Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Matthew 1–28 (English → Bodo)
This glossary extends the Romans Language Package baseline for the Matthew curriculum. Section A lists baseline terms reused exactly (no change permitted) as they recur across Matthew. Section B lists new terms required by Matthew’s distinctive vocabulary and doctrines, each with a proposed Bodo rendering, transliteration, risk tier, and a grounded reason citing the comparative-religion landscape documented in the baseline (Bathouism/Bathoubwrai/sijou/Kherai puja/doudini trance-mediumship; Brahma Dharma’s 1912 Sanskritized reform). Terms marked [PROVISIONAL] require confirmation by a Bodo-speaking theologian or native speaker before Phase 2 enforcement, per the same methodology the baseline itself uses for terms such as “fellowship,” “covenant,” and “adoption.”

Section B — New Terms Introduced by Matthew
B1. Kingdom and Messiahship
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| kingdom_of_heaven | βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν | स्वर्गनि राज्य | swargoni rajyo | High | The Kingdom of Heaven | स्वर्ग collides with Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced merited-afterlife concept (स्वर्ग attained via पुण्य) and generic regional Hindu heaven-cosmology; must be taught as God’s present-and-coming sovereign reign, not a merited post-mortem destination. Ground-up teaching required each first occurrence per lesson, same routing as फोरायनाय. |
| son_of_david | υἱὸς Δαυίδ | दाऊदनि गोरा | Daudni gwra | Critical | Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David | Distinct from दाऊदनि बेंसे (seed_of_david, physical lineage, baseline High risk); this is the messianic title. Must not be heard as one honorific elder-title among the Bathou pantheon’s several; ties directly to davidic_covenant (baseline High risk). |
| messianic_fulfillment / fulfill | πληρόω | सिद्ध जानाय | siddho janai | High | Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy | Matches baseline doctrine-registry phrasing exactly; structural refrain (10+ occurrences) requiring identical rendering throughout. |
| immanuel | Ἐμμανουήλ | इम्मानुएल (गि.: ईश्वर आमाजों दं) | Immanuel (gloss: Isor amajwng dwng) | Critical | Incarnation / Deity of Christ | Ties directly to baseline’s Critical incarnation/deity_of_christ entries; must not read as temporary spirit-indwelling parallel to doudini Kherai-trance possession. |
| virgin | παρθένος | कुमारी | kumari | High | Incarnation | Must not be assimilated to Hindu-mythological divine-birth motifs or Bathou/Kherai fertility-goddess (Mainao) narrative; unique historical miracle-sign. |
| son_of_man | υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου | मानसिनि गोरा | manwsini gwra | Critical | Authority of Jesus’ Teaching; Judgment and End of Age | Danielic double-sense (humility + end-time authority) must both be preserved; must not be flattened to “a human” nor assimilated to doudini medium-possession. |
B2. The Beatitudes and Kingdom Character
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| blessed | μακάριος | धिन्य [PROVISIONAL] | dhinyo | High | Kingdom of Heaven | Risk of this-worldly-prosperity reading, colliding with Bathou/Kherai household-prosperity ritual goals (Mainao) and Brahma Dharma merit-reward framing. |
| poor_in_spirit | πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι | आत्मायाव गरीब | aatmayao gorib | Medium | Kingdom of Heaven | Risk of collapsing to literal economic poverty if आत्मायाव dropped. |
| meek | πραΰς | नम्र [PROVISIONAL] | nomro | Medium | Discipleship | Risk of being heard as social weakness rather than strength under God’s control (cf. Jesus’ self-description, 11:29; 21:5). |
| inherit_the_earth | κληρονομέω τὴν γῆν | हादोखौ आदाबथि लाबनाय | hadokhou adabathi labnai | High | Kingdom of Heaven / End of Age | हा (“earth”) is one of the five sacred Bathou elements (sijou plant’s five branches); also risks Bodoland territorial-political misreading. |
| pure_in_heart | καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ | गोसोनि पबित्रता | gwsoni pobitrota | High | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Deliberately built on पबित्र, not साफ, to preserve baseline’s ritual-vs-moral purity distinction; central to Matt 23’s inside/outside contrast. |
| children_of_god | υἱοὶ θεοῦ (plural, believers) | ईश्वरनि फिसा | Isornni phisa | High | Kingdom of Heaven / Adoption | MUST remain visually/lexically distinct from ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God, Christ’s unique Sonship, Critical baseline term). |
| persecuted | διωγμός / διώκω | उपद्रोब खालनाय | uprodrob khalnai | High | Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus | Live pastoral reality for Bodo converts facing family/clan pressure to return to Bathou or Brahma Dharma practice, not merely a historical scenario. |
| reward | μισθός | बदला | bodola | High | Discipleship; Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Strong pull toward merit-transaction reading (Brahma Dharma पुण्य-reward ethic; Bathou/Kherai reciprocal-offering logic) — same collision class as baseline’s grace entry. |
| mercy/merciful | ἔλεος / ἐλεήμων | दया / दयालु | doya / doyalu | High | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Related to but distinct from grace; risk of reciprocal-exchange reading; corrective anchor text is 9:13/12:7 (Hosea 6:6 quotation). |
| righteousness_exceeding | περισσεύῃ … δικαιοσύνη | फरीसीखौनिख्रुइ गोबां धार्मिकता | Pharisikhounikhrui goban dharmikota | Critical | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (doctrine anchor) | Risk of legalistic misreading intensified by Brahma Dharma’s own rule-intensification reform history; must be taught as heart-level, Spirit-produced righteousness. |
B3. Repentance, Baptism, Forgiveness
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| repent | μετανοέω | गुनाहनिफ्राय सोलायनाय | gunahnifrai solainai | Critical | Kingdom of Heaven; Judgment | Built in structural parallel to जिउनाय सोलायनाय (resurrection); must convey inward transformation, not external ritual regret or Brahma Dharma’s incremental-reform ethic. |
| baptism/baptize | βάπτισμα / βαπτίζω | बाप्तिस्मो | baptismo | Critical | Great Commission | Must not be confused with Bathou/Kherai household ritual water-purification or ओझा ritual bathing; recurs identically at 28:19. |
| forgive/forgiveness | ἀφίημι / ἄφεσις | माफ खालामनाय / माफनाय | maph khalamnai / maphnai | High | The Church and Church Discipline; Judgment | Distinct from, and narrower than, justification (धार्मिक होनाय राव); must not read as ritual absolution by a specialist. |
| defile | κοινόω | अपबित्र खालामनाय | opobitro khalamnai | High | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Reframes purity as heart-level; must be distinguished from Bathou/Kherai’s external ritual purification practice. |
B4. Authority, Discipleship, and the Church
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| authority | ἐξουσία | अधिकार | odhikar | High | Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (doctrine anchor) | Must not be read as delegated ritual authority (doudini’s temporary trance-authority) or customary clan/elder authority; climaxes at 28:18. |
| disciple | μαθητής | सिष्य [PROVISIONAL] | sishyo | High | Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus | Collides with the guru-sishyo paradigm central to Brahma Dharma’s reform movement; object (Christ) must always be explicit. |
| follow | ἀκολουθέω | उदांनाय [PROVISIONAL] | udangnai | High | Discipleship | Object-specification risk parallel to बिश्वास; unspecified “following” risks generic guru-discipleship reading. |
| take_up_cross | σταυρός (bear one’s own) | क्रुस | krus | Critical | Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus (doctrine anchor) | Must retain literal self-denial/death-identification sense, not soften into generic “burden.” |
