Core Glossary

08 Core Glossary — 2 Timothy (English → Malayalam)

Purpose and Method

This glossary extends the baseline Romans Language Package for the 2 Timothy curriculum. Every term already established in translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json is reused exactly and marked “Baseline reuse” below; this glossary does not re-derive those renderings, only confirms their applicability to new 2 Timothy contexts. New terms — introduced because 2 Timothy’s seven curriculum doctrines (Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture; Perseverance under Suffering; Guarding Sound Doctrine; Faithful Transmission of the Gospel; The Charge to Preach the Word; Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days; Assurance of Reward) surface vocabulary not present in Romans — receive full first-time risk assessments here, following the same Critical/High/Medium/Low framework as the baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json.

Risk tier definitions (unchanged from baseline):

  • Critical — Mistranslation alters or destroys essential doctrine. Human theologian review required for every occurrence.
  • High — Mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk. Human theologian review required.
  • Medium — Mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning. Native speaker review recommended.
  • Low — Mistranslation causes minor misunderstanding or imprecision. Automated review sufficient.

Section B — New Doctrinal Terms Introduced by 2 Timothy

B1. Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives
God-breathed / inspiredθεόπνευστοςtheopneustosദൈവനിശ്വസ്തമായdaiva-nishwasthamayaCritical3:16Must convey divine origin (breathed out BY God), not mere devotional value or subsequent blessing. Builds on the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json doctrine name root “നിശ്വസ്തത,” first anchored at Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16 is this doctrine’s defining proof text. Rejected: a generic “ദൈവികമായ” (divine/godly) — too vague, loses the breath/origin metaphor entirely.
sacred/holy writingsἱερὰ γράμματαhiera grammataവിശുദ്ധലിഖിതങ്ങള്‍vishudha likhithangalCritical3:15Exact reuse of the compound already present in baseline’s doctrine name for “Inspiration of Scripture.” Distinct from γραφή (below) — this phrase specifically names the OT writings known to Timothy since infancy.
Scripture / writingγραφήgraphēതിരുവെഴുത്ത്thiruvezhuthuCritical3:16Settled Malayalam Bible term for “Scripture.” “πᾶσα γραφὴ” (“all/every Scripture”) must render the distributive universal claim without softening: സകല തിരുവെഴുത്തും.
profitable / usefulὠφέλιμοςōphelimosപ്രയോജനകരമായprayojanakaramayaLow3:16No collision risk.
reproof / convictionἐλεγμόςelegmosശാസനshaasanaMedium3:16Must retain corrective/confrontational force, not soften to “advice.”
correctionἐπανόρθωσιςepanorthōsisതിരുത്തൽthiruthalMedium3:16Restoration-to-right-state sense; distinct from mere critique.
training / disciplineπαιδείαpaideiaശിക്ഷണംshikshanamMedium3:16, 2:25Must convey formative discipline, not only punishment. Word-family with 2:25’s παιδεύοντα.
complete / proficientἄρτιοςartiosപരിപൂർണ്ണൻ / സമ്പൂർണ്ണൻparipoornnan / sampoornnanHigh3:17Must not read as sinless moral perfection; this is functional adequacy for ministry via Scripture.
equipped / thoroughly furnishedἐξαρτίζωexartizōസജ്ജമാക്കപ്പെട്ടsajjamakkappettaMedium3:17Pair with “every good work” to preserve the totality/sufficiency claim.
man of Godὁ τοῦ θεοῦ ἄνθρωποςho tou theou anthrōposദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ മനുഷ്യൻdaivathinte manushyanMedium3:17Established descriptive title; low ambiguity.
sound wordsὑγιαίνοντες λόγοιhygiainontes logoiസത്യവാക്യങ്ങൾsathya-vaakyangalHigh1:13Word-family with “sound doctrine” (B3 below); must be rendered as part of the same family for internal-book consistency.

B2. The Charge to Preach the Word

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives
I solemnly chargeδιαμαρτύρομαιdiamartyromaiഗൌരവപൂർവ്വം ആജ്ഞാപിക്കുന്നുgauravapoorvam aajnaapikkunnuHigh4:1Must retain the invoked-divine-witness, courtroom-solemnity register; not a casual request.
judge the living and the deadκρίνειν ζῶντας καὶ νεκρούςkrinein zōntas kai nekrousജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെയും മരിച്ചവരെയും വിധിക്കുവാൻjeevichirikkunnavareyum marichavareyum vidhikkuvaanMedium4:1Standard creedal phrase already recited in Malayalam denominational liturgy (Apostles’/Nicene Creed); check consistency with existing liturgical translations rather than re-inventing.
preach / proclaimκηρύσσωkēryssōപ്രസംഗിക്കുകprasangikkukaCritical4:2Must preserve authoritative-herald force; a drift toward “share/discuss” flattens the imperative charge.
heraldκῆρυξkēryxപ്രഘോഷകൻpraghoshakanLow1:11Noun form of κηρύσσω’s office.
the wordλόγος (τὸν λόγον)ho logosവചനംvachanamCritical4:2, also 2:9 “word of God”Must not be rendered with a generic word for “speech/topic”; this is the fixed apostolic/gospel message.
in season, out of seasonεὐκαίρως ἀκαίρωςeukairōs akairōsഅവസരത്തിലും അനവസരത്തിലുംavasarathilum anavasarathilumLow4:2Natural Malayalam idiom exists; no literal-translation strain needed.
reproveἐλέγχωelenchōശാസിക്കുകshaasikkukaMedium4:2Verb form of ἐλεγμός (B1).
rebuke sternlyἐπιτιμάωepitimaōതാക്കീത് ചെയ്യുകthaakkeethu cheyyukaMedium4:2Stronger than ἐλέγχω; implies consequence.
patience / longsufferingμακροθυμίαmakrothymiaദീർഘക്ഷമdeerghakshamaLow4:2Established Malayalam Bible term.
evangelist / work of an evangelistεὐαγγελιστήςeuangelistēsസുവിശേഷകൻsuvishekanLow4:5Transparent compound on baseline’s സുവിശേഷം (gospel).
ministry / serviceδιακονίαdiakoniaശുശ്രൂഷshushrushaMedium4:5Consistent with baseline doctrine registry’s use of ശുശ്രൂഷ for “Christ-Centered Ministry.”
fulfill fullyπληροφορέωplērophoreōപൂർണ്ണമായി നിറവേറ്റുകpoornnamaayi niraverrukaMedium4:5Emphasizes total, not partial, completion of ministry charge.

