Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Gospel of John (English → Bodo)
This glossary catalogs every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning all 21 chapters of John. Terms marked [BASELINE REUSE] are carried unchanged from the Romans translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json and MUST NOT be altered. Terms marked [NEW] are proposed for addition to the translation memory pending the confirmation noted for each. Risk tiers follow the baseline’s four-tier framework (Critical/High/Medium/Low) and drive the same review routing (Critical/High → human theologian; Medium → native speaker; Low → automated).

B. New Terms Introduced by John (Proposed Additions to Translation Memory)
| # | English Term | Original (Greek) | Transliteration | Bodo Rendering | Bodo Transliteration | Doctrine | Risk | Status | Primary Passages | Rationale / Comparative-Religion Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Word (Logos) | λόγος | logos | राव | rao | Deity and Pre-existence of Christ | Critical | Provisional — theologian confirmation required | 1:1,14 | Genuine conceptual gap: Bathou tradition is oral/ritual with no personal, pre-existent creative “Word” concept; worship is aniconic (sijou plant). Must be taught from the ground up, not assimilated. |
| 2 | Born again / born from above | γεννηθῇ ἄνωθεν | gennēthē anōthen | आत्मानिफ्राय नोतुन जोनोम | aatmanifrai notun jonom | New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit | Critical | Provisional — highest-priority theologian confirmation | 3:3,5,7 | NEVER फिन जोनोम (forbidden — rebirth/reincarnation, Brahma Dharma-derived). Built on नोतुन (new) not फिन (again) to structurally block a cyclical-rebirth reading; the risk is sharper here than for “resurrection” because Nicodemus’s own question raises the literal-rebirth misreading explicitly. |
| 3 | Spirit/wind wordplay | πνεῦμα | pneuma | आत्मा / बार (context-dependent) | aatma / bar | New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit | Critical | Flag — mandatory translator note required | 3:5,8 | बार (“wind/air”) is one of Bathouism’s five sacred elements (ha/dwi/bar/or/okhrang) symbolized by the sijou plant’s branches. Rendering the wind/Spirit wordplay risks the Spirit’s sovereign personal work being absorbed into Bathou’s elemental cosmology. |
| 4 | Eternal life | ζωὴ αἰώνιος | zōē aiōnios | मोनथिनाय जिउनाय | monthinai jiunai | Eternal Life through Faith in Christ | Critical | Provisional — theologian confirmation required | 3:15-16,36; 4:14,36; 5:24,39; 6:27,40,47,54,68; 10:28; 12:25,50; 17:2-3; 20:31 | Must not be assimilated to मोक्ष (Brahma Dharma liberation, forbidden per baseline salvation entry); a fresh, qualitatively-new-life category to be taught explicitly. |
| 5 | God’s love | ἀγάπη / ἀγαπάω | agapē / agapaō | प्रेम | prem | God’s Love for the World | High | New | 3:16; 13:1,34; 14:15,21,23; 15:9-13; 17:23-26; 21:15-17 | Must precede and cause, not respond to earned merit or reciprocal ritual offering — mirrors the “grace” risk profile already documented in the baseline. |
| 6 | The world (dual sense) | κόσμος | kosmos | जगत | jagat | (cross-cutting: Deity of Christ / God’s Love / Judgment) | High | New | 1:9-10; 3:16-19; 7:7; 12:31,47; 14:17,30; 15:18-19; 16:11,33; 17:14-16,25 | Bipolar sense (creation God loves ↔ system opposed to God) requires context-by-context disambiguation; check every occurrence. |
| 7 | Only, one-of-a-kind (Son) | μονογενής | monogenēs | गेजेरसिन गोरा | gejersin gwra | Sonship of Christ (extends baseline) | Critical | New | 1:14,18; 3:16,18 | Rules out any reading of Christ as one divine/semi-divine figure among the Bathou pantheon’s many members. |
| 8 | Judgment | κρίσις / κρίνω | krisis / krinō | बिसार | bisar | Judgment and Belief/Unbelief | Critical | New | 3:17-19; 5:22-30; 8:15-16; 9:39; 12:31,47-48; 16:8,11 | Must be God’s personal righteous judicial verdict, not impersonal karma (Brahma Dharma) nor भागी/fate (already forbidden in baseline for election/providence). |
| 9 | Light | φῶς | phōs | उजवाल | ujwal | Judgment and Belief/Unbelief; Seven “I Am” Statements | Critical | New | 1:4-9; 3:19-21; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35-36,46 | Fresh category requiring explicit teaching; aniconic Bathou worship provides no embodied-light-deity concept to either borrow from or guard against, but okhrang (sky) as a sacred element requires care that “light” not be read elementally. |
| 10 | Darkness | σκότος / σκοτία | skotos / skotia | आंधार | andhar | Judgment and Belief/Unbelief | Critical | New | 1:5; 3:19; 8:12; 12:35,46 | Moral rejection of Christ, not mere absence of illumination. |
| 11 | Wrath of God | ὀργὴ τοῦ θεοῦ | orgē tou theou | ईश्वरनि क्रोध | Isornni krodh | Judgment and Belief/Unbelief | Critical | New | 3:36 | Mirror-image risk to “grace”: must not be taught as an appeasable deity-temper manageable through ritual offering or accumulated merit. |
| 12 | Worship | προσκυνέω | proskyneō | ईश्वरनि सेवा खालामनाय | Isornni sewa khalamnai | (cross-cutting; Deity of Christ at 9:38) | Critical | New | 4:20-24; 9:38; 12:20 | NEVER पूजा — the literal name of the Kherai puja festival (trance-based communal Bathou ritual). |
| 13 | Savior of the world | σωτὴρ τοῦ κόσμου | sōtēr tou kosmou | जगतनि फोरायग्रा | jagatni phoraygra | Eternal Life; Salvation (baseline extension) | Critical | New | 4:42 | Distinct from a protector-deity role (Bathoubwrai/Kherai pantheon’s this-worldly protection function); unique, exclusive, eschatological Savior. |
| 14 | Equal with God | ἴσος τῷ θεῷ | isos tō theō | ईश्वरजों समान | Isorjw saman | Deity and Pre-existence of Christ | Critical | New | 5:18 | Direct reinforcement of full co-equal deity; never softened. |
