Cross-Reference Analysis

09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — Matthew (Full Book) — English → Malayalam

Methodology and Citation Normalization

This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation and significant allusion in Matthew 1–28, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every point of contact with the baseline Romans curriculum, so that Phase 2 translation preserves cross-curricular consistency for any quotation, title, or doctrine shared between the two books.

Citation format. All citations in this document use the normalizable English convention Book Chapter:Verse (e.g., Matthew 21:42, Isaiah 7:14, Genesis 15:6) so that citations can be programmatically matched across documents regardless of destination-language book-name conventions. When these citations are rendered into the final Malayalam-facing deliverables, they must follow the Malayalam Bible citation convention already established in the baseline (12_ai_translation_requirements.md → Cross-Reference Preservation Rules): Malayalam book name + Arabic numerals, e.g. മത്തായി 21:42, യെശയ്യാവ് 7:14, ഉല്‍പത്തി 15:6. Matthew itself = മത്തായി (mathai), a new book-name mapping not present in the Romans baseline and required for this curriculum’s citation table.

Scope. Every chapter of Matthew is represented. Chapters with no direct OT quotation still typically carry allusion or typological freight (e.g., Matthew 6, 7, 14, 19, 25) and are included on that basis; where a chapter genuinely contributes nothing new to this cross-reference layer beyond material already logged for an earlier chapter, it is marked “reviewed — no independent OT citation” rather than omitted.

Risk tiers in the “Translation Sensitivity” column follow doctrine_risk_registry.json and 08_core_glossary.md exactly: Critical/High require theologian review; Medium requires native-speaker review; Low requires automated review only.

