Core Glossary

08 Core Glossary — Jude (English → Malayalam)

This glossary covers every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning the entire book of Jude (1:1–25). Terms already present in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked REUSE and carry their baseline rendering and risk tier forward unchanged, per the hard rule that the baseline is the language authority. New terms unique to Jude’s vocabulary are marked NEW and are proposed for addition to translation memory before Phase 2 translation begins.

Part A — Terms Reused Exactly from Baseline Romans Translation Memory

English TermGreek (Translit.)MalayalamRisk (Baseline)Doctrine Link in JudeNotes for Jude Usage
Graceχάρις (charis)കൃപCritical*Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers*Elevated from baseline High to Critical for this curriculum: Jude 1:4 is the letter’s central charge — false teachers pervert grace into license for sin. Escalation to human theologian review required at every occurrence of grace in Jude.
Faithπίστις (pistis)വിശ്വാസംMedium/HighContending for the Faith Once Deliveredv. 3 and v. 20 use the objective sense (“the faith,” a body of doctrine) alongside the baseline’s subjective-trust sense; both must be recognized in context.
Saintsἅγιοι (hagioi)വിശുദ്ധര്‍HighContending for the Faith Once DeliveredSame inverted-risk caution as baseline: v. 3’s “saints” is every believer holding the one deposit of faith, not a canonized elite.
Salvationσωτηρία (sōtēria)രക്ഷHighContending for the Faith Once Deliveredv. 3’s “common salvation” — the shared, singular gospel all believers hold together.
Lordκύριος (kyrios)കര്‍ത്താവ്CriticalJudgment on Ungodly False Teachers; DoxologyOccurs repeatedly (vv. 4, 5, 9, 14, 17, 21, 25); exclusive, supreme Lordship must be preserved at every occurrence.
Lordship of Christκυριότης (kyriotēs)കര്‍ത്തൃത്വംCriticalJudgment on Ungodly False Teachersv. 8: false teachers “reject lordship” — direct assault on this baseline doctrine.

ChristΧριστός (Christos)ക്രിസ്തുCriticalthroughoutStandard form; no deviation.
Godθεός (theos)ദൈവംMedium/CriticalDoxology and God’s Preserving Powerv. 25’s “only God, our Savior” is an exclusive-monotheism confession; escalate to Critical in that verse.
Holy Spiritπνεῦμα ἅγιον (pneuma hagion)പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്CriticalKept by God and Presented Blamelessv. 20, explicit Third Person; contrast with v. 19’s ambiguous bare πνεῦμα (see Part B).

Part B — New Terms Introduced by Jude (Proposed Translation Memory Additions)