| lose_life_find_life | ἀπολέσῃ/εὑρήσει | जिउ एरनाय आरो जिउ मोननाय | jiu erenai aro jiu monnai | High | Discipleship | Paradox must not collapse into either bare self-sacrifice ethics or self-help “self-discovery” framing. |
| church_discipline (bind_and_loose) | δέω / λύω | बादा होनाय आरो एराबनाय | bada honai aro erabnai | Critical | The Church and Church Discipline (doctrine anchor) | Direct collision with ओझा folk-ritual binding/warding charms (sympathetic magic); must be taught as Christ-derived declarative spiritual authority, not ritual power. |
| keys_of_kingdom | κλεῖδας τῆς βασιλείας | राज्यनि साबियारि | rajyoni sabiyari | High | The Church and Church Discipline | Risk of being read as literal ritual object of power, echoing material/object-centered Bathou ritual practice (sijou). |
| confess | ὁμολογέω | स्वीकार खालामनाय | sikar khalamnai | High | Discipleship; Lordship of Christ | Parallels Romans 10:9 confession stakes already Critical in baseline. |
B5. Worship, Hypocrisy, and Religious Practice
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| worship | προσκυνέω | आराधना खालामनाय | aradhana khalamnai | Critical | Authority of Jesus’ Teaching; throughout | पूजा FORBIDDEN — it is the literal name of the Kherai ritual-offering system; using it would conflate Christian worship of Christ with Bathou/Kherai ritual practice. Add to Critical Forbidden Substitution list. |
| hypocrite | ὑποκριτής | कपटी | kopoti | Medium | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Standard loanword; teaching note on outward-vs-inward religion, recurring ch. 6, 15, 23. |
| Pharisees/scribes | Φαρισαῖοι / γραμματεῖς | फरीसी / व्यवस्था गुरु | Pharisi / byabostha guru | Medium | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Avoid mapping onto ओझा/doudini/Brahma Dharma reform-teacher roles; requires historical explanation, not cultural equivalence. |
| sabbath | σάββατον | सबथ (आरामनि दिन) | sabath (aramni din) | Medium | Authority of Jesus’ Teaching | No ready cultural institution parallels covenantal Sabbath; distinguish from Kherai puja’s periodic ritual-calendar observances. |
| mammon | μαμωνᾷ | मामोन | mamon | Medium | Discipleship | Resonance (not identity) with Kherai pantheon’s Mainao (wealth goddess) worth naming in teaching notes. |
| love | ἀγάπη / ἀγαπάω | मोसाथिनाय [PROVISIONAL] | mwsathinai | High | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees; Discipleship | Summary of the Law (22:37-40); must convey active covenantal love, not mere sentiment or clan-bounded (afad) reciprocal affection. |
B6. Judgment and the End of the Age
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mysteries_of_kingdom | μυστήρια | राज्यनि सोलोंथाव राव | rajyoni solongthau rao | Medium | Kingdom of Heaven | Risk of collision with ओझा’s claimed secret ritual knowledge; must be taught as graciously revealed truth, not specialist esoteric lore. |
| end_of_the_age | συντέλεια τοῦ αἰῶνος | जुगनि जोबथाव | jugni jobthau | Critical | Judgment and the End of Age (doctrine anchor) | जुग (age/era) resonates with Hindu/Brahma Dharma cyclical-yuga cosmology; Matthew’s “end of the age” is linear and final, not cyclical — same collision class as baseline’s resurrection/rebirth caution. |
| blasphemy_against_holy_spirit | βλασφημία | पबित्र आत्थानि निंदा | pobitro aathani ninda | Critical | Judgment | The unforgivable sin; mandatory theologian review every occurrence. |
| woe | οὐαί | दुखनि रां | dukhoni rang | Medium-High | Judgment | Prophetic judgment-speech; must retain force of solemn divine indictment, not mere sadness. |
| parousia (Son of Man’s coming) | παρουσία | जिसुनि फिन फैनाय | Jisuni phin phoinai | Critical | Judgment and the End of Age (doctrine anchor) | Must not be read as repeatable avatar-descent (Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced avatara theology) or doudini-style trance-descent of a deity into a medium. |
| watch/be_ready | γρηγορέω | जागोन थानाय | jagwn thanai | Medium | Judgment | Standard vigilance vocabulary; ties to providence/assurance doctrines already in baseline. |
| eternal_life | ζωὴ αἰώνιος | जोबथाव नङा जिउ | jobthau nonga jiu | Critical | Judgment; Kingdom of Heaven | Structural parallel to eternal_punishment; must be distinguished from मोक्ष (escape from rebirth-cycle) — positive, relational, embodied life, not liberation into an impersonal absolute. |
| eternal_punishment | κόλασις αἰώνιος | जोबथाव नङा सजा | jobthau nonga sodya | Critical | Judgment and the End of Age (doctrine anchor) | Must be taught as final and conscious, NOT a temporary purgation preceding rebirth — same collision class, opposite pole, as eternal_life. |
| hell/gehenna | γέεννα | नरक [heavy caveat required] | norok | Critical | Judgment | नरक in general Hindu/Brahma Dharma-influenced usage can denote a temporary punitive realm within a rebirth cosmology; caveat must be attached every occurrence, as with फोरायनाय. |
| ransom | λύτρον | फोरायनायनि दाम | phoraynaini dam | Critical | Judgment; Righteousness | Christ’s atoning death must not be assimilated to Bathou/Kherai reciprocal ritual-offering-for-protection logic — same collision class as baseline’s grace entry; mandatory theologian review. |
B7. Mission and the Great Commission
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| make_disciples | μαθητεύω | सिष्य मोहरै दानाय | sishyo mohrai danai | Critical | The Great Commission (doctrine anchor) | Verb-form of सिष्य (disciple); same guru-sishyo collision risk applies, intensified by imperative/programmatic force. |
| all_nations | πάντα τὰ ἔθνη (28:19) | सर्बां जाति/जुथुद | sarbang jati/juthud | High | Great Commission; Mission to the Nations | Broader than गैर-जुथुद (gentiles = specifically non-Jewish peoples); must preserve Matthew’s universal scope without narrowing to the Jew/Gentile axis. |
| harvest/laborers | θερισμός / ἐργάται | सोलेर / सेवारी | soleir / sewari | Medium | Great Commission | Frame evangelism as the church’s own present calling, not a foreign historical missionary project, per baseline mission-framing caution. |
B8. Miscellaneous Narrative and Textual Terms
| Term | English gloss | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Grounded Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| transfigured | μεταμορφόω | रुप सोलायनाय | rup solainai | High | Deity of Christ | Distinct from incarnation (permanent) — temporary revelatory unveiling of pre-existing glory; must not be conflated with doudini altered-state ritual practice. |
| cornerstone | κεφαλὴ γωνίας | मुल हातर | mul hatwr | Medium | Fulfillment of Prophecy | Requires OT (Ps 118) background teaching, not a comparative-religion collision per se. |
| perfect/complete | τέλειος | पूरा | pura | Medium | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | Wholehearted covenant faithfulness, not flawless achievement nor Brahma Dharma perfectibility-through-reform. |
| oath | ὅρκος | कस्थम/सत्य राव | (descriptive) | Medium | Authority of Jesus’ Teaching | Standard concept; minor honor/truth-telling cultural note. |
Cross-Reference Notes for Phase 2
- All Section A terms must be pulled directly from
translation_memory.jsonv1 (Romans baseline) with zero deviation. Do not re-derive. - All Section B terms are new entries to be added to a Matthew-specific extension of
translation_memory.jsonbefore Phase 2 segment translation begins, each tagged with its risk tier forbible_term_registry.json-style enforcement and routed perdoctrine_risk_registry.json-style review rules (Critical/High → human theologian; Medium → native speaker; Low → automated). - Terms marked [PROVISIONAL] (धिन्य, नम्र, सिष्य, उदांनाय, मोसाथिनाय) require native-speaker/theologian confirmation before Phase 2 enforcement and should be flagged exactly as the baseline flags “fellowship,” “covenant,” and “adoption.”
