07 Semantic Analysis — Koine Greek Source Text

Ephesians 1–6 | English → Malayalam

Methodology

This analysis proceeds from the Koine Greek text of Ephesians. The core passage (Ephesians 2:1–10) receives full verse-by-verse treatment of every load-bearing term. Every other chapter of the book receives chapter-level treatment of its load-bearing theological vocabulary, using the same fields: Greek term, transliteration, literal meaning, semantic range, English variants, contextual theological meaning in Ephesians, and destination-language (Malayalam) rendering risk.

Where a term is already recorded in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json, that exact Malayalam rendering is reused without alteration, per pipeline rule. New terms not present in the Romans baseline are analyzed fresh and proposed for addition to translation memory in 08_core_glossary.md. Malayalam renderings below draw on the established ecumenical Malayalam Bible (Satyavedapustakam) tradition wherever it has a settled rendering; where the tradition already uses a specific phrase (e.g. Ephesians 6:11’s ദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ സര്‍വ്വായുധവര്‍ഗ്ഗം), that phrase is retained rather than invented anew.

Risk tiers (Critical/High/Medium/Low) follow the same definitions as the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json.

PART 1 — CORE PASSAGE: Ephesians 2:1–10 (Verse-by-Verse)

This passage is the theological anchor of the curriculum: humanity’s condition apart from Christ (2:1–3), God’s saving initiative in grace (2:4–7), and salvation by grace through faith apart from works, unto good works (2:8–10). Nearly every doctrine in the curriculum’s scope (grace, election, new humanity, walking in newness of life) is compressed into these ten verses.

Ephesians 2:1

deadνεκρόςnekroscorpse-like, lifelessPhysically dead; metaphorically, spiritually unresponsive to Goddead, deadnessTotal spiritual deadness apart from Christ — not sickness or diminished capacity but the absence of spiritual life. Foundational to the grace doctrine: the dead cannot contribute to their own rescue.മരിച്ചവർ (marichavar)High — must not be softened to “weak” or “sick,” which would imply latent ability to self-revive and undercut sola gratia.
trespassesπαράπτωμαparaptōmaa false step, a falling besideSpecific acts of wrongdoing, moral lapsestrespasses, transgressions, offensesConcrete acts of sin, paired with ἁμαρτία for rhetorical fullness.അതിക്രമങ്ങൾ (athikramangal)Low — established Malayalam Bible vocabulary.

Verse 2 describes the old walk; verse 10 (below) the new.നടന്നു / നടപ്പ് (nadannu / nadappu)Medium — must render consistently across the letter as “way of life,” not a one-time incident.

Must be taught as a specific personal being (Satan), not a diffuse impersonal malevolent atmosphere consistent with folk spirit-affliction categories.

Ephesians 2:4

This anticipates 2:6 and connects directly to baseline’s “resurrection” doctrine.ക്രിസ്തുവിനോടുകൂടെ ജീവിപ്പിച്ചു (kristhuvinodukoode jeevippichu)High — must retain the “with Christ” (σύν-) union dimension; a flattened “gave us new life” loses the co-resurrection/union-with-Christ doctrine central to baseline’s christian_identity_in_christ.

seated us with himσυγκαθίζωsynkathizōto seat together withEnthronement imagery: shared position of honor and authority with the risen Christseated us with him, made us sit with himPresent positional reality (already, though not yet consummated) of being seated with Christ in triumph over the “rulers and authorities” named in ch. 1 and ch. 6.അവനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുത്തി (avanodukoode irutthi)High — must be read positionally/spiritually (our standing in Christ), not as a claim of present physical enthronement or a prosperity-style claim to present worldly power.
heavenly placesἐπουράνιοιepouranioithe heavenly/upper regionsThe unseen spiritual realm where both God’s throne and the “rulers and authorities” of 6:12 operateheavenly places, heavenly realmsA key structural term for the letter (used 5 times: 1:3, 1:20, 2:6, 3:10, 6:12) tying together blessing, Christ’s exaltation, the church’s position, and spiritual warfare.സ്വർഗ്ഗീയസ്ഥലങ്ങൾ (swargeeyasthalangal)Medium — must be rendered identically at all five occurrences for structural coherence; distinguish from a generic “heaven” (bare afterlife destination).