B3. Guarding Sound Doctrine

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives
sound / healthy doctrineὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλίαhygiainousa didaskaliaസത്യോപദേശംsathyopadeshamHigh4:3, cf. 1:13Curriculum-defining new compound; the “true/healthy” qualifier (സത്യ-) must always accompany ഉപദേശം in this doctrinal sense. Must be used with total consistency across all 2 Timothy translation output.
teaching / doctrine (general)διδασκαλία / διδαχήdidaskalia / didachēഉപദേശംupadeshamMedium3:16, 4:2, 4:3Fully established, ecumenical Malayalam Christian term (used for catechism, മതോപദേശം). COLLISION NOTE: this is also the classical Sanskrit-derived term for a guru’s spiritual instruction to a disciple in Advaita Vedanta and broader Hindu teaching traditions. Because 2 Timothy repeatedly frames doctrine-transmission in teacher-disciple language (Paul→Timothy), reviewers must ensure the object/content of ഉപദേശം stays explicitly apostolic and scriptural, not read as generic guru-wisdom. Not a forbidden term (unlike ഗുരു for “apostle” in baseline) — but flagged for consistent contextual anchoring.
teacherδιδάσκαλοςdidaskalosഉപദേഷ്ടാവ് / ഉപദേശകൻupadeshtavu / upadeshakanMedium1:11 (positive, Paul), 4:3 (negative, false teachers)Same word-family collision as ഉപദേശം. The two occurrences (Paul’s legitimate teaching office vs. the false teachers “heaped up” in 4:3) must remain contextually distinguishable; do not use a different root for each occurrence, as the letter’s own irony depends on the shared vocabulary.
guard / keepφυλάσσωphylassōകാത്തുകൊള്ളുകkaathukollakaHigh1:12, 1:14Pairs directly with “deposit” (below); consistent rendering across the curriculum is essential to this doctrine.
deposit / that which is entrustedπαραθήκη / παρακαταθήκηparathēkē / parakatathēkēനിക്ഷേപംnikshepamCritical1:12, 1:14Legal/financial trust-deposit metaphor; must convey a fixed, received treasure held for safekeeping and eventual return, not a modifiable personal possession. This is the single most important term for both Guarding Sound Doctrine and Faithful Transmission of the Gospel.
rightly handle / cut straightὀρθοτομέωorthotomeōസത്യവചനത്തെ സൂക്ഷ്മമായി കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്നsathya-vachanathe sookshmamaayi kaikaaryam cheyyunnaCritical2:15Rare compound verb (roadbuilding/plowing metaphor: “cut straight”); no single Malayalam word suffices. The meaning-based rendering must retain precision/undistorted-handling sense; risk of drift toward a vague “teach faithfully” that loses the “straight-cutting” nuance.
word of truthλόγος τῆς ἀληθείαςlogos tēs alētheiasസത്യവചനംsathya-vachanamHigh2:15Compound of വചനം (word, B2) + സത്യം (truth, B4).
empty babblingκενοφωνίαkenophōniaവ്യർത്ഥമായ സംസാരംvyarthamaya samsaaramLow2:16No significant collision risk.
gangreneγάγγραιναgangrainaവ്രണം അഴുകുന്നത്vranam azhukunnathuLow2:17Vivid medical metaphor for the spread of false teaching.
foundation (of God)θεμέλιοςthemeliosഅടിസ്ഥാനംadisthaanamMedium2:19God’s unshakeable foundation amid doctrinal chaos.
sealσφραγίςsphragisമുദ്രmudraMedium2:19മുദ്ര also denotes ritual hand-gestures/sacred symbols in Hindu/yogic tradition; well-established ecumenically in Christian ownership-seal usage, but context should make the authentication sense clear.

B4. Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives
last daysἔσχαται ἡμέραιeschatai hēmeraiഅന്ത്യകാലംanthyakaalamHigh3:1Must be taught as inclusive of the whole church age since Christ’s ascension, not narrowed to speculative date-setting.
perilous / difficult timesκαιροὶ χαλεποίkairoi chalepoiദുർഘടകാലംdurghata-kaalamMedium3:1Frames the following vice catalogue.
form of godliness (denying its power)μόρφωσις εὐσεβείας, δύναμιν ἠρνημένοιmorphōsis eusebeias, dynamin ērnēmenoiഭക്തിയുടെ വേഷം, ശക്തിയെ നിഷേധിച്ചവർbhakthiyude vesham, shakthiye nishedhichavarCritical3:5Both clauses (“form/appearance” and “denying its power”) must survive translation together; ഭക്തി alone carries strong positive devotional connotation in Malayalam, so the negating context must be unmistakable.
godliness / pietyεὐσέβειαeusebeiaഭക്തിbhakthiHigh3:5, 3:12CRITICAL DISTINCTION FROM BASELINE: baseline correctly rejects ഭക്തി for πίστις (“faith” → വിശ്വാസം). But εὐσέβεια is a different Greek word (lived devotion/piety, not trust), for which ഭക്തി is the long-established correct Malayalam rendering. 2 Timothy is the first curriculum in this pipeline where both Greek words appear together (3:5, 3:8, 3:10), making the two-Greek-words/two-Malayalam-words distinction newly load-bearing. Reviewers must never substitute one for the other.
knowledge of the truthἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείαςepignōsis alētheiasസത്യത്തിന്‍റെ പരിജ്ഞാനംsathyathinte parijnaanamHigh3:7Full, saving apprehension of truth, not mere accumulated information.
truthἀλήθειαalētheiaസത്യംsathyamHigh2:15, 2:18, 2:25, 3:7, 3:8, 4:4High cross-book frequency in direct contrast with deception/myth; consistency of this single term across every occurrence is doctrinally significant.
myths / fablesμῦθοιmythoiകെട്ടുകഥകൾkettukathakalMedium4:4Must read as doctrinally false content presented as truth, not merely “traditional legend,” given Kerala’s rich Puranic/folk-narrative culture.
turn aside / be divertedἐκτρέπομαιektrepomaiവഴിതെറ്റുകvazhithettukaMedium4:4Path/journey metaphor — departure from the apostolic “straight” way.
itching earsκνηθόμενοι τὴν ἀκοήνknēthomenoi tēn akoēnചെവിക്ക് ചൊറിച്ചിലുള്ളവരായിchevikku chorichilullavaraayiMedium4:3Established literal Malayalam Bible rendering of this idiom; retains vivid image cross-culturally.

