Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — Gospel of John (English → Bodo)
This document executes PRD Phase 1 Steps 4–5: a full doctrine matrix spanning every chapter of John (1–21), and a chapter-by-chapter coverage table demonstrating full-book scope. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (30 doctrines; 16 Critical / 12 High / 2 Medium / 0 Low) and must not be read as contradicting it — this file provides the analytical narrative behind those tier assignments and traces them across the whole book, with John 3:1-21 as the curriculum’s theological anchor rather than its scope boundary.
Risk Tier Legend (per baseline convention)
| Tier | Definition | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | Mistranslation alters or destroys essential doctrine | Human theologian — mandatory, every occurrence |
| High | Mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk | Human theologian |
| Medium | Mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning | Native speaker review |
| Low | Mistranslation causes minor misunderstanding | Automated review |
Part A — Master Doctrine Matrix (All 30 Doctrines, Full Book)
| # | Doctrine | Risk | Key Bodo Terms | Primary Passages (John) | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Deity and Pre-existence of Christ (the Word) | Critical | राव (rao); ईश्वरजों समान; अब्राहाम जोनोमनि सिगां आं जायो | 1:1-3,14,18; 8:58; 17:5,24 | Genuine conceptual gap: Bathou tradition is oral/ritual, aniconic, with no personal pre-existent creative “Word”; 8:58’s “I AM” must retain Exodus 3:14 divine-name resonance, not mere temporal priority | Human theologian |
| 2 | The New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit | Critical | आत्मानिफ्राय नोतुन जोनोम; आत्मा/बार | 3:3-8 | Sharpest risk in curriculum: Nicodemus’s literal-rebirth misreading is explicitly raised and rejected by Jesus; फिन जोनोम (forbidden rebirth/reincarnation term) must never surface here; बार (wind) collides with Bathouism’s five sacred elements | Human theologian |
| 3 | Eternal Life through Faith in Christ | Critical | मोनथिनाय जिउनाय | 3:15-16,36; 5:24; 6:47,54; 10:28; 17:2-3; 20:31 | Qualitatively new life entered now by faith, not मोक्ष-style liberation (forbidden); neither Bathouism’s this-life ritual orientation nor Brahma Dharma’s reform ethic supplies a ready equivalent | Human theologian |
| 4 | God’s Love for the World | High | प्रेम; जगत | 3:16; 13:1,34; 14:15-23; 15:9-13; 17:23-26 | Love must precede/cause the gift of the Son, not respond to merit or ritual offering (mirrors baseline “grace” risk); जगत’s dual sense (creation loved / hostile system) must be disambiguated per occurrence | Human theologian |
| 5 | Judgment and Belief/Unbelief | Critical | बिसार; उजवाल; आंधार | 3:17-21,36; 5:22-30; 8:12; 9:39; 12:31,47-48; 16:8,11 | Must be God’s personal judicial verdict, not impersonal karma (Brahma Dharma) or भागी/fate (already forbidden in baseline) | Human theologian |
| 6 | The Seven “I Am” Statements | Critical | आं…जायो; जिउनि रोटी; राखाल; दुवार; लामा/सत्य/जिउनाय; अंगुर बिजाब | 6:35; 8:12,58; 10:7,9,11,14; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1,5 | Absolute formula echoes divine self-naming (Exodus 3:14 LXX); must never flatten to ordinary self-description; each predicate image carries its own component risk | Human theologian |
| 7 | The Holy Spirit as Counselor | Critical | गोसो होग्रा (paired always with पबित्र आत्था) | 14:16,26; 15:26; 16:7-15; 20:22 | Sharpest possession-imagery risk in curriculum: must never be illustrated by comparison to a doudini’s temporary Kherai-trance seizure — a real, currently practiced phenomenon | Human theologian |
