Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 2 Thessalonians
English (Koine Greek) → Bodo (Boro)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning all three chapters of 2 Thessalonians. Terms already recorded in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked [Reused] and MUST use the exact recorded Bodo rendering — no deviation permitted. Terms not present in the Romans baseline are marked [New] and carry provisional renderings pending confirmation by a Bodo-speaking theologian, following the same disciplined-gap methodology the baseline used for terms like “grace,” “salvation,” and “incarnation.”
Risk tiers follow baseline definitions: Critical = human theologian review required, no deviation; High = human theologian review required; Medium = native speaker review recommended; Low = automated review sufficient.
A. Terms Reused Exactly from the Romans Baseline
| # | Term | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine Link | Key Passages | Risk Rationale (2 Thessalonians-specific) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | God | ईश्वर | Isor | Critical | God’s Righteous Judgment; Day of the Lord | 1:1-2; 2:11; 2:13 | Never बाथौबुरै. The judicial hardening of 2:11 (“God sends them a strong delusion”) must be taught as the righteous act of the one true personal God, not an impersonal fate-mechanism. |
| 2 | Lord | प्रभु | probhu | Critical | Lordship of Christ; Day of the Lord | throughout; 1:7-9; 2:1-2,8; 3:16 | Never बर’ऐ/बुरहा. “Day of the Lord” (प्रभुनि सान) depends entirely on प्रभु retaining its exclusive, supreme sense established in the baseline. |
| 3 | Jesus | जिसु | Jisu | Critical | Lordship of Christ | 1:1,7-8,12; 2:1,8,14,16; 3:6,18 | Standard established form; verify against current printed Bodo Bible. |
| 4 | Christ / Messiah | मसीह | Mosih | Critical | Lordship of Christ | throughout | Standard established form. |
| 5 | Father | आफा | afa | Critical | — (invocation) | 1:1-2; 2:16 | God and Christ named together as source of grace/peace; retain intimate, personal आफा, not an inherited deity-elder title. |
| 6 | Holy Spirit | पबित्र आत्था | pobitro aatha | Critical | Sanctification | 2:13 | Always in full; never bare देउ/आत्था. Note: 2:8’s “breath of his mouth” (πνεῦμα τοῦ στόματος) uses πνεῦμα in its ordinary “breath” sense and must NOT be rendered with पबित्र आत्था — flag this collocation to prevent confusion. |
| 7 | Gospel | मंगल खबर | mangal khabor | High | Gospel proclamation; God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:8; 2:14 | ”Obeying the gospel” (1:8) is grounds for either salvation or judgment — must retain मंगल खबर’s authoritative-proclamation sense, not generic religious news. |
| 8 | Grace | मोफादांनाय दान | mwphwdangnai daan | Critical | — (epistolary frame; salvation) | 1:2,12; 2:16; 3:18 | Never पुण्य or reciprocal-exchange framing; frames the letter’s opening and closing. |
| 9 | Faith | बिश्वास | biswas | High | Perseverance under Persecution; God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:3-4,10-11; 2:13; 3:2 | Object of faith must always be specified — 2:11-13 depends entirely on distinguishing बिश्वास directed at truth vs. बिश्वास directed at the lie (बांगार). |
| 10 | Church | मण्डली | mwndoli | Medium | — (ecclesiology) | 1:1,4 | Never नमासोलि; distinct from ναός (temple) usage in 2:4 — see New Terms table. |
| 11 | Kingdom of God | ईश्वरनि राज्य | Isornni rajyo | Medium | God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:5 | Suffering “for” the kingdom; retain non-territorial, non-ethnic framing given Bodoland political sensitivities. |
| 12 | Peace | सान्ति | santi | Medium | — (epistolary frame) | 1:2; 3:16 | Basis for the new compound सान्तिनि प्रभु (Lord of peace, 3:16). |
| 13 | Thanksgiving | धिनानाय | dhinanai | Low | — | 1:3; 2:13 | Standard usage. |
| 14 | Law | बिथान | bithan | Medium | Man of Lawlessness | 2:3,7-8 | Serves as the root for the newly-coined negation गैर-बिथान (lawlessness) — see New Terms table. |
| 15 | Power of God | ईश्वरनि सक्ति | Isornni sakti | High | Man of Lawlessness; Day of the Lord | contrast with 2:9 | Must remain categorically distinct from the lawless one’s counterfeit सक्ति (2:9) — see New Terms table for the qualified compound required there. |
| 16 | Called / Calling | फिनायाव / फिनायनि सिम | phinaiyao / phinaini sim | High | Perseverance under Persecution | 1:11; 2:14 | God’s effectual, relational summons — not a doudini’s ritual “calling”/seizure during Kherai trance. |
| 17 | Election | ईश्वरनि सायख | Isornni saikho | High | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 2:13 | Note textual variant ἀπαρχήν/ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς affecting exact nuance — flag for theologian confirmation. |
| 18 | Saints / Holy | पबित्र मानुष / पबित्र | pobitro manwsw / pobitro | High | Day of the Lord | 1:10 | Christ glorified “in his saints” at his return — corporate, not an ascetic elite. |
| 19 | Sanctification | पबित्रनाय | pobitronai | High | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 2:13 | The Spirit’s sanctifying work as the means of election unto salvation. |
| 20 | Salvation | फोरायनाय | phoraynai | Critical | Day of the Lord; God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:10,13; cf. 1:9’s opposite (eternal destruction) | Conceptual gap requiring ground-up teaching; here sharply juxtaposed with अनन्त बिनाश (eternal destruction) as its polar opposite outcome. |
| 21 | Providence | ईश्वरनि सामलानाय | Isornni samlanai | High | The Restrainer; Day of the Lord | 2:6-7 | God’s sovereign timetable governs even the lawless one’s unveiling (καιρός, 2:6) — never भागी (fate). |
| 22 | Obedience of Faith | बिश्वासनि मानोन | biswasni manwn | High | God’s Righteous Judgment | cf. 1:8 (related but distinct collocation) | Distinguish from the new, judgment-context collocation मंगल खबरखौ मानोन (“obey the gospel,” 1:8) — see New Terms table. |
| 23 | Exhort | गोसो होनाय | gwsw honai | Low | Perseverance under Persecution | 3:12 | Paul “exhorts” the idle to work quietly. |
B. New Terms Established for This Curriculum
| # | Term | Original (Greek) | Bodo Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine Link | Key Passages | Risk Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24 | Day of the Lord | ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου | प्रभुनि सान | Probhuni San | Critical | The Day of the Lord | 2:2 (cf. 1:10) | Genuine conceptual gap: Bathou religious life has no linear eschatology; its ritual calendar is cyclical and this-worldly. Must be taught from the ground up, parallel to how the baseline treats “salvation.” |