| 15 | Son of Man | υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου | huios tou anthrōpou | मानसि गोरा | manwsi gwra | Deity and Pre-existence of Christ; Judgment | Critical | New | 1:51; 3:13-14; 5:27; 6:27,53,62; 8:28; 9:35; 12:23,34; 13:31 | Distinct from ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God, baseline); holds together genuine humanity and exalted heavenly authority to judge. |
| 16 | Lifted up (cross/exalted) | ὑψωθῆναι | hypsōthēnai | उच्ठायनाय (+ mandatory note) | ucthainai | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | Critical | New | 3:14; 8:28; 12:32-34 | Deliberate double meaning (crucified / exalted) must be preserved via translator note; consistency required across all three occurrences. |
| 17 | ”I Am” (absolute/formula) | ἐγώ εἰμι | egō eimi | आं…जायो (provisional) | ang… jayw | The Seven “I Am” Statements | Critical | Provisional — theologian confirmation required before any deployment | 6:35; 8:12,58; 10:7,9,11,14; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1,5; 18:5-6,8 | Echoes the divine self-naming of Exodus 3:14 (LXX ἐγώ εἰμι); must never be flattened to ordinary self-description. |
| 18 | Bread of life | ἄρτος τῆς ζωῆς | artos tēs zōēs | जिउनि रोटी | jiuni roti | Seven “I Am” Statements | High | New | 6:35,48,51 | Manna typology needs explicit OT background teaching. |
| 19 | Shepherd (Good Shepherd) | ποιμὴν (καλός) | poimēn (kalos) | राखाल | rakhal | Seven “I Am” Statements | Medium | Provisional — native-speaker confirmation | 10:2,11,14,16; 21:15-17 | Standard regional loanword; low syncretism risk, mainly naturalness check needed. |
| 20 | Door / gate | θύρα | thyra | दुवार | duar | Seven “I Am” Statements | Low-Medium | New | 10:1-2,7,9 | Standard loanword; low risk. |
| 21 | The true vine | ἄμπελος (ἀληθινή) | ampelos (alēthinē) | अंगुर बिजाब | angur bijab | Seven “I Am” Statements; Christian Identity in Christ | Medium | Provisional — native-speaker confirmation | 15:1,4-5 | Grape cultivation not native to Bodo agrarian context; teach the horticultural image explicitly. |
| 22 | Way, truth, life | ὁδός / ἀλήθεια / ζωή | hodos / alētheia / zōē | लामा / सत्य / जिउनाय | lama / satyo / jiunai | Seven “I Am” Statements | Critical | New | 14:6 | Exclusivity claim (“no one comes to the Father except through me”) must not be softened. |
| 23 | Lay down (one’s) life | τίθημι τὴν ψυχήν | tithēmi tēn psychēn | जिउ होनाय | jiu honai | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | Critical | New | 10:11,15,17-18; 15:13 | Voluntary self-giving, not a ritual sacrifice extracted by an appeasement-seeking deity. |
| 24 | I and the Father are one | ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἕν ἐσμεν | egō kai ho patēr hen esmen | आं आरो आफा मोनसे जायो | ang aro afa monse jayw | Unity of the Father and the Son | Critical | New | 10:30; cf. 17:11,21-22 | Founding text for the Unity doctrine; must avoid both under-reading (mere agreement) and over-reading (modalist collapse). |
| 25 | Sanctify / consecrate (Christ’s own) | ἁγιάζω | hagiazō | पबित्र खालामनाय (root) | pobitro khalamnai | Unity of the Father and the Son; Sanctification (baseline extension) | High | Extended | 10:36; 17:17,19 | Distinct referent (Father setting apart the Son for mission) from believer-sanctification sense already in baseline; flag in teaching notes. |
| 26 | Resurrection and the life | ἀνάστασις καὶ ζωή (as “I Am”) | anastasis kai zōē | जिउनाय सोलायनाय आरो जिउनाय | jiunai solainai aro jiunai | Seven “I Am” Statements; Eternal Life | Critical | Extended | 11:25 | Distinguish Lazarus’s temporary raising, Christ’s own resurrection, and believers’ final resurrection — three referents sharing one term family. |
| 27 | One man dies for the people (substitution) | εἷς ἄνθρωπος ἀποθάνῃ ὑπὲρ τοῦ λαοῦ | heis anthrōpos apothanē hyper tou laou | जिउ होनाय (ठाखाय) | jiu honai (thakhai) | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | High | New | 11:50-52 | Early textual anchor for substitutionary doctrine; consistent ὑπέρ (“for/on behalf of”) rendering required across 10:11; 15:13; 19. |
| 28 | New commandment | ἐντολὴ καινή | entolē kainē | नोतुन आदेश | notun adesh | (supports God’s Love for the World) | High | New | 13:34 | Uses आदेश (command), deliberately distinct from बिथान (Mosaic Law, baseline), since this is new alongside, not identical to, the Law. |
| 29 | The Counselor / Advocate / Helper | παράκλητος | paraklētos | गोसो होग्रा | gwsw hogra | The Holy Spirit as Counselor | Critical | New — built directly on baseline “exhort” root | 14:16,26; 15:26; 16:7 | Always paired with, never a substitute for, पबित्र आत्था. NEVER illustrated by comparison to doudini spirit-possession — the Counselor permanently indwells and teaches; he does not seize/possess. |
| 30 | Convict (of sin) | ἐλέγχω | elegchō | गुनाह फोरनाय | gunah phornai | The Holy Spirit as Counselor; Judgment | High | New | 3:20; 16:8 | Matched pair across 3:20 and 16:8; teach together for consistency. |
| 31 | Overcome the world | νενίκηκα τὸν κόσμον | nenikēka ton kosmon | जगतखौ जीनाय | jagatkhow jinai | (supports Judgment; Assurance-adjacent) | High | New | 16:33 | Negative/hostile sense of κόσμος (jagat) must be retained here, contrasted with its positive sense at 3:16. |
| 32 | Before the foundation of the world | πρὸ τοῦ τὸν κόσμον εἶναι | pro tou ton kosmon einai | जगत सोरजिनायनि सिगां | jagat sworjinaini sigang | Deity and Pre-existence of Christ | Critical | New | 17:5,24 | Clearest single pre-existence statement alongside 1:1 and 8:58; mandatory theologian review. |
| 33 | That they may be one | ἵνα ὦσιν ἕν | hina ōsin hen | मोनसे जायो (जानाय) | monse jayw (janai) | Unity of the Father and the Son (extended to believers) | Critical | Extended | 17:11,21-22 | Distinguish believers’ relational/moral unity from Father-Son ontological unity — same Bodo term (मोनसे) must not flatten the distinction. |
