Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Matthew — English → Malayalam
Purpose and Scope
This document is the full doctrine matrix for the Matthew curriculum (PRD Phase 1, Step 4-5), covering every chapter of Matthew 1-28, built to be fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json — same doctrine keys, same doctrine names, same risk tiers, same review routing. The core passage, Matthew 5:1-12 (the Beatitudes), is the curriculum’s theological anchor, not its scope boundary; every chapter has been reviewed for load-bearing doctrinal content, and chapters that surface no doctrine beyond what is already captured elsewhere are explicitly marked as reviewed, no new doctrine rather than silently omitted.
As with the Romans baseline, Malayalam’s overall risk profile is lower than other languages in this pipeline because of nearly two millennia of continuous, settled Christian vocabulary in Kerala (the Saint Thomas Christian tradition, traditionally dated to 52 AD). Where Critical/High risk remains concentrated in Matthew, it falls into four categories:
- AI-drift risk — a generically-trained AI defaulting to a fluent but doctrinally wrong term the actual Malayalam Christian tradition never used (അവതാരം for incarnation/parousia; യുഗ- compounds for “the end of the age”).
- Kerala-specific vocabulary collisions — genuine overlap with Kerala’s Hindu devotional or folk-religious register (കന്യക/Kanyakumari; കരുണ/generalized ethical compassion; ഭാഗ്യവാന്/luck-fate; ജീവന് vs. ആത്മാവ്/ātman; കെട്ടുക/അഴിക്കുക vs. folk-ritual binding).
- Internal Malayalam-church sensitivities carried over from the Romans baseline (caste-heritage stratification between Saint Thomas/Syrian Christian and Dalit-convert communities; the canonization-flavored register of “saints”).
- Doctrines new to this curriculum that the Romans baseline did not need to resolve (Kingdom of Heaven vs. Kingdom of God phrase-consistency; Son of Man title-flattening; the church’s binding/loosing authority; the singular/plural Sonship distinction introduced at Matthew 5:9).
Doctrine Matrix (Full Curriculum)
| # | Doctrine | Malayalam Doctrine Name | Category | Risk | Supporting Passages (Matthew) | Translation Risk Summary | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Kingdom of Heaven | സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യം | Kingdom | High | 3:2; 4:17; 5:3,10,19-20; 6:10,33; 13:11,24-52; 18:1-4; 19:14,23-24; 25:1,34 | Separate established compound from baseline’s ദൈവരാജ്യം; ~32 occurrences make cross-document inconsistency highly visible; must be taught as one doctrine in two stylistic forms. | Human theologian |
| 2 | Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David | ദാവീദിന്റെ പുത്രനായ വാഗ്ദത്ത മിശിഹാ | Christology | High | 1:1,17; 9:27; 12:23; 15:22; 20:30-31; 21:9; 22:41-45 | Title-use ദാവീദിന്റെ പുത്രന് must stay distinct from baseline’s lineage-phrase ദാവീദിന്റെ വംശത്തില്; ഹോശന്ന requires transliteration+gloss, native to no Malayalam tradition. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Incarnation and Virgin Birth | കന്യകാജനനവും മാംസധാരണവും | Christology | Critical | 1:18-23 | NEVER അവതാരം (baseline rule extended). കന്യക carries Kanyakumari virgin-goddess resonance in general Malayalam usage; must remain historical, once-for-all, Spirit-wrought. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Deity of Christ | ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ദൈവത്വം | Christology | Critical | 1:23; 9:6; 12:8; 14:33; 16:16; 26:63-64; 27:54; 28:9,17 | προσκυνέω directed at Jesus must render ആരാധിക്കുക/നമസ്കരിക്കുക, never softened to ബഹുമാനിക്കുക (mere honor) — a real lexical option Malayalam offers that would blunt the deity claim. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Sonship of Christ | ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പുത്രത്വം | Christology | Critical | 3:17; 14:33; 16:16; 17:5; 26:63 | ദൈവപുത്രന് required, never ദേവപുത്രന്; must be held rigorously distinct from plural believer-sonship at 5:9/5:45 — a distinction the Romans baseline never needed with this frequency. | Human theologian |