| 25 | Man of Lawlessness | ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας | गैर-बिथाननि मानुष | goir-bithanni manwsw | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:3 | Built on baseline’s गैर- negation pattern (cf. गैर-जुथुद) + बिथान (law). Must be taught as a singular future human figure empowered by Satan — not a Bathou/Kherai spirit-being, not a generic tyrant. |
| 26 | The Lawless One | ὁ ἄνομος | गैर-बिथानिया | goir-bithania | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:8 | Same referent as #25; must render identically across all occurrences (2:3, 2:8) for teaching consistency. |
| 27 | Lawlessness | ἀνομία | गैर-बिथाननाय | goir-bithannai | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:3,7 | Root abstract noun underlying #25-26 and #29 (mystery of lawlessness). |
| 28 | Son of Destruction | ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας | बिनाशनि गोरा | binashni gwra | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:3 | Deliberate structural echo of baseline’s ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God) — must be taught as its polar theological opposite, never confused with it. |
| 29 | Destruction / Perdition | ἀπώλεια / ὄλεθρος | बिनाश | binash | Critical | God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:3,10; 1:9 | New abstract noun for final ruin; basis for #28 and #30. Sanskrit-loan register consistent with महिमा, धार्मिकता. |
| 30 | Eternal Destruction | ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος | अनन्त बिनाश | ananto binash | Critical | God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:9 | Genuine conceptual gap parallel to “salvation”: Bathou tradition has no unending post-mortem separation concept. Must never be softened into a reversible/cyclical state (which would collide with the baseline’s forbidden रebirth/reincarnation framing). |
| 31 | Apostasy / The Rebellion | ἡ ἀποστασία | बिश्वास बानायनाय | biswas banainai | Critical | Standing Firm in the Traditions; Day of the Lord | 2:3 | Must convey a decisive corporate turning away from the specific, already-received Christian faith — not generic loss of religious devotion, and not generational drift from Bathou custom. |
| 32 | Mystery of Lawlessness | τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας | गैर-बिथाननि रहस्य | goir-bithanni rohosyo | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:7 | μυστήριον is a revealed-biblical-plan category, not an occult secret or a Kherai ritual “mystery” known only to initiated specialists. |
| 33 | The Restrainer / What Restrains | τὸ κατέχον / ὁ κατέχων | बन्द होनाय / बन्द होगारि | bondo honai / bondo hogari | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness; Day of the Lord | 2:6-7 | Greek itself preserves neuter (impersonal) / masculine (personal) ambiguity across two consecutive verses — Bodo rendering must preserve, not resolve, this ambiguity. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence; never collapse into fate-language (भागी). |
| 34 | Temple of God | ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ | ईश्वरनि मंदिर | Isornni mondir | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:4 | Highest single-image risk in the letter: “a being enthroned in a worship-site claiming divinity” maps disturbingly onto popular description of a doudini’s Kherai-trance embodiment of Bathoubwrai. Never gloss with नमासोलि (baseline-forbidden for “church”). Must be taught explicitly as end-times prophecy about a specific coming individual, not a live description of any current ritual practice. |
| 35 | Satan | Σατανᾶς | शैतान | Saitan | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:9; 3:3 (as ὁ πονηρός) | Standard regional transliteration. Must be sharply distinguished from देउ (generic Bathou/Kherai pantheon spirit-being) — extends the baseline’s forbidden-substitution logic for पबित्र आत्था to this figure: Satan is the singular personal enemy of God, not one deity among a functioning pantheon. |
| 36 | Signs and Wonders of Falsehood | σημείοις καὶ τέρασιν ψεύδους | बांगारनि चिन्हा आरो आचरजिया कार्य | bangarni sinha aro acharajiya kaijw | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness | 2:9 | Must never be presented as neutral supernatural phenomena — this is the passage’s central warning against exactly the kind of counterfeit “power” display that could otherwise be conflated with a doudini’s trance phenomena during Kherai puja. Mandatory explicit teaching framing. |
| 37 | Working of Delusion | ἐνέργεια πλάνης | भ्रमनि सक्ति | bhromni sakti | Critical | God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:11 | God’s judicial hardening of those who already rejected the truth — must be taught as righteous judgment upon prior free rejection, not as God originating falsehood, and not as impersonal karma. |
| 38 | Falsehood / The Lie | τὸ ψεῦδος | बांगार | bangar | Critical | The Man of Lawlessness; God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:9-11 | The qualifier that reframes all the lawless one’s apparent power as deceptive rather than genuinely revelatory; central to teaching believers to critically evaluate claimed spiritual phenomena. |
| 39 | Righteous Judgment | δικαία κρίσις | धार्मिक बिचार | dharmik bisar | Critical | God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:5 | Combines baseline धार्मिक- root with new बिचार (judgment). Must be God’s own perfect personal verdict — never karmic mechanism (Brahma Dharma risk) or appeasement logic (Bathou/Kherai risk). |
| 40 | Judgment / Be Condemned | κρίνω / κριθῶσιν | बिचार / बिचारनाव पड़नाय | bisar / bisar-nao pornai | Critical | God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:12 | Same caution as #39; forensic, personal, moral verdict. |
| 41 | Vengeance / Retribution | ἐκδίκησις | बदला | bodola | High | God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:8 | God’s own righteous judicial retribution, not personal revenge and not deity-appeasement offering logic. |
| 42 | Love | ἀγάπη | मोसौन्थि | moswnthi | High | Perseverance under Persecution | 1:3; 2:10,16; 3:5 | Covenantal, God-oriented love; must not collapse into ordinary clan/kin affection (afad loyalty) or reciprocal-exchange logic (parallel to baseline’s grace caution). Occurs across all three chapters — lock in as standard rendering. |
