Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — 1 Timothy 1–6 (Pashto Language Package)
Purpose
This document provides the complete doctrine matrix for 1 Timothy, chapter by chapter, cover to cover, per PRD Phase 1 full-book-coverage mandate. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: every doctrine name, risk tier, and review routing below is identical to that registry. This document adds the chapter-by-chapter narrative walk-through, per-chapter passage mapping, and translation-risk rationale that the registry’s flat JSON structure does not itself display.
The core passage (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Qualifications for Overseers and Deacons) is the theological anchor of this curriculum, not its scope boundary. All six chapters are analyzed below.
Risk tiers and review routing follow the baseline Romans Language Package conventions exactly:
| Tier | Meaning | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | Mistranslation alters or destroys essential doctrine | Human theologian (every occurrence) |
| High | Mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk | Human theologian |
| Medium | Mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning | Native speaker review |
| Low | Mistranslation causes minor misunderstanding | Automated review |
Chapter 1 — Sound Doctrine, the Law, and Paul’s Testimony of Mercy (1 Timothy 1:1-20)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apostleship | 1:1 | High | رسول collides with Muhammad’s defining rasul title, shared shahada context; 1:1’s “by command of God” reinforces this as a founding, divinely-delegated authority, not a self-assumed teaching status. | Human theologian |
| Faith | 1:2, 1:5, 1:19 | High | Both personal-trust and body-of-doctrine (“the faith,” 1:19) senses appear already in chapter 1; must be distinguished from Islamic creedal iman and Pashtunwali honor-loyalty (nang) per baseline. | Human theologian |
| Grace | 1:2, 1:14 | High | 1:14’s “grace overflowed” toward the least deserving recipient must be taught as a one-directional gift, against melmastia’s reciprocity-creating hospitality logic. | Human theologian |
| Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching | 1:3-11 | High | ”تعلیم” (ta’lim) risks being heard as superior Islamic religious instruction rather than fidelity to specific apostolic gospel content; requires explicit content-clarification at first use. | Human theologian |
| Caution Against Genealogy-Based Speculation | 1:4 | High | Direct collision with load-bearing Pashtun tribal genealogy (qawm/khel); Paul’s warning targets speculative distraction from gospel teaching, not lineage itself — must not appear to dismiss a deeply valued cultural institution. | Human theologian |
| Proper (Diagnostic) Use of the Law | 1:8-11 | Critical | ناموس (never شریعت) must be distinguished from both shari’a and Pashtunwali; 1:8-11 additionally requires teaching the law’s diagnostic (sin-exposing), not self-justifying, function — a nuance absent from Romans’ simpler references. | Human theologian |
| Mercy of God Toward the Worst of Sinners | 1:13, 1:15-16 | High | رحمت (rahmat) is also a generic Islamic divine attribute; must be anchored to the concrete narrative of mercy shown to a self-confessed worst-case persecutor as a pattern for all future believers, not left abstract. | Human theologian |
| Paul’s Conversion from Blasphemy and Persecution | 1:13 | High | ”Blasphemer” must avoid the کفر (kufr) root, which carries severe legal-social danger (apostasy category); render descriptively instead. | Human theologian |
| Church Discipline | 1:19-20 (Hymenaeus and Alexander “handed over to Satan”) | Medium | Engages honor-shame dynamics of public correction; must be taught as gospel-motivated restoration, not tribal shaming. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 1 summary: Establishes the letter’s polemical frame (false teachers, the law’s proper use) and Paul’s own testimony as the paradigm of grace and mercy. Nine doctrines active; six Critical/High.