| 8 | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | Critical | जिउ होनाय; क्रूस/क्रूसाव लाबनाय; पूरा जाबाय; उच्ठायनाय; जिउनाय सोलायनाय | 1:29,36; 3:14; 10:11,15,17-18; 11:50-52; 19:16-30,33-36; 20:1-29 | Two converging risks: (1) voluntary self-giving vs. reciprocal Bathou/Kherai offering logic already flagged for “grace”; (2) resurrection must never use फिन जोनोम (rebirth) | Human theologian |
| 9 | Unity of the Father and the Son | Critical | आं आरो आफा मोनसे जायो; मोनसे जायो (जानाय) | 10:30; 17:11,21-22; 20:28 | मोनसे must convey ontological oneness at 10:30 without softening to mere agreement or over-collapsing into modalism; same word extended to believers’ unity (17:11,21-22) risks flattening two distinct referents | Human theologian |
| 10 | Deity of Christ | Critical | ईश्वरजों समान; मोर प्रभु आरो मोर ईश्वर; राव; अब्राहाम…आं जायो | 1:1; 5:18; 8:58; 10:30-33; 20:28 | Must never soften into “a great spirit-being among the Kherai pantheon”; hostile hearers’ correct perception of a full-equality claim (5:18; 10:33) must be preserved, not explained away | Human theologian |
| 11 | Sonship of Christ | Critical | ईश्वरनि गोरा; गेजेरसिन गोरा; मानसि गोरा | 1:14,18,34,49; 3:16-18; 5:25,27; 10:36; 20:31 | गेजेरसिन गोरा must rule out any reading of Christ as one divine/semi-divine figure among the Bathou pantheon’s many members | Human theologian |
| 12 | Lordship of Christ | Critical | प्रभु; मोर प्रभु आरो मोर ईश्वर | 9:36-38; 11:27; 20:28 | Never render with honorific elder-titles बर’ऐ/बुरहा reserved for Bathoubwrai/Kherai pantheon; 20:28 requires verbatim consistency paralleling Romans 10:9 | Human theologian |
| 13 | Incarnation | Critical | मानसि गुदि सोलायनाय | 1:14 | Direct source text for baseline doctrine; sharply distinguished from doudini possession — permanent personal assumption of human nature vs. temporary ritual embodiment | Human theologian |
| 14 | Worship of Christ | Critical | ईश्वरनि सेवा खालामनाय | 4:20-24; 9:38; 12:20; 20:28 | NEVER पूजा (literal Kherai puja festival name); “in spirit and truth” must be taught as internal/personal, not site- or trance-tied | Human theologian |
| 15 | Light and Darkness | Critical | उजवाल; आंधार | 1:4-9; 3:19-21; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35-36,46 | Fresh category (aniconic Bathou worship has no embodied-light-deity); okhrang (sky, a sacred Bathou element) risk of elemental misreading; आंधार is moral rejection, not mere absence of light | Human theologian |
| 16 | The Wrath of God against Unbelief | Critical | ईश्वरनि क्रोध | 3:36 | Mirror-image risk to grace: must not be taught as appeasable deity-temper manageable via ritual offering or पुण्य (merit) | Human theologian |
| 17 | Testimony and Witness to Christ | High | साक्ष्य | 1:7-8,19-34; 3:11,32-33; 5:31-39; 8:13-18; 15:26-27; 19:35; 21:24 | Truthful eyewitness reporting, distinguished from doudini/ओझा divinatory pronouncement, per baseline’s “prophecy” pattern | Human theologian |
| 18 | Sanctification (of Christ’s Mission and of Believers) | High | पबित्र खालामनाय / पबित्रनाय | 10:36; 17:17,19 | Distinct christological referent (Father setting apart the Son for mission) from baseline’s believer-sanctification sense; must not be conflated | Human theologian |
| 19 | Adoption into God’s Family / Children of God | High | ईश्वरनि गोंसे (John’s relational term) alongside गोसोआव फैनाय (Romans baseline legal term) | 1:12; 11:52 | Distinct Greek root from Romans’ υἱοθεσία; teach the two together, not as competitors, since Bodo clan (afad) kinship supplies neither on its own | Human theologian |