Ephesians 2:7

by grace…through faithχάριτι…διὰ πίστεωςchariti…dia pisteōsby grace…through faithGrace is the source/basis; faith is the means/channel — faith itself is not the meritorious causeby grace through faithThe curriculum’s core doctrinal formula: “Salvation by Grace through Faith.” Reuses baseline “grace” (κρuപ) and “faith” (വിശ്വാസം) exactly.കൃപയാൽ…വിശ്വാസത്താൽ (krupayal…vishwasathal) — reuse baseline exactlyCritical — this is one of the highest-use pastoral verses in the curriculum; per Theological Consistency Rules (baseline §), render identically in every document. Must not let “through faith” drift toward implying faith is a human work that earns grace.
thisτοῦτοtoutothis (neuter demonstrative)Debated referent: “this” (salvation as a whole), not “faith” specifically (grammatically, πίστις is feminine and τοῦτο is neuter)this, this salvationConfirms that the entire salvation-by-grace-through-faith event, not merely faith in isolation, is God’s gift — removing any room for faith itself to be a human-generated merit.ഇത് (ith)High — a common translation pitfall is implying “faith is not your own doing” only, when the grammar and context indicate the whole salvation transaction is in view; translator note required.
gift of GodΘεοῦ τὸ δῶρονTheou to dōronof-God the giftA gift with no possibility of being purchased, earned, or deservedgift of God, God’s giftδῶρον (gift) reinforces χάρις (grace); together they exclude any works-basis, directly anticipating v. 9.ദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ ദാനം (daivathinte danam)High — must not be rendered with a term implying a boon granted for merit/devotion (cf. baseline’s caution on വരം for “gift” in the spiritual_gifts entry); this is unearned, one-directional divine gift.

Ephesians 2:9

boastκαυχάομαιkauchaomaito boast, glory in, take pride inSelf-congratulation on the basis of one’s own achievement or statusboast, take pride, glory inThe purpose clause: grace excludes boasting precisely because salvation is not performance-based; directly relevant to Kerala’s internal caste-heritage status concerns (cf. baseline’s universal_human_accountability doctrine).പ്രശംസിക്കുക / അഹങ്കരിക്കുക (prashamsikkuka / ahankarikkuka)Medium-High — should be read alongside baseline’s note that “no distinction” language undercuts any residual status-hierarchy, including within Kerala’s own Christian community.

Ephesians 2:10

createdκτίζωktizōto create, to make from nothing or to fundamentally re-makeNew-creation language; echoes 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Ephesians 4:24’s “new man”created, madePositions the good works of v. 10 as the fruit of a new creation, not the cause of the old creation’s rescue — resolving any apparent tension between v. 9 (not of works) and v. 10 (created for good works).സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു (srushtikkappettu)High — the sequence (created FOR good works, not BY good works) must be preserved in Malayalam word order/clause structure to avoid reversing the grace-then-works logic.
good worksἔργα ἀγαθάerga agathagood deeds/worksThe proper fruit and purpose of salvation, contrasted with ἔργα in v. 9 as the (rejected) ground of salvationgood works, good deedsResolves the letter’s grace/works tension: works are the intended outcome of grace, never its cause. Anticipates “Walking in Newness of Life” as a curriculum doctrine.നല്ല പ്രവൃത്തികൾ (nalla pravruthikal)High — translator note strongly recommended distinguishing this ἔργα (fruit of grace) from v. 9’s ἔργα (rejected as ground of salvation), since both render as പ്രവൃത്തികൾ.
prepared beforehandπροετοιμάζωproetoimazōto prepare in advanceGod’s sovereign, prior ordaining of the believer’s path of good worksprepared beforehand, prepared in advanceConnects to the letter’s predestination doctrine (1:5, 1:11) — even the believer’s good works fall within God’s prior sovereign plan.മുന്‍കൂട്ടി ഒരുക്കി (munkootti orukki)Medium-High — should be read in harmony with ch. 1’s മുൻനിയമനം (predestination) vocabulary, not treated as an unrelated, isolated idea.
walkπεριπατέωperipateōto walk, conduct oneselfReuse of v. 2’s term, now describing the redeemed pattern of lifewalk, live, conduct ourselvesForms an inclusio with v. 2: the passage moves from the old walk (death, disobedience) to the new walk (good works, prepared by God) — the structural key to “Walking in Newness of Life” as a curriculum doctrine.നടക്കുക (nadakkuka) — reuse v. 2 renderingMedium — must be rendered with the same root verb as v. 2 so Malayalam readers can perceive the deliberate before/after structure Paul constructs.