- The following terms are proposed for the Critical Forbidden Substitution List (Matthew extension), parallel to the baseline’s existing list: पूजा (for worship — always आराधना), नरक used without the required non-rebirth caveat, फिन जोनोम (resurrection — carried over from baseline, applies equally to eternal_life/eternal_punishment contexts), मोक्ष (salvation/eternal life — carried over from baseline).
This glossary, together with 07_semantic_analysis.md, extends the Romans Language Package baseline (translation_memory.json v1) for the Matthew curriculum and is ready for incorporation into an updated translation memory file prior to Phase 2.
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dharmikota
Doctrine: Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Rejected alternatives: धर्म (bare cosmic-duty sense imported through Brahma Dharma reform teaching)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew’s usage (3:15; 5:6,10,20,45; 6:1,33; 13:43,49; 21:32) spans both gift (forensic standing) and Spirit-produced fruit (lived character) — a wider range than Romans’ more strictly forensic usage. Because Brahma Dharma’s own reform program is built on this same Sanskrit dharma-root as a codified religious-duty system, both senses must be explicitly taught as flowing from grace, never as rule-achievement — this risk is intensified, not lessened, by Matthew’s ‘exceeding the Pharisees’ language (5:20).
Salvation
Approved rendering: फोरायनाय
Transliteration: phoraynai
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-derived liberation concept, never use), रैखाथि (Kherai-pantheon protection from misfortune, never use as a stand-alone gloss)
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew 1:21 (‘he will save his people from their sins’) is the book’s founding statement of this doctrine. Ground-up teaching required as in the baseline, since Bathouism has no developed eschatological salvation category and Brahma Dharma’s मोक्ष-language must never be used.
God
Approved rendering: ईश्वर
Transliteration: Isor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (never use as the primary term for the biblical God; reserve strictly for describing traditional Bathou belief)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Never बाथौबुरै. This choice must be named and explained in every Matthew lesson introducing God, exactly as the baseline requires.
Jesus
Approved rendering: जिसु
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Verify against a current printed Bodo Bible before finalizing, per the baseline’s own caveat.
Messiah
Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: mosih
Doctrine: Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew’s genealogy (1:1) and Peter’s confession (16:16) make this the book’s programmatic title; never one figure among the Bathou pantheon or a Brahma Dharma reformer-figure.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: probhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बर’ऐ/बुरहा titles reserved for Bathoubwrai and Kherai-pantheon elder-deities, never use for Christ
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew’s ‘Lord of the Sabbath’ claim (12:8) is a direct claim to divine authority over a covenant institution and must never be softened by an honorific elder-title.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गोरा
Transliteration: Isornni gwra
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देवता गोरा (a lesser divine being’s son, an explicit downgrade)
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Confessed at 3:17; 14:33; 16:16; 17:5; 26:63; 27:40,43,54. MUST remain lexically and doctrinally distinct from the new NEW term ‘children_of_god’ (ईश्वरनि फिसा), used exclusively for believers’ derivative sonship at 5:9.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: pobitro aatha
Doctrine: Virgin Birth and Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: देउ (a generic spirit-being from the Bathou/Kherai pantheon, never use), बुरहा-बुरही आत्था (ancestral household spirits, never use)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Always in full; never bare आत्था/देउ. Active at Jesus’ conception (1:18,20), baptism (3:16), and the Great Commission’s Trinitarian formula (28:19); also the direct object of the unforgivable sin (12:31-32).
Resurrection
Approved rendering: जिउनाय सोलायनाय
Transliteration: jiunai solainai
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम (rebirth into a new life-cycle, Brahma Dharma-absorbed reincarnation vocabulary, never use)
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Predicted repeatedly in Matthew (12:40; 16:21; 17:9,23; 20:19) and fulfilled at 27:52-53; 28:1-10; must render identically at every occurrence per cross-document consistency rule.
Son Of David
Approved rendering: दाऊदनि गोरा
Transliteration: Daudni gwra
Doctrine: Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Original: υἱὸς Δαυίδ
Category: Christology
NEW TERM, distinct from seed_of_david (physical lineage). This is the messianic title, recurring at every major turning point (1:1; 9:27; 12:23; 15:22; 20:30-31; 21:9,15; 22:42-45). Must not be heard as one honorific elder-title among the several applied to Bathoubwrai and the Kherai pantheon’s elder figures; ties directly to the Davidic Covenant doctrine.
Immanuel
Approved rendering: इम्मानुएल (गि. ईश्वर आमाजों दं)
Transliteration: Immanuel (gloss: Isor amajwng dwng)
Doctrine: Virgin Birth and Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: देउनि आगोर (a deity temporarily descending into/speaking through a doudini, never use)
Original: Ἐμμανουήλ
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. ‘God with us,’ the sign-name of the incarnate Christ (1:23). Transliterated with the mandatory explanatory gloss ईश्वर आमाजों दं. Ties directly to incarnation and deity_of_christ; must be taught as God’s permanent, personal presence in Jesus, never a temporary spirit-indwelling comparable to a doudini’s Kherai-trance possession.
Son Of Man
Approved rendering: मानसिनि गोरा
Transliteration: manwsini gwra
Doctrine: The Son of Man
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Danielic title (Dan 7:13-14) carrying both genuine humility and end-time divine authority to judge and reign (8:20; 9:6; 12:8; 13:41; 16:27-28; 19:28; 24:27,30,37,44; 25:31; 26:64). Must not be flattened to mean merely ‘a human being,’ and must be sharply distinguished from a doudini’s temporary human vessel-status during Kherai trance — the Son of Man is the eternal Son himself, permanently possessing full humanity.
Righteousness Exceeding
Approved rendering: फरीसीखौनिख्रुइ गोबां धार्मिकता
Transliteration: Pharisikhounikhrui goban dharmikota
Doctrine: Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि निदान मानोन (rule-keeping obedience to a reformed religious code, a works-based misreading)
Original: περισσεύῃ … δικαιοσύνη
Category: Righteousness
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor. The greater, heart-level righteousness Jesus requires, exceeding the Pharisees’ external standard (5:20; cf. 6:1,33; 23:1-28). Risk of legalistic misreading is intensified, not lessened, by Brahma Dharma’s own historical project of intensifying and codifying religious conduct rules; must be taught as Spirit-produced, heart-level righteousness flowing from grace, never a call to stricter external rule-observance.