| 6 | The Son of Man’s Authority to Forgive and Judge | മനുഷ്യപുത്രന്റെ അധികാരം | Christology | Critical | 9:6,8; 12:8; 16:27-28; 24:30; 25:31; 26:64 | Risk is flattening, not a competing term: a fluent മനുഷ്യപുത്രന് reads as merely “a human being,” losing the Danielic (Dan 7:13-14) judgment-authority force. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Lordship of Christ | ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ കര്ത്തൃത്വം | Christology | Critical | 7:21-22; 8:2; 12:8; 22:41-45; 28:18 | കര്ത്താവ് established and unambiguous per baseline; Matthew 12:8 (Sabbath) and 22:41-45 (David’s Lord) make the deity claim explicit and require dedicated translator attention. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy | പ്രവചനത്തിന്റെ നിവൃത്തി | Prophecy | High | 1:22-23; 2:15,17-18,23; 4:14-16; 5:17; 8:17; 12:17-21; 13:14-15,35; 21:4-5; 26:56; 27:9-10 | Baseline doctrine noun already exists at Native-speaker Medium tier in Romans; elevated to High here because ~12 occurrences make any rendering inconsistency far more visible than Romans’ occasional citation. | Human theologian |
| 9 | The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching | യേശുവിന്റെ ഉപദേശത്തിന്റെ അധികാരം | Teaching | High | 5:1-2; 7:28-29; 8:9; 9:6; 21:23-27; 28:18-20 | New doctrine for the curriculum. അധികാരം (rightful, delegated authority) must be kept distinct from ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശക്തി (raw might, baseline’s δύναμις term) — precision risk, not a competing devotional term. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | പരീശന്മാരെക്കാള് ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ നീതി | Ethics/Salvation | High | 5:6,20,48; 6:1-18; 9:13; 12:7; 15:1-20; 23:1-39 | നീതി (reused exactly; never ധര്മ്മം) carries both ethical-conduct and forensic senses without collapsing one into the other; foil term കപടഭക്തന് built on ഭക്തി requires a note distinguishing false performance from devotion itself. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Mercy as the Mark of True Righteousness | കരുണ യഥാര്ത്ഥ നീതിയുടെ അടയാളം | Ethics | High | 5:7; 9:13; 9:36; 12:7; 18:33 | കരുണ overlaps with generalized Hindu/Buddhist ethical-compassion vocabulary (parallel risk profile to baseline’s കൃപ/bhakti caution); must be anchored in God’s character and Hosea 6:6’s priority over ritual, not generic virtue. | Human theologian |
| 12 | The Church and Church Discipline | സഭയും സഭാശിക്ഷണവും | Ecclesiology | High | 16:18-19; 18:15-20 | സഭ reused exactly (baseline Medium); binding/loosing (കെട്ടുക/അഴിക്കുക) is new — must read as heaven-ratified declarative authority, not autonomous power or folk-ritual binding/exorcism formula common elsewhere in Kerala’s religious register; discipline is restorative, not punitive. | Human theologian |
| 13 | The Great Commission | മഹത്തായ നിയോഗം | Mission | High | 28:18-20 | ശിഷ്യരാക്കുവിന് must not soften into general encouragement; എല്ലാ ജനതകളും reuses baseline’s ജനതകള് (never ജാതികള്/“castes”) in its maximal universal sense — must not be narrowed to the Jew/Gentile-contrast sense used elsewhere. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Trinitarian Baptismal Formula | ത്രിത്വത്തിന്റെ നാമത്തിലുള്ള സ്നാനം | Trinity/Sacrament | Critical | 3:16-17; 28:19 | All three Persons’ baseline names in fixed order; the singular ὄνομα (“name”) shared by three Persons must not fragment into three separate names — the point underlying every Malayalam Christian tradition’s baptismal liturgy. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Judgment and the End of the Age | ന്യായവിധിയും ലോകാവസാനവും | Eschatology | Critical | 13:39-43,49-50; 24:3,29-31; 25:31-46 | AVOID any യുഗ- compound (Hindu cyclical cosmic-age framework); use ലോകാവസാനം/കാലസമാപ്തി only — the clearest cyclical-time collision risk in the curriculum. | Human theologian |
| 16 | The Second Coming of Christ | ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പുനരാഗമനം | Eschatology | Critical | 24:3,27,30,37-39; 26:64 | ആഗമനം must read as a singular, final, visible event, not a repeatable divine appearance — extends the baseline’s forbidden-അവതാരം caution to this related concept. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit | പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെതിരെയുള്ള ദൂഷണം | Sin/Pneumatology | Critical | 12:31-32 | ദൂഷണം paired precisely with baseline’s Critical പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്; must distinguish this deliberate, persistent rejection from ordinary sin or momentary doubt — risk of both understatement and overreach. | Human theologian |
