (Born of God)
Malayalam name: ദൈവത്തിൽനിന്നുള്ള പുതുജനനം
Key terms: born of God, seed of God, children of God, does not sin (habitually)
Review routing: Human theologian
The single highest-priority new risk this curriculum introduces beyond the baseline. The natural-seeming standalone noun പുനര്ജനനം is a phonetic/etymological near-twin of the baseline’s forbidden term പുനര്ജന്മം (reincarnation), used in Malayalam Hindu tradition for rebirth across a cycle of lives. 1 John’s begetting is definite and once-for-all. Always use the verbal phrase (ജനിച്ചത്/ജനിച്ചവന്), never a bare compound noun built on പുനര്-.
The Incarnation and Antichrist
Malayalam name: മാംസധാരണവും എതിർക്രിസ്തുവും
Key terms: incarnation, antichrist, confess Christ come in flesh, deny the Father and the Son
Review routing: Human theologian
Extends the baseline’s Critical Incarnation doctrine (never അവതാരം); 1 John 4:2-3 makes confession of the genuine incarnation the explicit criterion for distinguishing the Spirit of God from the spirit of antichrist. ‘Antichrist’ must remain a specific, defined category, not a vague metaphor for generic evil, a flattening risk present in Malayalam popular/cinematic usage.
Christological Confession
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഏറ്റുപറച്ചില്
Key terms: confess, Son of God, Jesus is the Christ
Review routing: Human theologian
1 John’s version of Romans 10:9’s salvation-confession; the same unqualified rendering discipline applies (യേശു ദൈവപുത്രന്/ക്രിസ്തു ആകുന്നു എന്നു ഏറ്റുപറയുന്നു, without softening). Must not be diluted into a private, non-propositional ‘spiritual feeling.‘
Deity and Sonship of Christ
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ദൈവത്വവും പുത്രത്വവും
Key terms: Son of God, only-begotten Son, Savior of the world
Review routing: Human theologian
ഏകജാതനായ പുത്രന്/ഏകപുത്രന് must convey categorical uniqueness, not one son/avatar among several divine descents — a live risk given the broader Malayalam corpus’s familiarity with multiple avatara narratives (Rama, Krishna). Never ദേവപുത്രന്.
High Risk Doctrines
Confession and Forgiveness of Sin
Malayalam name: പാപത്തിന്റെ ഏറ്റുപറച്ചിലും മോചനവും
Key terms: confess, forgive, cleanse, sin, unrighteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
Catholic and Malankara Orthodox tradition has a formal sacrament of confession, കുമ്പസാരം, heard by a priest. 1 John 1:9 describes confession made directly to God without a specified priestly intermediary. This is a denominational-emphasis difference to teach, not a doctrinal error to correct, parallel to the baseline’s handling of saints-intercession; ക്ഷമ must also be distinguished from the generic Hindu ethical virtue of patient tolerance.
Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Malayalam name: സഹോദരപ്രീതി പുതുജനനത്തിന്റെ അടയാളം
Key terms: love, brother, hate, born of God, liar
Review routing: Human theologian
The causal chain (new birth produces the capacity to love; love evidences new birth) must remain exactly ordered as in the Greek. Malayalam renderings must not imply the reverse — that loving well earns or produces new birth — which would collapse into a merit-based bhakti framework; 1 John’s bluntness (‘liar,’ 4:20) must not be softened.
Assurance of Salvation and Eternal Life
Malayalam name: രക്ഷയുടെയും നിത്യജീവന്റെയും ഉറപ്പ്
Key terms: confidence, eternal life, know that you have eternal life, no fear in love
Review routing: Human theologian
ധൈര്യം (confidence) must convey confident standing before the divine Judge grounded in Christ’s finished work, not human courage or stoic self-assurance; must render identically across 2:28, 3:21, 4:17, 5:14 per the Theological Consistency Rule.
Eternal Life
Malayalam name: നിത്യജീവന്
Key terms: eternal life, life is in his Son, he who has the Son has life
Review routing: Human theologian
Same AI-drift risk family the baseline documents for രക്ഷ (salvation): a generically-trained system might drift toward a മോക്ഷ-style liberation-from-rebirth framing given the broader non-Christian-authored Malayalam corpus. നിത്യജീവന് must remain personal, relational, unending life with God through the Son, presently possessed (5:12), not merit-accumulated or karma-released.
Renunciation of Worldliness (Love Not the World)
Malayalam name: ലോകത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കാതിരിക്കല്
Key terms: love not the world, lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, pride of life
Review routing: Human theologian
ലോകം (loka) is a Sanskrit cosmological loanword denoting a plane/realm of existence in Hindu cosmology; translators must ensure this prohibition is not read as a rejection of creation or of people, but of the value-system opposed to God, and must not let the term drift toward a cosmological-plane sense.
Testing the Spirits
Malayalam name: ആത്മാക്കളെ പരിശോധിക്കല്
Key terms: test the spirits, spirit of God, spirit of error, confess Christ come in flesh
Review routing: Human theologian
ആത്മാവ് shares its root with the established പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് (Holy Spirit), but its plural ആത്മാക്കള് (‘spirits’) intersects with Kerala folk-Hindu spirit-entity traditions (ഭൂതം/പ്രേതം) requiring appeasement or exorcism, and with the philosophical ātman category. Must be anchored to the fixed Christological confession test of 4:2-3, not generic paranormal discernment.
Anointing of the Holy Spirit
Malayalam name: പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിന്റെ അഭിഷേകം
Key terms: anointing, you know all things
Review routing: Human theologian
അഭിഷേകം is simultaneously the precise term for a major, highly visible present-day Hindu temple ritual (ceremonial anointing of a deity’s image, e.g. Guruvayur). Cannot be avoided outright since it underlies established Messianic vocabulary (ക്രിസ്തു); must be explicitly framed as the Holy Spirit’s internal teaching presence given to every believer, not a ritual act upon an external image.