English TermGreek (Translit.)MalayalamTransliterationDoctrine RiskDoctrine LinkAlternatives RejectedRationale / Notes
Servant (of Christ)δοῦλος (doulos)ദാസന്‍dasanMediumContending for the FaithOT honorific “servant of the LORD” sense; risk of being heard through Kerala’s caste-servitude history rather than the honorific biblical sense.
Belovedἀγαπητός / ἠγαπημένος (agapētos / ēgapēmenos)പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട / പ്രിയരേpriyappetta / priyareLowthroughout (direct address)Recurs as structural address marker (vv. 3, 17, 20).
Love (ἀγάπη)ἀγάπη (agapē)സ്നേഹംsnehamMediumMercy and Rescue of the WaveringMalayalam’s all-purpose love word; doctrinal ἀγάπη sense must be anchored explicitly to God’s covenantal, self-giving love where the text requires it.
Mercyἔλεος (eleos)കരുണkarunaMediumMercy and Rescue of the WaveringAlso the central Buddhist compassion-virtue term; must stay anchored to God’s/Christ’s specific covenantal mercy toward sinners, not generic universal compassion.
Kept / Keep (τηρέω word-family)τηρέω (tēreō) — τετηρημένοις, τετήρηκεν, τετήρηται, τηρήσατε, φυλάξαιകാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ട / കാത്തുകൊള്ളുക (verb family)kaathusookshikkappetta / kaathukollukaHighKept by God and Presented BlamelessSTRUCTURAL KEYWORD: occurs at vv. 1, 6, 13, 21, 24 in both positive (God keeps believers) and negative (angels not kept; darkness reserved) senses. The SAME Malayalam verb root must be used at every occurrence to preserve Jude’s deliberate wordplay; this is the single highest-priority consistency requirement in the whole book.
Contend (for the faith)ἐπαγωνίζομαι (epagōnizomai)വിശ്വാസത്തിനുവേണ്ടി പോരാടുകvishwasathinuvendi poradakaHighContending for the Faith Once DeliveredRisk of being heard as endorsing communal/inter-religious conflict in Kerala’s religiously plural context; must be taught as doctrinal/apologetic contention, never physical or communal struggle.
Once for all deliveredἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ (hapax paradotheisē)ഒരിക്കലായി ഭരമേല്‍പിക്കപ്പെട്ടorikkalayi bharamelpikkappettaHighContending for the Faith Once Deliveredക്രമേണ വളര്‍ന്നു വന്ന പഠനം (“gradually developed teaching,” rejected)Must convey a fixed, closed, unrepeatable deposit of doctrine, not an evolving tradition.
Ungodly / Ungodlinessἀσεβής / ἀσέβεια (asebēs / asebeia)ഭക്തിഹീനര്‍ / ഭക്തിഹീനതbhakthiheenar / bhakthiheenathaHighJudgment on Ungodly False TeachersEstablished Malayalam Bible usage negates ഭക്തി (bhakti); readers must understand the lack in view as failure to revere the one true God through Christ, not generic absence of religious sentiment toward any deity. Occurs with emphatic fourfold repetition in v. 15.
Sensuality / Licentiousnessἀσέλγεια (aselgeia)ദുർന്നടപ്പ്durnadappuMediumJudgment on Ungodly False Teachersകാമവൃത്തി (rejected — see next entry)Unrestrained self-indulgent immorality; used for grace-abuse in v. 4.
Lustful desireἐπιθυμία (epithymia)മോഹംmohamHighJudgment on Ungodly False Teachersകാമം (REJECTED)NEVER render with കാമം — the common Malayalam word for desire/lust strongly associated with Kāma, the Hindu deity of desire. Occurs vv. 16, 18.
Master (absolute owner-ruler)δεσπότης (despotēs)നാഥന്‍nadhanHighJudgment on Ungodly False Teachersയജമാനന്‍ (REJECTED)REJECT യജമാനന്‍ — carries feudal landlord/caste-tenant connotations from Kerala’s agrarian history. നാഥന്‍ conveys rightful sovereign mastery with warmer devotional resonance.
Deny (Christ’s authority)ἀρνέομαι (arneomai)നിഷേധിക്കുന്നുnishedhikkunnuMediumJudgment on Ungodly False TeachersActive repudiation, not mere neglect.
Angelἄγγελος (angelos)ദൂതന്‍ / ദൂതന്‍മാര്‍dhoothan / dhoothanmarMediumOT Warnings as Types (Angels)മലക്ക് (rejected for this register)മലക്ക് is the Arabic-derived term used in Malayalam Muslim usage; ദൂതന്‍ is the established, ecumenically Christian term.
Eternal fireπυρὸς αἰωνίου (pyros aiōniou)നിത്യാഗ്നിnithyagniHighOT Warnings as Types (Sodom)ശുദ്ധീകരണാഗ്നി (“purifying fire,” rejected)Must be final, unending judgment — distinct from Kerala Catholic/Orthodox purgatory doctrine’s temporary purificatory fire; requires explicit teacher clarification.
Sexual immoralityἐκπορνεύω / πορνεία (ekporneuō / porneia)പരസംഗംparansangamMediumOT Warnings as Types (Sodom)Established Malayalam Bible term; serious covenant-breaking sin, not mere social impropriety.
Wandering starsἀστέρες πλανῆται (asteres planētai)അലഞ്ഞുനടക്കുന്ന നക്ഷത്രങ്ങള്‍alanjunadakkunna nakshathrangalHighJudgment on Ungodly False TeachersRisk of being read through Kerala’s widespread Jyothisham (astrology) tradition; must be taught strictly as a moral-instability metaphor, with zero astrological content.
Archangel MichaelΜιχαὴλ ὁ ἀρχάγγελος (Michaēl ho archangelos)മുഖ്യദൂതനായ മീഖായേല്‍mukhyadoothanaya MeekhayelLowOT Warnings as Types (Angels)Established compound; low ambiguity.

Rebukeἐπιτιμάω (epitimaō)ശാസിക്കshaasikkaMediumOT Warnings as Types (Angels)Michael’s deferral to the Lord’s authority contrasts with the false teachers’ presumption (v. 8).
Way of Cain / Error of Balaam / Rebellion of Korahὁδὸς Κάϊν / πλάνη Βαλαάμ / ἀντιλογία Κόρεകയീന്‍റെ വഴി / ബാലാമിന്‍റെ ദുര്‍മാര്‍ഗ്ഗം / കോരഹിന്‍റെ മത്സരംKayinte vazhi / Balaaminte durmarggam / Korahinte mathsaramMediumOT Warnings as TypesThree sequential OT types (murderous jealousy/false worship; prophesying for profit; rebellion against divinely appointed authority); proper names follow established Malayalam OT Bible forms.
Love feastἀγάπη, pl. ἀγάπαι (agapē, agapai)പ്രിയസദ്യ / അഗാപ്പേ വിരുന്ന്priyasadya / agappe virunnuMediumChurch Fellowship (context)Distinguish from the Eucharist/Holy Communion proper for Catholic/Orthodox readers.