Part 1 — Full Cross-Reference Matrix

Ch.Matthew PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
1Matthew 1:1-17Jesus as Promised Messiah and Son of DavidAbraham, David, JesusGenesis (patriarchal narratives); Ruth 4; 1 Chronicles 1–3 (royal genealogy)High. ദാവീദിന്‍റെ പുത്രന്‍/വംശത്തില്‍ terms must match the baseline’s Romans 1:3 “seed of David” phrase in intent even though grammatical form differs; this is the curriculum’s single strongest direct terminological bridge to Romans.
1Matthew 1:22-23Incarnation; Deity of ChristJesus, MaryIsaiah 7:14 (virgin shall conceive… Immanuel)Critical. Fulfillment-formula citation; ഇമ്മാനുവേല്‍ transliteration + gloss required. Never കന്യക framed with devotional/mythic resonance (Kanyakumari association).
2Matthew 2:5-6Jesus as Promised Messiah and Son of DavidHerod, chief priests, scribesMicah 5:2 (ruler from Bethlehem)High. Direct messianic-birthplace prophecy; render consistently with Matthew’s own fulfillment-formula vocabulary (നിറവേറി).
2Matthew 2:15Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; typology (Israel/Exodus)Jesus, Joseph, MaryHosea 11:1 (“out of Egypt I called my son”)Medium. Typological re-application (originally about Israel corporately, applied to Jesus individually) — translator note should clarify this is Matthew’s Spirit-guided typological reading, not a claim that Hosea originally predicted a literal future person.
2Matthew 2:17-18Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; suffering surrounding the MessiahRachel (typological), the children of BethlehemJeremiah 31:15 (Rachel weeping for her children)Medium. Grief-typology; low doctrinal ambiguity but emotionally weighty — standard vocabulary suffices.
2Matthew 2:23Fulfillment of OT ProphecyJesusGeneral allusion, “he shall be called a Nazarene” (no single verbatim OT source; scholarly consensus points to a wordplay on Isaiah 11:1’s נֵצֶר, netser, “branch”)Medium. Flag for theologian awareness only; no unique Malayalam rendering risk beyond the fulfillment-formula already logged.
2Matthew 2:1-12Mission to the Nations (anticipatory); Jesus as Promised MessiahMagi (Gentiles), HerodNumbers 24:17 (star out of Jacob, allusion); Psalm 72:10-11 (kings bring gifts, allusion); Isaiah 60:3, 6 (nations come to the light, allusion)Medium. Anticipates Great Commission/Gentile-inclusion doctrine; വിദ്വാന്മാര്‍ rendering must avoid endorsing astrology as legitimate practice (see 07 analysis).
3Matthew 3:3Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; forerunner typologyJohn the BaptistIsaiah 40:3 (voice crying in the wilderness)Low-Medium. Standard fulfillment citation; no unique Malayalam risk.
3Matthew 3:17Sonship of Christ; Deity of Christ; TrinityFather, Jesus, Holy SpiritPsalm 2:7 (You are my Son); Isaiah 42:1 (my chosen, in whom I delight) — combined allusionCritical. Direct overlap with baseline’s Critical Sonship-of-Christ/Deity-of-Christ terms (ദൈവപുത്രന്‍); Trinitarian voice scene, parallel to Romans 1:4’s declared-Son language.
4Matthew 4:4, 7, 10Authority of Jesus’ Teaching; DiscipleshipJesus, the devilDeuteronomy 8:3; Deuteronomy 6:16; Deuteronomy 6:13 (Jesus’s three Scripture-quoting responses)Medium. Models Scripture as the ground of authoritative resistance to temptation — ties Authority-of-Jesus’-Teaching doctrine to a concrete narrative example. Standard vocabulary.
4Matthew 4:15-16Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; Mission to the NationsGalilean crowdsIsaiah 9:1-2 (people in darkness have seen a great light)High. Light-to-the-Gentiles theme anticipates the Great Commission; must not be flattened to a generic “hope” metaphor — the light is specifically Messiah’s in-breaking presence.
5Matthew 5:3-12Core passage — see 07_semantic_analysis.md for full verse-by-verse treatmentJesus, disciples, crowdsSee individual entries belowSee below
