Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis: 2 Timothy (Full-Book Coverage)
Methodology
This analysis walks 2 Timothy chapter by chapter, first verse to last, identifying every doctrine in the curriculum’s assigned list (Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture, Perseverance under Suffering, Guarding Sound Doctrine, Faithful Transmission of the Gospel, The Charge to Preach the Word, Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days, Assurance of Reward) plus every additional doctrine load-bearing enough to require its own entry in doctrine_risk_registry.json (Christological, pneumatological, and soteriological doctrines that recur or intensify in this book). The core passage, 2 Timothy 3:14–4:5, is the theological anchor of the curriculum but is not treated as the boundary of analysis; every chapter is reviewed in full, and any chapter section that introduces no new doctrine or term is explicitly noted as reviewed rather than silently skipped.
Risk tiers, doctrine names, and review routing in every table below are held identical to assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json. This document does not introduce new risk tiers; it documents the chapter-by-chapter evidence trail that produced them and supplies the passage-level translation-risk rationale.
Chapter 1 (2 Timothy 1:1-18) — Coverage
Summary: Opening greeting, thanksgiving, and Paul’s charge to Timothy to not be ashamed but to guard the “good deposit” through the Spirit’s power. Introduces the appearing/epiphaneia disambiguation problem, the eternal-grace doctrine, and the honor-shame reversal doctrine central to this letter’s persecution context.
| Verse(s) | Doctrine(s) Present | Risk Tier | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1-2 | Apostleship (baseline); grace, mercy, peace greeting formula | High (apostle, baseline) / Low (thanksgiving formula) | Reuses baseline رسول (rasul) exactly; collides with Muhammad’s defining title. Greeting triad فضل، رحمت، سوله is broadly compatible vocabulary. |
| 1:3 | Thanksgiving | Low | شکر (shukr) is a shared Islamic virtue; must anchor “I thank God” to Paul’s specific covenant-continuity claim (“whom I serve from my forefathers”), not generic piety. |
| 1:4-5 | Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (unfeigned faith dwelling first in Lois and Eunice) | High | Establishes the multi-generational transmission pattern that 1:13-14 and 2:2 make explicit; must not be read as inherited tribal/family religious identity rather than personally appropriated faith. |
| 1:6-7 | Spiritual Gifts and Empowerment for Ministry | Medium | ”Stir up the gift of God” and “spirit of power, love, and a sound mind” vs. “spirit of fear” — must retain روحاني qualifier and frame empowerment as enabling bold-yet-wise ministry under real persecution risk, not generic courage. |
| 1:8 | Perseverance under Suffering; Honor Reversal in Suffering for Christ | High / High | ”Be not ashamed of the testimony” and “partaker of the afflictions of the gospel” — first occurrence of the shame-reversal doctrine; sets up 1:12, 1:16. |
| 1:9 | Grace Given Before the Ages; Divine Calling; Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing (first appearing) | High / Medium / Critical | ”Not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” — must not read as reciprocity-creating gift (melmastia default); “holy calling” needs explicit divine-address framing; first occurrence of ἐπιφάνεια family requires disambiguation from 4:1/4:8’s second appearing. |
| 1:10 | Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing; Resurrection of Christ (implicit, “abolished death”) | Critical / Critical | ”Manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” — the first-appearing sense of epiphaneia; must be corrected against the Sunni Isa-as-subordinate-prophet narrative from its very first occurrence in the book. |
| 1:11-12 | Apostleship (baseline); Perseverance under Suffering; Honor Reversal in Suffering | High / High / High | ”I am not ashamed” repeats the shame-reversal doctrine; “I know whom I have believed” anchors assurance in the object of faith (Christ), not the strength of Timothy’s own faith. |
| 1:13-14 | Guarding Sound Doctrine; Faithful Transmission of the Gospel | Critical / High | ”Hold fast the pattern of sound words” and “keep that good thing which was committed unto thee, by the Holy Ghost” — first full statement of the امانت (deposit) doctrine and the روغ تعلیم (sound words) doctrine, both load-bearing for the whole book. |
| 1:14 | Deity of the Holy Spirit (baseline holy_spirit, Critical) | Critical | ”By the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us” — reuses baseline روح القدس exactly; created-being-vs-divine-Person distinction must be made explicit. |
| 1:15-18 | Honor Reversal in Suffering for Christ (Onesiphorus was not ashamed of Paul’s chain); Church as God’s People (background, baseline Critical) | High / Critical (background) | Onesiphorus’s household as a model of costly loyalty to an imprisoned, socially disgraced apostle — reinforces the shame-reversal doctrine from the positive/exemplary direction. |
Chapters/sections reviewed with no new doctrine beyond those already tracked: none in Chapter 1; every section carries load-bearing doctrinal content.