| 20 | Effectual Calling and Election (Drawing to Christ) | High | टानाय; ईश्वरनि सायख | 6:37,44,65; 15:16,19; 17:2,6,9 | Parallels baseline Effectual Calling; must resist भागी (impersonal fate) misreading familiar from folk belief and Brahma Dharma ethic | Human theologian |
| 21 | Mission and Sending | Medium | आफानि फेंथानायजों जायखा दायो; मंगल खबरनि दायो | 17:18; 20:21 | Grounded in the Father’s sending of the Son; must be framed as the church’s own ongoing calling, not a foreign historical project, given American Baptist mission history’s entanglement with colonial-era memory | Native speaker review |
| 22 | The New Commandment to Love One Another | High | नोतुन आदेश; प्रेम | 13:34-35; 15:12-13,17; 21:15-17 | Deliberately uses आदेश (not बिथान, reserved for Mosaic Law); must not be reduced to generic clan/communal solidarity | Human theologian |
| 23 | Signs and Belief | High | सक्तिनि निसान | 2:11,23; 4:54; 6:2,14,26,30; 9:16; 11:47; 20:30-31 | Must point to Christ’s identity, never confused with देउनि सक्ति (doudini’s mediumistic power, already forbidden in baseline) | Human theologian |
| 24 | The Son of Man’s Heavenly Authority | Critical | मानसि गोरा; उच्ठायनाय | 1:51; 3:13-14; 5:27; 6:27,53,62; 8:28; 9:35; 12:23,34; 13:31 | Must be taught as exalted apocalyptic title (echoing Daniel 7:13-14), not merely “a human being”; distinct from, and complementary to, ईश्वरनि गोरा | Human theologian |
| 25 | The Good Shepherd’s Substitutionary Care | High | राखाल; दुवार; जिउ होनाय | 10:1-18; 21:15-17 | Core claim (voluntary self-giving) must not be read as ritual sacrifice extracted by an appeasement-seeking deity | Human theologian |
| 26 | Living Water and the Spirit | High | जिउनाय दैथाय; पबित्र आत्था | 4:10-14; 7:37-39 | Metaphor for the Spirit’s life-giving work; must not be confused with ritual water use in Bathou/Kherai preparatory purification | Human theologian |
| 27 | The Temple of Christ’s Body | High | मंदिर | 2:19-21 | मंदिर is the ordinary word for a Hindu image-temple; Bathou worship has no built temple at all (aniconic, sijou-centered); neither pole of the comparison has a ready equivalent — requires heavy explanatory framing | Human theologian |
| 28 | Freedom from Slavery to Sin | High | मुक्त होनाय; गुनाहनि गुलाम | 8:31-36 | Must not slide toward मोक्ष-style cosmological liberation (already forbidden); freedom here is moral-relational, not cyclical | Human theologian |
| 29 | The Kingdom Not of This World | Medium | ईश्वरनि राज्य; जगत | 3:3,5; 18:36 | Sharpened by Pilate’s explicitly political interrogation and by the Bodoland Territorial Region’s contemporary ethnic-territorial identity politics; entered by new birth, not ethnic/clan/territorial belonging | Native speaker review |
| 30 | The Purpose of John’s Gospel (That You May Believe) | High | मसीह; ईश्वरनि गोरा; बिश्वास; मोनथिनाय जिउनाय | 20:30-31 | No new lexical term, but combines several already-Critical terms in one verse; flagged for maximal cross-document consistency | Human theologian |

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ (the Word)
Bodo name: मसीहनि ईश्वरत्व आरो सिगांनिफ्राय थानाय (राव)
Key terms: word_logos, before_foundation_of_world, before_abraham_i_am, equal_with_god
Review routing: Human theologian
This is a genuine conceptual gap, not a wrong-existing-word problem: Bathou tradition is entirely oral and ritual, with no developed concept of a personal, creative, pre-existent divine ‘Word,’ and its worship is aniconic (the sijou plant, not a spoken/embodied Logos). राव must be taught from the ground up as a titled, personal designation for Christ’s eternal being, and 8:58’s ‘I AM’ must retain its Exodus 3:14 divine-name resonance rather than collapsing into mere temporal priority.