| 34 | Cross / crucify | σταυρός / σταυρόω | stauros / stauroō | क्रूस / क्रूसाव लाबनाय | krus / krusao labanai | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | Critical | New — absent from Romans baseline entirely | 19:6,16-18,23,25,31-41 | Standard regional transliterated loan; teach as real, historical, unrepeatable execution — not symbolic or ritually re-enactable. |
| 35 | It is finished | τετέλεσται | tetelestai | पूरा जाबाय | pura jabai | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | Critical | New | 19:30 | Once-for-all completion; no supplementary ritual required — counters any assimilation to repeatable offering cycles. |
| 36 | My Lord and my God | ὁ κύριος μου καὶ ὁ θεός μου | ho kyrios mou kai ho theos mou | मोर प्रभु आरो मोर ईश्वर | mor probhu aro mor Isor | Deity of Christ (baseline extension); Unity of the Father and the Son | Critical | Extended, verbatim-fixed | 20:28 | Combines two baseline [Critical] terms into the Gospel’s strongest direct confession; render exactly and consistently, parallel to Romans 10:9. |
| 37 | Children of God | τέκνα θεοῦ | tekna theou | ईश्वरनि गोंसे | Isornni gwnse | Adoption into God’s Family (baseline extension) | High | New — distinct Greek root from Romans’ υἱοθεσία | 1:12; 11:52 | Teach alongside, not as a replacement for, गोसोआव फैनाय (adoption, baseline), which supplies the full legal inheritance-rights sense. |
| 38 | Sign | σημεῖον | sēmeion | सक्तिनि निसान | saktini nishan | (supports Deity of Christ; Belief/Unbelief) | High | New | 2:11,23; 3:2; 4:54; 6:2,14,26,30; 7:31; 9:16; 10:41; 11:47; 12:18,37; 20:30 | Must point to Christ’s identity, never confused with देउनि सक्ति (doudini’s mediumistic trance power, already forbidden in baseline). |
| 39 | Testimony / witness | μαρτυρία / μαρτυρέω | martyria / martyreō | साक्ष्य | sakkhyo | (supports Inspiration of Scripture; Deity of Christ) | High | New | 1:7-8,15,19,32,34; 3:11,32-33; 5:31-39; 8:13-18; 15:26-27; 19:35; 21:24 | Truthful eyewitness reporting, distinguished from divinatory pronouncement (doudini/ओझा), per the pattern already established in baseline for “prophecy.” |
| 40 | Draw | ἑλκύω | helkyō | टानाय | tanai | Eternal Life through Faith in Christ (Election, baseline extension) | High | New | 6:44,65; 12:32 | Parallels baseline’s Effectual Calling; avoid भागी (fate) misreading. |
| 41 | Freed / liberated (from sin) | ἐλευθερόω | eleutheroō | मुक्त होनाय | mukto honai | (supports New Birth; Judgment) | High | New | 8:32,36 | Must not slide toward मोक्ष-style cosmological liberation (forbidden per baseline salvation entry); freedom here is moral-relational (from slavery to sin), not cyclical. |
| 42 | Slave of sin | δοῦλος τῆς ἁμαρτίας | doulos tēs hamartias | गुनाहनि गुलाम | gunahni gulam | (supports Judgment and Belief/Unbelief) | Medium | New | 8:34 | Builds on गुनाह (baseline sin) + गुलाम (servant/slave, common loan). |
| 43 | Before Abraham was, I AM | πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγὼ εἰμί | prin Abraam genesthai egō eimi | अब्राहाम जोनोमनि सिगां आं जायो | Abraham jonomni sigang ang jayw | Deity and Pre-existence of Christ | Critical | Provisional — mandatory theologian review at every occurrence | 8:58 | Direct echo of the divine self-naming at Exodus 3:14 (LXX); must not be reduced to mere temporal priority. |
| 44 | Living water | ὕδωρ ζῶν | hydōr zōn | जिउनाय दैथाय | jiunai daithai | (supports Holy Spirit as Counselor) | High | New | 4:10-14; 7:38 | Metaphor for the Spirit’s life-giving work (confirmed at 7:39); not a ritual-water practice. |
| 45 | Temple | ναός / ἱερόν | naos / hieron | मंदिर | mandir | (supports Deity of Christ; Christ’s body as temple) | High | New — heavy explanatory framing required, not a simple substitution | 2:14-21 | Both poles of comparison (Jerusalem temple; Christ’s body) lack a ready Bathou equivalent (aniconic, no built temple); teach rather than translate around. |
| 46 | Wonders/miraculous power (forbidden contrast term) | δύναμις (contrast) | dynamis | (n/a — used only to define सक्तिनि निसान by contrast) | — | (supports Sign entry above) | High | Reference only | throughout | Reinforces baseline’s already-forbidden देउनि सक्ति for any Spirit/sign-power rendering. |
| 47 | Ruler of this world (Satan) | ὁ ἄρχων τοῦ κόσμου τούτου | ho archōn tou kosmou toutou | बे जगतनि मुखिया | be jagatni mukhiya | (supports Judgment) | Medium | New | 12:31; 14:30; 16:11 | Distinguish from legitimate human government (Romans 13, baseline-flagged topic) and from Bathou-pantheon nature-spirits, which are not moral-evil figures in the way Satan is presented here. |
| 48 | Bridegroom | νυμφίος | nymphios | बिबार्नि सिगांथारि | bibarni sigangthari | (minor, John the Baptist’s self-effacement) | Medium | Provisional — native-speaker confirmation | 3:29 | Natural wedding-custom metaphor; low doctrinal risk, mainly naturalness check. |
| 49 | Betray | παραδίδωμι | paradidōmi | धोका होनाय | dhoka honai | (supports Christ’s Substitutionary Death) | Medium | New | 6:64,71; 12:4; 13:2,11,21; 18:2,5,36; 19:11,16 | Standard loanword; low syncretism risk. |
| 50 | Fondness / affection (contrast to prem) | φιλέω | phileō | मोसोन्दो | mwswndo | (nuance within God’s Love for the World) | Medium | Provisional — theologian confirmation on whether to preserve distinction | 21:15-17; also 11:3,36; 16:27 | Distinct Greek verb from ἀγαπάω/prem; Bodo base text likely cannot preserve the distinction, but study-note commentary should. |
C. Terms Flagged for Chapters with Primarily Reused Vocabulary
- John 21: introduces only the ἀγαπάω/φιλέω nuance (#50 above); otherwise fully reuses shepherd (राखाल, #19), resurrection (जिउनाय सोलायनाय, baseline), and testimony (साक्ष्य, #39) vocabulary already established in chapters 10, 20, and 1/3 respectively. Reviewed; no other new terms.