Chapter 2 — Prayer, the One Mediator, and Order in Worship (1 Timothy 2:1-15)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public Worship and Prayer | 2:1-8 | High | دعا (du’a) is standard shared Islamic prayer vocabulary; content commanded — prayer for rulers of any religion, offered exclusively through the one Mediator (2:5) — must be distinguished from ritual-formula du’a; praying for hostile governments carries acute pastoral sensitivity. | Human theologian |
| Christ as the One Mediator | 2:5 | Critical | Directly negates both Sunni direct-access-to-Allah doctrine and the regionally influential Sufi pir/wali intercessor tradition; exclusivity of “one Mediator” must never be softened. | Human theologian |
| Christ’s Ransom for All | 2:6 | Critical | فدیه (fidya) is an existing Islamic legal-ritual compensation category (e.g., missed-fast compensation); risks flattening substitutionary atonement into formulaic payment. Must be paired with the baseline’s nanawatai framing consistently. | Human theologian |
| God/Christ as Savior | 2:3 (cf. 1:1, 4:10) | Critical | ”Savior” as a divine title states the deity/saving-agency claim that Islamic soteriology’s deeds-weighing framework structurally denies. | Human theologian |
| Apostleship | 2:7 | High | Reasserts the rasul-title collision; “teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth” reinforces Paul’s unique founding commission. | Human theologian |
| Women’s Conduct in Worship and the Childbearing Clause | 2:9-15 | Critical | Compounds a historically contested passage with pre-existing tribal-patriarchal/purdah gender norms; the 2:15 childbearing clause must never suggest salvation-by-works, against the whole Language Package’s grace doctrine. Requires theologian ratification before any rendering is fixed. | Human theologian |
| Thanksgiving | 2:1 | Low | شکر is a shared Islamic virtue; broadly compatible. | Automated review |
Chapter 2 summary: The theological hinge of the letter’s early chapters — introduces two of the curriculum’s most acute doctrines (Mediator, Ransom) alongside its most pastorally contested passage (2:9-15). Seven doctrines active; five Critical/High.
Chapter 3 — Qualifications for Overseers and Deacons; the Mystery of Godliness (1 Timothy 3:1-16) — CORE PASSAGE CHAPTER
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qualifications for Overseers (Bishops/Elders) | 3:1-7 | Critical | ناظر collides with South Asian Islamic institutional-supervisor titles, risking a reading as centralized clerical hierarchy paralleling imam/mullah/maulvi authority. “Husband of one wife” (3:2) directly confronts regionally legally-permitted polygamy as a lived, not hypothetical, practice. | Human theologian |
| Qualifications for Deacons | 3:8-13 | High | خدمتګار ordinarily denotes a low-status domestic servant; without explicit teaching this qualification-tested, honored office (culminating in “a good standing,” v.13) risks being flattened into menial labor. | Human theologian |
| The Church as Pillar of Truth | 3:14-15 | Critical | حقیقت (haqiqat) is a major Sufi mystical-stage concept (ultimate truth attained through spiritual progression); biblical truth here is propositional, revealed, apostolic, Christ-centered. The church supports/displays truth; it does not generate or attain it. | Human theologian |
| The Mystery of Godliness (Incarnation Hymn) | 3:16 | Critical | راز (raz) risks a Sufi esoteric hidden-knowledge reading; must be taught as a mystery formerly hidden, now openly revealed and publicly proclaimed — restating the baseline’s Critical تجسد (incarnation) doctrine as an early creedal confession. | Human theologian |
| Ascension of Christ | 3:16 (“taken up in glory”) | Critical | Genuinely new doctrine for this curriculum. Qur’an 4:158 affirms God “raised” (rafa’a) Jesus instead of allowing his death, denying crucifixion outright; the biblical ascension presupposes real death and bodily resurrection and is Christ’s exalting return to the Father after those events. This distinction must be taught explicitly at every occurrence. | Human theologian |
| Godliness and Contentment | 3:16 (“mystery of godliness”) | High | خدای پالنه is chosen over دینداری (generic religiosity) to avoid conflation with Islamic ritual observance; must be tied explicitly to the gospel content of 3:16 at every occurrence. | Human theologian |
Chapter 3 summary — Core Passage: This chapter is the curriculum’s theological anchor (3:1-13) and immediately follows it with the letter’s Christological high point (3:14-16). Six doctrines active, all Critical/High — the highest doctrinal density chapter in the book, matching its status as the core passage.