5Matthew 5:4Discipleship; Judgment and comfortThose who mournIsaiah 61:2-3 (comfort those who mourn in Zion)Medium. Echo, not verbatim quotation; mourning includes grief over sin, per Isaiah 61’s context of restoration after judgment.
5Matthew 5:5Discipleship; Kingdom inheritanceThe meekPsalm 37:11 (the meek shall inherit the land/earth)Medium. Covenant-inheritance language; render consistently with the baseline’s Adoption doctrine’s “full inheritance rights” framing.
5Matthew 5:17-20Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees; Authority of Jesus’ TeachingJesus, scribes, PhariseesGeneral allusion to the whole Mosaic Law and Prophets (ν όμος/ν προφῆται)High. The doctrinal balance point of the whole Gospel regarding the Law’s continuity and fulfillment; must be handled with the same care as Romans 3:31 (“do we then overthrow the law by faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law”) — a direct cross-curricular parallel requiring theological consistency between the two curricula’s treatment of law/righteousness.
5Matthew 5:21-48Righteousness Exceeding the PhariseesJesusExodus 20:13-17; Leviticus 19:18; Deuteronomy 24:1 (the six “antitheses,” each introduced “you have heard that it was said”)High. Jesus internalizes/intensifies, rather than abolishes, Mosaic commands; translator notes must preserve this as escalation of righteousness’s inward scope, not repeal.
6Matthew 6:9-13Divine Calling/Sonship; DiscipleshipJesus, disciples, the FatherStructural echo of Jewish liturgical prayer (Kaddish, Amidah); no single OT verbatim citationCritical. Reuses baseline’s Critical പിതാവ് (Father) term; direct terminological link to Romans 8:15’s Abba, Father.
6Matthew 6:19-24Discipleship and the Cost of Following JesusJesusGeneral wisdom-tradition allusion (treasure, single-mindedness); no direct citationMedium. മാമോന്‍ (mammon) transliteration retains personification; see 07 analysis.
7Matthew 7:1-5Righteousness Exceeding the PhariseesJesusGeneral wisdom-tradition allusion; no direct citationLow-Medium. See 07/08 analysis re: വിധിക്കുക root-collision with വിധി (fate).
7Matthew 7:13-14Discipleship and the Cost of Following JesusJesusDeuteronomy 30:19 (the two ways, life and death, allusion); Psalm 1 (the two paths, allusion)Medium. Exclusivity-of-the-narrow-way theme; parallel to Romans’ exclusivity of salvation through faith in Christ alone.
7Matthew 7:28-29Authority of Jesus’ TeachingJesus, crowds, scribesNo direct OT citation; contrast implied with scribal citation-based teaching authorityHigh. Thesis-statement verse for the doctrine; ἐξουσία/അധികാരം must be kept terminologically distinct from ശക്തി (power).
8Matthew 8:17Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; Atonement (anticipatory)Jesus, the sickIsaiah 53:4 (he took up our infirmities and bore our diseases)Critical. First Isaiah 53 (Suffering Servant) citation in Matthew; direct thematic link to Romans 10:16’s citation of Isaiah 53:1 and to the baseline’s Critical Salvation/Imputed-Righteousness doctrines. Requires consistent Suffering-Servant vocabulary across both curricula (see Part 5 below).
8Matthew 8:11Kingdom of Heaven; Mission to the NationsAbraham, Isaac, Jacob, “many from east and west”Genesis (patriarchal promise, allusion); anticipates Romans 4’s Abrahamic-faith argumentHigh. Gentile inclusion at the patriarchal banquet table; direct thematic anticipation of Romans 4 and 9–11’s treatment of Abraham’s true children.
9Matthew 9:13Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees; MercyJesus, Pharisees, “tax collectors and sinners”Hosea 6:6 (“I desire mercy, and not sacrifice”)High. See 07/08 analysis; κρuna/കരുണ must be anchored in God’s priority, not generalized ethical compassion. Repeats verbatim at Matthew 12:7 — rendering must be identical both times.