- John 9: introduces no wholly new lexical term beyond extending προσκυνέω (#12, worship) to a new referent (Jesus as recipient); reuses φῶς (#9, light) from chapter 8 and κρίσις (#8, judgment) from chapter 3/5. Reviewed; treated as an extension chapter.
- John 7: introduces no wholly new lexical term; extends ὕδωρ ζῶν (#44, living water, from ch.4) and ὥρα (from ch.2) toward their fuller ch.14-16 and ch.12 payoffs respectively. Reviewed; treated as a bridge chapter.
D. Risk Tier Summary (John-Specific New Terms Only)
| Risk Tier | Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 24 | Human theologian (mandatory) |
| High | 16 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 8 | Native speaker |
| Low / Low-Medium | 2 | Native speaker or automated |
| Total new terms | 50 | — |
Combined with the 22 reused baseline terms cited in Section A, this glossary covers 72 distinct load-bearing terms across the whole Gospel of John, anchored by the 21-verse Core Passage (John 3:1-21) treatment in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md.
Critical Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: ईश्वर
Transliteration: Isor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (never use)
Original: θεός / אֱלֹהִים / יהוה
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly. John 1:1’s grammar (‘the Word was God,’ no definite article before θεός) must not be softened to ‘the Word was a god’ or merely ‘divine’ in a weakened sense (cf. the Watchtower/NWT pattern, which must never be echoed).
Jesus
Approved rendering: जिसु
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς / יֵשׁוּעַ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package; retained throughout John. Verify against a current printed Bodo Bible before finalizing.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: pobitro aatha
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit as Counselor
Rejected alternatives: देउ (never), बुरहा-बुरही आत्था (never)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; must always appear in full, never bare आत्था/देउ. Especially urgent at John 3:5-8, where the Spirit/wind wordplay could otherwise dissolve the Spirit’s personal identity into an impersonal element.
Father
Approved rendering: आफा
Transliteration: afa
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (never)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. John 17:11’s ‘Holy Father’ (पबित्र + आफा) must be rendered with care so the compound does not suggest an inherited elder-deity title parallel to बाथौबुरै.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: probhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बर’ऐ/बुरहा (never)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Climaxes in Thomas’s confession (John 20:28); never render with the honorific elder-titles reserved for Bathoubwrai and the Kherai pantheon.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गोरा
Transliteration: Isornni gwra
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देवता गोरा (never)
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Distinguish sharply from the new John term मानसि गोरा (Son of Man) — together the two titles hold Christ’s full deity and full humanity.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: जिउनाय सोलायनाय
Transliteration: jiunai solainai
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम (never)
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. See resurrection_and_life below for the three distinct referents (Lazarus, Christ, believers) that share this term family in John 5:29; 11:24-25; chs.20-21.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: मानसि गुदि सोलायनाय
Transliteration: manwsi gudi solainai
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: देउनि आगोर (never)
Original: ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. John 1:14 is the direct source text for this doctrine; must be sharply distinguished from Kherai-trance doudini possession.
Grace
Approved rendering: मोफादांनाय दान
Transliteration: mwphwdangnai daan
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: दान गोरोबनाय, पुण्य (never)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Forms a fixed phrase with the new term सत्य (truth) at John 1:14,17 (‘grace and truth’).
Salvation
Approved rendering: फोरायनाय
Transliteration: phoraynai
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (never), रैखाथि (never)
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. John pairs this concept tightly with the new term ‘eternal life’ — teach the two together.
Messiah
Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: mosih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός / מָשִׁיחַ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. 1:20,25,41; 4:25-29,42; 7:26-41; 9:22; 10:24; 11:27; 20:31.
Word Logos
Approved rendering: राव
Transliteration: rao
Doctrine: The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ (the Word)
Rejected alternatives: लोगोस (transliteration, rejected as doctrinally opaque), वचन (Hindi-loan gloss, avoid as primary)
Original: λόγος
Category: Christology
Provisional, requires Bodo-speaking theologian confirmation. John 1:1,14. Genuine conceptual gap: Bathou tradition is oral/ritual and aniconic, with no personal, pre-existent, creative ‘Word’ concept. Must be used as a titled designation and taught from the ground up. Must never be rendered as ‘a god’ (cf. forbidden NWT pattern).