Chapter 4 — False Asceticism, Godly Training, and Timothy’s Ministry (1 Timothy 4:1-16)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching | 4:1-7 | High | Continues chapter 1’s tension; “the faith” (4:1, “depart from the faith”) reinforces the body-of-doctrine sense requiring careful distinction from madrasa-style ta’lim. | Human theologian |
| Demonic Deception Behind False Teaching | 4:1 | High | Deliberately renders “demons” with بد روحان rather than جن (jinn) to avoid collapsing this narrower NT category into the extensive, differently-structured folk-Islamic jinn-possession/amulet framework. | Human theologian |
| Godliness versus False Asceticism and the Goodness of Creation | 4:1-5 | Medium | Loose resonance with regional Sufi ascetic practice and halal/haram dietary law; targets a specific ascetic-Gnostic error (denying creation’s goodness), not fasting or dietary discipline as legitimate practices. | Native speaker review |
| Guarding the Deposit of Faith | 4:6 | High | امانت parallels the already-documented رسول/Muhammad (al-Amin) title collision; must be taught as guarding revealed apostolic doctrine, not a literal property trust. | Human theologian |
| Godliness and Contentment | 4:7-8 (“train yourself for godliness”) | High | Same خدای پالنه caution as chapter 3; “bodily training… godliness… great gain” must not be read as ascetic self-merit accumulation. | Human theologian |
| Faith | 4:1, 4:6, 4:12 | High | Continues the body-of-doctrine and personal-trust senses; 4:12 (“example… in faith”) shifts toward personal exemplary trust. | Human theologian |
| Commissioning of Church Leaders | 4:14 (prophecy, laying on of hands, council of elders) | Medium | Resonance with Sufi tariqa initiation rites (pir’s hand-clasp/bay’ah); must be taught as symbolic commissioning/prayer with no independent transferential power. | Native speaker review |
| Spiritual Gifts | 4:14 | Medium | Must retain the “spiritual” qualifier so Timothy’s Spirit-given ministry enablement is not read as ordinary talent. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 4 summary: Combines doctrinal polemic (false asceticism, demonic deception) with pastoral instruction on Timothy’s own calling and gifting. Eight doctrines active; five Critical/High, three Medium.
Chapter 5 — Care for Widows, Elders, and the Household of Faith (1 Timothy 5:1-25)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Care for Widows and the Household of Faith | 5:3-16 | High | Pashtun customary levirate-style widow remarriage practice (for inheritance/protection) differs from the church’s dignity-preserving material-support model; the contrast must be taught explicitly, not assumed equivalent. | Human theologian |
| Honor for Elders Who Labor Well | 5:17-19 | High | عزت (izzat) is THE central term of Pashtunwali’s honor code; Paul’s “honor” here layers genuine respect plus material/financial support and must not collapse into tribal reputation/shame-avoidance logic alone. | Human theologian |
| Church Discipline | 5:19-21 (“rebuke in the presence of all,” “two or three witnesses”) | Medium | Engages honor-shame dynamics of public correction; must be taught as gospel-motivated, Scripture-accountable restoration, not jirga-style punitive consensus. | Native speaker review |
| Commissioning of Church Leaders | 5:22 (“do not be hasty in the laying on of hands”) | Medium | Same Sufi tariqa hand-clasp resonance as 4:14; reinforces the caution against treating ordination as conferring independent spiritual power. | Native speaker review |
| Sanctification background (ἁγνός, “keep yourself pure”) | 5:22 | High (per Section B glossary; folded into baseline sanctification High tier for enforcement purposes) | Bare پاک risks the same ritual-purity (wudu-style) misreading the baseline already rejected for sanctification; a fuller descriptive phrase is required rather than a bare rendering. | Human theologian |
Chapter 5 summary: Practical household-of-faith instructions built on honor-shame-sensitive categories (widows, elders’ honor, discipline). Five doctrine-relevant items active; three High, two Medium.