9Matthew 9:27; 9:6, 8Jesus as Promised Messiah and Son of David; Deity of ChristTwo blind men; JesusFirst “Son of David” address-title in narrative (Matthew 9:27); “authority to forgive sins” (9:6, 8) implicitly asserts divine prerogative (cf. only God forgives sins, e.g. Psalm 32:5, Isaiah 43:25)Critical. Authority-to-forgive-sins claim shares the baseline’s Deity-of-Christ risk tier.
10Matthew 10:35-36Discipleship and the Cost of Following JesusJesus, family membersMicah 7:6 (son against father, daughter against mother)Medium. Cost-of-discipleship theme; must not read as endorsement of family conflict for its own sake — the point is Christ’s claim exceeding all other loyalties.
10Matthew 10:1-15The Great Commission (anticipatory); ApostleshipThe TwelveAnticipates the fuller sending in Matthew 28:19-20Medium. Reuses baseline’s Low-risk അപ്പോസ്തലന്‍; first narrative commissioning, precursor to the Great Commission doctrine.
11Matthew 11:5Jesus as Promised MessiahJesus, John the Baptist’s disciplesIsaiah 61:1; Isaiah 35:5-6 (the blind see, the lame walk, allusion)High. Messianic-credential citation answering John’s question (“are you the one who is to come?”); must be read as fulfillment evidence, not a general healing-ministry description.
11Matthew 11:10Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; forerunner typologyJohn the BaptistMalachi 3:1 (I send my messenger before your face)Medium. Standard fulfillment citation.
12Matthew 12:7Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees; MercyJesus, PhariseesHosea 6:6 (repeat of Matthew 9:13)High. Must render identically to Matthew 9:13 — same Malayalam wording for both occurrences is a hard consistency requirement.
12Matthew 12:18-21Jesus as Promised Messiah; Mission to the NationsJesusIsaiah 42:1-4 (Servant Songs; “he will proclaim justice to the nations”)Critical. Longest single OT quotation in Matthew; Suffering-Servant typology directly parallel to Romans 15:12’s citation of Isaiah 11:10 (“in him the Gentiles will hope”) — both anchor Gentile-inclusion doctrine in Isaiah’s Servant/Root-of-Jesse material.
12Matthew 12:39-41Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; Resurrection of Christ (typology)Jesus, “this generation,” JonahJonah 1–2 (three days and nights in the fish, typology)Critical. Typological payload is the Resurrection (baseline Critical doctrine); ensure typological framing does not weaken the historical, once-for-all resurrection claim it foreshadows.
12Matthew 12:42Jesus as Promised Messiah (greater-than typology)Jesus, Queen of the South (Sheba)1 Kings 10:1-13 (Queen of Sheba’s visit to Solomon, typology)Medium. “Greater than Solomon” typology; standard vocabulary.
13Matthew 13:14-15Judgment; Mystery of the KingdomJesus, crowdsIsaiah 6:9-10 (seeing but not perceiving)High. Explains the judicial/revelatory dual function of parables; must not soften into “the crowd simply didn’t understand” — this is a divine judicial hardening motif requiring careful theological framing.
13Matthew 13:35Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; Mystery of the KingdomJesusPsalm 78:2 (“I will open my mouth in parables”)Medium. Standard fulfillment citation.
14Matthew 14:13-21Messianic sign; typologyJesus, the 5,0002 Kings 4:42-44 (Elisha multiplies loaves, typology); Exodus 16 (manna, typology)Medium. Prophet-and-greater-than-prophet typology; no unique lexical risk beyond standard narrative vocabulary. Reviewed — no new OT citation vocabulary.
14Matthew 14:33Sonship of Christ; Deity of ChristDisciples, Jesus— (direct confession, not an OT citation)Critical. Reuse of baseline’s ദൈവപുത്രന്‍, Critical per baseline.
15Matthew 15:4Righteousness Exceeding the PhariseesJesus, PhariseesExodus 20:12 / Deuteronomy 5:16 (honor your father and mother)Medium. Contrast between actual commandment and human tradition.
15Matthew 15:8-9Righteousness Exceeding the PhariseesJesus, Pharisees, scribesIsaiah 29:13 (“this people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me”)High. Direct anticipation of the ὑποκριταί (hypocrite) motif and heart/lips contrast that runs through the whole doctrine of Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees.