| 43 | Truth | ἀλήθεια | सत्य | sotyo | High | Day of the Lord; God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:10,12-13 | The specific, revealed truth of the gospel about Christ — not a generic philosophical “truth claim” parallel to Brahma Dharma’s own reformist truth-teaching. Directly contrasted with बांगार (falsehood) throughout 2:9-13. |
| 44 | Hope | ἐλπίς | आशा | asha | High | Perseverance under Persecution | 2:16 | Confident expectation grounded in God’s specific promises (Christ’s return, final vindication) — not vague optimism or fatalism (भागी risk). |
| 45 | Endurance / Perseverance | ὑπομονή | सहन (लानाय) | sohon (lanai) | High | Perseverance under Persecution | 1:4; 3:5 | Core doctrine of the whole letter. Must be active, hope-grounded endurance — not stoic resignation, and not the disciplined self-restraint valorized as merit-accruing in Brahma Dharma’s reform ethic. |
| 46 | Affliction / Tribulation | θλῖψις | दुखो | dukho | High | Perseverance under Persecution | 1:4,6-7 | Risk of being read through a karma-adjacent lens given Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced framework; must be anchored explicitly to unjust, externally-inflicted persecution, not suffering-as-consequence. |
| 47 | Persecution | διωγμός | सतायनाय | satainai | High | Perseverance under Persecution | 1:4 | Active hostile pursuit for the faith — the specific suffering-context believers are promised will be righted. |
| 48 | Rest / Relief | ἄνεσις | आराम | aram | Medium | Day of the Lord | 1:7 | End-times vindication-relief tied to Christ’s return, not present-life household prosperity sought through Bathou/Kherai offerings. |
| 49 | Revelation (of the Lord / of the Lawless One) | ἀποκάλυψις / ἀποκαλύπτω | प्रकाश जानाय / खुलाय होनाय | prokash janai / khulai honai | High | Day of the Lord; Man of Lawlessness | 1:7; 2:3,6,8 | Deliberately avoids आगोर, which the baseline reserves as a red flag for deity-manifestation-through-a-medium language (Kherai trance). |
| 50 | Sign(s) | σημεῖον | चिन्हा | sinha | Medium (High when qualified per #36) | Man of Lawlessness | 2:9; 3:17 | Same Bodo word serves two very different senses (deceptive supernatural display in 2:9; Paul’s authenticating handwritten signature in 3:17) — flag the distinction explicitly in translator notes to prevent cross-contamination of meaning. |
| 51 | Wonder(s) | τέρας | आचरजिया कार्य | acharajiya kaijw | High | Man of Lawlessness | 2:9 | Always paired with #50 and #38 (falsehood); never presented as neutral. |
| 52 | Unrighteousness | ἀδικία | गैर-धार्मिकता | goir-dharmikota | High | God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:10,12 | Structural negation of baseline’s धार्मिकता — reinforces that this is the direct moral opposite of the righteousness received by faith. |
| 53 | Perishing (ones) | ἀπολλύμενοι | बिनाशाव थानाय | binashao thanai | High | God’s Righteous Judgment | 2:10 | Root-consistent with #29 (बिनाश); same fate-category as “son of destruction,” now applied to his followers. |
| 54 | Obeying the Gospel | ὑπακούω τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ | मंगल खबरखौ मानोन | mangal khaborkhw manwn | High | God’s Righteous Judgment | 1:8 | Distinct from, but related to, baseline’s obedience_of_faith (#22) — flag the relationship explicitly; here it is the decisive initial response to the gospel in a judgment context. |
| 55 | Tradition(s) | παράδοσις | पावनाय सिखा | pabnai sikha | Critical | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 2:15; 3:6 | Single most culturally loaded new term in the letter: collides simultaneously with (1) Bathou/clan ancestral custom (bidi), (2) Brahma Dharma’s own explicit reform-tradition rhetoric, and (3) guru-veneration risk (avoid गुरु entirely given Brahma Dharma’s founder title “Gurudev”). Must be taught as fixed, Christ-centered apostolic gospel teaching only. Mandatory theologian review; confirm exact phrase with native speakers before wide deployment. |
| 56 | Comfort / Eternal Comfort | παράκλησις (αἰωνία) | गोसो मोनथिनाय | gwsw monthinai | Medium | Perseverance under Persecution | 2:16 | Heart-level consolation grounded in God’s love and grace. |
| 57 | Standing Firm | στήκετε | गोदान थानाय | godan thanai | High | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 2:15 | Positive counterpart to 2:2’s “being shaken” (लोरखा होनाय) — link explicitly in teaching materials. |
| 58 | Holding Fast | κρατέω | गोदान लानाय | godan lanai | High | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 2:15 | Paired verb with #55 (traditions); the active, gripping retention of apostolic teaching. |
| 59 | Disorderly Conduct / Idleness | ἀτάκτως περιπατέω | बेया चलनाय | beya sholnai | Medium | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 3:6,11 | Practical failure to keep the apostolic “tradition” (#55) of diligent work and orderly living — links doctrine to lived church discipline. |
| 60 | The Evil One | ὁ πονηρός | बेया (शैतान) | beya (Saitan) | High | The Man of Lawlessness | 3:3 | Grammatically ambiguous between “evil” (abstract) and a personal reference to Satan (#35); flag for theologian confirmation of the intended referent given the letter’s sustained ch. 2 focus on Satan’s activity. |
| 61 | Enemy / Admonish (as a brother) | ἐχθρός / νουθετέω | गोरैसा / सोंसारनाय | gworaisa / sonsarnai | Medium-High | Standing Firm in the Traditions | 3:15 | Church discipline must remain relational/familial correction, not hostile exclusion — important corrective against honor/shame-driven social exclusion dynamics documented in the broader regional context. |
| 62 | Lord of Peace | κύριος τῆς εἰρήνης | सान्तिनि प्रभु | santini probhu | Medium | Day of the Lord (closing benediction) | 3:16 | Compound of two already-established baseline terms (#2, #12); contrasts with ch. 2’s false alarm (2:2) — Christ himself, not human effort or ritual, is the source of true peace. |
C. Cross-Reference Notes for Phase 2 Enforcement
- Root-family consistency required: गैर-बिथान (#25-27), बिनाश (#28-30), बांगार (#36,38), and बिचार (#39-40) each recur across multiple verses and must be rendered with the identical root in every occurrence, per this glossary — inconsistent variants will obscure the theological linkages these root-families are designed to teach (e.g., that “son of destruction” and “perishing” share one fate-category).