The New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit
Bodo name: पबित्र आत्थानिफ्राय नोतुन जोनोम आरो सोलायनाय
Key terms: born_again, spirit_wind_wordplay
Review routing: Human theologian
The sharpest single risk in the whole curriculum. Nicodemus’s own question (‘can a man enter his mother’s womb a second time?’) explicitly raises, and Jesus explicitly rejects, a literal cyclical-rebirth reading — which is exactly the reading फिन जोनोम (already forbidden for ‘resurrection’ in the baseline as Brahma Dharma-derived rebirth language) would reintroduce here with even greater force. Additionally, the wind/Spirit wordplay in 3:8 cannot avoid बार, one of Bathouism’s five sacred elements (ha/dwi/bar/or/okhrang) symbolized by the sijou plant’s branches, risking the Spirit’s sovereign personal work being read as an impersonal natural element.
Eternal Life through Faith in Christ
Bodo name: मसीहावनि बिश्वासजों मोनथिनाय जिउनाय
Key terms: eternal_life, salvation, faith
Review routing: Human theologian
मोनथिनाय जिउनाय is a fresh, qualitatively-new-life category, not merely unending duration, and must not be assimilated to मोक्ष, Brahma Dharma’s Hindu-derived liberation-from-rebirth concept, already forbidden per the baseline’s salvation entry. Eternal life is entered now, by faith in Christ specifically, and continues forever — this must be taught explicitly since neither Bathouism’s this-life-oriented ritual practice nor Brahma Dharma’s reform ethic supplies a ready native equivalent.
Judgment and Belief/Unbelief
Bodo name: बिसार आरो बिश्वास/अबिश्वासनि फैसला
Key terms: judgment, light, darkness, convict_of_sin, wrath_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
बिसार must be taught as God’s personal, righteous judicial verdict, categorically distinct from impersonal karma-based reckoning (a live risk given Brahma Dharma’s karma-oriented ethics) and from भागी (fate), already forbidden in the baseline for election/providence. The light/darkness pairing (उजवाल/आंधार) frames this present-and-future judgment as moral response to Christ, not physical illumination, and must be taught as a fresh category given Bathou worship’s aniconic character.
The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Bodo name: सांद्रा ‘आं जायो’ राव
Key terms: i_am_formula, bread_of_life, light, shepherd, door_gate, resurrection_and_life, way_truth_life, true_vine, before_abraham_i_am
Review routing: Human theologian
The provisional formula आं…जायो must be confirmed by a Bodo-speaking theologian before deployment; it must never be flattened to ordinary self-description, since the absolute uses (8:58; 18:5-6) directly echo the divine self-naming of Exodus 3:14 LXX. Each predicated statement (bread, light, shepherd, door, resurrection/life, way/truth/life, vine) carries its own component risk (see individual term entries) and all seven must be rendered with theological consistency across the curriculum.
The Holy Spirit as Counselor
Bodo name: पबित्र आत्था गोसो होग्रा महरै
Key terms: counselor_paraclete, living_water, convict_of_sin
Review routing: Human theologian
गोसो होग्रा must always accompany, never replace, पबित्र आत्था. This doctrine carries the sharpest possession-imagery risk in the curriculum: the Counselor’s permanent, personal indwelling and teaching role must never be illustrated by comparison to a doudini’s temporary Kherai-trance seizure by Bathoubwrai or the wider pantheon — a real, currently practiced phenomenon that could otherwise seem like an intuitive cultural bridge.
Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Bodo name: मसीहनि सुहुरनि बाहानाव जिउ होनाय आरो जिउनाय सोलायनाय
Key terms: lamb_of_god, lay_down_life, one_man_dies_for_people, cross_crucify, it_is_finished, lifted_up, resurrection
Review routing: Human theologian
Two distinct comparative-religion risks converge here. First, ‘Lamb of God’ and Christ’s voluntary self-giving (जिउ होनाय) must be distinguished from traditional Bathou/Kherai animal offerings understood as reciprocal exchange to secure protection or avert misfortune — the same do-ut-des logic already flagged for ‘grace’ in the baseline. Second, the resurrection itself must never use फिन जोनोम (rebirth/reincarnation, Brahma Dharma-derived); क्रूस and पूरा जाबाय (‘it is finished’) must be taught as a real, historical, once-for-all, unrepeatable event requiring no supplementary ritual.