PART 2 — WHOLE-BOOK CHAPTER STUDY (Ephesians 1–6)

Chapter 1 (Eph 1:1–23)

Chapter 1 establishes the doctrinal foundation for the whole letter: election/predestination in Christ, redemption, the mystery of God’s will, sealing by the Spirit, and Christ’s supreme headship over all things and the church.

blessed / blessingεὐλογητός / εὐλογίαeulogētos / eulogiawell-spoken-of; a good word pronounced overGod’s favor bestowed, and the human response of praising God for itblessed, blessing1:3’s “Blessed be…who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing” — foundational doxological frame for the whole letter.അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ / അനുഗ്രഹം (anugrahikkappettavan / anugraham)Medium — അനുഗ്രഹം is widely shared with Hindu devotional vocabulary for a deity’s favor; unlike കൃപ (already flagged Critical/High in baseline), this is a comparatively lower-stakes, still-established Christian term, but the source (God’s sovereign choice “in Christ,” not devotee merit) should be kept explicit in teaching notes.
chose / predestinedἐκλέγομαι / προορίζωeklegomai / proorizōto choose out; to mark out/determine beforehandGod’s sovereign, personal, pre-temporal choice of individuals for salvation and adoptionchose, elected, predestined, foreordained1:4-5, 1:11 — the doctrinal heart of “Election and Predestination in Christ.” ἐκλέγομαι reuses baseline “election” (ദൈവത്തിന്‍റെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ്); προορίζω is a new, related term requiring its own entry.തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു (reuse baseline election) / മുൻനിയമനം ചെയ്തു (munniyamanam cheythu) — established Malayalam Bible term for προορίζωCritical — same fatalism-collision risk baseline already documents for “election”: must never be read through the lens of വിധി (fate) or തലയെഴുത്ത് (popular fatalism idiom). Predestination is personal, gracious, “in Christ” (ἐν Χριστῷ, 1:4), not an impersonal cosmic determinism.
adoption as sonsυἱοθεσίαhuiothesiaplacement as a sonFull legal son-status with inheritance rightsadoption, sonship1:5 — reuse baseline “adoption” exactly.ദത്തുപുത്രത്വം — reuse baseline exactlyMedium (per baseline).
redemptionἀπολύτρωσιςapolytrōsisa buying back, ransomingDeliverance secured by payment of a price (the blood of Christ, 1:7)redemption, ransom1:7, 1:14 — closely related to but distinct from “salvation” (ρaksha) and “justification”; emphasizes the costly, purchase-like nature of deliverance.വീണ്ടെടുപ്പ് (veendെduppu) — established Malayalam Bible termHigh — new term, proposed for translation memory. Must not be conflated with generic rescue (baseline’s രക്ഷ) nor drift toward മോക്ഷം/മുക്തി-adjacent liberation vocabulary; this is a purchased, blood-price deliverance, not liberation from a cosmic cycle.
mystery (of his will)μυστήριονmystēriona secret thing, previously hidden matterIn Paul, a previously hidden divine plan now disclosed in the gospel — never a private esoteric teaching reserved for spiritual initiatesmystery, secret1:9 — introduces the letter’s major “Mystery of Christ Revealed” doctrine, fully developed in ch. 3.മർമ്മം (marmam) — established Malayalam Bible term for μυστήριονHigh — new term, proposed for translation memory. മർമ്മം also denotes esoteric/vital-point knowledge in Malayalam martial-arts (കളരിപ്പയറ്റ്) and folk-occult tradition (മർമ്മ വിദ്യ); translator notes must clarify Paul’s mystery is God’s redemptive plan disclosed openly to all believers through the gospel, not privileged secret knowledge reserved for an initiated elite (guarding against a Gnostic-flavored misreading, which is historically the very heresy Ephesians/Colossians address).
inheritanceκληρονομίαklēronomiaan allotted possession, an inheritanceThe believer’s guaranteed future possession in Christinheritance, heritage1:11, 1:14, 1:18 — ties to adoption (sons inherit) and to the Spirit’s sealing as a guarantee of the inheritance.അവകാശം (avakasham)Medium — new term, proposed for translation memory; must be read as guaranteed by God’s own pledge (the Spirit, v.14), not a matter of family/caste inheritance custom.