Lamb Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि भेडा गोरा
Transliteration: Isornni bheda gwra
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Original: ἀμνὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Salvation
Provisional pending confirmation of भेडा गोरा as the natural Bodo term for a young lamb. John 1:29,36; fulfilled 19:33-36. Requires explicit Passover Old Testament background teaching. Must be taught as Christ’s own once-for-all substitutionary sacrifice, decisively not a repeatable appeasement offering paralleling traditional Bathou/Kherai animal offerings.
Born Again
Approved rendering: आत्मानिफ्राय नोतुन जोनोम
Transliteration: aatmanifrai notun jonom
Doctrine: The New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम (NEVER — forbidden rebirth/reincarnation term, Brahma Dharma-derived)
Original: γεννηθῇ ἄνωθεν
Category: New Birth
John 3:3,5,7. The single highest-stakes rendering decision in the John curriculum. Built on नोतुन (new) rather than फिन (again/return) to structurally block a cyclical-rebirth reading. Nicodemus’s own question (3:4) explicitly raises, and Jesus explicitly rejects, a literal rebirth reading. Provisional; requires theologian confirmation before deployment.
Spirit Wind Wordplay
Approved rendering: आत्मा / बार
Transliteration: aatma / bar
Doctrine: The New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit
Original: πνεῦμα
Category: New Birth
John 3:5,8. बार is explicitly one of Bathouism’s five sacred elements (ha/dwi/bar/or/okhrang) symbolized by the sijou plant’s branches. Mandatory translator note required at every occurrence distinguishing the Spirit’s sovereign, personal, imperceptible work from an elemental force.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: मोनथिनाय जिउनाय
Transliteration: monthinai jiunai
Doctrine: Eternal Life through Faith in Christ
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (NEVER)
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Salvation
Provisional, requires theologian confirmation. 3:15-16,36; 5:24,39; 6:27,40,47,54,68; 10:28; 17:2-3; 20:31. A qualitatively new kind of life, not merely unending duration; built on जिउनाय (life, shared root with resurrection). Must never be assimilated to मोक्ष, already forbidden per the baseline’s salvation entry.
Only Begotten
Approved rendering: गेजेरसिन गोरा
Transliteration: gejersin gwra
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Original: μονογενής
Category: Christology
John 1:14,18; 3:16,18. Built on baseline गोरा. Must rule out any reading of Christ as one divine/semi-divine figure among the many recognized in the Bathou pantheon.
Judgment
Approved rendering: बिसार
Transliteration: bisar
Doctrine: Judgment and Belief/Unbelief
Rejected alternatives: भागी (never)
Original: κρίσις / κρίνω
Category: Judgment
Assamese-derived loan. Must never be conflated with impersonal karma-based cosmic reckoning (live risk given Brahma Dharma’s karma-oriented ethics) nor with भागी (fate, already forbidden in baseline for election/providence). 3:17-19; 5:22-30; 8:15-16; 9:39; 12:31,47-48; 16:8,11.
Light
Approved rendering: उजवाल
Transliteration: ujwal
Doctrine: Light and Darkness; Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Original: φῶς
Category: Judgment
A title and metaphor for Christ (1:4-9; 3:19-21; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35-36,46). Fresh category requiring explicit teaching since Bathou worship is aniconic; care required since okhrang (sky) is a sacred Bathou element, risking elemental misreading.
Darkness
Approved rendering: आंधार
Transliteration: andhar
Doctrine: Light and Darkness
Original: σκότος / σκοτία
Category: Judgment
Moral rejection of Christ, not merely absence of illumination (1:5; 3:19; 8:12; 12:35,46).
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि क्रोध
Transliteration: Isornni krodh
Doctrine: The Wrath of God against Unbelief
Original: ὀργὴ τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Judgment
John 3:36. Mirror-image risk to ‘grace’: must not be taught as an appeasable deity-temper manageable via ritual offering or पुण्य (merit); righteous judicial response to persistent unbelief.
Worship
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सेवा खालामनाय
Transliteration: Isornni sewa khalamnai
Doctrine: Worship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: पूजा (NEVER — the literal name of the Kherai puja festival, the trance-based communal Bathou ritual)
Original: προσκυνέω
Category: Worship
John 4:20-24; 9:38; 12:20. Built on सेवा (baseline). ‘In spirit and truth’ (4:24) must be taught as internal, personal worship, not tied to a ritual site (नमासोलि, forbidden for ‘church’) nor trance-mediated practice.
Savior Of The World
Approved rendering: जगतनि फोरायग्रा
Transliteration: jagatni phoraygra
Doctrine: Salvation (extension)
Original: σωτὴρ τοῦ κόσμου
Category: Salvation
John 4:42. Agentive suffix -ग्रा on फोरायनाय (baseline). Must not be confused with a protector-deity role (Bathoubwrai/Kherai pantheon’s this-worldly protection function); unique, exclusive, eschatological Savior.
Equal With God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरजों समान
Transliteration: Isorjw saman
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: ἴσος τῷ θεῷ
Category: Christology
John 5:18. Must never be softened to ‘like God’ or ‘God’s special helper’ — the text records this as the very charge that provoked accusations of blasphemy.
Son Of Man
Approved rendering: मानसि गोरा
Transliteration: manwsi gwra
Doctrine: The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ; Judgment
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Category: Christology
1:51; 3:13-14; 5:27; 6:27,53,62; 8:28; 9:35; 12:23,34; 13:31. Built on the गोरा pattern. Must be taught as an exalted apocalyptic title (Daniel 7:13-14), not merely ‘a human being’; distinct from ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God).
Lifted Up
Approved rendering: उच्ठायनाय
Transliteration: ucthainai
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Original: ὑψωθῆναι
Category: Salvation
3:14; 8:28; 12:32-34. Deliberate double meaning (crucified/exalted); महिमाजों उच्ठायनाय when the exaltation sense is primary. Mandatory translator note at every occurrence; consistency required across all three occurrences.
I Am Formula
Approved rendering: आं…जायो
Transliteration: ang…jayw
Doctrine: The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Original: ἐγώ εἰμι
Category: Christology
6:35; 8:12,58; 10:7,9,11,14; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1,5; 18:5-6,8. Pending confirmation of जायो as the correct existential copula from a Bodo-speaking theologian. Provisional formula-family requiring confirmation before Phase 2 deployment. Must never be flattened to ordinary self-description; echoes Exodus 3:14 LXX.