Repent
Approved rendering: गुनाहनिफ्राय सोलायनाय
Transliteration: gunahnifrai solainai
Doctrine: Repentance
Original: μετανοέω
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM, built in deliberate structural parallel to जिउनाय सोलायनाय (resurrection), both using the सोलायनाय (‘turning’) root. Called for by John (3:2), Jesus (4:17), and the towns of Galilee (11:20-21; 12:41). Must convey inward, God-directed transformation, not the external ritual regret/purification of pre-Kherai cleansing rites, nor Brahma Dharma’s incremental communal-reform ethic.
Baptism
Approved rendering: बाप्तिस्मो
Transliteration: baptismo
Doctrine: Baptism
Rejected alternatives: descriptive paraphrase e.g. ‘water ritual’ (rejected — would conflate with existing household purification rites)
Original: βάπτισμα / βαπτίζω
Category: Church
NEW TERM, transliterated following established regional Bible-translation convention (cf. Assamese বাপ্তিস্ম). Christian immersion signifying repentance, union with Christ, and entry into the church (3:6,11,13-17; 28:19). Must be sharply distinguished from household/courtyard ritual water-purification preceding Bathou and Kherai ceremonies and from any ओझा ritual bathing rite. Renders identically at 3:1-17 and the Trinitarian formula of 28:19.
Take Up Cross
Approved rendering: क्रुस
Transliteration: krus
Doctrine: Taking Up the Cross
Rejected alternatives: descriptive paraphrase e.g. ‘burden/wooden beam’ (rejected — would soften the literal self-denial/death-identification sense)
Original: σταυρός (bear one’s own)
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM, transliterated (cf. Assamese ক্রুচ), doctrine anchor. Willing self-denial and identification with Christ’s own death, required of every disciple (10:38; 16:24). Must retain the sense of literal self-denial and identification with Christ’s own literal death; must never be softened into a generic metaphor for any hardship or burden — this is precisely why transliteration, not a descriptive rendering, is required.
Bind And Loose
Approved rendering: बादा होनाय आरो एराबनाय
Transliteration: bada honai aro erabnai
Doctrine: Binding and Loosing (Church Authority)
Original: δέω / λύω
Category: Church
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor. The church’s derived, declarative spiritual authority to exercise discipline and pronounce forgiveness or exclusion (16:19; 18:18). Direct collision with traditional Bodo folk-ritual binding/warding charms and counter-spells associated with the ओझा (a form of sympathetic ritual power); must be taught as Christ-derived declarative authority grounded in अधिकार, never as magical binding-spell power. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence.
Worship
Approved rendering: आराधना खालामनाय
Transliteration: aradhana khalamnai
Doctrine: Worship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: पूजा (FORBIDDEN — the literal name of the Kherai ritual-offering system)
Original: προσκυνέω
Category: Worship
NEW TERM, added to the Critical Forbidden Substitution List. Bowing down in homage, directed to Jesus throughout Matthew (2:2,8,11; 8:2; 9:18; 14:33; 15:25; 20:20; 28:9,17) and demanded of Satan in the temptation (4:9-10). पूजा is FORBIDDEN — using it would directly conflate Christian worship of Christ with the Bathou/Kherai ritual-offering complex. आराधना is used instead, exactly parallel to the baseline’s choice of ईश्वर over बाथौबुरै. The Magi’s gift-giving worship (2:2-11) requires special care against an offering-for-favor misreading.
End Of The Age
Approved rendering: जुगनि जोबथाव
Transliteration: jugni jobthau
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Original: συντέλεια τοῦ αἰῶνος
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor. The final, linear culmination of history in judgment (13:39-43,49-50; 24:3; 28:20). जुग (age/era) is a Sanskrit loanword resonant with the Hindu/Brahma Dharma concept of cyclical yugas (recurring cosmic ages); Matthew’s phrase is linear and final — a one-time culmination, not a transition within an endlessly repeating cycle. Must be taught explicitly at every occurrence, directly paralleling the baseline’s resurrection/rebirth caution.
Blasphemy Against Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्थानि निंदा
Transliteration: pobitro aathani ninda
Doctrine: Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Original: βλασφημία
Category: Sin
NEW TERM. The unforgivable sin of attributing the Spirit’s work to evil (12:31-32). No ready native analogue: Bathou ritual impurity is always remediable through further ritual action and Brahma Dharma’s karma-ethic assumes continued opportunity for moral correction, unlike this doctrine’s finality. Requires very careful, theologically precise teaching to avoid false despair or false presumption; also distinguish from folk-taboo word-magic (a spoken curse carrying automatic binding power). Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence.
Parousia
Approved rendering: जिसुनि फिन फैनाय
Transliteration: Jisuni phin phoinai
Doctrine: Second Coming of Christ (Parousia)
Rejected alternatives: Greek transliteration ‘parousia’ (rejected — would require as much scaffolding as a paraphrase while adding unnecessary foreignness)
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor. Christ’s single, final, visible, personal return in glory to judge and consummate his kingdom (24:3,27,37,39; 25:31; 26:64). Must not be read as a repeatable avatar-style divine descent (a live risk given Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced avatara theology, which envisions multiple divine descents across ages) nor comparable to a doudini’s ritual trance-descent of a deity into a human medium during Kherai puja.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: जोबथाव नङा जिउ
Transliteration: jobthau nonga jiu
Doctrine: Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष-adjacent liberation framing (Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced escape-from-rebirth concept, never use)
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor, built using the जोबथाव (‘end’) root for internal glossary consistency with end_of_the_age and eternal_punishment. Unending, personal, relational life with God in Christ (19:16,29; 25:46). Must be sharply distinguished from Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced मोक्ष (liberation from the rebirth cycle) — positive, relational, embodied life, never escape from existence or merging into an impersonal absolute.
Eternal Punishment
Approved rendering: जोबथाव नङा सजा
Transliteration: jobthau nonga sodya
Doctrine: Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment
Rejected alternatives: any annihilationist or temporary-purgation softening, never use
Original: κόλασις αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor, built in deliberate structural parallel with eternal_life (25:46). Must be taught as final and conscious, explicitly NOT a temporary purgation preceding another rebirth, which is the expectation a hearer shaped by Brahma Dharma’s karma-and-rebirth framework might otherwise import. Preserve strict grammatical parallelism with eternal_life at every occurrence of the paired verse (25:46).
Hell Gehenna
Approved rendering: नरक
Transliteration: norok
Doctrine: Hell (Gehenna)
Original: γέεννα
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, used ONLY with a mandatory caveat attached at every occurrence — added to the Critical Forbidden Substitution List as ‘use only with caveat,’ not an outright ban, since no better-attested alternative exists. नरक, a Sanskrit/Hindi loanword, can denote in general regional Hindu (and Brahma Dharma-influenced) usage a temporary punitive realm within an ongoing rebirth cosmology. Matthew’s γέεννα (5:22,29-30; 10:28; 18:9; 23:15,33; 25:41,46) must be taught explicitly as real, conscious, and final judgment — never a way-station before rebirth.
Ransom
Approved rendering: फोरायनायनि दाम
Transliteration: phoraynaini dam
Doctrine: Atonement and Ransom
Original: λύτρον
Category: Christology
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor for the Passion. The price of Christ’s substitutionary, atoning death, given for many (20:28; cf. 26:26-28). Must NOT be assimilated to the reciprocal offering-for-protection logic of Bathou/Kherai ritual exchange — the same collision class flagged Critical for grace in the baseline — nor to any notion of appeasing an angry deity through repeated ritual payment. A once-for-all, sufficient price paid by God himself.