Prophesied (of Enoch, citing 1 Enoch)προεφήτευσεν (proephēteusen)പ്രവചിച്ചുpravachichuHighInspiration/Fulfillment of Prophecy (extended)Jude’s citation of non-canonical 1 Enoch material as true prophecy does not canonize that book; requires human theologian review wherever taught.
Last timeἐσχάτου χρόνου (eschatou chronou)അന്ത്യകാലംanthyakalamHighJudgment on Ungodly False TeachersMust be taught as one final, linear consummation of history, not a phase within a repeating Kali Yuga-style cosmic cycle.
Scoffersἐμπαῖκται (empaiktai)പരിഹാസികള്‍parihasikalLowJudgment on Ungodly False TeachersCommon, low-ambiguity Malayalam term.
Worldly / Soulish (not spiritual)ψυχικοί (psychikoi)ജഡികര്‍jadikarHighJudgment on Ungodly False Teachersപ്രാകൃതര്‍ (REJECTED)REJECT പ്രാകൃതര്‍ — evokes the Samkhya philosophical category of prakriti (unconscious material nature); ജഡികര്‍ safely conveys the soul-vs.-Spirit contrast without this collision.
Devoid of the Spiritπνεῦμα μὴ ἔχοντες (pneuma mē echontes)ആത്മാവില്ലാത്തവര്‍aathmaavillathavarHighKept by God and Presented Blameless (contrast)Ambiguous in Greek between human spirit and Holy Spirit; must be visibly related to, yet distinguishable from, the baseline’s Critical-risk പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്.
Build up (in the faith)ἐποικοδομέω (epoikodomeō)പണിതുയര്‍ത്തുകpanithuyarthukaLowKept by God and Presented BlamelessArchitectural metaphor; low collision risk.
Wavering / Doubtingδιακρίνομαι (diakrinomai)സംശയിക്കുന്നവര്‍samshayikkunnavarHighMercy and Rescue of the WaveringCentral to the doctrine’s namesake passage (vv. 22–23); must be distinguished from tolerance of the unrepentant false teachers described elsewhere.
Snatch (from the fire)ἁρπάζω (harpazō)പിടിച്ചുവലിക്കുകpidichuvalikkukaHighMercy and Rescue of the WaveringUrgent rescue-imagery; must not imply the rescued party self-achieves rescue.
Blameless / Unblemishedἄμωμος (amōmos)കളങ്കമില്ലാത്തവരായിkalankamillathavarayiHighKept by God and Presented BlamelessSacrificial-purity language; risk of unconscious assimilation to Kerala’s historic caste-purity/pollution concepts (തീണ്ടല്‍/അയിത്തം). Must be explicitly taught as a relational/moral status granted through Christ’s finished work, never ritual or caste purity.
Saviorσωτήρ (sōtēr)രക്ഷിതാവ്rakshithavuCriticalDoxology and God’s Preserving PowerBuilt on the baseline’s രക്ഷ root; v. 25’s ഏക (“only”) exclusivity marker must never be softened — an exclusive-monotheism confession.
Majestyμεγαλωσύνη (megalōsynē)മഹാമഹത്വം / പ്രതാപംmahaamahathvam / prathapamMediumDoxology and God’s Preserving PowerPart of the fourfold doxological climax (v. 25).

Authorityἐξουσία (exousia)അധികാരംadhikaramMediumDoxology and God’s Preserving PowerPart of the fourfold doxological climax.
Eternal lifeζωὴν αἰώνιον (zōēn aiōnion)നിത്യജീവന്‍nithyajeevanHighKept by God and Presented Blamelessമോക്ഷം, മുക്തി (REJECTED, same as baseline “salvation”)Established, settled Malayalam term; same AI-drift caution as baseline’s രക്ഷ entry applies — never a release from a cycle of rebirth.
All ages / Forever (linear eternity)πάντας τοὺς αἰῶνας (pantas tous aiōnas)എന്നേക്കുംennekkumMediumDoxology and God’s Preserving PowerMust convey a single linear eternity, not a repeating cyclical-ages cosmology.

Risk Summary for Jude-Specific New Terms

Risk TierCountReview Routing
Critical1 (Savior, in its exclusivity claim)Human theologian
High15Human theologian
Medium12Native speaker review
Low8Automated review

Cross-reference note: All terms in Part A must be checked against translation_memory.json before every Phase 2 segment is processed, per the baseline’s mandatory enforcement rule. All terms in Part B are proposed as new entries to be added to translation memory (with version increment) before Phase 2 translation of Jude begins, per the baseline’s “new term encountered” protocol in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Critical Risk Terms

Grace

Approved rendering: കൃപ
Transliteration: krupa
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: പുണ്യം
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED from baseline High to Critical for this curriculum: Jude 1:4 is the letter’s central charge — false teachers pervert grace into license for sensuality (ദുർന്നടപ്പ്). Beyond the baseline’s bhakti-merit caution, every occurrence in Jude must preserve the sharp moral contrast of grace being deliberately misused as license, not earned by devotion, and must be escalated for human theologian review.