- आगोर is forbidden not only for incarnation (per the Romans baseline) but now also for every occurrence of “reveal/revelation” language in this book (#49) — confirmed extension of the baseline’s forbidden-substitution list for this curriculum.
- गुरु is forbidden for “tradition”/teaching-transmission language (#55) given its direct association with Brahma Dharma’s founder title “Gurudev” — new forbidden-substitution entry specific to this curriculum, to be added to the Step 12 AI instruction set’s Critical Forbidden Substitutions list.
- शैतान vs. देउ (#35) is a new forbidden-substitution pair for this curriculum, parallel in structure to the baseline’s ईश्वर vs. बाथौबुरै and पबित्र आत्था vs. देउ pairs.
- चिन्हा (#50) carries two unrelated senses in this single short book (deceptive end-times display in 2:9; Paul’s ordinary authenticating signature in 3:17) — both occurrences must carry explicit disambiguating translator notes.
- All Critical-tier new terms (#24-40, #55) require mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence per the baseline’s escalation rules, with particular priority on #33 (the restrainer, where ambiguity must be preserved) and #34 (temple of God, the single highest syncretism-risk image in the book) and #55 (traditions, the term most central to this curriculum’s distinctive doctrine).
Critical Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: ईश्वर
Transliteration: Isor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (never use as the primary term for the biblical God; reserve strictly for describing traditional Bathou belief)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. ईश्वर is deliberately preferred over बाथौबुरै to avoid presenting the biblical God as the existing Bathou high god under a new name. In 2 Thessalonians 2:11 (‘God sends them a strong delusion’), must be taught as the righteous, personal act of the one true God executing judgment on a prior free rejection of truth — never an impersonal fate-mechanism (भागी) and never a karmic outcome.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: probhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: बुरहा/बर’ऐ titles reserved for Bathoubwrai and Kherai-pantheon elder-deities, never use for Christ
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Foundational to the compound प्रभुनि सान (‘Day of the Lord’) and to Christ’s total, effortless authority over the lawless one (2:8, killed by ‘the breath of his mouth’). Never render with an honorific elder-title that would place Christ inside the Bathou pantheon as one great elder-spirit among several.
Jesus
Approved rendering: जिसु
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Occurs throughout the letter (1:1,7-8,12; 2:1,8,14,16; 3:6,18) as part of the full title ‘our Lord Jesus Christ.’ Verify against a current printed Bodo Bible before finalizing this curriculum.
Messiah
Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: mosih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Occurs throughout the letter as part of the full title ‘our Lord Jesus Christ,’ following the established regional transliteration convention.
Father
Approved rendering: आफा
Transliteration: afa
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: बाथौबुरै (reserve strictly for describing traditional belief, never for the biblical Father)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. God and Christ are named together as the joint source of grace and peace (1:1-2) and of eternal comfort and good hope (2:16); retain the intimate, personal आफा, never an inherited deity-elder title.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पबित्र आत्था
Transliteration: pobitro aatha
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: देउ (a generic spirit-being from the Bathou/Kherai pantheon, never use), बुरहा-बुरही आत्था (ancestral household spirits venerated in traditional practice, never use)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Must always be used in full, and only for 2:13 (‘sanctification by the Spirit’). CRITICAL DISAMBIGUATION SPECIFIC TO THIS BOOK: 2:8’s ‘breath of his mouth’ (πνεῦμα τοῦ στόματος) uses πνεῦμα in its ordinary literal-breath sense and must NOT be rendered पबित्र आत्था — flag this collocation explicitly at every occurrence to prevent a doctrinally incoherent ‘Holy Spirit of his mouth’ reading applied to Christ’s spoken word of judgment.
Grace
Approved rendering: मोफादांनाय दान
Transliteration: mwphwdangnai daan
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: दान गोरोबनाय (a reciprocal gift expecting return offering, rejected), पुण्य (Brahma Dharma merit-language, never use)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Frames the letter’s opening greeting, benediction, and closing (1:2,12; 2:16; 3:18); never पुण्य and never framed as a reciprocal ritual-exchange gift as in traditional Bathou/Kherai offering practice.
Salvation
Approved rendering: फोरायनाय
Transliteration: phoraynai
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मोक्ष (Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-derived liberation concept, never use), रैखाथि (protection from the Kherai pantheon against misfortune, never use as a stand-alone gloss for eternal salvation)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Genuine conceptual gap requiring ground-up teaching, exactly as in the baseline; here sharply juxtaposed with अनन्त बिनाश (‘eternal destruction’) as its polar opposite outcome (2:10,13; cf. 1:9).
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभुनि सान
Transliteration: Probhuni San
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: a recurring ritual-calendar observance paralleling Kherai puja seasons (rejected), a mere weekly ‘Lord’s Day’/Sunday sense (rejected — must never be confused with the exclusively final eschatological Day)
Original: ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Genuine conceptual gap, not a wrong-existing-word problem: Bathou religious life runs on a cyclical, this-worldly agrarian ritual calendar with no linear eschatology culminating in a single future day of cosmic judgment. Must be taught from the ground up, parallel to the baseline’s treatment of फोरायनाय (salvation). Key passages: 1:7-10; 2:1-2; 2:6-8.