Make Disciples
Approved rendering: सिष्य मोहरै दानाय
Transliteration: sishyo mohrai danai
Doctrine: The Great Commission
Original: μαθητεύω
Category: Mission
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor. The imperative act of forming disciples of Christ among all nations (28:19). Verb-form of सिष्य; the same guru-sishyo collision risk applies, intensified by the imperative, programmatic force of the Commission itself. Jesus must always be the explicit object.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: मंगल खबर
Transliteration: mangal khabor
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: सुसमाचार (Hindi loan, avoid as default)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. In Matthew appears as ‘gospel of the kingdom’ (4:23; 9:35; 24:14) and at the Great Commission’s founding narrative (26:13); teach as a unit with kingdom_of_heaven, never as a call to Brahma Dharma-style religious reform.
Faith
Approved rendering: बिश्वास
Transliteration: biswas
Doctrine: Faith and Little Faith
Rejected alternatives: भरोसा (generic trust, too weak alone)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew’s repeated ‘little faith’ (ὀλιγόπιστος) is rendered गुबुन बिश्वास, keeping the बिश्वास root (6:30; 8:26; 14:31; 16:8; 17:20; 21:21-22). The object of faith (Jesus’ own power/authority to heal and save) must always be explicit in context, or बिश्वास risks reading as generic devotion transferable to Bathoubwrai or the Kherai pantheon.
Sin
Approved rendering: गुनाह
Transliteration: gunah
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: दोष (fault/blame, too weak/civic)
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Distinguish from ritual impurity addressed through Bathou/Kherai cleansing rites (see also ‘defile,’ below, for Matthew’s own heart-versus-ritual teaching in 15:11-20).
Father
Approved rendering: आफा
Transliteration: afa
Doctrine: Providence and Care of God
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (reserve strictly for describing traditional belief, never for the biblical Father)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package exactly. God as personal Father, addressed with special intimacy throughout the Sermon on the Mount and the Lord’s Prayer (5:16,45,48; 6:1-18; 7:11,21; 23:9; 26:39,42; 28:19).
Holy
Approved rendering: पबित्र
Transliteration: pobitro
Doctrine: Hypocrisy and Inward Righteousness
Rejected alternatives: साफ (physically clean, ritual-purity sense only)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Root for the new term ‘pure_in_heart’ (गोसोनि पबित्रता, 5:8); साफ must be reserved for physical/ritual cleanliness, never substituted here.
Law
Approved rendering: बिथान
Transliteration: bithan
Doctrine: Sabbath and the Law
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि नियम (Brahma Dharma’s own codified religious-conduct rules, avoid as the primary gloss)
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package exactly (baseline listed Medium; elevated to High here given Matthew’s sustained legal controversies with the Pharisees across chs. 5, 12, 15, 19, 22-23). Jesus claims to fulfill, not abolish, this Law (5:17-18).
Called
Approved rendering: फिनायाव
Transliteration: phinaiyao
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: मिनतिनाय (a plea/invitation, too weak)
Original: κλητός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew 22:14 pairs ‘called’ with election (‘many are called, but few are chosen’).
Calling
Approved rendering: फिनायनि सिम
Transliteration: phinaini sim
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Kept structurally parallel to फिनायाव for teaching consistency across both curricula.
Election
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सायख
Transliteration: Isornni saikho
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: भागी (fate/fortune, too impersonal)
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐκλεκτός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. ‘The elect’ gathered at the Son of Man’s coming (24:22,24,31) and named in the wedding-feast parable (22:14). Never भागी.
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mohima
Doctrine: Transfiguration and the Glory of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Displayed in the Transfiguration (17:5) and at Christ’s coming (16:27; 19:28; 24:30; 25:31). Must not be assimilated to a doudini’s trance-radiance or oracular authority during Kherai puja.
Covenant
Approved rendering: गोसाथारि
Transliteration: gwsathari
Doctrine: New Covenant in Christ’s Blood
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew’s climactic use is at the Last Supper (26:28, ‘this is my blood of the covenant’) — the New Covenant’s founding text, connecting explicitly to the Davidic covenant and the forgiveness of sins it secures.
Providence
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सामलानाय
Transliteration: Isornni samlanai
Doctrine: Providence and Care of God
Rejected alternatives: भागी (fate, never use)
Original: cf. Matthew 6:26-32; 10:29-31
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew 6:25-34 (‘not even a sparrow falls’) and 10:29-31 (‘hairs of your head’) are the key texts, specifically vulnerable to being reheard as impersonal-fate assurance rather than a personal Father’s relational promise — the exact caution the baseline applies to Romans 8:28.
Seed Of David
Approved rendering: दाऊदनि बेंसे
Transliteration: Daudni bense
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: σπέρμα Δαυίδ (concept underlying 1:1-17)
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Physical descent from David, foundational to Matthew’s opening genealogy (1:1-17). Distinct from the NEW messianic royal title son_of_david (दाऊदनि गोरा) — this term names lineage fact, that term names messianic office; keep lexically distinct.
Kingdom Of Heaven
Approved rendering: स्वर्गनि राज्य
Transliteration: swargoni rajyo
Doctrine: The Kingdom of Heaven
Original: βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν
Category: Kingdom
NEW TERM. God’s present-and-coming sovereign reign, inaugurated by Jesus; Matthew’s preferred phrase (32x), first at 3:2, closing the Beatitudes at 5:3,10. स्वर्ग collides with Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced merited-afterlife concept (स्वर्ग attained via पुण्य) and generic regional Hindu heaven-cosmology. Must be taught from the ground up, every first occurrence per lesson, as God’s reign breaking into history — never a place one goes after death. Render only where Matthew’s Greek has οὐρανῶν; render kingdom_of_god (ईश्वरनि राज्य) where the Greek has θεοῦ — do not harmonize.
Fulfill
Approved rendering: सिद्ध जानाय
Transliteration: siddho janai
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Original: πληρόω
Category: Scripture
NEW TERM, matching the baseline doctrine-registry phrasing for fulfillment_of_prophecy exactly. Structural refrain (1:22; 2:15,17,23; 4:14; 5:17; 8:17; 12:17; 13:35; 21:4; 26:56; 27:9) requiring identical rendering at every occurrence; must not be assimilated into Brahma Dharma’s own progressive-reform narrative of Bodo religious history.
Virgin
Approved rendering: कुमारी
Transliteration: kumari
Doctrine: Virgin Birth and Incarnation
Original: παρθένος
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Mary’s virginal conception (1:23, citing Isaiah 7:14). Must not be assimilated to Hindu-mythological divine-birth motifs (relevant given Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced background) nor to any Bathou/Kherai fertility-goddess (Mainao) narrative; a unique historical sign validating the incarnation.
Blessed
Approved rendering: धिन्य
Transliteration: dhinyo
Doctrine: Beatitudes and Kingdom Blessing
Original: μακάριος
Category: Kingdom
[PROVISIONAL] NEW TERM. The paradoxical flourishing that belongs to those in God’s kingdom, even amid hardship (5:3-12). धिन्य readily suggests this-worldly prosperity/good fortune, colliding with Bathou household sijou-offering goals and the Kherai pantheon’s Mainao (goddess of wealth/rice). Each Beatitude must be taught as paradoxical, eschatological blessing, never a promise of material flourishing. Requires native-speaker/theologian confirmation before Phase 2 enforcement.