sealed (with the Spirit)σφραγίζωsphragizōto stamp with a seal, to mark as authenticated/securedLegal marking of ownership, authenticity, and securitysealed, marked1:13 — the Holy Spirit’s sealing work as proof of belonging to God and security of salvation.മുദ്രയിട്ടു (mudraayittu) — established Malayalam Bible termHigh — new term, proposed for translation memory. മുദ്ര is also the standard Malayalam word for a ritual hand-gesture (mudra) in Hindu devotional/temple-dance practice, and for an official government stamp/seal; context must make clear this is the Holy Spirit’s personal act of securing/authenticating a believer, not a ritual gesture or a bureaucratic mark.
guarantee / down paymentἀρραβώνarrabōnearnest money, a pledge/deposit guaranteeing the full amount to comeA partial payment guaranteeing the remainder is certainguarantee, deposit, down payment, pledge, earnest1:14 — the Spirit himself is the “down payment” guaranteeing the full inheritance to come; a vivid commercial metaphor retained in established Malayalam usage.അച്ചാരം (acharam) — established Malayalam term (still used in ordinary Kerala property/marriage transactions)Medium — the everyday commercial familiarity of അച്ചാരം is an asset here (it makes the guarantee-language vivid and concrete), but must be anchored to the Spirit’s person, not treated as an abstract legal metaphor only.
power / working / might / strength (stacked terms)δύναμις / ἐνέργεια / κράτος / ἰσχύςdynamis / energeia / kratos / ischyspower / effective working / dominion-strength / strengthPaul stacks four near-synonyms in 1:19-21 for maximal rhetorical intensity describing the power that raised Christpower, working, mighty power, strengthDescribes the same resurrection-power now at work in believers (1:19-20) — directly connects “Salvation by Grace” to resurrection power, and anticipates the armor-of-God power theme in ch. 6.ശക്തി (reuse baseline power_of_god) / പ്രവർത്തനശക്തി / ബലം / ആധിപത്യബലംMedium — ശക്തി is comparatively low-risk in Malayalam per baseline; the four-term stacking should be preserved rhetorically (intensity of description) rather than collapsed into a single Malayalam word.
head (over all things, to the church)κεφαλήkephalēhead (body part); by extension, source or authorityChrist’s supreme cosmic authority AND his specific headship over the church as his bodyhead, headship1:22 — first occurrence of a term that recurs critically in ch. 4 (growth) and ch. 5 (marriage); Christ’s headship is source, life-giver, and authority combined.ശിരസ്സ് (shirassu) — established Malayalam Bible termHigh — new term, proposed for translation memory. Must be understood in its full Ephesians range (life-giving source + supreme authority), not reduced to bare hierarchical rank; foundational for the later, more sensitive household-code usage in ch. 5.
fullnessπλήρωμαplērōmathat which fills, completenessChrist’s church as the “fullness” of him who fills all in all; a term with a documented technical use in later Gnostic cosmology (the Pleroma)fullness, completeness1:23 — the church is not incidental to Christ but constitutes (in some sense) his “fullness.”പൂർണ്ണത (poornnatha)High — new term, proposed for translation memory. പൂർണ്ണത is also the Malayalam rendering used in popular Advaita Vedanta exposition for Brahman’s all-pervading completeness (“sarvam khalvidam brahma” style teaching); must be taught as Christ’s personal, relational filling of his church specifically, not an impersonal divine essence pervading all reality monistically.
rulers, authorities, power, dominionἀρχή, ἐξουσία, δύναμις, κυριότηςarchē, exousia, dynamis, kyriotēsrule, authority, power, lordshipA stacked list of ranked spiritual/angelic-demonic hierarchy, over which Christ is supremerule and authority, power and dominion1:21 — establishes the cosmic hierarchy that the “Spiritual Warfare” doctrine of ch. 6 assumes is real, personal, and already defeated by Christ.വാഴ്ചകൾ, അധികാരങ്ങൾ, ശക്തികൾ, കര്‍തൃത്വങ്ങൾ (established Malayalam Bible cluster, matching ch. 6 vocabulary)Critical — must retain a personal, defeated-yet-real spiritual hierarchy (angelic/demonic), not collapse into impersonal cosmic/astrological forces; this is the doctrinal seed of ch. 6’s spiritual warfare teaching and must be rendered identically there.