Man Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: गैर-बिथाननि मानुष
Transliteration: goir-bithanni manwsw
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: a generic tyrant/villain figure from folk narrative (too weak, lacks the Satan-empowerment dimension), a spirit-being from the populated Bathou/Kherai pantheon (देउ, never use)
Original: ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, built by applying the established गैर- negation (cf. baseline गैर-जुथुद) to the baseline’s बिथान (Mosaic Law). Must be taught as a specific, singular, future human figure empowered by Satan, not a generic bad ruler. Key passages: 2:3-4; 2:8-9.
The Lawless One
Approved rendering: गैर-बिथानिया
Transliteration: goir-bithania
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ ἄνομος
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Shortened title for the same figure as गैर-बिथाननि मानुष, now named for destruction by Christ’s word (2:8). Must render identically in structure across 2:3 and 2:8 so learners recognize a single referent with a single fate.
Lawlessness
Approved rendering: गैर-बिथाननाय
Transliteration: goir-bithannai
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin
NEW TERM. The root abstract noun (total, cosmic rebellion against God’s moral order) underlying man_of_lawlessness, the_lawless_one, and mystery_of_lawlessness. Key passages: 2:3,7. Bathou tradition has no comparable category for a personal cosmic law-breaker.
Son Of Destruction
Approved rendering: बिनाशनि गोरा
Transliteration: binashni gwra
Doctrine: Son of Destruction (contrasted with the Son of God)
Rejected alternatives: any rendering that could be heard as a variation on ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God), never permit conflation
Original: υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, deliberately structured as the polar theological opposite of the baseline’s ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God, Critical). Because both share the established गोरा (‘son’) root, this must be taught in reverse: this title marks destined ruin, sharply distinct from Christ’s eternal, unique Sonship. Key passage: 2:3.
Destruction
Approved rendering: बिनाश
Transliteration: binash
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀπώλεια / ὄλεθρος
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, a Sanskrit-derived abstract noun in a register consistent with established baseline terms like महिमा and धार्मिकता. Root basis for son_of_destruction, eternal_destruction, and perishing. Key passages: 1:9; 2:3,10.
Eternal Destruction
Approved rendering: अनन्त बिनाश
Transliteration: ananto binash
Doctrine: Eternal Destruction
Rejected alternatives: a temporary or reversible/purgative state (rejected — would collide with the baseline’s forbidden फिन जोनोम rebirth/reincarnation framing), a mere-annihilation gloss stripped of its personal, moral-verdict dimension (rejected — echoes Jehovah’s Witness New World Translation-pattern renderings, which must not be echoed)
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Genuine conceptual gap parallel to फोरायनाय (salvation): traditional Bathou religious life has no developed concept of unending post-mortem separation from God, its concerns being entirely this-worldly. Must never be softened toward a temporary or cyclical state. Key passage: 1:9.
Apostasy
Approved rendering: बिश्वास बानायनाय
Transliteration: biswas banainai
Doctrine: Apostasy / The Rebellion
Rejected alternatives: generic loss of religious devotion transferable to any tradition (too broad), the gradual generational drift away from Bathou ancestral custom (bidi), which Bodo elders already describe using other, non-theological vocabulary (rejected as a false equivalence)
Original: ἀποστασία
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, built on the baseline’s established बिश्वास. Must convey a decisive, corporate turning away from the specific, already-received Christian faith. Key passage: 2:3.
Mystery Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: गैर-बिथाननि रहस्य
Transliteration: goir-bithanni rohosyo
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: an occult secret or esoteric doctrine (rejected), Kherai puja’s own ritual ‘mysteries’ known only to initiated doudini/ritual specialists (rejected — the wrong cultural frame)
Original: μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, combining गैर-बिथान with the widely attested regional loanword रहस्य. Must be taught as a revealed-biblical-plan category (cf. Paul’s use of μυστήριον elsewhere, e.g. Romans 11:25), not an occult secret. Key passage: 2:7.
The Restrainer
Approved rendering: बन्द होनाय / बन्द होगारि
Transliteration: bondo honai / bondo hogari
Doctrine: The Mystery of the Restrainer
Rejected alternatives: collapsing both v.6 (neuter) and v.7 (masculine) into a single unambiguous personal or impersonal term (rejected — the Greek itself preserves this ambiguity deliberately), भागी (impersonal fate, never use)
Original: τὸ κατέχον / ὁ κατέχων
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. The Greek shifts between an impersonal restraining ‘thing’ (v.6) and a personal restraining ‘one’ (v.7); the Bodo rendering must preserve, not resolve, this ambiguity. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence; translator notes must document the major candidate identifications (Roman state/government, the church’s proclamation, the Holy Spirit, an angelic power) without foreclosing any of them in the translated text itself. Key passages: 2:6-7.
Temple Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि मंदिर
Transliteration: Isornni mondir
Doctrine: Temple Usurpation and Self-Deification
Rejected alternatives: नमासोलि (Bathou/Kherai ritual worship-ground, baseline-forbidden for ‘church,’ also forbidden here), मण्डली (church/assembly — the wrong referent entirely)
Original: ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional loanword मंदिर rather than either मण्डली or नमासोलि. The single highest syncretism-risk image in the book: an enthroned being claiming divinity in a worship-site maps disturbingly onto popular description of a doudini’s Kherai-trance embodiment of Bathoubwrai. Must be taught explicitly and repeatedly as one-time end-times prophecy about a specific coming individual’s blasphemous usurpation, never a live description of any current ritual practice. Key passage: 2:4.
Satan
Approved rendering: शैतान
Transliteration: Saitan
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: देउ (a generic spirit-being from the Bathou/Kherai pantheon, never use)
Original: Σατανᾶς
Category: God
NEW TERM, a transliteration already standard across regional South Asian Bible translations (Hindi, Assamese, Bengali). Extends the baseline’s forbidden-substitution logic for पबित्र आत्था: Satan is the singular, personal, malevolent enemy of God, not one deity among a functioning pantheon, and is permitted only limited, temporary scope. Key passages: 2:9; 3:3 (as ὁ πονηρός).