16Matthew 16:16Jesus as Promised Messiah; Sonship of Christ; Deity of ChristPeter, JesusDirect confession; echoes Psalm 2:7 and Daniel 7:13-14 conceptuallyCritical. The Gospel’s central Christological confession; zero tolerance for softened rendering; direct parallel to Romans 10:9’s confession formula — both must independently and consistently render “Christ” and “Son of God/Lord” per baseline.
16Matthew 16:19The Church and Church DisciplineJesus, PeterIsaiah 22:22 (“I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David,” allusion)High. Keys-of-the-kingdom authority; see 07/08 analysis on bind/loose (കെട്ടുക/അഴിക്കുക).
17Matthew 17:5Sonship of Christ; Deity of Christ; Authority of Jesus’ TeachingFather, Jesus, Peter/James/JohnRepeats Matthew 3:17’s Psalm 2:7/Isaiah 42:1 allusion, with added “listen to him” (cf. Deuteronomy 18:15, the prophet like Moses)Critical. Deuteronomy 18:15 allusion directly ties Jesus’s teaching authority to the promised Prophet-like-Moses — a strong textual anchor for “The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching.”
17Matthew 17:10-13Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; forerunner typologyJesus, disciples, John the Baptist (as Elijah-figure)Malachi 4:5-6 (Elijah to come before the day of the Lord)Medium. Typological (not literal reincarnation) identification of John with Elijah — translator note should preempt any reincarnation-adjacent misunderstanding, paralleling the baseline’s general caution against പുനര്‍ജന്മം-adjacent readings anywhere in the corpus.
18Matthew 18:16The Church and Church DisciplineBelievers in conflictDeuteronomy 19:15 (a matter established by two or three witnesses)Medium. Procedural due-process principle imported into church discipline; standard vocabulary.
18Matthew 18:12-14The Church and Church Discipline; MercyJesus, “the least of these”Ezekiel 34:11-16 (God himself seeks the lost sheep, allusion)Medium. Restorative-shepherding theme underlying church discipline’s redemptive aim.
19Matthew 19:4-5Discipleship; created orderJesus, PhariseesGenesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24 (male and female; the two become one flesh)Medium. Creation-covenant grounding of marriage; standard vocabulary.
19Matthew 19:18-19Righteousness Exceeding the PhariseesJesus, the rich young manExodus 20:12-16 / Deuteronomy 5:16-20 (Decalogue); Leviticus 19:18 (love your neighbor)Medium. Leviticus 19:18 recurs at Matthew 22:39 — see that entry for the direct Romans 13:9 parallel.
20Matthew 20:28Ransom/Atonement; Suffering Servant typologyJesus, “the Son of Man”Isaiah 53:10-12 (Servant’s life poured out as an offering for many, allusion)Critical. Matthew’s clearest atonement statement (മറുവില, ransom); directly parallel to Romans 3:24-25’s ransom/propitiation language and to the baseline’s Critical Salvation and Imputed-Righteousness doctrines — required cross-curricular consistency point (see Part 5).
21Matthew 21:5Jesus as Promised Messiah; Fulfillment of OT ProphecyJesusZechariah 9:9 (your king comes… humble, mounted on a donkey)Critical. Direct, public messianic-fulfillment moment (triumphal entry); requires theologian review per escalation rules for Messianic Promise.
21Matthew 21:9, 15Jesus as Promised Messiah; Sonship (Son of David)Crowds, childrenPsalm 118:25-26 (“Hosanna… blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”)High. ഹോശന്ന transliteration + gloss required, per 07/08 analysis; direct public acclamation combining Son-of-David and Psalm 118 vocabulary.
21Matthew 21:13The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (temple authority)JesusIsaiah 56:7 (“my house shall be called a house of prayer”); Jeremiah 7:11 (“den of robbers”)Medium. Standard fulfillment-formula vocabulary, combined citation from two prophets.