Inherit The Earth
Approved rendering: हादोखौ आदाबथि लाबनाय
Transliteration: hadokhou adabathi labnai
Doctrine: Beatitudes and Kingdom Blessing
Original: κληρονομήσουσιν τὴν γῆν
Category: Kingdom
NEW TERM. The eschatological renewal of creation shared by the meek under Christ’s reign (5:5). हा (‘earth’) is one of the five sacred elements (ha/earth, dwi/water, bar/air, or/fire, okhrang/sky) represented by the sijou plant’s five branches central to Bathou worship, risking an elemental-cosmology misreading; also risks a Bodoland territorial-political misreading given contemporary land/ethnic-territorial identity politics. Both risks must be named directly in teaching; never illustrate with sijou five-element imagery.
Pure In Heart
Approved rendering: गोसोनि पबित्रता
Transliteration: gwsoni pobitrota
Doctrine: Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Rejected alternatives: साफ-based rendering (physical/ritual cleanliness, never substitute)
Original: καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Inward, moral purity of motive, contrasted with the Pharisees’ outward-only purity (5:8; cf. 23:25-26). Deliberately built on पबित्र, never साफ, preserving the baseline’s reserved ritual-vs-moral purity distinction; substituting साफ would collapse the phrase into external Kherai/sijou ritual purification.
Children Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि फिसा
Transliteration: Isornni phisa
Doctrine: Beatitudes and Kingdom Blessing
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वरनि गोरा (forbidden here — reserved exclusively for Christ’s unique Sonship)
Original: υἱοὶ θεοῦ (plural, of believers)
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Believers’ derivative status as God’s children, given to peacemakers (5:9). MUST remain visibly distinct from ईश्वरनि गोरा (son_of_god), reserved exclusively for Christ’s unique, eternal, co-equal Sonship; conflating the two would blur Matthew’s own distinction (contrast 3:17/17:5 with 5:9). Also a genuine conceptual gap: Bodo clan (afad) inheritance runs through birth lineage, not a legal-adoptive category, so this must be taught, not assumed.
Persecuted
Approved rendering: उपद्रोब खालनाय
Transliteration: uprodrob khalnai
Doctrine: Persecution and Perseverance
Original: διωγμός / διώκω
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM. Hostile pressure suffered because of faith or righteous conduct (5:10-12; 10:16-23; 24:9). A live, present-tense pastoral reality for Bodo converts facing family/clan pressure to return to household sijou observance or clan ritual participation, not a hypothetical ancient scenario; must be taught with direct pastoral application.
Reward
Approved rendering: बदला
Transliteration: bodola
Doctrine: Grace versus Merit
Original: μισθός
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM. God’s gracious, promised recompense to his people (5:12,46; 6:1-6,16-18; 10:41-42; 16:27; 20:1-16). बदला strongly pulls toward a merit-transaction reading, the same collision class as the baseline’s Critical grace entry, given Brahma Dharma’s पुण्य-reward ethic and Bathou/Kherai’s reciprocal-offering logic. Must be taught as gracious recompense flowing from relationship, never earned payment, at every occurrence; the parable of the laborers (20:1-16) is the key teaching text, cross-referenced with Romans 4:4-5 and 11:5-6 already flagged in the baseline.
Mercy
Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: doya
Doctrine: Mercy and Compassion
Original: ἔλεος / ἐλεήμων
Category: Ethics
NEW TERM. Active compassion toward those in need, extended without regard to merit (5:7; 9:13; 12:7; 23:23). Related to but distinct from grace (मोफादांनाय दान); risks the same reciprocal-exchange reading via Bathou/Kherai do-ut-des logic and Brahma Dharma’s पुण्य ethic. The corrective anchor text, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice’ (9:13; 12:7, quoting Hosea 6:6), must be taught alongside this term every occurrence.
Forgive
Approved rendering: माफ खालामनाय
Transliteration: maph khalamnai
Doctrine: Forgiveness of Sins
Original: ἀφίημι / ἄφεσις
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Gracious pardon of sin, both God’s own and the interpersonal forgiveness modeled on it (6:12,14-15; 9:2-6; 18:21-35; 26:28). Distinct from, and narrower than, justification (धार्मिक होनाय राव, baseline term); must not be read as ritual absolution performed by a religious specialist. The unforgiving-servant parable (18:21-35) shows forgiveness received obligates forgiveness extended, not a reciprocal merit exchange.
Defile
Approved rendering: अपबित्र खालामनाय
Transliteration: opobitro khalamnai
Doctrine: Hypocrisy and Inward Righteousness
Original: κοινόω
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM, built by negating the baseline’s पबित्र. To make unclean; Jesus teaches that defilement comes from the heart, not external ritual observance (15:11,18,20). Must be distinguished from Bathou/Kherai’s own external, ritual purification practices — this is one of Matthew’s clearest heart-versus-ritual teaching texts.
Authority
Approved rendering: अधिकार
Transliteration: odhikar
Doctrine: The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: Christology
NEW TERM, doctrine anchor. Jesus’ own inherent, divine authority to teach, heal, forgive, and command (7:29; 8:9; 9:6,8; 10:1; 21:23-27; 28:18). Must not be read as the delegated ritual authority of a doudini (temporarily granted by Bathoubwrai during trance) or the customary authority of village/clan elders. Every occurrence applied to Jesus should be paired with a source-clause (‘his own, from the Father’); climaxes at 28:18 (‘all authority in heaven and on earth’).
Disciple
Approved rendering: सिष्य
Transliteration: sishyo
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: μαθητής
Category: Discipleship
[PROVISIONAL] NEW TERM. A committed follower who has left former life to follow Jesus specifically. सिष्य directly collides with the guru-sishyo relationship pattern central to Brahma Dharma (built around Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma as guru-figure); every occurrence must make Jesus, not a generic guru-figure, the explicit referent. Retained (not coined fresh) because no better-attested alternative exists in current Bodo Christian usage; requires native-speaker confirmation before wide deployment.
Follow
Approved rendering: उदांनाय
Transliteration: udangnai
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: ἀκολουθέω
Category: Discipleship
[PROVISIONAL] NEW TERM. To go after Jesus as a disciple (4:20,22; 8:22; 9:9; 16:24; 19:21,27-29). The object must always be specified (following Jesus specifically), paralleling the baseline’s caution for बिश्वास; unspecified ‘following’ could otherwise be read as generic discipleship to any teacher/guru figure. Requires native-speaker confirmation.
Lose Life Find Life
Approved rendering: जिउ एरनाय आरो जिउ मोननाय
Transliteration: jiu erenai aro jiu monnai
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: ἀπολέσῃ / εὑρήσει
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM. The paradox that losing one’s life for Christ’s sake is the way to truly gain it (10:39; 16:25). Must not be flattened into either pure self-sacrifice ethics divorced from resurrection hope, or a self-help ‘finding yourself’ reading.