impostor / charlatanγόηςgoēsവഞ്ചകൻvanchakanMedium3:13No significant collision risk.
devil’s snareδιαβόλου παγίςdiabolou pagisപിശാചിന്‍റെ കെണിpisaachinte keniMedium2:26Must retain a personal, malevolent agent (the devil), not an abstract “temptation.”
the resurrection has already happened (condemned false teaching)ἀνάστασιν ἤδη γεγονέναιanastasin ēdē gegonenaiഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേല്‍പ്പ് ഇതിനകം സംഭവിച്ചു എന്നuyirthezhunnelppu ithinakam sambhavichu ennuCritical2:18Reuses baseline’s Critical resurrection term inside a condemned claim; must render clearly as the rejected false teaching, not inadvertently affirmed.

B5. Perseverance under Suffering

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives
endure hardship / sufferκακοπαθέωkakopatheōകഷ്ടം സഹിക്കുകkashtam sahikkukaHigh1:8 (compound συγκακοπαθέω), 2:3, 2:9, 4:5Recurring across chapters 1, 2, and 4; consistent rendering frames suffering as expected and purposeful, not punitive.
share in sufferingσυγκακοπαθέωsynkakopatheōഒപ്പം കഷ്ടം സഹിക്കുകoppam kashtam sahikkukaHigh1:8, 2:3Word-family with κακοπαθέω; render as a family, not separately invented terms.
be ashamedἐπαισχύνομαιepaischynomaiലജ്ജിക്കുകlajjikkukaHigh1:8, 1:12, 1:16Echoes Romans 1:16 “not ashamed of the gospel”; recurring test of loyalty under social/legal pressure.
be sober / watchfulνήφωnēphōജാഗരൂകനായിരിക്കjaagarookanaayirikkaMedium4:5Metaphorical extension of literal sobriety to spiritual/mental alertness.

B6. Faithful Transmission of the Gospel

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives
entrust to faithful menπαρατίθημι πιστοῖς ἀνθρώποιςparatithēmi pistois anthrōpoisവിശ്വസ്തരായ മനുഷ്യരെ ഏല്‍പിക്കുകvishwastharaaya manushyare elpikkukaHigh2:2Proof-text for multi-generational gospel transmission (Paul→Timothy→faithful men→others); the chain-of-custody sense must be clear in Malayalam syntax.

gift (singular, ordination)χάρισμαcharismaആത്മീയവരംaatmeeya-varamMedium1:6Singular of baseline’s ആത്മീയവരങ്ങള്‍ pattern; must pair with ആത്മീയ to avoid a bare “boon” reading.

B7. Assurance of Reward

English GlossGreekTransliterationMalayalamMalayalam TransliterationRiskPassagesNotes / Rejected Alternatives

the crown of righteousnessὁ τῆς δικαιοσύνης στέφανοςho tēs dikaiosynēs stephanosനീതിയുടെ കിരീടംneethiyude kireedamCritical4:8Must be taught alongside justification-by-faith doctrine so the future reward for a faithful life is not misread as contradicting salvation by grace through faith; reward for faithful perseverance, not the ground of justification.

appearing / manifestationἐπιφάνειαepiphaneiaപ്രത്യക്ഷതpratyakshathaCritical at 1:10 / High at 4:1, 4:81:10, 4:1, 4:8Dual-risk term: Critical when referring to Christ’s first appearing/incarnation (1:10, directly adjacent to “abolished death” — must not evoke an avatar-style repeatable divine descent, per baseline’s incarnation rule); High when referring to the future/second appearing (4:1, 4:8).

the Lord will deliver me…and save me into his heavenly kingdomῥύσεταί με ὁ Κύριος…καὶ σώσει εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ τὴν ἐπουράνιονrhysetai me ho Kyrios…kai sōsei eis tēn basileian autou tēn epouranionകര്‍ത്താവ്…എന്നെ വിടുവിക്കും, തന്‍റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ രാജ്യത്തിലേക്ക് രക്ഷിക്കുംkarthavu…enne viduvikkum, thante swargeeya raajyathilekku rakshikkumHigh4:18Climactic combination of baseline കര്‍ത്താവ്, രക്ഷ, and ദൈവരാജ്യം terms; cumulative doctrinal weight requires non-diluted rendering of each component.

Section C — Special Collision-Management Notes for 2 Timothy

  1. ഭക്തി (bhakthi) — a two-Greek-word problem. The Romans baseline correctly forbids ഭക്തി as a rendering of πίστις (“faith,” which must always be വിശ്വാസം). 2 Timothy introduces εὐσέβεια (“godliness/piety,” a distinct Greek word describing lived devotion), for which ഭക്തി is in fact the long-established, correct Malayalam rendering. Both words occur near each other (3:5, 3:8, 3:10), making this the pipeline’s first case requiring translators to actively distinguish two Greek source words mapped to two different, non-interchangeable Malayalam terms. Flagged High for both terms in this book; escalate any segment where the two might be conflated to human theologian review.

  2. ഉപദേശം (upadesham) — established Christian usage with a Vedantic shadow. Unlike ഗുരു (explicitly forbidden for “apostle” in baseline), ഉപദേശം is not forbidden — it is the fully ecumenical Malayalam Christian term for “doctrine/teaching,” used across all denominations for catechetical instruction. However, because 2 Timothy repeatedly frames doctrine as something transmitted person-to-person (Paul to Timothy, Timothy to faithful men), and because ഉപദേശം is also the classical Sanskrit/Vedantic term for a guru’s instruction to a disciple, translators must keep the content of ഉപദേശം explicitly apostolic and scriptural in context, never merely implied by the lexeme. Flagged Medium throughout; consistent qualification (e.g., സത്യോപദേശം, “true/sound doctrine”) is required wherever the doctrinal (not merely lexical) sense is intended.

