Core Glossary

Core Glossary: 1 John (English → Bodo)

This glossary lists every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from every chapter of 1 John (1-5). Terms already fixed in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked [BASELINE — REUSED EXACTLY] and must not be altered. All new terms proposed for this curriculum are marked [NEW — 1 John] and are provisional pending confirmation by a Bodo-speaking theologian, consistent with the baseline’s own practice for compound/descriptive renderings.

Notes for Phase 2 integration:

  1. All [BASELINE — REUSED] terms must be loaded directly from the existing translation_memory.json; do not re-derive or re-risk-assess them.
  2. All [NEW — 1 John] terms must be added to a curriculum-specific extension of translation_memory.json (version-incremented per the requirements document’s Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions) before Phase 2 segment translation begins, with Critical/High entries flagged for theologian review prior to first use.
  3. The three highest-priority terms for early theologian sign-off, given their combination of doctrinal centrality and cultural-collision risk, are: ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν / ὁ θεὸς φῶς ἐστίν (essence-statement grammar), δοκιμάζετε τὰ πνεύματα (spirit-testing overlap with Kherai practice), and εἴδωλον (aniconic-idolatry extension). These should be resolved before any Phase 2 translation of chapters 1, 4, or 5 proceeds.

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: ईश्वर
Transliteration: Isor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ / God is Light / God is Love
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (never use as the primary term for the biblical God; reserve strictly for describing traditional Bathou belief)
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. 1 John’s repeated identity-statements (“God is light,” 1:5; “God is love,” 4:8,16) make this term’s exclusivity even more load-bearing than in Romans, since the letter explicitly contrasts the true God against “many antichrists” (2:18) and “idols” (5:21).

Jesus

Approved rendering: जिसु
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ / Incarnation
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. 1 John repeatedly ties this name to a specific historical confession (“Jesus Christ come in the flesh,” 4:2; “Jesus is the Christ,” 5:1) that functions as the letter’s test for true versus false spirits.

Messiah

Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: Mosih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise / The Incarnation of Christ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Also renders the general title “Christ” throughout 1 John (2:1,22; 4:2; 5:1,6,20). Never one of many divine claimants recognized in the Kherai pantheon.

Son Of God

Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गोरा
Transliteration: Isornni gwra
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देवता गोरा (a lesser divine being’s son, an explicit downgrade)
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Central to 1 John’s confession formula (4:15; 5:5,10,12,20). Must not be softened to “a divine figure” or “a son among sons” given the populated Kherai pantheon’s own divine and semi-divine offspring figures.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: pobitro aatha
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits (contrast term)
Rejected alternatives: देउ (a generic spirit-being from the Bathou/Kherai pantheon, never use), बुरहा-बुरही आत्था (ancestral household spirits, never use), bare आत्था (never use alone for the Holy Spirit himself)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Must always appear in full. 1 John’s own vocabulary of testing lower-case πνεύματα (4:1-6) makes this distinction sharper here than anywhere else in the curriculum — the Holy Spirit must never be confused with the generic spirits under examination.

Father

Approved rendering: आफा
Transliteration: afa
Doctrine: Adoption / Children of God
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (reserve strictly for describing traditional belief, never for the biblical Father)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. God as personal Father, sender of the Son (4:14) and object of confident address (2:1).

Righteousness

Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dharmikota
Doctrine: Confession of Sin / Cleansing and Forgiveness of Sin
Rejected alternatives: धर्म (avoid the bare Sanskritic sense of cosmic duty imported through Brahma Dharma reform teaching)

Inherited from Romans package. Underlies 1:9’s “faithful and just [δίκαιος] to forgive” — God’s own righteous character, the ground of forgiveness upon confession.

Incarnation

Approved rendering: मानसि गुदि सोलायनाय
Transliteration: manwsi gudi solainai
Doctrine: The Incarnation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देउनि आगोर (a deity temporarily ‘descending into’ or speaking through a doudini during Kherai trance, never use)
Original: ἐν σαρκὶ ἐληλυθότα
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. The confessional test for true versus false spirits in 1 John (4:2-3) turns entirely on this doctrine. Must be sharply distinguished from the doudini’s Kherai-trance possession, in which a deity temporarily seizes and speaks through a human medium.