| 18 | The Atonement as Ransom | മറുവിലയായുള്ള പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം | Salvation | Critical | 20:28; 26:26-28 | മറുവില must not be softened to vague “sacrifice/help”; the covenant-blood phrase at 26:28 must retain atoning, forgiveness-securing force, not become a merely symbolic memorial. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Resurrection of Christ | ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേല്പ്പ് | Christology/Eschatology | Critical | 12:39-40; 16:21; 17:22-23; 20:17-19; 28:1-10 | ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേല്പ്പ്/ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേല്ക്കുക required; NEVER പുനര്ജന്മം. Highest-stakes chapter (28) for this risk category; verb/noun forms must map consistently to the Romans package’s root. | Human theologian |
| 20 | The Beatitudes and Kingdom Blessedness | സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗ്യപ്രഖ്യാപനങ്ങള് | Ethics/Kingdom (CORE PASSAGE) | High | 5:3-12 | ഭാഗ്യവാന് is built on ഭാഗ്യം (“luck/fortune”), carrying karma/fate connotations in general and devotional usage; every Beatitude requires the same note affirming God’s specific, objective declaration of favor, not luck or merit. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Adoptive Sonship of Believers | വിശ്വാസികളുടെ ദത്തുപുത്രത്വം | Salvation | High | 5:9; 5:45 | Plural υἱοὶ Θεοῦ must render ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര്/ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മക്കള്, never identically to the singular, Critical ദൈവപുത്രന് reserved for Christ — a collision risk absent from Romans’ adoption passages. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Gentile Inclusion and Worship of Christ | ജനതകളുടെ ഉള്പ്പെടുത്തലും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ആരാധനയും | Ecclesiology/Missiology | High | 2:1-12; 8:5-13; 15:21-28; 28:19 | Use ജനതകള്, never ജാതികള് (given Kerala’s own caste history and internal caste-heritage stratification within Malayalam Christianity, per baseline); Gentile worship of Jesus (magi) must retain full deity-affirming ആരാധിക്കുക force. | Human theologian |
| 23 | Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus | ശിഷ്യത്വവും യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ വിലയും | Discipleship | High | 4:19-22; 8:19-22; 10:34-39; 16:24-26; 19:27-29 | ”Lose his life” (16:25) requires ജീവന്, NOT ആത്മാവ് — ആത്മാവ് risks a Vedantic ātman-merger misreading foreign to Jesus’s meaning of renewed personal life in Christ; a distinctly Matthean risk absent from Romans. | Human theologian |
| 24 | Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment | നിത്യജീവനും നിത്യദണ്ഡനവും | Eschatology | High | 19:16,29; 25:34,41,46 | നിത്യം must be unending linear duration in a fixed final state, not liberation from/continuation within a rebirth cycle; 25:46’s deliberate parallelism requires the identical Malayalam word on both sides of the verse. | Human theologian |
| 25 | The Great Tribulation | മഹാപീഡനകാലം | Eschatology | Medium | 24:9-22 | Standard eschatological-distress vocabulary; low competing-religious-vocabulary risk; needs only careful preservation of the described distress’s unprecedented intensity. | Native speaker review |
| 26 | The Mystery of the Kingdom in Parables | രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഉപമകളിലെ രഹസ്യം | Kingdom/Revelation | Medium | 13:1-52 | രഹസ്യം must be revealed-yet-previously-hidden truth, not an esoteric/occult secret requiring ritual initiation — a live risk given Kerala’s cultural familiarity with tantric/esoteric vocabulary; ഉപമ itself is low-risk. | Native speaker review |
| 27 | Human Tradition versus God’s Commandment | മാനുഷിക പാരമ്പര്യവും ദൈവകല്പ്പനയും | Ethics | Medium | 15:1-9; 23:1-36 | പൂര്വ്വികരുടെ പാരമ്പര്യം must stay clearly distinguished from ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കല്പ്പന; low ambiguity in the vocabulary itself. | Native speaker review |
| 28 | Repentance and Preparation for the Kingdom | മാനസാന്തരവും രാജ്യത്തിനുള്ള ഒരുക്കവും | Salvation/Kingdom | Medium | 3:1-12; 4:17 | മാനസാന്തരം is settled Malayalam Christian vocabulary; must not flatten to mere sorrow (ദുഃഖം) or ritual atonement practice. | Native speaker review |