  3. നിക്ഷേപം (nikshepam, “deposit”) and കാത്തുകൊള്ളുക (kaathukollaka, “guard”) as a fixed pair. These two terms anchor both Guarding Sound Doctrine and Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (1:12, 1:14, 2:2). They must always be rendered as a matched pair across all 2 Timothy translation output — the gospel is a trust to be guarded, not a possession to be modified.

  4. ഇപ്പിഫനിയ / പ്രത്യക്ഷത (pratyakshatha) — dual risk tier by referent. ἐπιφάνεια is Critical at 1:10 (Christ’s first appearing, adjacent to incarnation doctrine and the baseline’s forbidden അവതാരം) and High at 4:1/4:8 (Christ’s future appearing). Any segment translator or reviewer must check which referent is active before assigning risk-routing.

  5. നീതിയുടെ കിരീടം (neethiyude kireedam, “crown of righteousness”) and justification. This reward-for-perseverance term must be taught in coordination with baseline’s Critical justification/imputed-righteousness terms so that the future reward of 4:8 is never confused with the ground of present justification (established at conversion, by faith, apart from works, per baseline’s imputed_righteousness entry).

Section D — Chapters with No New Load-Bearing Terms

No chapter of 2 Timothy is without theological vocabulary — all four chapters contribute new terms captured above. This section is retained per PRD Phase 1 methodology to confirm that full-book coverage was checked chapter by chapter and no chapter was silently skipped: Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4 have each been individually reviewed above (Section B and 07_semantic_analysis.md Parts 1–2); none were found to introduce zero new vocabulary.

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 2:8 (affirmed, paired with ‘seed of David’), 2:18 (appears inside a condemned false teaching, ‘the resurrection has already happened’ — must be framed unmistakably as the rejected claim, never inadvertently affirmed).

Lord

Approved rendering: കര്‍ത്താവ്
Transliteration: karthavu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Exclusive, supreme Lordship. Inherited from Romans package. Highest-frequency Critical term in 2 Timothy: 1:2, 1:8, 1:16, 1:18, 2:7, 2:19, 2:22, 2:24, 4:8, 4:14, 4:17, 4:18, 4:22. The personal register at 4:17-18 (‘the Lord stood by me…will deliver me’) must retain the same exclusive Lordship sense as the doctrinal confession, not soften into generic devotional address.

Incarnation

Approved rendering: മാംസധാരണം
Transliteration: mamsadharanam
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: അവതാരം

CRITICAL: never അവതാരം. Inherited from Romans package. Not directly lexicalized in 2 Timothy, but 1:10’s ἐπιφάνεια (Christ’s first appearing, directly beside ‘abolished death’) is doctrinally adjacent to Incarnation; this forbidden-term rule must be reinforced at that verse even though the word ‘incarnation’ itself does not recur there. See epiphaneia_first_appearing entry.

Messiah

Approved rendering: ക്രിസ്തു
Transliteration: kristu
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

ക്രിസ്തു required for doctrinal register. Inherited from Romans package. Extremely high frequency throughout 2 Timothy (1:1, 1:2, 1:9, 1:10, 1:13, 2:1, 2:3, 2:8, 2:10, 3:12, 3:15, 4:1).

Jesus

Approved rendering: യേശു
Transliteration: yeshu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Standard Satyavedapustakam form required. Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Timothy.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്
Transliteration: parishudhathmavu
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ബ്രഹ്മം, പരമാത്മാവ്
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον
Category: God

CRITICAL: never ബ്രഹ്മം/പരമാത്മാവ്. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 1:14 (‘through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us,’ guarding the deposit). Keep lexically and conceptually distinct from 1:7’s disposition-only ‘spirit of fear’ (see spirit_of_fear entry) — ആത്മാവ് must not read as the same entity in both places.

Father

Approved rendering: പിതാവ്
Transliteration: pithavu
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 1:2, epistolary greeting (‘God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord’).

Imputed Righteousness

Approved rendering: ആരോപിതനീതി
Transliteration: aropithaneethi
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: സമ്പാദിച്ച നീതി

Never സമ്പാദിച്ച നീതി (earned righteousness). Inherited from Romans package. Not directly lexicalized in 2 Timothy, but essential cross-reference for 4:8’s ‘crown of righteousness’ (see crown_of_righteousness entry) — the crown rewards a life already justified by grace through faith; it is never a second means of becoming righteous.

Theopneustos

Approved rendering: ദൈവനിശ്വസ്തമായ
Transliteration: daiva-nishwasthamaya
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: ദൈവികമായ
Original: θεόπνευστος
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM. Must convey divine origin (breathed out BY God), not mere subsequent blessing or devotional value. Never soften to the generic ദൈവികമായ (divine/godly), which loses the breath/origin metaphor. 2 Timothy 3:16 is this curriculum’s defining proof text; the whole doctrine collapses if this term drifts toward a vague quality-claim.

Hiera Grammata

Approved rendering: വിശുദ്ധലിഖിതങ്ങള്‍
Transliteration: vishudha likhithangal
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: ἱερὰ γράμματα
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (3:15). Exact reuse of the compound already present in the baseline doctrine-name root for Inspiration of Scripture (from Romans 15:4). Names the specific OT writings known to Timothy since infancy; distinct from γραφή (see graphe entry).

Graphe

Approved rendering: തിരുവെഴുത്ത്
Transliteration: thiruvezhuthu
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: γραφή
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (3:16). Settled Malayalam Bible word for ‘Scripture.’ The distributive ‘πᾶσα γραφὴ’ (‘all/every Scripture’) must render as സകല തിരുവെഴുത്തും — never softened to a partitive ‘some Scripture.‘

Kerysso

Approved rendering: പ്രസംഗിക്കുക
Transliteration: prasangikkuka
Doctrine: The Charge to Preach the Word
Rejected alternatives: പറയുക, പങ്കിടുക
Original: κηρύσσω / κήρυξον
Category: Ministry

CRITICAL: never soften to പറയുക (say/tell) or പങ്കിടുക (share). NEW TERM, curriculum title-doctrine verb (4:2). Must preserve authoritative-herald force; a drift toward a softer verb flattens the doctrine’s charge-like force.