Keys Of Kingdom
Approved rendering: राज्यनि साबियारि
Transliteration: rajyoni sabiyari
Doctrine: The Church and Church Discipline
Original: κλεῖδας τῆς βασιλείας
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Stewardship/authority entrusted to the church’s leadership (16:19). Risk of being read as a literal ritual object of power, echoing the material/object-centered character of Bathou worship (the sijou plant as a locus of ritual significance); must be taught as a metaphor for delegated spiritual authority, never a physical talisman.
Confess
Approved rendering: स्वीकार खालामनाय
Transliteration: sikar khalamnai
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: ὁμολογέω
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM. Public acknowledgment of allegiance to Jesus before others (10:32). Parallels the stakes of Romans 10:9’s Lordship confession, already Critical in the baseline; ties discipleship directly to Christology.
Love
Approved rendering: मोसाथिनाय
Transliteration: mwsathinai
Doctrine: Love of God and Neighbor
Original: ἀγάπη / ἀγαπάω
Category: Ethics
[PROVISIONAL] NEW TERM. Active, willed, covenantal love commanded toward God, neighbor, and enemy (5:44; 22:37-40). This is the summary of the whole Law (22:40); must be taught as active, willed, covenantal love modeled on God’s own character, never mere sentiment or the reciprocal-kinship affection bounded by clan (afad) loyalty. Requires native-speaker confirmation.
All Nations
Approved rendering: सर्बां जाति/जुथुद
Transliteration: sarbang jati/juthud
Doctrine: The Great Commission
Rejected alternatives: गैर-जुथुद (rejected here — too narrow, carries the specifically non-Jewish-peoples sense elsewhere in Matthew)
Original: πάντα τὰ ἔθνη
Category: Mission
NEW TERM. The universal scope of the Great Commission (28:19) — every people group without exception. Broader than गैर-जुथुद (gentiles); must preserve Matthew’s universal scope without narrowing it to the Jew/Gentile distinction, and must not be entangled with contemporary Bodoland ethnic-territorial identity politics.
Transfigured
Approved rendering: रुप सोलायनाय
Transliteration: rup solainai
Doctrine: Transfiguration and the Glory of Christ
Original: μεταμορφόω
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. The temporary revelatory unveiling of Christ’s already-present divine glory (17:2). Distinct from incarnation (a permanent assumption of human nature) — this is a temporary unveiling, not a change of nature or a repeatable deity-descent event, and must not be assimilated to a doudini’s altered ritual trance-state.
Will Of The Father
Approved rendering: आफानि मन
Transliteration: afani mon
Doctrine: Providence and Care of God
Rejected alternatives: भागी (fate, never use)
Original: θέλημα
Category: God
NEW TERM. God’s personal, relational intention, modeled by Jesus’ own submission in Gethsemane (7:21; 26:39,42). God’s will is personal, relational intention, never an impersonal fate/cosmic order, echoing the baseline’s caution against भागी for election/providence.
Medium Risk Terms
Church
Approved rendering: मण्डली
Transliteration: mwndoli
Doctrine: The Church and Church Discipline
Rejected alternatives: नमासोलि (Bathou/Kherai shrine site or worship ground, never use)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package exactly. First named by Jesus at 16:18 and given disciplinary procedure at 18:15-20; must remain clearly distinct from नमासोलि.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि राज्य
Transliteration: Isornni rajyo
Doctrine: The Kingdom of Heaven
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew’s rarer variant phrase (θεοῦ) alongside his preferred ‘kingdom of heaven’ (οὐρανῶν); render only where the Greek text itself uses θεοῦ (6:33; 12:28; 19:24; 21:31,43) to preserve Matthew’s own likely-stylistic distinction from the new term kingdom_of_heaven — do not harmonize the two.
Gentiles
Approved rendering: गैर-जुथुद
Transliteration: goir-juthud
Doctrine: Transfer of Kingdom Stewardship / Unity of Jew and Gentile
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Contrasted with Israel in Matthew’s ministry-scope statements (4:15; 10:5-6,18; 12:18,21; 15:24; 20:19,25). IMPORTANT: at 28:19 the same Greek word ἔθνη is used in a broader, universal sense (‘all nations’) — do NOT use गैर-जुथुद there; use the new term all_nations instead.
David
Approved rendering: दाऊद
Transliteration: Daud
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: Δαυίδ
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Foundational to Matthew’s opening genealogy (1:1-17) and the recurring Son of David title (see new term son_of_david).
Israel
Approved rendering: इस्राएल
Transliteration: Israel
Doctrine: Transfer of Kingdom Stewardship / Unity of Jew and Gentile
Original: Ἰσραήλ
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package exactly. The covenant people descended from Jacob (2:6,20-21; 8:10; 9:33; 10:6,23; 15:24,31; 19:28; 27:9,42).
Apostle
Approved rendering: गोदान जायगारि
Transliteration: godan jaigari
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Rejected alternatives: दूत (generic messenger, too weak)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package exactly. The Twelve are named at 10:2; distinguish their unique, foundational commissioning from ordinary discipleship (see new term disciple, सिष्य).
Intercession
Approved rendering: मोनसे नि थाखाय बिनयनाय
Transliteration: monse ni thakhai binoinai
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Original: προσεύχομαι (used intercessorily, e.g. 5:44)
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Prayer offered on behalf of others, including one’s enemies (5:44) and Jesus’ own Gethsemane prayer (26:39-44). Distinguish from petitions traditionally carried to Bathoubwrai or the Kherai pantheon through a doudini or ओझा ritual specialist.
Mission
Approved rendering: मंगल खबरनि दायो
Transliteration: mangal khaborni dayo
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Original: cf. ἐργάται (9:37-38), ἀποστέλλω (10:5)
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Covers the sending of the Twelve (ch. 10) and the Great Commission (28:18-20). Given the history of American Baptist mission work among the Bodo becoming entangled in local memory with colonial-era administration, frame evangelism as the church’s own ongoing calling, never a foreign historical project.
Peace
Approved rendering: सान्ति
Transliteration: santi
Doctrine: The Church and Church Discipline
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Matthew 10:34’s paradoxical ‘I have not come to bring peace, but a sword’ describes the social cost of discipleship, not a contradiction of Christ’s peace-bringing mission; distinguish both this and the new term ‘peacemakers’ from household harmony sought through Bathou/Kherai offerings.
Poor In Spirit
Approved rendering: आत्मायाव गरीब
Transliteration: aatmayao gorib
Doctrine: Beatitudes and Kingdom Blessing
Original: πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι
Category: Kingdom
NEW TERM. Recognition of one’s total spiritual need before God (5:3). गरीब alone risks being read as literal economic poverty; आत्मायाव (‘in spirit’) must always be retained together with it, never dropped in speech or paraphrase.
Meek
Approved rendering: नम्र
Transliteration: nomro
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: πραΰς
Category: Discipleship
[PROVISIONAL] NEW TERM. Strength held under God’s control, not weakness; used of Jesus himself (11:29; 21:5). नम्र may be heard as passivity or social weakness in a culture that also values honor and standing; must be taught as strength submitted to God, following Jesus’ own self-description. Requires native-speaker confirmation.
Peacemakers
Approved rendering: सान्ति होनाय मानुष
Transliteration: santi honai manwsw
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: εἰρηνοποιοί
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM. Those who actively create reconciliation between people (5:9). Distinguish from mediated household-harmony functions traditionally sought through Bathou/Kherai ritual specialists; here peace is actively made by the believer’s own reconciling action, modeled on God’s character.