Chapter 2 (2 Timothy 2:1-26) — Coverage
Summary: The chapter of images (soldier, athlete, farmer, vessel) built around the charge to “commit to faithful men” the deposit of sound teaching, the hymn of Christ’s faithfulness (2:11-13), the warning against Hymenaeus and Philetus’s resurrection-denial, and the gift of repentance.
| Verse(s) | Doctrine(s) Present | Risk Tier | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2:1-2 | Faithful Transmission of the Gospel | High | ”The things that thou hast heard of me… commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” — the multi-generational transmission chain (Paul → Timothy → faithful men → others) is the doctrine’s clearest statement in the book; content must be fixed apostolic doctrine, not open to ijtihad-style reinterpretation at each stage. |
| 2:3-4 | Perseverance under Suffering | High | Soldier metaphor (“endure hardness,” “no man that warreth entangleth himself”) — politically dangerous if misheard as literal armed-struggle endorsement in this conflict-affected, jihadist-rhetoric-saturated region; must stay strictly figurative. |
| 2:5-6 | Perseverance under Suffering; Assurance of Reward | High / High | Athlete (“crowned, if he strive lawfully”) and farmer (“first partaker of the fruits”) images anticipate 4:7-8’s crown-of-righteousness and finished-course language; keep imagery simple and consistent. |
| 2:7-9 | Resurrection of Christ; Faithful Transmission of the Gospel | Critical / High | ”Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound” — direct affirmation of bodily resurrection tied to Davidic lineage (baseline seed_of_david, High) plus the keystone imprisonment-encouragement doctrine (word of God not bound). |
| 2:10 | Assurance of Reward; Salvation (baseline, Critical) | High / Critical | ”That they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory” — salvation explicitly bound to eternal glory/reward; must not be separated into two different soteriological categories. |
| 2:11-13 | Faithfulness of God amid Human Unfaithfulness; Assurance of Reward; Resurrection/union with Christ (background) | High / High | The “faithful sayings” hymn: “if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him… if we deny him, he also will deny us… he abideth faithful” — the conditional warning beside the unconditional divine faithfulness must be balanced so salvation is not read as merit-precarious, collapsing into the shared Islamic deeds-weighing framework already flagged Critical in the baseline. |
| 2:14-15 | Guarding Sound Doctrine | Critical | ”Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth” — first occurrence of the “rightly dividing” term; reinforces the sound-doctrine doctrine from the study/diligence angle. |
| 2:16-19 | Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days; Resurrection of Christ; Assurance of Reward | Critical / Critical / High | Hymenaeus and Philetus “concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already, and overthrow the faith of some” — the book’s clearest internal parallel to the Quranic crucifixion/resurrection-denial pattern; “nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure” immediately supplies the assurance counterweight. |
| 2:20-22 | Sanctification and Honorable Use | High | Vessels unto honor/dishonor — عزت (izzat) is a genuinely positive Pashtunwali bridge but must be calibrated to God-set-apart honor (sanctification), not tribal/family honor. |
| 2:22 | Faith, righteousness, peace (baseline terms, reused) | High/Critical/Medium (baseline) | “Follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace” — pursue-list reusing baseline صداقت، ایمان، سوله exactly. |
| 2:23-24 | Guarding Sound Doctrine (avoiding foolish questions/strivings) | Critical | Extends the sound-doctrine doctrine into interpersonal ministry conduct (“apt to teach, patient”). |
| 2:25-26 | Gift of Repentance | High | ”If God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth… recovered out of the snare of the devil” — sovereign-grace claim (God gives repentance) against the Islamic tawba default of repentance as primarily human-initiated. |
Chapters/sections reviewed with no new doctrine beyond those already tracked: none; Chapter 2 is the densest doctrinal chapter after the core passage.