Salvation

Approved rendering: രക്ഷ
Transliteration: raksha
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Rejected alternatives: മോക്ഷം, മുക്തി
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED from baseline High to Critical for this curriculum. Jude 1:3’s ‘common/shared salvation’ (κοινῆς σωτηρίας) reinforces one single, unified deposit of salvation held by all believers together, raising the stakes of the baseline’s already-documented AI-drift risk toward മോക്ഷം/മുക്തി.

Lord

Approved rendering: കര്‍ത്താവ്
Transliteration: karthavu
Doctrine: Denial of Christ’s Lordship and Authority
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Critical). Occurs repeatedly in Jude (vv. 4, 5, 9, 14, 17, 21, 25); exclusive, supreme Lordship must be preserved at every single occurrence without qualification, including the false teachers’ denial of it in v.4.

Messiah

Approved rendering: ക്രിസ്തു
Transliteration: kristu
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Critical). Occurs throughout Jude (v.1, 4, 17, 21, 25) always paired with യേശു; no deviation permitted.

Jesus

Approved rendering: യേശു
Transliteration: yeshu
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Critical). Standard form throughout Jude; no deviation.

God

Approved rendering: ദൈവം
Transliteration: daivam
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Rejected alternatives: ഭഗവാന്‍
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED from baseline Medium to Critical for Jude 1:25 specifically, where ‘the only God, our Savior’ (ഏക രക്ഷിതാവായ ദൈവം) is an exclusive-monotheism confession; the exclusivity marker ഏക must never be softened. Elsewhere in Jude (1:1) retains the baseline’s lower-friction Medium-adjacent usage.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്
Transliteration: parishudhathmavu
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Rejected alternatives: ബ്രഹ്മം, പരമാത്മാവ്
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Critical). Jude 1:20’s ‘praying in the Holy Spirit’ is the explicit, unambiguous Third Person, deliberately contrasted with v.19’s ambiguous bare πνεῦμα (see devoid_of_spirit entry below); never ബ്രഹ്മം or പരമാത്മാവ്.

Prophesied Enoch

Approved rendering: പ്രവചിച്ചു
Transliteration: pravachichu
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: προεφήτευσεν
Category: Scripture

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:14, Enoch’s prophecy paralleling material in the non-canonical Jewish text 1 Enoch. The single most theologically delicate point in the book: teacher/translator notes MUST clarify that Jude’s citation of this material as true prophetic content, under the Spirit’s inspired guidance, does not thereby canonize the book of 1 Enoch as Scripture. Requires human theologian review at every occurrence without exception; do not add or remove content beyond the plain verb ‘prophesied’ in the base translation itself.

Savior

Approved rendering: രക്ഷിതാവ്
Transliteration: rakshithavu
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: σωτήρ
Category: God

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:25, built on the baseline’s രക്ഷ root, applied to God the Father in the closing doxology’s exclusive-monotheism confession. The exclusivity marker ഏക (‘only, sole’) accompanying this term must never be softened; parallel in doctrinal weight to the baseline’s exclusive-Lordship caution.

Lordship Of Christ

Approved rendering: കര്‍ത്തൃത്വം
Transliteration: karthruthvam
Doctrine: Denial of Christ’s Lordship and Authority
Original: κυριότης
Category: Christology

NEW for Jude (κυριότης, distinct from κύριος itself). Jude 1:8: false teachers ‘reject lordship/authority’ — a direct assault on Christ’s supreme lordship, escalated to Critical to mirror the baseline’s lordship_of_christ doctrine caution from the Romans package. Shares its root with കര്‍ത്താവ് (Lord) but names the abstract quality of lordship being rejected.

High Risk Terms

Faith

Approved rendering: വിശ്വാസം
Transliteration: vishwasam
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Rejected alternatives: ഭക്തി
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED from baseline Medium to High for Jude. Jude 1:3 and 1:20 activate an additional objective sense — ‘the faith’ as the fixed body of apostolic doctrine — alongside the baseline’s subjective personal-trust sense; both senses are live in this letter and must be recognized in context. Never ഭക്തി.

Saints

Approved rendering: വിശുദ്ധര്‍
Transliteration: vishudhar
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (High). Same inverted-risk caution as baseline applies in Jude 1:3: every ordinary believer holding the one deposit of faith is addressed, not a canonization-flavored elite as Kerala’s Catholic/Orthodox veneration tradition might suggest.

Holy

Approved rendering: പരിശുദ്ധ
Transliteration: parishudha
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Rejected alternatives: ശുദ്ധം
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (High). Jude 1:20 uses the superlative form (‘your most holy faith’); the superlative force echoing v.3’s ‘once for all delivered’ faith must not be flattened into a generic ‘your holy religion.‘

Called

Approved rendering: വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ട
Transliteration: vilikkappetta
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Keeping
Original: κλητός
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED to High for Jude 1:1’s effectual, salvific calling sense, paired immediately with the letter’s structural ‘kept’ keyword (see kept_preserved). Must be distinguished from fatalistic Malayalam idioms such as തലയെഴുത്ത്.