21Matthew 21:16Jesus as Promised MessiahJesus, chief priestsPsalm 8:2 (“out of the mouths of infants… you have prepared praise”)Medium. Standard citation.
21Matthew 21:33-41Judgment; Israel’s leadership and the ChurchJesus, tenants, landownerIsaiah 5:1-7 (the vineyard song, allusion)High. Judgment-on-unfaithful-leadership theme; must be read alongside Romans 9–11 (Israel’s place in God’s plan) per Part 5’s consistency rule for Matthew 21:43.
21Matthew 21:42Jesus as Promised Messiah; JudgmentJesus, chief priests, eldersPsalm 118:22-23 (the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone)Critical. Direct cross-curricular parallel: the same “stone” typology (Psalm 118:22 combined with Isaiah 28:16 and Isaiah 8:14) underlies Romans 9:33 and Romans 10:11. Both curricula’s renderings of this stone-typology must use compatible, non-contradictory vocabulary for “stumbling stone / cornerstone” — see Part 5.
21Matthew 21:43Kingdom of Heaven; Unity of Jews and Gentiles (Romans 9–11 parallel)Jesus, chief priests, PhariseesThematic parallel to Romans 9–11 (Israel’s temporary unfruitfulness, Gentile grafting)High. Must not be read as ethnic replacement of Israel; translator notes should cross-reference Romans 11:17-24’s olive-tree metaphor for balanced teaching.
22Matthew 22:32Resurrection of the dead (general, not Christ’s own)Jesus, SadduceesExodus 3:6 (“I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”)High. Resurrection-of-the-dead argument from God’s continuing covenant relationship with the patriarchs; distinct from, but doctrinally adjacent to, the baseline’s Critical Resurrection-of-Christ term — same Malayalam root (ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേല്‍പ്പ്-family) applies.
22Matthew 22:37Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees; Authority of Jesus’ TeachingJesus, a Pharisee/lawyerDeuteronomy 6:5 (love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and mind)Medium. Foundational Shema-citation; സ്നേഹം per 08 glossary.
22Matthew 22:39Righteousness Exceeding the PhariseesJesusLeviticus 19:18 (love your neighbor as yourself)High. Direct cross-curricular parallel: the identical OT citation underlies Romans 13:9 (“love your neighbor as yourself… the whole law is fulfilled in this one word”) and Galatians 5:14. Malayalam സ്നേഹം rendering of this exact clause must be held identical across the Matthew and Romans curricula — see Part 5.
22Matthew 22:44Lordship of Christ; Deity of ChristJesus, David (typologically), PhariseesPsalm 110:1 (“The LORD said to my Lord, sit at my right hand”)Critical. David’s-Lord riddle; direct deity claim; reuses baseline’s Critical കര്‍ത്താവ്/Lord term twice in one verse (two different Hebrew words, אֲדֹנָי vs. יהוה, both rendered κύριος in the LXX and both must be handled with a translator note on the wordplay).
23Matthew 23:35Judgment; persecution of the prophetsJesus, scribes, Pharisees, “Zechariah son of Barachiah”2 Chronicles 24:20-21 (murder of Zechariah the priest, allusion)Medium. Places the scribes/Pharisees within the OT’s own pattern of persecuting God’s messengers — reinforces Matthew 5:12’s “so they persecuted the prophets” theme.
24Matthew 24:15Judgment and the End of the AgeJesus, disciplesDaniel 9:27; Daniel 11:31; Daniel 12:11 (the abomination of desolation)Critical. Apocalyptic-judgment vocabulary; must remain a specific, historically-anchored (yet partially still-future) event, not vague generalized crisis language.
24Matthew 24:29-30Judgment and the End of the Age; Deity/Lordship of ChristJesus, “the Son of Man”Isaiah 13:10; Isaiah 34:4 (sun/moon darkened, cosmic judgment imagery); Daniel 7:13-14 (Son of Man coming on the clouds with power and glory)Critical. Direct combination of the baseline’s Critical Resurrection/Lordship-adjacent glory language with the Son-of-Man/Parousia terms newly introduced in this curriculum (മനുഷ്യപുത്രന്‍, ആഗമനം); highest-density eschatological citation cluster in the Gospel.