Chapter 3 (2 Timothy 3:1-17) — Coverage
Summary: The “perilous times” catalogue of last-days apostasy (3:1-9), Paul’s own suffering as a model (3:10-13), and the core passage’s opening half: the charge to continue in what Timothy has learned, culminating in the Scripture’s inspiration and sufficiency (3:14-17).
| Verse(s) | Doctrine(s) Present | Risk Tier | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3:1-5 | Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days | Critical | ”Perilous times,” “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof” — must be distinguished from the regionally-loaded Mahdi/Dajjal akhir zaman apocalyptic framework; “form of godliness” is a double-edged term needing explicit clarification that true godliness includes the Spirit’s power. |
| 3:6-9 | Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days | Critical | Impostors/seducers, “reprobate concerning the faith” — avoid conflating with the technical Reformed doctrine of “reprobation”; this is a this-passage descriptive term, not a systematic-theology category being introduced. |
| 3:10-12 | Perseverance under Suffering | High | ”All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” — normalizes persecution as the expected cost of faithful discipleship for this readership; must be distinguished from Pashtunwali honor/badal-code suffering-for-vindication logic. |
| 3:13 | Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days | Critical | ”Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse” — trajectory statement continuing the chapter’s warning. |
| 3:14-15 | Faithful Transmission of the Gospel; Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture; Salvation (baseline) | High / Critical / Critical | ”Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of… from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation” — CORE PASSAGE OPENING. First direct occurrence of مقدس نوشتې (sacred writings); ties Scripture’s sufficiency directly to نجات (salvation, baseline Critical). |
| 3:16 | Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture; Guarding Sound Doctrine | Critical / Critical | ”All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” — CORE PASSAGE. The single highest-stakes term in the book: theopneustos (“God-breathed”) must avoid both الهام (demotes Scripture below Qur’an/wahy in the local Islamic hierarchy) and وحی (overcorrects to a dictation model erasing human authorship). |
| 3:17 | Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture | Critical | ”That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” — CORE PASSAGE. Direct sufficiency claim contrary to the regional Qur’an-plus-hadith-corpus model requiring supplementary legal/practical authority beyond the text itself. |
Chapters/sections reviewed with no new doctrine beyond those already tracked: none; all of Chapter 3 is load-bearing, and verses 14-17 open the core passage.
Chapter 4 (2 Timothy 4:1-22) — Coverage
Summary: The solemn charge to preach the word (4:1-5, completing the core passage), Paul’s valedictory testimony (4:6-8), personal instructions and greetings (4:9-22), including the providence/deliverance doctrine and the closing doxology.