The Word

Approved rendering: വചനം
Transliteration: vachanam
Doctrine: The Charge to Preach the Word
Original: ὁ λόγος
Category: Ministry

NEW TERM (object of κηρύσσω, 4:2; also ‘word of God,’ 2:9). Must not be rendered with a generic word for ‘speech’ or ‘topic’; the object of preaching is a fixed, received message, not the herald’s own invention.

Paratheke

Approved rendering: നിക്ഷേപം
Transliteration: nikshepam
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Rejected alternatives: ചുമതല
Original: παραθήκη / παρακαταθήκη
Category: Doctrine

NEW TERM, the single most important term for both Guarding Sound Doctrine and Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (1:12, 1:14). Legal/financial deposit metaphor; must convey a fixed, received treasure held in trust for another, not a modifiable personal possession. Never a bare ‘responsibility’ (ചുമതല), which loses the legal/financial deposit metaphor.

Orthotomeo

Approved rendering: സത്യവചനത്തെ സൂക്ഷ്മമായി കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്ന
Transliteration: sathya-vachanathe sookshmamaayi kaikaaryam cheyyunna
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: ὀρθοτομέω
Category: Doctrine

NEW TERM (2:15). Rare compound verb (‘cut straight,’ roadbuilding/plowing metaphor); no single Malayalam word suffices. The meaning-based rendering must retain the sense of careful, undistorted precision — risk of drift toward a vague ‘teach faithfully’ that loses the anti-distortion nuance.

Morphosis Eusebeias

Approved rendering: ഭക്തിയുടെ വേഷം, അതിന്‍റെ ശക്തിയെ നിഷേധിച്ചവർ
Transliteration: bhakthiyude vesham, athinte shakthiye nishedhichavar
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: μόρφωσις εὐσεβείας, δύναμιν αὐτῆς ἠρνημένοι
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM, the single-verse diagnostic for the whole Apostasy doctrine (3:5). Both clauses (‘form/appearance’ and ‘denying its power’) must survive translation together as one inseparable unit, never split across segments — ഭക്തി alone carries strong positive devotional connotation in Malayalam, so the negating context must be unmistakable or readers may hear a commendation rather than a diagnosis of counterfeit religion.

Resurrection Already Happened

Approved rendering: ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേല്‍പ്പ് ഇതിനകം സംഭവിച്ചു എന്ന
Transliteration: uyirthezhunnelppu ithinakam sambhavichu ennu
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Original: ἀνάστασιν ἤδη γεγονέναι
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM (2:18), reusing the baseline’s Critical resurrection term inside a rejected claim. Must render as an explicitly condemned false teaching, not inadvertently affirmed — require explicit condemnation-framing words present in every rendering, not merely implied by context.

Arnesometha Arnesetai

Approved rendering: നിഷേധിക്കും
Transliteration: nishedhikkum
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: ἀρνησόμεθα…ἀρνήσεται
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (2:12). Must preserve the verse’s own juxtaposition with 2:13 without importing a systematic resolution the Greek text itself does not spell out; sits directly beside the Apostasy doctrine and touches historic perseverance/assurance debates.

Crown Of Righteousness

Approved rendering: നീതിയുടെ കിരീടം
Transliteration: neethiyude kireedam
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: ὁ τῆς δικαιοσύνης στέφανος
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (4:8), reusing baseline’s Critical/High നീതി. Must be taught alongside imputed_righteousness so this future reward for a faithfully-lived life is never misread as contradicting salvation by grace through faith; the crown rewards faithful perseverance empowered by grace, and is not the ground of justification. Mandatory cross-reference translator note required for every occurrence.

Epiphaneia First Appearing

Approved rendering: പ്രത്യക്ഷത
Transliteration: pratyakshatha
Doctrine: Incarnation and the First Appearing of Christ
Rejected alternatives: അവതാരം

NEW TERM, dual-referent risk tier: THIS occurrence is 1:10, Christ’s historical first coming, directly beside ‘abolished death’ — functionally an incarnation-and-resurrection statement. Must not evoke an avatar-style repeatable divine descent, reinforcing baseline’s forbidden-term rule (never അവതാരം) even though the lexeme itself is not ‘incarnation.’ See epiphaneia_second_appearing for the lower-tier future-appearing occurrences at 4:1/4:8.

High Risk Terms

Grace

Approved rendering: കൃപ
Transliteration: krupa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: പുണ്യം
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Shared vocabulary with Kerala’s Hindu bhakti devotional tradition; keep the source of grace explicitly Christ’s finished work. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 1:2, 1:9, 2:1, 4:22. 2:1 (‘be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus’) applies grace specifically to ministry endurance under suffering — keep strength grace-given, not a product of cumulative bhakti-style devotion.

Righteousness

Approved rendering: നീതി
Transliteration: neethi
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ധര്‍മ്മം
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation

Never ധര്‍മ്മം. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 2:22, 3:16, 4:8. NEW CONTEXT: 4:8’s ‘crown of righteousness’ (നീതിയുടെ കിരീടം) reuses this term in a future-reward-for-perseverance sense; must be taught alongside imputed_righteousness so the crown is never misread as a second, works-based justification.

Salvation

Approved rendering: രക്ഷ
Transliteration: raksha
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: മോക്ഷം, മുക്തി
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

Never മോക്ഷം/മുക്തി. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 2:10, 3:15, 4:18. 3:15 ties salvation explicitly to Scripture’s purpose (‘wisdom unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus’) — keep the Christ-directed object of saving wisdom explicit so Scripture’s sufficiency is not read as generic self-help wisdom.

Election

Approved rendering: ദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ്
Transliteration: daivathinte thiranjeduppu
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: വിധി, തലയെഴുത്ത്
Original: ἐκλεκτός
Category: Salvation

Never വിധി/തലയെഴുത്ത്. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 2:10 (‘for the sake of the elect’) — God’s sovereign choice, not impersonal destiny, grounds Paul’s suffering.