Way Truth Life
Approved rendering: लामा / सत्य / जिउनाय
Transliteration: lama / satyo / jiunai
Doctrine: The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Original: ὁδός / ἀλήθεια / ζωή
Category: Christology
John 14:6. Exclusivity claim (‘no one comes to the Father except through me’) must not be softened; लामा alone carries no exclusivist force and could be read as merely ‘a way among ways.‘
Lay Down Life
Approved rendering: जिउ होनाय
Transliteration: jiu honai
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Original: τίθημι τὴν ψυχήν
Category: Salvation
10:11,15,17-18; 15:13. Built on जिउ (life/soul). Voluntary self-giving, not a ritual sacrifice extracted by an appeasement-seeking deity — the same distinction required for ‘Lamb of God.‘
Father Son One
Approved rendering: आं आरो आफा मोनसे जायो
Transliteration: ang aro afa monse jayw
Doctrine: Unity of the Father and the Son
Original: ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἕν ἐσμεν
Category: Unity
John 10:30. Founding text; must avoid both under-reading (mere agreement of purpose) and modalist over-reading (collapse into one undifferentiated person). Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.
Resurrection And Life
Approved rendering: जिउनाय सोलायनाय आरो जिउनाय
Transliteration: jiunai solainai aro jiunai
Doctrine: The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements; Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: फिन जोनोम (never)
Original: ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ἀνάστασις καὶ ἡ ζωή
Category: Eschatology
John 11:25. Requires explicit translator note distinguishing three referents: Lazarus’s temporary raising, Christ’s own resurrection, and believers’ final resurrection — all sharing one term family, all of which must avoid फिन जोनोम.
Counselor Paraclete
Approved rendering: गोसो होग्रा
Transliteration: gwsw hogra
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit as Counselor
Original: παράκλητος
Category: Holy Spirit
14:16,26; 15:26; 16:7. Built on the baseline’s ‘exhort’ root (गोसो होनाय) plus the agentive suffix -ग्रा. Must always be used in combination with, never as a substitute for, पबित्र आत्था. NEVER illustrated by comparison to a doudini’s role as a ritual intermediary seized/possessed during Kherai puja — the Counselor permanently and personally indwells and teaches each believer; he does not seize a person’s faculties in a trance state.
Before Foundation Of World
Approved rendering: जगत सोरजिनायनि सिगां
Transliteration: jagat sworjinaini sigang
Doctrine: The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ
Original: πρὸ τοῦ τὸν κόσμον εἶναι
Category: Christology
17:5,24. Clearest single pre-existence statement alongside 1:1 and 8:58. Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.
That They May Be One
Approved rendering: मोनसे जायो (जानाय)
Transliteration: monse jayw (janai)
Doctrine: Unity of the Father and the Son (extended to believers)
Original: ἵνα ὦσιν ἕν καθὼς ἡμεῖς ἕν
Category: Unity
17:11,21-22. Distinguish believers’ relational/moral unity from the Father-Son ontological unity — same Bodo term मोनसे must not flatten this distinction.
Cross Crucify
Approved rendering: क्रूस
Transliteration: krus
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Original: σταυρός / σταυρόω
Category: Salvation
Absent from the Romans baseline entirely; newly established here. Standard transliterated regional loan (parallel to Assamese ক্রুশ). Verb क्रूसाव लाबनाय. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence; teach as a real, historical, unrepeatable execution, never symbolic or ritually re-enactable.
It Is Finished
Approved rendering: पूरा जाबाय
Transliteration: pura jabai
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Original: τετέλεσται
Category: Salvation
John 19:30. Must convey a once-for-all, perfect completion of Christ’s atoning work — no repetition, no supplementary ritual required — directly countering assimilation to Bathou/Kherai repeatable appeasement offerings.
My Lord And My God
Approved rendering: मोर प्रभु आरो मोर ईश्वर
Transliteration: mor probhu aro mor Isor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ; Unity of the Father and the Son
Original: ὁ κύριος μου καὶ ὁ θεός μου
Category: Christology
John 20:28. Combines प्रभु and ईश्वर into Thomas’s confession, the strongest direct statement of Christ’s full deity in the Gospel. Render exactly and verbatim-consistently, paralleling the baseline’s treatment of Romans 10:9. Mandatory human theologian review.
Before Abraham I Am
Approved rendering: अब्राहाम जोनोमनि सिगां आं जायो
Transliteration: Abraham jonomni sigang ang jayw
Doctrine: The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ
Original: πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγὼ εἰμί
Category: Christology
John 8:58. Direct echo of the divine self-naming at Exodus 3:14 LXX; must not be reduced to mere temporal priority that loses the divine-name resonance. Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.
High Risk Terms
Faith
Approved rendering: बिश्वास
Transliteration: biswas
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: भरोसा
Original: πίστις / πιστεύω
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Verbal form बिश्वास खालामनाय used for John’s pervasive participial ‘believing’ construction (1:12; 3:15-18,36; 20:31).
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mohima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. John 12:43 ironically contrasts ‘glory of men’ with ‘glory of God’ — flag for translator note so the irony is not lost in a single-word rendering.
Sin
Approved rendering: गुनाह
Transliteration: gunah
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: दोष
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Central to the Lamb of God title (1:29) and the Counselor’s convicting work (16:8-9).
Covenant
Approved rendering: गोसाथारि
Transliteration: gwsathari
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Background presupposed by John 1:17 (‘the law was given through Moses’).

Transliteration: Isornni saikho
Doctrine: Effectual Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: भागी (never)
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐκλέγομαι
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Paired in John with the new ‘draw’ (टानाय) term (6:44,65; 15:16,19).
Providence
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सामलानाय
Transliteration: Isornni samlanai
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: भागी (never)
Original: πρόνοια (implicit, cf. 6:37-44)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Background to John 6:37-44 (the Father’s drawing and giving of believers to the Son).