Chapter 6 — Slaves and Masters, False Teachers, Contentment, and the Good Confession (1 Timothy 6:1-21)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Household Relationships: Bondservants and Masters | 6:1-2 | Medium | Must be framed as pastoral instruction within a first-century historical institution, not an endorsement of slavery, and distinguished from contemporary bonded/forced-labor practices in the region. | Native speaker review |
| Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching | 6:3-5, 6:20-21 | High | Reinforces chapters 1 and 4’s polemic against teaching not conforming to “sound words” and godliness; ta’lim resonance caution applies again. | Human theologian |
| Godliness and Contentment | 6:3, 6:5-6, 6:11 | High | Continues خدای پالنه caution; قناعت (contentment, 6:6) is a genuine shared Islamic/Sufi ethical virtue but must be anchored to gospel-rooted godliness, not generalized ascetic resignation or fatalistic qadar acceptance. | Human theologian |
| Warning Against Godliness as a Means of Financial Gain | 6:5, 6:9-10 | Medium | Paul’s claim is “a root of all kinds of evils,” not an absolute single-cause claim (“the root of all evil”); rendering must preserve this precise, limited scope. | Native speaker review |
| Faith | 6:10-12, 6:21 | High | ”Wandered from the faith” and “keep the faith” reinforce the body-of-doctrine sense; must remain distinct from Islamic creedal iman and Pashtunwali nang-loyalty per baseline. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling to Eternal Life | 6:12 | Medium | A sovereign summons from God, not human-initiated seeking or impersonal fate; consistent with the baseline’s divine_calling doctrine. | Native speaker review |
| The Good Confession | 6:12-14 | High | اقرار is an established Islamic legal/testimonial term conceptually adjacent to the shahada; the confession’s specific content (Christ’s Lordship and deity) must be stated explicitly at every occurrence, never left as an interchangeable generic formula. | Human theologian |
| The Lordship and Kingship of Christ | 6:15-16 | Critical | Builds on the baseline’s Critical lordship_of_christ doctrine; supreme, singular sovereignty (“King of kings, Lord of lords”) over all other rulers must never be softened to first-among-equals honor, especially given competing regional political-religious sovereignty claims. | Human theologian |
| Guarding the Deposit of Faith | 6:20-21 | High | Closing bookend to 4:6; امانت’s al-Amin (Muhammad-title) resonance must again be actively corrected, teaching guarded apostolic doctrine, not a literal trust. | Human theologian |
Chapter 6 summary: The letter’s closing doctrinal and pastoral crescendo — social ethics (slaves/masters), a return to false-teacher polemic, contentment/godliness, and the letter’s climactic Christological doxology (6:15-16). Nine doctrines active; six Critical/High, three Medium.

Note on registry arithmetic:
doctrine_risk_registry.json’srisk_summaryrecords Medium as 9 (yielding a stated total of 35); a direct count of thedoctrinesobject in that file yields 34 entries with 8 at Medium tier. This document’s doctrine list, names, and individual tiers are fully identical to the registry; this note is preserved for Phase 2 auditors reconciling the registry’s summary field against its own doctrine list, and should not be resolved by altering any individual doctrine’s tier without theologian sign-off.

Critical Risk Doctrines
Proper (Diagnostic) Use of the Law
Pashto name: د ناموس سم کارونه
Key terms: law, lawful use
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: Pashtun society lives under two parallel normative systems (shari’a and Pashtunwali); the law’s role here as exposing sin (a diagnostic, not a self-justifying performance system) must be distinguished from both regional systems, following the baseline’s established ناموس (never شریعت) precedent, with the added burden of a book explicitly discussing ‘lawful use’ of that term.
Christ as the One Mediator
Pashto name: مسیح د یو واحد منځګړی په توګه
Key terms: mediator, one mediator, one God
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: directly negates both (a) the Sunni doctrine of direct, unmediated prayer to Allah with no intermediary, and (b) the regionally influential Sufi pir/wali intercessor and shrine-veneration tradition (already noted as a live cultural force in the baseline’s glory entry). The exclusivity of ‘one mediator’ must never be softened to ‘a helper’ or ‘an intercessor among others.‘
Christ’s Ransom for All
Pashto name: د مسیح فديه د ټولو لپاره
Key terms: ransom, gave himself
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: فدیه (fidya) is an existing Islamic legal-ritual compensation term (e.g., for a missed fast); risks flattening Christ’s once-for-all substitutionary death into a formulaic legal payment. The baseline’s nanawatai (ritual submission ending a blood feud) framing for atonement must be invoked explicitly alongside this term, consistently across every occurrence, per the baseline’s cross-document consistency rule.
God/Christ as Savior
Pashto name: خدای/مسیح د ژغورونکي په توګه
Key terms: savior, living God who is Savior of all
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ‘Savior’ applied as a divine title to God (built on the baseline’s Critical نجات root) states the deity/saving-agency claim that Islamic soteriology’s self-effort/deeds-weighing framework structurally denies; 4:10’s ‘especially of believers’ must be taught as clarifying application, not limiting the universal scope of God’s saving offer, per the baseline’s universal_scope_of_gospel precedent.
Women’s Conduct in Worship and the Childbearing Clause
Pashto name: د ښځو دنده په عبادت کې او د اولاد زیږولو جمله
Key terms: quietness, submission, saved through childbearing
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: a historically contested passage across the whole Christian tradition, whose risk is compounded (not created) by pre-existing tribal-patriarchal and purdah-based gender norms already present in the culture. The 2:15 childbearing clause especially must never be rendered so as to suggest salvation by works (childbearing), directly contradicting the whole Language Package’s grace/imputed-righteousness doctrine; requires theologian ratification before any final rendering is fixed.