Seed Of David

Approved rendering: ദാവീദിന്‍റെ വംശത്തില്‍
Transliteration: daveedinte vamshathil
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: σπέρμα Δαυίδ
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 2:8, paired directly with the resurrection (‘raised from the dead, of the seed of David’) — the gospel’s fixed historical content Timothy must guard.

Artios

Approved rendering: പരിപൂർണ്ണൻ / സമ്പൂർണ്ണൻ
Transliteration: paripoornnan / sampoornnan
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: ἄρτιος
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (3:17). The doctrinal warrant for Scripture’s sufficiency. Must not be rendered as moral/sinless perfection — this is functional adequacy for ministry, not flawlessness.

Sound Words

Approved rendering: സത്യവാക്യങ്ങൾ
Transliteration: sathya-vaakyangal
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: ὑγιαίνοντες λόγοι
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (1:13). Word-family with ‘sound doctrine’ (sound_doctrine entry, 4:3); must be rendered as part of the same family (സത്യ- qualifier) for internal-book consistency, since the letter deliberately repeats this health metaphor.

Diamartyromai

Approved rendering: ഗൌരവപൂർവ്വം ആജ്ഞാപിക്കുന്നു
Transliteration: gauravapoorvam aajnaapikkunnu
Doctrine: The Charge to Preach the Word
Original: διαμαρτύρομαι
Category: Ministry

NEW TERM (4:1). Must retain the invoked-divine-witness, courtroom-solemnity register; not a casual request but a binding charge witnessed by God and Christ Jesus.

Sound Doctrine

Approved rendering: സത്യോപദേശം
Transliteration: sathyopadesham
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Category: Doctrine

NEW, curriculum-defining compound not present in the Romans baseline (4:3, cf. 1:13’s ‘sound words’). The സത്യ- qualifier must always accompany ഉപദേശം in this doctrinal sense, to avoid a bare guru-instruction-flavored reading. Must be used with total consistency across all 2 Timothy translation output.

Phylasso

Approved rendering: കാത്തുകൊള്ളുക
Transliteration: kaathukollaka
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: φυλάσσω / φύλαξον
Category: Doctrine

NEW TERM (1:12, 1:14). Pairs directly with ‘deposit’ (see paratheke entry); consistent rendering of this verb-noun pair across the curriculum is essential — protective vigilance, not passive custody.

Word Of Truth

Approved rendering: സത്യവചനം
Transliteration: sathya-vachanam
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: λόγος τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Doctrine

NEW TERM (2:15), compound of വചനം (word) + സത്യം (truth); object of ὀρθοτομέω.

Eschatai Hemerai

Approved rendering: അന്ത്യകാലം
Transliteration: anthyakaalam
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: ἔσχαται ἡμέραι
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM (3:1). Must be taught as inclusive of the whole church age since Christ’s ascension, not narrowed to speculative date-setting. Must never be conflated with the cyclical Hindu Kali Yuga framework; explicit contrastive teaching is required, not merely correct vocabulary.

Eusebeia

Approved rendering: ഭക്തി
Transliteration: bhakthi
Doctrine: Godliness/Piety as Distinct from Faith
Original: εὐσέβεια
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM. IMPORTANT: the baseline correctly rejects ഭക്തി for πίστις (‘faith,’ reserved for വിശ്വാസം). εὐσέβεια is a DIFFERENT Greek word (lived devotion/piety, not trust), for which ഭക്തി is the long-established, correct Malayalam rendering (3:5, 3:8, 3:10, 3:12). Never substitute one Greek word’s term for the other’s.

Epignosis Aletheias

Approved rendering: സത്യത്തിന്‍റെ പരിജ്ഞാനം
Transliteration: sathyathinte parijnaanam
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM (3:7). Full, saving apprehension of truth, not mere accumulated information; the tragic goal never reached by those ‘always learning’ but never arriving at truth.

Aletheia

Approved rendering: സത്യം
Transliteration: sathyam
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM with high cross-book frequency (2:15, 2:18, 2:25, 3:7, 3:8, 4:4), always in direct contrast with deception/myth. Consistency of this single term across every occurrence is doctrinally significant; must not vary with paraphrase synonyms.

Planontes Kai Planomenoi

Approved rendering: വഴിതെറ്റിക്കുകയും വഴിതെറ്റുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നവർ
Transliteration: vazhithettikkukayum vazhithettukayum cheyyunnavar
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: πλανῶντες καὶ πλανώμενοι
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM (3:13). The mutual/reflexive structure (deceiving AND being deceived) must not collapse into a one-directional ‘deceivers,’ since the doctrine here is that false teachers are also victims of their own error.

Kakopatheo

Approved rendering: കഷ്ടം സഹിക്കുക
Transliteration: kashtam sahikkuka
Doctrine: Perseverance under Suffering
Original: κακοπαθέω / κακοπάθησον
Category: Perseverance

NEW TERM, recurring across chapters 1, 2, and 4 (1:8 compound, 2:3, 2:9, 4:5). Consistent rendering across the whole curriculum frames suffering as expected and purposeful, not punitive or accidental.

Synkakopatheo

Approved rendering: ഒപ്പം കഷ്ടം സഹിക്കുക
Transliteration: oppam kashtam sahikkuka
Doctrine: Perseverance under Suffering
Original: συγκακοπαθέω
Category: Perseverance

NEW TERM, word-family with κακοπαθέω (1:8, 2:3); render as a matched family, not a separately invented term.

Epaischynomai

Approved rendering: ലജ്ജിക്കുക
Transliteration: lajjikkuka
Doctrine: Perseverance under Suffering
Original: ἐπαισχύνομαι
Category: Perseverance

NEW TERM, echoing Romans 1:16’s ‘not ashamed of the gospel’; recurs at 1:8, 1:12, 1:16 as a repeated test of loyalty to the gospel and to Paul’s imprisonment under social/legal pressure. Must be tied to the gospel, not South Asia’s broader honor-shame social codes.