24Matthew 24:37-39Judgment and the End of the AgeJesus, “the days of Noah”Genesis 6–7 (the Flood, typology of sudden, decisive judgment)Medium. Typological warning against complacency; standard vocabulary.
25Matthew 25:31-46Judgment and the End of the AgeJesus (“the Son of Man”), “the least of these,” “sheep,” “goats”Ezekiel 34:17-24 (the LORD judges between fat and lean sheep, shepherd typology, allusion)High. Fullest final-judgment scene in the Gospel; reuses κληρονομέω/അവകാശമാക്കുക (inherit) and αἰώνιος/നിത്യം (eternal) — both flagged terms from 08 glossary.
26Matthew 26:15, 26:31Judgment; Fulfillment of OT Prophecy; Passion typologyJudas, Jesus, the TwelveZechariah 11:12-13 (thirty pieces of silver); Zechariah 13:7 (“I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered”)High. Betrayal and abandonment foretold; consistent fulfillment-formula vocabulary required, paired with Matthew 27:9-10’s fuller citation of the same Zechariah material (see below).
26Matthew 26:26-28Atonement; New Covenant; Passover typologyJesus, the TwelveExodus 12 (Passover); Exodus 24:8 (covenant blood); Jeremiah 31:31-34 (new covenant)High. Reuses baseline’s ഉടമ്പടി (covenant, Medium in baseline, elevated here by direct atonement-blood content per the baseline’s own Romans 3:25 escalation rule).
26Matthew 26:63-64Deity of Christ; Sonship of Christ; JudgmentJesus, the high priestIsaiah 53:7 (silent before his accusers, allusion); Daniel 7:13-14 (Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven)Critical. Highest Christological-density verse-cluster in the Gospel; flag for mandatory theologian review in Phase 2 per 07 analysis.
27Matthew 27:9-10Fulfillment of OT ProphecyJudas, the chief priestsZechariah 11:12-13 (content); attributed in the Greek text to “Jeremiah”High. Known textual-critical attribution issue (content is Zechariah’s, attribution names Jeremiah, likely reflecting an ancient scroll-naming convention where “Jeremiah” headed a combined prophetic scroll). Translator note required so this is not mistaken for a translation error; do not silently “correct” the attribution in the Malayalam text — render exactly as the Greek states and explain in a footnote.
27Matthew 27:35Passion typology; Suffering of the MessiahRoman soldiers, JesusPsalm 22:18 (they divide my garments, cast lots for my clothing)Medium. Standard passion-typology citation.
27Matthew 27:46Atonement; Sonship of Christ; the depth of Christ’s sufferingJesusPsalm 22:1 (“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)Critical. See 07/08 analysis — preserve the transliterated Aramaic/Hebrew cry with immediate Malayalam gloss, per the baseline’s Abba-pattern; never smoothed over.
27Matthew 27:57-60Suffering Servant typology (burial)Joseph of Arimathea, JesusIsaiah 53:9 (“his grave… with a rich man,” allusion)Medium. Completes the Isaiah 53 typological arc begun at Matthew 8:17.
28Matthew 28:6Resurrection of ChristThe women, the angel(Fulfillment of Christ’s own predictions, e.g. Matthew 16:21, 17:23, 20:19; typologically anticipated by Jonah, Matthew 12:40)Critical. Single highest-stakes resurrection verse in the book; see 08 glossary.
28Matthew 28:18Lordship of Christ; Deity of Christ; Judgment and the End of the AgeJesus, the disciplesDaniel 7:14 (“to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom”)Critical. “All authority (ἐξουσία) has been given to me” directly fulfills the Daniel 7 Son-of-Man enthronement — ties together ἐξουσία (Ch. 7 doctrine), Son of Man (Ch. 8-26 doctrine), and Lordship of Christ into a single climactic verse.
28Matthew 28:19-20The Great Commission; Mission to the NationsJesus, the Eleven, “all nations”Genesis 12:3 (all families of the earth blessed through Abraham, allusion); Psalm 2:8 (nations as inheritance, allusion)Critical. Direct thematic and terminological anticipation across into Romans 1:5 and 16:26’s “obedience of faith among all nations” (ἔθνη/ജനതകള്‍ in its maximal universal sense) — see Part 5.