| Verse(s) | Doctrine(s) Present | Risk Tier | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4:1 | Deity and Lordship of Christ as Universal Judge; Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing (second appearing); Kingdom of God (baseline) | Critical / Critical / Medium | ”I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom” — CORE PASSAGE CLOSE. Assigns exclusive Yawm al-Qiyamah judgment prerogative (Allah-alone in Sunni theology) to Christ; ἐπιφάνεια here is the second appearing and must be disambiguated from 1:10’s first appearing, correcting the Sunni Isa-returns-as-subordinate-to-Mahdi narrative. |
| 4:2 | The Charge to Preach the Word; Guarding Sound Doctrine | Critical / Critical | ”Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” — CORE PASSAGE. Must avoid وعظ’s mosque-sermon public-standing connotation given the underground house-church safety context; “be ready in season/out of season” carries real pastoral-safety tension requiring wisdom-in-timing framing rather than blanket public-proclamation instruction. |
| 4:3-4 | Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days; Guarding Sound Doctrine | Critical / Critical | ”For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine… turned unto fables” — CORE PASSAGE. “Itching ears” idiom has no natural literal Pashto equivalent and must be rendered periphrastically without losing its critique of self-selected teaching. |
| 4:5 | The Charge to Preach the Word; Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (gospel, baseline) | Critical / High | ”Watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry” — CORE PASSAGE CLOSE. Personally identifying as one who does مبشر work is a personal-identity extension of the baseline’s mission/evangelism Critical safety rating; خدمت (ministry) must avoid Sufi pir-service (khidmat) collision. |
| 4:6-8 | Assurance of Reward; Perseverance under Suffering | High / High | ”I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness” — the book’s climactic assurance statement; د صداقت تاج (crown of righteousness) must connect explicitly to the baseline’s Critical imputed_righteousness doctrine (credited, not earned) so reward completes grace rather than constituting separate merit. Martial “good fight” metaphor requires the same strictly-figurative caution as 2:3-4. |
| 4:8 | Deity and Lordship of Christ as Universal Judge; Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing | Critical / Critical | ”The Lord, the righteous judge… to all them also that love his appearing” — reinforces 4:1’s judge doctrine and the second-appearing sense of epiphaneia; “love his appearing” contrasts directly with 4:10’s “loved this present world.” |
| 4:9-15 | Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (background: personal faithfulness/unfaithfulness of co-workers); Apostasy and False Teachers (Demas) | High / Critical | ”Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world” — apostasy-by-worldliness/compromise rather than false doctrine per se; a distinct, safety-relevant temptation (compromise to avoid persecution) worth flagging alongside doctrinal apostasy. |
| 4:16-18 | Providence and Deliverance; Assurance of Reward | Medium / High | ”The Lord stood with me, and strengthened me… the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom” — خلاصول (ongoing providential rescue) must stay distinct from نجات (salvation itself) though flowing from the same divine character; distinguish from folk qadar fatalism. |
| 4:18 | Deity and Lordship of Christ; Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing (background: heavenly kingdom) | Critical | Closing doxology, “to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” — reuses baseline جلال (glory) and آمین (Amen) exactly. |
| 4:19-22 | Church as God’s People (baseline, background); Christian Fellowship (baseline, background) | Critical/Low (baseline, background) | Personal greetings to Priscilla, Aquila, Onesiphorus’s household, and the closing benediction — corporate, dispersed-community background consistent with the baseline’s church doctrine (never a public building in this context). |
Chapters/sections reviewed with no new doctrine beyond those already tracked: none; Chapter 4 carries the highest doctrinal density of the book, including the core passage’s climax.
Consolidated Full-Book Doctrine Matrix
This table is doctrine-indexed (rather than chapter-indexed) and is held consistent, term-for-term and tier-for-tier, with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json.