Paratithemi Pistois Anthropois

Approved rendering: വിശ്വസ്തരായ മനുഷ്യരെ ഏല്‍പിക്കുക
Transliteration: vishwastharaaya manushyare elpikkuka
Doctrine: Faithful Transmission of the Gospel
Original: παρατίθημι πιστοῖς ἀνθρώποις
Category: Transmission

NEW TERM, the proof-text for Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (2:2): Paul → Timothy → faithful men → others. Render with explicit sequential clauses so all four chain-of-custody links remain visible; do not compress into a generic ‘teach others.‘

Symbasileusomen

Approved rendering: ഒരുമിച്ചു വാഴും
Transliteration: orumichu vaazhum
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: συμβασιλεύσομεν
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (2:12). A load-bearing reward statement; must not be flattened to generic future blessing.

Pistos Menei

Approved rendering: അവൻ വിശ്വസ്തനായി നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു, തന്നെത്താൻ നിഷേധിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല
Transliteration: avan vishwasthanaayi nilanilkkunnu, thannethaan nishedhikkaan kazhiyilla
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: πιστὸς μένει, ἀρνήσασθαι ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (2:13), the doctrinal anchor for Assurance of Reward. Must be kept as a statement about God’s own unchanging nature, not a comment on the believer’s security in isolation from 2:12’s warning.

Fought Good Fight

Approved rendering: നല്ല പോരാട്ടം പോരാടിയിരിക്കുന്നു
Transliteration: nalla poraattam poraadiyirikkunnu
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: τὸν καλὸν ἀγῶνα ἠγώνισμαι
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (4:7), the most quoted single statement of Assurance of Reward. Must retain the sense of a completed, honorable contest, not merely ‘I tried.‘

Kept The Faith

Approved rendering: വിശ്വാസം കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു
Transliteration: vishwasam kaathusookshichirikkunnu
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: τὴν πίστιν τετήρηκα
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (4:7), same root family as φυλάσσω and παραθήκη. Directly links Assurance of Reward back to Guarding Sound Doctrine and Faithful Transmission — the reward is for guarding what was entrusted, not innovating.

Epiphaneia Second Appearing

Approved rendering: പ്രത്യക്ഷത
Transliteration: pratyakshatha
Doctrine: The Second Coming (Future Appearing) of Christ

NEW TERM, occurrences at 4:1 and 4:8, referring to Christ’s singular future appearing. Must be conveyed as a unique historical future event, not a cyclical divine manifestation. Any translator/reviewer must check which referent (first vs. second appearing) is active before risk-routing; do not risk-route by lexeme alone.

Loved The Present Age

Approved rendering: ഈ ലോകത്തെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു
Transliteration: ee lokathe snehichu
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: ἠγάπησεν τὸν νῦν αἰῶνα
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM (4:10). Must be rendered so the direct antithetical parallel with 4:8’s ‘loved his appearing’ is recoverable — the same love-verb applied to two different objects is the theological point; verify the shared verb root (സ്നേഹിച്ചു) is used identically in both verses.

Lord Will Deliver And Save

Approved rendering: കര്‍ത്താവ് എന്നെ വിടുവിക്കും, തന്‍റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ രാജ്യത്തിലേക്ക് രക്ഷിക്കും
Transliteration: karthavu enne viduvikkum, thante swargeeya raajyathilekku rakshikkum
Doctrine: Assurance of Reward
Original: ῥύσεταί με ὁ Κύριος…καὶ σώσει εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ τὴν ἐπουράνιον
Category: Reward

NEW TERM (4:18), combining baseline കര്‍ത്താവ്, രക്ഷ, and ദൈവരാജ്യം with the new ‘heavenly’ (സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ) qualifier. The cumulative doctrinal weight of this doxological closing statement requires non-diluted rendering of each component term.

Holy Calling

Approved rendering: പരിശുദ്ധ വിളി
Transliteration: parishudha vili
Doctrine: Divine Calling (Holy Calling)
Original: κλῆσις ἁγία
Category: Salvation

NEW compound (1:9) combining two baseline High-risk terms (holy + calling). Must be distinguished from fatalistic Malayalam idioms (e.g. തലയെഴുത്ത്) and must retain the grace-grounded, purpose-driven sense the same verse states (‘not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace’).

Abolished Death

Approved rendering: മരണത്തെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു
Transliteration: maranathe neekkikkalanju
Doctrine: Incarnation and the First Appearing of Christ
Original: καταργήσαντος τὸν θάνατον
Category: Christology

NEW TERM (1:10), directly connected to Resurrection doctrine. Must not be softened to merely ‘overcame’ without the sense of decisive nullification of death’s power.

Medium Risk Terms

Gospel

Approved rendering: സുവിശേഷം
Transliteration: suvisesham
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Established across all Malayalam Christian traditions; low invention risk, main risk is AI-drift toward a less precise paraphrase. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 1:8, 1:10, 2:8; also root of the new compound ‘evangelist’ (സുവിശേഷകൻ, 4:5).

Faith

Approved rendering: വിശ്വാസം
Transliteration: vishwasam
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ഭക്തി
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Personal trust in Christ; never ഭക്തി. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 1:5, 2:18, 2:22, 3:8, 3:10, 3:15, 4:7. NEW CONTEXT: 2 Timothy is the first curriculum text where വിശ്വാസം (πίστις) occurs alongside the distinct term ഭക്തി (a different Greek word, εὐσέβεια) in the same passages (3:5, 3:8, 3:10); never conflate or swap the two.

Called

Approved rendering: വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ട
Transliteration: vilikkappetta
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλητός / κλῆσις (verbal use)
Category: Salvation

Context-sensitive. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 1:9, underlying the new compound ‘holy calling’ (see holy_calling entry).

Calling

Approved rendering: വിളി
Transliteration: vili
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 1:9, combined with ‘holy’ into പരിശുദ്ധ വിളി (see holy_calling entry).

Holy

Approved rendering: പരിശുദ്ധ
Transliteration: parishudha
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ശുദ്ധം
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Moral/relational set-apartness, not ritual purity. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 1:9 (‘holy calling’), 3:15 (word-family with ‘holy Scriptures,’ ἱερὰ γράμματα).