Unity of the Father and the Son
Bodo name: आफा आरो गोरानि मोनसे जानाय
Key terms: father_son_one, that_they_may_be_one, equal_with_god, my_lord_and_my_god
Review routing: Human theologian
मोनसे (‘one/single’) must be applied with precision: 10:30’s ontological, essential oneness of Father and Son must not be softened into mere unity-of-purpose (‘we agree’) nor over-corrected into a modalist collapse of two persons into one. 17:11,21-22 extends the same word to believers’ relational/moral unity — a different kind of oneness that must be taught as distinct from, though patterned after, the Father-Son unity, to avoid flattening the two into a single undifferentiated category.
Deity of Christ
Bodo name: मसीहनि ईश्वरत्व
Key terms: equal_with_god, my_lord_and_my_god, word_logos, before_abraham_i_am
Review routing: Human theologian
Extends the baseline’s Deity of Christ doctrine with John’s own strongest textual anchors. Must never be softened into ‘a great spirit-being among the Kherai pantheon’ or ‘a specially favored elder-spirit’ — the hostile hearers of 5:18 and 10:33 correctly perceived Jesus was claiming full equality with God, and this perception must be preserved, not explained away, in translation.
Sonship of Christ
Bodo name: मसीहनि गोरानि जोरा
Key terms: son_of_god, son_of_man, only_begotten
Review routing: Human theologian
गेजेरसिन गोरा (only-begotten/one-of-a-kind) and ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God) together must rule out any reading of Christ as one divine or semi-divine figure among the many recognized in the Bathou pantheon. मानसि गोरा (Son of Man) must be taught as a distinct, complementary title holding together genuine humanity and heavenly authority, not a downgrade from Sonship.
Lordship of Christ
Bodo name: मसीहनि प्रभुत्व
Key terms: lord, my_lord_and_my_god
Review routing: Human theologian
प्रभु must never be rendered with the honorific elder-titles बर’ऐ/बुरहा reserved for Bathoubwrai and the Kherai pantheon, which would place Christ inside the existing pantheon as one great elder-spirit among several. Thomas’s confession (20:28) is the Gospel’s climactic Lordship statement and must be rendered verbatim-consistently, exactly paralleling the baseline’s treatment of Romans 10:9.
Incarnation
Bodo name: मानसि गुदि सोलायनाय
Key terms: incarnation, word_logos
Review routing: Human theologian
John 1:14 is the direct source text for this baseline doctrine. Must be sharply distinguished from the Kherai puja’s doudini possession, in which a deity temporarily seizes and speaks through a human medium; the Word’s incarnation is a permanent, personal assumption of human nature, not a temporary ritual embodiment, and Bathou worship’s own aniconic character makes this doubly unfamiliar and in need of careful teaching.
Worship of Christ
Bodo name: मसीहनि थाखाय सेवा खालामनाय
Key terms: worship, equal_with_god
Review routing: Human theologian
NEVER पूजा — the direct name of the Kherai puja festival, in which a doudini enters trance to become a vessel for Bathoubwrai. When the healed blind man worships Jesus (9:38), this is a strong teaching opportunity to distinguish worship rightly directed to Christ from worship directed to any figure in the Bathou pantheon or mediated through a doudini’s trance state; ‘in spirit and truth’ (4:24) must be taught as internal and personal, not tied to a ritual site or trance practice.
Light and Darkness
Bodo name: उजवाल आरो आंधारनि फुरखानाय
Key terms: light, darkness, sons_of_light
Review routing: Human theologian
उजवाल as a title for Christ is a fresh category requiring explicit teaching, since Bathou worship is aniconic and has no embodied-light-deity concept to assimilate to; care is nonetheless required since okhrang (sky) is one of Bathou’s five sacred elements, and light imagery could otherwise be misread elementally rather than personally-christologically. आंधार must be taught as moral rejection of Christ, not mere absence of illumination.