Signs And Wonders Of Falsehood
Approved rendering: बांगारनि चिन्हा आरो आचरजिया कार्य
Transliteration: bangarni sinha aro acharajiya kaijw
Doctrine: Satanic Deception through Counterfeit Signs and Wonders
Rejected alternatives: presenting these displays as neutral supernatural phenomena (rejected), देउनि सक्ति-adjacent framing paralleling a doudini’s Kherai-trance display (never use)
Original: σημείοις καὶ τέρασιν ψεύδους
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Must never be presented as neutral background information — this is the passage’s central warning against exactly the kind of counterfeit power display that could otherwise be conflated with a doudini’s trance phenomena during Kherai puja. Mandatory explicit teaching framing at every occurrence. Key passage: 2:9.
Working Of Delusion
Approved rendering: भ्रमनि सक्ति
Transliteration: bhromni sakti
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: भागी (impersonal fate, never use), an impersonal karmic mechanism consistent with Brahma Dharma ethics (never use)
Original: ἐνέργεια πλάνης
Category: God
NEW TERM, using the regionally attested Sanskrit loan भ्रम. Must be taught as God’s own judicial act confirming already-rejecters of the truth in their self-chosen deception — righteous judgment upon a prior, free rejection, never God originating falsehood. Mandatory theologian review. Key passage: 2:11.
Falsehood
Approved rendering: बांगार
Transliteration: bangar
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ψεῦδος
Category: Sin
NEW TERM. The single most theologically load-bearing qualifier in 2:9-11: reframes all the lawless one’s apparent supernatural displays as fundamentally deceptive. Must be a deliberate teaching point, never assumed. Key passages: 2:9-11.
Righteous Judgment
Approved rendering: धार्मिक बिचार
Transliteration: dharmik bisar
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: an impersonal karmic mechanism (Brahma Dharma, never use), appeasement-logic transaction, i.e. offerings made to avert a deity’s displeasure (Bathou/Kherai pattern, never use)
Original: δικαία κρίσις
Category: God
NEW TERM, combining the baseline’s established धार्मिक- root (धार्मिकता, righteousness) with the new बिचार (judgment). Must be God’s own perfect, personal, moral verdict. Key passage: 1:5.
Judgment Condemned
Approved rendering: बिचार / बिचारनाव पड़नाय
Transliteration: bisar / bisar-nao pornai
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: κρίνω / κριθῶσιν
Category: God
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional loanword बिचार (‘judgment,’ legal/divine verdict). Same caution as righteous_judgment: must convey a personal, moral, forensic divine verdict. Key passage: 2:12.
Tradition
Approved rendering: पावनाय सिखा
Transliteration: pabnai sikha
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: any रendering built on गुरु (forbidden — direct association with Brahma Dharma founder title ‘Gurudev’ Kalicharan Brahma), Bathou/clan ancestral custom (bidi) framing (rejected), Brahma Dharma’s own explicit 1912 ‘return to tradition’/reform rhetoric (rejected)
Original: παράδοσις
Category: Church
NEW TERM and the single most culturally loaded term in the letter. Must be taught, explicitly and repeatedly, as fixed, Christ-centered apostolic gospel teaching received from Paul and, behind him, from Christ — never ancestral custom, never reform ideology, never guru-veneration. Mandatory theologian review; confirm exact phrase with native speakers before wide deployment. Key passages: 2:15; 3:6.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: मंगल खबर
Transliteration: mangal khabor
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: सुसमाचार (Hindi loan, avoid as default; retain only as an explanatory gloss for readers already literate in Hindi)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. In this letter, obeying or disobeying the gospel (1:8; 2:14) determines final destiny — must retain मंगल खबर’s authoritative-proclamation sense, not generic religious news, since 1:8 makes disobedience to it explicit grounds for judgment.
Faith
Approved rendering: बिश्वास
Transliteration: biswas
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: भरोसा (generic trust, too weak alone)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. The object of बिश्वास must always be specified — 2:10-13 depends entirely on distinguishing faith directed at truth (सत्य) from faith directed at falsehood (बांगार), the same verb used ironically for both saving belief and damning credulity.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सक्ति
Transliteration: Isornni sakti
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: देउनि सक्ति (spirit/deity power as manifested through a doudini’s trance, avoid as a substitute)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Must remain categorically distinct from the lawless one’s counterfeit power (गैर-बिथानियानि सक्ति, 2:9) and from देउनि सक्ति, the ritual/mediumistic power attributed to a doudini’s Kherai trance state.
Called
Approved rendering: फिनायाव
Transliteration: phinaiyao
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: मिनतिनाय (a plea/invitation, too weak)
Original: κλητός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. God’s effectual call to salvation through the gospel (2:14). Distinguish from a doudini being ritually ‘called’/seized by a deity during Kherai trance.
Calling
Approved rendering: फिनायनि सिम
Transliteration: phinaini sim
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Paul prays the Thessalonians be found worthy of their calling (1:11). Kept structurally parallel to फिनायाव for teaching consistency.
Election
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सायख
Transliteration: Isornni saikho
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: भागी (fate/fortune, too impersonal)
Original: αἱρέομαι (cf. ἐκλογή)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. God’s sovereign, personal choice of the Thessalonian believers (2:13). Must not be reheard as भागी, familiar from folk belief and Brahma Dharma’s merit ethic. Flag the ἀπαρχήν/ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς textual variant (2:13) for theologian confirmation before finalizing this occurrence.
Saints
Approved rendering: पबित्र मानुष
Transliteration: pobitro manwsw
Doctrine: Sainthood
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Christ is glorified ‘in his saints’ at his coming (1:10) — corporate, not an ascetic elite, and must not be narrowed to suggest a specialist religious elite paralleling the doudini’s recognized ritual role.
Holy
Approved rendering: पबित्र
Transliteration: pobitro
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: साफ (physically clean, ritual-purity sense only)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Underlies ‘saints’ and ‘sanctification’ throughout the letter. साफ must be reserved for physical/ritual cleanliness, distinct from Kherai puja’s own purification rites.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: पबित्रनाय
Transliteration: pobitronai
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: साफनाय (ritual cleansing, avoid as a substitute)
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. The Spirit’s ongoing, internal work of making believers holy, cited as the means of God’s electing choice unto salvation (2:13). Distinct from the external, occasional ritual purification performed before Bathou and Kherai ceremonies.