Qualifications for Overseers (Bishops/Elders)
Pashto name: د ناظرانو/مشرانو وړتیاوې
Key terms: overseer, above reproach, husband of one wife, able to teach, manage his household
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ناظر collides with South Asian Islamic institutional-supervisor titles and risks being read as a centralized clerical hierarchy paralleling imam/mullah/maulvi authority. Additionally, ‘husband of one wife’ directly confronts regionally legally-permitted polygamy (up to four wives under shari’a) as a real, lived practice, not a hypothetical monogamy-default norm; both risks require deliberate, explicit teaching rather than silent assumption.
The Church as Pillar of Truth
Pashto name: کلیسا د حقیقت ستن په توګه
Key terms: church of the living God, pillar, foundation, the truth
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: حقیقت (haqiqat) is also a major Sufi mystical-stage concept denoting ultimate truth attained through spiritual progression; biblical ‘truth’ here is propositional, revealed, apostolic, and Christ-centered — the church supports and displays it, but does not generate, attain, or possess it as an esoteric achievement. Must be taught against both this Sufi framework and against reading the church itself as truth’s source.
The Mystery of Godliness (Incarnation Hymn)
Pashto name: د خدای پالنې راز (د تجسد سندره)
Key terms: mystery of godliness, manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: راز (raz, mystery) risks a Sufi esoteric-mystical-knowledge reading (an inner secret revealed only to initiates); must be taught as the opposite — a mystery formerly hidden, now openly revealed and publicly proclaimed, restating the baseline’s Critical incarnation doctrine (تجسد) as an early creedal confession, with Pashto’s especially thin Christian theological tradition offering the least settled local precedent of any language in this pipeline.
Ascension of Christ
Pashto name: د مسیح جلال ته پورته کیدل
Key terms: taken up in glory
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: a genuinely new doctrine for this curriculum beyond the Romans baseline. Qur’an 4:158 affirms God ‘raised’ (rafa’a) Jesus to himself — but as an alternative to death and crucifixion, denying he died at all. The biblical ascension presupposes real death and bodily resurrection and is Christ’s exalting return to the Father after those events, not a rescue instead of them; this distinction must be taught explicitly at every occurrence, never assumed as already-shared ground.
The Lordship and Kingship of Christ
Pashto name: د مسیح خداوندي او پاچاهي
Key terms: King of kings, Lord of lords
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: builds on the baseline’s Critical lordship_of_christ doctrine (خداوند); this supreme, singular sovereignty over all other rulers and lords must never be softened to mere leadership or first-among-equals honor, especially given the region’s competing claims to political-religious sovereignty.
High Risk Doctrines
Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Pashto name: سالمه تعلیم د غلط تعلیماتو پر خلاف
Key terms: sound doctrine, different doctrine, myths, genealogies, demons
Review routing: Human theologian
‘تعلیم’ (ta’lim) is heavily associated with formal Islamic religious instruction (madrasa/Qur’anic ta’lim); readers may default to hearing ‘sound doctrine’ as a claim of superior madrasa-style religious learning rather than fidelity to a specific, historically-delivered apostolic gospel content. Must be paired with explicit content clarification at first use in every document.
Caution Against Genealogy-Based Speculation
Pashto name: د شجرو له مخې ورانه تعلیم پر ضد خبرداری
Key terms: genealogies, myths
Review routing: Human theologian
Pashtun identity is organized around rigorous, socially load-bearing tribal genealogy (qawm/khel lineage). Paul’s warning against ‘endless genealogies’ displacing gospel teaching risks being heard as a devaluation of lineage itself rather than a warning against a specific first-century speculative distraction; must be taught with explicit care not to appear to dismiss a deeply valued cultural institution.
Grace
Pashto name: فضل
Key terms: grace, grace overflowed
Review routing: Human theologian
1:14’s picture of grace ‘overflowing’ toward the least deserving recipient (Paul, ‘chief of sinners’) must be taught as a one-directional gift creating no repayment obligation, directly against the reciprocity-creating logic of Pashtunwali’s melmastia hospitality code.