Glory

Approved rendering: മഹത്വം
Transliteration: mahatvam
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED to High for Jude: occurs both in v.8 (plural, angelic/celestial dignities — a distinct sense from God’s own glory, contrasted with Michael’s restraint in v.9) and in vv.24-25 (God’s own radiant glory in the doxology). Teacher notes must distinguish the two referents sharing this one Malayalam word.

Sin

Approved rendering: പാപം
Transliteration: papam
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED to High for Jude 1:15’s ‘ungodly sinners’ within the emphatic fourfold ἀσεβ- repetition context.

Kept Preserved

Approved rendering: കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ട / കാത്തുകൊള്ളുക
Transliteration: kaathusookshikkappetta / kaathukolluka
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Original: τηρέω (τετηρημένοις, τετήρηκεν, τετήρηται, τηρήσατε, φυλάξαι)
Category: Perseverance

NEW for Jude. STRUCTURAL KEYWORD (τηρέω word-family: τετηρημένοις, τετήρηκεν, τετήρηται, τηρήσατε; near-synonym φυλάξαι at v.24) occurring at vv. 1, 6, 13, 21, 24 in both a positive sense (God keeps believers safe) and a punitive sense (fallen angels kept in custody; darkness reserved for judgment). The SAME Malayalam verb root MUST be used at every occurrence — this is the single highest-priority translation-consistency requirement in the entire book, structurally comparable in weight to the baseline’s Romans 1:16-17/8:28/10:9-10 consistency rules.

Contend For The Faith

Approved rendering: വിശ്വാസത്തിനുവേണ്ടി പോരാടുക
Transliteration: vishwasathinuvendi poradaka
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Original: ἐπαγωνίζομαι
Category: Faith

NEW for Jude. The letter’s thesis verb (v.3). Kerala’s religious plurality (large Hindu, Muslim, and multi-denominational Christian populations) makes ‘fighting for the faith’ language risk being heard as endorsing communal or inter-religious conflict, a painful historical association in South Asia. Must always be taught as doctrinal defense through sound teaching, reasoned apologetics, and holy living — never physical or communal struggle.

Once For All Delivered

Approved rendering: ഒരിക്കലായി ഭരമേല്‍പിക്കപ്പെട്ട
Transliteration: orikkalayi bharamelpikkappetta
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Rejected alternatives: ക്രമേണ വളര്‍ന്നു വന്ന പഠനം
Original: ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ
Category: Faith

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:3. Must convey a fixed, closed, unrepeatable deposit of apostolic doctrine, resisting any softening toward an evolving-tradition framing (a live category in some South Asian devotional/mystical religious thought, and in Malayalam’s own ordinary word for ‘tradition,’ പാരമ്പര്യം, which implies organic accretion). ഒരിക്കലായി is an obligatory, non-omissible modifier.

Ungodly

Approved rendering: ഭക്തിഹീനര്‍ / ഭക്തിഹീനത
Transliteration: bhakthiheenar / bhakthiheenatha
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἀσεβής / ἀσέβεια
Category: Sin

NEW for Jude. Established Malayalam Bible tradition negates ഭക്തി, Kerala’s primary word for Hindu devotional reverence. Readers must understand the lack in view as failure to revere and submit to the one true God through Christ specifically, not a generic absence of religious sentiment toward any deity. Occurs with emphatic fourfold repetition in v.15 (vv. 4, 8, 10, 15 [x4], 16, 18).

Lustful Desire

Approved rendering: മോഹം
Transliteration: moham
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: കാമം
Original: ἐπιθυμία
Category: Sin

NEW for Jude. Occurs at vv. 16, 18. NEVER render with കാമം, the common Malayalam word for desire/lust strongly associated with Kāma, the Hindu deity of desire — a single wrong syllable choice would import an entire competing mythological frame. മോഹം (disordered desire) is the required, safer term.

Master Despotes

Approved rendering: നാഥന്‍
Transliteration: nadhan
Doctrine: Denial of Christ’s Lordship and Authority
Rejected alternatives: യജമാനന്‍
Original: δεσπότης
Category: Christology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:4, paired with κύριος to stress Christ’s total, rightful ownership-authority denied by the false teachers. REJECT യജമാനന്‍, which carries strong feudal landlord/caste-tenant connotations from Kerala’s agrarian and caste history and risks reframing Christ’s lordship as oppressive social overlordship. നാഥന്‍ conveys rightful sovereign mastery with warmer devotional-hymnic resonance.

Eternal Fire

Approved rendering: നിത്യാഗ്നി
Transliteration: nithyagni
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Rejected alternatives: ശുദ്ധീകരണാഗ്നി
Original: πυρὸς αἰωνίου
Category: Eschatology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:7, the third OT warning-type (Sodom and Gomorrah). Must convey permanent, unending, final judgment. Kerala’s strong Catholic/Orthodox tradition includes a developed doctrine of purgatory (temporary post-mortem purification); translator notes must clarify this is final judgment on the unrepentant, distinct from any temporary purgatorial framework, to avoid doctrinal blurring for readers from those traditions.