Providence
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि सामलानाय
Transliteration: Isornni samlanai
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: भागी (fate, never use)
Original: καιρός (cf. πρόνοια)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. God’s sovereign timetable governs even the unveiling of the lawless one (καιρός, 2:6-7); even this terrifying scenario operates only within God’s set boundaries, never भागी (fate).
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: बिश्वासनि मानोन
Transliteration: biswasni manwn
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि निदान मानोन (rule-keeping obedience to a reformed religious code, a works-based misreading)
Original: ὑπακοὴ πίστεως
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Must be distinguished from the new, judgment-context collocation मंगल खबरखौ मानोन (‘obeying the gospel,’ 1:8), which describes the decisive one-time initial response to the gospel message, not the ongoing faith-produced pattern of a believer’s life.
Vengeance
Approved rendering: बदला
Transliteration: bodola
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: personal revenge framing (rejected), deity-appeasement offering logic to avert anger, the Bathou/Kherai pattern (rejected)
Original: ἐκδίκησις
Category: God
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional loanword बदला. Must be framed as God’s own righteous judicial act against those who reject him and disobey the gospel, never personal vendetta. Key passage: 1:8.
Love
Approved rendering: मोसौन्थि
Transliteration: moswnthi
Doctrine: Christian Love
Rejected alternatives: ordinary clan/kin affection (afad loyalty, too narrow), reciprocal-exchange logic parallel to the baseline’s grace caution (rejected)
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith
NEW TERM. Selfless, covenantal, God-oriented love — the Thessalonians’ mutual love (1:3), the standard of right response to truth (2:10), and God’s own love (2:16; 3:5). Occurs across all three chapters; lock in as the standard rendering throughout.
Truth
Approved rendering: सत्य
Transliteration: sotyo
Doctrine: Faith in the Truth versus Belief in the Lie
Rejected alternatives: a generic philosophical ‘truth claim’ parallel to Brahma Dharma’s own reformist truth-teaching (rejected)
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Faith
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional Sanskrit loan सत्य. Must convey the specific, revealed gospel truth about Christ, directly contrasted with बांगार (falsehood) throughout 2:9-13. Key passages: 2:10,12-13.
Hope
Approved rendering: आशा
Transliteration: asha
Doctrine: Hope and Comfort
Rejected alternatives: भागी (impersonal fate/fortune, never use), vague optimism without a specified promised ground (rejected)
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Faith
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional loanword आशा. Must convey confident expectation grounded in God’s specific promises (Christ’s return, final vindication), extending the baseline’s caution against fate-language for providence and election. Key passage: 2:16.
Endurance
Approved rendering: सहन (लानाय)
Transliteration: sohon (lanai)
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: stoic resignation (rejected), disciplined self-restraint valorized as merit-accruing in Brahma Dharma’s reform ethic (rejected), fatalistic acceptance of unavoidable suffering (rejected)
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Faith
NEW TERM, using the regionally attested loanword सहन. Must be active, hope-grounded endurance rooted in confidence in Christ’s certain return. Key passages: 1:4; 3:5.
Affliction
Approved rendering: दुखो
Transliteration: dukho
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: a karma-adjacent ‘suffering as consequence’ reading available via Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-influenced ethical framework (rejected)
Original: θλῖψις
Category: Faith
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional Sanskrit loan दुखो. Must be anchored explicitly to unjust, externally-inflicted persecution for the gospel, never suffering-as-consequence. Key passages: 1:4,6-7.
Persecution
Approved rendering: सतायनाय
Transliteration: satainai
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: διωγμός
Category: Faith
NEW TERM. Active hostile pursuit endured by believers for their faith, cited as evidence that God’s future judgment will be righteous (1:5). Key passage: 1:4.
Revelation
Approved rendering: प्रकाश जानाय / खुलाय होनाय
Transliteration: prokash janai / khulai honai
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord; The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: आगोर (forbidden — names a deity’s manifestation through a human medium during Kherai trance; confirmed extension of the baseline’s forbidden-substitution list to all revelation/unveiling language in this book)
Original: ἀποκάλυψις / ἀποκαλύπτω
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Deliberately avoids आगोर for both Christ’s revealing (1:7) and the lawless one’s unveiling (2:3,6,8), since that term would suggest a temporary deity-manifestation-through-a-medium event rather than either Christ’s own personal, bodily return or a genuine future historical unveiling of the lawless one.
Wonder
Approved rendering: आचरजिया कार्य
Transliteration: acharajiya kaijw
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: presenting as neutral background information (rejected)
Original: τέρας
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Always paired with ‘sign’ and ‘falsehood’; never to be presented as neutral. An awe-inspiring but counterfeit supernatural display accompanying the lawless one’s false signs. Key passage: 2:9.
Unrighteousness
Approved rendering: गैर-धार्मिकता
Transliteration: goir-dharmikota
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀδικία
Category: Sin
NEW TERM, built by applying the established गैर- negation to the baseline’s धार्मिकता (righteousness). Reinforces for learners that this is the direct moral opposite of the righteousness received by faith. Key passages: 2:10,12.
Perishing
Approved rendering: बिनाशाव थानाय
Transliteration: binashao thanai
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀπολλύμενοι
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, root-consistent with बिनाश (destruction). Describes an ongoing trajectory toward final ruin, the same fate-category as the ‘son of destruction,’ now applied corporately to his followers. Key passage: 2:10.
Obeying The Gospel
Approved rendering: मंगल खबरखौ मानोन
Transliteration: mangal khaborkhw manwn
Doctrine: Gospel Obedience and Accountability
Rejected alternatives: collapsing into the baseline’s बिश्वासनि मानोन (obedience of faith) without distinguishing the one-time initial response to the gospel from the ongoing faith-produced pattern of Christian conduct (rejected)
Original: ὑπακούω τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM, built on the baseline’s established मानोन root. Failure to obey the gospel is itself grounds for judgment (1:8). Flag the relationship to, but distinction from, the baseline’s obedience_of_faith entry in translator notes.