Hypocrite
Approved rendering: कपटी
Transliteration: kopoti
Doctrine: Hypocrisy and Inward Righteousness
Original: ὑποκριτής
Category: Ethics
NEW TERM. One who performs religious acts outwardly without inward sincerity (6:2,5,16; 15:7; 23:13-29). Standard loanword; teaching note should distinguish outward religious performance from inward sincerity, a theme recurring through chs. 6, 15, and 23.
Pharisees Scribes
Approved rendering: फरीसी / व्यवस्था गुरु
Transliteration: Pharisi / byabostha guru
Doctrine: Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Original: Φαρισαῖοι / γραμματεῖς
Category: History
NEW TERM. First-century Jewish socio-religious teaching classes, frequent opponents of Jesus. Avoid mapping onto existing Bodo religious-specialist roles (ओझा, doudini, or Brahma Dharma reform-teachers); requires historical explanation, not a ready cultural equivalent. Must not be reduced to a simplistic villain-caricature.
Sabbath
Approved rendering: सबथ (आरामनि दिन)
Transliteration: sabath (aramni din)
Doctrine: Sabbath and the Law
Original: σάββατον
Category: Covenant
NEW TERM. The weekly covenant day of rest, subject of controversy in Matthew 12. No ready Bodo cultural institution parallels the covenantal Sabbath; must be taught with Old Testament covenant background and distinguished from the Kherai puja’s own occasional ritual-calendar festival observances, which are occasional, not weekly.
Mammon
Approved rendering: मामोन
Transliteration: mamon
Doctrine: Wealth and Mammon
Original: μαμωνᾷ
Category: Ethics
NEW TERM, transliterated. Wealth personified as a rival master to God (6:24). Relevant given the Kherai pantheon’s Mainao (goddess of wealth/rice) — must be clear this teaching addresses wealth’s idolatrous pull generally, not a direct polemic against Mainao specifically, though the resonance is worth naming in teaching notes.
Mysteries Of Kingdom
Approved rendering: राज्यनि सोलोंथाव राव
Transliteration: rajyoni solongthau rao
Doctrine: The Kingdom of Heaven
Original: μυστήρια
Category: Kingdom
NEW TERM. Hidden truths of the kingdom disclosed by Jesus in parables (13:11). Risk of collision with the ओझा’s own claim to secret ritual knowledge/lore; must be taught as revealed truth graciously disclosed by God, never esoteric knowledge reserved for a ritual-specialist elite.
Woe
Approved rendering: दुखनि रां
Transliteration: dukhoni rang
Doctrine: Hypocrisy and Inward Righteousness
Original: οὐαί
Category: Judgment
NEW TERM. Solemn prophetic judgment-speech pronounced against the Pharisees and scribes (23:13-29). Old Testament-style prophetic judgment-speech; must not be softened into mere expression of sadness — it carries the force of solemn divine indictment.
Watch Be Ready
Approved rendering: जागोन थानाय
Transliteration: jagwn thanai
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Original: γρηγορέω
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Vigilant readiness for Christ’s return (24:42-44; 25:13). Standard vigilance vocabulary; ties to the assurance/providence doctrines already in the baseline, applied here to eschatological readiness rather than present assurance.
Harvest Laborers
Approved rendering: सोलेर / सेवारी
Transliteration: soleir / sewari
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Original: θερισμός / ἐργάται
Category: Mission
NEW TERM. The image of a plentiful harvest needing workers, motivating the sending of the Twelve (9:37-38). Should be framed as the church’s own present calling, not a foreign historical missionary project, per the baseline’s mission-framing caution.
Cornerstone
Approved rendering: मुल हातर
Transliteration: mul hatwr
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Original: κεφαλὴ γωνίας
Category: Scripture
NEW TERM. Christ as the rejected-yet-foundational stone (21:42, citing Psalm 118). Requires Old Testament background teaching rather than posing a comparative-religion collision per se.
Perfect
Approved rendering: पूरा
Transliteration: pura
Doctrine: Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Original: τέλειος
Category: Ethics
NEW TERM. Wholehearted, mature covenant faithfulness modeled on God’s own character (5:48; 19:21). Must be taught as wholehearted covenant faithfulness, avoiding both a legalistic flawless-achievement misreading and confusion with Brahma Dharma’s perfectibility-through-reform ethic.
Oath
Approved rendering: सत्य राव
Transliteration: (descriptive)
Doctrine: The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Original: ὅρκος
Category: Ethics
NEW TERM. A sworn statement; Jesus forbids oath-taking in favor of simple truthfulness (5:33-37). Standard concept; minor honor/truth-telling cultural note rather than a comparative-religion collision.
Wrath
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गुसा
Transliteration: Isornni gusa
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Original: ὀργή
Category: God
NEW TERM. God’s righteous, moral, judicial response to sin (‘wrath to come,’ 3:7). Must be taught as God’s personal, moral, judicial response to sin, tied to the Judgment and End of Age doctrine — never an impersonal cosmic disturbance.
Temptation
Approved rendering: फांसनाय
Transliteration: phansenai
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: πειρασμός / πειράζω
Category: Discipleship
[PROVISIONAL] NEW TERM. Testing or trial, as endured by Jesus in the wilderness (4:1-11) and prayed against in the Lord’s Prayer (6:13). Standard concept with low comparative-religion collision, but should be distinguished from fatalistic ‘testing by spirits’ folk-belief framings.
Judge
Approved rendering: सायख होनाय
Transliteration: saikho honai
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Original: κρίνω
Category: Judgment
NEW TERM. To pass judgment; Jesus warns against human condemnation of others while affirming God’s own prerogative to judge (7:1-5). Draws on the same root as the baseline’s election term ईश्वरनि सायख; distinguish God’s prerogative to judge from human condemnation of others.
Yoke And Rest
Approved rendering: गुरार (yoke) / सान्ति मोननाय (rest)
Transliteration: gurar / santi monnai
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Original: ζυγός / ἀνάπαυσις
Category: Discipleship
NEW TERM. Jesus’ ‘easy’ yoke and promised rest, contrasted with legalistic, rule-intensive religious systems (11:28-30). Rest deliberately reuses the सान्ति-family rendering used for ‘comforted’ (5:4), since both describe God’s personal relational comfort; the yoke image contrasts with Brahma Dharma’s own codified rule-observance ethic.
Low Risk Terms
Prophet
Approved rendering: भाबिष्यत सोंग्रा
Transliteration: bhabishyot songra
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: ओझा (a traditional folk ritual specialist/diviner, never use)
Original: προφήτης
Category: Scripture
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Cited repeatedly in Matthew’s fulfillment formula (1:22; 2:5,15,17,23; 3:3; 5:12,17; 8:17; 11:9,13; 12:17,39; 13:35,57; 21:4,11,26,46; 23:29-37; 24:11,15,24; 26:56; 27:9). Never ओझा.
Prophecy
Approved rendering: भाबिष्यत रां
Transliteration: bhabishyot rang
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Original: προφητεία

Exhort
Approved rendering: गोसो होनाय
Transliteration: gwsw honai
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: παρακαλέω
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package exactly. Shares its root with the Beatitudes’ ‘comforted’ (5:4, cf. 11:28-29’s ‘rest’).