Wandering Stars

Approved rendering: അലഞ്ഞുനടക്കുന്ന നക്ഷത്രങ്ങള്‍
Transliteration: alanjunadakkunna nakshathrangal
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἀστέρες πλανῆται
Category: Eschatology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:13, part of the false teachers’ nature-metaphor characterization. Kerala’s widespread Jyothisham (astrology/horoscope) tradition risks this being read through an astrological lens rather than as a moral-instability metaphor. Translator/teacher notes must explicitly strip all astrological content, retaining the literal image while blocking that reading.

Holy Ones Myriads

Approved rendering: ആയിരമായിരം വിശുദ്ധദൂതന്‍മാര്‍
Transliteration: aayiramaayiram vishudhadhoothanmar
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἁγίαις μυριάσιν
Category: Eschatology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:14, quoted from the Enoch tradition, describing the innumerable holy angelic host accompanying the Lord’s final judgment-coming. Given the baseline’s documented inverted risk on വിശുദ്ധര്‍ (narrow, canonization-flavored reading), this angelic referent must be visibly distinguished from the human-believer ‘saints’ sense of v.3 via this disambiguating compound; never collapse the two senses.

Last Time

Approved rendering: അന്ത്യകാലം
Transliteration: anthyakalam
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἐσχάτου χρόνου
Category: Eschatology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:18. Kerala’s broader cultural context includes the Hindu concept of a cyclical Kali Yuga (‘age of decline’ within a repeating cosmic cycle). Must be taught and rendered as one final, linear, unrepeated consummation of history at Christ’s return, not a recurring phase within an endlessly repeating cycle of ages — a risk directly parallel in weight to the baseline’s resurrection-vs.-reincarnation caution.

Worldly Soulish

Approved rendering: ജഡികര്‍
Transliteration: jadikar
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: പ്രാകൃതര്‍
Original: ψυχικοί
Category: Anthropology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:19 (ψυχικοί). REJECT പ്രാകൃതര്‍, which risks evoking the Samkhya philosophical category of prakriti (unconscious material nature) from classical Hindu philosophy, a distinct technical category unrelated to the soul-vs.-Spirit contrast Jude intends. ജഡികര്‍ (rooted in ജഡം, an established NT flesh/matter category) safely conveys the intended contrast.

Devoid Of Spirit

Approved rendering: ആത്മാവില്ലാത്തവര്‍
Transliteration: aathmaavillathavar
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: πνεῦμα μὴ ἔχοντες
Category: God

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:19. The Greek πνεῦμα here is ambiguous between ‘human spirit’ and ‘[Holy] Spirit’; context (contrasted with v.20’s explicit πνεῦμα ἅγιον) favors the Holy Spirit’s regenerating presence. Must not be confused with, nor obscure, the Critical-risk term പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് used one verse later; the two must remain visibly related but distinguishable in translator/teacher commentary.

Wavering Doubting

Approved rendering: സംശയിക്കുന്നവര്‍
Transliteration: samshayikkunnavar
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: διακρίνομαι
Category: Salvation

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:22, the doctrine’s namesake passage. Central to ‘Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering’; must be clearly distinguished from tolerance of the unrepentant false teachers described throughout the rest of the letter — teacher notes should make this distinction explicit.

Snatch From Fire

Approved rendering: പിടിച്ചുവലിക്കുക
Transliteration: pidichuvalikkuka
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: ἁρπάζω
Category: Salvation

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:23. Vivid, urgent rescue-imagery echoing the eternal-fire judgment of v.7; must be framed as an act performed by believers on behalf of others under God’s mercy, never implying the rescued party self-achieves their own deliverance.

Blameless Unblemished

Approved rendering: കളങ്കമില്ലാത്തവരായി
Transliteration: kalankamillathavarayi
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Original: ἄμωμος
Category: Sanctification

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:24, sacrificial-purity language applied to believers’ final standing before God’s glory. Kerala’s own social history includes deeply entrenched historical concepts of ritual purity and pollution tied to caste (e.g. തീണ്ടല്‍/അയിത്തം, untouchability practices). Translator and teacher notes must make explicit that this blameless standing is relational and moral, granted through Christ’s finished work, never a ritual-purity or caste-purity status achieved by birth, ritual observance, or social class.

Eternal Life

Approved rendering: നിത്യജീവന്‍
Transliteration: nithyajeevan
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Rejected alternatives: മോക്ഷം, മുക്തി
Original: ζωὴν αἰώνιον
Category: Salvation

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:21, the goal toward which God’s mercy in Christ leads believers. Established, long-settled Malayalam Christian vocabulary, but the same AI-drift caution the baseline documents for ‘salvation’ applies with equal force: this is unending resurrected life in fellowship with God, never a release from an ongoing cycle of rebirth.

Medium Risk Terms

Apostle

Approved rendering: അപ്പോസ്തലന്‍
Transliteration: appostalan
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: ഗുരു
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED from baseline Low to Medium for Jude, since v.17’s reference to ‘the predictions of the apostles’ grounds the letter’s warning about scoffers in apostolic authority; never ഗുരു.