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 Timothy) | Risk Tier | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture | 3:15, 3:16, 3:17 | Critical | theopneustos collides with the Islamic ilham/wahy inspiration hierarchy; “thoroughly equipped…unto all good works” (3:17) asserts sufficiency directly contrary to the regional Qur’an-plus-hadith-corpus model. | Human theologian |
| Guarding Sound Doctrine | 1:13-14, 2:2, 2:15, 2:23-24, 3:16, 4:2-3 | Critical | روغ تعلیم must not drift toward صحیح (hadith-authentication register); this is Scripture’s own self-authenticating, health-giving character, not chain-of-transmission authentication. | Human theologian |
| Faithful Transmission of the Gospel | 1:4-5, 1:13-14, 2:2, 2:8-9, 2:10-12(bg), 4:5, 4:7 | High | امانت is a genuine positive Islamic/cultural bridge (a trust to be returned unaltered), but must be specified as fixed apostolic doctrine, never open to ijtihad-style personal reinterpretation. | Human theologian |
| The Charge to Preach the Word | 4:1-2, 4:5 | Critical | وعظ’s mosque-sermon public-standing frame is socially dangerous for this underground house-church readership; identifying as مبشر compounds baseline mission/evangelism danger to personal, capital-level risk. | Human theologian |
| Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days | 2:16-18, 3:1-9, 3:13, 4:3-4, 4:10 | Critical | Collides with the Islamic legal category of ridda (capital-offense apostasy from Islam); must never be phrasable as an accusation that someone has “left Islam.” | Human theologian |
| Perseverance under Suffering | 1:8, 1:12, 2:3-6, 3:10-12, 4:5-7 | High | Pashtunwali’s badal/nang honor-code suffering-for-vindication logic must be distinguished from suffering specifically for Christ with eschatological reward in view; soldier/fight metaphors are politically dangerous if misheard as literal armed-struggle endorsement. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Reward | 2:10, 2:12, 2:19, 4:7-8, 4:18 | High | Crown of righteousness must tie to the baseline’s Critical imputed_righteousness (credited, not earned) so reward completes grace rather than constituting separate merit, avoiding collapse into the shared Islamic deeds-weighing framework. | Human theologian |
| Deity and Lordship of Christ as Universal Judge | 4:1, 4:8 | Critical | Assigns Allah-alone’s exclusive Yawm al-Qiyamah judgment prerogative to Christ; must never be softened to a delegated or representative judicial role. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection of Christ | 2:8, 2:18 | Critical | Hymenaeus/Philetus’s “resurrection is past already” parallels the Quran’s crucifixion-denial pattern; requires affirming a real, historical, still-future bodily resurrection against both errors. | Human theologian |
| Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing | 1:9-10, 4:1, 4:8 | Critical | Single Greek epiphaneia covers both first (incarnate) and second (visible-return) appearing; false-friend collision with Sunni eschatology’s subordinate-role Isa-returns narrative; Pashto’s thin Christian tradition offers the least settled precedent. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling | 1:9 | Medium | Everyday invitation-vocabulary; the direction of address (God summoning to a holy calling) needs explicit framing. | Native speaker review |
| Sanctification and Honorable Use | 2:20-22 | High | عزت (izzat) is a positive Pashtunwali bridge but must be calibrated to God-set-apart honor, not tribal/family honor. | Human theologian |
| Gift of Repentance | 2:25-26 | High | Islamic tawba frames repentance as primarily human-initiated within a deeds-and-mercy system; this passage’s “God…give them repentance” is a sovereign-grace claim requiring explicit teaching against that default. | Human theologian |
| Honor Reversal in Suffering for Christ | 1:8, 1:12, 1:16 | High | ”Not ashamed” of imprisonment/association with a condemned prisoner is a deliberate reversal of ordinary Pashtun honor-shame calculus; must be taught explicitly, not assumed self-evident. | Human theologian |
| Faithfulness of God amid Human Unfaithfulness | 2:11-13 | High | The conditional “if we deny him, he also will deny us” beside “he abideth faithful” must be balanced so salvation is not read as merit-precarious. | Human theologian |
| Spiritual Gifts and Empowerment for Ministry | 1:6-7 | Medium | Must retain the روحاني qualifier so the gift is not read as ordinary talent; frame empowerment as enabling bold-yet-wise ministry under persecution, contrasted with “the spirit of fear.” | Native speaker review |
| Grace Given Before the Ages | 1:9 | High | Eternal, unilateral divine purpose predating human response must not be softened into a reciprocity-creating melmastia-style gift. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Deliverance | 4:17-18 | Medium | خلاصول (ongoing providential rescue) must stay distinct from نجات (salvation itself) and from folk qadar fatalism. | Native speaker review |
| Thanksgiving | 1:3 | Low | شکر is a shared Islamic virtue, broadly compatible; anchor to Paul’s specific covenant-continuity claim, not generic piety. | Automated review |
Total doctrines tracked: 19 (matches doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly: Critical 7, High 8, Medium 3, Low 1).