| 29 | The Lord’s Prayer and Filial Address to God | കര്ത്താവിന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന | Worship/Prayer | Medium | 6:5-15 | Reuses baseline’s Critical പിതാവ് and Medium പരിശുദ്ധ within intimate corporate address; structure/vocabulary otherwise well-established. | Native speaker review |
| 30 | Forgiveness and Reconciliation | ക്ഷമയും അനുരഞ്ജനവും | Ethics/Relationship | Medium | 6:12; 18:21-35 | Debt-metaphor (കടങ്ങള്) for sin should be preserved rather than collapsed directly into പാപം, to retain the relational-legal picture. | Native speaker review |
| 31 | Marriage as Creation Covenant | സൃഷ്ടിയിലെ ഉടമ്പടിയായ വിവാഹം | Ethics/Covenant | Medium | 19:3-12 | Standard vocabulary (വിവാഹമോചനം); covenantal framing echoes baseline’s ഉടമ്പടി by theological extension. | Native speaker review |
| 32 | Stewardship and Kingdom Reward | കാര്യവിചാരണയും രാജ്യപ്രതിഫലവും | Ethics/Kingdom | Medium | 6:19-21; 20:1-16; 25:14-30 | പ്രതിഫലം is the ordinary secular word for earned wages; grace-sensitive occurrences must be flagged so reward is not misread as autonomously-earned merit contradicting the baseline’s Critical Grace doctrine. | Native speaker review |
| 33 | Miracles as Signs of the Kingdom | രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ അടയാളങ്ങളായ അത്ഭുതങ്ങള് | Kingdom | Low | 8:1-9:34; 11:2-6; 12:22-28 | Standard, well-established healing/deliverance vocabulary; no significant competing-tradition ambiguity. | Automated review |
| 34 | Genealogy and Historical Reliability of Christ’s Lineage | ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ വംശാവലിയുടെ ചരിത്രപരത | History/Christology | Low | 1:1-17 | Standard genealogical vocabulary and established proper names (ദാവീദ്, അബ്രാഹാം); low ambiguity beyond name-form consistency. | Automated review |

Critical Risk Doctrines
Incarnation and Virgin Birth
Malayalam name: കന്യകാജനനവും മാംസധാരണവും
Key terms: virgin, conceived, Holy Spirit, Immanuel
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL, per the baseline’s Incarnation entry: NEVER അവതാരം. Additionally specific to this curriculum, കന്യക (“virgin”) carries devotional/mythological resonance in Malayalam via the Kanyakumari virgin-goddess (Devi) tradition; translator notes must keep Matthew 1’s claim explicitly historical, once-for-all, and Spirit-wrought, distinct from any devotional or mythic virgin-figure association.
Deity of Christ
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ദൈവത്വം
Key terms: Son of God, Immanuel, Lord of the Sabbath, worship him
Review routing: Human theologian
Co-equal divine nature must not be softened toward an avatar framework, per the baseline. The προσκυνέω (“worship”) occurrences directed at Jesus (2:2, 11; 14:33; 28:9, 17) must render as ആരാധിക്കുക/നമസ്കരിക്കുക, never softened to mere honor (ബഹുമാനിക്കുക), since Malayalam has a real lexical option to blunt this deity affirmation that Greek’s single verb does not offer as readily.
Sonship of Christ
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പുത്രത്വം
Key terms: Son of God, beloved Son, my Son
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL, per baseline: ദൈവപുത്രന് required, never ദേവപുത്രന്. Matthew additionally requires this singular Christological title be held rigorously distinct from the plural adoptive believer-sonship of Matthew 5:9 and 5:45 (ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര്/ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മക്കള്) — a distinction Romans did not need to make with this frequency, since Matthew 5 introduces plural “sons of God” language absent from Romans’ Sonship passages.
The Son of Man’s Authority to Forgive and Judge
Malayalam name: മനുഷ്യപുത്രന്റെ അധികാരം
Key terms: Son of Man, authority to forgive sins, coming on the clouds
Review routing: Human theologian
This is a title new to this curriculum (absent from the Romans baseline). The distinct Malayalam risk is not a competing religious term but flattening: a generically-fluent rendering of മനുഷ്യപുത്രന് reads naturally as merely descriptive (“a human being”), losing the Danielic (Dan 7:13-14) judgment-authority force the Greek title carries. This is a hallucination-adjacent risk of losing theological weight through excessive fluency, distinct from the baseline’s usual pattern of a competing Hindu/devotional term.
