Core Glossary

Core Glossary — Matthew 1–28 (English → Marathi)

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, citing terms from every chapter of Matthew. Terms already recorded in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked (baseline reuse) and MUST be rendered exactly as recorded there; no alternative is permitted. New terms introduced by the Matthew curriculum are marked (new — Matthew) and are proposed here for entry into an updated, versioned translation memory prior to Phase 2.

Risk tiers follow the baseline definitions: Critical (theologian review, every occurrence), High (theologian review), Medium (native speaker review), Low (automated review).

Section 3 — Glossary Governance Notes

  1. Version control: All new terms in Section 2 above must be entered into a Matthew-specific extension of translation_memory.json (e.g., translation_memory_matthew.json) before Phase 2 segment translation begins, following the same versioning and enforcement rules specified in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.
  2. No contradiction with baseline: No entry in this glossary overrides or contradicts any baseline Romans term. Where Matthew’s usage narrows or widens a baseline term’s scope (e.g., ἔθνη in 28:19 vs. baseline अन्यजातीय), the distinction is noted explicitly rather than altering the baseline rendering.
  3. Forbidden substitutions carried forward: All baseline forbidden substitutions (मोक्ष, मुक्ती, निर्वाण, धर्म, धम्म, पुनर्जन्म, पुनर्भव, अवतार, शक्ति, कर्मफळ, पुण्य, परमात्मा, ब्रह्म) remain forbidden throughout Matthew and apply with equal force to the new Matthew-specific doctrines identified above (Kingdom of Heaven, eternal life, ransom, regeneration, the end of the age).
  4. New forbidden substitutions established by this curriculum:
    • Kingdom of Heaven: never imply a temporary, karma-earned स्वर्ग way-station.
    • Ransom (20:28): never मुक्ती.
    • Regeneration/new world (19:28): never पुनर्जन्म.
    • Great Commission “all nations” (28:19): never narrowed to अन्यजातीय alone.
    • Son of Man: never flattened to generic मानव (“a human being”).
  5. Chapters requiring no new terms: No chapter of Matthew was found to introduce zero new load-bearing theological vocabulary; every chapter 1–28 contributes at least one term captured in Section 1 or Section 2 above, as documented in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md.

This glossary must be loaded alongside the baseline translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json before any Phase 2 translation of Matthew segments. See analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md for full contextual argumentation behind each entry.