Resurrection

Approved rendering: जिउनाय सोलायनाय
Transliteration: jiunai solainai
Doctrine: Eternal Life (background doctrine)
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम (rebirth into a new life-cycle, absorbed into Brahma Dharma from Hindu reincarnation teaching, never use)

Inherited from Romans package. Retained because the जोनोम-forbidding logic directly governs this book’s own ‘born of God’ (γεννάω) rendering — the same forbidden root must never leak into born_of_god either.

Lord

Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: probhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बुरहा/बर’ऐ titles reserved for Bathoubwrai and Kherai-pantheon elder-deities, never use for Christ

Inherited from Romans package. Applies to any Lordship-of-Christ language occurring within 1 John’s confession passages (e.g., in connection with 5:1, 5:20’s exclusive claims).

Salvation

Approved rendering: फोरायनाय
Transliteration: phoraynai
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation / Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-derived liberation concept, never use), रैखाथि (protection from the Kherai pantheon against misfortune, never use as a stand-alone gloss)

Inherited from Romans package. Underlies फोरायग्रा (Savior, an agent-noun built on this root) and the letter’s broader rescue-vocabulary (4:14).

Grace

Approved rendering: मोफादांनाय दान
Transliteration: mwphwdangnai daan
Doctrine: God is Love / Propitiation
Rejected alternatives: दान गोरोबनाय (a reciprocal gift expecting return offering, rejected), पुण्य (Brahma Dharma merit-language, never use)

Inherited from Romans package. Directly underlies 1 John 4:10, 4:19’s unmerited, God-initiated love logic; the same reciprocal-exchange and merit risks documented in the baseline apply here with equal force.

Only Begotten Son

Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि एकमात्र गोरा
Transliteration: Isornni ekmatro gwra
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वरनि गोरा alone without the exclusivity marker (insufficient — fails to exclude rival divine-sonship claims within the Kherai pantheon)
Original: υἱὸς μονογενής
Category: Christology

Extends son_of_god with एकमात्र (“sole/only-one”). Must be taught as excluding, not merely outranking, any other claimant to divine sonship (1 John 4:9).

Advocate

Approved rendering: बिनयगिरि
Transliteration: binoigiri
Doctrine: Christ’s Ongoing Advocacy
Rejected alternatives: doudini/ओझा household-mediation vocabulary, never use
Original: παράκλητος
Category: Salvation

Built on the baseline’s intercession root (मोनसे नि थाखाय बिनयनाय) for cross-curriculum consistency. Christ’s advocacy (2:1) is a unique, once-secured, heavenly legal standing, not a repeatable ritual petition.

Savior

Approved rendering: फोरायग्रा
Transliteration: phoraygra
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Salvation

Agent noun built directly on the baseline’s Critical फोरायनाय root (4:14). No comparable personal-rescuer office exists in Bathouism or Brahma Dharma; must be taught from the ground up as naming a specific person.

Spirit Generic Tested

Approved rendering: आत्था
Transliteration: aatha
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: पबित्र आत्था (never substitute the full Holy Spirit term for this deliberately generic sense)
Original: πνεῦμα (lower-case)
Category: Pneumatology

Deliberately NOT पबित्र आत्था — bare आत्था is linguistically correct here, but this creates acute overlap with the currently-practiced Bathou/Kherai vocabulary of discerning which spirit speaks through a prophet, oracle, or doudini in trance (4:1). Must always be paired with explicit teaching that the ONLY valid test is confession of Christ’s true incarnate identity (4:2-3).

Spirit Of Truth

Approved rendering: सत्यनि आत्था
Transliteration: satyoni aatha
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Original: πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Pneumatology

Matched pair with spirit_of_error (4:6); belongs to the same acute discernment-passage risk as test_the_spirits.

Spirit Of Error

Approved rendering: भ्रमनि आत्था
Transliteration: bhromni aatha
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: any specific named spirit from the Bathou/Kherai spirit taxonomy — never equate; the distinguishing mark is doctrinal (denial of the incarnation), not ritual or genealogical
Original: πνεῦμα τῆς πλάνης
Category: Pneumatology

Matched pair with spirit_of_truth (4:6).

Test The Spirits

Approved rendering: आत्थाखौ सोलोंनाय
Transliteration: aathakhau swlwngnai
Doctrine: Testing the Spirits
Rejected alternatives: ritual-correctness, officiant-lineage, or trance-authenticity discernment criteria drawn from Kherai puja practice, never use as the criterion
Original: δοκιμάζετε τὰ πνεύματα
Category: Pneumatology

The single highest-priority discernment term in this curriculum (4:1). The ONLY valid apostolic test is confession of Christ’s true incarnate identity, displacing every ritual or experiential criterion from traditional practice.

Love Noun

Approved rendering: प्रेम
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: God is Love
Rejected alternatives: भक्ति-style reciprocal, favor-securing devotion vocabulary, never use
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Love

Governs the entire core passage (4:7-21). Every occurrence requires contextual reinforcement that this love originates in God, not in human religious performance or ritual exchange.

Love Verb

Approved rendering: प्रेम खालामनाय
Transliteration: prem khalamnai
Doctrine: God is Love / Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Rejected alternatives: भक्ति-style reciprocal devotion vocabulary, never use
Original: ἀγαπάω
Category: Love

Verbal form of प्रेम, built on Bodo’s productive verbalizing auxiliary खालामनाय (parallel to माफ खालामनाय, “to forgive”).

God Is Love Statement

Approved rendering: ईश्वर सैलेइ प्रेम
Transliteration: Isor sailei prem
Doctrine: God is Love
Rejected alternatives: a possession/quality reading (‘God has love’ or ‘God is loving’) — rejected pending theologian confirmation that the Bodo copula bears the full essence-statement force
Original: ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν
Category: God

The single highest-stakes doctrinal statement in the letter (4:8, 4:16). MUST render verbatim-identically at both occurrences. Requires direct theologian confirmation of the copula’s ontological force before wide deployment.

God Is Light Statement

Approved rendering: ईश्वर सैलेइ उजाव
Transliteration: Isor sailei ujao
Doctrine: God is Light
Rejected alternatives: or/fire-derived terms tied to the sijou plant’s five-branch cosmology, never use
Original: ὁ θεὸς φῶς ἐστίν
Category: God

Structural twin of god_is_love_statement (1:5). Must be taught as a moral/relational claim about God’s truthfulness and purity, explicitly not an identification of God with the fire-element (or) of Bathou cosmology.

Light

Approved rendering: उजाव
Transliteration: ujao
Doctrine: God is Light
Rejected alternatives: or (the sijou plant’s fire-element vocabulary), never use
Original: φῶς
Category: God

[TRANSLATOR NOTE: φῶς rendered उजाव rather than any or/fire-derived term, to avoid identifying the biblical God with the fire-element of Bathou cosmology.]

Propitiation

Approved rendering: गुनाह मायांनाय बलि
Transliteration: gunah mayangnai boli
Doctrine: Propitiation / Christ’s Atoning Sacrifice
Rejected alternatives: प्रायश्चित्त (self-performed penance) — never use, relocates the atoning action from Christ to the worshipper’s own religious performance
Original: ἱλασμός
Category: Salvation

बलि is the doctrinally correct register (a costly offering laid before a deity) precisely because such offerings are a live, currently-practiced part of Bodo religious life — but the direction must be taught as inverted: God himself provides the बलि, once, by his own initiative (2:2; 4:10), not the household offering it TO a deity.

First Loved Us

Approved rendering: सिगां
Transliteration: sigang
Doctrine: God is Love
Original: πρῶτος (ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς)
Category: Salvation

Crystallizes the letter’s entire grace-priority logic into a single memorable clause (4:19); prioritized as a memory-verse candidate precisely because its brevity risks being learned as a slogan without its doctrinal weight.

Confess Christ

Approved rendering: स्वीकार खालामनाय
Transliteration: sikar khalamnai
Doctrine: The Incarnation of Christ / Testing the Spirits
Original: ὁμολογέω (Ἰησοῦν)
Category: Christology

To publicly affirm Jesus’ identity as the Christ, Son of God, come in the flesh (2:23; 4:2-3,15; 5:1). Functionally equivalent in doctrinal weight to the baseline’s Critical Romans 10:9 Lordship confession and requires the same escalation to human theologian review at every occurrence.

Cleanse

Approved rendering: गुनाहनि सोरखां साफनाय
Transliteration: gunahni sworkhang saphnai
Doctrine: Cleansing and Forgiveness of Sin
Rejected alternatives: bare साफ alone — rejected, reserved by baseline rule for physical/ritual cleanliness only, पबित्रनाय alone — rejected, denotes the Spirit’s ongoing sanctifying work, not a once-for-all judicial cleansing
Original: καθαρίζω
Category: Sanctification

Direct tension with the baseline’s own restriction on साफ. This provisional compound retains साफ but qualifies it explicitly with “of sin’s stain” (गुनाहनि सोरखां) EVERY TIME (1:7,9), to signal judicial/moral cleansing by Christ’s blood, not ritual purification. Requires theologian sign-off before wide deployment.

Born Of God

Approved rendering: ईश्वरनिफ्राय जायनाय
Transliteration: Isornniphray jainai
Doctrine: New Birth (Born of God)
Rejected alternatives: जोनोम-based compounds (e.g., फिन जोनोम) — FORBIDDEN, this is the rebirth/reincarnation register absorbed via Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced reform teaching
Original: γεννάω ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Salvation

[TRANSLATOR NOTE: γεννάω rendered ईश्वरनिफ्राय जायनाय rather than any जोनोम-based compound.] A single, decisive, non-repeatable spiritual birth (2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1,4,18), not one turn of a cycle. Requires verbatim-consistent rendering at every occurrence.

Eternal Life

Approved rendering: अनन्त जिउ
Transliteration: anonto jiu
Doctrine: Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष-style liberation language — FORBIDDEN, per baseline
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Salvation

Full, genuine, God-given life, possessed now and consummated in the future (1:2; 2:25; 3:14-15; 5:11-13,20). Genuine conceptual gap: Bathouism has no developed eschatological life-after-death category oriented toward reconciliation with a personal God. The present-tense certainty of 5:13 (“that you may KNOW you have eternal life”) is a significant apologetic point requiring explicit ground-up teaching.

Idols

Approved rendering: मूर्ति
Transliteration: murti
Doctrine: Idolatry and Exclusive Devotion to the True God
Rejected alternatives: a narrow iconic-only reading — must be extended via mandatory teacher notes to cover Bathou’s aniconic sijou-plant devotion and the Kherai pantheon
Original: εἴδωλα
Category: Sin

Any rival object, image, plant, ritual locus, or spirit-being treated as a focus of worship, trust, or ultimate allegiance (5:21). मूर्ति narrowly denotes carved/cast image-idols, but Bathou worship of Bathoubwrai through the sijou plant is explicitly ANICONIC; teacher notes (not necessarily reader-facing text) must state this extension explicitly by name.

High Risk Terms

Sin

Approved rendering: गुनाह
Transliteration: gunah
Doctrine: Confession of Sin
Rejected alternatives: दोष (fault/blame, too weak/civic)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package. Must be distinguished from ritual impurity addressed through Bathou/Kherai cleansing rites, which restore household or community harmony rather than answering to a holy God.

Holy

Approved rendering: पबित्र
Transliteration: pobitro
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: साफ (physically clean, ritual-purity sense only)

Inherited from Romans package. Undergirds the “God is light” moral-purity claim (1:5) and सaफ’s restriction to physical/ritual cleanliness.

Faith

Approved rendering: बिश्वास
Transliteration: biswas
Doctrine: Overcoming the World
Rejected alternatives: भरोसा (generic trust, too weak alone)
Original: πίστις / πιστεύω
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. The object of बिश्वास must always be named as Jesus/Christ specifically (5:1,4-5,10,13); otherwise it risks being read as generic devotion transferable to Bathoubwrai or the wider Kherai pantheon.

Glory

Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mohima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ (adjacent)

Inherited from Romans package. Reused without modification for any glory-language occurring in 1 John’s Christological passages.

Covenant

Approved rendering: गोसाथारि
Transliteration: gwsathari
Doctrine: Fellowship with God (background doctrine)

Inherited from Romans package. Retained for any relational-covenant-bond language that may arise in teaching notes framing 1 John’s fellowship and abiding doctrines against Old Testament covenant background.

True God

Approved rendering: सोर ईश्वर
Transliteration: swr Isor
Doctrine: Idolatry and Exclusive Devotion to the True God
Rejected alternatives: subordinationist glosses that read ‘true God’ (5:20) as excluding the Son, per the Jehovah’s Witness/New World Translation pattern — never use
Original: ὁ ἀληθινός (θεός)
Category: God

In a landscape where Bathoubwrai, the Kherai pantheon, and Brahma Dharma’s reformed monotheism all present rival claims to ultimate reality, this closing designation is a direct, exclusive apologetic claim and must not be softened into a comparative or relative sense.

Flesh

Approved rendering: गुदि
Transliteration: gudi
Doctrine: The Incarnation of Christ
Original: σάρξ
Category: Christology

Component of the incarnation compound (मानसि गुदि सोलायनाय); used consistently across two senses — Christ’s real body (4:2) vs. sinful bodily desire (2:16) — disambiguated by context.

Manifested

Approved rendering: दिन्थिनाय
Transliteration: dinthinai
Doctrine: The Incarnation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: फोराय- root compounds (reserved for the Critical फोरायनाय/salvation term), never use for manifestation
Original: φανερόω
Category: Christology

Used for the Son’s incarnation being made visible (1:2; 3:5,8) and for God’s love being manifested (4:9). Must be distinguished from a deity’s temporary self-disclosure through doudini possession.

Antichrist

Approved rendering: मसीहनि बिरोधी
Transliteration: Mosihni birodhi
Doctrine: Antichrist and False Teaching
Rejected alternatives: generic evil-spirit vocabulary from the Bathou/Kherai spirit taxonomy, never use
Original: ἀντίχριστος
Category: Christology

A specific theological category — denial of Christ’s true incarnate identity (2:18,22; 4:3) — not a generic malevolent being.

Parousia Second Coming

Approved rendering: मसीहनि फिन फैनाय
Transliteration: Mosihni phin phoinai
Doctrine: Christ’s Second Coming
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम-based compounds — FORBIDDEN, this is the rebirth/reincarnation register absorbed via Brahma Dharma
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology

[TRANSLATOR NOTE: फिन here means only “again” (2:28); confirm this is never confused with the forbidden फिन जोनोम compound, despite the shared morpheme.]

Darkness

Approved rendering: अंधकार
Transliteration: andhokar
Doctrine: God is Light
Original: σκοτία
Category: Ethics

Purely moral/relational sphere of sin, falsehood, and separation from God (1:5-6; 2:9,11); not a physical or seasonal category.

Perfected

Approved rendering: पूरा जानाय
Transliteration: pura janai
Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Rejected alternatives: Brahma Dharma-adjacent self-achieved moral perfection framing, avoid
Original: τελειόω
Category: Sanctification

τελειόω (2:5; 4:12,17-18) describes love reaching its God-given shape in community, not an individual’s accumulated moral attainment.

Fear

Approved rendering: गिबि
Transliteration: gibi
Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Original: φόβος
Category: Assurance

Anxious dread of punishment/condemnation, which perfect love casts out (4:18). Anxious fear of displeasing or being harmed by unpredictable spirit-powers is a live, motivating force in traditional Bathou household and Kherai religious life; this passage should be taught as making direct apologetic contact with that lived experience.

Abide

Approved rendering: थाखानाय
Transliteration: thakhanai
Doctrine: Fellowship with God
Rejected alternatives: spirit/ancestral-dwelling vocabulary tied to a household, the sijou plant, or a ritual site, never use
Original: μένω
Category: Sanctification

The letter’s most theologically loaded and most frequent verb (~24 occurrences). Must be taught as an ongoing, personal, covenantal relationship with the one true God, categorically distinct from a spirit or ancestral presence dwelling in a physical locus. Requires verbatim-consistent rendering at every occurrence.

Brother

Approved rendering: बाई
Transliteration: bai
Doctrine: Fellowship with One Another / Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Original: ἀδελφός
Category: Church

Strong Bodo clan (afad) kinship structures make “brother” a category with deep blood-lineage weight; teaching must make explicit that ἀδελφός designates the whole believing community across clan lines (2:9-11; 3:10-17; 4:20-21).

Confess Sin

Approved rendering: स्वीकार खालामनाय
Transliteration: sikar khalamnai
Doctrine: Confession of Sin
Original: ὁμολογέω (ἁμαρτίας)
Category: Sin

To acknowledge one’s sin before God, receiving his faithful and just forgiveness (1:9). Same verb as confess_christ, but with sin, not Christ’s identity, as its object — the two senses must never be flattened together.

Sin Unto Death

Approved rendering: मोदोमाव थांनाय गुनाह
Transliteration: mwdwmau thangnai gunah
Doctrine: Sin Unto Death and Apostasy
Rejected alternatives: curse-consequence/taboo-violation-and-ritual-remedy framing, never use
Original: ἁμαρτία πρὸς θάνατον
Category: Sin

A settled state of persistent, unrepentant rejection of Christ (5:16). Maps disturbingly easily onto an existing folk-religious category; must be taught explicitly as NOT a magical curse-consequence.

Children Of God

Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि फिसा
Transliteration: Isornni phisa
Doctrine: Children of God / Sonship
Original: τέκνα θεοῦ
Category: Salvation

Believers as God’s own organically-born children (3:1-2,10). Complements, but must not be collapsed into, the baseline’s legal-adoption term (गोसोआव फैनाय): Romans emphasizes legal placement into inheritance rights; John emphasizes organic new birth from God’s own life.

Seed Of God

Approved rendering: बेंसे
Transliteration: bense
Doctrine: Children of God / Sonship
Rejected alternatives: a literal genealogical reading — must be flagged explicitly as deliberate scriptural metaphor, not literal lineage
Original: σπέρμα αὐτοῦ
Category: Salvation

Reuses the baseline’s established बेंसे root from दाऊदनि बेंसे (“seed of David”), applied here (3:9) metaphorically to a spiritual, God-given generative principle.

Confidence Assurance

Approved rendering: निश्चय
Transliteration: nishchoy
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation
Original: παρρησία
Category: Assurance

Reuses the baseline’s assurance-of-salvation term. Must be grounded explicitly in Christ’s finished atoning work (2:28; 3:21; 4:17; 5:14), never in an accumulated record of ritual offerings, purifications, or merit.

Testimony

Approved rendering: साक्ष्य
Transliteration: sakhyo
Doctrine: The Testimony of God Concerning the Son
Rejected alternatives: doudini trance-testimony framing, avoid
Original: μαρτυρία / μαρτυρέω
Category: Christology

Authoritative eyewitness or divine self-testimony to Christ’s identity (1:2; 4:14; 5:6-11). God’s own self-testimony (5:9) is a unique, self-authenticating category, distinct from any human witness or ritual attestation.

Lay Down Life

Approved rendering: जिउ होनाय
Transliteration: jiu honai
Doctrine: Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Rejected alternatives: votive/animal-sacrifice offering-to-a-deity framing, avoid — the direction and purpose in 1 John are opposite
Original: τίθημι τὴν ψυχήν
Category: Ethics

Sacrificial self-giving unto death, modeled on Christ’s own death and required in the believer’s love for the brethren (3:16).

Overcome Victory

Approved rendering: जिनाय
Transliteration: jinai
Doctrine: Overcoming the World
Rejected alternatives: militant/political conquest framing — must be avoided given the Bodoland Territorial Region’s recent history of ethnic-political armed struggle
Original: νικάω
Category: Assurance

Spiritual victory over the world, achieved through faith, not human strength (2:13-14; 4:4; 5:4-5).

World Opposed System

Approved rendering: दुनिया
Transliteration: duniya
Doctrine: The World and Its Desires
Original: κόσμος (sense: system in rebellion against God)
Category: Ethics

The organized system of human values in rebellion against God (2:15-17; 4:4-5; 5:19). 1 John’s use of κόσμος in two opposed senses within the same short letter is a genuine translation-clarity challenge; every occurrence must be sense-flagged, never assumed settled from a single prior instance.

Water Blood Spirit

Approved rendering: दुइ, रं, आरो पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: dwi, rwng, aru pobitro aatha
Doctrine: The Testimony of God Concerning the Son
Rejected alternatives: independently-efficacious ritual-purification framing for ‘water’, avoid
Original: τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸ αἷμα καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα
Category: Christology

The three corroborating witnesses to the Son’s identity (5:6-8). Water is a live ritual substance in Bathou/Kherai purification practice; must be taught as purely testimonial reference to Christ’s baptism, not independently efficacious.

Medium Risk Terms

Law

Approved rendering: बिथान
Transliteration: bithan
Doctrine: Distinguishing Children of God from Children of the Devil
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि नियम (Brahma Dharma’s own codified religious-conduct rules, avoid as the primary gloss)

Inherited from Romans package. Underlies ἀνομία/“lawlessness” (3:4) as violation of God’s revealed law; must remain distinct from Christ’s relational ἐντολή (commandment).

Ought Obligated

Approved rendering: गोनांथि
Transliteration: gonanthi
Doctrine: Love for the Brethren as Evidence of New Birth
Original: ὀφείλω
Category: Ethics

A moral debt/necessity to love one another (4:11), incurred by having already received God’s prior love — gratitude-driven, not merit-generating.

Transliteration: saja
Doctrine: Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
Original: κόλασις
Category: Eschatology

The pain/consequence anticipated by fear of judgment (4:18).

Approved rendering: जिउनि राव
Transliteration: jiuni rao
Doctrine: The Incarnation of Christ (background)
Original: ὁ λόγος τῆς ζωῆς
Category: Scripture

A specific, historical, eyewitness-verified message (1:1), not an oral tradition of unfixed authority (Bathou) nor a body of reform literature (Brahma Dharma). Reuses राव (word/declaration) already present in the baseline’s justification compound.

Commandment

Approved rendering: आदेश
Transliteration: adesh
Doctrine: Obedience to God’s Commandments
Rejected alternatives: बिथान substituted as the primary gloss — rejected, बिथान is reserved for the Mosaic covenant-code as a whole, Brahma Dharma’s codified conduct-rule vocabulary, avoid
Original: ἐντολή
Category: Ethics

Christ’s own relational directive to love (2:7-11; 3:23; 4:21), received directly from him — distinct from बिथान and from reform-movement conduct codes.

Faithful Trustworthy

Approved rendering: बिश्वासी
Transliteration: biswasi

Original: πιστός
Category: God

God’s own reliable, promise-keeping character (1:9), distinct from πίστις/बिश्वास (the trust believers exercise).

Transliteration: bithan langnai
Doctrine: Distinguishing Children of God from Children of the Devil
Rejected alternatives: ritual-taboo-violation framing, avoid

Category: Sin

Sin defined technically as violation of God’s revealed law (3:4), not ritual impurity or village taboo requiring ritual remedy.

Liar

Approved rendering: मैथाइगिरि
Transliteration: maithaigiri
Doctrine: Antichrist and False Teaching / Love for the Brethren
Rejected alternatives: softened terms for ‘mistaken’ or ‘inconsistent’ — rejected, must preserve the term’s rhetorical bluntness
Original: ψεύστης
Category: Sin

A blunt, direct designation for one who speaks falsehood (2:22; 4:20).

Devil

Approved rendering: शैतान
Transliteration: shaitan

Rejected alternatives: generic nature-spirit/ancestral-spirit vocabulary from the Bathou/Kherai taxonomy, avoid
Original: διάβολος / ὁ πονηρός

The personal, defeated spiritual enemy who has sinned from the beginning (3:8,10); distinct from the diffuse, largely amoral population of nature/ancestral spirits managed through Bathou/Kherai ritual practice.

Transliteration: duniya
Doctrine: The Incarnation of Christ (4:9 sense)
Original: κόσμος (sense: object of God’s love)
Category: Salvation

Humanity generally, as the object and destination of the Son’s sending (4:9). Same Bodo word as world_opposed_system; must be sense-flagged at every occurrence.

Transliteration: gudini khamw

The conscience’s self-accusation before God (3:20-21); distinguished from fear of a spirit’s displeasure or an ancestral curse.

Day Of Judgment

Low Risk Terms

Fellowship

Approved rendering: गोसो जोंथानाय
Transliteration: gwsw jwnthanai
Doctrine: Fellowship with God / Fellowship with One Another
Original: κοινωνία
Category: Church