Sanctification

Approved rendering: വിശുദ്ധീകരണം
Transliteration: vishudheekaranam
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιασμός / ἡγιασμένος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrence: 2:21, applied to the ‘vessel for honor’ metaphor — sanctified and useful for ministry.

Spiritual Gifts

Approved rendering: ആത്മീയവരങ്ങള്‍
Transliteration: atmeeya varangal
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: വരം

Always pair വരം with ആത്മീയ. Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy 1:6 uses the singular form (see charisma entry) for Timothy’s specific ordination gift.

Church

Approved rendering: സഭ
Transliteration: sabha
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: അമ്പലം

Never അമ്പലം. Inherited from Romans package. Not a frequent lexeme in 2 Timothy itself but doctrinally relevant background for 2:19-22’s household/foundation/vessel imagery describing the church’s corporate life.

Kingdom Of God

Approved rendering: ദൈവരാജ്യം
Transliteration: daivarajyam
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Original: βασιλεία
Category: Kingdom

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 4:1, 4:18. 4:18 qualifies it as heavenly (ἐπουράνιος), rendered സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ രാജ്യം — keep both the baseline term and the heavenly qualifier intact.

Glory

Approved rendering: മഹത്വം
Transliteration: mahatvam
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 2:10 (eternal glory as the goal of the elect’s salvation), 4:18 (closing doxology, an established liturgical form).

Power Of God

Approved rendering: ദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ ശക്തി
Transliteration: daivathinte shakthi
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Original: δύναμις
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. 2 Timothy occurrences: 1:7, 3:5. NEW CONTEXT at 3:5: used negatively (‘having a form of godliness but denying its power’) — must not be read as denying an impersonal energy but denying God’s transforming action. See morphosis_eusebeias entry.

God

Approved rendering: ദൈവം
Transliteration: daivam
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ഭഗവാന്‍
Original: θεός
Category: God

Avoid ഭഗവാന്‍. Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Timothy.

Elegmos

Approved rendering: ശാസന / ശാസിക്കുക
Transliteration: shaasana / shaasikkuka
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: ἐλεγμός / ἔλεγξον
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (noun 3:16, verb 4:2). Must retain corrective, confrontational force; do not soften to gentle ‘advice.‘

Epanorthosis

Approved rendering: തിരുത്തൽ
Transliteration: thiruthal
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: ἐπανόρθωσις
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (3:16). Restoration to a right state, distinct from mere diagnosis of error (ἐλεγμός).

Paideia

Approved rendering: ശിക്ഷണം
Transliteration: shikshanam
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: παιδεία / παιδεύοντα
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM, word-family across 3:16 (Scripture’s training) and 2:25 (gently correcting opponents, παιδεύοντα). Must convey formative discipline, not mere punishment.

Exartizo

Approved rendering: സജ്ജമാക്കപ്പെട്ട
Transliteration: sajjamakkappetta
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: ἐξαρτίζω / ἐξηρτισμένος
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (3:17). Pair with ‘every good work’ to preserve the totality/sufficiency claim — no supplementary authority is needed beyond Scripture.

Man Of God

Approved rendering: ദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ മനുഷ്യൻ
Transliteration: daivathinte manushyan
Doctrine: Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Original: ὁ τοῦ θεοῦ ἄνθρωπος
Category: Scripture

NEW TERM (3:17). Established descriptive title applied to Timothy and, by extension, every minister of the word; low ambiguity.

Judge Living And Dead

Approved rendering: ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെയും മരിച്ചവരെയും വിധിക്കുവാൻ
Transliteration: jeevichirikkunnavareyum marichavareyum vidhikkuvaan
Doctrine: Christ as Judge of the Living and the Dead
Original: κρίνειν ζῶντας καὶ νεκρούς

Teaching Doctrine

Approved rendering: ഉപദേശം
Transliteration: upadesham
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: διδασκαλία / διδαχή
Category: Doctrine

NEW TERM (3:16, 4:2, 4:3). Fully established ecumenical Malayalam Christian word (used for catechism, മതോപദേശം), but also the classical Sanskrit-derived term for a guru’s spiritual instruction to a disciple in Advaita Vedanta and broader Hindu teaching traditions. Because 2 Timothy repeatedly frames doctrine-transmission in teacher-disciple language (Paul→Timothy, 2:2), the content of ഉപദേശം must stay explicitly apostolic and scriptural in context, never read as generic guru-wisdom. Not forbidden, but flagged for consistent contextual anchoring.

Teacher

Approved rendering: ഉപദേഷ്ടാവ് / ഉപദേശകൻ
Transliteration: upadeshtavu / upadeshakan
Doctrine: Guarding Sound Doctrine
Original: διδάσκαλος
Category: Doctrine

NEW TERM. Used positively of Paul’s own office (1:11) and negatively of self-appointed false teachers (4:3). Same word-family collision as ഉപദേശം; the two occurrences must remain contextually distinguishable but must use the same root, since the letter’s own irony depends on shared vocabulary between legitimate and false teaching offices.

NEW TERM (2:19). Also denotes ritual hand-gestures/sacred symbols in Hindu/yogic tradition (mudras); well-established ecumenically in Christian ownership-seal usage, but context should make the authentication sense explicit, not a ritual-gesture sense.

Transliteration: kettukathakal
Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Original: μῦθοι
Category: Apostasy

NEW TERM (4:4). Must read as doctrinally false content presented as truth, not merely ‘traditional legend,’ given Kerala’s rich Puranic and folk-narrative storytelling tradition, so as not to appear dismissive of storytelling generally.

Doctrine: Ministry, Ordination, and the Spiritual Gift
Rejected alternatives: വരം

Transliteration: jeevante vaagdhattham
Doctrine: Faithful Transmission of the Gospel

NEW TERM (1:1). വാഗ്ദത്തം (promise) is distinct from baseline’s ഉടമ്പടി (covenant) — a promise is content, covenant is the relational frame. Frames Paul’s apostleship around a divine promise, not human commission.

Doctrine: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days

NEW composite entry (3:2-4), an eighteen-vice catalogue of last-days character. Individually low-ambiguity Malayalam moral vocabulary, but the climactic contrastive pair (lovers of pleasure vs. lovers of God) must be preserved as a direct antithesis, not diluted into a flat list.