Part 2 — Messianic Reference Summary

Part 4 — Reviewed, No Independent New Citation Vocabulary

The following chapters were reviewed against the full-book cross-reference requirement and contribute allusive or typological material already logged under an earlier or parallel chapter entry above, with no additional Malayalam-rendering-sensitive vocabulary beyond what Part 1 already records: Matthew 6 (Lord’s Prayer liturgical echoes only, logged above), Matthew 7 (wisdom-tradition allusions only, logged above), Matthew 14 (typology only, logged above), Matthew 19 (creation-order and Decalogue citations logged above), Matthew 23 (Zechariah-allusion logged above; remainder is direct denunciation without further OT citation).

Part 5 — Parallels to the Romans Curriculum and Rendering-Consistency Rules

Matthew and Romans share a number of OT citations, titles, and doctrinal threads. Because learners will move between both curricula, the following terms and citations must be rendered identically, or in a deliberately and visibly compatible way, across both language packages.

Shared ElementMatthew Reference(s)Romans Reference(s)Required Consistency Rule
Son of David / seed of DavidMatthew 1:1; 9:27; 21:9 (title-address, ദാവീദിന്‍റെ പുത്രന്‍)Romans 1:3 (lineage-statement, ദാവീദിന്‍റെ വംശത്തില്‍)Keep the baseline’s existing grammatical distinction (lineage-phrase vs. title-phrase) exactly as recorded in 08_core_glossary.md; both must clearly point to the same Davidic-covenant doctrine.
Suffering Servant (Isaiah 42; 53)Matthew 8:17; 12:18-21; 20:28; 27:57-60Romans 10:16 (Isaiah 53:1); Romans 15:21 (Isaiah 52:15)Use one consistent Malayalam rendering family for “servant” (ദാസന്‍) and for the ransom/atonement vocabulary (മറുവില) across both curricula; do not let Matthew’s rendering imply a different atonement theology than Romans’.
Stone typology (Psalm 118:22; Isaiah 28:16; Isaiah 8:14)Matthew 21:42 (rejected stone)Romans 9:33; Romans 10:11 (stumbling stone / will not be put to shame)Both curricula must use the same Malayalam noun for “stone” (കല്ല്) and compatible verbs for “reject”/“stumble,” so a learner cross-referencing both recognizes the identical OT text underlying two NT applications.
Love your neighbor as yourself (Leviticus 19:18)Matthew 22:39Romans 13:9Render the quoted clause with identical Malayalam wording in both curricula (see baseline’s insistence on verbatim consistency for Romans 8:28/10:9-10 — this citation deserves the same treatment): “അയല്‍ക്കാരനെ നിന്നെപ്പോലെ തന്നേ സ്നേഹിക്കേണം” (or the Satyavedapustakam’s exact existing wording, to be confirmed against the published Malayalam Bible text and then locked in translation memory).
Righteousness (δικαιοσύνη / നീதി) — forensic vs. ethical senseMatthew 5:6, 10, 20; 6:33 (predominantly ethical/character sense)Romans 3:21-26; 4:1-25 (forensic, imputed sense)Same Malayalam word (നീതി) is correct in both, per baseline; every occurrence in both curricula’s translator notes must specify which sense is active, so the single Malayalam word is not read as monolithic across both Gospels’ and Epistles’ registers.
Abraham as father of faithMatthew 1:1-2; 3:9; 8:11 (patriarchal lineage and kingdom-table inclusion)Romans 4:1-25 (justification by faith exemplified in Abraham)Ensure Matthew’s Abraham references do not read as merely ethnic-lineage pride (which Matthew 3:9 explicitly warns against — “do not presume to say, we have Abraham as our father”) in a way that would contradict Romans 4’s faith-not-lineage argument; these two curricula reinforce, not compete with, each other on this point.
Kingdom given to a fruit-bearing people (Matthew 21:43) and Israel’s place in God’s planMatthew 21:33-43Romans 9–11 (Israel’s partial, temporary unfruitfulness; the Gentile “grafting in”; “all Israel will be saved”)Matthew 21:43 must be translated and footnoted so that it is read consistently with, not as a contradiction of, Romans 11:17-24’s olive-tree metaphor of ongoing hope for Israel; avoid any Malayalam phrasing implying permanent ethnic replacement.
Great Commission / obedience of faith among the nationsMatthew 28:19 (ജനതകള്‍, maximal “all peoples” sense)Romans 1:5; 16:26 (ὑπακοὴ πίστεως … ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν / വിശ്വാസത്തിന്‍റെ അനുസരണം … സകല ജനതകളിലും)Use the baseline’s exact ജനതകള്‍ (never ജാതികള്‍) in both curricula; the Great Commission’s മാthēteusate (“make disciples”) and Romans’ “obedience of faith” are two facets of a single missionary theology and should be cross-referenced in Phase 2 teaching notes.
God/Father language in prayerMatthew 6:9 (“Our Father in heaven”)Romans 8:15 (“Abba! Father!”)Both use the baseline’s Critical പിതാവ്; Matthew 6:9’s corporate/liturgical register and Romans 8:15’s intimate/filial register are complementary, not competing — translator notes may cross-reference both for a fuller picture of Fatherhood doctrine.
Lordship confessionMatthew 22:44 (David’s Lord, Psalm 110:1); Matthew 28:18 (all authority given)Romans 10:9 (“Jesus is Lord” = യേശു കര്‍ത്താവാകുന്നു)All three passages reuse the baseline’s Critical കര്‍ത്താവ്; render with identical exclusivity and supremacy of force in every instance, per the baseline’s zero-qualification rule for Romans 10:9.

General rule for all shared quotations: when a segment in the Matthew curriculum contains an OT quotation that also appears (in whole or in part) in the Romans curriculum, the Phase 2 translation workflow must retrieve the existing Romans-curriculum rendering of that quotation from translation memory before producing a new Matthew rendering, and reconcile any wording differences explicitly rather than translating independently from the Greek/Hebrew a second time. This prevents two silently divergent Malayalam renderings of the same underlying OT text from entering the combined translation memory.