Lordship of Christ
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ കര്ത്തൃത്വം
Key terms: Lord, Lord of the Sabbath, David’s Lord
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL, per baseline: കര്ത്താവ് established and unambiguous. Matthew 12:8 (Lord of the Sabbath) and 22:41-45 (David’s own Lord) make the implicit deity-claim explicit by tying Lordship directly to authority over a foundational Mosaic institution and to David’s own messianic expectation — these two passages should receive dedicated translator attention beyond the baseline’s general κύριος guidance.
Trinitarian Baptismal Formula
Malayalam name: ത്രിത്വത്തിന്റെ നാമത്തിലുള്ള സ്നാനം
Key terms: baptizing, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
The clearest single-verse Trinitarian formula in the New Testament. All three Divine Persons’ names must use the exact baseline terms (പിതാവ്, ദൈവപുത്രന്/“the Son,” പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്) in fixed order. The single Trinitarian “name” (ὄνομα, singular) shared by three Persons must be preserved grammatically in Malayalam and not rendered as three separate names — a subtle but doctrinally essential point underlying every Malayalam Christian tradition’s baptismal liturgy, and the specific reason this formula is escalated above the general baptism term’s own High rating.
Judgment and the End of the Age
Malayalam name: ന്യായവിധിയും ലോകാവസാനവും
Key terms: end of the age, harvest, furnace of fire, weeping and gnashing of teeth
Review routing: Human theologian
AVOID any യുഗ- (yuga) compound (e.g. യുഗാവസാനം, യുഗാന്തം): യുഗം is heavily loaded with Hindu cosmology’s cyclically recurring cosmic ages (Satya/Treta/Dvapara/Kali Yuga). Matthew’s eschatology is strictly linear and final, not cyclical; a yuga-compound would silently reintroduce exactly the cyclical-time worldview the Gospel’s whole judgment narrative rejects — the clearest cyclical-time collision risk in this curriculum, parallel in severity to the baseline’s caution about പുനര്ജന്മം for resurrection. Use ലോകാവസാനം/കാലസമാപ്തി only.
The Second Coming of Christ
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പുനരാഗമനം
Key terms: coming of the Son of Man, as the lightning, sign of your coming
Review routing: Human theologian
ആഗമനം (parousia) must be read as a singular, final, visible, historical event, not a repeatable divine appearance. This doctrine is new to the curriculum (absent from Romans) and extends the baseline’s forbidden-അവതാരം caution for Incarnation to this closely related concept: a fluent Malayalam rendering could otherwise be assimilated into a Hindu avatar-descent pattern of periodic divine appearances across ages, which is precisely the cyclical framework this singular, final event must be distinguished from.
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Malayalam name: പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെതിരെയുള്ള ദൂഷണം
Key terms: blasphemy against the Spirit, unpardonable, neither in this age nor the age to come
Review routing: Human theologian
The most doctrinally severe single teaching in Matthew regarding sin. ദൂഷണം (blasphemy/slander) must be paired precisely with the baseline’s Critical പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ്, and translator notes must distinguish this specific, deliberate, persistent rejection from ordinary sin or momentary doubt, since Malayalam’s general vocabulary for “insult” could otherwise understate the passage’s severity or, conversely, be applied too broadly to unrelated doubts or questions believers may raise.
The Atonement as Ransom
Malayalam name: മറുവിലയായുള്ള പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം
Key terms: ransom for many, blood of the covenant, poured out for forgiveness
Review routing: Human theologian
മറുവില (the price paid to redeem a captive) must not be softened to a vague “sacrifice” or “help”; the specific substitutionary-exchange idea is the doctrinal point. At 26:28, ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ എന്റെ രക്തം must retain its atoning, forgiveness-securing force and not be flattened into a merely symbolic memorial phrase — both passages directly extend the baseline’s Critical Salvation and Imputed Righteousness doctrines into Matthew’s own atonement vocabulary.
Resurrection of Christ
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേല്പ്പ്
Key terms: raised, he is not here, sign of Jonah
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL, per baseline: ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേല്പ്പ്/ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേല്ക്കുക required; NEVER പുനര്ജന്മം. Matthew both predicts the resurrection three times and narrates it directly (Ch. 28), making this the single highest-stakes chapter in the book for this risk category; the verb (ἐγείρω) and noun (ἀνάστασις) forms must map to the same Malayalam root consistently for cross-document fidelity with the Romans package.