Chapter 2 (Eph 2:11–22 — vv. 1–10 treated above as core passage)

The second half of chapter 2 moves from the individual’s salvation by grace to its corporate consequence: the abolition of the Jew-Gentile divide and the creation of “one new humanity” — the doctrinal core of “Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity.”

This image carries unusual, historically grounded force in the Kerala context: some historic Kerala churches maintained literal physical partitions or separate seating reflecting caste distinctions (paralleling the very Syrian-Christian/Dalit-convert stratification baseline documents for Romans’ unity_of_jews_and_gentiles doctrine). This should be taught as a direct, concrete application of the text, not softened into a purely metaphorical or ancient-historical-only reading.
reconcile / reconciliationἀποκαταλλάσσω / καταλλαγήapokatallassō / katallagēto change from hostility to friendship, thoroughlyRestoration of relationship — both vertically (humanity to God) and horizontally (Jew to Gentile) — through the crossreconcile, reconciliation2:16 — the double reconciliation (to God AND to one another) achieved specifically “through the cross,” not through diplomacy, shared ritual, or mutual tolerance.അനുരഞ്ജനം (anuranjanam)High — new term, proposed for translation memory. Must retain the specifically cross-achieved, God-initiated nature of reconciliation; must not be flattened into a generic call for social harmony or tolerance detached from the atonement.
one new man / new humanityεἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωποςheis kainos anthrōposone new man/humanityA genuinely new corporate humanity created in Christ, not a merged coalition of the two old identities (Jew and Gentile)one new man, one new humanity, one new people2:15 — the doctrinal center of “Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity”; a third, wholly new identity superseding, not merely combining, the old ethnic categories.ഒരു പുതിയ മനുഷ്യൻ (oru puthiya manushyan)High — new term, proposed for translation memory. Must be taught as identity-transforming (a genuinely new humanity, cf. baseline’s christian_identity_in_christ doctrine), directly applicable to Kerala’s own internal Syrian-Christian/Dalit-convert and broader caste-heritage distinctions — this is not merely an ancient Jew-Gentile issue but a live category for the target audience.

holy templeναὸς ἅγιοςnaos hagiosholy sanctuaryThe inner sanctuary/dwelling-place of deity — here applied to the church corporately as God’s dwelling by the Spiritholy temple, sanctuary2:21 — the church as God’s living temple, growing and being built together; distinct from σῶμα (body) and ἐκκλησία (assembly) as complementary images for the same reality.വിശുദ്ധ മന്ദിരം (vishudha mandiram)Critical — NEVER അമ്പലം (Hindu temple; already forbidden in baseline for the general “church” entry — the same prohibition applies here with even greater force, since ναός is specifically a sanctuary/dwelling-place image). Must convey God’s personal, Spirit-indwelt presence among his gathered people, not a physical shrine housing an image or idol.

Chapter 3 (Eph 3:1–21)

Chapter 3 is Paul’s extended meditation on his own ministry of disclosing the “mystery of Christ” — the doctrinal expansion of ch. 1’s μυστήριον and ch. 2’s Jew-Gentile unity — closing with a great prayer-doxology.

Chapter 4 (Eph 4:1–32)

Chapter 4 turns from doctrine to church life: unity, the diversity of Christ-given ministry gifts for building up the body, and the ethical “put off / put on” pattern of the old and new man — directly serving both “Gifts for Building Up the Church” and “Walking in Newness of Life.”

Must be taught as a decisive change of identity accomplished in union with Christ (echoing 2:15’s “one new man” and baseline’s christian_identity_in_christ), not as a bhakti-style gradual self-purification through devotional effort, nor confused with reincarnation-adjacent renewal concepts.

Chapter 5 (Eph 5:1–33)

Chapter 5 continues the ethical “walk” section (light vs. darkness, wisdom vs. folly, Spirit-filling) and culminates in the household code for husbands and wives, presented as a living picture of Christ and the church.

imitators of Godμιμηταὶ τοῦ Θεοῦmimētai tou Theouimitators of GodBelievers called to reflect God’s own character, specifically his self-giving love as shown in Christimitators of God, followers of God5:1 — grounds Christian ethics in the imitation of God’s revealed character (love, holiness), not generic moral effort.ദൈവത്തെ അനുകരിക്കുന്നവർ (daivathe anukarikkunnavar)Medium — must be distinguished from the very different sense of “imitating a deity” familiar from Hindu devotional narrative traditions (imitating a deity’s exploits/leela); here it means imitating God’s revealed moral character, specifically sacrificial love.
sexual immorality / impurityπορνεία / ἀκαθαρσίαporneia / akatharsiaillicit sexual activity / uncleannessBroad categories of sexual sin and moral defilementsexual immorality, impurity, uncleanness5:3, 5:5 — part of the letter’s “put off” ethical vocabulary, connected to inheriting God’s kingdom (reuse baseline kingdom_of_god).ദുർന്നടപ്പ് / അശുദ്ധി (durnnadappu / ashudhi)Medium — established Malayalam Bible vocabulary.