Israel

Approved rendering: യിസ്രായേല്‍
Transliteration: yisrayel
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)

Inherited from Romans package. ESCALATED from baseline Low to Medium for Jude 1:5, where Israel is the implicit (unnamed) referent of ‘a people out of the land of Egypt’ later ‘destroyed… for unbelief’ — the first of the letter’s three OT warning-types. Teacher notes must supply the Exodus/wilderness background explicitly since the base text does not name Israel directly.

Servant Of Christ

Approved rendering: ദാസന്‍
Transliteration: dasan
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Original: δοῦλος
Category: Church

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:1’s self-designation, an OT honorific claim of total submission to Christ (cf. Moses, David as ‘servant of the LORD’), not chattel servitude. Kerala’s own agrarian and caste history includes hereditary servitude classes; translator notes must anchor this to the biblical honorific tradition, not social-caste servitude.

Agape Love

Approved rendering: സ്നേഹം
Transliteration: sneham
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Sanctification

NEW for Jude. Malayalam’s all-purpose love word (romantic, familial, platonic). Where the doctrinal ἀγάπη sense is active (v.2, v.12’s love feasts, v.21’s ‘love of God’), the rendering must be anchored explicitly to God’s covenantal, self-giving character and Christ’s example, since the bare word alone does not carry that specificity.

Mercy

Approved rendering: കരുണ
Transliteration: karuna
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation

NEW for Jude. Occurs at v.2 (greeting) and vv.21-23 (the doctrine’s namesake passage). Also the central Buddhist compassion-virtue term and a broad Malayalam secular-ethical term; every occurrence must remain anchored to God’s/Christ’s specific covenantal mercy toward sinners through the cross, not generic universal compassion.

Sensuality

Approved rendering: ദുർന്നടപ്പ്
Transliteration: durnadappu
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: കാമവൃത്തി
Original: ἀσέλγεια
Category: Sin

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:4, the object into which grace is perverted. Avoid any rendering built on the കാമ- root (associated with Kāma, the Hindu deity of desire); ദുർന്നടപ്പ് is a morally general term for unrestrained wrongful conduct.

Deny Christ

Approved rendering: നിഷേധിക്കുന്നു
Transliteration: nishedhikkunnu
Doctrine: Denial of Christ’s Lordship and Authority
Original: ἀρνέομαι
Category: Christology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:4. Must clearly convey active, willful repudiation of Christ’s authority, not mere neglect or ignorance.

Angel

Approved rendering: ദൂതന്‍ / ദൂതന്‍മാര്‍
Transliteration: dhoothan / dhoothanmar
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Rejected alternatives: മലക്ക്
Original: ἄγγελος
Category: Angelology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:6, the second OT warning-type (rebellious angels). REJECT മലക്ക്, the Arabic-derived term used in Malayalam Muslim (Mappila) usage; ദൂതന്‍/ദൂതന്‍മാര്‍ is the established, ecumenically Christian term and keeps the register unambiguous.

Sexual Immorality

Approved rendering: പരസംഗം
Transliteration: paransangam
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: ἐκπορνεύω / πορνεία
Category: Sin

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:7. Established Malayalam Bible term; must be understood as serious covenant-breaking sin against God, not merely social impropriety.

Rebuke

Approved rendering: ശാസിക്ക
Transliteration: shaasikka
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: ἐπιτιμάω
Category: Angelology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:9, ‘The Lord rebuke you’ (echoing Zechariah 3:2). Michael’s deferral of judgment to the Lord is the key contrast with the false teachers’ self-authorized presumption in v.8; teacher notes should make this explicit.

Way Of Cain

Approved rendering: കയീന്‍റെ വഴി
Transliteration: Kayinte vazhi
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: ὁδὸς Κάϊν
Category: Covenant

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:11, first of three sequential named OT types (murderous jealousy/false worship). Proper name uses established Malayalam OT Bible form (കയീന്‍); requires OT background explanation for full comprehension.

Error Of Balaam

Approved rendering: ബാലാമിന്‍റെ ദുര്‍മാര്‍ഗ്ഗം
Transliteration: Balaaminte durmarggam
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: πλάνη Βαλαάμ
Category: Covenant

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:11, second named OT type (prophesying/teaching for profit). Ties to v.16’s flattery-for-gain theme. Established proper name form ബാലാം used.

Rebellion Of Korah

Approved rendering: കോരഹിന്‍റെ മത്സരം
Transliteration: Korahinte mathsaram
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: ἀντιλογία Κόρε
Category: Covenant

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:11, third named OT type (rebellion against divinely appointed authority). Ties to the letter’s broader theme of rejecting rightful authority (v.8). Established proper name form കോരഹ്.