High Risk Doctrines
The Kingdom of Heaven
Malayalam name: സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യം
Key terms: kingdom of heaven, kingdom of God, kingdom come
Review routing: Human theologian
Matthew’s signature phrase സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യം is a separate established Malayalam Bible compound from the baseline’s ദൈവരാജ്യം (used only rarely in Matthew, e.g. 12:28; 19:24; 21:31, 43); both denote the identical divine reign, but the sheer repetition (~32 occurrences of the “heaven” form) means any drift between the two phrases across the curriculum’s many documents would be highly visible and confusing to learners moving between lessons. Elevated above the baseline Kingdom Mission tier for this consistency reason.
Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Malayalam name: ദാവീദിന്റെ പുത്രനായ വാഗ്ദത്ത മിശിഹാ
Key terms: son of David, Christ, messiah, hosanna
Review routing: Human theologian
ദാവീദിന്റെ പുത്രന് (title-use, direct address) must be kept distinct from the baseline’s lineage-phrase ദാവീദിന്റെ വംശത്തില് (used for descent-statements like Romans 1:3); collapsing the two would flatten a live messianic acclamation into a mere genealogical note. The Hosanna acclamation (21:9) additionally requires preserved transliteration (ഹോശന്ന) with gloss, since it is native to no Malayalam religious tradition and could otherwise be skipped or paraphrased away.
Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Malayalam name: പ്രവചനത്തിന്റെ നിവൃത്തി
Key terms: fulfilled, it was written, the prophet said
Review routing: Human theologian
Matthew’s fulfillment-formula recurs roughly twelve times and structurally organizes the entire Gospel’s argument; the doctrinal noun already exists in the baseline registry (പ്രവചനത്തിന്റെ നിവൃത്തി, Native-speaker-review Medium in Romans), but is elevated to High here because Matthew’s much higher repetition frequency makes any inconsistency in rendering the verb നിറവേറുക/നിറവേറി across ~12 occurrences far more visible to learners than the occasional Romans citation.
The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Malayalam name: യേശുവിന്റെ ഉപദേശത്തിന്റെ അധികാരം
Key terms: authority, taught as one having authority, not as the scribes
Review routing: Human theologian
This doctrine is new to the curriculum (Romans does not use ἐξουσία this way). The specific Malayalam risk is not a competing devotional term but a translation-precision one: അധികാരം (rightful, delegated authority) must be kept terminologically distinct from ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശക്തി (raw might/power, the baseline’s δύναμις term), since conflating the two would blur Matthew’s precise claim that Jesus teaches with inherent divine right to command, not merely impressive ability.
Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Malayalam name: പരീശന്മാരെക്കാള് ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ നീതി
Key terms: righteousness, hypocrites, pure in heart, tradition of the elders
Review routing: Human theologian
നീതി (reused exactly from the baseline; never ധര്മ്മം) must carry both Matthew’s ethical-practice sense (righteous conduct/character) and, more rarely, Romans’ forensic sense, without the reader collapsing one into the other. The doctrine’s negative foil, കപടഭക്തന് (hypocrite), is built on ഭക്തി (devotion) — the same root the baseline rejects for “faith” — requiring a translator note that the critique targets the falseness of performance, not devotion itself.
Mercy as the Mark of True Righteousness
Malayalam name: കരുണ യഥാര്ത്ഥ നീതിയുടെ അടയാളം
Key terms: mercy, merciful, mercy not sacrifice
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine for this curriculum. കരുണ is shared vocabulary with generalized Hindu- and Buddhist-influenced ethical-compassion usage in Malayalam, a risk profile parallel to the baseline’s caution about കൃപ (grace) overlapping with Kerala’s bhakti devotional tradition. Every occurrence must anchor mercy explicitly in God’s character and priority over ritual performance (Hosea 6:6, cited Matt 9:13/12:7), not a self-cultivated generic virtue any devout person of any tradition might practice.
The Church and Church Discipline
Malayalam name: സഭയും സഭാശിക്ഷണവും
Key terms: church, bind, loose, tell it to the church, gates of Hades
Review routing: Human theologian
സഭ is reused exactly from the baseline (Medium risk there), but the accompanying binding/loosing authority language (കെട്ടുക/അഴിക്കുക) is new to this curriculum and carries its own High risk: it must be understood as rabbinic-style, heaven-ratified declarative authority for doctrinal/disciplinary rulings, not autonomous human power nor a magical/incantational binding formula — a genuine risk given Kerala’s broader familiarity with ritual binding/exorcism vocabulary in certain folk-religious contexts. Discipline itself must be rendered as restorative (“you have gained your brother,” 18:15), not punitive expulsion.