Rabbi Teacher
Approved rendering: रब्बी / अध्यापक
Transliteration: rabbi / adhyapok
Doctrine: Christology (Teacher address to Jesus)
Rejected alternatives: गुरु (NEVER — the specific honorific title of Kalicharan Brahma, ‘Gurudev,’ founder of Brahma Dharma)
Original: ῥαββί / διδάσκαλος
Category: Christology
Hybrid rendering: रब्बी transliterated for direct address (3:2; 1:38,49; 20:16), अध्यापक (neutral loan) for the descriptive noun. Never गुरु for Jesus.
Truth
Approved rendering: सत्य
Transliteration: satyo
Doctrine: Seven ‘I Am’ Statements (Way, Truth, Life); Holy Spirit as Counselor
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Faith
Standard Sanskrit/Assamese loan. Must be distinguished from a merely propositional or ritual-correctness sense — in John truth is personal and Christ-centered (‘I am…the truth,’ 14:6). Paired with grace at 1:14,17.
Abide
Approved rendering: थानाय
Transliteration: thanai
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ (extension)
Original: μένω
Category: Faith
John 15:4-10, repeated ten times in ch.15. Plain Bodo verb; risk lies in under-translation (‘stay nearby’) rather than syncretism — the relational, dependent-union weight must be taught explicitly.
Gods Love
Approved rendering: प्रेम
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: God’s Love for the World
Original: ἀγάπη / ἀγαπάω
Category: God
3:16; 13:1,34; 14:15,21,23; 15:9-13; 17:23-26; 21:15-17. Must precede and cause, never be presented as a response to earned merit or reciprocal ritual offering — mirrors the baseline’s ‘grace’ risk profile.
World Kosmos
Approved rendering: जगत
Transliteration: jagat
Doctrine: God’s Love for the World; Judgment
Original: κόσμος
Category: God
Bipolar term: (1) the created world of humanity God loves (3:16-17; 4:42); (2) the organized hostile system opposed to God (7:7; 15:18-19; 16:33; 17:14). Every occurrence must be checked against context; conflating the two senses is a recurring risk, especially chs.12, 14-17.
Bread Of Life
Approved rendering: जिउनि रोटी
Transliteration: jiuni roti
Doctrine: The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Original: ἄρτος τῆς ζωῆς
Category: Christology
John 6:35,48,51. Manna typology requires explicit Old Testament background teaching given assumed low narrative literacy.
Sanctify Christ
Approved rendering: पबित्र खालामनाय
Transliteration: pobitro khalamnai
Doctrine: Sanctification (of Christ’s Mission and of Believers)
Original: ἁγιάζω
Category: Sanctification
10:36; 17:17,19. Distinct referent (Father setting apart the Son for mission) from the believer-sanctification sense already in the baseline; flag in teaching notes.
One Man Dies For People
Approved rendering: जिउ होनाय (ठाखाय)
Transliteration: jiu honai (thakhai)
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Original: εἷς ἄνθρωπος ἀποθάνῃ ὑπὲρ τοῦ λαοῦ
Category: Salvation
John 11:50-52. Reuses lay-down-life term with ठाखाय (‘for the sake of’) to render ὑπέρ consistently across 10:11; 15:13; and ch.19.
New Commandment
Approved rendering: नोतुन आदेश
Transliteration: notun adesh
Doctrine: The New Commandment to Love One Another
Original: ἐντολὴ καινή
Category: Faith
John 13:34. Uses आदेश rather than the baseline’s बिथान (reserved for the Mosaic Law) — a deliberate distinction, since John frames Christ’s love-command as new alongside, not identical to, the Law.
Convict Of Sin
Approved rendering: गुनाह फोरनाय
Transliteration: gunah phornai
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit as Counselor; Judgment
Original: ἐλέγχω
Category: Judgment
3:20; 16:8. A matched pair — teach together for consistency. Building on गुनाह (baseline).
Overcome The World
Approved rendering: जगतखौ जीनाय
Transliteration: jagatkhow jinai
Doctrine: Judgment (assurance-adjacent)
Original: νενίκηκα τὸν κόσμον
Category: Judgment
John 16:33. Must retain κόσμος’s negative-opposition sense here, distinct from its positive sense at 3:16.
Children Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि गोंसे
Transliteration: Isornni gwnse
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family (extension)
Original: τέκνα θεοῦ
Category: Salvation
John 1:12; 11:52. Distinct Greek root (τέκνα) from Romans’ legal υἱοθεσία; teach alongside, not as a replacement for, गोसोआव फैनाय (adoption, baseline) — John supplies the relational language, Romans the full legal inheritance-rights doctrine.
Sign
Approved rendering: सक्तिनि निसान
Transliteration: saktini nishan
Doctrine: Signs and Belief
Rejected alternatives: देउनि सक्ति (never)
Original: σημεῖον
Category: Christology
2:11,23; 3:2; 4:54; 6:2,14,26,30; 7:31; 9:16; 10:41; 11:47; 12:18,37; 20:30. Built on the baseline’s ईश्वरनि सक्ति. Must never be confused with देउनि सक्ति, the doudini’s Kherai-trance ritual power, already forbidden in the baseline’s ‘power_of_god’ entry.
Testimony
Approved rendering: साक्ष्य
Transliteration: sakkhyo
Doctrine: Testimony and Witness to Christ
Original: μαρτυρία / μαρτυρέω
Category: Covenant
1:7-8,15,19,32,34; 3:11,32-33; 5:31-39; 8:13-18; 15:26-27; 19:35; 21:24. Standard loan, verb साक्ष्य होनाय. Must be distinguished, as with ‘prophecy’ in the baseline, from the divinatory pronouncements of a doudini in Kherai trance or an ओझा.
Draw
Approved rendering: टानाय
Transliteration: tanai
Doctrine: Effectual Calling and Election
Original: ἑλκύω
Category: Salvation
6:44,65; 12:32. Directly parallels the baseline’s Effectual Calling doctrine and inherits the same caution against भागी (impersonal fate).