Love Feast

Approved rendering: പ്രിയസദ്യ / അഗാപ്പേ വിരുന്ന്
Transliteration: priyasadya / agappe virunnu
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἀγάπη, pl. ἀγάπαι
Category: Church

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:12, the early church’s communal fellowship meals, corrupted by the false teachers’ presence. Must be distinguished from the Eucharist/Holy Communion proper, since some Malayalam denominational traditions closely associate agape-meal language with sacramental practice. Use the paraphrase പ്രിയസദ്യ as primary rendering with അഗാപ്പേ വിരുന്ന് as an optional parenthetical gloss.

Majesty

Approved rendering: മഹാമഹത്വം / പ്രതാപം
Transliteration: mahaamahathvam / prathapam
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: μεγαλωσύνη
Category: God

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:25, part of the fourfold doxological acclamation (glory, majesty, dominion, authority). As part of this fixed set, must not be diluted into generic praise-language shared indistinctly with other Kerala religious communities’ devotional doxological vocabulary.

Dominion Might

Approved rendering: ആധിപത്യം
Transliteration: aadhipathyam
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: κράτος
Category: God

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:25, part of the fourfold doxological acclamation. Must convey exclusive divine sovereign power, not generic strength.

Authority

Approved rendering: അധികാരം
Transliteration: adhikaram
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: God

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:25, part of the fourfold doxological acclamation; also conceptually linked to κυριότης/authority rejected by the false teachers in v.8.

Forever Ages

Approved rendering: സകല കാലത്തിനും മുമ്പും ഇപ്പോഴും എന്നേക്കും
Transliteration: sakala kaalathinum mumpum ippozhum ennekkum
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: πρὸ παντὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος καὶ νῦν καὶ εἰς πάντας τοὺς αἰῶνας
Category: God

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:25’s closing ‘before all time, now, and forever.’ Must convey a single, linear eternity (past-present-future), not the cyclical repeating ‘ages’ concept found in some South Asian cosmologies, the same caution applying to v.18’s ‘last time.‘

Low Risk Terms

Peace

Approved rendering: സമാധാനം
Transliteration: samadhanam
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Low). Jude 1:2’s epistolary blessing, alongside mercy and love; established, low-ambiguity usage.

Prophet

Approved rendering: പ്രവാചകന്‍
Transliteration: pravachakan
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Rejected alternatives: ജ്യോത്സ്യന്‍

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Low). General prophetic-authority background term supporting the Enoch citation (see prophesied_enoch below); never ജ്യോത്സ്യന്‍ (astrologer).

Prophecy

Approved rendering: പ്രവചനം
Transliteration: pravachanam
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)

Inherited from Romans package, risk unchanged (Low). General term for God-inspired declaration; distinct from the specific, higher-risk case of Jude 1:14’s citation of Enoch (see prophesied_enoch).

Beloved

Approved rendering: പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട / പ്രിയരേ
Transliteration: priyappetta / priyare
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Original: ἀγαπητός / ἠγαπημένος
Category: Faith

NEW for Jude. Structural direct-address marker recurring at 1:1, 3, 17, 20, framing each major turn in the letter’s argument. Low doctrinal risk; consistency of address form across all four occurrences aids readers in tracking the letter’s structure.

Archangel Michael

Approved rendering: മുഖ്യദൂതനായ മീഖായേല്‍
Transliteration: mukhyadoothanaya Meekhayel
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: Μιχαὴλ ὁ ἀρχάγγελος
Category: Angelology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:9. Established compound term in Malayalam Christian usage; low ambiguity as the name/title itself, though the doctrinal contrast it sets up (Michael’s restraint vs. the false teachers’ presumption) is High-value teaching content.

Devil

Approved rendering: പിശാച്
Transliteration: pisachu
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: διάβολος
Category: Angelology

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:9. Established, unambiguous personal-adversary term across Malayalam Christian tradition, distinguishing a personal fallen being from any impersonal evil-principle.

Scoffers

Approved rendering: പരിഹാസികള്‍
Transliteration: parihasikal
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἐμπαῖκται
Category: Sin

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:18. Common, low-ambiguity Malayalam term for mockers who deride sound doctrine and godly living.

Build Up

Approved rendering: പണിതുയര്‍ത്തുക
Transliteration: panithuyarthuka
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Original: ἐποικοδομέω
Category: Sanctification

NEW for Jude. Jude 1:20. Architectural metaphor for edification in the faith; low collision risk in Malayalam.

Amen

Approved rendering: ആമേന്‍
Transliteration: aamen
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: ἀμήν
Category: Worship

NEW for Jude (not present in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json, though referenced in the baseline’s transliteration standards). Jude 1:25, closing liturgical affirmation. Established transliterated form used across all Malayalam Christian traditions; no deviation.

Moses

Approved rendering: മോശെ
Transliteration: moshe
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: Μωϋσῆς
Category: Covenant

NEW for Jude (not present in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json). Jude 1:9, the OT lawgiver whose body is disputed by Michael and the devil, alluding to extra-biblical Jewish tradition. Established Malayalam Bible proper-name form; low ambiguity for the name itself, though the surrounding doctrinal point (non-canonical source citation) is High/Critical (see prophesied_enoch).