The Great Commission
Malayalam name: മഹത്തായ നിയോഗം
Key terms: make disciples, all nations, teaching them to observe
Review routing: Human theologian
ശിഷ്യരാക്കുവിന് (make disciples) is the Commission’s thesis-command and must not be softened into a vaguer general encouragement. എല്ലാ ജനതകളും reuses the baseline’s ജനതകള് (never ജാതികള്, which reads as “castes”), here in its maximal universal sense; translator notes must clarify this is the fullest “all peoples of the earth” scope, not the narrower Jew/Gentile-contrast sense used elsewhere, so the Commission’s global reach is not inadvertently narrowed for Malayalam readers.
The Beatitudes and Kingdom Blessedness
Malayalam name: സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗ്യപ്രഖ്യാപനങ്ങള്
Key terms: blessed, poor in spirit, meek, pure in heart, persecuted for righteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
This curriculum’s core passage. ഭാഗ്യവാന് (blessed), the established rendering, is built on ഭാഗ്യം, Malayalam’s ordinary word for “luck/fortune,” carrying karma-determined or fate-granted connotations in general and Hindu devotional usage — every one of the eight/nine Beatitudes requires the same translator note making explicit that this is God’s specific, objective declaration of favor on a spiritual condition, not luck, fate, or accumulated merit, parallel to the baseline’s caution around വിധി for “election.”
Adoptive Sonship of Believers (Peacemakers Called Sons of God)
Malayalam name: വിശ്വാസികളുടെ ദത്തുപുത്രത്വം
Key terms: sons of God, children of God, peacemakers
Review routing: Human theologian
The plural υἱοὶ Θεοῦ must render as ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര് or ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മക്കള്, never identically to the baseline’s singular, Critical-risk ദൈവപുത്രന് reserved exclusively for Christ. This grammatical/doctrinal separation is a distinctly Matthean concern the Romans baseline’s Adoption doctrine did not need to guard against with this specific singular/plural collision risk, since Romans 8’s adoption language does not sit beside a repeated singular Christological title in the same discourse the way Matthew 5 does.
Gentile Inclusion and Worship of Christ
Malayalam name: ജനതകളുടെ ഉള്പ്പെടുത്തലും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ആരാധനയും
Key terms: magi worshiped him, centurion’s faith, Canaanite woman, all nations
Review routing: Human theologian
Parallels the baseline’s Unity of Jews and Gentiles doctrine, with the same governing rule: use ജനതകള്, never ജാതികള് (which reads as “castes” given Kerala’s own caste history and the baseline-documented internal caste-heritage stratification within Malayalam Christianity itself). Matthew additionally requires προσκυνέω (worship) directed at Jesus by Gentiles (the magi, 2:11) to render with full deity-affirming force (ആരാധിക്കുക), reinforcing rather than undercutting the inclusion theme.
Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Malayalam name: ശിഷ്യത്വവും യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ വിലയും
Key terms: follow me, take up his cross, lose his life, not peace but a sword
Review routing: Human theologian
The saying “whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (16:25) requires ജീവന് (life), NOT ആത്മാവ് (soul/spirit): ആത്മാവ് in Malayalam’s broader religious register evokes the Hindu/Vedantic ātman, the individual self ultimately merged into the impersonal Absolute, producing a foreign “lose your separate self to merge with the Absolute” misreading rather than Jesus’s actual meaning of finding renewed personal life in relationship with Christ. This is a distinctly Matthean risk absent from the Romans baseline’s vocabulary set.
Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment
Malayalam name: നിത്യജീവനും നിത്യദണ്ഡനവും
Key terms: eternal life, eternal punishment, inherit the kingdom
Review routing: Human theologian
നിത്യം must be read as unending linear duration in a fixed final state, not liberation from or continuation within a cycle of rebirth — a risk category directly analogous to the baseline’s caution about മോക്ഷം/മുക്തി/പുനര്ജന്മം for salvation/resurrection. Matthew 25:46 deliberately uses the identical word for both destinies; the same Malayalam word must be used in both halves of the verse to preserve this parallelism, since softening one side would implicitly soften the other.
