Core Glossary
08 Core Glossary — Ephesians
English → Malayalam | New Terms + Baseline Cross-Reference
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md across the whole book of Ephesians. It has two parts:
- Part A lists terms already established in the baseline Romans
translation_memory.jsonthat recur in Ephesians. These renderings are reused EXACTLY, with no alteration, per pipeline rule; this table exists for cross-reference and chapter-location tracking only. - Part B lists NEW terms, not present in the baseline, first required by Ephesians. These are proposed for addition to
translation_memory.jsonandbible_term_registry.jsonin the Phase 1 artifacts that follow this step.

Cross-Reference Note on Chapters Reviewed Without New Terms
Every chapter of Ephesians (1–6) introduces new load-bearing theological vocabulary; there is no chapter in this book that reuses baseline/Ephesians-chapter-1 vocabulary exclusively without contributing new terms. All six chapters are therefore represented in Part B above, in addition to their reuse of Part A baseline terms. This full-book coverage statement satisfies the PRD Phase 1 mandate that every chapter be explicitly accounted for, whether by new-term contribution (all six chapters here) or by an explicit “no new vocabulary” note (not applicable to any chapter of this particular book).
This glossary feeds the Phase 1 doctrine risk registry and translation memory update artifacts for Ephesians, to be produced in subsequent Phase 1 steps.

Transliteration: munniyamanam

Transliteration: vishudha mandiram
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: അമ്പലം
Original: ναὸς ἅγιος
Category: Church
New term for Ephesians. NEVER അമ്പലം (Hindu temple), extending baseline’s existing forbidden-substitution logic for ‘church’ with even greater force since ναός specifically denotes a sanctuary/dwelling-place image. Must convey God’s personal, Spirit-indwelt presence among his gathered people, not a shrine housing an idol. Occurs at Ephesians 2:21.

Head Household

Transliteration: shirassu
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: κεφαλή

High Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: കൃപ
Transliteration: krupa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: പുണ്യം
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Mystery
Approved rendering: മർമ്മം
Transliteration: marmam
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: രഹസ്യം
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery
New term for Ephesians. മർമ്മം also denotes esoteric/vital-point knowledge in Kerala martial arts (കളരിപ്പയറ്റ്) and folk-occult tradition (മർമ്മ വിദ്യ); must always be paired with ‘openly disclosed/revealed’ language (‘വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയ മർമ്മം’), never left as an unqualified noun implying privileged secret knowledge reserved for initiates. Occurs at Ephesians 1:9, 3:3-9, 6:19.
Sealed
Approved rendering: മുദ്രയിട്ടു
Transliteration: mudrayittu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace
Original: σφραγίζω
Category: God
New term for Ephesians. Verb form chosen over bare noun (മുദ്ര) specifically to keep the Holy Spirit as active grammatical agent, reducing the risk of a ritual-hand-gesture (Hindu mudra) or bureaucratic-stamp reading. Occurs at Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30.
Head Kephale
Approved rendering: ശിരസ്സ്
Transliteration: shirassu
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: തലവൻ
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church
New term for Ephesians. Must retain the full range — life-giving source AND supreme authority — not reduced to bare hierarchical rank (തലവൻ). Occurs at Ephesians 1:22, 4:15; foundational for the more sensitive household usage at 5:23 (see ‘head_household’).
Fullness
Approved rendering: പൂർണ്ണത
Transliteration: poornnatha
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Church
New term for Ephesians. Also used in popular Malayalam Advaita Vedanta exposition for Brahman’s all-pervading completeness; must be taught as Christ’s personal, relational filling of his specific church, not an impersonal monistic divine essence. Occurs at Ephesians 1:23, 3:19, 4:13.
Dividing Wall
Approved rendering: മദ്ധ്യമതിൽ / വേർതിരിവിന്റെ മതിൽ
Transliteration: madhyamathil / verthirivinte mathil
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: τὸ μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ
Category: Church
New term for Ephesians. Carries unusual concrete force in Kerala, where some historic churches maintained literal partitions or separate seating reflecting caste distinctions between Syrian-Christian and Dalit-convert communities; must be taught as a direct, applicable image, not a purely ancient-historical metaphor. Occurs at Ephesians 2:14.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: അനുരഞ്ജനം
Transliteration: anuranjanam
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity

Transliteration: oru puthiya manushyan
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: പുതിയ ജനത
Original: εἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Church
New term for Ephesians. Must be taught as identity-transforming — a genuinely new corporate humanity, not a mere coalition of old categories — directly applicable to Kerala’s own internal caste-heritage distinctions within the church. Never shorten to ‘പുതിയ ജനത’ (new people-group), which loses the identity-transformation sense. Occurs at Ephesians 2:15.
Fellow Heirs
Approved rendering: സഹാവകാശികൾ, ശരീരത്തിൽ പങ്കാളികൾ, വാഗ്ദത്തത്തിൽ പങ്കാളികൾ

Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed

Transliteration: suvishekan, idayan, upadeshtavu
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: ഗുരു (for teacher)
Original: εὐαγγελιστής, ποιμήν, διδάσκαλος
Category: Ministry
New term for Ephesians. NEVER ഗുരു for ‘teacher’ — extends baseline’s existing apostle/ഗുരു prohibition identically; ഗുരു would suggest a Hindu-style personal-devotee guru relationship rather than a Christ-appointed church office exercised under Christ’s headship. Occurs at Ephesians 4:11.
Old New Man
Approved rendering: പഴയ മനുഷ്യൻ / പുതിയ മനുഷ്യൻ
Transliteration: pazhaya manushyan / puthiya manushyan

Slave Master
Approved rendering: ദാസൻ / യജമാനൻ
Transliteration: dasan / yajamanan
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: അടിമ
Original: δοῦλος / κύριος
Category: Household
New term for Ephesians. NEVER അടിമ (modern chattel-slavery-coded term). Sensitive given Kerala’s caste-linked bonded-labor history; must be taught with the no-partiality clause (6:9) as the interpretive key, describing an ancient household-economic structure, not modern chattel slavery or any caste-based labor hierarchy. κύριος here is the everyday ‘master’ sense, distinct from its Critical-risk Christological sense (see ‘lord’). Armor Pieces
Approved rendering:
