Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Luke — English → Bodo
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning the core passage (Luke 4:16-21) and all 24 chapters. Per the hard project rule, any term already recorded in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json is reused verbatim (marked “Reuse — Romans TM” in the Source column); genuinely new Luke-specific terms are marked “New — Luke” and are candidates for addition to translation_memory.json in Phase 2 with the risk tiers below.

C. Chapters Explicitly Reviewed With No New Theological Vocabulary Beyond Sections Noted
All 24 chapters of Luke contain load-bearing theological vocabulary (see Part 2 of 07_semantic_analysis.md); no chapter is without doctrinal content. Chapters with the lightest new-term load — Chapter 20 (mostly reuses resurrection, covenant, and Lordship vocabulary already established), Chapter 21 (mostly reuses kingdom, redemption, and Scripture-authority vocabulary), and Chapter 23 (mostly reuses cross, forgiveness, and paradise vocabulary from Chapter 22’s cluster) — are noted here explicitly as reviewed in full, with their few genuinely new items (cornerstone, Caesar/God distinction, paradise, human-spirit φαμ) captured individually above rather than omitted.
D. Cross-Reference to Romans Baseline Consistency Rules
Per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (Theological Consistency Rules Across Documents), the following Luke passages now join the baseline’s “must render identically across all documents” list for Phase 2:
- Luke 4:16-21 (the core passage; parallels the weight the baseline places on Romans 1:16-17 as thesis statement)
- Luke 19:9-10 (“today salvation…to seek and save the lost”)
- Luke 22:19-20 (Last Supper words of institution)
- Luke 24:46-49 (Great Commission / power from on high)
Critical Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: मोफादांनाय दान
Transliteration: mwphwdangnai daan
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: दान गोरोबनाय (reciprocal gift, rejected), पुण्य (Brahma Dharma merit-language, never use)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. In narrative contexts (Luke 1:30, Mary ‘found favor’) the sense is God’s kind regard, distinct from but consistent with the fuller Pauline doctrinal sense already fixed in the baseline; must resist both the Bathou/Kherai reciprocal-offering reading and Brahma Dharma’s पुण्य reading.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dharmikota
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: धर्म (avoid the bare Sanskritic cosmic-duty sense)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Luke 1:6 (Zechariah/Elizabeth) and 23:47 (the centurion’s confession of Jesus as righteous/innocent) both use this term; must not collapse into Brahma Dharma’s reformed-conduct sense of धर्म.
Justification
Approved rendering: धार्मिक होनाय राव
Transliteration: dharmik honai rao
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: गुनाहनि माफ (forgiveness alone, too narrow)
Original: δικαιωθεὶς (δικαίωσις)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Luke 18:14 (‘this man went down to his house justified’) is Luke’s sole occurrence and anticipates Paul’s Romans argument; render identically to the baseline term with zero deviation.
Salvation
Approved rendering: फोरायनाय
Transliteration: phoraynai
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (Brahma Dharma liberation, never use), रैखाथि (Kherai protection, never use)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Luke additionally uses the same Greek root (σῴζω) for physical healing without linguistic distinction (7:50; 8:48; 17:19; 18:42) — a genuine Lukan feature without a Romans parallel; see saved_healed_dual_sense entry below for the required teaching note.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि राज्य
Transliteration: Isornni rajyo
Doctrine: Kingdom of God Present and Future
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package verbatim (translation and transliteration unchanged); RISK TIER ELEVATED from Medium (Romans) to CRITICAL for this Luke curriculum given the doctrine’s sheer frequency and doctrinal density across the whole book (4:43; 8:1,10; 9:2,62; 10:9,11; 11:20; 13:18-30; 17:20-21; 19:11-27; 21:1-36; 22:16-18; 23:42) and the live territorial-political sensitivity of ‘kingdom’ language in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Jesus
Approved rendering: जिसु
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Follows the established Bodo Bible form; verify against a current printed copy before finalizing.
God
Approved rendering: ईश्वर
Transliteration: Isor
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (never use as the primary term for the biblical God)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Addressed throughout Luke as Father, invoked by Mary, Zechariah, and Simeon; never बाथौबुरै.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: pobitro aatha
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History
Rejected alternatives: देउ (generic spirit-being, never use), बुरहा-बुरही आत्था (ancestral household spirits, never use)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim; always in full. Luke’s repeated, visible ‘filling’ of individuals (1:15,35,41,67; 3:22; 4:1,18; 11:13; 12:10; 24:49) is the book’s single largest comparative-religion risk against Kherai-trance possession; see filled_with_holy_spirit below.
Father
Approved rendering: आफा
Transliteration: afa
Doctrine: Prayer and Dependence on God
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (reserve strictly for describing traditional belief, never for the biblical Father)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Addressed by Jesus in the Lord’s Prayer (11:2), Gethsemane (22:42), and from the cross (23:34,46).
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: probhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बर’ऐ/बुरहा (Bathoubwrai/Kherai elder-titles, never use)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Applied to Jesus by angels (2:11), the crowds (19:38), and in the Psalm 110 debate (20:41-44); never रендер with बर’ऐ/बुरहा.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गोरा
Transliteration: Isornni gwra
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देवता गोरा (a lesser divine being’s son, an explicit downgrade)
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Declared at the annunciation (1:32,35), the baptism (3:22,38), the Transfiguration (9:35), and confessed under interrogation (22:70); never one lesser spirit-being’s offspring among the populated Bathou pantheon.
Messiah
Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: mosih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise and Anointing
Original: Χριστός / מָשִׁיחַ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Confessed by Peter (9:20) and under interrogation (22:67), recognized as necessarily suffering and entering glory (24:26,46); never one of several deities/spirit-mediators in the Bathou pantheon.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: जिउनाय सोलायनाय
Transliteration: jiunai solainai
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम (rebirth/reincarnation, never use)
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Foretold repeatedly (9:22) and narrated at the empty tomb (24:1-8); the Sadducees’ seven-brothers hypothetical (20:27-38) is specifically vulnerable to a cyclical-rebirth misreading. Note: also used carefully at 8:49-56 (Jairus’s daughter) which is a resuscitation, not the final resurrection reality — flag for translator/teacher note distinguishing the two.
Forgiveness Of Sins
Approved rendering: गुनाहनि माफनाय
Transliteration: gunahni mafnai
Doctrine: Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins
Rejected alternatives: गुनाह गोयाव सोलायनाय (mere behavioral reform, too weak)
Original: ἄφεσις ἁμαρτιῶν
Category: Repentance
New — Luke. The single most load-bearing recurring soteriological phrase outside the core passage (1:77; 3:3; 5:20-24; 7:47-49; 17:3-4; 23:34; 24:47); render identically at every occurrence; distinct from Bathou/Kherai household purification rites, which restore ritual/social harmony rather than reconcile a sinner to a holy God.
Anointed
Approved rendering: अभिषेक जानाय
Transliteration: obhishek janai
Doctrine: Messianic Promise and Anointing
Rejected alternatives: तेल सोदोबनाय (bare ritual oiling, too generic)
Original: ἔχρισέν (χρίω)
Category: Christology
New — Luke (4:18). The etymological hinge to मसीह (Messiah); must be taught as the unique, once-for-all messianic commissioning of Jesus, not a generic ritual consecration comparable to a doudini’s ritual preparation for Kherai trance.
Spirit Of The Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभुनि पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: probhuni pobitro aatha
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History
Rejected alternatives: bare आत्था/देउ, FORBIDDEN
Original: πνεῦμα Κυρίου
Category: God
New — Luke (4:18). Built from two already-Critical baseline terms (प्रभु, पबित्र आत्था); never abbreviate, which would place this alongside the many nature- and ancestor-spirits of the Bathou/Kherai pantheon.
Scripture
Approved rendering: पबित्र सास्त्र
Transliteration: pobitro sastro
Doctrine: Inspiration and Authority of Scripture
Original: γέγραπται / βιβλίον / γραφή
Category: Scripture and Prophecy
New — Luke (4:4,8,17-21; 24:27,32,44-45). Bathou tradition is entirely oral with no fixed canon; Brahma Dharma produced its own separate 1912 reform literature; the fixed, God-breathed, closed-canon category must be taught from the ground up, not assumed as a shared cultural given.
Son Of Man
Approved rendering: मानसिनि गोरा
Transliteration: manwsini gwra
Doctrine: Son of Man
Rejected alternatives: देउनि गोरा (a deity’s son among many, downgrading, rejected)
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Category: Christology
New — Luke (5:24; 6:5,22; 7:34; 9:22,26,44,58; 12:8,10,40; 17:22-30; 18:8,31; 19:10; 21:27,36; 22:22,48,69; 24:7). Distinct from and complementary to ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God); never softened toward a deity’s temporary human manifestation resembling Kherai-trance embodiment, where the host’s own identity recedes during ritual.
Cross
Approved rendering: क्रुस
Transliteration: krus
Doctrine: The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Original: σταυρός
Category: Discipleship
New — Luke (9:23; 14:27; 23:21,23,26,33). Standard regional Bible-translation transliteration convention; the instrument of Jesus’s execution and the emblem of costly daily self-denial.
Kingdom Has Come Near
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि राज्य रोखा जानाय
Transliteration: Isornni rajyo rokha janai
Doctrine: The Kingdom of God Present and Future
Original: ἤγγικεν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
New — Luke (10:9,11; 11:20). The single most important Kingdom-doctrine phrase in the book; must convey genuine present in-breaking without collapsing into either a purely future hope or a territorial-political claim.
Kingdom In Your Midst
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि राज्य नोंथांनि गुवारसे थानाय
Transliteration: Isornni rajyo nongthangni guwarse thanai
Doctrine: The Kingdom of God Present and Future
Original: ἐντὸς ὑμῶν
Category: Kingdom
New — Luke (17:20-21). Must be distinguished both from any observable, dramatic sign (as one might expect from a Kherai puja trance-manifestation, explicitly denied by the text) and from a merely inward, private, individualistic reading.
Power From On High
Approved rendering: सैथाय निफ्राय सक्ति
Transliteration: saithai nifray sakti
Doctrine: Ascension and Great Commission
Rejected alternatives: ओखrangनि सक्ति (FORBIDDEN — Bathou sky-cosmology-element collision)
Original: δύναμιν ἐξ ὕψους
Category: God
New — Luke (24:49). ‘On high’ must never be rendered with ओखrang, the Bodo word for sky, since ओखrang is explicitly one of the five cosmological elements represented by the sijou plant’s branches in Bathou household worship.
Virgin
Approved rendering: कुवारि
Transliteration: kuwari
Doctrine: Incarnation and Virgin Birth
Original: παρθένος
Category: Christology
New — Luke (1:27,34). Must be taught as more than social unmarried status; it is the ground of the Incarnation doctrine’s uniqueness.
Filled With Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्थाजों दबथानाय
Transliteration: pobitro aathajw dabathanai
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History
Original: ἐπλήσθη πνεύματος ἁγίου
Category: God
New — Luke (1:15,41,67; 4:1). This exact phenomenon — a human being visibly ‘filled’ and speaking under a spirit’s influence — is precisely what a doudini experiences during Kherai trance-possession, making this the single most important comparative-religion collision point in Luke’s Gospel; must be taught explicitly and repeatedly as producing coherent, Scripture-saturated, doctrinally content-full prophetic speech offered to the one true God, not oracular trance-utterance mediating the Kherai pantheon.
Redemption
Approved rendering: दाम होजानाय फोरायनाय
Transliteration: dam hojanai phoraynai
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Rejected alternatives: फोरायनाय alone (loses ransom-price nuance)
Original: λύτρωσις / ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
New — Luke (1:68; 2:38; 21:28). Provisional compound distinguishing this ransom-price nuance from फोरायनाय alone, since neither Bathou reciprocal-offering logic nor Brahma Dharma’s merit-ethic has a ready ‘ransom paid on my behalf’ category; reconfirm with a Bodo-speaking theologian before wide deployment. At 21:28 the sense shifts from inaugurated (Ch.1-2) to consummated eschatological redemption — flag for translator note.
Savior
Approved rendering: फोरायग्रा
Transliteration: phoraigra
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Salvation
New — Luke (1:47,69,71,77; 2:11). Agentive form of the baseline’s Critical फोरायनाय; matches the same risk tier.
Seek And Save The Lost
Approved rendering: नागिरनाय आरो फोरायनाय
Transliteration: nagirnai aro phoraynai
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Original: ζητῆσαι καὶ σῶσαι τὸ ἀπολωλός
Category: Salvation
New — Luke (19:10). Arguably the single most important mission-statement verse in the whole Gospel; must integrate, without loss, मानसिनि गोरा (Son of Man), हारायनाय (lost), and फोरायनाय (save) exactly as established elsewhere.
Saved Healed Dual Sense
Approved rendering: फोरायनाय
Transliteration: phoraynai
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation through Faith
Original: σέσωκέν σε (σῴζω)
Category: Salvation
New — Luke (7:50; 8:48; 17:19; 18:42). Reuses the baseline’s फोरायनाय, but flags a genuinely important exegetical feature unique to Luke: unlike Romans’ narrow soteriological σωτηρία, Luke repeatedly uses the same Greek root (σῴζω) for bodily healing. Every occurrence must be rendered identically with an accompanying teaching note explaining the deliberate double meaning.
New Covenant
Approved rendering: नबा गोसाथारि
Transliteration: noba gwsathari
Doctrine: New Covenant in Christ’s Blood
Original: καινὴ διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
New — Luke (22:20). Brahma Dharma explicitly presented itself, in 1912, as a ‘new,’ Sanskritized-reform renewal of Bodo religious identity; ‘new covenant’ language risks being heard as another reform movement’s rebranding rather than God’s own once-for-all, blood-sealed covenant. Must be taught explicitly, not left to the adjective ‘new’ alone.
Body Given
Approved rendering: गुदि
Transliteration: gudi
Doctrine: New Covenant in Christ’s Blood
Original: σῶμα διδόμενον
Category: Christology
New — Luke (22:19). Built on the baseline’s incarnation-root मानसि गुदि सोलायनाय; part of the most consequential comparative-religion flag in the curriculum (see blood).
Blood
Approved rendering: थैसों
Transliteration: thoisong
Doctrine: New Covenant in Christ’s Blood
Original: αἷμα
Category: Christology
New — Luke (22:20). PROVISIONAL — verify against a printed Bodo Bible copy. Kherai puja and broader Bathou ritual practice historically include animal blood offerings presented to Bathoubwrai and the Kherai pantheon to secure protection and favor; Christ’s once-for-all self-giving must be taught with explicit, sustained contrast against this sacrificial-offering framework. Human theologian review is MANDATORY for every occurrence.
Crucifixion
Approved rendering: क्रुसाव लाग्रनाय
Transliteration: krusao lagrnai
Doctrine: New Covenant in Christ’s Blood
Original: σταυρόω
Category: Christology
New — Luke (23:21,23,26,33). Standard convention across regional Bible translation traditions; the central atoning event of the whole book.
Worship Of Risen Christ
Approved rendering: आराधना खालामनाय
Transliteration: aradhana khalamnai
Doctrine: Ascension and Great Commission
Rejected alternatives: पूजा (FORBIDDEN — literal name of the Kherai ritual itself)
Original: προσκυνέω
Category: Christology
New — Luke (24:52). The more common word पूजा is the literal name of the Kherai puja ritual itself; rendering the disciples’ worship of the risen Christ with पूजा would directly and unambiguously equate Christian worship of Christ with the specific ritual-offering practice made to Bathoubwrai and the Kherai pantheon. आराधना (a devotional-adoration register loanword, less tied to the specific named ritual) is strongly preferred and requires explicit theologian confirmation before wide deployment.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: मंगल खबर
Transliteration: mangal khabor
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: सुसमाचार (Hindi loan, avoid as default)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. In Luke this news is explicitly announced ‘to the poor’ (4:18) and ‘to all nations’ (24:47); must not be softened into a generic religious-improvement message resembling Brahma Dharma’s own 1912 reform rhetoric.
Faith
Approved rendering: बिश्वास
Transliteration: biswas
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: भरोसा (generic trust, too weak alone)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. The object of faith must always be specified as Jesus; Luke repeatedly links faith to healing and salvation together (7:50; 8:48; 17:19; 18:42) — see saved_healed_dual_sense.
Called
Approved rendering: फिनायाव
Transliteration: phinaiyao
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: मिनतिनाय (a plea/invitation, too weak)
Original: κλητός / καλέω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Must be distinguished from a doudini being ritually ‘called’/seized by a deity during Kherai trance; God’s call in Luke (e.g., 14:13,21; 19:10) is a purposeful, relational summons, never a possession event.
Calling
Approved rendering: फिनायनि सिम
Transliteration: phinaini sim
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Kept structurally parallel to फिनायाव for teaching consistency.
Holy
Approved rendering: पबित्र
Transliteration: pobitro
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: साफ (physical/ritual cleanliness only)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Used of the Spirit, of Jesus (1:35), and recognized even by unclean spirits (4:34); साफ remains reserved for the narrower ritual sense, distinct from Kherai puja’s own purification rites.
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mohima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Seen by the shepherds (2:9), sung by angels (2:14), revealed at the Transfiguration (9:31-32); avoid metaphors evoking a doudini’s trance-radiance.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सक्ति
Transliteration: Isornni sakti
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: देउनि सक्ति (doudini trance-power, never use)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Active in Jesus’s conception (1:35), ministry (4:14,36; 5:17; 6:19), and self-testimony before the Sanhedrin (22:69); categorically distinct from the ritual/mediumistic power attributed to a doudini’s Kherai-trance state.
Sin
Approved rendering: गुनाह
Transliteration: gunah
Doctrine: Universal Human Sinfulness and Need for Grace
Rejected alternatives: दोष (fault/blame, too weak/civic)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. The condition addressed by John’s baptism (3:3) and forgiven repeatedly in Jesus’s ministry (5:20-24; 7:37-49); distinguish from ritual impurity addressed through Bathou/Kherai household cleansing rites.
Covenant
Approved rendering: गोसाथारि
Transliteration: gwsathari
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant and Messianic Lineage
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Invoked in the Benedictus (1:72) and reinterpreted in Christ’s blood at the Last Supper (22:20); see new_covenant below for the Ch.22 compound built on this root.
Seed Of David
Approved rendering: दाऊदनि बेंसे
Transliteration: Daudni bense
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant and Messianic Lineage
Original: σπέρμα Δαυίδ / οἶκος Δαυίδ
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Affirmed at Jesus’s birth (1:32,69; 2:4,11) and confessed by blind Bartimaeus (18:38-39); resonates with the Bodo cultural emphasis on clan (afad) lineage.
Providence
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सामलानाय
Transliteration: Isornni samlanai
Doctrine: Prayer and Dependence on God
Rejected alternatives: भागी (fate, never use)
Original: πρόνοια (cf. Luke 12:6-7, 21:18, 22:42)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Seen in the sparrows’ worth (12:6-7) and Jesus’s own submission in Gethsemane (22:42), the sharpest test case in the whole book for this term; never भागी.
Abba
Approved rendering: अब्बा
Transliteration: Abba
Doctrine: Prayer and Dependence on God
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. NOTE: the transliterated form ‘Abba’ itself occurs in Mark 14:36, not in Luke’s parallel Gethsemane account (22:42) or Lord’s Prayer (11:2), which use only ‘Father’ (आफा); retained here for cross-Synoptic teaching consistency on Father-intimacy vocabulary, not because the word occurs in Luke’s own text.
Repentance
Approved rendering: मन बदलनाय
Transliteration: mon bodolnai
Doctrine: Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins
Rejected alternatives: धर्मीय सुधार-भावेरनाय (Brahma Dharma ‘religious reform’ framing, rejected)
Original: μετάνοια
Category: Repentance
New — Luke. A fundamental, individual, God-ward reorientation of mind and direction (3:3,8; 5:32; 13:1-5; 15:7,10; 17:3-4; 24:47), not participation in Brahma Dharma’s own institutional 1912 reform project of Sanskritized religious purity.
Poor
Approved rendering: गरीब
Transliteration: gorib
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Original: πτωχός
Category: Poverty and Marginalization
New — Luke. Named as the primary addressees of the gospel (4:18; 6:20; 7:22; 14:13,21; 16:19-31; 18:22; 21:1-4); cuts against both Bathou prosperity-ritual logic (wealth as favor-marker) and Brahma Dharma’s karma-ethic (poverty as demerit) — must be taught explicitly as favor apart from merit or ritual standing.
Liberty Release
Approved rendering: मुक्ति
Transliteration: mukti
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Rejected alternatives: फोरायनाय (rejected here to avoid conflating this-worldly release with eschatological salvation)
Original: ἄφεσις
Category: Poverty and Marginalization
New — Luke (4:18). FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION BOUNDARY: shares its root with the forbidden मोक्ष (Brahma Dharma’s liberation concept); must be tightly bounded to this-worldly release from literal captivity/oppression and never allowed to drift toward a मोक्ष-style liberation-from-existence reading. The underlying Greek ἄφεσις is the same word later rendered ‘forgiveness’ (गुनाहनि माफनाय, 3:3/24:47); this wordplay is lost across two Bodo words and requires a bridging teaching note.
Acceptable Year Of The Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभुनि दानाय बोसोर
Transliteration: probhuni danai boisor
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Original: ἐνιαυτὸν Κυρίου δεκτόν
Category: Kingdom
New — Luke (4:19). A genuine conceptual gap directly alluding to the Levitical Jubilee year; neither Bathou ritual life nor Brahma Dharma’s reform calendar has an analogous structural, periodic, divinely-decreed debt/bondage reset. Must be taught from the Old Testament Jubilee background up, comparable in kind to the baseline’s treatment of covenant.
Synagogue
Approved rendering: जुहुदीनि जमाखान्थि
Transliteration: juhudini jamakhanthi
Doctrine: Inspiration and Authority of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: नमासोलि (Bathou/Kherai ritual shrine-site, FORBIDDEN per baseline church note)
Original: συναγωγή
Category: Church
New — Luke (4:16,20,33,44; 6:6; 13:10). Never नमासोलि; a synagogue is a covenant-community assembly-house, not a shrine where offerings are made to a deity.
Fulfilled
Approved rendering: सिद्ध जानाय
Transliteration: siddho janai
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: πεπλήρωται (πληρόω)
Category: Scripture and Prophecy
New — Luke (1:20; 4:21; 18:31; 21:22,24; 24:44). Matches the risk tier the Romans baseline already assigns to Fulfillment of Prophecy generally; must not be assimilated to Brahma Dharma’s own progressive-reform historical narrative.
Compassion
Approved rendering: गोसोमोन जाबनाय
Transliteration: gwswmwn jabnai
Doctrine: Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Original: ἐσπλαγχνίσθη (σπλαγχνίζομαι)
Category: Compassion and Fellowship
New — Luke (7:13; 10:33; 15:20). A deliberate Lukan pattern; must convey inward, personal, self-giving movement of feeling, not a ritual gesture of pity performed for social credit.
Mercy
Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: doya
Doctrine: Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Compassion and Fellowship
New — Luke (1:50,54,58,72,78; 6:36; 10:37; 17:13; 18:38-39). Celebrated in the Magnificat/Benedictus and commanded toward enemies/neighbors; must be distinguished from a transactional pity expecting a return offering, the reciprocal logic of Bathou/Kherai exchange.
Disciple
Approved rendering: सिष्य
Transliteration: sishyo
Doctrine: The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Original: μαθητής
Category: Discipleship
New — Luke (5:11,27-28; 6:13,17,20,40; 9:1-6,57-62; 14:26-33; 18:22-23). Must be distinguished from the guru-śiṣya devotional pupilage familiar from Hindu tradition and reinforced by Brahma Dharma’s own reform pedagogy; a disciple of Jesus has left everything in total, exclusive allegiance to a Lord who saves, not a pupil pursuing personal enlightenment or merit.
Take Up Cross Daily
Approved rendering: नोंथांनि क्रुस देंगोन-देंगोन लाबोनाय
Transliteration: nongthangni krus dengon-dengon labwnai
Doctrine: The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Original: ἄρας τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ καθ’ ἡμέραν
Category: Discipleship
New — Luke (9:23; 14:27). Foundational to the Cost of Discipleship doctrine; distinguish from a single ritual-sacrifice event by stressing the daily, repeated aspect.
Sinner
Approved rendering: गुनाहगार मानुष
Transliteration: gunahgar manwsw
Doctrine: Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Original: ἁμαρτωλός
Category: Sin
New — Luke (5:30,32; 7:34,37,39; 15:1-2,7,10; 18:13; 19:7). Distinguish from the ritual-impurity framing of Bathou/Kherai practice; this is moral standing before a holy God.
Table Fellowship
Approved rendering: लोगोसे खानाय
Transliteration: logose khanai
Doctrine: Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Original: συνανάκειμαι
Category: Compassion and Fellowship
New — Luke (5:29-30; 7:36-50; 15:2; 19:5-7; 22:14-20; 24:30-35). Must be distinguished from Kherai puja’s ritual food-offerings made TO the deity/pantheon; here Jesus’s table fellowship is a deliberate act of welcome extended TO social outcasts, a directional reversal that must be taught explicitly at every occurrence.
All Nations
Approved rendering: सर्बजुथुद
Transliteration: sarbojuthud
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Original: πάντα τὰ ἔθνη
Category: Church
New — Luke (24:47). Built on baseline गैर-जुथुद; universal scope must not be softened despite live Bodo ethnic/territorial identity politics in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Overshadow
Approved rendering: छाया होनाय
Transliteration: chaya honai
Doctrine: Incarnation and Virgin Birth
Original: ἐπισκιάσει (ἐπισκιάζω)
Category: God
New — Luke (1:35). Must be sharply distinguished from a doudini being ritually ‘covered’/seized by Bathoubwrai during Kherai trance-possession; a unique, once-for-all, non-repeatable act of conception.
Most High
Approved rendering: सबनि बांसिन ईश्वर
Transliteration: sabni bansin Isor
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बर’ऐ/बुरहा (FORBIDDEN elder-titles)
Original: ὕψιστος
Category: God
New — Luke (1:32,35,76; 6:35). Must NOT be rendered with the honorific elder-titles reserved for Bathoubwrai and Kherai-pantheon elder-deities, which would place God inside the existing pantheon as merely its greatest member rather than utterly transcendent.
Unclean Spirit
Approved rendering: साफ गैया आत्था
Transliteration: saf gaiya aatha
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and Kingdom Conflict with Satan
Original: πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον / δαιμόνιον
Category: Kingdom
New — Luke (4:33-36; 8:26-39; 9:37-43; 11:14-26). Categorically opposed to (never confused with) पबित्र आत्था; jesus’s exorcisms are authoritative confrontation and expulsion, not ritual negotiation with the देउ engaged in traditional Bathou practice.
Lost
Approved rendering: हारायनाय
Transliteration: haraynai
Doctrine: Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins
Original: ἀπολωλός (ἀπόλλυμι)
Category: Repentance
New — Luke (15:4,6,8-9,17,24,32; 19:10). Must be paired consistently with फोरायनाय (salvation) as its exact narrative resolution — lost/found is the structural logic of Luke 15 and 19:10.
Will Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि मोन
Transliteration: Isornni mon
Doctrine: Prayer and Dependence on God
Rejected alternatives: भागी (impersonal fate, FORBIDDEN per baseline providence entry)
Original: θέλημα
Category: Prayer and Dependence
New — Luke (22:42). Jesus’s submission at Gethsemane is a personal, relational act of trust and obedience toward his Father, the deepest possible model of the prayer-and-dependence doctrine, not passive resignation to an impersonal destiny.
Paradise
Approved rendering: स्वर्ग
Transliteration: sworgo
Doctrine: Assurance of Salvation through Faith
Original: παράδεισος
Category: Eschatology
New — Luke (23:43). स्वर्ग is the standard pan-Indian religious term for a heavenly abode, but in popular Hindu-influenced (and Brahma Dharma-influenced) cosmology it can denote a temporary heavenly waystation within an ongoing rebirth cycle; must be taught explicitly as the immediate, conscious, personal, final presence of Christ after death, not a temporary interlude preceding further rebirths.
Ascension
Approved rendering: सर्गाव जायख्रोमनाय
Transliteration: sworgao jaikhromnai
Doctrine: Ascension and Great Commission
Original: ἀνελήφθη (ἀναλαμβάνω)
Category: Christology
New — Luke (24:51). Same स्वर्ग-caution as ‘paradise’ applies: heaven here must be taught as Christ’s final, bodily, glorious exaltation to the Father’s right hand, not a temporary heavenly stage within a rebirth-cycle cosmology.
Blessed Beatitudes
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गुनथि लाबग्रा
Transliteration: Isornni gunthi labgra
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Rejected alternatives: भागवान (fate/fortune-flavored, rejected)
Original: μακάριος
Category: Poverty and Marginalization
New — Luke (6:20-22). A genuine reversal of ordinary status expectations, including any status logic tied to successful Bathou/Kherai ritual sponsorship (wealth as a mark of ritual favor); must not be softened into generic encouragement or heard as a fortune pronouncement.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: गोदान जायगारि
Transliteration: godan jaigari
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: दूत (generic messenger, too weak)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Applied to the Twelve at their naming (6:13) and at the Last Supper (22:14); distinguish from a generic religious specialist paralleling the doudini or ओझा folk diviner.
Peace
Approved rendering: सान्ति
Transliteration: santi
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Announced at Christ’s birth (2:14), offered to the sinful woman (7:50) and the crowds entering Jerusalem (19:38,42); distinguish from the household harmony Bathou/Kherai offerings are meant to secure.
Church
Approved rendering: मण्डली
Transliteration: mwndoli
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: नमासोलि (Bathou/Kherai shrine site, never use)
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. The word itself (ekklēsia) does not occur in Luke’s Gospel text, but is retained here for the ‘Church as God’s People’ doctrine describing the new covenant community Jesus forms around himself (the Twelve, the seventy-two, women disciples, 8:1-3); not a village ritual institution or Brahma Dharma-style reform organization.
Law
Approved rendering: बिथान
Transliteration: bithan
Doctrine: Sabbath and Fulfillment of the Law
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि नियम (Brahma Dharma’s codified conduct rules, avoid as primary gloss)
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Referenced in the infancy narrative’s ceremonial observances (2:22-27) and affirmed as fulfilled, not abolished, by Christ (16:16-17; 24:44).
Gentiles
Approved rendering: गैर-जुथुद
Transliteration: goir-juthud
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Named as recipients of revelation’s light (2:32) and of the gospel’s final commission (24:47); root for the new compound सर्बजुथुद (‘all nations’); use with sensitivity given Bodo ethnic/territorial identity politics.

Original: Δαυίδ
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Standard proper-name transliteration.

Mission
Approved rendering: मंगल खबरनि दायो
Transliteration: mangal khaborni dayo
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Original: ἀποστολή / πέμπω / ἀποστέλλω
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Enacted in the sending of the Twelve (9:1-6) and the seventy-two (10:1-16); frame as the church’s own ongoing calling given American Baptist mission history’s local entanglement with colonial-era administration.
Captives
Approved rendering: बन्दी
Transliteration: bandi
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Original: αἰχμάλωτος
Category: Poverty and Marginalization
New — Luke. Named in the Isaiah 61 citation (4:18); standard loanword covering literal and figurative bondage.
Oppressed

Transliteration: dabab-ao thanai manwsw
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized

Original: τυφλός
Category: Poverty and Marginalization

Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Original: κηρύσσω / εὐαγγελίζομαι

New — Luke (4:18-19; 8:1; 9:2; 24:47). Public, authoritative announcement, not casual conversation or private opinion-sharing.
Sabbath
Approved rendering: सानिबार
Transliteration: Sanibar
Doctrine: Sabbath and Fulfillment of the Law
Original: σάββατον
Category: Covenant
New — Luke (4:16,31; 6:1-11; 13:10-17; 14:1-6; 23:54,56). Bodo has no native institution of a weekly fixed holy rest day; Bathou ritual observance is occasional/seasonal, not calendrical-weekly, so the covenant-sign weight must be taught explicitly.
Today
Approved rendering: देंगोन
Transliteration: dengon
Doctrine: The Kingdom of God Present and Future
Original: σήμερον
Category: Kingdom
New — Luke (2:11; 4:21; 5:26; 19:5,9; 23:43). Recurring theological marker of inaugurated, present-tense salvation; enforce identical rendering at every occurrence per the Theological Consistency Rules.
Neighbor
Approved rendering: गुवारनि मानुष
Transliteration: guwarni manwsw
Doctrine: Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Original: πλησίον
Category: Compassion and Fellowship
New — Luke (10:27,29,36). Redefined by the parable of the Good Samaritan away from ethnic/clan proximity toward active mercy; worth flagging given the strong role clan (afad) and village proximity play in ordinary Bodo social categorization.
Follow
Approved rendering: उलजानाय
Transliteration: uljanai
Doctrine: The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Original: ἀκολουθέω
Category: Discipleship
New — Luke (5:11,27-28; 9:23,57-62; 18:22,28). Standard descriptive verb; no significant new comparative-religion risk beyond the disciple entry itself.
Joy
Approved rendering: रांगायनाय
Transliteration: ranggaynai
Doctrine: Joy as Fruit of Salvation
Original: χαρά
Category: Discipleship
New — Luke (1:14; 2:10; 10:17,21; 15:7,10,32; 19:6,37; 24:41,52). Must convey heaven’s own joy over repentance and return, not the festival merriment associated with a successful Kherai puja or harvest celebration.
Tax Collector
Approved rendering: पन्जी लांग्रा
Transliteration: panji langra
Doctrine: Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Original: τελώνης
Category: Poverty and Marginalization
New — Luke (3:12; 5:27-30; 7:29,34; 15:1; 18:10-14; 19:2). No exact Bodo social equivalent, but a teachable outsider-category parallel for the marginalized whom Jesus deliberately welcomes.
Witness

Original: μάρτυς
Category: Church
New — Luke (24:48). Standard descriptive term for authorized testimony.

Approved rendering: जुति
Transliteration: juti
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Original: φῶς εἰς ἀποκάλυψιν ἐθνῶν
Category: Church
New — Luke (2:32). Anchors the curriculum’s Savior-for-All-Nations doctrine at its earliest narrative point (Simeon’s prophecy).
Circumcision
Approved rendering: खतना
Transliteration: khatna
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant and Messianic Lineage
Original: περιτομή
Category: Covenant
New — Luke (1:59; 2:21). No native Bodo rite analog exists; must be explained as an Old Testament covenant sign.
Purification Ritual
Approved rendering: साफनाय
Transliteration: safnai
Doctrine: Sabbath and Fulfillment of the Law
Original: καθαρισμός
Category: Sanctification
New — Luke (2:22). Distinct from पबित्रनाय (internal, moral sanctification); external, ceremonial, and Old-Testament-specific.
Temple
Approved rendering: मन्दिर
Transliteration: mandir
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Original: ἱερόν
Category: Church
New — Luke (2:27,37,46; 19:45-46; 24:53). Established regional convention for the Jerusalem Temple; its idol/murti associations should be named explicitly in teaching notes so learners do not import image-worship connotations.
Devil Satan
Approved rendering: साइतान
Transliteration: Saitan
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and Kingdom Conflict with Satan
Rejected alternatives: देउ (generic nature-spirit, forbidden as substitute)
Original: διάβολος / Σατανᾶς
Category: Kingdom
New — Luke (4:1-13; 8:12; 10:18; 11:18; 13:16; 22:3,31). A singular, personal adversary, not one nature-spirit or ancestral spirit among the Bathou/Kherai pantheon.
Samaritan
Approved rendering: सामरिया मानुष
Transliteration: Samariya manwsw
Doctrine: Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Original: Σαμαρίτης
Category: Church
New — Luke (9:52-56; 10:33; 17:11-19). A despised ethnic-religious outsider category in the narrative’s own world; teachable as a structural parallel to inter-community boundary-crossing generally, avoid overdrawing a direct equivalence to any specific contemporary Assam-region ethnic tension.
Passover
Approved rendering: निस्तार पर्व
Transliteration: nistar porbo
Doctrine: New Covenant in Christ’s Blood
Original: πάσχα
Category: Covenant
New — Luke (22:1,7-15). No native Bodo festival analog exists; Kherai puja is the nearest formal recurring ritual-festival category to explain the concept of a fixed sacred festival, but its content — securing the Bathou pantheon’s favor — must not be equated with Passover’s historical deliverance-commemoration.
Human Spirit
Approved rendering: आत्था
Transliteration: aatha
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: πνεῦμα
Category: Christology
New — Luke (23:46). Jesus’s own human spirit, committed to the Father at his death, distinct from the Holy Spirit; context alone distinguishes this from पбит्र आत्था — a footnote clarifying ‘his own spirit,’ not the Holy Spirit, is recommended given आत्था’s doctrinal weight elsewhere.
Rich
Approved rendering: महर मानुष
Transliteration: mohor manwsw
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Original: πλούσιος
Category: Poverty and Marginalization
New — Luke (6:24; 12:16; 16:19; 18:23,25; 19:2). Wealth is not a mark of ritual or divine favor in Luke’s presentation; contrast explicitly with any status logic tied to successful Bathou/Kherai ritual sponsorship.
Woe
Approved rendering: दुखनि रां
Transliteration: dukhni rang
Doctrine: Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Original: οὐαί
Category: Poverty and Marginalization

Low Risk Terms
Thanksgiving
Approved rendering: धिनानाय
Transliteration: dhinanai

Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package verbatim. Seen in Anna (2:38), the healed leper (17:16), the Last Supper (22:17,19), and the ascension’s aftermath (24:53); minor risk of a ritual-thanks-offering misreading.