Kerala’s charismatic/Pentecostal tradition and its folk-religious environment (e.g., theyyam ritual possession, folk-spirit affliction phenomena) both include ecstatic/trance states; Spirit-filling here must be taught as the Spirit’s sanctifying, self-controlled empowerment producing the specific described fruit (song, thanksgiving, submission), explicitly distinguished from trance-possession phenomena.
submit / submissionὑποτάσσωhypotassōto arrange under, to submitVoluntary ordering of oneself under another’s authority, modeled first on mutual submission (5:21), then specifically on the wife’s submission to the husband as the church submits to Christsubmit, be subject to5:21-24 — the doctrinal core of “Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships,” directly typological (wife:husband as church:Christ).കീഴടങ്ങുക / വിധേയപ്പെടുക (keezhadangaka / videyappeduka) — established Malayalam Bible phrase (5:21 “അന്യോന്യം കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിപ്പിൻ”)Critical — must convey voluntary, loving, Christ-modeled submission grounded in the Christ-church typology, not coercive subjugation, and must not be read as endorsing existing patriarchal, caste-linked, or economically coercive household hierarchies uncritically; requires human theologian review given the typological weight (“as the church submits to Christ”) and cultural sensitivity around gender-authority language.
head (husband as head of wife)κεφαλήkephalēhead; source/authorityExtends ch. 1’s and ch. 4’s κεφαλή vocabulary to marriage: the husband’s headship modeled specifically and only on Christ’s self-sacrificial headship of the churchhead, headship5:23 — must be read alongside 5:25’s immediate qualification (husbands must love as Christ loved the church, giving himself up) — headship defined by self-sacrifice, not privilege.ശിരസ്സ് (reuse ch. 1/4 rendering)Critical — must retain the self-sacrificial qualification (5:25) inseparably from the headship claim (5:23); rendering 5:23 without immediate reference to 5:25’s redefinition risks reading Ephesians’ headship as generic patriarchal authority rather than Christ-modeled self-giving love. Requires human theologian review.
love (as Christ loved the church)ἀγαπάωagapaōto love with self-giving, covenantal loveChrist’s sacrificial, self-giving love as the explicit model for husbands’ love of their wiveslove, love sacrificially5:25 — the defining qualifier of headship; ἀγάπη here is active self-gift (“gave himself up for her”), not romantic feeling or generic affection.സ്നേഹിക്കുക (snehikkuka)High — Malayalam distinguishes generic സ്നേഹം (affection) from romantic പ്രേമം; translator notes should make clear this is covenantal, self-sacrificial agapē love modeled precisely on the cross, not either category by itself.
great mysteryμυστήριον μέγαmystērion megagreat mysteryMarriage itself, reused from ch. 1/3’s μυστήριον vocabulary, understood as a living picture pointing to Christ and the churchgreat mystery, profound mystery5:32 — ties the household-code section back to the letter’s central μυστήριον theme, giving marriage itself sacramental theological weight.വലിയ മർമ്മം (valiya marmam) — reuse ch. 1/3 മർമ്മം renderingHigh (per ch. 1 μυστήριον entry) — same risk profile; here specifically anchored to marriage as a sign pointing beyond itself to Christ and the church, not an independent esoteric teaching about marriage.

Chapter 6 (Eph 6:1–24)

Chapter 6 completes the household code (children/parents, slaves/masters) and closes with the letter’s climactic “Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God” section — the last of the curriculum’s assigned doctrines.

Human theologian review recommended given the sensitivity.

Kerala’s folk religious landscape (across Hindu and folk-Christian practice) includes belief in evil-eye affliction (ദൃഷ്ടിദോഷം), ancestral/local spirits (ഭൂതം, പ്രേതം), astrological malefic influence (ഗ്രഹപ്പിഴ), and ritual spirit-possession practices (e.g., theyyam). This doctrine must be taught as a personal, Christ-already-victorious spiritual hierarchy engaged through God’s provided means (truth, righteousness, faith, the gospel, the Spirit, the Word, prayer) — explicitly NOT through folk-protective countermeasures (protective threads/ഏലസ്സ്, astrological remedies, ritual exorcism practices outside the church’s ordinary means of grace). Human theologian review mandatory.