Cross-Chapter Doctrine Recurrence Notes
- Epiphaneia disambiguation (1:9-10 vs. 4:1, 4:8): the single highest cross-chapter translation-consistency requirement in the book. The Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing doctrine must be rendered so the first (past, incarnational) and second (future, judicial) senses are clearly distinguished at every occurrence, per the baseline’s incarnation caution extended here.
- صداقت/imputed righteousness thread (2:22, 3:16, 4:8): “righteousness” recurs across three chapters and culminates in 4:8’s crown; all three occurrences must be translated so the crown reads as the completion of credited righteousness, not a fourth, separate merit category.
- زغم/endure/suffer word-family (1:8, 1:12, 2:3, 2:9-10, 2:12, 3:11-12, 4:5): Perseverance under Suffering is the most frequently recurring doctrine outside the core passage; translation memory must track all endure/suffer/hardship occurrences for internal consistency, per the Section B glossary’s caution against forcing artificial wordplay across distinct Greek roots.
- Sound doctrine / doctrine / teaching family (1:13-14, 2:2, 2:15, 3:16, 4:2-3): روغ تعلیم and its cognates must remain consistent across all five passages so learners recognize the recurring doctrine across lessons, per the baseline’s cross-document consistency rule.
- Apostasy safety framing (2:16-18, 3:1-9, 3:13, 4:3-4, 4:10): every occurrence requires the same acute safety calibration established for 2:16-18 — internal warning about doctrinal/moral compromise within the church, never phrasable as an accusation of leaving Islam.
This document extends but never contradicts assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json, translation_memory.json, and bible_term_registry.json from the baseline Romans Language Package. Critical Risk Doctrines
Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Pashto name: د مقدس کتاب الهام او بسنه والی
Key terms: sacred writings, scripture, God-breathed, thoroughly equipped, profitable
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: theopneustos (‘God-breathed’) collides with the Islamic hierarchy that subordinates الهام (ilham, a lesser inspiration available even to non-prophets) far beneath وحی (wahy, verbatim angelic dictation reserved for prophets and specifically the Qur’an); rendering with ilham risks demoting Scripture’s status, while wahy overcorrects toward a dictation model erasing the human authors’ voices. Additionally, ‘thoroughly equipped…unto all good works’ (3:17) asserts a sufficiency directly contrary to the regional Islamic theological structure requiring the Qur’an to be supplemented by the vast hadith/sunna/fiqh corpus for practice.
Guarding Sound Doctrine
Pashto name: د روغ تعلیم ساتنه
Key terms: sound doctrine, pattern of sound words, doctrine, rightly dividing
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: روغ تعلیم (‘sound/healthy doctrine’) must not drift toward صحیح, the technical term of Islamic hadith-authentication science (as in Sahih al-Bukhari), which would reframe sound doctrine as a matter of chain-of-transmission (isnad-style) authentication rather than Scripture’s own inherent, self-authenticating, health-giving character - a fundamentally different epistemological claim.
The Charge to Preach the Word
Pashto name: د کلام د تبلیغ امر
Key terms: preach, charge, evangelist, ministry, be ready in season
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: وعظ (waaz), the standard word for a mosque sermon delivered by a mullah with recognized public and legal standing, is a socially dangerous frame to assume for this underground house-church readership; open, public proclamation carries severe, potentially life-threatening legal and social risk in Taliban-controlled and similarly restrictive areas. Personally identifying as one who does ‘the work of an evangelist’ (مبشر) compounds this risk to the level of personal, capital danger.
Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Pashto name: په وروستیو ورځو کې مرتدي او درغلي ښوونکي
Key terms: turn away, itching ears, fables, perilous times, form of godliness, gangrene, loved this present world, deny
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: the concept of ‘turning away’ from received truth directly collides with the Islamic legal category of ridda (apostasy from Islam), a capital offense under classical shari’a and actively enforced in Taliban-controlled areas. This doctrine is an internal warning about believers/teachers abandoning sound doctrine within the church and must never be phrased in a way that could be overheard or reported as an accusation that someone has ‘left Islam,’ given the severe danger such a charge poses to real people in this readership’s context.
Deity and Lordship of Christ as Universal Judge
Pashto name: د مسیح د قاضي په توګه الوهیت او خداوندي
Key terms: judge the living and the dead, lord, appearing
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: in Sunni theology, final judgment on Yawm al-Qiyamah belongs to Allah alone; assigning this exclusive divine prerogative to Christ (‘who shall judge the quick and the dead’) is a direct eschatological extension of the baseline’s Critical deity_of_christ and lordship_of_christ doctrines and must never be softened to a delegated or merely representative judicial role.
Resurrection of Christ
Pashto name: د مسیح بیا راژوندي کیدل
Key terms: resurrection, raised from the dead, seed of David
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: Hymenaeus and Philetus’s ancient error that ‘the resurrection is past already’ (2:18) offers a direct internal parallel to the Quran’s crucifixion-denial (4:157) shared across Arabic, Persian, and Pashto; this text requires affirming a real, historical, still-future bodily resurrection against both the ancient heresy and the contemporary Quranic denial pattern.
Incarnation and Christ’s Appearing
Pashto name: تجسد او د مسیح راڅرګندېدنه
Key terms: appearing, incarnation, manifest, kingdom
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: the single Greek word epiphaneia covers both Christ’s first incarnate appearing (1:10) and his future visible return (4:1, 4:8); Sunni eschatology’s own teaching that Isa will return (to defeat the Dajjal, break crosses, die naturally, and be buried in Medina) is a false-friend collision - shared vocabulary, radically different content (a subordinate role completing Muhammad’s mission, not a sovereign Judge-King returning in his own glory). Must be corrected explicitly at every occurrence, and Pashto’s especially thin Christian theological tradition offers the least settled precedent for the incarnation term itself.
High Risk Doctrines
Faithful Transmission of the Gospel
Pashto name: د انجیل باوري لیږد
Key terms: the good deposit, kept the faith, the word of God is not bound, gospel
Review routing: Human theologian
امانت (the good deposit) is a genuine positive cultural and Islamic bridge - a trust placed for safekeeping that must be faithfully returned, a matter of honor in both traditions - but the content must be specified as apostolic gospel doctrine specifically, and must not be presented as open to alteration or ‘improvement’ through personal ijtihad-style reasoning; it is to be guarded and transmitted unchanged across generations.
Perseverance under Suffering
Pashto name: په مصیبت کې زغم
Key terms: endure hardship, soldier, not ashamed, athlete, farmer, fought the good fight
Review routing: Human theologian
Pashtunwali’s honor-shame culture and its badal (revenge) and nang (honor) codes highly valorize suffering endured to defend personal or tribal honor; biblical endurance must be clearly distinguished as suffering specifically for Christ and the gospel with an eschatological reward in view, not honor-code retaliation or tribal vindication logic. Additionally, the soldier and ‘good fight’ military metaphors are politically dangerous in this actively conflict-affected, jihadist-rhetoric-saturated region if misheard as endorsing literal armed struggle rather than metaphorical gospel-ministry devotion.
Assurance of Reward
Pashto name: د بدلې ډاډ
Key terms: crown of righteousness, endure and reign with him, foundation, kept the faith, finished the course
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘crown of righteousness’ (4:8) must be explicitly tied to the baseline’s Critical imputed_righteousness doctrine (credited, not earned) so the reward is understood as the gracious completion of a righteousness already secured by faith in Christ, not a separate merit-based achievement - otherwise this reward language risks collapsing into the shared Islamic deeds-weighing framework already flagged Critical for salvation in the baseline Romans package.