The Wrath of God against Unbelief
Bodo name: अबिश्वासनि गेजेरजों ईश्वरनि क्रोध
Key terms: wrath_of_god, judgment
Review routing: Human theologian
The mirror-image risk to ‘grace’ in the baseline: both traditional Bathou/Kherai ritual offerings (understood to appease Bathoubwrai and the pantheon and avert misfortune) and Brahma Dharma’s merit-based ethic frame divine displeasure as manageable through ritual exchange or accumulated पुण्य. God’s wrath in 3:36 must be taught as righteous judicial response to persistent unbelief, not an appeasable deity-temper requiring an offering.
The Son of Man’s Heavenly Authority
Bodo name: मानसि गोरानि सुबुंगनि गोसो अधिकार
Key terms: son_of_man, lifted_up, judgment
Review routing: Human theologian
मानसि गोरा must be taught as an exalted, apocalyptic title (echoing Daniel 7:13-14), not merely ‘a human being.’ It is the vehicle in John for both Christ’s genuine humanity and his heavenly authority to judge and to be lifted up — distinguish sharply from ईश्वरनि गोरा (Son of God) so that the two titles together, rather than either alone, communicate full humanity and full deity.
High Risk Doctrines
God’s Love for the World
Bodo name: जगतनि थाखाय ईश्वरनि प्रेम
Key terms: gods_love, world_kosmos, only_begotten
Review routing: Human theologian
प्रेम must be taught as love that precedes and causes the gift of the Son, not a response earned by ritual devotion or accumulated merit — the same risk profile the baseline documents for ‘grace,’ now applied to God’s own motive. जगत (world) must be disambiguated at each occurrence between its positive sense (creation God loves) and its negative sense (the hostile system), since conflating the two undermines this doctrine’s force.
Testimony and Witness to Christ
Bodo name: मसीहनि थाखाय साक्ष्य
Key terms: testimony, sign
Review routing: Human theologian
साक्ष्य must be taught, as the baseline already requires for ‘prophecy,’ as truthful eyewitness reporting of what has been seen and known, sharply distinguished from the divinatory pronouncements of a doudini in Kherai trance or an ओझा in folk-ritual practice. This structural motif (John the Baptist, Jesus’ works, the Father, the Scriptures, the disciples all testify) undergirds the reliability of the whole Gospel record.
Sanctification (of Christ’s Mission and of Believers)
Bodo name: मसीह आरो बिश्वासीफोरनि पबित्रनाय
Key terms: sanctify_christ, sanctification
Review routing: Human theologian
John extends the baseline’s believer-sanctification sense (पबित्रनाय) to a distinct christological referent: the Father’s setting apart of the Son for his mission, and Christ’s own self-consecration. This distinct referent must be flagged in teaching notes so the two senses (Christ’s unique consecration; believers’ ongoing moral transformation) are not conflated.
Adoption into God’s Family / Children of God
Bodo name: ईश्वरनि गोंसे महरै फिसाजोंनाय
Key terms: children_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
John’s plain relational τέκνα θεοῦ (ईश्वरनि गोंसे) is a distinct Greek root from Romans’ legal υἱοθεσία (गोसोआव फैनाय, baseline); the two must be taught together, not as competing renderings, since John supplies the relational warmth and Romans the full legal inheritance-rights doctrine that traditional Bodo clan (afad) kinship structure does not otherwise supply.
Effectual Calling and Election (Drawing to Christ)
Bodo name: मसीहावनि थाखाय टानाय आरो ईश्वरनि सायख
Key terms: draw, election
Review routing: Human theologian
टानाय (draw) directly parallels the baseline’s Effectual Calling doctrine and inherits the same caution against भागी (impersonal fate), a framing familiar from both folk belief and Brahma Dharma’s ethic. The Father’s sovereign, personal initiative in drawing a person to Christ must not be reheard as an impersonal, fatalistic mechanism.
The New Commandment to Love One Another
Bodo name: गोबां-गोबांनि थाखाय प्रेमनि नोतुन आदेश
Key terms: new_commandment, gods_love, phileo_affection
Review routing: Human theologian
नोतुन आदेश deliberately uses आदेश rather than the baseline’s बिथान (reserved for the Mosaic Law), since John frames this command as new alongside, not identical to, the Law. This mutual love, modeled on Christ’s own self-giving (प्रेम), is the identifying mark of discipleship and must not be reduced to generic communal harmony of the kind sought through traditional social or clan (afad) solidarity.