Mercy of God Toward the Worst of Sinners
Pashto name: د خدای رحمت پر ترټولو لوی ګناهکار
Key terms: mercy, foremost of sinners
Review routing: Human theologian
رحمت (rahmat) is also a major generic Islamic divine attribute (Ar-Rahim); Paul’s specific point — mercy shown to a self-confessed, worst-case persecutor and blasphemer as a pattern for all future believers — must be anchored to this concrete narrative, not left as an abstract divine quality assumed already shared and understood.
Paul’s Conversion from Blasphemy and Persecution
Pashto name: د پولوس بدلون له سپکاوي او ځورونې څخه
Key terms: blasphemer, persecutor, insolent
Review routing: Human theologian
Rendering ‘blasphemer’ with the کفر (kufr, disbelief/apostasy) root would import a loaded and legally dangerous Islamic category with severe social-legal consequences for readers; a descriptive rendering (‘one who dishonored God’) is required instead.
Faith
Pashto name: ایمان
Key terms: faith, the faith, sincere faith
Review routing: Human theologian
In 1 Timothy ‘the faith’ frequently denotes the body of apostolic doctrine (e.g., 4:1, ‘depart from the faith’; 6:21, ‘departed from the faith’) rather than only personal trust; both senses must be kept distinct from Islamic creedal iman and from Pashtunwali’s honor-code loyalty (nang), consistent with the baseline’s faith doctrine.
Public Worship and Prayer
Pashto name: عامه لمانځه او دعا
Key terms: supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for kings and all in authority
Review routing: Human theologian
دعا (du’a) is the standard shared Islamic prayer term, usable, but the content commanded — prayer for governing authorities of any religion, offered exclusively through Christ the one Mediator (2:5) — must be distinguished from ritual-formula du’a; praying for rulers carries acute pastoral sensitivity where ‘those in authority’ may include hostile or persecuting governments.
Qualifications for Deacons
Pashto name: د خدمتګارانو وړتیاوې
Key terms: deacon, dignified, not double-tongued, tested first
Review routing: Human theologian
خدمتګار ordinarily denotes a low-status domestic servant in Pashtun society; without explicit teaching this qualification-tested, honored ministry office (culminating in ‘a good standing,’ v.13) risks being flattened into menial labor rather than recognized church office.
Godliness and Contentment
Pashto name: خدای پالنه او قناعت
Key terms: godliness, contentment, train yourself for godliness, great gain
Review routing: Human theologian
خدای پالنه is chosen over ‘دینداری’ (din-dari, generic religiosity) to avoid conflation with Islamic ritual religious observance; must be tied explicitly to the gospel content of 3:16 at every occurrence. قناعت (contentment) is a genuine cultural asset shared with Islamic/Sufi ethical tradition but must be anchored to gospel-rooted godliness, not generalized ascetic resignation or fatalistic qadar acceptance.
Demonic Deception Behind False Teaching
Pashto name: د غلط تعلیماتو تر شا بد روحان
Key terms: deceiving spirits, teachings of demons
Review routing: Human theologian
Deliberately renders ‘demons’ with بد روحان rather than ‘جن’ (jinn) to prevent collapsing this narrower, doctrine-specific NT category (agents of teaching-deception, defeated in Christ) into the extensive, differently-structured folk-Islamic jinn-possession/amulet/exorcism framework prevalent in Pashtun folk religion.
Guarding the Deposit of Faith
Pashto name: د ایمان امانت ساتل
Key terms: the deposit, guard the deposit, avoid irreverent babble
Review routing: Human theologian
امانت (amanat, a trust/deposit) is a major Islamic ethical-legal concept historically and famously associated with Muhammad’s honorific title al-Amin (‘the trustworthy one’) — a direct parallel to the already-documented رسول/apostle collision with Muhammad’s titles in the baseline. Must be taught explicitly as guarding revealed apostolic doctrine, not a literal property trust, actively correcting rather than assuming the Muhammad-title resonance transfers cleanly.
Care for Widows and the Household of Faith
Pashto name: کونډو او د ایمان کورنۍ ته پاملرنه
Key terms: widow, widow indeed, household of faith
Review routing: Human theologian
Pashtun customary practice sometimes involves levirate-style widow remarriage within the deceased husband’s family (for inheritance/protection reasons) rather than the church-based, dignity-preserving material-support model Paul describes; the contrast between customary practice and the biblical model must be taught explicitly, not assumed as equivalent.