Standing Firm
Approved rendering: गोदान थानाय
Transliteration: godan thanai
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: στήκετε
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Direct pastoral command to remain firm rather than being shaken by false end-times claims. Should echo लोरखा होनाय (‘being shaken,’ 2:2) as its direct opposite in teaching materials. Key passage: 2:15.
Holding Fast
Approved rendering: गोदान लानाय
Transliteration: godan lanai
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: κρατέω
Category: Church
NEW TERM, paired verb with ‘tradition’ (पावनाय सिखा). The active, gripping retention of apostolic teaching. Key passage: 2:15.
The Evil One
Approved rendering: बेया (शैतान)
Transliteration: beya (Saitan)
Doctrine: The Faithfulness of God and Protection from the Evil One
Rejected alternatives: leaving बेया to default to its ordinary abstract-adjective sense (‘bad/evil’) without linking to शैतान (rejected — obscures the likely personal referent)
Original: ὁ πονηρός
Category: God
NEW TERM. Grammatically ambiguous in the source between abstract ‘evil’ and a personal referent to Satan; given chapter 2’s sustained focus on Satan’s activity, likely refers to Satan personally. Flag for theologian confirmation of the preferred reading. Key passage: 3:3.
Medium Risk Terms
Church
Approved rendering: मण्डली
Transliteration: mwndoli
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: नमासोलि (Bathou/Kherai shrine site or worship ground, never use)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. The gathered local congregation at Thessalonica (1:1,4). Must be kept sharply distinct from the new term ‘temple of God’ (ईश्वरनि मंदिर, 2:4), which the man of lawlessness usurps — मण्डली is the believing assembly, not a worship-site.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: ईश्वरनि राज्य
Transliteration: Isornni rajyo
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Believers suffer ‘for the sake of’ God’s kingdom (1:5), for which they will be counted worthy at the judgment; distinguish from territorial-political framing given the Bodoland Territorial Region’s contemporary association of Bodo identity with territorial claims.
Peace
Approved rendering: सान्ति
Transliteration: santi
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Frames the letter’s greeting (1:2) and forms the base of the new compound सान्तिनि प्रभु (‘Lord of peace,’ 3:16); distinct from household harmony sought through Bathou/Kherai protective offerings.
Law
Approved rendering: बिथान
Transliteration: bithan
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: धर्मनि नियम (Brahma Dharma’s own codified religious-conduct rules, avoid as the primary gloss)
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. In this book, बिथान serves as the root concept for the newly-coined negation गैर-बिथान (‘lawlessness’) underlying the man-of-lawlessness vocabulary cluster (2:3,7-8) — a new and load-bearing role beyond its Romans usage.
Rest Relief
Approved rendering: आराम
Transliteration: aram
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: ordinary physical rest or present-life household well-being sought through Bathou/Kherai protective offerings (rejected)
Original: ἄνεσις
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM, using the widely attested regional loanword आराम. The promised relief for persecuted believers given at Christ’s return — specifically end-times vindication-relief, not present-life prosperity. Key passage: 1:7.
Sign
Approved rendering: चिन्हा
Transliteration: sinha
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: σημεῖον
Category: Eschatology
NEW TERM. Carries two unrelated senses within this short book: a counterfeit validating display (2:9, always qualified as बांगारनि चिन्हा — risk rises to High whenever so qualified) and Paul’s own benign authenticating handwritten signature (3:17, Low risk). Each occurrence requires an explicit disambiguating translator note so the two senses are never confused.
Comfort
Approved rendering: गोसो मोनथिनाय
Transliteration: gwsw monthinai
Doctrine: Hope and Comfort
Rejected alternatives: mere psychological comfort achievable by human effort (rejected)
Original: παράκλησις
Category: Faith
NEW TERM. God’s gift of settled heart-consolation, given alongside good hope (2:16), grounded in his love and grace.
Disorderly Conduct
Approved rendering: बेया चलनाय
Transliteration: beya sholnai
Doctrine: Diligence and Order in Church Life
Original: ἀτάκτως περιπατέω
Category: Church
NEW TERM. A lifestyle of idleness/disorder among some believers, apparently justified by end-times expectation. Should be explicitly linked back to ‘tradition’ (3:6 reuses παράδοσις) — a practical failure to keep the apostolic pattern of life Paul modeled. Key passages: 3:6,11.
Enemy Admonish
Approved rendering: गोरैसा / सोंसारनाय
Transliteration: gworaisa / sonsarnai
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Admonition
Rejected alternatives: hostile exclusion / clan-expulsion-like social dynamics (rejected)
Original: ἐχθρός / νουθετέω
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Church discipline must remain relational, familial correction, never hostile exclusion — an important corrective against honor/shame-driven social exclusion dynamics documented in the broader Northeast Indian social context. Key passage: 3:15.
Lord Of Peace
Approved rendering: सान्तिनि प्रभु
Transliteration: santini probhu
Doctrine: Grace and Peace in Christ
Rejected alternatives: substituting an elder-title honorific for प्रभु (rejected)
Original: κύριος τῆς εἰρήνης
Category: Christology
NEW compound of two already-established baseline terms (प्रभु, सान्ति). Christ himself as the source and giver of the peace discussed throughout the letter, contrasted with the false alarm of 2:2. Key passage: 3:16.
Low Risk Terms
Thanksgiving
Approved rendering: धिनानाय
Transliteration: dhinanai
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Paul’s heartfelt thanks for the Thessalonians’ growing faith and love (1:3; 2:13). Minor risk of being read as ritual thanks-offering language rather than genuine gratitude; overall low doctrinal risk.
Exhort
Approved rendering: गोसो होनाय
Transliteration: gwsw honai
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: παρακαλέω
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package; reused exactly for 2 Thessalonians. Paul exhorts the idle to work quietly and earn their own living (3:12). Context-sensitive: use for encouragement/building up; use बिनयनाय for entreaty/pleading contexts.