Medium Risk Doctrines
The Great Tribulation
Malayalam name: മഹാപീഡനകാലം
Key terms: great tribulation, unless those days were shortened
Review routing: Native speaker review
മഹാപീഡനം is standard eschatological-distress vocabulary with low competing-religious-vocabulary risk in Malayalam; the doctrine requires only careful native-speaker attention to preserve the unprecedented, intense character of the described distress.
The Mystery of the Kingdom in Parables
Malayalam name: രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഉപമകളിലെ രഹസ്യം
Key terms: parable, mystery, ears to hear
Review routing: Native speaker review
രഹസ്യം (mystery) must be framed as revealed-yet-previously-hidden truth, not an esoteric or occult secret earned through ritual initiation — a risk given Kerala’s general cultural familiarity with tantric/esoteric religious vocabulary, though ഉപമ (parable) itself is doctrinally safe and low-risk.
Human Tradition versus God’s Commandment
Malayalam name: മാനുഷിക പാരമ്പര്യവും ദൈവകല്പ്പനയും
Key terms: tradition of the elders, commandment of God, whitewashed tombs
Review routing: Native speaker review
പൂര്വ്വികരുടെ പാരമ്പര്യം must be clearly distinguished in context from ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കല്പ്പന, since the doctrinal point rests entirely on that contrast; native-speaker review is sufficient given the low ambiguity of the vocabulary itself.
Repentance and Preparation for the Kingdom
Malayalam name: മാനസാന്തരവും രാജ്യത്തിനുള്ള ഒരുക്കവും
Key terms: repent, kingdom of heaven is at hand, prepare the way
Review routing: Native speaker review
മാനസാന്തരം is the established Malayalam Christian term and must not be flattened to mere sorrow (ദുഃഖം) or a generic ritual-atonement practice; native-speaker review is adequate given the term’s long-settled usage.
The Lord’s Prayer and Filial Address to God
Malayalam name: കര്ത്താവിന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന
Key terms: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, daily bread
Review routing: Native speaker review
Reuses the baseline’s Critical പിതാവ് and Medium പരിശുദ്ധ terms within a corporate, intimate prayer-address; the doctrine itself is rated Medium here because the model prayer’s structure and vocabulary are otherwise well-established and low-ambiguity across Malayalam Christian tradition.
Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Malayalam name: ക്ഷമയും അനുരഞ്ജനവും
Key terms: forgive us our debts, seventy times seven, unforgiving servant
Review routing: Native speaker review
The debt-metaphor (കടങ്ങള്) for sin should be preserved rather than collapsed directly into പാപം, to retain Jesus’s specific relational-legal picture of forgiveness; low-to-medium ambiguity overall given established vocabulary.
Marriage as Creation Covenant
Malayalam name: സൃഷ്ടിയിലെ ഉടമ്പടിയായ വിവാഹം
Key terms: what God has joined together, divorce, one flesh
Review routing: Native speaker review
Standard Malayalam vocabulary (വിവാഹമോചനം for divorce) with low doctrinal-term risk in itself; the covenantal framing echoes, by theological extension, the baseline’s ഉടമ്പടി concept and requires only native-speaker-level attention to preserve that connection.
Stewardship and Kingdom Reward
Malayalam name: കാര്യവിചാരണയും രാജ്യപ്രതിഫലവും
Key terms: reward, talents, well done, good and faithful servant
Review routing: Native speaker review
പ്രതിഫലം (reward) is the ordinary secular word for wages/earned payment, carrying a strong earn-what-you-work-for connotation; every grace-sensitive occurrence should be flagged in translator notes so it is not misread as autonomously earned merit contradicting the baseline’s Critical Grace doctrine, though native-speaker review is generally sufficient outside the most explicit grace-contrast passages.
Low Risk Doctrines
Miracles as Signs of the Kingdom
Malayalam name: രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ അടയാളങ്ങളായ അത്ഭുതങ്ങള്
Key terms: healed, cast out demons, authority over the winds and sea
Review routing: Automated review
Standard, well-established Malayalam Bible vocabulary for healing and deliverance narratives with no significant competing-tradition ambiguity; automated review is sufficient.
Genealogy and Historical Reliability of Christ’s Lineage
Malayalam name: ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ വംശാവലിയുടെ ചരിത്രപരത
Key terms: book of the genealogy, son of David, son of Abraham
Review routing: Automated review
Standard genealogical vocabulary and established proper-name forms (ദാവീദ്, അബ്രാഹാം) with low ambiguity; roots Jesus in verifiable human history with no significant Malayalam-specific translation risk beyond consistency of proper names.