Honor for Elders Who Labor Well
Pashto name: هغو مشرانو ته عزت چې ښه کار کوي
Key terms: double honor, the laborer deserves his wages
Review routing: Human theologian
عزت (izzat) is THE central term of Pashtunwali’s honor code (nang/izzat); Paul’s ‘honor’ here layers genuine respect plus material/financial support for faithful ministers and must not collapse into (or be limited to) the tribal honor-code’s reputation/shame-avoidance logic alone.
The Good Confession
Pashto name: ښه اقرار
Key terms: good confession, Christ Jesus who testified
Review routing: Human theologian
اقرار is an established Islamic legal/testimonial term conceptually adjacent to the shahada confession formula; the content of this confession — Christ’s Lordship and deity — must be stated explicitly and consistently at every occurrence, never left as a generic formula that could be heard as interchangeable with the shahada.
Apostleship
Pashto name: رسالت
Key terms: apostle, by the command of God
Review routing: Human theologian
Collides with Muhammad’s rasul title as in the Romans baseline; Paul’s apostleship here is explicitly grounded in a direct divine command (1:1), reinforcing that this is a founding, delegated authority distinct from any teacher’s self-assumed status.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Warning Against Godliness as a Means of Financial Gain
Pashto name: خبرداری د خدای پالنې د ګټې وسیله ګڼلو پر ضد
Key terms: supposing godliness to be a means of gain, love of money
Review routing: Native speaker review
Paul’s claim is that love of money is ‘a root of all kinds of evils,’ not an absolute single-cause claim (‘the root of all evil’); Pashto rendering must preserve this more limited, precise scope.
Godliness versus False Asceticism and the Goodness of Creation
Pashto name: د کاذب زهد پر ضد او د مخلوق نیکي
Key terms: forbidding marriage, abstinence from foods, every creature of God is good
Review routing: Native speaker review
Loose resonance with regional Sufi ascetic practice and Islamic dietary law (halal/haram); this critique targets a specific early ascetic-Gnostic false doctrine (denying creation’s goodness), not fasting or dietary discipline as legitimate spiritual disciplines, and must be taught with that distinction explicit.
Commissioning of Church Leaders
Pashto name: د کلیسا مشرانو ټاکل او منسوب کول
Key terms: prophecy, laying on of hands, council of elders
Review routing: Native speaker review
Resonance with Sufi tariqa initiation rites involving a pir’s hand-clasp/bay’ah; must be taught as a symbolic act of commissioning and prayer with no independent transferential spiritual power, distinct from any pir-mediated blessing.
Church Discipline
Pashto name: کلیسايي نظم او سرغړونې پرېکړه
Key terms: handed over to Satan, rebuke in the presence of all, two or three witnesses
Review routing: Native speaker review
Engages honor-shame dynamics of public correction directly; must be taught as gospel-motivated, Scripture-accountable restoration, not tribal shaming or jirga-style punitive consensus.
Household Relationships: Bondservants and Masters
Pashto name: د کورنۍ اړیکې: غلامان او باداران
Key terms: bondservants, masters, believing masters
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must be framed clearly as pastoral instruction for believers within a first-century historical social institution, not a timeless endorsement of slavery, and must be distinguished from any contemporary bonded/forced-labor practices in the region.
Clear Conscience and Personal Integrity
Pashto name: پاک وجدان او شخصي بشپړتیا
Key terms: clean conscience, seared conscience, sincere faith
Review routing: Native speaker review
وجدان is widely used and generally safe as a term, but must be reinforced as a God-oriented moral faculty (accountability before God), not merely a socially-oriented, honor/shame-avoidance faculty as Pashtunwali ethics primarily track.
Divine Calling to Eternal Life
Pashto name: د تلپاتې ژوند لپاره الهي بلنه
Key terms: called, eternal life to which you were called
Review routing: Native speaker review
A sovereign summons from God, not human-initiated seeking or impersonal fate; consistent with the baseline’s divine_calling doctrine.
Spiritual Gifts
Pashto name: روحاني ورکړې
Key terms: the gift, prophecy with the laying on of hands
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must retain the ‘spiritual’ qualifier so Timothy’s Spirit-given ministry enablement is not read as ordinary talent, consistent with the baseline.
Low Risk Doctrines
Thanksgiving
Pashto name: شکر
Key terms: thanksgivings
Review routing: Automated review
Shukr is also a major Islamic virtue; broadly compatible, low risk, consistent with the baseline.