Freed Liberated
Approved rendering: मुक्त होनाय
Transliteration: mukto honai
Doctrine: Freedom from Slavery to Sin
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (never)
Original: ἐλευθερόω
Category: Salvation
8:32,36. Must not slide toward मोक्ष-style cosmological liberation-from-the-cycle-of-rebirth language, already forbidden per the baseline’s salvation entry; the freedom in view here is moral-relational (from slavery to sin), not cyclical.
Living Water
Approved rendering: जिउनाय दैथाय
Transliteration: jiunai daithai
Doctrine: Living Water and the Spirit
Original: ὕδωρ ζῶν
Category: Holy Spirit
4:10-14; 7:38. Built on जिउनाय (life). A metaphor for the Spirit’s life-giving work, explicitly confirmed at 7:39; must not be confused with any ritual water use in Bathou/Kherai preparatory purification practice.
Temple
Approved rendering: मंदिर
Transliteration: mandir
Doctrine: The Temple of Christ’s Body
Original: ναός / ἱερόν
Category: Christology
John 2:19-21. The ordinary South Asian word for a Hindu temple housing an image. Both poles of the comparison (Jerusalem temple; Christ’s body) lack a ready Bathou equivalent (aniconic worship, no built temple, centered on the sijou plant); heavy explanatory framing is required rather than a search for a ‘safer’ word.
Medium Risk Terms
Peace
Approved rendering: सान्ति
Transliteration: santi
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. John 14:27’s ‘my peace I leave with you’ is Christ’s own bequeathed peace, distinct from household-harmony peace sought via Bathou/Kherai offerings.
Mission
Approved rendering: मंगल खबरनि दायो
Transliteration: mangal khaborni dayo
Doctrine: Mission and Sending
Original: ἀποστολή / πέμπω
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. John 20:21 grounds the disciples’ sending directly in the Father’s sending of the Son — same term, new christological grounding.
Israel
Approved rendering: इस्राएल
Transliteration: Israel
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: יִשְׂרָאֵל
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. 1:31,47,49; 3:10; 12:13.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि राज्य
Transliteration: Isornni rajyo
Doctrine: The Kingdom Not of This World
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package. John 3:3,5 (entered by new birth) and 18:36 (‘not of this world’) sharpen the baseline’s caution against a territorial-political reading, given the Bodoland Territorial Region’s contemporary identity politics.
Law
Approved rendering: बिथान
Transliteration: bithan
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि नियम
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Deliberately distinct from the new John term ‘new commandment’ (नोतुन आदेश) at 13:34.
Intercession
Approved rendering: मोनसे नि थाखाय बिनयनाय
Transliteration: monse ni thakhai binoinai
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Original: ἔντευξις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Shares root मोनसे (one) with the new Unity-doctrine terms father_son_one and that_they_may_be_one — flag for teaching distinction.
Archon Ruler Nicodemus
Approved rendering: मुखिया
Transliteration: mukhiya
Doctrine: Apostleship-adjacent (Nicodemus’s rank)
Original: ἄρχων
Category: Church
John 3:1. Standard South Asian administrative loan; risks suggesting a village-council office rather than a Sanhedrin religious-judicial rank. Requires a brief explanatory gloss in lesson text.
Hour
Approved rendering: सोमोय
Transliteration: somoy
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection (time marker)
Original: ὥρα
Category: Christology
Recurring theological time-marker (2:4; 7:6,8,30; 8:20; 12:23,27; 13:1; 17:1) pointing to the divinely appointed moment of the cross/glorification. Standing translator note required that this word frequently marks a specific theological appointment, not ordinary clock-time.
Manifested
Approved rendering: गोहोमनाय
Transliteration: gohomnai
Doctrine: Judgment and Belief/Unbelief
Original: φανερόω
Category: Judgment
John 3:21 (‘be made visible/plain’). Low independent risk; theological weight carried by the surrounding light/darkness/truth terms.
Friends Servants
Approved rendering: मित्र / गुलाम
Transliteration: mitro / gulam
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship (extension)
Original: φίλοι / δοῦλοι
Category: Church
John 15:15. Preserve the contrast distinctly to convey the intimacy Christ offers his disciples in place of servant status.
Sons Of Light
Approved rendering: उजवालनि गोरा-गोंसे
Transliteration: ujwalni gwra-gwnse
Doctrine: Light and Darkness
Original: υἱοὶ φωτός
Category: Judgment
John 12:36. Built on उजवाल (light); complements rather than replaces ईश्वरनि गोंसे (children of God).
Phileo Affection
Approved rendering: मोसोन्दो
Transliteration: mwswndo
Doctrine: God’s Love for the World (nuance)
Original: φιλέω
Category: God
Provisional. John 21:15-17; also 11:3,36; 16:27. Distinct Greek verb (φιλέω) from ἀγαπάω/प्रेम; likely cannot be preserved in the base translated text but should be explained in accompanying study-material commentary.
Shepherd
Approved rendering: राखाल
Transliteration: rakhal
Doctrine: The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements; The Good Shepherd’s Substitutionary Care
Original: ποιμήν
Category: Christology
John 10:2,11,14,16; 21:15-17. Widely attested regional loanword, provisional pending native-speaker confirmation of naturalness.
True Vine
Approved rendering: अंगुर बिजाब
Transliteration: angur bijab
Doctrine: The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Original: ἄμπελος (ἀληθινή)
Category: Christology
John 15:1,4-5. Provisional pending native-speaker confirmation. Grape cultivation is not native to Bodo agrarian life (unlike rice, itself tied to Mainao, the Kherai pantheon’s goddess of wealth and rice — a useful contrast, not equivalence, for teaching); explain the horticultural image explicitly.
Slave Of Sin
Approved rendering: गुनाहनि गुलाम
Transliteration: gunahni gulam
Doctrine: Freedom from Slavery to Sin
Original: δοῦλος τῆς ἁμαρτίας
Category: Sin
John 8:34. Builds on गुनाह (baseline) + गुलाम (common regional loan).
Ruler Of This World