Sanctification and Honorable Use
Pashto name: تقدیس او د عزت لپاره کارونه
Key terms: vessel unto honour, vessel unto dishonour, sanctified, meet for the master’s use
Review routing: Human theologian
عزت (izzat, honor) is a central and genuinely positive Pashtunwali bridge term for this vessel-of-honor imagery, but must be carefully calibrated so the ‘honor’ in view is being set apart for God’s holy purposes (sanctification), not tribal or family honor as such - the same calibration the baseline requires for righteousness/justification’s honor-restoration framing.
Gift of Repentance
Pashto name: د توبې ډالۍ
Key terms: repentance, snare of the devil
Review routing: Human theologian
Islamic tawba (توبه) is a major, positively-regarded virtue framed primarily as a human act of turning back within a deeds-and-mercy framework; this passage’s emphasis that God himself ‘gives’ repentance is a sovereign-grace claim that must be taught explicitly against that default, extending the baseline’s grace and election doctrine notes.
Honor Reversal in Suffering for Christ
Pashto name: په مصیبت کې د عزت بدلون
Key terms: not ashamed, chains, prisoner of the Lord
Review routing: Human theologian
Being ‘not ashamed’ of a socially disgraceful position - imprisonment, association with a condemned prisoner - is a direct and deliberate reversal of ordinary Pashtun honor-shame calculus; this reversal must be taught explicitly as a distinct doctrine, not assumed self-evident, since it directly addresses social shame this readership may face for their faith.
Faithfulness of God amid Human Unfaithfulness
Pashto name: د انسان بې وفایۍ سره سره د خدای وفاداري
Key terms: if we deny him, he abideth faithful, endure
Review routing: Human theologian
The conditional warning ‘if we deny him, he also will deny us’ sits directly beside ‘he remains faithful’ and must be carefully balanced in teaching so believers do not read salvation as precarious or merit-dependent, which would collapse into the shared Islamic deeds-weighing framework already flagged Critical for the baseline’s salvation doctrine.
Grace Given Before the Ages
Pashto name: له عصرونو مخکې فضل
Key terms: grace, given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, called
Review routing: Human theologian
Grace ‘given us in Christ Jesus before the world began’ asserts an eternal, unilateral divine purpose predating any human response; this must not be softened into a reciprocity-creating gift under the melmastia hospitality-code default already flagged Critical/High for grace in the baseline Romans package.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Divine Calling
Pashto name: الهي بلنه
Key terms: called, calling, holy calling
Review routing: Native speaker review
Everyday invitation-vocabulary in Pashto; the direction of address (God summoning a person to salvation with a holy calling) needs to be made explicit rather than left implicit, consistent with the baseline’s divine_calling note.
Spiritual Gifts and Empowerment for Ministry
Pashto name: روحاني ورکړې او د خدمت لپاره ځواک
Key terms: spiritual gift, power, love, and a sound mind, stir up the gift
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must retain the ‘spiritual’ qualifier so the gift is not read as ordinary talent, and must present the Spirit’s empowerment as specifically enabling bold-yet-wise ministry under persecution, contrasted with ‘the spirit of fear.‘
Providence and Deliverance
Pashto name: د خدای تدبیر او خلاصون
Key terms: the Lord shall deliver me, preserve, his heavenly kingdom
Review routing: Native speaker review
God’s ongoing providential rescue in specific trials (خلاصول) must be kept distinct from the doctrine of salvation itself (نجات) though it flows from the same divine character, and must be distinguished from folk qadar fatalism, consistent with the baseline’s providence doctrine note.
Low Risk Doctrines
Thanksgiving
Pashto name: شکر
Key terms: I thank God, mercy
Review routing: Automated review
شکر is also a major Islamic virtue; broadly compatible, low risk, consistent with the baseline’s thanksgiving doctrine.