Signs and Belief
Bodo name: सक्तिनि निसान आरो बिश्वास
Key terms: sign, faith
Review routing: Human theologian
सक्तिनि निसान must point to Christ’s own identity and never be confused with देउनि सक्ति, the doudini’s Kherai-trance mediumistic power, already forbidden in the baseline’s ‘power_of_god’ entry. John structures his entire Gospel around seven such signs culminating in the purpose statement of 20:30-31, which should be flagged for maximal cross-document consistency.
The Good Shepherd’s Substitutionary Care
Bodo name: गोदान राखालनि सुहुरनि बाहानाव देखाजाब
Key terms: shepherd, door_gate, lay_down_life
Review routing: Human theologian
राखाल and दुवार are standard, low-risk loanwords, but the doctrine’s core claim — that the shepherd voluntarily lays down his life for the sheep — must be taught as self-giving, not a ritual sacrifice extracted by an appeasement-seeking deity, the same distinction already required for ‘Lamb of God’ and ‘grace.‘
Living Water and the Spirit
Bodo name: जिउनाय दैथाय आरो पबित्र आत्था
Key terms: living_water, holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
जिउनाय दैथाय must be taught as a metaphor for the Spirit’s life-giving work, explicitly confirmed at 7:39, and must not be confused with any ritual water use in Bathou household or Kherai preparatory purification practice.
The Temple of Christ’s Body
Bodo name: मसीहनि गुदि मंदिर महरै
Key terms: temple
Review routing: Human theologian
मंदिर is the ordinary South Asian word for a Hindu temple housing an image, while both the Jerusalem temple and Jesus’ own body-as-temple claim require a very different theological frame; Bathou worship, by contrast, has no built temple structure at all (worship centers on the aniconic sijou plant). No ready Bodo equivalent exists for either pole of this comparison; heavy explanatory framing rather than a search for a ‘safer’ word is required.
Freedom from Slavery to Sin
Bodo name: गुनाहनि गुलामगिरिनिफ्राय मुक्त होनाय
Key terms: freed_liberated, slave_of_sin, truth
Review routing: Human theologian
मुक्त होनाय must not slide toward मोक्ष-style cosmological liberation-from-rebirth language, already forbidden per the baseline’s salvation entry. The freedom in view here is moral-relational (freedom from slavery to sin through the truth and the Son), not the liberation-from-the-cycle framing Brahma Dharma’s reform introduced into Bodo religious discourse.
The Purpose of John’s Gospel (That You May Believe)
Bodo name: जोहननि मंगल खबरनि उद्देश्य
Key terms: faith, messiah, son_of_god, eternal_life
Review routing: Human theologian
This verse functions as a theological summary of nearly every doctrine category in the curriculum simultaneously (Messiah, Sonship, Faith, Eternal Life) and must be flagged for maximal cross-document consistency; no single new lexical term is introduced, but the combination of already-Critical terms (मसीह, ईश्वरनि गोरा, बिश्वास, मोनथिनाय जिउनाय) in one verse raises the aggregate risk to High.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Mission and Sending (as the Father Sent Me, I Send You)
Bodo name: आफानि फेंथानायजों जायखा दायो
Key terms: mission
Review routing: Native speaker review
The disciples’ sending is grounded directly in the Father’s sending of the Son, a new christological grounding for the baseline’s mission term (मंगल खबरनि दायो). Given the history of American Baptist mission work among the Bodo becoming entangled in local memory with colonial-era administration, this should continue to be framed as the church’s own ongoing calling, patterned on Christ, rather than a foreign historical project.
The Kingdom Not of This World
Bodo name: बे जगतनि नङा ईश्वरनि राज्य
Key terms: kingdom_of_god, world_kosmos
Review routing: Native speaker review
Extends the baseline’s caution against a territorial-political reading of God’s kingdom, now sharpened by Pilate’s explicitly political interrogation (18:36) and by the Bodoland Territorial Region’s own strong contemporary association of Bodo identity with territorial-political claims; God’s reign must be taught as entered by new birth, not by ethnic, clan, or territorial belonging.