Christ’s Advocacy (Intercession for Believers)
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യസ്ഥത
Key terms: advocate, propitiation, he is the propitiation
Review routing: Human theologian
Built on the baseline’s മധ്യസ്ഥത (intercession) root but applied here exclusively to Christ’s unique heavenly mediatorial role regarding sin’s guilt. Given Kerala’s well-developed Catholic/Orthodox devotional practice of seeking intercession through Mary and canonized saints, translator notes must not blur Christ’s unique advocacy function with general intercessory prayer practice (cf. 5:16) — a denominational-emphasis teaching point, not a doctrinal correction.
Sin as Lawlessness
Malayalam name: പാപം ന്യായപ്രമാണലംഘനമാകുന്നു
Key terms: sin, lawlessness, law
Review routing: Human theologian
Must always be built on the established ന്യായപ്രമാണം root (ന്യായപ്രമാണലംഘനം); NEVER on ധര്മ്മം (e.g. never ധര്മ്മലംഘനം), which would reintroduce the baseline’s forbidden cosmic-duty framework precisely where sin’s personal, relational character against a personal God is being defined.
Exclusive Worship / Warning Against Idols
Malayalam name: വിഗ്രഹാരാധനയ്ക്കെതിരായ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്
Key terms: idols, true God, keep yourselves from idols
Review routing: Human theologian
വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള് is simultaneously the ordinary word for consecrated images at the center of live, present-day Hindu temple worship across Kerala, not a historical or purely biblical-era referent. The verse must not be softened in translation, but teaching material must supply pastoral framing (exclusive loyalty to the ‘true God’ of 5:20 against every counterfeit rival to ultimate devotion) so the verse functions as a call to undivided worship rather than an unexplained denunciation of neighbors’ religious practice.
Word of Life and Apostolic Testimony
Malayalam name: ജീവന്റെ വചനവും അപ്പോസ്തലിക സാക്ഷ്യവും
Key terms: Word of life, we testify, that which we have seen and heard
Review routing: Human theologian
വചനം must carry the personal, incarnate-Word sense established in the Malayalam Bible’s John 1:1 rendering, not a merely impersonal ‘teaching/message,’ since the opening verses identify the apostolic message with the eyewitnessed, tangible, incarnate Christ, directly supporting the Incarnation doctrine.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Fellowship with God and One Another
Malayalam name: ദൈവത്തോടും അന്യോന്യവുമുള്ള കൂട്ടായ്മ
Key terms: fellowship, abide, walk in light, koinonia
Review routing: Native speaker
കൂട്ടായ്മ is a warm, well-established, low-ambiguity term reused from the baseline. The main risk is the compound-term consistency required for ‘abide’ (വസിക്കുന്നു), which recurs at very high frequency and must be rendered identically throughout the book.
Overcoming the World
Malayalam name: ലോകത്തെ ജയിക്കല്
Key terms: overcome, world, faith, born of God overcomes the world
Review routing: Native speaker
ജയിക്കുന്നു (overcome) must retain its source in God’s word/faith abiding in the believer (2:14; 5:4), not self-achieved spiritual attainment; ലോകം (world) must be read in its negative moral-system sense here, not as a Sanskrit-derived cosmic-realm reading.
Children of God and Adoption
Malayalam name: ദൈവമക്കളും ദത്തുപുത്രത്വവും
Key terms: children of God, adoption, children of the devil
Review routing: Native speaker
ദൈവമക്കള് (organic new-birth family membership) and the baseline’s ദത്തുപുത്രത്വം (legal adoption/inheritance rights) must be taught as complementary, not redundant or contradictory, dimensions of the same family status.
Sin Unto Death and Intercessory Prayer for Believers
Malayalam name: മരണത്തിനുള്ള പാപവും മധ്യസ്ഥപ്രാര്ത്ഥനയും
Key terms: sin unto death, sin not unto death, pray for him
Review routing: Native speaker
This English/Greek phrase can evoke, without being identical to, Catholic moral theology’s distinct mortal-sin/venial-sin categories; translator notes should clarify 1 John’s own pastoral-intercessory framing here rather than assume equivalence with that later theological system.
The Threefold Testimony (Spirit, Water, Blood)
Malayalam name: ആത്മാവിന്റെയും ജലത്തിന്റെയും രക്തത്തിന്റെയും സാക്ഷ്യം
Key terms: Spirit, water, blood, testimony
Review routing: Native speaker
Catholic and Malankara Orthodox readers may bring sacramental (baptismal and eucharistic) associations to ‘water’ and ‘blood’ that, while not erroneous, exceed 1 John’s immediate testimonial argument about Christ’s identity; treat as a denominational-emphasis teaching point, parallel to the baseline’s intercession note, not a translation error to correct.
Low Risk Doctrines
Practical Love in Deed and Truth
Malayalam name: പ്രവൃത്തിയിലും സത്യത്തിലുമുള്ള സ്നേഹം
Key terms: love in deed and truth, lay down his life, not in word only
Review routing: Automated review
Low ambiguity ethical instruction contrasting verbal profession with concrete self-sacrificial action; standard, well-established Malayalam vocabulary throughout.
Joy and Apostolic Purpose in Writing
Malayalam name: സന്തോഷവും അപ്പോസ്തലിക ഉദ്ദേശ്യവും
Key terms: joy, we write, fellowship
Review routing: Automated review
Low-ambiguity term stating the letter’s pastoral purpose; ആനന്ദം/സന്തോഷം are standard, low-risk Malayalam vocabulary with minimal devotional loading in ordinary usage.
Referenced passages
